MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough Decides to Melt Down Because Democrats Are Left-Wing

Westlake Legal Group trump-scarborough-620x413 MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough Decides to Melt Down Because Democrats Are Left-Wing woke twitter Too Left-Wing Rant Politics Morning Joe Meltdown Liberals left-wing Joe Scarborough funny Front Page Stories Front Page Featured Story donald trump democrats Democats

Last weekend, I wrote a piece about two articles penned by Bret Stephens and David Brooks. In them, they both lament the fact that the Democrat party has moved so far to the left, with the main concern being that Donald Trump might win again if it continues.

Stephens’ actual article was quite good in a vacuum as a critique of the Democratic party, but the timing and who the complaints were coming from all seemed a bit self-serving. Now, your concerned about these things? The very things other Republicans figured out years ago? The Democrat party has been moving hard left for over a decade now. That’s what many on the right had on their minds when they pulled the lever for President Trump back in 2016.

We are also talking about writers who endorsed electing Democrats in 2018. Less than a year ago, they were telling everyone to put Nancy Pelosi in as speaker but now I’m supposed to listen to their worries about the Democrat party’s continued march left? There’s no credibility left there.

Stephens and Brooks aren’t the only ones who’ve suddenly discovered Democrats are crazy though.

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough had quite the meltdown yesterday on Twitter.

You don’t say?

Predictably, liberals didn’t take too kindly to him trying to tell them what to do, so Scarborough kept tweeting.

Would you walk into a Chinese restaurant and complain they aren’t serving spaghetti? Scarborough apparently would.

The Democrat party being left-wing is not new. It’s not unforeseen. Nancy Pelosi wasn’t a moderate three years ago. I find all these complaints to be a bit ridiculous. If he wanted a party that doesn’t endorse those things, he probably shouldn’t have went so over the top so as to put all his chips on a political party that supports abortion until birth and open borders. Just a thought.

There’s a certain delusion that comes with Scarborough’s position. It’s one thing to be anti-Trump and sit at home. Arguments can be made over what is actually being helped or hurt at that point, but abstaining can at least be defended as a principled position. Being so triggered by Trump that you’d support socialists and crazed inter-sectionalists can’t be defended by any appeal to principle. And whether Scarborough likes it or not, that’s exactly what he’s supporting.

Scarborough chose his new friends. He could have remained somewhere in the undefined middle and not become so rabid over all this (his moral preening over Trump is especially rich since he just recently left his wife and kids for his co-host). He chose not to and instead went full full bore to elect Democrats. Now, he gets to live with the consequences of that. Liberals are not going to change who they are because Morning Joe isn’t happy with their platform.

Nielsen Media Research has released cable news viewership data for the second quarter of 2019 and Fox News is looking good.

Considering all of the criticism directed at Fox News by the mainstream media, the network has managed to attract more viewers than either MSNBC or CNN for the 70th straight quarter in both the daytime and primetime (8-11 pm EST) categories.

According to Nielsen Media Research, in the primetime category, Fox dominated with an average of 2.4 million viewers, followed by MSNBC with 1.7 million. In the number three spot was TNT, and fourth and fifth place went to ESPN and HGTV, respectively.

CNN averaged only 761,000 viewers, less than 32% of Fox’ audience.

In the daytime category, Fox was in first place with an average of 1.3 million viewers. This was the 12th consecutive quarter in which Fox has achieved the number one spot. Number two was MSNBC with 900,000. HGTV, Nickelodeon and Investigation Discovery came next. CNN wound up in eighth place with 525,000, approximately 40% of Fox’ viewership.

“Hannity” remained the “most-watched” show on cable with an average of 3.2 million viewers.

Second place went to “Tucker Carlson Tonight” with 2.8 million. “Maddow” came in third with 2.5 million. (I’m surprised she had so many viewers.) Fourth and fifth place went to “The Ingraham Angle” and “The Five.”

CNN’s most watched program was “Cuomo Prime Time,” with an average of 910,000 viewers, which finished at #25. Fox reports that 14 of their network’s programs and 10 of MSNBC’s, were ahead of CNN’s #1 program.

“Hannity “also prevailed in the key demo category, averaging 505,000, which includes viewers between the ages of 25 and 54. Next was “Maddow” with 396,000. “Fox News had eight of the 10 most-watched shows in the demo, while CNN didn’t have any programs among the top ten. In fact, CNN’s “Cuomo Prime Time” had its lowest-rated quarter ever in both categories.”

