As Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) has shown since elected but especially in recent weeks, he is unafraid to take on the loudest, shrillest voices on the left, no matter the issue.

Last week, it was Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) on her “border detention centers=Nazi concentration camps” comparison, and Black Hat for disinviting Rep. Will Hurd (R-TX) from a tech conference over his pro-life views. Over the weekend, it was twice-failed Democratic candidate for president Hillary Clinton – who tried to blame the border crisis on Republicans.

Also over the weekend, the freshman Congressman took issue with comments from longtime Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), who went on a wild Twitter rant regarding President Trump and possible war with Iran:

Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., drew fire from Rep. Dan Crenshaw, R-Texas, on Twitter for accusing President Trump of provoking a conflict with Iran.

The U.S. military’s Central Command released a video earlier this month showing Iranian forces removing an unexploded mine from one of the two ships that were attacked near the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has denied any involvement in the conflict.

Trump called off a military strike against Tehran after they shot down an American drone they claimed was in Iranian airspace. It was valued at over $100 million. Iran has since claimed they have the capability to continue shooting down American drones if necessary.

Waters said Trump didn’t deserve credit for showing restraint and questioned the nature of America’s surveillance of Iran.

In particular, Crenshaw took issue with this tweet from Waters:

In response, he blasted the Congresswoman:

Red State‘s Jennifer Van Laar documented Waters’s tweets last night and explained how her rant was wildly off the mark for a number of reasons, but commenting on an issue without the facts has never stopped Mad Maxine before.

CNN Quickly Goes to Commercial as Trump’s Rape Accuser Claims People Like Rape

Westlake Legal Group Untitled-1-5-620x357 CNN Quickly Goes to Commercial as Trump’s Rape Accuser Claims People Like Rape Sexual Assault rape accusation Rape Politics New York Front Page Stories Featured Story E. Jean Carroll donald trump CNN Anderson Cooper Allow Media Exception

President Donald Trump’s rape accuser E. Jean Carroll has made headlines recently by claiming the President raped her decades ago in a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room in New York City. The mainstream media was only too happy to jump on the story as quickly as possible to find its new narrative for impeaching Trump and did it so quickly that they forgot to check on a few things.

Like, for instance, whether or not the person making the claim wasn’t a complete basketcase.

Carroll was being interviewed by Anderson Cooper on Monday Cooper brought up the fact that Carroll doesn’t feel like a victim, and told the CNN host that she was not “thrown on the ground and ravished.”

Carroll then went into oddly talking about how the concept of rape is misunderstood in America.

“The word rape carries so many sexual connotations,” said Carroll. “This was nuts. This was not sexual.”

Cooper interjected that rape was something most people thought of as a violent, sexual assault.

“I think most people will think of rape as being sexy,” said Carroll, who nodded as an awkward silence settled on the two.

“Let’s take a short break,” said Cooper after a moment.

“Think of the fantasies,” added Carroll.

Cooper stuttered as he once again tried to cut to commercial.

“You’re fascinating to talk to,” said Carroll awkwardly nodding at Cooper without breaking eye contact.

It’s possible that Carroll was drunk during this exchange, and a lot of her slurred words and exaggerated actions point to that. However, I watched some of her other interviews and she’s demonstrated the same kind of speech and awkward behavior. Perhaps she was drunk during all of them too. The alternative is that she’s not well and the media is exploiting her.

Regardless, Carroll isn’t the central figure of the controversy in this particular moment, it’s the media who thrust Carroll into the spotlight and pointed as many spotlights as they could on her after her very shaky claim surfaced. Apparently, they learned nothing from the Michael Avenatti debacle, and not enough from the Kavanaugh witch hunt.

One prediction I will make is that Carroll will depart the mainstream’s focus as quickly as she arrived, and the media will move on to the next claimant. With the Russia investigation coming up with nothing after years of desperately hyping up every lead and sensationalizing every detail, the media will try to revert to a tried and true method of discrediting a politician, and that’s with rape or sexual assault claims.

