Civil Rights Veteran to Tucker: Democrats Touting Reparations are Pandering, Insulting & Crippling to the Nation

On Friday’s Tucker Carlson Tonight, civil rights veteran and Woodson Center founder/president Bob Woodson stopped by to wax philosophic on slavery reparations.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a fan (here) — and not just for slavery. She seems psyched about everybody gettin’ money. Except the whites:

“People think reparations is reparations for slavery, but really, economically speaking, reparations are for the damage done by the New Deal and redlining because that is where we saw a compounding of the existing inequity from the legacy of slavery, where we drew red lines around black communities. We said white communities will get home loans and they will get access to the basic bedrock of wealth in America and this will be your heirloom and we gave white America the heirloom that appreciated overtime — that people still benefit from today and we did not give to African-American and Mexican communities, Puerto Rican communities.”

Bob thinks that’s idiotic. Or, foolish:

“I think it’s fools gold. It demeans both whites and blacks. To black America, you can monetize oppression. Also, what it does … the message to black America is “Somehow, your destiny is determined by what white people do. What white people give you. And not what you are able to do for yourself.’”

Profound point.

Who’s into the idea? A bunch of rich folks:

“[The notion’s] bandied around by people with six figure incomes living in gated communities with their children in private schools. When you go into St. Louis…where there were 19 people shot and killed over the weekend, they’re not talking about reparations as an answer to that challenge.”

And to him, it’s plumb baloney:

“[S]o I just think that it is virtue signaling for white candidates. And for some white guilty people, it’s an easy fix. But it’s very crippling to the nation.”

Tucker lobbed:

“So, hypothetically, if we were to get it tomorrow — some reparation scheme — do you think that there would be fewer shootings in St. Louis or Chicago? Or Baltimore?”

Bob laughed.

He doesn’t believe most black people are trying to get a big check from Uncle Sam:

“It’s a distraction. … When black Americans, rank and file,  [are asked], ‘What are the issues most important to you,’ it’s jobs, it’s security. … But these people on television — the candidates — pander to the black community, assume that they don’t have to speak to the legitimate needs of black America. Instead, they can just pander, and walk through the civil rights door.”

The conversation began with talk of Al Sharpton’s National Action Network conference, during which — essentially and hilariously — Al put Democratic candidates in front of the crowd and aked, “Will you give these people free money? (Pssst…say Yes)?”

Bob ain’t into it.

“It is pandering. It is insulting to black America. And as I have said, I have suffered my last rich angry black and my last guilty white person. That’s it.”

Enjoy the video — of the interview as well as Al Sharpton’s hysterical prompt — above.

The duplicitous, delusional and disgraced former FBI Director, James Comey, sent the following tweet on Saturday morning.

Political candidates and elected officials should not talk about the future prosecution of any individual. Law enforcement decisions must be apolitical.

Why would he set himself up like this by making such a tone-deaf remark? I have no words…

Here’s what some of his friends on twitter had to say on the subject:

“Just as he apolitically decided not to prosecute Hillary, and just as he apolitically decided to spy on Trump campaign. What an outstanding messenger for this message! Bravo!”

“Considering you anonymously gave classified information to the press multiple times as head of the FBI, continuing to bring attention on yourself may not be your best strategy.”

“Delete your account.”

“FBI leadership should also be apolitical but we all know how that worked out when you were in charge…”

“Oh that’s ripe…..”

“maybe sit this one out my dude”

“OMG that is hilarious! zero self awareness…this coming from the man who completely politicized the FBI.”

And then, there’s this!

I had the pleasure of living in Austin for five years, and while I enjoyed my time in Texas, I quickly came to realize that there were a number of areas where the Lone Star State did not measure up to its reputation as a bastion of conservatism.

Alcohol policy was one key area suffering from government overregulation. Liquor stores have long been banned from selling their wares on Sundays, and even beer is restricted on Sunday mornings.

Then there was the bizarre prohibition on breweries being able to sell their beer to go, directly to customers. Texas was the only state in the entire country that prohibited such sales, a thorn in the side of the state’s blooming craft beer industry. The breweries had been allowed to operate tap rooms and sell beer to customers to drink on the premises, but were barred from selling any beer directly to the customers to take home.

