As it turns out, the New York Times isn’t the only national media outlet dealing with an icky bug problem in their newsroom.

The Washingtonian reports that the Washington Post is dealing with one of their own (h/t: Twitchy):

“We have a growing pest problem,” Post director of newsroom operations Jillian S. Jarrett wrote in memo to newsroom employees August 14. “We’ve gotten several reports of cockroaches in the newsroom.” Lest you think this is a building-wide issue, Jarrett writes, “Facilities says that this is a newsroom problem and not happening on other floors.”

The Post‘s building sprays the premises regularly, the memo reads, “but we have to do more to keep the bugs at bay.” Among the anti-pest measures Jarrett recommends newsroom employees take: Make sure all food and dirty dishes are put away—and leave nothing “on or inside your desk,” Jarrett writes. Clean up after “cakings”—the Post term for someone’s leaving party—which means disposing of crumbs and leftovers properly, as well as cleaning up utensils. “There are Clorox wipes in the copy aide station,” Jarrett says. “We have on-call cleaning services, if you need a vacuum or mop, please let me know.”

The problem is apparently so bad that some journalists at the paper are having to come up with creative ways to combat them:

The Washingtonian didn’t provide photo or video evidence but Washington Post reporter Tracy Jan sent out some tweets earlier this month that included photos and video of Telford’s skills at cockroach removal:

On Monday after the story about the New York Times’ bedbug problem started circulating on social media, journalists from the Washington Post tweeted out that they were thankful their problems were confined to roaches:

There are oh so many metaphors that can be explored here. I’ll leave you to them. On Tuesday night as MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow was handing off her show to her colleague, Lawrence O’Donnell, he announced that a source had informed him that President Trump’s Deutsche Bank loans had been co-signed by Russian oligarchs. I posted about this here.

In the meantime, on Wednesday morning, President Trump’s attorney sent a brutal letter to NBC Universal brass demanding that both O’Donnell and NBCU “immediately and prominently retract, correct and apologize for the aforementioned false and defamatory statements.” This letter can be viewed here.

O’Donnell quickly fired off the following tweet, and promised to address the issue on his show tonight.

In the meantime, upon hearing O’Donnell’s big scoop last night, actress Alyssa Milano sent off an obnoxious tweet of her own. Classy.

After O’Donnell’s retraction, many were wondering if Milano would delete it.

At 6 pm, it was still up.

By 7:30 pm, it was gone.

Pow! Ted Cruz Mercilessly Lays Out Bernie Sanders Over His Pro-China Comments

Westlake Legal Group music-black-and-white-white-sport-photography-ring-846233-pxhere.com_-620x413 Pow! Ted Cruz Mercilessly Lays Out Bernie Sanders Over His Pro-China Comments Uncategorized Ted Cruz socialism Poverty Front Page Stories Featured Story Congress communism China Bernie Sanders Allow Media Exception 2020

Speaking to Hill.TV’s Krystal Ball Wednesday, 2020 hopeful and everyone’s favorite multimillionaire socialist uncle — Bernie Sanders — heaped praise upon progressive China:

“But what we have to say about China, in fairness to China and it’s leadership, is — if I’m not mistaken — they have made more progress in addressing extreme poverty than any country in the history of civilization. Okay? So they’ve done a lot of things for their people.”

Ted Cruz, apparently, found the comment curious.

Therefore, he decided to Crush Uncle Bernie mercilessly:

“Sure, the Chinese Communists have wrongfully imprisoned & tortured millions, and they have murdered over 65 million people, but Bernie may have a point: when you’re dead, your poverty’s solved, right? #AbsurdLeftistPropaganda.”

via GIPHY

Perhaps Bernie’s just a good-timin’ fella who likes to look on the non-murderous bright side.

Still, Ted cruised in and wrecked ol’ Bern with that blazer.

Uncle Bernie’s a revolutionary, and — unfortunately — many of his supporters seem wholly aware of what he’s selling. Despite signs and comments by millennials to the contrary, socialism isn’t simply a system in which everyone’s taken care of. It’s a design which prohibits individuals from owning their own businesses, as the government possesses all products and means of production. Which China has in the past somewhat employed: Under Chairman Mao, every factory and farm in the gargantuan nation was owned by the Communist Party.

