Reddit Ignores Calls for Violence On Left-Leaning Subreddits Despite Censoring Pro-Trump Subreddit

Westlake Legal Group conservatives-silenced-620x326 Reddit Ignores Calls for Violence On Left-Leaning Subreddits Despite Censoring Pro-Trump Subreddit Violence threats subreddit Social Media Reddit r/the_donald Politics Internet Front Page Stories Featured Story donald trump Censorship Allow Media Exception

Reddit recently gagged the subreddit r/The_Donald with a “quarantine” that essentially makes the subreddit invisible unless you go searching directly for it. When you do, it asks you if you want to see the content within, giving you the impression that it’s dangerous.

It’s not.

The subreddit is a pro-Trump room that, as its defenders describe it in an article by Cullen McCue at Reality Circuit, is a pro-Trump, pro-law enforcement community within Reddit. It’s also a very large community that is heavily policed by its own moderators. However, from time to time, bad characters are going to pop up. Typically, any calls for violence or overt shows of racism are removed from the subreddit with the commenter banned.

However, because it’s a pro-Trump subreddit, it’s been the target of multiple left-leaning groups:

Like any online community, r/the_donald is subject to any number of characters. You’ve got trolls, people who never leave the internet and full on radicals. Sure you can ban their accounts/remove comments – as r/the_donald has always done – but there will still be out of bounds content that seeps through the cracks. Any reasonable person can understand this, but there are agendas at play here.

R/the_donald has long been a target of Reddit. Subs like r/againsthatesubreddits – Reddit’s version of Media Matters – have long had the sub in their cross-hairs. Reddit is also an overwhelmingly left-leaning site as a whole, so TD has always been under increased scrutiny.

Interestingly, as McCue points out, far left subreddits are typically left well alone, and even members from groups like Antifa have a subreddit where they congregate, and calls for violence are often ignored:

Since Reddit is overwhelmingly left-wing (and a recipient of Chinese investment), far left subreddits are undisturbed. R/ChapoTrapHouse is the home of every edgy socialist you’ve ever met. Ya know that kid you vaguely remember from high school who posts Antifa tier shit on Facebook to the point where you unfriend him, but is a skin and bones pussy when you run into him at the grocery store? This subreddit is where they all congregate.

Chapo is filled with calls to violence, edgelord reactions to the suffering of their political opponents and just overall scumbaggotry. R/LateStageCapitalism is more of the same and supposedly “neutral subs” like r/politics are only populated by the most radical of leftists. Calls to violence (not removed and with up-votes) have been well documented there, in r/news, r/pics and other subs.

McCue then gave a massive list of threats and calls for violence. Here are some of the highlights.

  • r/LateStageCapitalism MOD announcement – “No one can reasonably argue that the Republican congressmen shot today didn’t deserve it. They absolutely did. They created this situation of unparalleled division. They’re trying to destroy society to line their own pockets.”
  • r/politics “Let’s put arsenic in drinks and slip it to Trump supporters”
  • [Regarding Republicans] “What else can be done?”  “Going to the homes of Republican lawmakers in the middle of the night  dragging them into the street and turning them into tree ornaments [Lynching].” [+37]
  • “We’re getting to the point that it’s past the need for protest  but time for violent and extreme actions. The government needs to be reminded that is has a reason to be afraid of us.”
  • r/anarchism praising the stabbing of a Trump supporter just for being white

There’s plenty more than that.

Reddit is filthy with left-leaning conspiracy theories and calls for radicalism, yet these often go untouched because no one is really looking into them as they are right-leaning or pro-Trump subreddits.

More importantly, they see that pro-Trump subreddits are perfect distribution centers of information that runs contrary to leftist and mainstream narratives. Silicon Valley’s recent drive to harness the flow of information to make it harder to counteract the lies is what made the r/The-Donald subreddit a quarantine zone, not any kind of violent rhetoric.

In case you haven’t heard, Americans in favor of brown people being immigrants — that is, coming into the land of the free and home of the brave via its immigration system — are anti-brown-people-immigrants.

I haven’t quite been able to make sense of it yet, but that’s the word on the street.

And AOC’s chief of staff — Saikat Chakrabarti — is apparently no stranger to the street.

Therefore:

The tweet was in reference to H.R.3401 — the Emergency Supplemental Appropriations for Humanitarian Assistance and Security at the Southern Border Act. It “provides $4.5 billion in FY2019 emergency supplemental appropriations to federal departments and agencies for humanitarian assistance and security to respond to migrants attempting to enter the United States at the southern border.”

