There’s nothing quite like starting off with a bang.

At Tuesday night’s Democratic debate, the National Anthem played and POW!

Tim Ryan was out the gate with a big snub to “The Star Spangled Banner.”

Excellent work, for a guy trying to convince people to let him lead the country.

The Democratic Ohio representative refused to put his hand over his heart. Unlike everyone else on stage.

According to my sensibilities, he just lost the nomination. Before the debate even began. Game Over.

That’s my sensibility, but it isn’t necessarily that of the average Democratic voter.

Still, all he has to do to lose is not score higher than everyone else on that stage.

Heck, Bill Maher scratched Tim off after the debate a month ago (here):

“Tim Ryan. I think he said one good thing. No.”

A few social media reactions:

Commentator Michael Knowles got in on the action:

Fiery Meghan McCain fired off a missile:

Prediction: He’s gonna relive that moment in memes. It’ll keep coming up until he bails. And it’s only gotta put off the moderates.

I really think he’s out. He was a long shot to begin with; he needed all the help he could get.

Bernie Sanders even sang, for Pete’s sake.

I think it’s over.

Watch a guy lose just by standing still:

On tweeter had a comment of a different sort:

Good question.

And point — looks like the DNC’s going for arctic white.

Maybe he’ll be the Comeback Kid.

No American Owes a Dime In Reparations

Westlake Legal Group Reparations-Now-620x421 No American Owes a Dime In Reparations reparations racism Race Politics Front Page Stories Featured Story elections democrats black community Allow Media Exception 2020

Last night’s Democratic debate took an odd turn as candidates began seriously discussing reparations. For those of you unfamiliar with what that means, it refers to the idea that America — specifically white people — should give people of the black community cash payments as a sort of mea culpa for slavery.

Slavery gasped its last breath in 1865 thanks to the 13th Amendment’s passage in Congress despite a very obstinate Democratic party trying to stop it from happening. It was made possible thanks to a very bloody civil war that took the lives of hundreds of thousands of Americans.

I want to stop here and make something apparent. We’re now over 150 years away from that war and the terror and loss of it has escaped later generations, including myself. Mothers and wives buried sons and husbands. Family lines were broken forever. Communities were burned to the ground and the soil was soaked with blood in every direction.

One of the objectives of the war was to end slavery, and through all that horror America accomplished it. America paid for slavery, we’re just too young to remember the cost. Previous generations have built over the wreckage and crafted a shining city on the hill since, leaving the darkness of slavery behind us.

Yet I watched as the party that once tried to keep slavery alive make it a part of their platform to make everyone else pay up. Marianne Williamson was the most extreme by talking about a “$200 to $500 billion payment of a debt that is owed” while Sanders opposed a cash payment but did like the idea of 10 percent of federal spending going to areas where 20 percent of the population has been impoverished for over 30 years, or the “10-20-30 plan.”

The hard-left parts of the Democratic party went nuts. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez chimed in by trying to make the case for reparations herself on Twitter. She posted a video of rabid anti-white racist Ta-Nehisi Coates making the case for reparations.

Coates drives the idea that America owes black people reparations because America was built on the back of slavery. That’s only partly true and dismisses the idea that the blood, sweat, and tears of every kind of American had something to do with the success and prosperity of the country.

Furthermore, Coates has flawed logic. In fact, the concept of reparations is so flawed that the logistics of implementing any kind of payment would be borderline impossible.

First off, America is a country of immigrants. How many families were begun and prospered here after slavery was abolished is innumerable. Their families are in no way responsible for slavery, and yet, we’re going to make them pay? Even if families do go back to before the civil war happened, how many families had ancestors that owned slaves? How many even vehemently disagreed with it? They may have lived in a country that was built with the help of slavery, but is it truly fair to punish those who fought against the practice?

What about those of mixed race? Do they have to pay? What about successful companies that were founded after the civil war by immigrants. Do they have to pay an extra tax for a practice they never took part in nor would approve of?

