Ahhh the good ole New York Times. All the news that is fit to print in luggage via a tweet.

We all know that Donald Trump and the New York Times kinda have a love/hate/reallyhate relationship that is just fun to watch. In fact, Trump tweeted this about the NYT just yesterday…

The New York Times will be out of business soon after I leave office, hopefully in 6 years. They have Zero credibility and are losing a fortune, even now, especially after their massive unfunded liability. I’m fairly certain they’ll endorse me just to keep it all going!

That last line about endorsing him to keep the paper going is what we call some high quality trolling via twitter. Now we can’t be sure if this was the cause of this next tweet but let’s just assume it was.

One of the Times reporters felt the need to report on…..luggage.

Louis Vitton luggage being removed from the baggage hold of AF1.

Now of course in defense of Maggie we don’t know if that is President Trump and his families bags. She doesn’t say either. However, the implication of it all is that a member of America’s military standing under the most protected plane in the world next to some fancy luggage HAS TO BE the guy who takes shots at her employer via twitter.

Honestly, this is not a bad troll job either by the Lois Lane wannabe. I’m not even going to poke fun at her for getting the name of the luggage wrong.  I looked all over for Louis Vitton luggage and I could not find one damn instance of it being made. This is just one of those situations that any young reporter tweeting about luggage would get mixed up when trying to break a story.

Tough business to be in yo.

So here is to you Maggie, for trying to be cute about tweeting about luggage in the hopes the unwashed masses would rise up against POTUS 45 and start a revolution that might gain you some of those SWEET Louis Vitton for when you need to flee the country.

Try next time about tweeting about President Trump’s sox.

On Saturday, I wrote about reports that House Democratic leaders were considering punishment options for the two Jewish ambassadors at the center of the controversy over Israel’s decision last Thursday to bar Democratic Reps. Rashida Tlaib (MI) and Ilhan Omar (MN) from their country on security grounds.

Israeli ambassador to the U.S. Ron Dermer and U.S ambassador to Israel David Friedman were said to be in line for “statements of no confidence” and Inspector General investigations, according to McClatchy:

About a dozen lawmakers, including senior Jewish members, began discussions on Friday morning over ways to communicate a “deep lack of confidence and trust” in Israel’s ambassador to Washington, Ron Dermer, and the U.S. ambassador to Israel, David Friedman, according to two sources familiar with the discussions.

The group is weighing issuing a statement of no confidence in Dermer and opening an inspector general investigation into Friedman’s conduct, the sources said.

[…]

“We are reviewing all of our options,” a senior congressional source told McClatchy. “With Dermer, the issue is that there already was a severe lack of trust. But now there is a severe lack of confidence. It is completely unclear that he represents his government given he has made promises that he has not kept and wasn’t clear if he ever had any chance of keeping.”

The Democratic lawmakers include Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Eliot Engel of New York and Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Nita Lowey of New York.

President Trump weighed in on the report on Sunday, asserting that the news equated to Democrats having “such disdain for Israel”:

The White House issued a more formal statement today on the reports, noting Democrats “cannot change the laws Israel has passed to protect itself”:

“Congresswomen Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar have a well-documented history of anti-Semitic comments, anti-Semitic social media posts and anti-Semitic relationships,” said White House spokesman Hogan Gidley. “Israel has the right to prevent people who want to destroy it from entering the country – and Democrats’ pointless congressional inquiries here in America cannot change the laws Israel has passed to protect itself.”

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) also spoke out against the plan over the weekend, calling it a “SERIOUS mistake”:

Cruz has been one of the more outspoken voices in the Senate speaking out against anti-Semitism. In June, he and Democratic Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA) were successful in getting the Senate to unanimously pass a resolution expressly condemning anti-Semitism.

‘Every Major Union’ In The U.S. Has Undocumented Immigrant Members

Despite evidence that illegal immigration hurts American workers, reduces overall wages, and burdens the welfare system, unions take dues from and fight to protect illegal immigrants on the job.

