The Internet Promotes Boycotting Home Depot After Retired Co-Founder Openly Says He’s Pro-Trump

Westlake Legal Group rsz_ec6e36f2-45bc-4021-865f-bec1511077e9-620x387 The Internet Promotes Boycotting Home Depot After Retired Co-Founder Openly Says He’s Pro-Trump Politics Internet home depot Front Page Stories Featured Story donations donald trump democrats Business & Economy boycott Bernie Marcus Allow Media Exception

The co-founder of Home Depot, Bernie Marcus, became wealthy as his stores opened up all sorts of possibilities for the DIYers and made it far easier for construction workers to operate. As a businessman who helped businesses build businesses, it should come as no surprise that Marcus appreciates businessmen, and so he seems to like Donald Trump.

In an interview with the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Marcus admitted that he likes Trump — while not agreeing with everything he does and says — and made it no secret that he’s donated millions to his campaign. He also plans to do so again. Not as much as he does to philanthropic causes, but enough to help the President’s reelection:

He also has been a major political donor. According to OpenSecrets.org, he was a top contributor to Donald Trump during his presidential run. And Marcus told the AJC that he plans to support the president’s re-election bid. While Trump “sucks” at communication, Marcus said, the president deserves praise for boosting U.S. jobs, confronting China on trade and taking action against Iranian and North Korean aggression.

Marcus said his political giving remains far smaller than what he gives to philanthropic causes and what he plans to give in the future.

As you can probably imagine, the left lost its ever loving mind over this and are now attempting to generate a boycott against Home Depot with a fancy new hashtag, “#BoycottHomeDepot.”

The hashtag went viral, but the problem is that tweets actually looking to promote the hashtag are far fewer than I expected with the hashtag allegedly being so popular. At the time of this writing, at least, much of the contributions to the hashtag are people making fun of the few people who are actually planning on boycotting the store because its co-founder is pro-Trump.

On that note, Marcus actually retired in 2002 and, once again, the left is wasting its outrage on something that won’t hurt the person guilty of wrong-think.

What will likely happen is that Home Depot won’t see any damages from this “boycott.” People who shop at Home Depot do so because it helps them do work and it’s the easiest place to shop for tools and materials. Like Chick-fil-A and Hobby Lobby before it, we can probably look forward to seeing people enthused to shop there just to spite people being angry about its now retired founder being a Trump backer.

We’re only a few precious weeks into the summer, but while normal people have already taken the opportunity to ditch their phones and relax by the pool, go on vacation, and/or do other types of outdoorsy things they enjoy, the online outrage machine hasn’t stopped. In fact, it has been cranked up into even higher gears than normal.

The latest example comes from the liberal fauxtrage machine in response to the news that Home Depot’s co-founder announced he would be supporting President Trump’s reelection campaign:

Home Depot shoppers have been threatening to boycott the store after its co-founder, Bernie Marcus, revealed in a recent interview that he’d be donating to President Trump’s re-election bid.

“Never shopping @HomeDepot again,” wrote one Twitter user.

“Cutting up my card,” another said.

Marcus, who retired from Home Depot in 2002, has been a vocal Trump supporter in the past — despite not always agreeing with him.

“He’s got a businessman’s common sense approach to most things,” Marcus told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution in a recent interview, which has been making the rounds on social media.

Between the Home Depot boycott, Nike’s absurd decision not to sell the Betsy Ross flag-themed shoe, a Tempe, AZ Starbucks kicking out police officers, the disturbing Blue Bell ice cream licking incidents, and others, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) asked the same question Monday many of us are wondering about:

I was asking myself the same thing after finding out this week that air conditioning is sexist. I’m Willing to Go to Great Lengths to Protect Blue Bell Ice Cream and So Should You

I want to be very clear about something.

I like to think I’m a fair-minded, reasonable guy. I’m a live and let live libertarian who doesn’t even believe in the death penalty. I’m a full believer in freedom of expression, even past the point that some are comfortable with.