What’s more, reparations is primarily aimed at the idea that white people owe black people. If we’re going to tax white people specifically, then reparations would never be paid. You’d have to tax all of America for such a plan to work, and why do all of America owe the black community? Again, many families weren’t even here for slavery and had nothing to do with it.

These are things that haven’t been addressed, and for as long as the idea of reparations has been around, you’d figure it would have been by now.

This isn’t even considering the fact that no one today was alive when racism was happening. No white person today in America has ever owned a slave and no black person has ever been one. I don’t know a person alive who would approve of such an atrocity or partake in it given the opportunity. We weren’t around to make the choice about slavery, and even if we were, today’s society would vehemently reject it.

Reparations is the idea that someone owes money to someone else simply because of their skin color. That is racist. We don’t approve of racism here in America. We make a pretty big deal out of making sure anyone who practices it is publicly shamed into oblivion. Someone suggesting that reparations be a thing is practicing racism. Some people who are for it maybe have good intentions, but hell is paved with those. Most people who push for reparations are hucksters like Coates.

The “huckster” label also includes 2020 Democrat candidates on the stage last night who don’t, at all, have good intentions. They’re utilizing the idea of reparations to literally buy votes from a minority community. They can’t pay for it, especially on top of all the promises of “free” stuff on top of that, and they know it. Regardless, they’re saying that successfully voting them into office will result in cash payments for black people.

The black community should feel insulted that their vote is reduced to nothing but cash value. It dismisses the idea of concerns about the economy, immigration, crime, or jobs. When it comes to reparations, the Democrats are essentially eliminating the idea that the black community are people, and putting a price tag on them.

Some things never change.

FBI Director Goes To Court To Protect Document Which Was Previously Released In Redacted Form; Hmmm

Westlake Legal Group AP_17285602507816-620x404 FBI Director Goes To Court To Protect Document Which Was Previously Released In Redacted Form; Hmmm Stephen Laycock Special Counsel President Trump Mueller Investigation Kathleen Kavalec Front Page Stories Featured Story FBI and DOJ Corruption donald trump corruption in the DOJ and the FBI Christopher Wray Christopher Steele Allow Media Exception Abuse of Power 2020

F.B.I director Christopher Wray is shown before speaking to reporters during a dedication ceremony for the new Atlanta Field Office building Thursday, Oct. 12, 2017, in Atlanta, (AP Photo/John Bazemore)

Kathleen Kavalec has become a familiar name to those of us who follow the Russia collusion probe on a daily basis. Kavalec served as the State Department’s Deputy Assistant Secretary. She met with dossier author Christopher Steele in October of 2016, ten days before the FBI submitted their first application to the FISA Court for a warrant to spy on Trump campaign advisor Carter Page. Kavalec found a number of anomalies in Steele’s story and emailed the FBI two days later about her suspicions.

Kavalec’s email, and the documents attached to it, were publicly released several months ago in response to a FOIA request by conservative political advocacy group Citizens United, albeit in heavily redacted form. The group has filed a new FOIA request to obtain the documents in unredacted form and the FBI has gone to court to prevent that from happening.

The Hill’s John Solomon, a well-connected and highly regarded investigative reporter who follows this case closely, wrote that the FBI’s strenuous fight to keep these records private is “tantamount to giving up the keys to President Trump’s nuclear briefcase, aiding the enemy or assisting terrorists.” He added that, “normally, such Freedom of Information Act cases don’t merit public attention. This one does.”

Why is the FBI fighting so hard to prevent the release of these documents? The FBI maintains, as they always do, they are concerned that sources and methods will be revealed. In a sworn affidavit, an FBI official claimed, “We know that terrorist organizations and other hostile or foreign intelligence groups have the capacity and ability to gather information from myriad sources, analyze it and deduce means and methods from disparate details to defeat the U.S. government’s collection efforts.”