So far, every bit of that dirty water has washed off of Trump’s duck-like back, but if the media is anything, it’s tenacious. It tried again with Carroll, and they’ll try again with someone else.

The NBA Stops Using Completely Innocuous Phrase, Cites Racial Insensitivity

This is one of those double take stories were you have to make sure it’s not a Babylon Bee or The Onion article.

The NBA has decided that the completely innocuous, objective descriptor of “team owner” is racially insensitive and are banning it’s use within the NBA. Yes, people who own teams are no longer allowed be called the owner of their teams.

This seems normal.

Apparently, some players, including Draymond Green (already one of the most drama-stricken players in the NBA), have complained that it’s racially insensitive to have a figure above them in the hierarchy being described as an owner. Correlations to slave ownership and all that.

“You shouldn’t say ‘owner,’” Green said. “When you think of a basketball team, nobody thinks of the f–kin’ Golden State Warriors and think of that damn bridge. They think of the players that make that team…you don’t even know what the f–k [the bridge] is called.”

If that’s not a solid, logical argument, I don’t know what is. And who doesn’t know the name of the Bay bridge?

Of course, essentially no one ever has described a team owner as “owning” the players on his team. The person who owns the team literally owns it as an enterprise. This kind of shifting of language is just nonsensical and completely unnecessary. Every business has an owner and there are plenty of them with majority black employee bases. What makes the NBA so special here that they need to distort language this way?

The term governor will probably be found to be problematic soon too, as it could be twisted historically as well. Then we can move to team “stakeholder” or something more ridiculous because no one is ever happy.

Mullah Madness: Expanded US Sanctions End ‘Channel Of Diplomacy Forever,’ White House Is ‘Afflicted By Mental Retardation’

A spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, Abbas Mousavi, said in a tweet that Trump’s decision to increase economic sanctions on Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other top Iranian officials ends the “channel of diplomacy forever.”

Mousavi said “Imposing useless sanctions on Iran’s Supreme Leader (Ayatollah Ali Khamenei) and the commander of Iran’s diplomacy (Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif) is the permanent closure of the path of diplomacy. Trump’s desperate administration is destroying the established international mechanisms for maintaining world peace and security.”

The new sanctions are meant to hinder Iran’s access to the U.S. financial system as well as their U.S. assets. These steps are intended to further cripple their already ravaged economy.

Following Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Obama administration’s 2015 nuclear deal and restore sanctions, tensions have escalated between Washington and Tehran.

Trump said the sanctions “will deny the supreme leader and the supreme leader’s office and those closely affiliated with him and the office access to key financial resources and support.” He added “that the sanctions were in part a response to the shooting down of the drone, but would have happened anyway.”

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said the sanctions “lock up literally billions of dollars more of assets.”

Hostilities erupted two weeks ago following the attack on two oil tankers, one Japanese and one Norwegian, in the Gulf of Oman. U.S. intelligence places the blame on Iran for those incidents, however, the country denies it.

Iran does take responsibility for shooting down a U.S. drone last week they claim was flying through Iranian airspace, which the U.S. emphatically denies.

Last Thursday, ten minutes before the U.S. was to poised to strike three Iranian military targets in retaliation for the drone attack, Trump cancelled the mission. He asked a general how many Iranians would die as a result. When he was given an answer of 150, he aborted the strike feeling that it wasn’t a proportionate response.

For obvious reasons, Iran would prefer to see a Democrat win the presidency in 2020. They know that a war with the U.S. would be very unpopular among most American voters. If Trump were to engage the U.S. into a new war in the Middle East, his odds of reelection would decline.

From this perspective, Iran is “baiting” Trump with their provocative acts. They would like nothing more than a U.S. attack on their country.

Trump campaigned on the senselessness of engaging in foreign wars. He is well aware of Iran’s strategy and he does not want the U.S. to become involved in a new war. But on Monday, he told reporters that his “restraint is not limitless.”

According to Fox News, National Security Adviser John Bolton “said the U.S. is open to negotiations, all Iran needs to do is “walk through that open door.” It was unclear if his response was in connection to Mousavi’s tweet.”