For over eleven years, Fox News has remained the most-watched cable network in the primetime demo.

“Fox & Friends” has been the most-watched cable news morning show for over seventeen years. And “The Greg Gutfeld Show” beat CNN and MSNBC combined in its timeslot.”

Now, what was that they were saying about Fox News?

Trump Administration Folds on the Issue of Counting US Citizens In the 2020 Census

Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross appears before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform to discuss preparing for the 2020 Census, on Capitol Hill in Washington, Thursday, Oct. 12, 2017. The Trump administration acknowledged on Thursday that billions more dollars are “urgently needed” to ensure a fair and accurate count during the 2020 Census. (AP Photo/J. Scott Applewhite)

It seems like every week marks another controversy involving the left using lawfare to advance its goal of turning this nation into the proverbial Third World sh** hole and the Administration trying to keep that from happening. The Administration has chalked up some wins but last week it lost a major one.

One of the goals of the Administration had been to ensure the US decennial census enumerated the number of US citizens rather than the number of warmish bodies of uncertain provenance. The Census would have counted everyone, but it would have identified who was eligible to vote and who wouldn’t. There is nothing nefarious about this. The UN’s agency that advises nations on how do conduct censuses recommends that citizenship be a question. Up until 1960, citizenship was a standard question. The left didn’t like that idea at all because of two factors, one real and one illusory. The illusory reason was that illegal aliens would not fill out the Census forms because of fear of being deported or some such bullsh**. Think about that for a moment. People who entered the country illegally and who are more likely than not engaged in identity theft in order to get documents that allow them to work–or who work for cash and don’t pay taxes–would quail at the thought of lying on a Census form about their citizenship. Does that make sense to you? Didn’t think so.

The real reason is that rolling non-citizens into redistricting numbers is a clear violation of the Equal Protection clause. A district composed of 50% illegals gives greater weight to the votes of the citizens in that district than to that of a district that is 100% citizen. Basing congressional seats on having a bazillion illegals disadvantages states which have a low number of illegals.

The administration added the question to the Census…and they did it according to the old Army maxim of “if you want it bad, you get it bad.” The process by which the citizenship question was added as so half-assed and ad hoc that it was difficult to construct any kind of defense for why it was included. In fact, the Supreme Court plurality last week ruled that the Administration had the authority to add the question but their justification was a pretext. They were told to come up with a better reason if they wanted to add the question. This, quite simply, was an own goal. It was a decision that was either the result of someone being too cute by half or of deliberate sabotage of the decision.

Yesterday, the Administration made noises like it would persist in trying to add the question but it was really up against a pretty tight time window if the results were to be collected by the end of 2020. Just a few hours ago, the Administration bowed to the inevitable and pulled the citizenship question.

Make no mistake about it. This is a huge loss and sets back the cause of protecting the right to vote and ensuring that Congress represents citizens and not flocks of illegals. The Administration can gripe about courts and the left all they want, but the bottom line here is that they screwed the pooch by engaging in a haphazard process that they knew, or should have known, was going to end up in hostile courts. They have no one to blame but themselves.

In Celebration of July 4th, The New York Times Prints a Completely On Brand Hot Take About America

Westlake Legal Group AP_080722043710-620x306 In Celebration of July 4th, The New York Times Prints a Completely On Brand Hot Take About America Ungrateful trash The New York Times Stacey Abrams Politics misleading Infant Mortality Front Page Stories Front Page Fourth of July Featured Story False dumpster fire democrats delusion Cuba anti-American

The New York Times never disappoints when it comes to publishing anti-American tripe and they served up something special for this Fourth of July.

In the buildup to Independence Day, a holiday the country used to be able to largely celebrate without controversy, the Times decided it was a good idea to give space to this piece.

This is truly the most on-brand thing the Times has ever done.

I mean, the United States has only helped lift billions of people out of poverty, won two world wars, and led medical advancements that have saved literally millions of lives around the globe. Well, that and formulating most of the major technological breakthroughs of the last century, which again has helped billions of people. Clearly those are the accomplishments of a country that’s just average though according to the Times.

So where does this article get it’s idiotic take from? Why, “studies” of course. Here’s the Washington Examiner with an explainer of what’s so wrong about the video.