But then I saw the trend of people walking into grocery stores and heading straight for the ice cream aisle. They open up the freezer and take out a gallon or pint of sweet, innocent Blue Bell ice cream. Then they start to violate it with their filthy tongues and proceed to put it back on the freezer shelf where some unsuspecting person only looking to find joy in one of the greatest things Texas has ever produced picks it up and takes it home.

They get ready to enjoy the Lord’s ice cream when they find it’s been sullied by the unclean tongue of a thirsty idiot with an attention deficit.

If Texas was a religion — and some people nearly consider it such — then Blue Bell ice cream would be a holy object within it, like an ark that when opened makes people smile instead of melting their faces off. It’s not hard to understand why. Blue Bell is perfect in almost every way. It’s just the right amount of sweet, it has a wonderful texture, and its flavors are so balanced that you wonder if the people who develop it are actual rocket scientists. I mean, have you tried the recent cookie cake flavor? It’s flawless.

So you’ll pardon Texans for getting a little defensive when this internet trend started by, what I can only assume, are apes in people suits. I’m in full approval of putting guns, and maybe even swords and spears in front of the freezers to prevent these animals from making an internet trend out of ruining the best part of people’s day. Swords and spears are legal to carry around in Texas.

Am I saying that I’d resort to shooting someone for Blue Bell ice cream? That I’d go Highlander on someone for daring to do it for the gram? Well, let me ask you something.

Is America the greatest country in the world? The answer is yes, and do you know why? Because Blue Bell played a part in making it that way, and as such, cartons of Blue Bell should be able to sleep soundly in their freezers because rough men are ready to do violence on their behalf.

I say God bless those willing to put themselves between the forces of evil and the closest thing they’ll ever get to feasting at the table of Heaven while they live on this Earth.

AOC Shocked That It Rains in City Built on Swamp

Westlake Legal Group AlexandraOcasioCortez-620x317 AOC Shocked That It Rains in City Built on Swamp washington D.C. storms rain Politics Global Warming Front Page Stories Front Page Flooding Featured Story dumb democrats Climate Change Carbon Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., listens during a House Financial Services Committee hearing with leaders of major banks, Wednesday, April 10, 2019, on Capitol Hill in Washington. (AP Photo/Patrick Semansky)

On Monday, Washington D.C. experienced flash flooding leading to over 100 water rescues, mostly of stranded motorists. A normal person would realize that it’s July, that storms and rain are not a new thing, and that the nation’s capital is built on a low-lying swamp that invites flooding.

But Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is not a normal person. Instead, she took the sudden downpour as proof of global warming, because what else could possibly cause it to rain in a swamp?

This is nonsensical for many reasons.

Let’s note that the hysteria over global warming started out with a primary complaint of coming desertification of large swaths of land. This is where we get the left-wing talking points that droughts are driving migrant rushes across the globe. In this case, wouldn’t rain be a good thing?

Did the 3.3 inches of rain in an hour break a record on Monday? Yes, it did. For that single day in recorded history. You can find larger rainfall totals going back into the 1800s and no doubt many, many more before real record keeping started. Were those just flukes while this one was definitely caused by man-made climate change? How is that actually judged? Just AOC’s gut feeling?

What actually happened in D.C. was that a low pressure area producing major convective activity passed through the area. There’s currently more of that building in the mid-west. Even if you believe man is causing the temperature to rise, there was no connection between this specific storm and supposed higher temperatures. Remember, we are constantly told by liberals that weather is not climate. When it’s really cold and snows in the south, that’s not proof of anything. But if it rains in a swamp, that’s global warming according AOC.

Here’s some pictures from prior D.C. floods that were far, far worse.

