Four hundred years ago this month, the first ship carrying African slaves came to the shores of the New World. This ship would be the first of many, and it would help establish one of the worst institutions of American economic history. It was an institution that would officially last for 250 years, more than half of our country’s lifespan, and it would taint many of the institutions that would come during and after American slavery.

None of this is new to you, and none of it is new to the vast majority of American citizens. That isn’t stopping New York Times Magazine from launching an interactive website that declares its mission to revise American history as we know it and tell it from a viewpoint that can only lead its readers to assume that America is terrible, has always been terrible, and, without some sort of political revolution, will continue to be terrible.

The site’s mission statement reads as follows:

The 1619 Project is a major initiative from The New York Times observing the 400th anniversary of the beginning of American slavery. It aims to reframe the country’s history, understanding 1619 as our true founding, and placing the consequences of slavery and the contributions of black Americans at the very center of the story we tell ourselves about who we are.

There in the opening, you see the purpose. It is not merely an insight into another side of American history, but rather a “reframing” of the entire history. It declares that 1619 is the true founding of our nation (an absurd notion given that imperial British culture and beliefs were a central pillar in the structure and governance of the colonies until the mid-1700s) and that everything since is tainted by the lingering effects of the racism inherent in the system.

There should, in fact, be no argument that racism is still very prevalent today, and that slavery was an abhorrent institution within the United States. It also cannot logically be argued that America hasn’t come a long, long way since slavery was introduced into the American colonies, nor can it be argued that America has gone far enough in washing the stink of the institution from our society.

But even if you were to assume the worst of America’s history of racial inequality and treatment, it requires still an even further and more impossible leap to take you from there to calling the founding principles of America an outright lie, given all of the evidence we have of the Founders and their beliefs in liberty.

However, that is exactly what the leading essay on the website declares.

The United States is a nation founded on both an ideal and a lie. Our Declaration of Independence, approved on July 4, 1776, proclaims that “all men are created equal” and “endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights.” But the white men who drafted those words did not believe them to be true for the hundreds of thousands of black people in their midst. “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” did not apply to fully one-fifth of the country.

If this is the sort of revisionist perspective the Times is willing to employ in its opening attempts to “reframe” the narrative of the founding and trajectory of the country, then the entire enterprise is tainted and its credibility utterly shattered.

The man most responsible for America’s Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson, frequently worked on legislation in Virginia that would abolish slavery. George Washington benefitted from slavery, but also saw it as being at odds with America’s founding – upon his death, he freed his slaves. George Mason (one of the more underappreciated of the founders) objected to the Constitution not only on the grounds that it did not contain a Bill of Rights but also that it did not call for the end of the slave trade, a vital step in eliminating slavery in the United States.

Alexander Hamilton is cited by several biographers as hating slavery and being an abolitionist (though his personal letters and other documents say little on the subject, much of this assumption comes from second-hand sources). John Adams is one of the few notable founders to have never owned slaves, though he opposed radical (immediate) abolition during his presidency, telling abolitionists he would be open to an incremental plan (likely to minimize the economic effect on the southern states).

It is not only inaccurate to say that the founders tried to hold on to slavery, but it is far from the truth. The delegates to the constitutional convention who favored slavery were those in the southern states, where slavery was most prevalent. And while each of the men stated above had their flaws – Washington and Jefferson owned slaves, and Jefferson, in particular, was vocal about how inferior he felt the black man was (he favored “freedom” through expulsion) – the idea that they broke away from Britain solely to maintain slavery in the states is deeply rooted in revisionist fantasy and not fact.

The author is not doing anything new with this essay. For decades, many liberal historians and activists have worked over and around not just the personal documents of the Founders but much of the outwardly expressed public sentiment of revolutionary Americans, all in an effort to declare that the founding of America was a business proposition, a special interest project of slave owners and businessmen meant to benefit them at the expense of black slaves and poor farmers. What the Times does is take the old idea and adorn it with a pretty website and grandiose language.

What the essay, and indeed the entire tone of the “1619 Project”, declares then is that the Constitution itself is illegitimate because it is based on a lie. This is the same New York Times that openly laments every single Constitutional violation and delegitimization orchestrated by President Donald Trump’s administration.

In other words, they’d like you to believe Trump is delegitimizing an illegitimate document.