Referencing the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, Raza and Jensen offer a graphic which says the U.S. has the “highest poverty rate.” One problem? The OECD’s own statistics show America does not have the highest poverty rate of member nations. Oops. But there’s another issue here: The OECD applies a relative poverty measurement to reach its conclusions. It relies on assessments of equality of wealth; the relative poverty rate prejudices nations such as America that have a lot of wealthy residents.

They are using a study that uses relative measures of poverty and inequality. The problem with that is that’s it’s an incredibly stupid metric. If you have $1000 and I have $100000, you are still richer than the guy in Honduras with $20 while his wealthy neighbor has $100. These are the kinds of stupid games we see played in the intellectual sphere to try to paint the U.S. as anything other than what it actually is, which is the most economically prosperous and opportunity rich country in the world.

The video also goes to the tired “infant mortality” trope. In reality, records are not kept uniformly, with many countries not counting certain deaths that we count. Only an absolute moron could possibly believe the United States simultaneously leads all of human history in medical innovation but that we can’t birth children as safely as Cuba. Yet, you have mainstream liberals who will make that argument.

But things get even dumber.

“It’s gotten to a point where I think there are specific times and places where you can confuse America for a developing country,” the narrator said, “as elections are tampered with, water can’t be drunk from taps, citizens don’t trust uniformed officers, infrastructure is crumbling, and where a dual system is emerging when public services are available to the highest bidder.”

If you look at the United States and confuse it with a developing nation, you’ve never actually been to any developing nations. Most of what’s listed there is just patently false and nothing but left-wing propaganda.

On the subject of elections being “tampered with” though, guess who they flashed on the screen?

Yes, we are still doing this. Stacey Abrams, who lost by over 50,000 votes despite there being zero evidence of voter suppression (black turnout actually exceeded historical norms), is still being bandied about by the Times as a victim who had the election stolen from her. They are never going to stop are they

I’ll say this. The United States is not perfect. The same is true for every other country in the history of humanity. That does not negate that we are still the greatest country on earth. No country has done more to help more people than the United States. Whether we are talking directly, technologically, financially, or even philosophically. It shouldn’t be controversial to say that but we’ve reached a level of such insanity in our politics that it’s now politically expedient for some to denigrate the country that’s given them so much.

Keep in mind, this is the same newspaper that did an entire series about how great life was in the Soviet Union. But when it comes to the United States, we are presented as a hell hole and you better not think otherwise.

Here’s the million dollar question. If the United States is not the greatest nation on earth, who is? Of course, you’ll never get an answer to that question because then the Times would have to actually defend that position and it wouldn’t go well for them. Easier to just crap on the United States via a bunch of vague liberal talking points and run away.

Noted Hat Fetishist Rep. Frederica Wilson Goes on Bizarre Rant, Calls to Jail People Who Make Fun of Congress

Westlake Legal Group 68e2e820-3ec8-4e6c-8179-cf5adaa06611-620x357 Noted Hat Fetishist Rep. Frederica Wilson Goes on Bizarre Rant, Calls to Jail People Who Make Fun of Congress Tech Companies scary prosecution Politics Jailing Internet Illiberal Front Page Stories Front Page Free Speech Frederica Wilson Featured Story democrats dangerous Crazy Congress

I’m under no illusions that the elected officials in Congress are collectively brilliant. Anyone that’s listened to Eric Swalwell or Maxine Waters riff on anything is probably pretty numb to it all. Even still, there are days when one of them says something so ridiculously dumb that it makes you double take.

Enter Frederica Wilson, noted hat connoisseur and crazy person. Last we heard from her, she was spreading the contents of a private phone call to a dead soldier’s widow to take political shots at the President. After she was criticized for her antics, Wilson would go on to attack Gen. John Kelly (who lost his son in Afghanistan) as a man with no honor. Once all that died down, Wilson sunk back into the obscurity she’s known for most of her regrettable career in Washington.

Today, she made her comeback.

“Those people who are online making fun of members of Congress are a disgrace and there is no need for anyone to think that is unacceptable,” Wilson said during a press conference. “We are going to shut them down and work with whoever it is to shut them down, and they should be prosecuted.”

What the heck did I just watch?