Also, take her accusation that “places are flooding where they haven’t before.” The shifting of flood plains and rivers is a natural occurrence that has been happening since the beginning of time. The Mississippi River, for example, has changed it’s path throughout its history all along its length. Because rivers are never actually static, this means you can eventually see new places become threatened by floods that weren’t before. There’s also the fact that many, many places in the United States that are inhabited exist because of levies, pumps, and other man made tools keeping the water at bay. That’s never a guarantee to work forever.

If you look at the history of just the United States, what you’ll find going back well before the industrial boom of the early 1900s, is centuries of major disasters, huge death totals from weather events, and massive displacement due to flooding. These are normal weather events that will always be with us. No amount of government spending or taxing carbon is going to change that.

AOC sees this as a opportunity to push her socialist tripe though and far too many people buy into it without any critical thinking whatsoever.

Have The Obamas Already Chosen Their 2020 Candidate?

President Obama michelle obama laura ingraham kamala harris Joe Biden Front Page Stories Featured Story elections donald trump democrats Campaigns Barack Obama Allow Media Exception 2020 Obama Endorsement 2020

Ever since Kamala Harris’ well rehearsed takedown of former Vice President Joe Biden in the first 2020 Democratic debate, her numbers have soared in the national polls. Her artful but dishonest portrayal of Biden as a racist and his clumsy defense literally doubled her support overnight.

Joe Biden has many shortcomings, but he is not a racist. Many people who have known him over the course of his long political career have spoken up in his defense. Even 2020 rival Tulsi Gabbard defended him on Monday. She tweeted, “But let’s get real…It was a false accusation that Joe Biden is a racist.”

There were two who remained conspicuously silent over the attack. And that would be former President Obama and Michelle. The Obamas, regardless of which candidate they favor, could easily have defended Biden against the accusation of racism, but chose not to. This would make sense if they happened to favor the one responsible for the disingenuous attack.

Fox News‘ Laura Ingraham made a strong case in her opening monologue on Monday night (video below) that the Obamas have quietly thrown their support behind Harris. And “Joe Biden is the only one blocking her from the nomination.” So…

First, she notes the number of Obama administration alums who are currently working for the Harris campaign including Jim Margolis, David Binder, David Huynh, Will Dubbs and Zack Davis.

Next, she points out the connections between Harris and the Obamas. Her younger sister, Maya Harris, was the former head of the Northern California chapter of the ACLU. She is married to Tony West who was a top official in former Attorney General Eric Holder’s DOJ.

Ingraham said she would “bet her bottom dollar that Team Obama is advising her and advising her to go really tough on her opponents and to be the fighter that Hillary Clinton was not.”

Recall Harris’ recent comments about Trump. “I know predators.” Harris pauses, shakes her head up and down. (Has anyone else ever noticed that, after Harris makes a point, she always does that?) “And we have a predator living in the White House.”

Didn’t Harris have a predator on her own staff until last year when she was forced to let him go?

Anyway, in order to win the nomination, Harris has to gain as much of the black vote as she can and to do so, she must peel support away from Biden. Ingraham said “black voters are a core constituency for the Democratic party and that still favors Biden.”

This might explain her proposal, presented at last weekend’s Essence Festival in New Orleans, for a $100 billion plan to boost home ownership among blacks by funding downpayments and closing costs. She believes this will reduce the wealth disparity between whites and blacks by one third. Ingraham notes that Harris had better be careful about this plan. “What about the Hispanic/white wealth gap or the Native American/white wealth gap. There are a lot of wealth gaps out there.”

Ingraham showed a clip of Biden’s comments about his segregationist colleagues. She then presented a clip of Michelle Obama speaking to talk show host and Oprah BFF, Gayle King. Ingraham said Michelle refused “to throw even a short life line to Biden and she did that for a reason.” She explains:

Remember in 2008 when candidate Obama needed Joe Biden on the ticket? He needed this to give him, Obama, some moderate blue collar cred, to make him more palatable to middle America. But that was then and this is now. We’re living in different times. Biden really isn’t needed today to be the heir to Obamaism. No. When you look across the board, Harris is a much more logical fit.