In court, this official argued that “The FBI can’t afford to jeopardize the fragile relationships that exist between the United States and certain foreign governments.” He also claimed that “FBI special agents have privacy interests from unnecessary, unofficial questioning as to the conduct of investigations and other FBI business.”

FBI Director Christopher Wray has gone to great lengths to guard documents pertaining to their counter-intelligence investigation. Clearly, this information doesn’t include sources and methods or it wouldn’t have gone out to Clinton, the DNC and the media during the 2016 election season.

Solomon summarizes what this lawsuit is all about:

It’s about protecting the bureau’s reputation from revelations its agents knew derogatory information about Steele and his work before they used his dossier to support a surveillance warrant targeting the Trump campaign and failed to disclose that information to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC).

Citizens United’s president, David Bossie said, “Only through our litigation will the American people discover what the political operatives inside the Obama State Department and FBI were doing in 2016 with the fake Steele dossier before the FISA court.”

Solomon describes one of the documents the FBI is trying to protect:

It’s a five-page memo that Kavalec downloaded from Steele from an internet storage site after meeting with him on Oct. 11, 2016. She sent it to then-FBI section chief Steven Laycock, now an assistant director, two days later.

The document, according to my sources who have seen it, lays out a theory that Steele and some liberals spread late in the 2016 campaign that unusual computer pings between a Trump Tower server and Alfa Bank in Russia might be a secret communication channel by which Trump and Vladimir Putin were hijacking the election.

The theory has been written about in the media. Kavalec downloaded the file from Steele via a commercial internet download service and transmitted it to Laycock on non-classified email.

It’s noteworthy that when these documents were previously released, Laycock’s name was redacted.

Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) has seen the documents and said that “the memo is based on open source media reporting and that the FBI’s claim that revealing it would harm sources and methods is completely unfounded.”

In former special counsel Robert Mueller’s testimony last week, he said the “Alfa Bank theory is not true.”

Moreover, Kavalec transmitted this information in a non-classified manner.

Why is Christopher Wray, who became the FBI Director after all of this occurred, trying to hide this information? Solomon’s sources tell him:

It’s because the State Department included notations on Steele’s five pages of research strongly calling into question his Alfa Bank theories before sending it to the FBI. In other words, they challenged the veracity and quality of Steele’s intelligence.

Under the FBI’s human source rules, a U.S. government’s negative assessment of an informer’s information would constitute “derogatory information” that would have to be disclosed to the FISC if Steele’s work was being used to support a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrant.

Eight days after Kavalec sent Laycock her annotated version of Steele’s Alfa Bank research, the FBI submitted to the FISC an application that won the agency permission to surveil former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.

The bureau did not include State’s assessment. Instead, agents declared they possessed no derogatory information about Steele.

Wray’s attempts to stonewall requests for FBI records are becoming familiar. But the FBI has actually gone to court to fight this particular one.

Two questions.

What are they trying so hard to hide?

Is it time for Trump to think about a replacement for Christopher Wray?

An east Baltimore, MD neighborhood in the summer of 2018. Screen grab via Fox 45 – Baltimore.

Yesterday, I wrote about a series of photo tweets posted by TPUSA’s Benny Johnson that told the story of the plight of residents in some of Baltimore’s poorest neighborhoods.

The photos were startling and disturbing, and you couldn’t help but feel for the people in Democratic Rep. Elijah Cummings’s district who suffer daily from rat infestations, the smell of dead animals, unsanitary and smelly trash pile-ups, high crime, poverty, and lack of opportunity. It’s no place for a human being to live.

In spite of what up until recently just about everyone was willing to admit about the serious issues the poorest parts of Baltimore face every day, Democrats including race hustler Al Sharpton continued to hammer President Trump Tuesday for having the audacity to both criticize the problems in the district and wonder what Cummings has done in his 20+ years representing it.