America is imperfect and will continue to be imperfect. That does not make what the country stands for illegitimate. Rather, the Constitution is both a founding document and a goal. This is what the country is supposed to look like, and it is our job as active and engaged citizens to strive for that. Yes, we have many different ideas as to how to achieve it, but the end goal is the same for a great many of us: We want to see it work.

Projects like this do not work toward that goal. They undermine it. At a time when our national press complains about being called “the enemy,” many of its most established members are openly advocating the undermining of the country – and are essentially calling for a political and cultural revolution to change it.

Hell Just Froze Over: LGBT Group Endorses Donald Trump

Westlake Legal Group donald-trump-rally-lgbtq-women-SCREENSHOT-300x160 Hell Just Froze Over: LGBT Group Endorses Donald Trump white house washington D.C. progressives President Trump Log Cabin Republicans LGBT Gender Issues gay rights Front Page Stories Featured Story Allow Media Exception 2019

I never get sick of saying the phrase ” Will Miracles Never Cease” because in the AGE OF TRUMP all the rules seem to be broken.

In a 180-degree turn from just 3 years ago, the Log Cabin Republicans have decided to endorse Donald Trump for re-election in 2020. The same group refused to endorse him in 2016.

What gives? From USA Today…

In an op-ed published Thursday in The Washington Post, Robert Kabel, the group’s chairman, and Jill Homan, the vice chairwoman, declared that “The Log Cabin Republicans endorse Donald Trump for reelection as president.”

“To be treated equally, fairly and justly under the law is our goal, and we know that ‘Inclusion Wins’ is a mantra we share with the president,” the group added.

Kabel and Homan noted the party’s progress on LGBTQ representation.

They highlighted how Peter Thiel, the billionaire entrepreneur who co-founded PayPal and Palantir, was able to take the stage at the 2016 GOP convention and declare he was gay, a Republican, and an American – a far cry from the 1992 convention, when Pat Buchanan had decried gay marriage and slammed the “pro-lesbian” and “pro-gay” platform of Bill Clinton and Al Gore.

Well, that blows conventional wisdom out the window and most of the talking points from CNN, MSNBC, The New York Times and anything you hear on The Young Turks. The Donald Trump is a racist or homophobe line of reasoning is not new in how it is used in politics against Republicans. However it is new against a guy who has spent over 40 years in the public eye and never once did you hear anyone breathe he was racist, homophobic or a bad tipper.

There are a lot of things you could try making an argument policy-wise against Trump. Yet when the left resorts to this it means that they have literally run out of ammo.

Of course, this did not make some people on twitter happy and they let it be known. Jon Cooper let it be known that he has seen polling data and this is unacceptable.

The Log Cabin Republicans’ endorsement of Trump is truly despicable & shameful, although sadly not surprising. Luckily, they don’t speak for 99% of LGBTQ Americans who are fully aware of all Trump has done to reverse steps towards #LGBTQ equality.

Well if Jon knows for sure that 99% numkber is correct I’m sure he could share the data with us being it has to be floating out there somewhere other than just in his head. Although I dont think anyone knows what 99% of ANY group is actually thinking. Maybe I’m just being difficult here.

That the Log Cabin Republicans decided to reverse a decsion on endorsing should not be overlooked. They are going to take a lot of heat from the media and from people like Jon above who are going to make up false numbers and create really big strawman to knock down to promote stupidity as a virtue.

Dont let them do it with no response. Push back with humor and watch thier heads explode.

Hyper Partisan FEC Chairwoman Loses Her Crap After Her Conspiracy Hoax Is Rejected

One of the many side alleys of the mainstream Russia Hoax was the idea that Russia was funneling cash into the NRA so the NRA could support Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign. This was a baldfaced attempt to bootstrap the hoax aimed at removing President Trump from office into a way of neutering the influence of the nation’s major gun rights organization.

This leftwing fantasy began as a McClatchy article published on January 18, 2018. The article was by Greg Gordon and Peter Stone who have a rather sordid record of being in the middle of a lot of the controversial reporting on the Russia Hoax. They reported that Michael Cohen’s cell phone had been detected in Prague (false) and that the FBI was looking into how Breitbart and InfoWars were helping the Russians help Trump (also false).

One of the battalion of liberal “watchdog” groups, American Democracy Legal Fund, filed an FEC complaint on Jan. 31, 2018 citing this article as its only proof.