Is that what the youngsters really want? The inability to open their own vape store?

Presumably, Bernie’s a fan.

Thankfully, many who know the definition of words aren’t.

That includes Ted, who’s no stranger to correcting Mr. Sanders.

Take a short trip back in time and watch Ted absolutely shred your uncle below. Like China, Ted’s intense:

The Outrage Mob Eats NYT’s Shorts Again: the Paper Caves and Re-Characterizes the Tea Party as Even More Villainous

Westlake Legal Group tea-556777_1280-620x413 The Outrage Mob Eats NYT’s Shorts Again: the Paper Caves and Re-Characterizes the Tea Party as Even More Villainous Uncategorized The New York Times tea party racism Politics Media Front Page Stories Featured Story democrats Culture Cory Booker Conservatives Barack Obama Allow Media Exception

Well, here’s something bizarre.

On Wednesday, The New York Times published an article characterizing the Tea Party as having “unleashed the politics of anger” that lives on in this pres(id)ent darkness.

The piece was titled “The Tea Party Didn’t Get What It Wanted, but It Did Unleash the Politics of Anger.”

But some left-wing readers didn’t appreciate it — how could the Times address the Tea Party without portraying it as sufficiently villainous?

In response, the New York mainstay assured its audience of a revision which now “[included] context about attacks on President Barack Obama and racist displays at some Tea Party rallies.”

All of you who were upset, be made exceedingly glad:

TiGGyZTweetZ presumably felt better yet was still disgusted:

But that’s just ol’ TiGGyZTweetZ for ya.

At its inception, the Tea Party was, of course, a call to more limited government.

Here’s how The New York Times portrayed it:

In the late summer of 2009, as the recession-ravaged economy bled half a million jobs a month, the country seemed to lose its mind.

Lawmakers accustomed to scheduling town hall meetings where no one would show up suddenly faced shouting crowds of hundreds, some of whom brought a holstered pistol or a rifle slung over the shoulder. One demonstrator at a rally in Maryland hanged a member of Congress in effigy. A popular bumper sticker at the time captured the contempt for the federal bailout of certain homeowners. “Honk if I’m Paying Your Mortgage,” it said.

That was part of the original with which people weren’t satisfied.

Enjoy the additions:

One significant limitation to the Tea Party is the contradiction in its DNA: It was a mass uprising based on notions of small-government libertarianism that are popular with think tanks but not so popular with most Americans. And as Mr. Obama’s allies saw the movement, its outrage over the debt and deficit had another purpose: giving cover and a voice to those who wanted to attack the first black president — people who in some cases showed up at rallies waving signs with racist caricatures and references.

This isn’t the NTY’s first correction based on outrage from the Left. Witness Cory Farticus Booker’s early-August condemnation, which in part resulted in an about face:

August, indeed.

Long Time Coming: Marvel Gives the World its First Openly-Gay Male Superhero, and There’s More Where That Came From

Westlake Legal Group shoe-1433925_1280-620x465 Long Time Coming: Marvel Gives the World its First Openly-Gay Male Superhero, and There’s More Where That Came From zach barack Uncategorized transgender Tom Holland Thor the eternals tessa thompson spider-man Movies Marvel Studios Marvel Cinematic Universe LGBT Kevin Feige Hollywood Good Morning America Front Page Stories Featured Story Entertainment Culture Allow Media Exception

It’s happened.

After years of reference by way of interviews and film dialogue, Disney-owned Marvel Studios has announced its first full-on-featured openly gay male superhero.

Studio President Kevin Feige broke the news on Good Morning America Monday, touting the upcoming film series The Eternals and its crew of characters — “the most diverse Marvel’s cast yet, including an openly gay character.”

Kevin explained that the super man’s sexuality will be presented along the lines of “no big deal”:

“He’s married, he’s got a family, and that is just part of who he is.”

Check out the video, starting at 1:38.

Among the cast of Disney’s monumental move: Game of Thrones star Kit Harrington.

Plus: Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Richard Madden, Gemma Chan, Kumail Nanjiani, and Brian Tyree Henry.

Additionally on the homosexual horizon, the character of Valkyrie in Marvel’s Thor series will be getting some same-sex screen time in the next installment.