Unfortunately for offended Democrats, the dire nature of the situation in Baltimore overrides their outrage. Perhaps nothing better exemplifies this than a live shot done by Fox 45 – Baltimore Monday of the impacted areas, which they showed during a segment where residents were interviewed about Trump’s “rat-infested” tweets. Here’s what happened:

Here’s how the news station described the live shot on their website:

A rat was seen running through a FOX45 reporter’s live shot during a story on President Trump’s tweet Baltimore is rat-infested.

Maxine Streicher was in west Baltimore’s Sandtown-Winchester neighborhood today to report on conditions.

In the summer of 2018, Fox 45 did a report that featured then-Mayor Catherine Pugh (D) touring the rows of dilapidated homes, and complaining of the smell of rats and dead animals. “What the hell? We should just take all this sh*t down,” Pugh can be heard saying in one part of the video:

As Nikki Haley said Tuesday, those upset with Trump’s comments should stop throwing racism accusations around and take him up on his offer of federal help. The time for talking is over. The time for helping is now.

Winners And Losers In The Democratic Debate (Part One)

Westlake Legal Group 902fd1a5-df16-4fcc-b69b-0377b6d66daf-620x317 Winners And Losers In The Democratic Debate (Part One) tim ryan Steve Bullock primary Pete Buttigieg nomination marianne williamson John Hickenlooper john delaney Front Page Stories Featured Story Elizabeth Warren democrats Beto O'Rourke Bernie Sanders Amy Klobuchar Allow Media Exception 2020

In a contest between Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Tim Ryan, John Delaney, Amy Klobuchar, Beto O’Rourke, Marianne Williamson, Steve Bullock, Pete Buttigieg, and John Hickenlooper, there was a lot of talking, a lot of responding, and a lot of… actual debating. These ten candidates met on the stage for the first of two nights of debating, and with CNN as host, it was quite the show.

The expected match-up of the night was Bernie Sanders versus Elizabeth Warren, but it turned into a free-for-all as Jake Tapper, Dana Bash, and Don Lemon did their best to put candidates on the record not just on their own statements, but in response to the statements of other candidates. CNN’s panel did a good job of getting the candidates to confront their differences with each other, making it good television and a good policy debate.

But, with all the debating and the arguing and the questioning, there were some candidates who set themselves apart. Both in good ways and in bad.

As a reminder, this is not a “Winners And Losers” analysis based on

The Winners: Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Marianne Williamson

This was billed as Comrade Sanders against Chief Grand Cherokee, but Sanders and Warren instead spent their time tag-teaming against the lesser creatures sharing the stage with them. Warren, for her part, struggled to begin with. She tried to shoehorn in an anecdote in two separate questions, resulting in the audience laughing and her snapping at them in response, saying “It’s not funny!” However, she regained our footing but didn’t really explore any new ground here. She played it pretty safe with her usual talking points without being incredibly controversial.

Sanders, however, didn’t care about taking swings and offending people. He defended Medicare For All to the death against Tim Ryan and John Delaney (the latter getting murdered in the process), and hit back against several other candidates with ferocity. Also unlike Warren, Sanders wasn’t a one-note guy. Warren went back to the trough again and again on the “The Rich Run The Country” mantra. Sanders, for what it’s worth, did talk actual policy at times and had actual ideas (whether we agree with them or not).

However, there is no doubt in my mind that Marianne Williamson is the clear winner of the night. Her job as a lower-tier candidate was to get herself recognized. She had to fight the odds and the lack of screen time that the other two winners had, and she had to stand out. She got legitimate applause, she had the most memorable lines, and she was in every way the charismatic candidate Donald Trump was in the Republican primary. Saying that what happened in Flint wouldn’t happen in Grosse Pointe and that the country is suffering from a “dark psychic force” resonated more than any other line during the debate. As of right now, I fully expect her to see a surge from this debate and make it to the next one.