A lot of water has passed under the bridge since then. Most notably the Mueller report found nothing at all about this nonsense and the woman at Ground Zero, Maria Butina, pleaded guilty to failure to register under the Foreign Agents Registration Act. All in all, this was a transparent smear. One that seems to have been hatched by Glenn Simpson’s merry band of cretins at Fusion GPS because Simpson pushed the story to his go-to guy in Justice, Bruce Ohr. In fact, those allegations kicked off an investigation of the NRA by the FBI.

On May 28 of this year, the career lawyers in the FEC’s office of legal counsel recommended dismissing the case because it was vague, based on a single newspaper article, and provided zero details of the alleged offense.

On July 9, the FEC voted to drop the investigation. The FEC chairwoman, an anti-Trump Democrat named Ellen Weintruab, went ballistic.

Some allegations are too serious to ignore. Too serious to simply take Respondents’ denials at face value. Too serious to play games with. Yet in this matter, my colleagues ran their
usual evidence-blocking play and the Commission’s attorneys placed too much faith in the few facts Respondents put before us.

As a result, this agency barely lifted a finger to find out the truth behind one of the most blockbuster campaign finance allegations in recent memory.

In this matter, the complaint credibly alleged that a significant violation of the Act may have occurred. It was based upon a news report from a reputable news source that led with this
striking paragraph:

The FBI is investigating whether a top Russian banker with ties to the Kremlin illegally funneled money to the National Rifle Association to help Donald Trump win the presidency, two sources familiar with the matter have told McClatchy.

You can read the whole screed here.

Bottom line, this high performing imbecile or low rent Democrat apparatchik (those Venn diagrams are largely the same, but, for the sake of fairness you can choose which description you think best describes Weintraub) demanded that the FEC launch an investigation based on a single article by a couple of McClatchy writers who have a tendency to grossly misrepresent the facts. And by misrepresent I mean “totally make up.”

The mischief this sort of policy would create should be obvious to anyone. It means that a single article by virtually anyone would meet the threshold for kicking off an FEC investigation even thought the career staff thought it was bogus.

What makes Weintraub’s panty wetting episode all the more egregious is that everything she wishes to investigate has already been investigated and nothing was found. Not a huge surprise as at the time of the alleged influx of Russian cash, the NRA was expecting, like the rest of us, a Hillary Clinton presidency and a highly politicized Justice Department climbing up their butt. Her play here was simply an attempt to create another corrupt investigation to replace Mueller’s, but one without any supervision by anyone. And when that failed, she’s trying to dirty up her Republican colleagues as stooges hiding Russian influence.

So shameful. So typically Democrat.

But, at least Rachel Maddow now has a reason to live

90-Year-Old Man Gets Arrested for Murdering His 83-Year-Old Wife

They say whenever a married woman is killed, the husband is the first you should look.

Apparently, sometimes people feel stuck in their situation. To the frustrated and murderous, divorce can appear a less attractive option than more severe means.

But what about when it’s almost over anyway?

That made no difference to a 90-year-old man in South Carolina, according to investigators.

Nonagenarian Edwin Nelson, Jr., ‘fessed up to shooting his 83-year-old wife, Sarah M. Nelson.

Deputies showed up at the geriatric couple’s residence in Ridgeville at 5:20 a.m. Saturday. Dispatch had gotten a call from the man of the house.

Cops located both the victim and suspect. Mrs. Nelson had passed away at the scene.

I’ve said it before: You never know what’s going on with people. Or behind closed doors.

Regardless of the catalyst for such a terrible act, one thing seems extremely likely: For both Edwin and Sarah Nelson — considering the situation in which they both ended up — life surely must not have been filled with joy.

It’s a good reminder: Make your life choices carefully.

A motive has yet to be determined, but Edwin confessed to murdering his wife.

A bond hearing was set for Sunday morning.

“For years, I dreamed of an end to talk of Russian collusion. Decades, even. Sadly, it never, ever came.”

Those are the feared words of my autobiography.

Written when I’m 97…

…as I hear MSNBC discuss the investigation by nursing home legend and Lifespan-World-Record-Holder Robert Mueller

It just can never end. It just can’t.

So what of the man who started it all, under whose watch was initiated Operation Crossfire Hurricane?

Here’s a bit of interesting info, perhaps: According to filings by the Federal Election Commission, so far this year, James Comey and his wife have contributed nearly $20,000 to Democrats.

Comey got canned within four months of Trump taking the White House, and he’s been outspokenly proud to be magnanimously anti-MAGA.