At a Myrtle Beach, S.C. town hall, she spoke to a predominantly black audience. Immediately, Harris began dropping her g’s. (Why do so many politicians do this?) She tells them the only reason anyone says the economy is great is because the stock market has been strong.

“Well, it’s fine if ya own stocks,” she says. But, Harris might be surprised at how many of them actually do own stocks directly or indirectly through pensions and 401K plans.

“They say, well, how else are you measuring the greatness of the economy? And they point to…Fox News.” The audience says it before she does. They all laugh.

Harris is smart, she is tough and she is ambitious. I personally believe she has the best chance of winning the nomination.

Ingraham sees Harris as Obama 3.0. She believes the Obamas do as well.

Let’s keep an eye on them.

It’s Time To Panic: The Trade War Will Hit Scotch Whiskey Next

Westlake Legal Group media.townhall-2-2-620x317 It’s Time To Panic: The Trade War Will Hit Scotch Whiskey Next Uncategorized Trade War Tariffs scotch Front Page Stories Featured Story European Union EU donald trump

While the United States has ceased escalating its trade war with China for the moment, the Trump Administration and the European Union are preparing to up the ante in their disputes.

According to Reuters, several European commodities are slated to be hit with new tariffs, including Scotch whiskey.

The U.S. Trade Representative’s office released a list of additional products – including olives, Italian cheese and Scotch whiskey – that could be hit with tariffs, on top of products worth $21 billion that were announced in April.

USTR said it was adding 89 tariff sub-categories to its initial list, including a variety of metals, in response to public comments, but gave no further explanation. Over 40 individuals testified about products included on the initial list at a public hearing on May 15 and 16.

The United States and the EU have threatened to impose billions of dollars of tit-for-tat tariffs on planes, tractors and food in a nearly 15-year dispute at the World Trade Organization over aircraft subsidies given to U.S. planemaker Boeing Co (BA.N) and its European rival, Airbus SE (AIR.PA).

This is simply unacceptable. Scotch is good, tariffs (which are essentially taxes that get passed on to the consumer) are bad.

The Distilled Spirits Council of the United States criticized the Trump administration’s latest tariff threats and warned they would jeopardize U.S. jobs and hurt consumers.

“We strongly oppose the inclusion of distilled products in the proposed retaliation list,” said spokeswoman Lisa Hawkins.

“U.S. companies – from farmers to suppliers to retailers – are already being negatively impacted by the imposition of retaliatory tariffs by key trading partners on certain U.S. distilled spirits … and these additional tariffs will only inflict further harm,” she said.

The U.S. has announced it will hold a hearing in August on the new products that could be added to the tariff lists. However, the Trump Administration and industry officials are holding a meeting at the White House today in response. With any luck, we’ll see a positive response from the White House when it’s all said and done, particularly where the Scotch is concerned.

And I’m not sorry when I attack Trump over this, folks. This is the line. I am running low on my stock of Aberlour A’bunadh, and if it gets any pricier I’ll be cut off from one of the few pleasures life can still provide (I’m only being slightly overdramatic here – after all, in my day job I’m a teacher and this is how I cope).

In all seriousness, though, I have yet to really understand the strategy in these trade conflicts. Punitive tariffs are actually only punitive on consumers, not the countries of origin. They truly are taxes on consumers more than anything else, and at a time when the economy is strong, any new tax on consumers – particularly the middle class, who purchase a lot (not necessarily the Scotch and Italian cheese, but other basic goods) up the products that get slammed hardest by the tariffs.

In all honesty, the trade wars should – at best – have been a second-term strategy (although preferably not started at all). I don’t care if you can say President Trump is “winning” these wars. The fact that our prices are going up when the economy is otherwise making living easier is ill-advised.