At Comic-Con in July, actress Tessa Thompson confirmed Valkyrie’s lesbian longing:

“As new king [of Asgard], she needs to find her queen. That will be the first order of business. She has some ideas. I’ll keep you posted.”

Marvel’s been on a path toward LGBT world-saving for quite some time.

In Spider-Man: Far From Home, one of Peter Parker’s classmates was played by Zach Barack, a woman who identifies as a man.

And in July, actor Tom Holland announced he’s open to Spidey himself coming out as gay.

Avengers: Endgame also got in on the evolutionary action. But, as observed by The Daily Wire, some found it inadequate:

While The Eternals will feature Marvel’s first openly gay male superhero, he won’t be the first openly gay character in the MCU. Avengers: Endgame, which dominated the box office this year, includes a character — named simply “Grieving Man” in the credits — participating in a support group hosted by Captain America/Steve Rogers. Grieving Man, played by co-director Joe Russo, tells the group that he’s dating another man, but it’s difficult to manage in the grim, “post-Snap” world. The moment was met with backlash from some critics, including Gizmodo’s Charles Pulliam-Moore, who were upset about the “inconsequential” manner in which the MCU’s first gay character was presented.

The superhero landscape is certainly changing. We’re turning a corner; surely much more is to come.

On Tuesday, MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell reported a source had informed him that the co-signers on Trump’s Deutsche Bank loans were Russian oligarchs. (Video below.)

As MSNBC host Rachel Maddow was turning the airwaves over to O’Donnell, he said, “This single source close to Deutsche Bank has told me that the Trump — Donald Trump’s loan documents there show that he has co-signers. That’s how he was able to obtain those loans. And that the co-signers are Russian oligarchs.” He added that his source also told him the co-signers were “Russian billionaires close to Vladimir Putin.”

Maddow’s ears immediately perked up. “What? Really?”

As if he had just made an incredible discovery, he said, “That would explain, it seems to me, every kind word Donald Trump has ever said about Russia and Vladimir Putin, if true, and I stress the ‘if true’ part of this.”

O’Donnell claimed his source had also said that Trump “pays little to no income tax in some years.”

If true,” O’Donnell said, “that would be a significant factor in Vladimir Putin’s publicly stated preference for presidential candidate Donald Trump over presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.”

Hot Air’s Ed Morrissey said, “If true … it might be the first time such a thing has happened on MSNBC concerning Trump and Russia.”

Given the source, the conservative blogosphere is not taking O’Donnell’s claims too seriously.

It is true, however, that Deutsche Bank has Trump’s tax returns. Democratic House leaders have been after Trump’s returns for a while now and an appellate court is currently deliberating on whether or not to allow Congress access to them.

Morrissey points out that Deutsche Bank has Russian problems of their own right now and suggested that maybe O’Donnell has this backwards.

According to the Washington Post:

Deutsche Bank had repeatedly failed to secure work with a Russian government entity when it was approached with a proposal: Hire the daughter of a high-ranking official at the organization.

“We must do it!” a senior Deutsche Bank official said, according to the Securities and Exchange Commission. “We should have her in London as it is NOT politically correct to have her in Moscow!”

The woman was hired with a promise of a permanent position in London, according to allegations detailed in an SEC settlement agreement. Ten days after the move was complete, the new employee’s father sent Deutsche Bank a request for a proposal on a bond deal worth more than $2 billion, a deal the bank ultimately won.

The SEC order outlines numerous alleged violations by the bank of the 1977 Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, saying the bank provided jobs to relatives of foreign government officials in an attempt to influence the officials to steer business to the bank. Deutsche Bank agreed to settle the SEC’s allegations late last week by paying $16 million, though it did not admit wrongdoing.

As it turns out, O’Donnell spoke way too soon. An MSNBC producer, Michael Del Moro, tweeted earlier that O’Donnell’s reporting had come “from a single source who has not yet seen the bank records. NBC has not seen those records and has not yet been able to verify the reporting.”

So, why then, if his single source had not even viewed the loan documents, did O’Donnell report it? That’s a rhetorical question. I guess for the same reasons he reported that Trump had colluded with the Russians for nearly three years.