The restriction was the byproduct of the state’s blue laws targeting vices like drinking, and lobbyists for beer distributors and other groups that benefitted from breweries being unable to sell their own products directly. Efforts had been organized multiple times over past years — slowed by Texas’ legislative schedule that meets only every other year — but had stalled out until this past session.

A bill allowing Texas breweries to join the other 49 states and have the freedom to sell their own product finally worked its way through the various committees in the House and Senate, and successfully passed both chambers. Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) had voiced his support for the bill and scheduled a signing ceremony at Austin Beerworks, one of the local Austin breweries whose owners had been active in lobbying in support of the bill, along with other members of the Texas Craft Brewers Guild.

Abbott posted a video on his Twitter account afterwards from the Austin Beerworks brewery floor, noting that “craft brewing is big business in Texas,” but the law had previously banned breweries from selling beer-to-go.

“That is not freedom,” said Abbott, announcing that he had just signed the law to fix the situation. “Enjoy responsibly!”

The new law takes affect September 1.

Austin Beerworks celebrated the new law with several tweets of their own.

Cheers, Texas.

Now if ABW could just start distributing here in Tallahassee, that would be great.

As covered Friday by RedState’s Brad Slager, Jim Acosta’s new book — Enemy of the People: A Dangerous Time to Tell the Truth in America, in which he admits his job title’s baloney (see here) — contains an attack on Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson.

In a tweeted excerpt, Jim calls them faux machomen — which, to me, is a strange characterization.

I’ve met Sean, and “macho” ain’t the word that comes to mind. Tucker made a name for himself wearing bowties. Nothing wrong with that whatsoever; but you wouldn’t mistake the guys for lumberjacks.

And, if you understand the definition of the word, you wouldn’t mistake Jim Acosta for a reporter (again, here).

Moving on:

Tucker returned the favor of the insult on Friday in his segment on liberal media bias.

The host showed a clip of Jim and CNN’s Don Lemon “[complimenting] one another for a job well done.”

Then Tucker offered this:

“No one has ever accused Jim Acosta of being a genius. Even by our estimates, it’s pretty shocking that he is so proud of himself.”

At the end of the program, Fox News contributor Dan Bongino brought up Jim’s jab:

“Jim Acosta writes a book about — wait for it — Jim Acosta!” We are living in peak Acosta right now. This is peak Jim Acosta. This book, it’s not about The New York Times’ failure to cover the Soviet Union in the ‘50s and ‘60s. The book is literally about Jim Acosta and his experiences with Donald Trump. Tucker, I hear you make an appearance in there. He’s upset you didn’t go to summer slam with him on a bus when you saw him. I guess he wanted some physical confrontation, which is just, again, totally peak Acosta.”

Tucker pointed out:

“I don’t yell at people I disagree with personally, because I’m not a liberal.”

“Me either,” Dan replied. “It’s not personal, buddy. Get over it, right?”

In case you’re wondering, toxically masculine Sean fired back as well, via social media:

As for Jim’s book sales, while he absolutely reeks like a thousand sewers at his job of reporting objective facts, I wish him well — it’s a great undertaking to write a book. But one user provided a not-so-great sign of success:

In a promo video for his book, Jim explains, “Trump attacks the facts and demonizes the media… … We’re still going to…report the news.”

No…You’re not (here, here, here, here, and here).

Jim Carrey Releases a “Painting” of Sarah Huckabee Sanders and It’s Something

Westlake Legal Group jim-carrey-wink-SCREENSHOT-620x359 Jim Carrey Releases a “Painting” of Sarah Huckabee Sanders and It’s Something Twitter Bias Selective enforcement Sarah Huckabee Sanders Politics jim carrey Gross Front Page Stories Front Page Featured Story donald trump Disgusting democrats christian Bigoted bias Anti-Religious

Jim Carrey is losing what little bit of mind he had left.

A few weeks back, in the wake of Alabama’s pro-life bill, actor Jim Carrey decided to release a “painting” of Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey. In it, she’s presented as a baby in the womb having her brains sucked out out as part of late term abortion. Disturbing would be a word for it but ironically, it actually highlighted the barbarism of abortion despite that clearly not being Carrey’s intention.