The Losers: John Delaney, Beto O’Rourke, Pete Buttigieg

John Delaney was murdered on stage tonight. Bernie Sanders beat the living hell out of him, and Elizabeth Warren went in for the kill. If the Democratic Party would listen to John Delaney and Tim Ryan, they would have a better shot against Trump in 2020, but he spoke far too much sense and the progressive wing of the candidates will have none of it.

Pete Buttigieg had the most potential going into the debate, but he just hasn’t lived up to it. He ducked and dodged conflict and did not really seem to stand up for anything when challenged. It was a major letdown if you were a Buttigieg fan, because he was eclipsed by others – especially Marianne Williamson.

Beto O’Rourke? Honestly, I wasn’t sure he was still running, and after this debate I still don’t know if he’s still running. He talked an awful lot about his time spent traveling Texas to be a U.S. Senate, completely ignoring the fact that he lost that race to someone who, frankly, is nowhere near as popular as he used to be. O’Rourke still seems to think that all the press he got in that race will translate over to this race. It hasn’t, and it won’t.

The Also-Rans: Steve Bullock, Amy Klobuchar, Tim Ryan, John Hickenlooper

Of the four who were also on the stage, the only one who had a great performance was Tim Ryan. However, like Delaney, Ryan is far too moderate and far too critical of the progressive left to ever get a shot at the nomination. He was smart on the right issues and, if I were a Democrat, I’d take a closer look at him. He is probably the most effective moderate the primary has, which makes him all the more likely to get nowhere close to the nomination.

Of the remaining three, none of them did anything special. Worse than losing was not being recognizable, which is exactly what they were. Steve Bullock fought his way to this debate, only to ensure it would be his only one. Hickenlooper is somewhere between Ryan and Sanders, but is so awkward about it that I half-expected him to look off-stage during an answer and shout “LINE!” because he’d forgotten what to say. Klobuchar was worse than bad – she was forgettable. She had stale answers, a boring demeanor, and tried to force a depressing anecdote into her closing statement. It did nothing to boost her already low profile. At one point, she had to pay herself a compliment because no one else (especially her staff?) would be giving her one.

One thing I do want to say is that, despite how we normally discuss CNN here, I have got to hand it to them for the way they handled the rules of the debate. The time limits were well-moderated and the politicians were asked repeatedly to clarify answers they dodged. It was a better production than the NBC-run debates, and there was a lot more substance to be had.

Ridiculous lawsuits have become the norm during the Trump era in regards to targeting a Presidential administration. Just a few weeks ago, a judge threw out a lawsuit brought by various activists alleging that Trump was violating the emoluments clause.

While there are still quite a few outstanding, another frivolous lawsuit bit the dust today and this one was filed directly by the Democratic party.

By being dismissed with prejudice, it makes any possibility of an appeal extremely unlikely. In other words, the judge is letting the DNC know their lawsuit was garbage and never should have been brought. The idea that Trump could be sued for the actions of someone else, of which we still have little evidence showing exactly who it was, is crazy on its face.

The judge did stop short of sanctioning the DNC’s legal team, but that’s a peripheral matter.

Even this Clinton appointed judge understands how terrible the reasoning of the DNC was. By their telling, Trump was liable for sharing publicly available information and Wikileaks was liable for releasing it in the first place.

Both of those are insane contentions given the broadness of the 1st amendment. Had the DNC gotten their way here, every single time a newspaper publishes any leaked materials, they could be sued. While the press should be responsible for publishing clearly false, defamatory information, no one should want to live in a society where you can be sued for simply sharing information. It smacks of the illiberal moves New Zealand made after the Christchurch shooting.

In the end, Trump gets another win over the litigious nonsense he’s had to deal with since assuming office. That has to count for something.

Someone on her media team might want to reign her in a bit because this isn’t a good look.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez decided to sit down with a morning today show called “Ebro in the Morning,” because what could possibly go wrong? In the interview, the host naturally brings up Israel and this leads to some very ill-informed and ridiculous statements from the young Congresswoman. Perhaps worse though is what she explicitly voices agreement with in regards to the host’s words.