In early August, when ICE swept up nearly 700 undocumented immigrants working at chicken plants in Mississippi, James P. Hoffa, President of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, condemned the raids.

The undocumented workers, after all, were represented by a union—the United Food and Commercial Workers.

The union movement and its allies on the Left were apoplectic.

Despite the fact entering the United States illegally is, in fact, a crime—as is stealing Americans’ identification to acquire employment—today’s union movement continues to defend and fight for illegal immigrants.

In Mississippi, at one of the raided plants, “the vast majority of the immigrants employed at the plant are undocumented and using fake biographical information,” reported the Clarion Ledger.

At Pearl River Foods in Carthage, agents analyzed employee rolls and found that numerous workers were using stolen identities, Social Security cards that didn’t match their names, or using Social Security cards reported to belong to dead people.

In at least two cases at Pearl River Foods, the allegedly stolen personal information came from people who discovered that someone else had applied for work under their names when they tried to apply for food assistance or unemployment benefits. [Emphasis added.]

While the chicken plants were temporarily without workers, within a short time, hundreds of American job-seekers flocked to a job fair, hoping to get the jobs previously held by the illegal immigrants.

The fact that illegal immigration depresses wages and causes higher unemployment should be cause for concern for so-called “worker advocates.”

However, in 2000, the Executive Council of the AFL-CIO—the largest federation of labor unions in the United States—voted to reverse its long-standing opposition to illegal immigration calling for “an immediate amnesty for undocumented immigrants, and an end to sanctions on employers who hire them.”

Ever since then, the leadership of the AFL-CIO and its member unions have welcomed illegal immigrants into their ranks with some even going so far as to declare themselves “sanctuary unions.”

In 2017, in the face of increased scrutiny the AFL-CIO published a “toolkit,” entitled We Will Defend and Resist, “to equip labor and community organizers, advocates and law practitioners with the necessary information to navigate escalating attacks on immigrant workers and their families.”

After all, “every major union in the United States has immigrant members, documented and undocumented,” states the pro-union Labor Notes.

While there is a separate argument that unions knowingly representing undocumented immigrants is aiding and abetting illegal activity, the fact of the matter is, illegal immigrants depress the wages of American workers.

In fact, according to U.S. Census Bureau data, the median income of “Non Citizens” is more than $9,000 than black Americans.

Overall, Hispanics earn nearly $10,000 more than than black Americans.

Additionally, according to the Center for Immigration Studies, “63 percent of households headed by a non-citizen reported that they used at least one welfare program, compared to 35 percent of native-headed households.”

This costs all Americans through the form either deficit spending or higher taxes.

Yet, despite the toll of illegal immigration has on American workers, unions continue to represent undocumented workers, taking their dues money and fighting their deportations.

‘The Godfather’ Actor Speaks on Chris Cuomo’s Fredo Freakout: ‘His Father Would Smack Him’

CNN correspondents Jeff Gagliano and Chris Cuomo speak on air in front of the Time Warner Building, where NYPD personnel removed an explosive device Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2018, in New York. (AP Photo/Kevin Hagen).

Chris Cuomo’s — brace yourself…I’m about to use a word virtually no one seems to use correctly in political writing these days — viral rant over being called “Fredo” continues to have legs.

An actor from the hit film The Godfather — in which the character Fredo is outshone by his brother, Michael Corleone — is sounding off on Chris’s stunningly expletive-filled and threatening tirade.

Speaking to TMZ, Gianni Russo (who played Michael’s wife-beating brother-in-law in Francis Ford Coppola’s 1972 masterpiece) said Chris’s late dad, former New York Governor Mario, wouldn’t be pleased:

“His father would smack him.”

His opinion isn’t exactly uninformed:

“[I] know the whole family. I know his mother. I was just with his mother recently.”

The interviewer asked, “Is [‘Fredo’] an Italian insult?”

“I can’t believe he would say that,” Gianni replied.

TMZ went for a second helping —  “His father would be ashamed of him for saying that?”

Gianni:

“Of course. I don’t understand why — first of all, it’s a classic film. You’re talking about a character that was weak.”