With the coming departure of White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Carrey has decided to once against delve into politics with his “art.”

For starters, is this supposed to be good? The technique shown is reminiscent of something you’d see produced in a free art class down at a local community center. There’s essentially no talent being displayed here.

Regardless, the message of the painting is what is particularly bad. Mocking Sanders’ appearance is almost expected at this point. We’ve seen liberals do it over and over in staunch contrast to their normal rebukes of any focus on a woman’s looks. The mocking of her religion is pretty vile though. Would Carrey every treat a Muslim this way? Of course he wouldn’t because he’s a coward. Attacking a female, Christian conservative is low hanging fruit in today’s society.

There’s a bigger question to ask here though. Where is Twitter?

The new community guidelines put out by Twitter include direct harassment and religious bigotry. Yet, here’s Carrey with 56K likes on a post that clearly is both of those things. His violent painting of Gov. Ivey was also never taken down.

Now, in a perfect world, those rules wouldn’t exist and people could say what they want on Twitter. But we don’t live in that world and the rules do exist. By what justification are they pulling down even mainstream conservative thought but allow this trash from Carrey to remain and be promoted? This is why Republicans just rolling over for social media is a ridiculously stupid and self-defeating strategy. If Twitter is going to selectively enforce it’s rules based on political persuasion, they need to be made to pay a price for that. That’s part of the free market at work. Simplistically saying “but muh private companies” is a good way to ensure the total defeat of conservative thought in the public square.

Returning to Carrey, the kind of hatred being shown by him here just isn’t healthy. This is a guy who’s obviously got some deep emotional issues that need to be dealt with.

Treasury Dept. Calls NY Times Report on Delay of Harriet Tubman $20 Bills ‘Completely Erroneous’

Westlake Legal Group US-TREASURY-BUILDING-620x436 Treasury Dept. Calls NY Times Report on Delay of Harriet Tubman $20 Bills ‘Completely Erroneous’ Steve Mnuchin New York Times Fake News Monica Crowley Mainstream Media Liberal Elitism Len Olijar Front Page Stories Featured Story donald trump democrats Culture Allow Media Exception Alan Rappeport

In 2016, then-Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew announced his decision to replace the portrait of Andrew Jackson, the seventh U.S. president, with that of Harriet Tubman, leader of the Underground Railroad, on the $20 bill.

Always on the lookout for something new to criticize the President over, the New York Times’ Alan Rappeport published a story on Friday which blamed the delay of the Harriet Tubman $20 on Trump. According to Rappeport, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin announced that “designs of the Harriet Tubman $20 would be delayed until 2026 and a future Treasury Secretary will decide who’s on the face of the note.” He also suggested that the reasons for the delay were political.

Rappeport speculated that the reason for the delay was President Trump’s fondness for Andrew Jackson, who currently appears on the $20 bill.

Questioned about the rollout of the Tubman bill before the House Financial Services Committee last month, “Mnuchin noted that a 2020 rollout was improbable, if not impossible, due to daunting technical issues. Mnuchin indicated that the redesigned bill would make an emergence in 2028 with designs coming out two years prior.”

Rappeport said he had spoken to a source at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP), who wished to remain anonymous – naturally. This person claimed to have seen a “digital image of the redesigned bill.” Rappeport wrote:

The development of the note did not stop there. A current employee of the bureau, who asked not to be named because of the sensitivity of the matter, personally viewed a metal engraving plate and a digital image of a Tubman $20 bill while it was being reviewed by engravers and Secret Service officials as recently as May 2018. This person said that the design appeared to be far along in the process.

That source fueled speculation from the New York Times, which pondered if Mnuchin “delayed” the release in order to avoid conflict from Trump, who is a fan of the Andrew Jackson $20 bill.

But the Treasury Department, which oversees the engraving bureau, decided that a new $20 bill would not be made public next year. Current and former department officials say Mr. Mnuchin chose the delay to avoid the possibility that Mr. Trump would cancel the plan outright and create even more controversy.

Mnuchin has denied that.

Upon reading Rappeport’s story on Friday, Senior Adviser for Public Affairs to the Secretary of the Treasury, Monica Crowley, sent the following tweet:

The scheduled release (printing) of the $20 bill is on a timetable consistent with the previous administration. The Secretary at this point is focused on security features and anti-counterfeiting measures related to the currency. The suggestion that the process is being delayed is completely erroneous.