Transcript via The Washington Examiner. We’ll start slow.

“Now you look around the globe and you have multiple corrupt governments working together — you’ve got Israel, you’ve got America, you’ve got Russia, you’ve got the Saudis, right — all working in concert. And I bring up Israel because you’ve been vocal about Palestine, the occupation and what needs to go on there. And specifically, I even think people in Israel are trying to get Netanyahu as well,” the host said.

“I agree, I agree with that,” Ocasio-Cortez responded.

I love how out of all the awful governments on earth, this host chooses to equate the United States and Israel with Russia and the Saudis. And on what planet are the Russians working together with America? Our working relationship is essentially nil right now and it’s at it’s lowest point in decades.

Despite the idiocy of that statement, AOC jumps it to say “I agree with that,” probably not even being lucid enough to understand the logical fallacies that were just presented to her.

Then things got weird.

The host continued, “There’s a lot of young Jewish people that I know that are absolutely against the occupation and I wanted you, because often on this program, we have the freedom to address the fact that something that you know people, it’s an oxymoron, how do you have white supremacist Jews? How do you have people like Stephen Miller? How do you have these individuals who are legit aligning with racism and white supremacy, but they’re Jewish and it’s something that most people can’t wrap their brains around. But it’s a real thing and what’s going on with Israel and Palestine, while it’s very deep, it is very, very criminal. It is very, very unjust.”

“Absolutely, and I think to where we’re at as a country when it comes to Israel-Palestine is very much a generational thing. I think that when we start looking at it through that lens, a lot of this stuff starts to make sense. It’s like what you’re talking about, young Jews in Israel are sick of this.”

What the host is trying to say is clear because this is not a discussion about immigration or the United States. It’s completely about Israel and he’s positing that if you don’t support the Palestinian cause that you are a white supremacist. He even ties the two ideas together neatly by talking about “what’s going on with Israel and Palestine” directly after saying some Jews are white supremacists. It’d be ridiculous gaslighting to suggest otherwise, although I’m sure some will try.

And what does AOC do? She offers her support again for his point of view. “Absolutely” she says, agreeing with the idea that some Jews are white supremacists and that the Israeli government is run by such people in a criminal fashion.

This was bad enough that even Seth Mandel, who’s entire brand is taking a contrarian approach to most right wing complaints in politics, agreed this was bad.

Other parts of the interview also veered into stupidity. Namely, the ranting about the “occupation.” These people still don’t realize that Israel pulled out of Gaza over a decade ago. That area is completely run by Hamas, who were elected by the Palestinians.

Yet, she goes on to blame a lack of clean water on Israel, despite the fact that the only reason Gaza is somewhat livable is by the actions of the Israelis to provide them infrastructure and medical care. At one point in the interview, AOC also says the Palestinians have no choice but the riot, which sounds pretty much like an endorsement of the violence they are perpetrating.

Even past the veiled anti-Semitism, AOC’s pure ignorance of the actual Israeli-Palestinian conflict in this interview is enough to make it noteworthy.

Of course, no one outside of right wing media will mention all this because AOC is a Democrat and part of the protected class. But perhaps continuing to expose her and her gross ideology will eventually lead to more people turning against it? One can hope.

Haley, the former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, weighed in on the Trump vs. Rep. Elijah Cummings (MD) controversy on Twitter earlier today, and suggested that instead of throwing around allegations of racism, those complaining about Trump’s remarks should take him up on his offer of help:

As I noted in a prior post, Baltimore Mayor Bernard “Jack” Young (D) came pretty close to accepting the offer Monday. In a response to Trump, Young did not dispute conditions on the ground in his city, instead saying that Trump should stop “childishly” tweeting about the issue and send federal assistance instead.