Dear Megan Rapinoe, Get Over the Fact That You’re a Gay Person With a Political Opinion and Stop Ruining This

It’s not worth caring about.

It wasn’t long ago that figure skater Adam Rippon and skier Gus Kenworthy were making it a point to make their homosexuality the centerpiece of their time at the 2018 Winter Olympics.

That they’re gay isn’t really a concern to myself or many others. What mattered is that we had athletes on the world stage and we wanted them to do their very best while they represented our country. That’s all we wanted to care about, but Rippon and Kenworthy wouldn’t let us. They, like you, made it political by launching jabs at VP Mike Pence. Before you, Rippon also declined to go to the White House in order to make a statement.

They forced people to take sides instead of letting us enjoy the global sportsmanship free of political taint.

I want to be clear. When I say “take sides,” I don’t mean gay vs. straight. I mean the overall political message that these men forced the public to answer in the negative or affirmative. That they were Olympians didn’t matter after that. They made their politics eclipse their accomplishments.

What mattered is that they took political stances that many people couldn’t get behind. That they were gay mattered very little.

Now we have you. Another gay athlete with a cliche political opinion that shouldn’t matter in the wake of your victory on the national stage. Sadly, you made it matter. You made sure it would matter, and instead of the world uniting to rejoice and celebrate what you’ve managed to help pull off, we’re now shaking our heads at your disgusting efforts to hijack something pure and uniting and making it into one more thing to fight over.

We watch as you step on the flag of the country that helped bring you to where you are…

You showed further disrespect by consistently kneeling during the National Anthem, essentially insulting those who died for and helped turn this country in a place where heroes can be made and success is far more easily attained. You do this, according to sources, in order to protest Trump, as if the entire country deserves your ire because of one man.

You feel like you’re making a statement and changing things. I’m happy to tell you that you’re likely succeeding, and you’ll likely push people away from your camp and right into Trump’s.

It won’t be hard to figure out why. Your childish behavior rings more like a narcissist with a grudge than a socio-political role model. What’s more, you’re not even original. Rippon already did what you’ve done in the impotent quest to move the public through sports-based LGBT protesting and, like you, failed to move the needle one iota in your direction. What’s more, a lot of your actions are just microwaved leftovers of what Colin Kaepernick already served up, and when his nonsense was trendy to do in the NFL, the league actually lost 33 percent of its audience.

It’s likely that world’s buzz around you will fade, and your divisive advocacy will go with it like Rippon before you. Using your status as an LGBT sports star with an axe to grind will be one more reason for people not to care about what you have to say. Again, it won’t be because you’re a lesbian, it’ll be because you’re beating everyone over the head with it and using it to draw lines in the sand.

Again, nobody cares that you’re gay.

I’ll write for you what I wrote in 2018 to Rippon and Kenworthy.

The bottom line is that being gay doesn’t make you special, it makes you gay. It doesn’t make you a cultural mouthpiece for the western world, nor does it make you a mouthpiece for the LGBT community at large. It’s a diverse crowd with diverse opinions, and I know too many who roll their eyes so hard at the behavior of people like you that their eyes nearly fall out of their sockets.

Outrage about gay outrage is old hat. You need to understand that we are used to it, and that’s all thanks to braver people who came before you. Outside of your ability to play sports well, you are nothing special, just one more blowhard patting yourself on the back for your identity politics while attempting to paint your political rivals as evil.

You’re gay. Get over it. We certainly have.

Census Bureau Data: Non Citizens Earn $9K More Per Year Than Black Americans

Importing cheap labor, documented or undocumented, has a real economic cost and it is black Americans who are the most harmed.

Anyone who has a basic understanding of economics knows about the Law of Supply and Demand, which essentially states

The law of supply and demand is a theory that explains the interaction between the sellers of a resource and the buyers for that resource. The theory defines how the relationship between the availability of a particular product and the desire (or demand) for that product has on its price. Generally, low supply and high demand increase price and vice versa.