After deleting his post, Saikat tried to clarify:

It’s as if someone “kidnapped a bunch of children”??

Next, “concentration camps” (here, here, and here):

Saikat uses the word “immigrants” here, but he clearly has no intention to mean immigrants (as described at the beginning of this article):

If you’re into border laws, you’re like the KKK:

Jimmy Carter Says Trump ‘Didn’t Actually Win the Election’

Earlier today, former President Jimmy Carter called President Donald Trump an “illegitimate” president who “didn’t actually win the election in 2016.”

Carter made the comments at a Carter Center conference in Virginia. USA Today’s Susan Page was the first to report about it, posting several tweets detailing remarks made at the conference. Carter’s Vice President, Walter Mondale, also spoke at the conference and accused Trump of showing “symptoms of psychological problems.”

A transcript of Carter’s comments, via Mediate:

“I think the interference, though not yet quantified, should be fully investigated and would show that Trump didn’t actually win the election in 2016, he lost the election,” Carter said.

“He was put into office because the Russians interfered,” he said. Carter was then asked if that meant he believed Trump was illegitimate.

“Based on what I said, which I can’t retract,” Carter responded, prompting laughter from the audience.

Video of the conference is also posted at C-SPAN.

Americans have differing opinions about the scope and impact of Russian interference in the 2016 election, largely based on their partisan allegiances, but one thing that we do not have is evidence of Russians (or any other country, entity, or individual) hacking actual ballots or vote totals.

People cast ballots across the country in the 2016 presidential election, and more people in enough states voted for Trump over Hillary Clinton to give him more electoral votes. He “actually” did win the election. Therefore, Donald Trump is a “legitimate” president. This is not complicated.

There are plenty of reasons to be critical of Trump and prefer another candidate for president in 2020. Carter has the same free speech rights as the rest of us to voice such opinions and encourage Americans to vote against Trump next year. But peddling in these kinds of delusional conspiracy theories risks becoming a sad footnote on Carter’s final years of life.

The 94-year-old former peanut farmer had some notorious struggles and policy failures during his one term in the White House, but avoided personal scandals and is widely respected for his Christian faith and volunteer service, perhaps most notably for Habitat for Humanity.

Stick with building houses, Mr. President. Tin foil hats aren’t a good look for you.

Pants on Fire: Babylon Bee Cleverly Fact Checks Kamala Harris’s Democratic Debate “Food Fight” Claim

Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) speaks during the Democratic presidential debate – 6/27/19. Screen grab via NBC News.

Leave it to the Babylon Bee to be the voice of reason after two nights of tumultuous Democratic presidential debates.

During the early part of Thursday night’s debate in Miami, FL, several of the candidates started talking over each other – and the moderators couldn’t get control of the situation. That’s when Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) stepped in:

It was Sen. Kamala Harris’ turn to speak as the rhetoric was flying Thursday night at the second 2020 Democratic presidential debate.

As her fellow candidates shouted around her, the former California state attorney general smiled and raised her hands.

“Hey, guys, you know what? America does not want to witness a food fight. They want to know how we’re going to put food on their table,” Harris said to raucous cheers and applause.

Her parting of the debate waters in Miami came after an exchange between former Vice President Joe Biden and Rep. Eric Swalwell of California on old vs. new leadership within the Democratic Party — and other candidates had wanted in.

Watch video of the segment below:

In the aftermath of the debate, numerous fact checks were done by mainstream media news outlets about the candidates and their claims on various issues including border security, abortion, and the Green New Deal.

The Babylon Bee, however, zeroed in on probably the most disputed claim of the night: Was Harris telling the truth when she said Americans didn’t want to see a food fight break out?

As it turns out, she was wrong:

When polled, over 90% of Americans responded to the survey, “FOOD FIGHT! FOOD FIGHT! FOOD FIGHT!”

Many said that seeing the massive food battle royale between the many candidates would bring them much more joy than Kamala Harris putting food on their table.

In fact, it is also false that Americans want Kamala Harris putting food on their table at all.

Again, a vast majority of those surveyed responded that they were happy to put their own food on their own table, thank you very much, despite the detailed report from the Harris campaign that outlines a delicious “gruel cube” delivered weekly to every home [for] American families to gnaw on for seven days, providing all the needed nutrients, vitamins, and energy with much less waste.

I think in Politifact terms, Harris’s claim would come pretty close to being classified as a “pants on fire” lie.