Back to the tabloid titan:

“[T]hat word, ‘Fredo,’ means ‘weak brother.’ It doesn’t mean anything against the Italian people.”

“I know,” the actor affirmed.

Russo explained his surprise because Chris is a smart guy:

“I couldn’t understand, because he’s such an intelligent kid — educated and everything else. I heard he’s hurt his career.”

The 75-year-old entertainer also touched on the downfall of what was once called “news”:

“All these news guys, they’re so opinionated. They’re supposed to report the news. It’s not about what you think.”

Can he get an Amen?

Gianni’s not a fan of the current Corleone controversy:

“And you’re taking Fredo, a character from a classic? It’s like spitting on the Mona Lisa.”

But he won’t be picking up the phone to tell Chris what’s what:

“I wouldn’t even call him. What are you gonna say? ‘You made a fool outta yourself.’”

In case you haven’t seen the video, I’m including it here. Beware — language:

Personally, I’ve never heard of the movie reference as an Italian slur; have you? Is “Fredo” now some sort of vulgar word?

In terms of Chris’s posturing, chest-puffed, hooliganesque harangue, it seems to me a very bad move. Especially given this self-portrayal as a paragon of virtue.

Also, if he’d done any of the things he was threatening, the other guy would’ve been able to relax on the beach for several years thanks to a robust civil suit. The intimidation factor was surely very low — I doubt the target of Chris’s attack was afraid-O.

Oops.

Elizabeth Warren Does Mea Culpa At Native American Forum and Promptly Scrubs Her Website Of DNA Evidence

(AP Photo/Robert F. Bukaty, File)

It seems like the growing consensus on the left is that Elizabeth Warren is the most likely Democrat nominee for president in 2020. While here far left economics and penchant for promising free stuff that someone else bought appeals to the Democrat base, she comes with a lot of weaknesses. Not the least of which is the fact that for some 40 years she misrepresented herself as someone of American Indian heritage…those high cheekbones are a tell, donchaknow…and used that alleged ethnicity for what, to the casual observer, looks like personal advancement.

Lest you think this misrepresentation was innocent and accidental, it wasn’t. On her Texas Bar application, Warren, in her own handwriting, declares herself to be American Indian.

From 1985 through 1996, the American Association of Law Schools directory, this is the comprehensive directory of law school professors, listed Warren as American Indian. She would have had to vet her personal entry at some point.

In 1996, the Harvard Crimson quotes the Harvard Law spokesman touting Warren as an American Indian faculty member.

After some months of being ridiculed as “Pocahontas” by President Trump (I really wish Trump had called her “Fauxcahontas” just to evade the whole “ethnic slur” bullsh**), she finally broke down and took a DNA test. She claimed vindication.

The results were comical. Somewhere between 6 and 10 generations ago she had one American Indian forebear probably indicating the person lived no later then the mid-18th century.

What should have been the final straw came when the Cherokees, themselves, called bullsh** on Warren’s claims.

But Warren doubled down by placing the documents and video on her campaign website convinced, rightfully, that her rather stupid supporters would go along with whatever she said.

Now the campaign has quietly scrubbed (with a brush??) the website of all mention of the DNA test.

CNN reported Sunday that the campaign planned to scrub sections of Warren’s website dealing with her heritage as part of a reboot of her campaign. The change appears to have been made by Monday, though the content remains viewable on the Internet Wayback Machine.

According to CNN, Warren has met with Native American leaders, and has apologize in private for over-stating her ancestry claims.

As part of her campaign reset, Warren addressed the scandal during a speech Monday at a Native American forum in Sioux City.

“I am sorry for harm I have caused. I have listened and I have learned a lot, and I am grateful for the many conversations that we’ve had together,” she said.

Given the entire parade of numbskullery that led to Warren being exposed as a fraud did she really think that a public mea culpa and a ritualistic banishment of her claims from her website going to prevent President Trump and his surrogates and the rest of us from making her grifting off a lie an issue? Not hardly. The fact that she erased the information simply makes it seem much more like a deliberate deception instead of an accident.