In fact, he’s called on America to decimate The Donald.

From a December appearance in New York City:

“All of us should use every breath we have to make sure the lies stop on January 20, 2021.”

So here’s how some of his donations break down:

Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota got $2,700; so did Virginia’s Jennifer Wexton and Abigail Spanberger.

Comey’s wife, Patrice, gave the same amount to Kamala Harris, with an additional $2.8K going to her primary campaign.

Patrice also threw $1,000 to Emily’s List — a liberal PAC supporting pro-choice candidates.

As for that scandalous night when Donald J. snagged the most powerful position on earth, Patrice wanted Hillary Clinton to win — as she confided George Stephanopoulos — “really badly.”

Things used to be a fair bit different: James was, at a time, a Republican.

He once gave wads of dough to male 2008 and 2012 hopefuls — John McCain and Mitt Romney.

As I said, things have definitely changed.

Bonus, from The Washington Free Beacon:

Patrice gave a $10,000 contribution to the Fair Fight PAC, a committee linked to failed Georgia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, in mid-May. Abrams recently pushed $1.2 million from the PAC to Fair Fight Action, an affiliated dark money group that is ramping up voter-related initiatives for the 2020 elections.

Let’s Talk About Beto – He’s Sure Talking About You…Racists

Yo’ve seen it all before: Someone runs for President and starts to teach America about itself.

Beto O’Rourke wants all of you to know about all of you; and a lot of you, as it turns out, are racist.

At Saturday night’s Third Annual Clinton Dinner in Little Rock, Arkansas, Beto said…

Well, actually, let’s look at some other things he’s said up ’til now.

From “Beto O’Rourke Assigns Blame For The El Paso Shooting“:

From “Communist Revolutionary: Privileged Millionaire Beto Vows To Destroy America’s Wealth & Privilege“:

Beto — who inherited millions and married into half a billion — promised to get rid of…himself.

From “Beto Tweets Condemnation To A President Who Doesn’t Exist & Continues His Vapid Contribution To The Politics Of Nothingness“:

Recently, he let you know what’s good enough for ya:

“There have even been some who suggested that I stay in Texas and run for Senate. But that would not be good enough for this community. That would not be good enough for El Paso. That would not be good enough for this country.”

So only he is good enough for you.

And what’s good enough for you is for you to be told you’re racist.

So let me get this straight… Let’s assume for a moment that Beto’s referring to racism against non-whites by white people.

If true, that means here’s his plan to snag the Oval Office:

Tell the minority of people they’re being unjustly attacked by A-holes. Tell the majority they’re the A-holes.

Does that sound like a good approach to getting a winning number of votes?

Maybe it is.

I guess we’ll find out.

It seems to be working for him — so far, he might have at least 3%.

Good goin’.

White House Economic Advisor Larry Kudlow: ‘There’s No Recession on the Horizon.’ But a 2020 Dreamer Disagrees

Westlake Legal Group us-dollars-84594_1280-620x413 White House Economic Advisor Larry Kudlow: ‘There’s No Recession on the Horizon.’ But a 2020 Dreamer Disagrees Uncategorized Front Page Stories Featured Story

Bill Maher has said more than once that a recession would totally be worth it in order to evict the current White House resident (here), but Trump economic advisor Larry Kudlow made his opinion clear on Fox News Sunday: There’s nothing of the sort awaiting.

Guest host Dana Periono asked Larry about the President’s actions to prevent the Big One, particularly given that short-term Treasury bonds dropped below that of longer-term bonds last week. Such a tank can foreshadow recession; in fact, the fall caused 2019’s  worst single-day loss for stocks so far.

But Mr. Kudlow said The Donald’s doings are motoring things right along:

“The Trump pro-growth program, which I believe has been succeeding, we’re going to stay with that.”

And, to put it bluntly, the notion of a recession’s hogwash:

“There’s no recession on the horizon. What’s wrong with a little optimism?”

Larry was a busy man Sunday — he also guested on NBC’s Meet the Press, where Chuck Todd called him on the carpet a bit.

The host pointed out that Larry was similarly confident in 2017, just before the Great Recession — Larry fouled up.

And he fessed up:

“I plead guilty to that.”

But he still believes we’re fine.

Pete Buttigieg, for what it’s worth, disagrees. He told CNN’s State of the Union as much:

“We’ve got an economy not working for most Americans. … Most Americans can’t get ahead. … And the President had made it abundantly clear he doesn’t care.”

