After six months of fighting, the demagoguery, the lies, and the obscene amount of virtue signaling from Democrats like AOC and several presidential candidates over the border crisis, Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) took to the Twitter machine Thursday morning to drop a MOAB on funding deniers and their obtuse apologists in a series of tweets.

Crenshaw started out on his official House Twitter account by using a video clip to note that President Obama had a very similar position on the illegal immigration issue that the Trump administration has now. “What’s changed?” he asked, rhetorically:

He then pointed out that what little Congress has done over the last several years hasn’t been enough, that “people are dying”, and that things must change now:

Later, he retweeted a series of comments from GOP House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy on how House Dems kept blocking attempts at border funding. McCarthy concluded by saying there was no other conclusion to draw other than that House Democrats were just playing politics on the border crisis rather than genuinely trying to resolve the issue.

Here are McCarthy’s tweets for context – Crenshaw’s response is below them:

He’s right. It’s been utterly appalling to watch House and Senate Democrats play political games on the border issue for the last several months, first denying there was a crisis at the border and then all of a sudden saying there was and that it was Trump’s fault when things got progressively worse. It’s been even more maddening that the mainstream media has allowed them to get away with their duplicity.

Later in the day, after the news broke that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had caved on the funding bill, Never Trumper Jennifer Rubin tweeted out this absurd hot take on Pelosi’s actions:

The freshman Congressman was. not. having it:

“Misleading”? Crenshaw was being a gentleman, of course. What Rubin was doing is what many of us would call “lying”.

For now, Crenshaw and his fellow Republicans have won the battle on humanitarian aid but the long war over how to tackle the illegal immigration crisis will still continue. Hopefully not for too much longer, because Crenshaw is 100% correct in saying things can’t stay the way they are on the southern border. They just can’t.

Democratic Debate, Round 2: What To Expect When You’re Lamenting

Well, it’s time for the second round of the first Democratic debate. After last night’s glitch- and interruption-riddled debacle, one can only hope that tonight’s is even more of a trainwreck. The same rules for viewing will apply as last night: NBC-exclusive, so catch it at 9/8c on NBC, MSNBC, and Telemundo.

Tonight’s cast features the Democratic front-runner, Joe Biden, along with Bernie Sanders, Pete Buttigieg, Kamala Harris, Michael Bennett, Marianne Williamson, Kirsten Gillibrand, Andrew Yang, John Hickenlooper, and Eric Swalwell.

As last night’s was Elizabeth Warren’s to lose (and I maintain she almost did by not winning it outright), so too is tonight’s Biden’s to lose. Despite a full assault from major media outlets, Biden has stayed on top in polling, but he has to deal with Bernie Sanders, who leads the far-left progressives, and Kamala Harris, who will try to take up the middle ground between the two.

Buttigieg could also make a stand here after taking a beating over his handling of Black Lives Matter protestors, but the rest of the slate is just there as a recognition of their fundraising and name-recognition efforts thus far. It’s very difficult to see any of them making a good impression – though one could have argued the same about John Delaney before last night’s debate.

Here at RedState, we will also be covering the debate on our front page with live commentary. If you check out RedState’s contributor list on Twitter, you’ll get live updates from many of us there as well.

Prepare your drinks now, friends. It’s going to be a long night.

Why the Democratic Debate Bored You to Tears

Westlake Legal Group Beto-620x315 Why the Democratic Debate Bored You to Tears President Politics MSNBC Front Page Stories Featured Story elections donald trump democrats Democrat Debates Allow Media Exception 2020

Wednesday’s Democratic debates brought in a decent amount of viewers but paled in comparison to the viewership during the debates of the 2016 elections.

According to The Hill, NBC brought in some 10 million viewers. A good crowd to be sure, but if the Democrats were looking for a blockbuster night, they didn’t get it:

The 10 million viewership number only pertains to NBC. MSNBC and Telemundo also simulcasted the debate. Those numbers are also expected Thursday afternoon from Nielsen.

For context, the first Republican debate of the 2016 presidential primary season on Fox News, which featured then-real estate mogul Donald Trumpas a front-runner in his first political debate, drew more than 24 million viewers in August 2015.