Ultimately, what the folks at this forum think doesn’t mean a lot. American Indians don’t hold the electoral balance of power in any statewide election. The people who are going to decide if this matters are the average voters who understand exactly why Elizabeth Warren did what she did. I don’t think they’ll be cheering.

Portland Mayor Sends Out Disgustingly Tone-Deaf Tweet After Saturday’s Antifa Attacks

Westlake Legal Group ap-ted-wheeler-620x453 Portland Mayor Sends Out Disgustingly Tone-Deaf Tweet After Saturday’s Antifa Attacks Violence ted wheeler Portland Politics Oregon Front Page Stories Featured Story donald trump democrats crime antifa Allow Media Exception

Mayor Ted Wheeler of Portland, Oregon, is currently presiding over a city where he’s not in control due to the fact that he seems to have ceded all power to the domestic terrorist organization Antifa.

Portland is infested with Antifa members and the infection is only getting worse as time passes without Wheeler taking any measures against them. In fact, he seems to be in complete support of them given the fact that he’s reportedly ordered police to stand down and let Antifa do as they please in the past.

Portland is a city in chaos, yet according to Wheeler, it’s a beautiful city where nothing wrong is happening as evidenced by a tweet he sent out on Sunday, just a day after Antifa gathered en masse and forcefully attacked Trump supporters with deadly objects.

As the Daily Wire first reported, Wheeler sent out a tweet Sunday afternoon with a picture of him

and his wife holding hands as they walked into a market.

“Sundays in Portland,” tweeted Wheeler.

It’s a serene, peaceful picture that paints Portland as the friendly and quaint place popularized by media.

But here’s the real Portland.

Whether Wheeler is trying to lie to America to paint a rosy picture of Portland that defies Trump’s attention to it, or he’s trying to make it seem like Antifa was successful in fending off white supremacists from the city (as a Democrat on CNN suggested) he’s failing at both.

Wheeler comes off more as a false-leader, huckster, and a sociopath more than anything else, and the internet made sure he understood that.

Mainstream Media Fully Endorse NY Times’ Decree To Pivot En Masse From Russian Collusion To Racism

Westlake Legal Group AP_080722043710-620x306 Mainstream Media Fully Endorse NY Times’ Decree To Pivot En Masse From Russian Collusion To Racism progressives President Trump Politics New York Times' Dean Baquet Mainstream Media Juan Williams journalism Front Page Stories Featured Story donald trump democrats byron york Allow Media Exception 2020 1619 project

And they’re off…

The mainstream media sure know a good idea when they hear one. And they heard an extraordinary one via a secretly recorded staff address from The New York Times’ executive editor Dean Baquet. He told his team that, although their two-year long focus on President Trump’s collusion with the Russians had been an incredible success, it was time for writers, as a group, to shift their attention.

Baquet explained to the newsroom staff:

We built our newsroom to cover one story, and we did it truly well. Now we have to regroup and shift resources and emphasis to take on a different story.

That different story is race — and Trump. We’ve got to change. I mean, the vision for coverage for the next two years is what I talked about earlier: How do we cover a guy who makes these kinds of remarks? How do we cover the world’s reaction to him? How do we do that while continuing to cover his policies? How do we cover America, that’s become so divided by Donald Trump?

The newspaper actually hopes to achieve two goals. First, they are requesting that their writers drill down on the President’s racism. Second, they are attempting to “reframe” U.S. history. You may think America was founded in 1776, but the Times believes that it all really began in 1619 when the first slaves arrived in America.

They devoted an entire issue of the New York Times Magazine toward explaining what they refer to as the “1619 Project.’ Lest you think I’m exaggerating, the paper states:

The goal of the 1619 Project is to reframe American history. It aims to reframe the country’s history, understanding 1619 as our true founding, and placing the consequences of slavery and the contributions of black Americans at the very center of the story we tell ourselves about who we are.

Our democracy’s founding ideals were false when they were written. Black Americans have fought to make them true.