Because of course most Americans wanted to see a food fight last night. Amirite?

In all seriousness, props to the Bee for catching something a lot of us didn’t: That Harris said “They want to know how we’re going to put food on their table” as if it’s the government’s responsibility to provide for all Americans.

Jon Voight isn’t afraid to speak his mind. And he certainly isn’t concerned with what Hollywood thinks.

For a fantastic example, look no further than his video declaring Donald Trump “the greatest president since Abraham Lincoln” (here).

Very, very bold move.

Actress Alyssa Milano’s made some bold moves, too.

Like:

  • Retaliating against someone telling women what they can do with their bodies by telling women they should not do things with their bodies (here)
  • Pining for a day when the American government will grant women the rights enshrined in the Constitution (here)
  • Proclaiming that men cannot be allowed to be equal to women (here)
  • Forgetting there are police (here)
  • Demanding that all women are right because some women have been right (here)
  • Coming within three steps of outlawing height (here)

And recently, television’s Samantha Micelli addressed Angelina Jolie’s dad and his praise of the President…with this:

The “F-lister,” in this case, has an Oscar.

On Friday’s Fox & Friends, Jon responded to the woman who co-host Brian Kilmeade called “that legend…who might be the best actress ever”:

“Darling Alyssa. God bless you. … I pray God sends his light of truth on all those with no truth about the Republicans and about our president. And may God bless America.”

Jon went on to note that he was part of the anti-war movement of the 60’s, and that he later found truth.

“I have sympathy for people that are in ignorance. It doesn’t scare me. Ignorance doesn’t scare me. I was like that myself. I just root for everybody to come to the truth.”

He also lamented the indoctrination of the young and impressionable in the ways of socialism:

“If they knew anything about the Second World War, they’d know that socialism is a disaster. It’s never produced anything anywhere in the world. It’s an economic sinkhole, but it also produces nothing but misery and violence.”

I think most would agree that “if they knew anything” is applicable to much of political raging these days. Hopefully, for some, “when they know” does, too.

Kamala Harris’ Attack on Joe Biden May Have Backfired

Westlake Legal Group 12c563de-9be4-4eea-a878-89cdc373b2a6-620x317 Kamala Harris’ Attack on Joe Biden May Have Backfired Yaas Queen WRONG racism pundits Politics MSNBC media bias kamala harris Joe Biden Front Page Stories Front Page Featured Story democrats Democrat primary Democrat Debates CNN Backfire attack 2020 election

There’s a reason why you should always be skeptical of conventional wisdom when it comes to elections.

Conventional wisdom said Trump should have been finished after almost every 2016 primary debate. It didn’t happen. There are many reasons for that, not the least of which is that what gets the juices flowing for beltway insiders may not appeal to normal people.

Is there another example of that dynamic beginning to play out?

Last night, Kamala Harris savaged Joe Biden on the topic of race in the first Democratic party debate. The consensus opinion wasn’t just that Biden lost the exchange, but that Harris had suddenly catapulted herself into the top tier of candidates. In fact, some of the better markets even have her as the front runner now.

With all due respect to the top oddsmakers, that’s incredibly stupid. Debates rarely have such an dramatic effect so as to boost someone languishing in the mid single digits above a guy who’s pushing 40%. In this case, it was a 2 minute exchange. Harris did not dominate the rest of the debate and actually may have alienated some voters by tacking so far left.

Harris, despite all the media fawning and selfies with Mika, is still a sucker’s bet at this point.

Here’s some evidence of that.

In other words, Harris hitting Biden seems to have had little effect on the key demographic it was designed to shift. In reality, it may have even backfired, as Biden saw a large bump in favor-ability after the debate last night.

The most obvious reason for this? Black Americans aren’t stupid enough to believe Joe Biden is actually a racist and they also don’t like it when the other candidates attack Barack Obama, which Harris did directly on the issue of immigration.

Biden was a loser last night, but it had almost nothing to do with Kamala Harris and everything to do with him embracing far-left ideas that will haunt him in the general.

This entire media reaction we’ve seen in the the aftermath of last night shows precisely why they are often so bad at their jobs. They think people are robotic, monolithic groups that can just be counted on to march to the beat of whatever the media demands. That’s not how it works. Rachel Maddow may be getting a thrill up her leg over Harris yelling at Biden, but normal people see it for what it is. Pointless bluster from an otherwise very unlikable politician.