Fox also confirmed that the “U.S. military carried out a cyberattack against Iran last Thursday…Sources said U.S. Cyber Command launched the cyberattack targeting the Iranian intelligence and radar installations used to down the U.S. Navy drone last week.”

Aside from their menacing rhetoric, Iran’s position weakens every day as a result of the sanctions. And, if they continue perpetrating hostile acts, other nations may finally decide to join the U.S. and take action against the country. They can’t go on targeting ships and aircraft in the region at will and expect no consequences.

Unfortunately, we’re not at that point yet. On Monday, the United Nations Security Council condemned the attacks on the oil tankers and the drone, but they failed to condemn Iran.

Following the meeting, Acting U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Jonathan Cohen spoke to reporters:

The Security Council and all nations should try to imagine the future of global air travel if a country can shoot down an aircraft merely for being in its flight information region. Indeed, we’ve already seen air carriers from around the world avoid Iran’s flight information region as a result.

Iran must understand that these attacks are unacceptable. It’s time for the world to join us in saying so.

The coordinates of the drone’s flight path and location make clear the aircraft at no point entered Iranian airspace. Iran’s claims to the contrary are false and rely on an argument that the U.S. aircraft was in Iran’s flight information region. But, a country’s flight information region is not the same as their airspace. The flight information region extends much further.

Iran should, as I said two weeks ago, meet diplomacy with diplomacy—a call Iran described as inflammatory.

Iran’s UN Ambassador Majid Ravanchi told reporters, “You can’t start a dialogue with somebody who is threatening you, intimidating you…The U.S. decision today to impose more sanctions against Iran is yet another indication that the U.S. has no respect for international law and order as well as the views of the overwhelming majority of the international community.”

Fox reported that, during the meeting, Germany’s Ambassador Christoph Heusgen read a statement on behalf of Germany, the United Kingdom and France. It said, “These developments risk miscalculation and conflict. We call for de-escalation and dialogue, with full respect for international rules.”

So, as I said, we’re not there yet. Most countries are putting their own economic interests ahead of what they surely have to see with their own eyes. Hopefully one day they will acknowledge the obvious.

Unraveled: Website for Knitters and Crocheters Bans All Content Supporting Trump

Everything is political these days, and it’s exhausting. Millions of Americans enjoy knitting and crocheting as hobbies, to provide some relaxation, a way to make cherished gifts for loved ones, or even a little extra income. But if you are a supporter of President Donald Trump, one of the biggest yarn crafting websites wants you to know you’re no longer welcome.

Well, technically, you’re still welcome, but you better keep your mouth shut about Trump.

The website in question, Ravelry, has often had a left-leaning tone — they heavily promoted various patterns for the infamous pink “cat” hats seen at many of the Women’s March protests — but the users had a range of political beliefs all across the partisan spectrum (you know, just like America).

The site includes searchable posts for knitting and crochet patterns, some available for free and some for sale, as well as a forum section where users can post about a variety of topics, some yarn-related and some not. Most of the content is utterly benign and unoffensive to any sane person, focused heavily on discussing patterns, sharing techniques and problem solving difficult patterns, or frivolous topics like this photo thread of users’ pet cats playing with yarn.

I’d like to say I hope we can all agree that kittens playing with yarn are still cute, but I’m not so sure anymore. The current divisive toxicity of our politics is spreading rapidly, and Ravelry’s millions of members are now in the middle of the battlefield.

Over the weekend, Ravelry’s Twitter account (with a bio touting that they are an “inclusive, friendly website for [yarn emoji] people around the [globe emoji]”) posted a link to an announcement on their website stating that supporting Trump was no longer allowed on Ravelry.

The linked announcement clarified that this ban included voicing any support for Trump not just in forum posts, but also in user profiles and in patterns. Posting patterns for those pink hats is fine. A knitted MAGA hat or blanket is not.