On the Democratic side in 2015, CNN drew 15.3 million viewers for a debate headlined by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and three other candidates.

There’s a good reason for this, too.

One of the things you try to avoid in comedy is going as blue as you can as quickly as you can. Shock laughs can be funny, but they don’t have a long shelf life, and it leaves you very few places to go afterward.

Looking at the Democratic debate last night made me think of this rule, only the Democrats didn’t start by leading off with the most shocking thing they could say, they came into the debate right after the shocking parts of the Democrat party had had their say. The “eat the rich” and “orange man bad” positions they took is something we’ve been listening to now for a long time. You can only clutch your pearls over hearing leftist politicians talk about their exorbitant tax plans and radical plans to solve climate change so much.

In short, we didn’t hear anything different, just the same bad jokes that lost their edge. We didn’t listen to anything that would have enlightened us as to why we should seriously consider any of these Democrats as a viable candidate. The radical positions the Democrats now feel they should take are positions most Americans have already ruled out.

But aside from the fact that the debates were about as substantial as a ghost party, the real reason people couldn’t bring themselves to care was that the elections are likely already decided. Just last March, the election was being called for Trump by economists who were telling us that the economy is too strong under the current president, and history tells us that a strong economy is almost a guaranteed reelection for the guy running it.

Trump isn’t going anywhere. You know that, I know that, and the Democrats know that, too. They may try, or at least give the impression that they’re trying, but at the end of the day, Trump has the economy and his incumbency working in his favor. Not to mention the fact that people like the guy despite a media throwing Trump’s bad poll numbers around like confetti. He’s filling stadiums with overflow in the thousands. Most Democrats would be lucky to fill a room at the Y.

There are no stakes. The die was cast and it already came up Trump. Save for a miracle for the Democrats, a second term is inevitable.

At this time we’re watching to see which panderer will lose to Donald Trump.

It’s time better spent doing anything else at all.

At UC Campus’ New ‘Ché Café,’ Students Pay Tribute To The Marxist Revolutionary, Until They Learn How He Treated Gays [Video]

What would explain the timeless allure of Ché Guevara to those on the left? Fifty-two years after his death, the iconic photograph of Guevara taken by Alberto Korda in 1960, complete with beard and beret, still adorns posters and tee shirts.

The latest sign that the charismatic Latin revolutionary still appeals, especially to the young, is a new cafe which has opened on the University of California’s San Diego campus. It’s name? The Ché Café.

Prager University’s Will Witt traveled to the campus to speak with  students about the cafe – and the man.

Witt first speaks with a male student who works there. He asks the young man to explain the Ché Café.

He tells Witt, “It’s part like a music venue, part like a student community center, part like a vegan kitchen and part a social space for radical ideologies and it’s also a safe space.

Witt asks, “So, when you say radical ideologies, do Trump supporters come here?”

The student smiles and says, “Oh, no. I mean more like leftist political ideas…If they start saying stuff that violates our stated policy, which includes like no racism, no transphobia, it’s like, then we will kick them out and stuff.”

“Does that include like no homophobia?” Witt asks.

“No homophobia. No transphobia. No racism,” the student replies.

“I was just wondering because you know it’s named after Ché Guevara who put a lot of homosexuals in prison in Cuba,” Witt tells the student.

Two female students were unfamiliar with him until Witt showed the second one a photo, I should say the photo of Guevara. Suddenly, a huge smile crosses her face.

He speaks to a male student with a ring through his nose. “A great man from what I know. I’ve listened to an interview by Ché. He seemed passionate. He seemed like he was rooted in human rights.”

Most of these students have little or no idea of Guevara’s life and deeds.

He was a ruthless killer.

Ernest Hemingway lived in Cuba at the time of the Revolution. “Guevara was jailer and executioner-in-chief of Castro’s dictatorship. As boss of the notorious La Cabaña prison in Havana, he supervised the detention, interrogation, summary trials and execution of hundreds of “class enemies.”

Hemingway once “witnessed the shooting of prisoners condemned by the tribunals under Guevara’s control. He watched as the men were trucked in, unloaded, shot, and taken away.”