That’s one of the most bizarre rants I’ve witnessed in politics, and I don’t just mean her inability to speak complete sentences with proper word usage. A sitting U.S. Congressional member is calling for the prosecution of people who…make fun of Congress online. Could Wilson help us all out by citing the criminal statute she’s referencing? I’ve made fun of Frederica’s ugly hat fetish before. Should I be looking for black helicopters out my window?

I’m not who she’s referencing when she says we’ll “work with whoever” to shut down free speech on the internet, but I’d assume she’s talking about the tech companies.

Hearing someone in a position of power make statements like this would be scary if Wilson wasn’t such a joke. I’m going to sleep soundly tonight knowing she can’t actually do the lunacy she espoused in her speech. What it does show though is a streak of illiberalism that’s readily apparent in the Democrat party. This isn’t actually something new, they are just more emboldened these days to say the bad parts out loud. There’s no accountability anymore for the left. Not only does anything go, anything will be propped up and reinforced.

Had a Republican said something like this, it would be big news and it would be justified in being so. No elected official should be calling for the prosecution of free speech, much less targeting people for joking on the internet. Just as concerning, no politician should be calling to collude with others in positions of power to “shut them down” just because people say something you don’t like.

Despite the bluster we constantly hear about Donald Trump, the real threats to the first amendment consistently show themselves on the left. Will the brave heroes in our fabled news industry take notice of this latest example and condemn it? Nah.

2019 as ‘1984’: Charlottesville Dumps All Celebrations of Thomas Jefferson’s Birthday

Westlake Legal Group Big-Government-Jefferson-Quote 2019 as ‘1984’: Charlottesville Dumps All Celebrations of Thomas Jefferson’s Birthday Thomas Jefferson Front Page Stories Featured Story Culture charlottesville birthday abolition 1984

America continues it’s short, rapid march towards becoming 1984′s Oceania. The AP news service is reporting that  the Charlottesville city council has voted to drop all celebrations of Thomas Jefferson’s birthday. Instead they will replace it with an observation of abolition and emancipation.

Charlottesville, Virginia, will no longer celebrate Thomas Jefferson’s birthday as an official city holiday and instead will observe a day recognizing the emancipation of enslaved African-Americans.

The city council voted Monday night to scrap the decades-old April 13 holiday honoring the slave-holding president and Founding Father. Charlottesville will now mark Liberation and Freedom Day on March 3, the day U.S. Army forces arrived in the city in 1865.

Charlottesville has been grappling publicly for years with how to tell its history of race and discrimination. Those efforts intensified after white nationalists gathered in the city in 2017 for a rally that descended into deadly violence.

Charlottesville was ground zero for a brutal clash over civil war era statues and their removals from public properties.

Much like our nation in general, Thomas Jefferson’s history is complicated and nuanced. Also like our nation in general his legacy is both bitter and sweet. Regardless of the challenges of recognizing such a figure in our history, Jefferson’s contributions to the prosperity we all now enjoy cannot be measured. To erase that history is to erase our future.

But maybe that’s the point.

As Red State‘s Sarah Lee wrote yesterday, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) called on the feds Sunday to “investigate & bring legal action against” Portland, OR Mayor Ted Wheeler (D) in the aftermath of this past weekend’s violent attack on independent journalist Andy Ngo.

Cruz alleges that “for political reasons, [Wheeler] ordered his police officers to let citizens be attacked by domestic terrorists” and should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Seemingly oblivious to Cruz’s call for legal action against him, Wheeler logged on to the Twitter machine Monday afternoon to give himself credit for seemingly being on top of the situation, and pledging that “those who have committed violence” will be “held accountable.”

Later, once Wheeler got wind of Cruz’s demand for an investigation, the embattled Mayor attempted to one-up the Texas Senator by asserting that he did not order any officers to stand down:

As of this writing, Wheeler’s tweet has been severely ratioed, but that ratio is nothing compared to the blistering response he received from Sen. Cruz:

Wheeler can deny he ordered a stand down all he wants, but Portland Police Association President Daryl Turner issued a statement in the aftermath of Saturday’s violence that would seem to back up Cruz’s version of events (bolded emphasis added):

It doesn’t matter if our citizens are democrats or republicans; no one should be attacked in the streets of our city. Good leadership means taking the reins and stepping forward to let people know when there is wrongdoing. The law is applicable no matter which side you’re on.

Where are the voices condemning the lawlessness and violence? If this violence had been directed at Antifa, there would have been an immediate call for an independent, outside investigation. This is a perfect example of Portland politics at work and why our great City is now under fire in the national news.