The head-scratching explanation provided by the site’s administration was to accuse all Trump supporters as being equivalent to white supremacists:

“We cannot provide a space that is inclusive of all and also allow support for open white supremacy. Support of the Trump administration is undeniably support for white supremacy.”

Trump supporters are still allowed to use the site and participate, they just “can’t talk about [supporting Trump] here.” No one’s pattern designs or data would be deleted, but any of the Trump content that offends the site operators so much would be recategorized as private, invisible to all users except the one who posted it.

This means any Trump supporters who had pro-Trump designs for sale on Ravelry will no longer be able to use the site to sell them, and pro-Trump political activists cannot share designs supporting Trump on the site, even for free, for other supporters to access.

The announcement also mentioned that they had adapted their “No Trump” policy from RPG.net, a website forum dedicated to role-playing games.

Political patterns are by no means anywhere close to a majority of the content on Ravelry, but there have been some on both sides. Here are a few patterns from “Deplorable Knitter,” still available from Instagram posts:

As the new policy was enacted, Deplorable Knitter posted screen caps of complaints about her patterns, and strongly objecting to the accusation she or her patterns were racist:

Deplorable Knitter’s G-rated patterns are no longer welcome on Ravelry. Because simply mentioning Trump or his campaign slogans is an act of hate, according to Ravelry.

Still acceptable, however, is this scarf that displays the message “F*** TRUMP” when read at an angle, a seemingly endless array of genitalia crafted out of yarn (NSFW photos at link), and this whimsical design of two deer getting intimate in the woods, ready to adapt for knitted hats or mittens (images sort of NSFW but probably only if your boss is really strict).

I personally have been knitting and crocheting for years (see cat and blanket below), and have often used Ravelry to find new patterns and research techniques. I’m involved in political issues all day long and am far more likely to be searching or posting about blanket patterns than political topics — I’m knitting as a break from politics, not to do more politics! — but must say I find this policy to be completely ridiculous.

Banning posts that are actually racist is fairly noncontroversial as far as internet forum moderation practices go. But it’s a wild and gross exaggeration to say all Trump supporters are white supremacists. I didn’t vote for him and will not vote for him (much to the constant delight of our RedState commenters) but I know many, many people who voted for Trump as a vote against Hillary Clinton, certainly not to endorse any sort of racism or other prejudicial hatred.

Ravelry overstepped with this broad ban on Trump supporters, and it will be a troubling trend if more sites adopt this kind of policy. Dividing America into segregated political groups across all aspects of life will solve no problems and only make matters worse.

Finding common ground is one of the greatest legacies of this grand American experiment, and we have historically been better than any other nation on earth at taking all sorts of people with all sorts of ideas and all sorts of political beliefs and finding a way to peacefully progress as a nation.

How many other countries — even ones we characterize as first world democracies — still experience violence and unrest when elections remove one political party and put another in power? We’ve had bitterly divided and often painful close presidential elections with about half of the country professing to hate the winner for most of my life — Bush, Clinton, another Bush, Obama, Trump — but each time the winner has shown up in Washington, D.C. to take the oath of office, and his predecessor has left the White House peacefully and without bloodshed. We should all be proud of that.

Banning Trump supporters from Ravelry doesn’t end white supremacy and it doesn’t defeat Donald Trump at the ballot box next November. It just deprives people of the chance to bond over cute knitting projects because their political beliefs barred half of them at the door.

A Viral Photo of Children at Detention Facilities Got Blamed on Trump, Reality Tells a Different Story

CREDIT: US Customs and Border Protection via Flickr.com. Public domain.

This is what, the 4th or 5th time a photo of kids at the border has gone viral that ended up not telling the real story? In this case, the misleading was clearly intentional though, as you’ll see.

A picture of children sleeping with aluminum thermal blankets on the floor of a CBP detention facility made the rounds this weekend. It was posted by someone named Nancy Lee Grahn. Apparently I’m supposed to know who she is because she’s on TV and has a blue check-mark, but admittedly, I’ve never heard of her.