That was the real Ché Guevara.

Yet, he became a hero in the counterculture of the 1960s. Guevara, or rather his famous photo, has become a symbol of rebellion for many in the West.

But he was no hero.

Watch the video.

Michael Avenatti’s Bad Week Gets Worse After Homophobic Tweet He Sent to Lindsey Graham

As I wrote yesterday, liberal icon Michael Avenatti has not had a very good week.

Avenatti, who has been indicted on multiple counts of fraud, got ripped to shreds Monday by NRSC senior advisor Matthew Whitlock after calling Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) a “fraud.” Whitlock started off by saying that “Michael Avenatti calling anyone a fraud is the most hilarious thing on the internet today” and the fun went on from there as Avenatti continuously tried and failed to one-up him.

On Tuesday, Avenatti attacked “View” co-host Meghan McCain over her stance on border detention centers. When Ben Shapiro responded to the attack in kind, Avenatti blew up. It did not go well.

Getting utterly, thoroughly, and repeatedly owned on Twitter for his nasty behavior did not deter porn star Stormy Daniels’s former attorney from acting out, however.

Shortly after the Democratic debate was over Wednesday night, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) sent out a tweet joking about a third Trump term:

In classic Avenatti fashion, the attorney injected a classless joke that spoke volumes about his “character”:

Notice the time he sent the tweet – around 2:30 Thursday morning. 5 hours later, the obsessive liberal blowhard sent the same tweet, except this time it was in the form of a direct reply:

Clearly, he wants Graham to respond. The Senator hasn’t, but others weighed in and ripped Avenatti:

Graham has been increasingly subjected to baseless allegations about his sexuality from unhinged Democrats ever since he started aggressively defending President Trump during the Brett Kavanaugh confirmation hearings.

Instead of Censoring Politicians, Twitter Will Lightly Shadowban Them And Warn Users About Content

Westlake Legal Group shutterstock-stop-censorship-620x550 Instead of Censoring Politicians, Twitter Will Lightly Shadowban Them And Warn Users About Content twitter Front Page Stories Featured Story Censorship

Twitter seems to suffer from the misapprehension that the criticism its been taking over censorship has to do with the way they’ve been censoring, so they’ve come up with a scheme they think might please their critics.

Instead of removing posts, Twitter will put a notice on the offending post [of political candidates and/or government officials] that reads, “The Twitter Rules about abusive behavior apply to this tweet. However, Twitter has determined it may be in the public’s interest for the Tweet to remain available.” Users won’t be able to see the tweet until they click past the warning.

Twitter said it will also use an algorithm to downgrade the tweet so it’s less likely to appear in users’ feeds.

The new rules apply to verified government officials and political candidates with more than 100,000 followers.

“By nature of their positions these leaders have outsize influence and sometimes say things that could be considered controversial or invite debate and discussion. A critical function of our service is providing a place where people can openly and publicly respond to their leaders and hold them accountable.”

What Twitter fails to realize is that the criticism that they’re censoring users — conservatives mostly — doesn’t stem from the manner in which the censorship occurs. It’s directly related to the fact that Twitter has its own political bias and has been censoring those who don’t share that bias.

With that in mind, these milder censorship tactics will do little more than change the degree of the censorship but doesn’t address the real problem which is that Twitter operates a massive communications platform and decides as a corporate entity what its users should be allowed to see.

As always, because Twitter is a private company, they’re not required to allow all viewpoints. And they should be aware of real threats of violence that might be floating across their platform and work to tamp those down. But if they truly want to address the criticism, they need to stop actively policing the thoughts and opinions of users simply because they’re not the same thoughts and opinions of Twitter.

Facts First: Obama’s ICE Chief Sets the Record Straight on When the ‘Kids in Cages’ Policy Started

Westlake Legal Group BorderFence Facts First: Obama’s ICE Chief Sets the Record Straight on When the ‘Kids in Cages’ Policy Started Thomas Homan Politics North Carolina immigration Illegal Immigration Ice Front Page Stories Front Page Featured Story Featured Post donald trump democrats Culture Congress border crisis Barack Obama Allow Media Exception

One of the most persistent myths pushed by Democrats about the border crisis is that the “kids in cages” policy, where unaccompanied illegal immigrant children are kept behind chain link fences in detention facilities, started under the Trump administration. It has been debunked numerous times.