#ThingsCandidatesSay

Pete claimed we’re “probably” on the cusp of an economic descent.

Maybe Bill Maher will get his wish after all.

Then again, Buttigieg may not have the best judgement — just ask Black Lives Matter.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), the current chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, appeared on “Sunday Morning Futures” with Maria Bartiromo to discuss the state of the ongoing “investigations of the investigators.”

The first report to be released, DOJ IG Michael Horowitz’, is expected in September. Originally expected in May or June, reluctant witnesses including State Department official Kathleen Kavalec, came forward at the last minute and the additional information provided required additional work by Horowitz’s team.

Graham told Bartiromo, “I believe the Horowitz report will be ugly and damning, That report has been anticipated for months, but it has faced delays in recent months…Every time you turn around you find something new. Mr. Horowitz is doing a very in-depth dive.”

His committee is waiting for the IG report to come out before calling their own list of witnesses. For starters, he will call one-time Trump campaign advisor George Papadopoulos to testify before his committee.

Graham said, “I want to declassify as much as possible … I don’t want people to believe what I said, I want them to read for themselves how bad it was. I want it all out, I want people to see how off the rails this investigation got, and I want people to be held accountable, and I am patient. I’m not in a hurry to do it, I want to do it right.”

Obviously, Graham is privy to far more information than we are, but even so, he still has many questions himself. He told Bartiromo he is “curious about the role the CIA played here…Who knew about this in the White House? Was President Obama briefed … I’d like to know that.”

Asked about the recently released Fox News poll which showed the top four Democratic presidential candidates ahead of Trump, he answered, “Well, I’m not buying it…Unless the President has a serious blunder in Afghanistan, he is going to clean their clock on the stage.” He believes that the Democrats’ sharp turn to the left “will lead to a Trump victory in 2020.”

He defended Israel’s decision to barr entry to Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Rashida Tlaib (D-MN) over their support for the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement aimed at economically crippling Israel.

It’s been bipartisan up to now about Israel…Israel’s enemies are enemies of the U.S. as well.

Those who want to destroy Israel want to destroy us. Name one radical Islamic group that wants to destroy the State Israel that doesn’t want to destroy America.

The policies coming out of the Democratic Party toward Israel are dangerous. Tlaib and Omar openly calling for an economic boycott of the State of Israel which will destroy the State of Israel.

The bottom line here is they are radical when it comes to Israel, they’re radical on the economy, they’re weak when it comes to fighting terrorism. Donald Trump is going to win this election because he’s been a damn good president and what they are trying to do is make America a socialist country, and that’s not going to work.

Needless to say, Graham was vehemently opposed to calls from the Democrats last week to “expand” the Supreme Court. “When you hear expanding the court, that’s code for liberals packing the court. Over my dead body, it’s not going to happen.”

The full interview can be viewed here.

A little something to look forward to after the Labor Day holiday.

Noway this doesn’t succeed.

NeverTrump Godfather Bill Kristol has apparently had a discussion with Anthony Scaramucci about trying to force President Donald Trump off the ballot in 2020.

The “Never Trump” movement has a new ally: hedge fund boss Anthony Scaramucci, who was fired in 2017 after serving 11 days as communications director in President Donald Trump’s White House.

Anti-Trump pundit and veteran Republican operative Bill Kristol confirmed to CNBC in a few brief text messages that he has spoken to Scaramucci since the SkyBridge Capital founder had a public falling out with Trump this summer. Asked whether he has spoken to Scaramucci about trying to find another presidential candidate to replace Trump on the top of the GOP ticket next year, Kristol said: “Yup.”

Kristol is like the old creepy dude in his 30s who can’t hold a job down but still tries to pick up high school chicks. He just can’t accept that he’s past his prime and no longer has any influence so you get irrational, flailing attempts at gaining relevance like this.

He tried to mount a challenger to Trump in 2016 after the primary ended and failed spectacularly. He then ran the Weekly Standard, once a stalwart conservative publication, into the grave. Because failing up is always a thing among D.C. elite though, he managed to secure funding from a left-wing billionaire to start The Bulwark, which is a blog so low trafficked that there’s noway the writers there are actually making money from what they write. How long the gravy train propping them up lasts is anyone’s guess but there’s apparently no shortage of donors willing to fall for Kristol’s continued grift.