The Director of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, Len Olijar, released a statement saying that a 2020 release of the bill was never even a possibility. Their primary focus is to thwart counterfeiting and this has made the process much more complex. In addition, the illustration published in the NY Times was NOT a real bill. Read the statement below if interested in the details.

Olijar’s statement:

The Advanced Counterfeit Deterrence Steering Committee, which includes membership from the BEP, the US Secret Service and the Federal Reserve System, was chartered to make design and security recommendations to the Secretary of the Treasury.  At this time, the ACD Committee and BEP remain focused on developing security features for the upcoming redesign.

As technology has evolved, banknote production has vastly changed over the last three decades.  The next family of notes require new, overt and covert security features for the public, the banknote equipment manufacturers, and the central bank, to keep our currency safe and secure.  Security features also need to work in mass production.  A design can change during testing.  The overwhelming success of the redesigned $100 in thwarting counterfeiting, is greatly due to the effectiveness of the blue security thread which is a public feature (and which a design was integrated around afterwards).  That development alone of that security feature took approximately 10 years to finalize.

Moreover, BEP was never going to unveil a note design in 2020.  To keep our currency safe and secure, it is unwise to give counterfeiters a look at a potential future note far in advance of a note going into circulation.  Additionally, if the concept of a note that was made public by the government were to change during that lengthy amount of time, it would create confusion in the global marketplace, further aiding counterfeiters.

No Bureau or Department official has ‘scrapped’ anything; it is too early to develop an integrated concept or design until security features are finalized. The aesthetics or look of the note has always come after and been driven by the security features.  Everything remains on the table.

The illustration published by the New York Times was a copy of an old Series note with the signatures of former officials, with a different image super-imposed on it. It is not a new $20 note, as incorrectly stated by the New York Times, in any way, shape or form.  The facsimile contained no security features or offset printing included on currency notes.  There is nothing about that illustration that even begins to meet technical requirements for the next family of notes.

Snopes ‘Fact-Checks’ My RedState Article, Spends Most of Its Time Attacking Trump & Suggesting I’m a Jerk

Where do you go when you wanna know the truth? Snopes.

At least, that’s the word on the street. Or it was.

But what’s happened to the formerly forensic site?

In December, The Daily Caller ran the story “Snopes, Fact-Checker for Facebook and Google, Botches Fact Check.”

In March, TDC published “Snopes Gets the Facts Wrong on Ocasio-Cortez Campaign Finance Scandals.”

Shortly after Valentine’s Day, Snopes fact-checked The Babylon Bee.

Oops.

And at the beginning of the year, they fact-checked…me.

Or, at least, my article.

Back in January, I wrote my biggest article ever:Lesbian Couple Identifying As Straight Couple Prepares To Transition 5-Yr-Old Son Into A Daughter.”

That thing just wouldn’t stop. It popped up everywhere, from Reddit to AR15.com.

Just a few months ago, I mentioned the viral victory to a teenaged relative. They were stunned“You wrote that??” They’d seen it somewhere, randomly online.

If you haven’t read it yet, please do. Snopes did. And in response, rather than addressing its reality, they took to the webisphere to teach America how to be.

What was their answer to the question, “Is a ‘Lesbian Couple’ Preparing to Transition Their Son Into a Daughter?”

Well, it was — basically — “Alex Parker is a JERK.”

Their subheading: “Words and context matter when it comes to discussing marginalized groups.”

Snopes began with a very short snippet from my article, followed by three sentences summing up the family about whom I wrote and the harassment they had faced.

Then the rest of their coverage went like this:

Nothing is technically inaccurate about the quoted portion of RedState’s story, but it is worded in a way that can be read as insensitive to the plights of transgender persons. As noted, the married couple consists of a transgender man and a woman, so stating they are a “lesbian” couple negates one partner’s identity as a transgender man.

According to guidance from the National Center for Transgender Equality, members of the media should refer to transgender people according to their gender identities: A transgender man is the term for a transgender person who currently identifies as a man, while the term transgender woman refers to a transgender person who currently identifies as a woman.