The editors plan to “teach” this new version of history to their readers and introduce it into the schools.

The Washington Examiner’s Byron York read the entire paper and wrote that the basic thrust of the 1619 project is that everything in American history is explained by slavery and race. He explains:

The essays go on to cover the economy (“If you want to understand the brutality of American capitalism, you have to start on the plantation.”), the food we eat (“The sugar that saturates the American diet has a barbaric history as the ‘white gold’ that fueled slavery.”), the nation’s physical health (“Why doesn’t the United States have universal healthcare? The answer begins with policies enacted after the Civil War.”), politics (“America holds onto an undemocratic assumption from its founding: that some people deserve more power than others.”), daily life (“What does a traffic jam in Atlanta have to do with segregation? Quite a lot.”), and much more.

Anyway, you get the idea. A recording of Baquet’s remarks was leaked to Slate and now the entire mainstream media have heard the message.

And they like it – a lot.

It’s been obvious that once the Mueller report was released, we began to see a shift away from “Trump colluded with the Russians” narrative and an increase in the “Trump is a racist and a white supremacist and you are too if you voted for him” narrative. Now, the pivot toward race and racism will be impossible to miss.

Trump was quick to jump on this story. He responded by tweet:

Fox News’ token liberal, Juan Williams, has published an editorial in The Hill which shows he has already fallen into line. Juan has found the answer. Democrats need to hit Trump where it hurts – in the wallet. And, just as the New York Times has requested, he wastes no time in bringing it back to race.

Williams praises Joaquin Castro’s (D-TX) move to publish the names of Trump’s donors as well as his defense. Castro tweeted, “Donald Trump has put a target on the back of millions. And you’re too cowardly or agreeable to say anything about it. How about I stop mentioning Trump’s public campaign donors and he stops using their money for ads that fuel hate?”

Williams was especially excited about a new ad Castro has run on Fox News which says, “As we saw in El Paso, Americans were killed because you stoked the fire of racists. Innocent people were shot down because they look different from you; because they look like me.” Williams wrote, “Paying for a television ad to rebuke Trump as a racist has the potential to penetrate the far-right bubble.” It will never happen.

I think Williams is naive and, as they used to say, has been drinking the kool-aid.

He tells his readers with great enthusiasm that, “Many Democratic presidential candidates are already on record calling the president a racist.” He implies that since everyone in this group says it, it is therefore true. Their opinions on most issues differ only by degrees and they all agree on a lot of stupid and unsustainable things such as medicare for all, open borders and free healthcare for illegal immigrants. The entire field of 2020 hopefuls are committing group suicide by moving so sharply to the left.

Next, he applauds Rep. Al Green’s (D-TX) “new, money-based rationale for House Democrats to begin impeaching Trump — to put a spotlight on Trump’s big donors.”

Green told MSNBC that “impeachment would result in Trump becoming persona non grata to a good many of these wealthy people.” He said that these donors see Trump as a “beneficial bigot” and added:

Those donors are giving money in exchange for right-wing judges on the courts and tax cuts for the rich. So he has benefitted them to the extent that they will tolerate his bigotry. When you tolerate bigotry, you perpetuate bigotry.

Let’s remember that Green has introduced articles of impeachment against Trump three times and has failed.

Finally, Williams argues “Polling indicates that this new willingness to confront Trump’s use of racial division has the potential to pay dividends.” It also has the ability to backfire spectacularly. Especially now that the cat is out of the bag. The New York Times grandiose plan has been exposed for all the world to see.

We don’t have to guess what their agenda is. We know it. We even have it in writing.

‘Painting Trump as a racist while transforming the way Americans view history’ is a rather ambitious goal. The New York Times wants to alter our thoughts, shape our opinions and to gain control over us. They’ve issued a call to action accompanied by specific instructions. This is no longer journalism.

On the contrary, it sounds a lot like a strategy for a coup. They must never succeed.

Readers?

“Italian Americans Are Not Mafia”: Gov. Andrew Cuomo Defends Brother Chris in “Fredo” Controversy

This is quite possibly one of the most New York stories ever.