Applying the Law of Supply and Demand to the labor market, the law of supply and demand means that the fewer workers (the sellers of their labor services) available, the higher wage employers (the buyers of workers’ services) must pay.

Conversely, when there are more workers than jobs, the price of labor falls.

This is how too many immigrants in the labor market (legally and illegally) can harm American workers.

According to U.S. Census Bureau data (in full below), it appears that black Americans are the most harmed by immigration.

In fact, the median income of “Non Citizens” is more than $9,000 than black Americans. Overall, Hispanics earn nearly $10,000 more than than black Americans.

Westlake Legal Group Income-and-Poverty-in-the-United-States-2017-e1562263162960 Census Bureau Data: Non Citizens Earn $9K More Per Year Than Black Americans US Census Bureau Politics immigration Front Page Stories Featured Story Economy Cost of immigration on Black America Cost of illegal immigration Allow Media Exception

“Claims that immigration enforcement equals racism ignore the reality that the group most likely to benefit from a tougher approach to immigration enforcement is young black men, who often compete with recent immigrants for low-skilled jobs,” noted the Los Angeles Times last year.

This dynamic played out recently at a large bakery in Chicago that supplies buns to McDonald’s. Some 800 immigrant laborers, most of them from Mexico, lost their jobs last year after an audit by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The Cloverhill Bakery, owned by Aryzta, a big Swiss food conglomerate, had to hire new workers, 80% to 90% of whom are African American. According to the Chicago Sun Times, the new workers are paid $14 per hour, or $4 per hour more than the (illegal) immigrant workers.

While the fact that blacks earn less than non-citizens or Hispanics should not be construed as “anti-Hispanic,” in terms of economics, it does explain how immigration affects the Law of Supply and Demand.

Further, if politicians are truly concerned about erasing income inequality, the easiest thing to do would be to stem the tide of illegal immigration.

In recently leaked diplomatic memos sent to the British Foreign Commonwealth Office, British Ambassador to the U.S. Sir Kim Darroch delivered some nasty blows to President Trump and his administration. He wrote, “As seen from here, we don’t really believe this administration is going to become substantially more normal; less dysfunctional; less unpredictable; less faction riven; less diplomatically clumsy and inept.” In fact, it’s a real possibility that “his career could end in disgrace.” I posted about this story here.

The President spoke to reporters briefly on Sunday and said, “You know, we’ve had our little ins and outs with a couple of countries and I would say that the Ambassador has not served the U.K. well. I can tell you that we’re not big fans of that man… I could say things about him, but I won’t bother.”

On Monday afternoon, Trump reacted to the insulting cables by tweet. He wrote:

I have been very critical about the way the U.K. and Prime Minister Theresa May handled Brexit. What a mess she and her representatives have created. I told her how it should be done, but she decided to go another way. I do not know the Ambassador, but he is not liked or well thought of within the U.S. We will no longer deal with him. The good news for the wonderful United Kingdom is that they will soon have a new Prime Minister. While I thoroughly enjoyed the magnificent State Visit last month, it was the Queen who I was most impressed with!

According to Bloomberg, an administration official reported that Sir Kim had been disinvited from a Monday evening dinner party at the home of U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin. The guests of honor will be President Trump and the emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani.

A U.K. government official issued a statement that was cordial, but very direct. It said:

We have made clear to the U.S. how unfortunate this leak is. The selective extracts leaked do not reflect the closeness of, and the esteem in which we hold, the relationship. At the same time we have also underlined the importance of ambassadors being able to provide honest, unvarnished assessments of the politics in their country. Sir Kim Darroch continues to have the Prime Minister’s full support.

The U.K. has a special and enduring relationship with the U.S. based on our long history and commitment to shared values and that will continue to be the case.

The lack of warmth in the statement may be related to Trump’s frequent criticism of Prime Minister Theresa May’s handling of Brexit. She will soon be stepping down and Boris Johnson has the best chance of succeeding her.