It went on to attack Trump, complete with POTUS tweets. Wait — WHAT?

Although the family in question resides in Scotland, the transgender community is frequently the target of election-time flame wars in the United States over which bathrooms they should be permitted to use, and the Trump administration has also instituted a series of actions aimed at whittling down transgender protections under the law. In a series of tweets posted on 26 January 2017, President Trump instituted a ban on transgender persons’ serving in the military:

What the heck is happening??

The fact-check of a lesbian-transgender RedState article ended thusly:

The ban was upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court on 22 January 2019, in a decision that allowed the restriction to remain place while legal challenges to it worked their way through the court system. In a reversal of course from his predecessor, Barack Obama, the Trump administration has also sought to narrowly “define sex as either male or female, unchangeable, and determined by the genitals that a person is born with.”

Does that seem like the work of an objective fact-checking site?

Why must seemingly everything in the world turn political? What’s wrong with some things simply sticking to the facts? That’s what Snopes claims to do. Or so I thought.

Their homepage now advertises, “We bring you fact-checking and original, in-depth reporting.”

Sadly, they’ve become the Jim Acosta of fact-checking. And that “reporter” stinks (here, here, here, here, and here).

Jim Acosta Postures as an Alpha-Male Only to Prove He is Beta to the Max

Westlake Legal Group Acosta Jim Acosta Postures as an Alpha-Male Only to Prove He is Beta to the Max Uncategorized Front Page Stories Featured Story

Image from Twitter @Acosta

This is NOT the way to promote your book.

As many of you know, CNN’s Jim Acosta has just published a book about himself and his journalism during the Trump administration — The Enemy Of The People: A Dangerous Time To Tell The Truth In America. Jim’s entire hook has been to highlight the risky travails he has encountered in this grievously dangerous profession he has chosen — media star.

To suggest the sale of his book has been flagging is not exaggeration. The tile, which was officially for sale this week, is not scorching the best-seller lists. At Amazon it is not a top-110, nor even top-20 seller. One needs to scroll down to find it nestled at #25, a few spots below the latest release of the children’s books Dogman, and Diary Of A Wimpy Kid #14. In the sub-category Politics/Social Sciences it is at #14, in the sub-category Memoirs it rises to #13, and only ticks off the top spot in the sub-subcategory Biographies-Professional & Academic. (For the record, in a convenient act of rebuttal, Mark Levin’s Unfreedom Of The Press sits at #1 of all books sold.)

In response Acosta has been pimping his release strongly on his social media accounts. This is understandable, as you are wise to promote yourself digitally as much as you can. Yet the manner Acosta goes about doing so is — well, patently Acosta. This is the man with a deep-seated affection for himself, and he relishes any chance to inject himself into a story, going so far to even turn the reporting onto himself. But he fails to acknowledge that most are attuned to his self-aggrandizement, so his self-promotion takes on a shallower appearance.

In many of his tweets about the book he is not using quotes from others touting his work, or providing a string of glowing critical reviews about the book. Instead he is offering excerpts out of the book and his tweets are quoting passages. This means the man, who has a string of affairs with various mirrors across the country, ends up quoting himself in passages where he is referencing himself, in the book that is centered around himself, and was written by — himself. That is some next-level narcissistic inception taking place.

In one of these tweets he offers a very curious passage regarding a pair of his news rivals. In this passage, he details something that happened (or specifically, what did not happen) when he personally encountered two Fox News hosts.

Westlake Legal Group Acosta-Tweet-1 Jim Acosta Postures as an Alpha-Male Only to Prove He is Beta to the Max Uncategorized Front Page Stories Featured Story
So two bitter rivals did not create a scene in a professional setting — and that was a problem? Further, if they not confronting him was a problem then would it not be required to say that Acosta himself is also guilty of what he is accusing here? I mean, here he is writing about them directly in his nationally published book, and he never approached them to say anything specific to their faces. That is at least an equal measure of what he implies is cowardice.

Then there is the hilarity of his suggesting Hannity and the bowtie-wearing Tucker Carlson are to somehow be perceived as “macho”. For him to declare this becomes a tacit admission that he himself is a beta-male by comparison. Not that many would be surprised by this detail.