Here’s the original tweet, which is still up.

The immediate judgement was that Donald Trump personally drove there and forced the kids to sleep on the floor just because he’s that evil. The left exploded over the photos and it’s still going today. She even pinned it on her timeline.

The problem? This was once again a picture from the Obama administration. In fact, the date stamp is in the picture but Grahn cropped it out.

Have you every noticed that almost every problematic photo of the border situation that’s went viral in the last year has ended up being from the Obama administration? Funny how that works. Yet, time and time again, the media and Twitter-verse outright lie about the genesis to throw partisan mud.

To be fair to Obama though, it’s hardly “torture” to give thermal blankets to children after they’ve been apprehended as unaccompanied minors. What else is CBP supposed to do with them initially? Put them up at a Holiday Inn in Phoenix? They are caught on the border, away from civilization and have to be cared for immediately. Bunk beds and playgrounds aren’t readily available at that point in the process. That’s not initial, it’s just the reality on the ground.

The lack of rationality in this debate is just mind-numbing. CBP is doing everything it can with the resources it has to take care of illegal immigrants who are caught. You can not simply dump children on the street corner in the interior. They have to be held, checked out, and placed in homes. That means time in a detention facility. It’s not ideal, but it’s the reality of the situation. No one is purposely hurting kids. These are caring, career law enforcement officials that are on the front lines. They aren’t the Waffen SS running “concentration camps” or any other ridiculous nonsense that’s been propagated lately.

That’s not to say today’s facilities aren’t having issues. these facilities are waning in quality because of a lack of funding, which Democrats steadfastly refuse to provide while they virtue signal their disapproval of the conditions. The game they are playing is simply perverse and no one but right-wing outlets will even bother to call them on it.

This problem could be fixed next week if the mainstream media stopped playing politics and started actually holding Democrats accountable for their obstruction on this. But they won’t. We’ll instead continue to go around in circles because this is too politically advantageous of an issue for Democrats to actually do their jobs.

Teenager Tells His Teacher There Are Only 2 Genders. The School Suspends Him for Not Being ‘Inclusive’

In Aberdeenshire, Scotland, a teen told his teacher there are only two genders.

The teacher didn’t agree.

As reported by the Daily Mail, the instructor had told his class that a website which only allowed for two gender options was “old fashioned.”

The 17-year-old spoke up, saying that male and female are the only two, biologically.

For taking a position that was “not inclusive,” he was kicked out of class.

Later, the teacher discussed the issue with the boy privately — and the kid secretly videoed it.

On the recording, the molder of skulls full of mush can be heard telling the teenager his opinions should be relegated to his “own house.”

A friend of the disagreeing dude told the Mail why he recorded the conversation:

“He decided to film the teacher because he wanted to show what was going on in schools today for simply stating there are only two genders. He has nothing against anyone who identifies as LGBTQ, but completely disagrees that there are more than two genders and that it’s a social construct. He believes telling kids that boys are girls and girls are boys is a very dangerous thing and wanted to get his views across to the teacher. His view is that scientifically there are only two genders. This new gender theory that there are unlimited genders is something that should be discussed and debated – not just thrown into a class discussion and if you disagree you get kicked out of the room.”

In the video — which has been seen nearly 100,000 times on YouTube — the teen explains, “‘I think it’s silly to have anything other than two genders, Sir.”

The teacher drops the hammer:

“Could you please keep that opinion to your own house? Not in this school.”

He also points out, “Not every policy is scientific.”

And it’s the pupil’s fault:

“You chose to make an issue of making a point that is contrary to policy.”

As per the Mail, in response to the hubbub, an Aberdeenshire Council spokesperson asserted that the teacher’s right:

[He] said the public sector has a legal duty to show ‘due regard’ to certain “protected characteristics” – including age, sex and “gender reassignment.”

He added: “It is important to understand the context of any video clip taken without a person’s consent. In our schools, fostering good relations among different groups can be a real challenge but our aim is to support a fairer, inclusive environment for all.”

The boy was suspended for three weeks.