Moreover, the Brits were unhappy with Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal.

U.K. Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt told The Sun that it’s “possible the leak might be the result of a hack by a hostile government. Of course it would be massively concerning if it was the act of a foreign, hostile state. I’ve seen no evidence that that’s the case, but we’ll look at the leak inquiry very carefully.”

Trade minister Liam Fox said he “would offer an apology to Ivanka Trump during a meeting in Washington.”

The Washington Post’s Josh Dawsey tweeted, “Trump’s own team likes the ambassador and regularly dines and socializes at the embassy with him.”

Fierce Trump critic George Conway, husband of White House Counsel Kellyanne Conway, replied “Indeed they do. They never miss parties at the British Embassy. They love the ambassador, as does everyone else (except for a certain narcissist-in-chief). Frankly, the ambassador was being kind in his assessment of the narcissist-in-chief.”

No surprise there.

Finally, although this type of incident is rare, it is not without precedent. Fox News’ Gregg Re wrote:

British ambassdor Lionel Sackville-West was summarily sacked in 1888 for writing the so-called Murchison letter, which touched off a firestorm by indicating that Britain preferred Grover Cleveland over Republican Benjamin Harrison. (Republicans publicized the letter, helping Harrison win the White House.)

And in May 1856, President Franklin Pierce expelled John F. Crampton, then the British ambasador to the U.S., and several other British diplomats, following a lengthy spat over British efforts to recruit North Americans to fight in Crimea.

“It’s not entirely unprecedented,” Dan Drezner, Professor of International Politics at The Fletcher School of Tufts University, told Fox News. “When WikiLeaks released a trove of diplomatic cables, the Bolivarian leader of Ecuador expelled the U.S. Ambassador. Even in that case, however, the Ecuadoran government went through the proper diplomatic channels. A PNG-by-tweet for the leak of cables confirming mainstream media reporting of the Trump administration is definitely new.”

9 Democratic Candidates as Taylor Swift Lyrics

This time around, it’s the Democratic Party’s turn for a dumpster fire of a primary and, holy cow, are they delivering.

Although, as of this morning, there were 22 candidates in the field, they are mostly so generic that they’re difficult to keep straight. To help you remember who’s who, I’ve matched each candidate with his or her perfect Taylor Swift lyric.

Here we go, in order of popularity.

The Overall Democratic Field

Everybody here wanted somethin’ more
Searchin’ for a sound we hadn’t heard before
Welcome to New York

Joe Biden

As the current frontrunner (polling at 29%), things are looking pretty good for former VP Joe Biden. Then again, at the rate his own party seems to be trying to take him down, maybe he’ll just crash and burn. That left me with one perfect choice.

So it’s gonna be forever
Or it’s gonna go down in flames
You can tell me when it’s over
If the high was worth the pain
Blank Space

You probably won’t have to write him in a blank space, baby. It’s looking pretty good he’ll be on the ballot. Then again, it’s early days.

Bernie Sanders

Bernie Sanders is only a few points behind Biden at 23%, begging the question- will America really go full socialist? We all know Bernie only puts a D after his name every 4 years when he wants to make a run at the White House.

We also know that socialism has failed every time it’s been tried. Every. Single. Time. And failed miserably. With lots of dead people and the eating of household pets and zoo animals to stay alive.

Then again, we’re talking about a guy who took his honeymoon to communist Russia. He’s got a pretty skewed sense of a good time.

Still, Bernie voters thinks his ideas sound good and forget to think about reality. They’re like:

My mind forgets to remind me
You’re a bad idea
Sparks Fly

Kamala Harris

While Biden and Bernie are up at the top, Kamala is lagging quite a bit behind in third place with only 11%. A lot of her platform is about the idea that there are people who have things that other people want and that just isn’t fair.