The Mayor, our Police Commissioner, is not allowed to use the rank and file officers of the Portland Police Bureau as a shield to deflect Portland’s negative press nationwide. As we have said before and will continue to say: Police officers work to uphold the Constitution, including the right to free speech. It’s our job to ensure that our community can peacefully protest without fear of violence but right now our hands are tied.

It’s time for our Mayor to do two things: tell both ANTIFA and Proud Boys that our City will not accept violence in our City and remove the handcuffs from our officers and let them stop the violence through strong and swift enforcement action. Enough is enough.

Ngo, who was severely injured in the attack and hospitalized, said on CNN today that there have been “many other [similar] incidents that have happened since 2016 and the policing has remained the same, which is a policy of not engaging with militant protestors.”

Sen. Marsha Blackburn: ‘Nike and Colin Kaepernick Should Understand Who Defends Our Flag’

Westlake Legal Group US-flag-Florida-Bridge-620x427 Sen. Marsha Blackburn: ‘Nike and Colin Kaepernick Should Understand Who Defends Our Flag’ Sen. Marsha Blackburn Rush Limbaugh Patriotism nike Front Page Stories Featured Story colin kaepernick anti-American Allow Media Exception

By now, most of us have heard the news that Nike cancelled the rollout of their new “Betsy Ross” flag themed sneaker following a complaint from Colin Kaepernick. The former NFL player, famous for kneeling in protest during the national anthem, told top Nike officials the flag was “an offensive symbol because of its connection to an era of slavery.” My colleague, Sarah Rumpf, posted about this story here.

Nike and Kaepernick are free to do whatever they choose, no matter how anti-American it appears. But I find it incredibly sad that so many on the left are willing to put this country down. They want to erase history. They have no appreciation for their freedom let alone those who fought for it. Nike and Kaepernick have no gratitude for the country that allowed them to succeed as they could have in very few other places. Nor do they even try to hide their contempt for it.

Rush Limbaugh discussed this story on his radio show earlier and made the following disturbing, but accurate, observation. “It used to be said of the two political parties that we all want what’s best for America. That can’t be said anymore.”

Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) shared her feelings in an op-ed which was published earlier on Breitbart.

Here is what Sen. Blackburn had to say:

Well, who would ever have thought that a spoiled brat football player would have a problem with an American flag that was first made by one of our founding mothers in 1776?

Sounds like someone needs a little flag education on what that symbol of freedom actually stands for to millions of people, not only in America, but also around the globe. It is time for the self-absorbed to understand a little bit about who continues to defend that freedom and protect their free speech so that they can say such inane things and continue to make millions of dollars. It happens because Americans are free to choose.

What the self-absorbed need to understand is that we are “free to choose” because over one million Americans who serve in the U.S. military have raised their hands and taken an oath to serve this nation and to protect our freedom. That’s right, they raised their hands, took an oath to protect and defend, and they did not have a highly paid agent negotiating a bloated contract that would put millions of dollars in their pocket. They chose to put their lives on the line because they are called to serve and protect our freedom. The self-absorbed also need to realize that they are protected by the local law enforcement—that’s right, the thin blue line between chaos and calm.

Those who complain about an American flag being on a pair of shoes could not fight like a soldier if they had to. If they had the guts to put on camo–not the beautiful bright colors of a sports uniform–they would hit the battlefield instead of the playing field. On the battlefield, the soldiers are protectors, not the protected. Those who are complaining about this don’t have the mental toughness of someone who wears a military or police uniform. They should trade for a few days and see how it feels. A soldier has no one to carry his gear or work out that pain in his back or the muscle spasm in his leg. They tough it out.

I might not agree with much of what this spoiled brat football player has to say, but I will defend his right to say it because I believe in free speech. I will support our military because I believe in the cause of freedom, free people, and free markets. I will back the blue because they keep our communities safe.

To Nike, there are millions of us who would really like to wear a Betsy Ross running shoe and celebrate what women have done for freedom and freedom’s cause—there is such a thing as founding mothers. Why don’t you choose to honor them? None of us would be here without their contributions to this nation. Get the shoe back on the market.

To the self-absorbed, learn to show a little tolerance and a little respect. Grow up. You are not the center of the universe.

As for me, I will always stand for the flag. I will always support our troops. I will always celebrate being American.