AOC Is Back and We’re All Going to Die

Westlake Legal Group media.townhall-2-4-620x317 AOC Is Back and We’re All Going to Die Politics Instagram Global Warming glaciers Front Page Stories Front Page Featured Story Drought DOOM disease democrats Crazy Climate Change Certifiable AOC Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

I wrote last week about the mysterious absence of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from Twitter and what it said about her. Her sudden muteness seemed to coincide directly with the “reassigning” of her Chief of Staff, who had long been speculated to be the “brains” behind her and the other Justice Democrats. He’s the one who started the movement from the ground up and he’s the one who was directly controlling all of AOC’s communications.

Without him, she suddenly went dark, only further feeding rumors that she relied heavily on Saikat Chakrabarti to deliver her whit and snark.

Well, she’s back and she’s basically confirming those rumors to be true if her performance is any measure.

Diseases being released from glaciers. What the…?

She then goes on to rant more about climate change, asserting that every coastal city is going to be underwater, not in hundreds of years, but soon. As if she’s reading from some kind of Biblical prophecy, she then predicts droughts and the human race dying out.

She bases all of this on absolutely nothing substantive, but if she really believes it, maybe leaving New York would be prudent. It is a coastal city after all, and by her telling, it’ll be under water in the near future.

This woman is certifiable. None of this is normal. The only thing that keeps me from just laughing at this and moving on is that people with these views are actually gaining ground right now, not losing it. AOC is an elected member of Congress. She’s not just some rando on Instagram. That’s a pretty disconcerting reality. We are less than a decade from her likely running for president.

Unlike the Obamas and many other liberal elites though, I actually think she believes what she’s saying. This is her cult and she’s all in. Her level of anxiety about the doomsday predictions she’s spouting probably require some form of therapy at this point. I almost feel sorry for her.

Trump Is Right About Fox News…Here’s Why

Westlake Legal Group 268c5688-b772-4635-9446-87d7455139bf Trump Is Right About Fox News…Here’s Why Trump Shep Smith Right Wing News Media Mainstream Media Front Page Stories fox news Featured Story complaints

Whenever I see reports of Trump tweeting crazy things (which admittedly is basically every single day) the first thing I do is go to his Twitter feed directly to read for myself. Of course, that is one thing that is so fascinating (and dare I say, refreshing) about Trump’s Twitter obsession. You never have to wonder what he’s thinking or what he meant. It’s all right there.

The second thing I do is ask myself, “Is it true?”. Sometimes Trump is being a jerk, but sometimes he is actually saying something meaningful and it gets lost in the hysteria.

On Wednesday, Trump launched a rant against Fox News. The lovebirds have been on the outs lately, and Trump seems to have more and more complaints about his fans at Fox every day. After watching a particularly annoying segment, Trump ripped into the channel.

There is no doubt that Trump is stomping his feet.

There is also no doubt that he is absolutely right.

Whether or not Fox gives him fair coverage is beside the point. The right-leaning network first launched in 1996 with the promise of being “fair and balanced”. Of course, we all understood they were right-wing friendly. The “balance” didn’t really refer to their coverage, the “balance” referred to them. They were the balance in a world where the progressive narrative had infected the daily news cycle. They gave us stories and points of views that had traditionally been squashed in our mainstream news sources. So while they were surely lopsided in their coverage, they were the only right-wing channel out there…thus, balance.

But this is 2019 and the internet has changed everything. Where once there was only Rush Limbaugh and Fox News, those two media giants have now inspired a glut of blogs, streaming commentary and alternative news sources. None of them are as powerful and successful as Fox.

What Trump is actually doing is voicing a fear that Fox may be looking to shift more to the center moving into this new media era. They have received so much undue criticism over the years that it wouldn’t be hard to believe the powers-that-be are tired of being insulted and want a little more street cred in the mainstream. I don’t watch Fox enough to know what things are like over there, but I do know that in any case Trump is right. In this day and age it is ridiculous that we still look to one channel to be the torchbearer for all of right-leaning/conservative media.

When I first started in this industry it seemed like a show on Fox was the brass ring. It was certainly the most lucrative outcome any conservative commentator could hope for at the time. As the industry progressed, I realized Fox can’t be the only home for right-wing coverage. Not all of us fit into that (very successful) mold and not all of us want to. While there are other projects out there looking to give them a run for their money, nothing has been able to yet match the success of Fox.