Young, however, has been the only Democrat I’ve seen so far who has indicated he wants and would accept the help.

Haley, an Indian-American, received a ton of hate in the comments to her tweet from bigoted leftists who still can’t believe after all this time that she had the nerve to become a Republican instead of a Democrat who just uncritically toes the liberal line on feminism and race issues.

One particular troll got her attention by snidely claiming she was hiding behind her race. Here’s the context and how she responded:

This did not sit well with Haley, who proceeded to lower the boom:

The Twitter user attempted to double down later in response but Haley had already proved her point about him and moved on.

Look What Baltimore City Leaders Did In Six Hours; Imagine What They Could Do With Some Direction

Westlake Legal Group baltimoreViolence-620x317 Look What Baltimore City Leaders Did In Six Hours; Imagine What They Could Do With Some Direction President Trump Politics kimberly klacik Front Page Stories Featured Story elijah cummings donald trump democrats Ben Carson Baltimore's renewal Baltimore's decline Allow Media Exception 2020

Within a week of the infamous Unite the Right rally in August of 2017, Baltimore’s leaders executed their plan to remove the city’s four confederate monuments and they did so literally overnight. Crews worked from 11:30 pm through 5:30 am one night and the statues were gone.

Eliminating the statues was obviously a priority for them and they made short work of it. So, why can’t they apply that same initiative toward improving conditions in their city?

Republican strategist and activist Kimberly Klacik joined Fox News’ Laura Ingraham on Monday night. Ingraham asked her why Democrats are “doubling down on failure?”

Klacik replied, “Honestly, it’s because they don’t know how to address it.”

She hit the nail on the head. They don’t know how to address it.

Baltimore’s problems have become too big for city officials to handle. Aside from the rampant corruption the city’s politicians have become known for, conditions in the city have deteriorated to such a shocking degree that local leaders don’t even know where to begin the task of cleaning up. They need a blueprint.

Imagine if President Trump were to turn Baltimore into a test city. Baltimore is now a city in decline. But, with the proper amount of capital and planning, it can be turned around.

Directing federal funds to the city’s politicians has been tried before and did not work. The city had little to show for itself after receiving $1.8 billion from Obama’s 2009 stimulus package.

I propose that any new government spending be administered by a team of HUD employees who are trained in and familiar with urban renewal. This group would focus on the revitalization of the city and would work with the local politicians and planners to implement the changes that need to take place.

The venture would be overseen by Dr. Ben Carson, HUD’s current secretary. Carson’s personal interest in the city is well-known and such a project would be dear to his heart.

For nearly 30 years, he performed pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital which is located in Baltimore. He spoke to Tucker Carlson last night and said, when his patients who lived in East Baltimore were ready to go home, it was a real dilemma for him. These children would return to apartments which were filthy and “infested with rats and cockroaches and tics and mold and lead and I didn’t want to send them back.”

During those years, Carson was involved with projects to help the city and he has continued his work. He spoke well of Rep. Elijah Cummings and told Carlson that earlier in the day, he asked President Trump if “he would be willing to work with Cummings to bring some relief to the people of Baltimore. He said he would be happy to.”

If Trump were to work with Cummings on turning the city around, the results could be a triple win.

First, this would be a win for the city of Baltimore.

Second, if the project brought about any meaningful change to the city, Trump would benefit politically. It would help him gain support among blacks. Voters would see him as willing to work across the aisle. And Elijah Cummings’ constituents would have to wonder what he’s been doing in Washington for the past 23 years.

Finally, if the Baltimore “experiment” works, it could be repeated in other U.S. cities. Detroit comes to mind.

As the city’s leaders proved when they removed the confederate statues in six hours two years ago, they know how to get things done when they want to. From the interviews of Baltimoreans on television, it’s clear that they love their city and they’re sad about what it’s become. What could be more exciting to both leaders and residents than taking back the city they love?

And what a triumph for the President if he were to initiate it.