Meanwhile, Scaramucci is in the midst of a feud with the President because that’s the timeline we live in now. After being an adamant supporter of Trump for years, Scaramucci felt he needed to start securing more TV appearances. You know, for the people or something. The quickest way to do that in today’s media environment is to become part of the #Resistance. Sure enough, the press were more than happy to reward his transformation and CNN signed him on as a regular contributor the moment he started saying Trump shouldn’t be re-elected.

These are the people we are told have “principles” and are our moral betters.

To see these two characters try to join forces is comical. It’s also a plan that’s doomed to failure. Whatever level they are truly allying, there’s exactly a 0.0% chance that Donald Trump is forced out as the Republican nominee for 2020. The only way Trump isn’t on the ballot is if he chooses not to be and that’s not going to happen. Even if there was some possible master plan to knock Trump out in 2020, it certainly won’t be carried out by Bill Kristol and Anthony freaking Scaramucci.

These people are nothing by con artists desperate for their next score.

The NeverTrumpers Rediscover the Binary Election

Minnesota law allowed in-person voting to begin Friday — a full 46 days early — making it the first battleground state to begin casting actual votes in the broader fight for control of Congress. Since 2016, it seems like there has been an effort to mainstream the argument that American elections are not binary. Not only is the idea counterintuitive (in our two party system the only possible winners are not named Evan McMullin) but is seems like that it was invented to persuade people to not vote for Donald Trump. If we go back to 2016 we can find:

The Daily Wire The Myth Of The Binary Choice
Believe it or not, this is an argument for using your vote for private virtue signaling.

Chicago Tribune (only significant because the writer is Ramesh Ponuru) You don’t have to vote for Trump or Clinton
Also an argument for using your vote for private virtue signaling.

Reason Politics ‘Is Only A Binary Choice if We Listen To the Duopoly’

Steven Hayes, then at Fox News and the Weakly Standard (not a typo) Donald Trump Is Crazy, and So Is the GOP for Embracing Him

Reason “Binary Choices” Like Trump or Clinton Are So 20th Century

The argument resurfaced at the publication directed by Charlie Three Wives the Moral Avenger, that would be The Bulwark, this past April. Here is Jonathan Last arguing that here is no binary choice Down With the ‘Binary Choice’ Nonsense. In it Last argues that the choice isn’t binary because you are voting on the future.

The reason I ask these questions is to make a point about the “binary choice” trope.

It drives me crazy when people say that an election is a “binary choice.”

When people trot out the binary choice, they’re trying to reduce the election to two defined choices whose outcomes are totally understood. They want to pretend that you know exactly what outcome you’re getting with either choice and that the outcomes stop the minute the choice is made.

In truth, an election is a choice of timelines, not people or ideologies.

And those timelines are unknowable and uncertain. They’re contingent. They stretch out into the future.

Parts of these future timelines are reasonably foreseeable: You could reasonably predict that a Clinton victory in 2016 still would have been accompanied by a Republican congressional majority. And from that you could reasonably predict that Clinton would have been a constrained chief executive.

Other parts of these timelines stretch over the horizon.

This strikes me as gibberish. If I’m in a burning car I have two choices, stay or go. It doesn’t matter that I stay because I have two toddlers in the backseat that I have to unbuckle and toss out of the car and I willingly sacrifice my life or if I’m a Bulwark staff writer on the way to work and I don’t have the ability to make a decision about what is the best form of virtue signaling. Either way I’m dead. If leave, it doesn’t matter if I run to get the fire department or stroll off to the nearest tavern to have a celebratory drink. I’m alive. In fact, the whole Flight 93 Election essay was premised on the idea that we don’t know what will happen under Trump.

2016 is the Flight 93 election: charge the cockpit or you die. You may die anyway. You—or the leader of your party—may make it into the cockpit and not know how to fly or land the plane. There are no guarantees.

Now, with Trump appearing to be the favorite in 2020, suddenly the Bulwark gang is rediscovering the binary election. This is from noted expert on all things expert-able, Tom Nichols.

A binary election, thanks to Trump.

This election is, like every other election for president, binary. It doesn’t matter what you do, the outcome is binary. You can decide that you don’t want to participate in that election, either by staying hope or a protest vote, but that doesn’t change the nature of the contest. There are only two people on the ballot with a chance to be president. You not voting for one of them only means that give up your vote for president.