Nevertheless, like so many other myths the left has perpetuated since Trump’s election, it endures.

But one man who is in a position to know the facts on this issue is aiming to set the record straight. During a conference earlier this week on immigration, former President Obama’s ICE chief Thomas Homan spoke about the origins of “kids in cages”:

“I’ve been to that facility, where they talk about cages. That facility was built under President Obama under (Homeland Security) Secretary Jeh Johnson. I was there because I was there when it was built,” said Thomas Homan, who was Obama’s executive associate director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement for nearly four years.

At an immigration conference today, Homan, under consideration for a new position of “border czar” in the Trump administration, grew visibly angry answering a question about “cages” often cited by Democratic critics of the president.

[…]

He cited one Democratic chairman who asked a Trump official, “You still keeping kids in cages?”

Homan, at the conference hosted by the Center for Immigration Studies, said, “I would answer the question, ‘The kids are being housed in the same facility built under the Obama administration.’ If you want to call them cages, call them cages. But if the left wants to call them cages and the Democrats want to call them cages then they have to accept the fact that they were built and funded in FY 2015.”

Earlier this month, Trump named Homan as the administration’s “border czar”, but Homan told Fox News in an interview that a decision had not yet been made and that there were still discussions going on about the position.

Homan, who has been with ICE since it was started in 2003, has been a defender of Trump’s stance on border security and illegal immigration, and is a frequent critic of Democratic policies on the issue. He also served as Trump’s acting ICE chief for 18 months

Las Vegas Allows Parking Tickets to be Paid in Donations for Kids

The Las Vegas City Council has announced a plan for people to pay off their parking tickets while helping local kids.

The council voted unanimously to give people the option to pay parking fines issued between June 19 and July 19 by donating school supplies to the Teachers Exchange.

Items the city is willing to accept in lieu of fines include:

  • Pencils
  • Pens
  • Erasers
  • Dry erase markers
  • Index cards
  • Paper towels/Disinfecting wipes
  • Card stock
  • Copy paper
  • Storage bins
  • Rulers
  • Scissors
  • Pencil sharpeners
  • Post-it notes

The supplies must be equal or greater in value to the amount of the fine, and only citations that were no threat to public safety are eligible.

Donations should be brought to the Parking Services Offices at 500 S. Main St in Las Vegas within 30 days of the infraction and a receipt is required.

In July of 2016, the Las Vegas City Council authorized a program that established this occasional program allowing charitable donations in lieu of payment for parking fines.

The city tweeted about the program.

David Riggleman, Communications Director for the City told Yahoo Lifestyle that donations usually total between $1,000 and 2,000 when they run such programs.

“It is a way to encourage building community and to help non-profit associations in need. We also believe it makes paying parking fines more palatable if the donation is going to a good cause,” he says.

The Ratings From the Democratic Debate Were About What You’d Expect

Right now, one of the most controversial figures to ever sit in the oval office possibly has his job up for grabs, and the world wants to know what his opponents are going to do about it.

And the answer is to pander you into boredom.

According to The Hill, the Democrat debates that would help decide which person would lose to Donald Trump drew in an audience that I would refer to as “curious” at best. It was a decent audience at 10 million, but compared to the crowds that were brought in during the 2016 elections, that number is shrug-worthy:

I’d like to get more accurate stats to see how many people tuned in and tuned out after a time. Nothing that was said on the stage was particularly new, and the extremist positions being given by almost every candidate up there is one that most of America, even the majority of Democrats, aren’t exactly excited by.

What’s more, there was no winner from last night, but the clear loser was definitely Robert “Beto” O’Rourke, who the Democrats on stage went after due to being the weak, sick gazelle among them. Nobody took any chances by punching up. It was, to but it bluntly, boring.

We may get a different story for tonight as we’re now going to see the heavyweights within the Democrat party see who can speak better Spanish. People love Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden, and they’re going to want to hear from them.