Some may say it worked for Donald Trump in 2016, but that’d be completely misreading what actually happened (which many Trump critics are prone to do). Trump didn’t win because he called Rubio names, although his fighter mentality did help. He primarily won because he appealed to working class Americans. Harris doesn’t do that and it’s why Biden will likely continue to dominate her everywhere but within the studios of MSNBC.

Trump Was Right: He Can Strike Iran Without Congressional Approval

The debate over whether or not the president can retaliate should Iran strike U.S. interests in the Middle East will continue as the Senate defeated a measure to curb executive power Friday.

Trump has said he believes he can make the decision to retaliate against Iran without Congressional approval as Iran has rattled sabers by allegedly striking oil tankers located near the Strait of Hormuz and shooting down an American drone.

Sens. Tom Udall of New Mexico and Tim Kaine of Virginia, both Democrats, introduced the measure that would have prevented any funding for use in a strike against Iran without Congressional approval. That measure, which had the backing of a few Republicans such as Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky and Sen. Mike Lee of Utah, was defeated Friday in a vote that marked the longest in Senate history. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) held the vote open for the entire day “in order to accommodate the Senate Democrats running for president who are returning from the candidate debates in Miami.

The Senate measure was introduced after Trump abruptly abandoned plans to retaliate against Iran for shooting down an American drone in international airspace.

Trump later threatened Iran with “obliteration” if he attacked any American interest in the region.

Udall argued that Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Obama-era nuclear agreement with Iran and impose new sanctions has pushed the United States toward a war.

“Since this administration turned away from diplomacy and resorted to the maximum pressure campaign to box in Iran, the risk of war has steadily risen,” Udall said prior to the vote. “Just last week, we were 10 minutes away from a strike on Iran. Ten minutes from a nightmare of escalation in the Gulf,” said Udall.”

Trump said he believes retaliatory actions against Iran do not require congressional approval and most Republicans agree.

Had he measure passed, it would have been added to the 2020 defense spending authorization that passed Thursday.

Sens. Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) look on as Beto O’Rourke speaks Spanish at the Democratic presidential debate – 6/26/19. Screen grab via NBC News.

What do you get when you combine a photo of Sen. Cory Booker’s (D-NJ) now-infamous side-eye look with an image of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) visiting our southern border? A much needed laugh at the end of a brutally frustrating week.

As Red State‘s Elizabeth Vaughn wrote Thursday, one of the more humorous moments of the first Democratic debate Wednesday night was Booker giving Beto O’Rourke the side-eye as the former El Paso Congressman tried to answer a question in Spanish.

A brief recap, via The Hill:

Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) explained the side-eye look he gave when his fellow White House hopeful, former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D), started speaking Spanish during the first night of Democratic presidential debates.

“I just knew he had laid a gauntlet down,” Booker told CNN’s Anderson Cooper with a chuckle. “And I was talking a little bit with [Julián] Castro. Both he and I knew, as people who can speak Spanish, that now we were gonna bring it as well.”

He added that he too “pulled out” a bit of Spanish during the two-hour debate Wednesday evening, realizing that “there’s a lot of bilingual people, some even trilingual, in this race.”

Watch the video clip below, which is hilariously set to zoom in twice on Booker’s face to give you the full effect of how he stared at O’Rourke:

(I laughed for a solid five minutes after watching this the first time!)

Earlier this week, Bonchie wrote about photos taken of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) during a trip she took to the southern border before she was elected to serve in Congress. They showed what looked like an emotional AOC reacting to seeing something horrible just across the fences:

As Jennifer Van Laar noted later, however, the images appeared to have been staged, because a more broad image of the landscape in front of Ocasio-Cortez displayed nothing but border patrol personnel:

After Booker’s look and the images of AOC went viral, video producer and Twitter superstar Caleb Hull came up with this humorous meme of Booker giving her the side eye during her 2018 trip:

For those who haven’t seen it, I thought it was worth sharing. Because we desperately needed to end this week on a humorous note. After Paul Krugman Compares Republicans to Neo-Nazis, He Beclowns Himself Complaining About Socialist Labels

As I’ve written before, I’m not really sure what’s worse: New York Times columnist Paul Krugman attempting to differentiate between “brands of anti-Semitism”, his poor track record when it comes to predicting the economy, or him ignorantly griping about the worthiness of Medal of Freedom recipients.

This week I think he’s managed to outdo himself on all of those fronts.