Trump To Nancy: Oh I Totally Can Strike Iran Without Congressional Approval

(AP Photo/Vahid Salemi, File)

On Friday, following Iran’s destruction of a U.S. drone and President Trump’s decision to call off a planned retaliatory strike, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said Democrats notified the president he could not initiate a strike against Iran without Congressional approval.

On Monday Trump responded via an exclusive interview with Hill.tv outside the White House: ”

“I disagree [with Pelosi], most people seem to disagree but I do like keeping them…they have ideas, they’re intelligent people, they come up with some thoughts. I actually learned a couple of things the other day when we had our meeting with Congress which I think helpful to me. I do like keeping them abreast but I don’t have to do it legally.”

The War Powers Resolution of 1973 allows a president 60 days to work with Congress on gaining their approval once they are informed within 48 hours of a president’s military strikes against a hostile nation. A president then has 30 days to end those operations. However, the The Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF), a Bush-era resolution passed after 9/11, gives the president authority to “use all necessary and appropriate force” against hostilities by foreign nations.

Rep. Adam Kinzinger, a bit of a critic of the administration’s decision to pull back on the initial planned strikes, told Newsweek he did not think Trump needed congressional approval.

“Our job is to declare a state of war exists and funded, it’s not to make every military move and decision. So, no, I don’t think it needs to [seek congressional approval],” he said. “If it’s not military or something, there’s got to be a cost to Iran—we have to send a message.”

On Monday, Mexican Secretary of Defense Luis Sandoval declared the deployment of 15,000 soldiers to the border in order to stave off the enormous amount of illegal immigration into the U.S.

CNN reporter Nick Valencia tweeted:

“Mexico has deployed almost 15,000 troops to the US-Mexico border to curve migration flow. An additional ~2,000 National Guard elements have also been deployed across the country’s southern border with Guatemala & Belize.: MX Secretary of Defense Luis Sandoval.”

As per CNN, the announcement was made in Cancun.

The 2,000 National Guard members serve to bolster the 4,500 troops already at the Central American border.

The news comes at the end of a long line of efforts by the Trump White House (here) to engage Mexico’s assistance in quelling America’s border crisis (here and here).

Of course, Trump hasn’t just been fighting our neighbors to the south in order to secure America; he’s been battling Democratic congresspeople elected by Americans to secure America in order to…secure…America (here).

As for Mexico, most recently, The Donald laid a 5% tariff on ’em:

But that was called off:

So what’s next? It remains to be seen. For now, presumably, the 15,000 soldiers will help reduce the influx of those coming into the U.S illegally. But there’s still certainly a whole lot more work to do and changes to make.

And the promised wall is yet to stand.

What are your thoughts on all this? Do you believe the deployment will help? Let us all know in the Comments section.

The hot takes we’ve gotten from Democrats in the aftermath of Joe Biden’s praise of his ability to get along with segregationist Senators in the 1970s have been all over the map.

Former Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) said in an interview Thursday that Biden’s comments on Democratic Sens. James Eastland (MS) and Herman Talmadge (GA) were not that big a deal in the scheme of things. Why? Because Sens. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Jeff Sessions (R-AL) were “pretty stinky, creepy people themselves” and Democratic Senators like Biden critic Cory Booker (NJ) had to work with them, too, she stated.

Sen. Kamala Harris (CA) ripped Biden’s remarks, suggesting he was “coddling the reputations of segregationists.” On the other hand, civil rights icons and Congressmen John Lewis (D-GA) and James Clyburn (D-SC) both defended Biden, saying they had to work with some pretty bad people back in those days, too.

MSNBC‘s “All In” host Chris Hayes had his own special take on it all in the midst of the controversy, and took to the Twitter machine to wonder out loud:

He followed up with a little bit of “WhatAboutBothism”, perhaps in an attempt to make his initial tweet sound more… measured:

Twitter being Twitter, there was actually a debate between liberals in the comments:

In the end, there was no clear winner in the debate. But there was one casualty: Common sense.