One week after CNN‘s Chris Cuomo went ballistic on an alleged right-wing provocateur who approached him and called him “Fredo”, his brother Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) has come to his defense.

The New York Daily News reports:

Gov. Cuomo came out swinging in defense of his TV host brother Chris Cuomo who got embroiled in a nasty confrontation with a stranger who called him “Fredo.”

The governor insisted he’s never even watched The Godfather, where the supposed slur originates, from start to finish and said their famous dad refused to watch the film on principle.

“Italian Americans are not Mafia,” Andrew Cuomo told WAMC radio. “Don’t you dare liken my family to the family you saw in The Godfather or the The Sopranos.”

Andrew Cuomo said bigotry and slurs aimed at Italians [are] as dangerous as xenophobia and anti-Semitism, citing the mass shootings in El Paso and at a Pittsburgh synagogue last year.

“It’s all ugliness,” he said.

Along with “Fredo,” which refers to a thick-headed character in the famed mafia flick, Andrew Cuomo railed against the use of other anti-Italian insults, like “wop” and “dago.”

You can listen to the interview segment Gov. Cuomo did on WAMC here.

Here’s a recap of what happened during the tense exchange on Shelter Island last week between Cuomo and an unidentified man, courtesy of the New York Post:

“Punk-ass bitches from the right call me ‘Fredo.’ My name is Chris Cuomo, I’m an anchor on CNN,” the newsman says in the video, which was shared on Twitter Monday evening.

“Fredo is from ‘The Godfather,’ he was a weak brother and the use of it to an Italian is disparaging,” he continues.

The 49-year-old anchor tells the man that the name “Fredo” is as offensive to Italian Americans as the N-word is to African Americans.

“Don’t f–king insult me like that,” the Queens native fumes. “You call me ‘Fredo,’ it’s like I call you punk bitch, you like that?”

The man in the video insists that he believed the anchor’s real name was Fredo.

But Cuomo, a dad of three, doesn’t buy it.

“You did not think that … stand up like a man,” he seethes. “Own what you said.”

The situation then escalates, with Cuomo telling the man: “I’ll f–king throw you down these stairs like a f–king punk … you’re gonna call me Fredo, take a f–king swing? I’ll f–king wreck your s–t.”

Because a mere recap doesn’t do the video itself justice of what went down, watch it below:

The “PrimeTime” anchor later expressed regret over his behavior but did not apologize:

Gov. Cuomo also stated during his Monday interview that his late father, former Gov. Mario Cuomo, “would not watch” the “Godfather” movie. “My father wouldn’t watch the movie because it was anti-Italian.”

NBC News partially disputed Cuomo’s claim, saying the elder Cuomo did finally watch the movie at the age of 81.

Speaking of NBC News, they win the day with this clever take on the governor’s interview:

Heh.

Alexander Working with House Dems to get ‘Billing’ Measure Pegged to Medicare Package

Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Chair Lamar Alexander (R-TN) is working with House Democrats to insert his controversial version of “surprise medical billing” legislation into the Medicare extenders package that must pass by the end of September, Capitol Hill sources tell RedState.

A Medicare extenders package is a bundle of small programs that require funding or updating to stabilize the program at large. They come up every year or two. Because Medicare extenders are “must-pass” legislation, some powerful politicians like to jam their bills into the package in order to avoid debate and up-or-down votes on flawed and stalled legislation.

Sources say Alexander is scheming with House Energy and Commerce Chair Frank Pallone (D-NJ) to execute the parliamentary maneuver with House Democrats to get the language of the Alexander legislation inserted into the Medicare extenders bill.

If Alexander and Pallone are successful, Conservatives in the Senate, who favor a more free-market approach to Alexander’s legislation, will be denied a clean vote on legislation to stop a practice President Donald Trump has called a “horrible injustice.”

Surprise medical billing, as David Williams of the Taxpayers Protection Alliance explains, “happens when a patient receives out-of-network care at an emergency room or hospital. The patient is later hit with the ‘surprise’ of sky-high bills for treatments and services they had assumed would be covered by insurance.”