On Wednesday, the paper’s graphic editor Sahil Chinoy penned a column in which he asserted that the Republican party is much more further right than the Democratic party is left:

The Republican Party leans much farther right than most traditional conservative parties in Western Europe and Canada, according to an analysis of their election manifestos. It is more extreme than Britain’s Independence Party and France’s National Rally (formerly the National Front), which some consider far-right populist parties. The Democratic Party, in contrast, is positioned closer to mainstream liberal parties.

These findings are based on data from the Manifesto Project, which reviews and categorizes each line in party manifestos, the documents that lay out a group’s goals and policy ideas. We used the topics that the platforms emphasize, like market regulation and multiculturalism, to put them on a common scale.

A lot of highly questionable claims and comparisons were made in the piece, especially when you consider being on “the right” in some countries means vastly different things than what it means here. But Krugman nevertheless eagerly jumped on board to praise the article and the accompanying graphic (h/t: Twitchy):

A few hours later, the Nobel Memorial Prize-winning economist expanded on his thoughts. He insinuated the mainstream media – who are unquestionably left-wing and in some cases borderline socialist – has somehow been unfair to Democrats by allowing Republicans to call them socialists without being questioned on it.

The “fascist” label for Republicans, per Krugman, is much closer to the truth:

So he can falsely compare Republicans to neo-Nazis without blinking an eye – and without question, but Republicans who correctly point out how the left is openly embracing socialism should be called out by the mainstream media?

Democrats have a presidential candidate who is unashamed to call himself a socialist. In fact, the last time Sen. Bernie Sanders ran for president, he and his socialist platform gave the eventual Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton a run for her money.

And if that’s not proof enough of the left’s lurch towards socialism, how about we let admitted socialist Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) back me up on this? The freshman Congresswoman embraces the label, but hates how – in her mind – Republicans have unfairly used the word to scare people:

I rest my case.

The Democratic Primary Debate Moderators Were an Embarrassment

Westlake Legal Group media.townhall-3-5-620x317 The Democratic Primary Debate Moderators Were an Embarrassment Soft Ball Questions Rachel Maddow Politics NBC News MSNBC media bias Lester Holt kamala harris Joe Biden Front Page Stories Front Page Featured Story embarrassing democrats CNN Chuck Todd 2020 election

With the first Democratic primary debate in the books, there’s time to reflect on the spectacle that was witnessed.

As I posted earlier today, I believe that Joe Biden was the biggest loser over the event, not because he’s going to lose to Kamala Harris, but because he went on record with left-wing positions that will kneecap him in the general election.

But it wasn’t just the candidates who were losers last night. So were the moderators.

In our live-blog here at RedState, I noted that if Chuck Todd had any bit of reputation left before the night began, he burned it to the ground by the time things were over. The point of a moderator is not to reinforce the correctness of a partisan idea and then ask them the candidates which one of them are the best at accomplishing said partisan idea.

There’s supposed be a challenging of positions, of fallacies, and of presumptions that are often made in political campaigns. When Joe Biden claimed the tax cuts were for the wealthy, a good moderator would have corrected him and made him answer for his lie. When Kamala Harris brought up 1970’s busing, someone with integrity would have pointed out to her that the program was actually a failure.

Furthermore, a good debate makes candidates answer for their past inconsistencies and the technical workings of the “plans” that are spewed forth. Questions like “how will we pay for that” or “how would you get such an extreme idea through Congress?”

We got none of that the past two nights. Instead, we got this.

Just embarrassing.

Keep in mind that Fox News has never and will likely never allow Sean Hannity or Tucker Carlson to moderate a debate. As it stands, they won’t even let them anchor election coverage. Yet, MSNBC trotted out Rachel Maddow, one of the craziest, most partisan voices on TV as the headlining moderator.

The other moderators were no better, with all of them, including the supposed straight shooting Lester Holt framing far-left positions as rational wisdom with almost every question.

These news outlets are going to have to decide what they want to be. Because you can’t claim to be a protected class of truth tellers that are vital to our Republic one minute and operate as partisan hacks the next. Well, I take that back. You can do that, but you’ll lose all credibly and good will in the process, which is exactly what’s happened to the mainstream media.

NBC News was already a joke. Instead of trying to right that ship by asking hard hitting questions the past two days, they chose to throw slow-pitch softballs. You know what would have actually been useful? To have someone like Chris Wallace, who notedly does not like Trump at all, actually push these 2020 Democrats on their insanity. Instead, the DNC has boycotted Fox News all together.

On a related note, if I’m the Republican Party, I don’t even bother giving NBC or CNN any debates next primary cycle. Doing so would only reinforce the double standards at play.