Acosta even manages to compound things with his text in this tweet. Behold the level of whining in this delivery.

Again, Jim fails to realize that he failed to say anything to Hannity before writing about him, but Sean failing to confront Jim is a cause for scorn. The laughable part is how he “offered” to come on Hannity’s top-rated program to talk about his book, the one desperately in need of a boost in sales. He comes off sounding like the Democrats, whose party has openly denied Fox News but sees its candidates desperate to have town halls staged on the top-rated new network.

But sounding like the Democrats is nothing new for Jim Acosta, even though he will insist he is the paragon of journalistic professionalism. If you do not believe him just go to his Twitter feed — he will let you know, repeatedly.

Bill Maher Rubs Their Noses in It: Following a Stunning Verdict in the Oberlin Case, SJWs Learn ‘There’s a Price to Pay’

On Friday, Bill Maher said social justice warriors are discovering that dumbness has consequences.

Dumbness = so-called political correctness.

Bill was discussing the story of Oberlin College.

Here’s what happened in Ohio, as per The Atlantic:

On November 9, 2016, three black students at Oberlin College made a late-afternoon trip to Gibson’s Bakery, a small, family-owned business near campus that has been serving the community at its present location since 1905. Like countless undergraduates of all races, classes, genders, and generations, they hoped to leave with alcohol but weren’t yet of age to purchase it legally.

A fake ID was produced and rejected.

In the moments that followed, Allyn Gibson, the owner’s son, would try to keep the fake ID, pursue the male student who had used it as he fled to the back of the store, chase him into the street yelling “Shoplifter!,” and detain him, even as the other students, who were women, attempted to intervene on behalf of their friend.

From The Daily Wire:

When police arrived, Gibson was being physically attacked by (Jonathan) Aladin and the two other students who accompanied him to the store – Cecelia Whettstone and Endia Lawrence.

All three students pleaded guilty. Aladin acknowledged race was not a factor in his treatment.

Back to TA:

A police report accused them of trying to shoplift two bottles of wine. Many classmates jumped to the conclusion that they’d been mistreated and launched protests almost immediately.

“Chants of ‘No justice, no peace’ reverberated across campus from early morning into late last night as hundreds of protesters lined West College Street, calling for a boycott of Gibson’s Bakery,” the student newspaper reported. “According to a flyer distributed by protesters, this incident was far from Gibson’s first instance of alleged racial bias.”

The boycott reportedly caused sizable damage to the business.

Fast-forward to Thursday, when the school was hit with $33 million in punitive damages.

Way to go, SJW’s.

Back to Bill, who offered this:

“Social justice warriors … are finally finding that maybe there’s a price to pay [for political correctness].”

“Political correctness” is an ironic term, of course, because it represents a very particular point of view which supports some things and condemns others — and it’s one which prefers the few over the many…which is the opposite of political.

NeverTrump conservative pundit Charlie Sykes told Bill he’s tired of it:

“I’m tired of the term ‘political correctness’. It’s like ‘performative wokeness.’ In our mono-culture, we have to find a way to humiliate, to drive people out that we disagree with, and I will tell you that there’s a huge backlash. … The folks on the Right were bailing on liberalism. … They’re basically saying that, ‘The Left wants to destroy you, they hate you, they want to take away your rights, they want to destroy your business.’ Unfortunately, you have anecdotes like this that make it that plausible.”

The host asked a good question:

“How do we get mainstream liberals to stand up to that faction?”

Bill’s long spoken against political correctness, and consistently championed free — that would be, offensive — speech (like here).

There was a time when Bill Maher was a particular opponent to conservatives. But given the Democratic Party’s move away from liberalism and further into rights-ripping leftism, he sometimes stands as a shouter of liberty-soaked reality against a cacophony of fascistic insanity.

Might he be someone who eventually Walks Away?

From the Herald Sun:

Gay New York hairdresser Brandon Straka was of the Left. Now he says it is exactly what he once opposed – thuggish, intolerant, race-obsessed, oppressive. So in a video that’s gone viral he says: “Walk away.”

Check out one of my favorite guys who walked away — Dave Rubin.

Thanks to social justice warrior goofiness, Gibson’s Bakery is walking away…with $33 million.