The issue with Alexander’s Lower Health Care Costs Act is the fact that it allows the government to set reimbursement rates when insurance companies and healthcare providers have a billing or coverage dispute.

As Williams explains:

Legislation introduced in both the House of Representatives and the Senate would put in place a government-mandated benchmarking approach to settle payment disputes between insurers and physicians. On the surface, this may solve one problem by protecting patients from “surprise billing.” But this “solution” would merely give rise to an entirely new, and much more serious, set of problems that would seriously compromise medical care for patients nationwide.

Benchmarking would lead to government rate-setting and amount to price controls in which Washington, D.C. bureaucrats would be charged with determining and setting rates for physicians across the country. This would be a national healthcare nightmare.

Williams – and evidently a majority of Republican Senators – support a different proposal, Sen. Bill Cassidy’s (R-LA) “STOP Surprise Medical Billing Act”:

Instead, Congress should work to incorporate a market-based approach into legislation that addresses surprise billing issues. Fortunately, one such approach has already been outlined in the STOP Surprise Medical Bills Act, S. 1531. The legislation calls for an Independent Dispute Resolution (IDR) system that would empower doctors and insurers to negotiate openly, fairly, and transparently in order to resolve out-of-network payment disputes.

IDR is the only solution in Congress that has a winning track record. New York implemented a similar system back in 2015, and it has not only protected patients from “surprise billing,” but also helped increase network participation and decrease out-of-network rates and billing. All of that while keeping costs stable for care provided by emergency room doctors.

Alexander has been unwilling to negotiate with Senate Conservatives backing the IDR approach and has now turned to the Democrats to put together enough support to cram his bill in through the back door.

All parties involved should be commended for tackling the brutal practice of surprise billing. But Alexander’s bill is too friendly to insurance companies and puts the government in the driver’s seat. Alexander should sit down with Cassidy and other Conservatives to craft a plan that includes IDR.

Kamala Harris Says She’s Not Okay With the Bernie Sanders’ Healthcare Plan Co-Sponsored by Kamala Harris

Kamala Harris – Caricature by DonkeyHotey, licensed under CC BY-SA 2.0/Original

Yeah, you read the title correctly.

According to the Daily Caller, the 2020 presidential candidate and California Senator Kamala Harris recently said that she’s opposed to the healthcare plan put forth by fellow Democrat and 2020 competitor Sen. Bernie Sanders despite the fact that she herself co-sponsored it.

Harris noted during a series of fundraisers with wealthy donors in the Hamptons that she “has not been comfortable” with the Medicare-for-all plan despite putting her signature on it in 2018. Joining her signature is Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Sen. Corey Booker, 2020 candidates all.

This is yet another confusing turn from Harris, who seems to have a different answer to the health care question by the day. At one point, Harris said she wanted to eliminate private health insurance completely, but quickly walked that back when it proved to be unpopular. Then, once again, she endorsed the idea of getting rid of private insurance, even going so far as to endorse Sanders’ Medicare-for-all bill, but made it clear that she doesn’t want to walk back all private insurance despite it being in Sanders’ bill.

…which she co-sponsored.

…despite the fact that she’s apparently uncomfortable with it.

…even though it does exactly what she wants, give or take a longer timeline.

If you’re confused, don’t blame me. This is Harris’s doing.

What is likely going on is that Harris is caught between two types of voters. The moderate voters and wealthy donors who have private insurance they’d like to keep, and the radical base that has taken over her party which seeks to eliminate privatized anything. It’s not just you who’s confused, Harris seems to be too.

The more Harris tries to line up her messaging to embrace what’s popular, the more confused she becomes, but it does expose a fatal flaw in her as a politician. She’s not concerned about principle, she’s concerned about popularity. What she embraces today may be taboo tomorrow, and when it comes to the mob, what is taboo changes frequently.

Harris will soon find herself on the bad side of everyone and will see her approval numbers begin to freefall as a result.