10 Ways to Make a Trump Voter

Andy Ngo Assaulted By Antifa from Harmeet Dhillon on Vimeo.

The 2016 elections made a lot of people look very differently at presidential elections.

But not enough.

President Trump has gone on to not just change the game but change the field, the refs and the audience. The progressive Left has gone back to their old playbook, unaware that their stadium isn’t even half full anymore.

Instead of winning back regretful voters, the Democrats and their allies seem to be – almost unbelievably – creating more Trump voters for 2020.

So, in case the Democrat party needs more help adding new pages to that old playbook, here is a list of 10 surefire ways to create a new Trump voter in 2020.

1.Complain about how trump will never concede the election then when he wins refuse to concede the election. Then unironically complain for the next four years that if Trump wins again he will never concede the election.

2.Run with poorly sourced or downright false stories about the President that give people on the fence about Trump a reason to feel confident in disliking him. Then be forced to retract those stories one after another after another until no one believes anything you report on anymore. Push the fence-riders into a begrudging acceptance that perhaps Trump is right about “fake news” and that might mean he’s right about some other things too.

3.Take an immature, dim but proud socialist child and an anti-semite who is possibly an Islamist and refers to the most terrifying attack on American soil in modern times as an event where “some people did some things”  and make them the faces of your party. Assure people that this is the future of the American Left. Make those skeptical of Trump even more skeptical of where the Democrat party is leading the country. Force people to choose between the “We Hate America Wonder Twins” and actual America.

4.Ruin every single great tv show and film with commentary on how awful Trump is and how horrible his voters are and how they are despised. Forget that over half the people you are talking about are your customers. Remind them repeatedly that your tolerance will never extend to them.

5.Dig into the past of every person who gains some kind of popularity. Dig up years-old tweets, high school emails, letters to grandmothers, drunk texts and comedy routines from 1995. Demand an apology and then tell people their apologies will never be enough. Destroy lives and careers forever and then laugh and laugh as you put your pitchforks away for another night. Never think that you’ll be the receiving end of those pitchforks one day.

6.Call black people and women brainwashed race/gender traitors for supporting Trump. Never ask for their genuine thoughts and opinions. Don’t treat them like people. Speak scorn and derision for them out of one side of your mouth while simultaneously preaching about being an ally to women and minorities out to the other side. There’s nothing like an over-confident hypocrite to drive people away from an ideology or group. Just ask anyone who’s ever left the Christian church.

7.Refuse to acknowledge that life in the big city is significantly different than life in flyover country. Keep looking down your nose at people who grow your food and deliver your oil. Tell them they need to accept that coastal sensibilities are American sensibilities. Push them to vote for Trump just to spite your snobby ass.

8.Make colleges and universities a tightly controlled bubble where no competing ideas are allowed to be heard, let alone suggested. Drive out centrist and conservative speakers with physical force. Get in their faces, spit on them, throw water and milkshakes, act like uncontrollable infants and then turn on your own brethren when they dare suggest that such acts are indeed childish and unpersuasive. Watch the college system fold in on itself as it collapses under the weight of its own ideological cowardice.

9.Make one of the most prominent legs of your platform a bizarre and unbending devotion to allowing babies to be killed right up until the very moment before they leave the birth canal. Justify it in the name of health. Ridicule people who feel even a little bit odd about taking such a hardline stance on infanticide. Make their votes a binary choice between literal baby-murder and Donald Trump.

10.Call everyone who disagrees with you a Nazi. All the time. Always. Compare Trump to a man who murdered 6 million Jews and fly giant Trump-baby balloons whenever he visits. Never stop being overdramatic lunatics. Continue to make people feel uncomfortable in watering down the Holocaust, slavery and racism. Abuse the terms constantly. Make Americans numb to your rhetoric.

Follow these steps and you will surely guarantee another Trump victory in 2020. You’re off to a good start!