I disagree with Trump’s view of how Fox should be covering things – they can and should do what they want. They’ve built the most successful business model in media. It behooves us all to remember that. However, I think we should take seriously his concerns that it is time to expand our media reach.

We can’t depend on this one channel to cover the entire conservative universe. Not only is it limiting in the aspect of style and entertainment, but – as Trump pointed out – it is dangerous. Fox is the only mainstream channel that houses a consistent conservative/Republican presence. If/when they decide to shift away from the right, what will happen? Who will be the standard-bearer in the mainstream?  We are just as much a part of the problem. We, the viewers have elevated the channel to near unassailable status. We have depended on them so much for alternative coverage that we have handed them a lot of unearned power.

Trump is pointing this out. He is saying that the mainstream “creep” is in danger of watering down our only ally in the media. Let’s not pretend that the media (and I say this as a member of new media) is neutral. The media has gone from reporting to outright advocacy. The right has Fox as an advocate. The left has…well, everyone. Every other successful cable outlet that is not Fox is shilling for the whole left, all the time. It is why so many on the left mistakenly believe their opinions represent most of America.

We need to continue investing in and supporting new media outlets. We need to be building new media empires. We need to be expanding the buffet instead of just standing around staring at same dish all day long. The country and the voters need more dependable sources for their information. Fox cannot be our only “ally” in the mainstream. At the end of the day they’re a business…hell, it’s all business. They’re just going to do what looks best for the bottom line. The business of the voters would be best served to have a wider array of media options, just in case someone decides to wimp out – which is basically what Trump is complaining about.

Trump may be an egomaniac. Trump may be blowhard. But Trump is also right.

Joe Biden has committed so many gaffes in just the month of August alone that most of us have lost track of them.

He’s added more to the list this week, with the two latest coming from a campaign stop he made in Richmond, Va. on Tuesday.

In the first video clip, Biden is talking about remarks President Trump made at the G7 Summit earlier this week where he said “President Putin outsmarted President Obama” on the Russia/Ukraine/Crimea issue. The Daily Caller’s Virginia Kruta sets the scene:

[Trump] claimed that Obama wanted Russia removed from the G7 — then the G8 — because Putin had “tricked” Obama when he invaded the Ukraine on his watch. Trump had then argued that Russia should be allowed to come back to the table, saying that he would rather have them “inside the tent” than outside it.

“They invaded another country and annexed a significant portion of it, called Crimea,” Biden said in response, adding, “He’s saying that it was President … my boss … it was his fault.”

Watch video of Biden’s flub below:

During that same speech, probably preceding it, Biden also mistakenly referred to the G7 Summit as “the G8”:

In fairness, it used to be called the G8 until Russia was effectively kicked out of it in 2014 over their annexation of Crimea. President Obama helped lead the effort to ban Putin from the summit as punishment for his actions.

That isolation is why the summit is now called the G7.

The rising number of gaffes Biden continues to make come at a time when as his aides are furiously trying to wave off any concerns that the former vice president is not up to the task of running for president:

“I think the press has to be more careful about applying an unfair standard to Joe Biden than they’re applying to other candidates,” Bedingfield responded. “If you listen to what the candidates say all day as they’re out campaigning, they’re out in front of cameras, they’re in front of people, they’re talking all day. Everybody’s going to slip up and misstate a name or a date or a location. It happens all the time.”

She continued: “People know who he is. They know this is a part of his charm. They understand that, you know, they’re getting it straight from him. It’s not overly packaged. He’s always speaking from his heart. And sure, that means sometimes he’s going to misstate a couple of things. But, frankly, so does every other candidate.”

It’s true that all candidates make gaffes of some sort. It sort of goes with territory of being on the road non-stop, talking to people, and being surrounded by campaign aides 24-7. But this is different. Very different.

I wrote last week about this issue and speculated that it’s quite possible the frequent mistakes Biden makes on the campaign trail can no longer be boiled down simply to tiredness, long days on the campaign trail, and “Joe being Joe.”

I hope I’m wrong and that this is not “something more” concerning, as some Democrats have hinted it might be.