She wants to spread that wealth- especially by bribing black voters with government goodies (paid for by you, the taxpayers). She says she wants to look into reparations, but has promised to spend $100 billion to help black families buy homes. Look what you made her do.

The world moves on, another day, another drama drama
But not for me, not for me, all I think about is karma
And then the world moves on, but one thing’s for sure
Maybe I got mine, but you’ll all get yours
Look What You Made Me Do

Elizabeth Warren

Hot on Kamala’s heels is Elizabeth Warren, also polling at 11% (but slightly behind her in likely voters, putting her a spot behind). Remember the time Warren told everyone she was Native American, took a DNA test to prove it and…very much wasn’t? That was just one of the many times she was awkwardly fake.

Since then, we’ve been forced to endure livestreams of her drinking a beer (which appeared to be her first), interacting with her husband (which also seemed to be a first), and otherwise trying to act like the regular folks she hopes will vote for her.

In fact, being super phony is probably the #1 thing that differentiates Elizabeth Warren from a field with largely the same platform.

There I was again tonight forcing laughter, faking smiles
Same old tired lonely place
Walls of insincerity
Enchanted

Pete Buttigieg

He loves to go by “Mayor Pete” to keep that down home Indiana folksy vibe, but he can’t wait to leave that behind and get to Washington, DC. He’s polling at 4%, so that’s not looking likely, but who can blame him?

He was mayor of South Bend, Indiana, a city with crime rates nearly double the national average, and I have a feeling he ca’t wait to get out of there. With his husband. Because I’m not sure he mentioned it, but he’s gay. When he leaves, he’ll be playing this song:

This is a big world; that was a small town
There is the rear-view mirror disappearing now
White Horse

Amy Klobuchar

What do we know about Amy Klobuchar, other than the fact she’s raking in 2% of the vote? Mostly that she treats staffer like garbage and once ate a salad with a comb. In the face of these revelations, she seems completely unrepentant.

I bet she identifies with this particular lyric:

They say I did something bad
Then why’s it feel so good?
They say I did something bad
But why’s it feel so good?
Most fun I ever had
And I’d do it over and over again if I could
It just felt so good, good
I Did Something Bad

Beto O’Rourke

I almost feel bad for Beto. He was the golden child of the Democratic party when he was up against Ted Cruz in Texas, and they made him think he could be president. Then, he ran for president, and they all turned against him.

Now he finds himself last amongst the candidates polling at 2%, and he’s starting to realize that the left that once courted him so vigorously has been talking about him behind his back. We know just what they’ve been saying.

I used to think that we were forever, ever
And I used to say, never say never
Huh, so he calls me up and he’s like, “I still love you”
And I’m like I just mean this is exhausting, you know, like
We are never getting back together. Like, ever.
We are never ever, ever getting back together
We Are Never Getting Back Together

Cory Booker

You know who else I almost feel bad for? Cory Booker. Everybody thought he was all cool and handsome and charismatic, and he’s completely fallen off the radar. He even randomly started dating a Hollywood actress and promised a White House wedding and is still polling at 1% (and he’s not even the top candidate at 1%).

It’s like T-Swift says:

And I know that it’s long gone
And the magic’s not here no more
All Too Well

Marianne Williamson

In the middle of the 1% pack, we find Marianne Williamson. Her Twitter feed is full of deep, meaningful, and sometimes inspirational quotes that one would normally find on an influencer’s Instagram.

Things like:

Don’t you worry your pretty little mind
People throw rocks at things that shine
And life makes love look hard.
Ours

Eric Swalwell

Today, Eric Swalwell became the first Democrat to drop out of the race. He was dead last in the poll, just above “other.”

I’m sure his staffers were thinking:

The more I think about it now the less I know
All I know is that you drove us off the road

And the 0% of people voting for him:

People like you always want back the love they pushed aside
But people like me are gone forever when you say goodbye

But few people are thinking the title of the song- All You Had to Do Was Stay.