Doug Ducey Comes Under Ridiculous Criticism for Pulling the Plug on Nike’s Corporate Welfare

FILE – In this June 20, 2018, file photo, Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey, R, speaks at a campaign rally in Tempe, Ariz. Arizona has developed a reputation over the past decade for being one of the country’s greatest political flashpoints, with divisive debates over of immigration, rambunctious populists and a divided GOP. But the Arizona politician who’s had the most consequential decision this past week is Ducey, a buttoned-down ice cream executive who managed to put his stamp on the U.S. Senate. Ducey, the onetime chief executive officer of Cold Stone Creamery, on Tuesday, Sept. 4 named former senator Jon Kyl to fill the seat vacated by the late John McCain. (AP Photo/Matt York, File)

There is sort of a war going on within conservatism over how conservatives should approach the current political climate. This conflict is best demonstrated in the debate that features New York Post op-ed editor Sohrab Ahmari on the side of social/traditional conservatives and National Review’s resident bearded scold (to distinguish him from the plethora of unbeared ones plaguing us today) David French. It all started out in a First Things essay titled Against the Dead Consensus:

Yes, the old conservative consensus paid lip service to traditional values. But it failed to retard, much less reverse, the eclipse of permanent truths, family stability, communal solidarity, and much else. It surrendered to the pornographization of daily life, to the culture of death, to the cult of competitiveness. It too often bowed to a poisonous and censorious multiculturalism.

The essence of the argument is that Sobhani and others like Rod Dreher argue that in the absence of a shared vision of what America is about…and this boils down, in large part, to the destruction of religion and the family (I won’t say “traditional” because that goes without saying)…that tolerance leads to traditional values being treated as hate crimes. French and the Bulwark boys and various pudgy guys at other allegedly center-right outlets claim that if we only talk and explain our point odf view to the left, they won’t kill us just yet. Read this Vox.com essay, yes, I said it, for a very good overview. In this argument, I’m 100% with Sobhani, I might even think he’s a bit on the soft side. I’m much more of a Kurt Schlichter #NewRules believer. In reality, I think the argument is more economic than philosophical. When guys like French and like The Bulwark and like…well, let’s just leave it there…make the argument for dialog and tolerance what they are looking at is using the force of the left’s natural intolerance to put other outlets out of business. Their sucking up to the left is less a reaction of making tolerance a fetish than it is a craven response to the rejection of their ideas by people on the right and wanting to destroy competitors. This, in my view, does a better job of explaining the supine indifference of guys like French to the existential danger that social media acting as a self-appointed censor and arbiter of acceptable speech than does any fealty to the First Amendment. By being submissive and obsequious to the left you never offend them and are in no danger of being blocked or banned from a social medial platform. That, however, is a post for a different day.

To get back on track here, Nike had a sneaker in the works featuring the “Betsy Ross” flag. Colin Kaepernick, who tried to play pro-football and now grifts of anti-American sentiment for a living, vetoed the idea. And Nike pulled the sneaker. Nike had some kind of a deal to move whatever portion of their company that doesn’t involve Cambodian toddlers working in sweatshops to Arizona in exchange for financial incentives. Governor Doug Ducey, demonstrating why he won reelection by 14 points while Martha McSally lost by three, ordered the Arizona Commerce Authority to pull the incentives.

Quite honestly, I think Ducey is a freakin hero for doing this. But, the Vichy Republicans had a sad. According to them, government is obligated to support companies whose values and beliefs are out of step with those of the citizenry by giving them money.Case in point is this blue checkmark guy who bills himself as:

Christian, husband, dadx3. Senior Fellow, Free Speech and Toleration – Charles Koch Institute. Radical Frenchist.

“Radical Frenchist.”

On its merits, this is nonsense. Nike has no property interest in or constitutional right to financial incentives from the State of Arizona that are not granted to other corporations. Ducey has every right to decide that he doesn’t want a craven, anti-American, and exploitative company like Nike to be given money to bring its values to Arizona. The comparison to Chick-Fil-A is so grotesque that if one had any sense of shame they wouldn’t make it. Ducey is not saying Nike can’t come to Arizona, he’s saying he won’t rob Arizona taxpayers to make that happen. The Chick-Fil-A cases involve a government banning a particular business franchise from its geographical limits because the government doesn’t like the beliefs of the corporate officers.

There may be a case somewhere that says that a state has to give financial incentives to companies, but that is not an Arizona law. If Nike wants to go to court to enforce this agreement, they have lawyers who can do that. And Arizona has labor and building inspectors.

The fact that these people can’t even support a conservative governor making a righteous decision is a lesson for 2020. These people are not our friends. They are not our allies. They are more interesting in getting the approval of the left than they are in “conserving conservatism” or preserving liberty. These people have surrendered to the left on everything of importance and their only remaining value is to get you to surrender, too.