And Bill’s right — social justice has consequences. In this situation, perhaps it was actual justice.

See the Various Ways the St Louis Blues Stanley Cup Win Was a Victory for Everyone

Beyond some impressive stats, there were also some great backstories behind this team winning the championship.

The NHL has just completed its season with the title going to the St Louis Blues. This is the first Stanley Cup won by the franchise, after a series of finals appearances in the late 1960s during the expansion era. For the first few years the league placed all six new expansion teams in the same conference and structured the playoffs so one of the new franchises would qualify to play in the Stanley Cup. The Blues were swept in three consecutive finals, and had not made another trip to play for the Cup since.

There were a number of notable accomplishments with this squad this season. In January they sat in the bottom of the entire league, but a coaching change brought former player Craig Berube to the bench. He then chose to place rookie goalie Jordan Binnington in the net to see how the youngster would settle in for the coming seasons. He became a wall on the backline and the team rode him as it became a scoring force. In February the Blues posted an 11 game winning streak and then finished with an impressive 45-28-9 record. They were the hot team going into the postseason.

This has led to an array of milestones to be attached to the victory. They tied the record for most road playoff victories, with 10. Also they are only the third team to win 3 straight road games in the Stanley Cup. They are only the seventh team to win The Cup with a coach who was a mid-season replacement. Further, in a league that puts a priority on Stanley Cup experience, the Blues are only the fourth champion to have a roster without any former Cup winners skating for them.

Binnington becomes the first rookie goalie to win all 16 postseason games to win the Cup, and he set a record for most saves in a clinching Game 7 – 32. (To date the rookie still has only 30 career victories.) And Ryan O’Riley scored in four consecutive finals games, the first to do so since Wayne Gretzky, the first ever to have the opening goal on his team in four straight. This led to him being selected as the Conn Smythe Trophy winner for the Most Valuable Player in the playoffs. He is only the third Conn Smythe winner who was an offseason acquisition.

But many on the team may argue there is another MVP for the Blues — she is 11 year old Laila Anderson. A devoted Blues fan, Laila was a constant presence around the team’s entrance tunnel at home games. That is, until she became stricken with an extremely rare auto-immune disease. Requiring chemotherapy and treatments Laila was hospital bound for much of the season. She received a crucial bone marrow transplant in January, and her recovery matched that of her beloved team.

Players had visited her in the hospital and she developed a special bond with defenseman Colton Parayko. Laila became the team’s unofficial mascot, and in May her recovery was enough that she was able to attend her first game. From that moment forward she was a fixture at the Enterprise Center, becoming a nationally recognized aspect of these playoffs. Earlier in the week there was this moment:

She not only got her trip to Boston — she was even brought out onto the ice to join in the celebration. To really absorb the impact this young girl has had notice that these are grown men, celebrating having just reached the pinnacle of their careers, and when made known Laila was out there with them they did not even pause to include her in the revelry.

Defenseman Robert Bortuzzo stopped what he was doing to greet their biggest fan.

Alexander Steen had to be sure to celebrate with her as well.

And here St Louis native Patrick Maroon shows the genuine relationship between them and Laila.

Not only is he casually interacting here, like long-established friends, but he wanted to know if the family was joining them on the flight back to St Louis. It was not a charitable offer; he seems to act as if it was an expected occurrence. If you are even the most bitter of rivals with the team, there is no way you cannot be moved by the bonds that they have here.

Then just to add some frothy levity to it all, one of the side components of these Stanley Cup playoffs has been the rivalry that has been playing out between office mates from “The Office”. Jenna Fischer and John Krasinski portrayed one of the sweetest couples in primetime when Pam and Jim got together. One Problem: Krasinski hails from Boston, while Fischer is a devoted Blues fan.

Their rift became apparent on social media.

It came to a head when it all came down to a game 7 showdown. Jenna opened with a good-natured jab.

Then Krasinsky raised the stakes, with this devilishly perfect tweet sent from his seats inside the Boston Garden.

That was Davis Denman, who played the role of Roy, Pam’s ex on “The Office”. As classic a troll as you will find. But, of course, Jenna-Pam had the last laugh. And we had a massively enjoyable final series, for numerous reasons.
