Ted Lieu Spins Wild Conspiracy Theory To Explain Robert Mueller’s Befuddlement

Westlake Legal Group ted-lieu-j-620x317 Ted Lieu Spins Wild Conspiracy Theory To Explain Robert Mueller’s Befuddlement Wolf Blitzer ted lieu Special Counsel Robert Mueller Politics obstruction of justice Front Page Stories Featured Story democrats Congress CNN Allow Media Exception

A Wednesday’s Congressional goat-rope involving House Democrats and a befuddled Robert Mueller, the Democrats tried time and again to elicit from Mueller some new bit of information or sound bite that they could use to re-energize the push for impeachment by the radical fringe of a radical fringe party. The closest they came was when Ted Lieu questioned Mueller. Lieu walked Mueller through his understanding of how President Trump managed to obstruct justice while not actually obstructing anything. Mueller, who stares at the report of which he was allegedly the architect much as your average hog would stare at a Timex, reflexively answers “yes.” Then Lieu asks Mueller if the only reason he did not charge Trump with obstruction was the existence of Office of Legal Counsel guidance that says a sitting president may not be indicted by Department of Justice. Mueller says “yes.” This is the video cued up to that exchange:

This is significant. Because not only does the report declare that no determination was reached on obstruction, Attorney General Bill Barr testified to Congress that in briefings on the report that Mueller had on several occasions been asked if the OLC opinion was what kept him from doing his job:

[W]e specifically asked Robert Mueller about the OLC opinion and whether or not Robert Mueller was taking the position that Robert Mueller would have found a crime but for the existence of the OLC opinion, and he made it very clear several times that that was not his position. He was not saying that but for the OLC opinion he would have found a crime. He made it clear that he had not made the determination that there was a crime.

Later, Mueller corrected his statement.

Yesterday, Lieu was on Wolf Blitzer’s little show and spun up a conspiracy theory.

BLITZER: It’s a serious problem. You were at the center yesterday of one of the most dramatic moments of the hearings with Robert Mueller. You have to walk back this testimony to you in response to your questioning that the reason that they didn’t formally indict the President was because of the Justice Department guidelines, a sitting president can’t be indicted.

But you say Mueller fully understood your question. Doesn’t Mueller’s correction, which he later provided, prove otherwise?

LIEU: This is what’s so odd about that exchange. Special Counsel Robert Mueller agreed that the OLC opinion prevented a sitting president from being indicted. And then the republican member after me asked him a series of questions to try to get him to walk it back, and he did not do that. And then it wasn’t until there was a recess in the Intel Committee that he started walk some of that back. I don’t know who got to him. I don’t know who talked to him, but that was very odd what he did.

BLITZER: Well, what are you suggesting? Because he said he misspoke, he didn’t understand or whatever it was. That’s why he wanted to clarify and walk back his response to your question. Are you saying he only did that because of pressure from someone?

LIEU: I don’t know. But he clearly answered the way he answered to me, and then he had numerous times to walk that back by the next republican member who asked a series of questions on exact same issue trying to get him to walk it back. So I don’t really understand what happened.

But we all agree and even Robert Mueller would agree that there is an OLC, Department of Justice opinion that says the sitting President of the United States cannot be indicted.

BLITZER: Yes. That’s what he repeatedly said that. He was working under those guidelines.

Mueller declined to even read from his report in response to a lot of questioning from the democrats. His answers were short, sometimes stilted. Do you think he did a disservice to his report during those hours of testimony yesterday?

LIEU: I would have liked if Special Counsel Robert Mueller was more talkative, but he did say yes and true to a large number of devastating facts. He also admitted in my questioning to the first two elements of obstruction of justice that were satisfied and then on the third element, intent, I simply read from his report, and it said, quote, substantial evidence, unquote, of evidence for intent.

So, basically, it’s as if Robert Mueller says, look, here is a piece of bread. I’m putting a piece of ham on that bread. Then I’m going to put another piece of bread on the ham, and we say that’s a ham sandwich. And he goes, no, I’m not going to call it that. Well, it’s a ham sandwich.

So that’s essentially what he did. He laid out the evidence and it meets the elements of obstruction of justice.

BLITZER: The House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi, says it’s still not time to open impeachment proceedings in the House. Is this debate more about a lack of political will than a lack of evidence?

LIEU: Speaker Pelosi is an amazing speaker. I’m honored to be on her leadership team. She’s going to make this decision and consultation with the democratic caucus. And whatever decision she makes, I’m going to respect.

BLITZER: How unlikely is it that your committee, the Judiciary Committee, would launch a formal impeachment inquiry on its own without a full House vote?

LIEU: We’re not going to go rogue, Wolf. Everything that the Judiciary Committee does will have the blessing of Speaker Pelosi.

I’m going to tell you what’s going to come next. We’re going to file litigation to get the grand jury materials that we have not yet been able to see. We’re going to file litigation to compel Don McGahn to come and testify publicly before the Judiciary Committee, and we’ve asked Hope Hicks to come back and testify because she lied to us the first time that she testified.

This is nuts. What happened was pretty obvious. Mueller just gave an incorrect answer. And the technique Lieu used is one that I used frequently as an investigator for the Army’s Inspector General. Ask a series of questions that require all “yes” or all “no” answers, toss in your conclusion at the end and the subject will invariably answer the way he has before even when it carries an admission of guilt. After the break, Mueller corrected the record. The key factor here is that there was no other place in his testimony where Mueller diverged from the report in his answers.

Lieu, however, sees himself as some kind of a political wizard who elicited a game changing admission from Mueller…when no one else could…and who was foiled by unknown forces “got to” Mueller. It isn’t true. None of it.

When it comes to priorities, you’d think a person like actress Alyssa Milano who paints herself as a compassionate leftist who cares about protecting the innocent and vulnerable in this country would actually do something to prove their commitment.

Such is not the case with Milano, who on Thursday put a disturbing twist on an old, tiresome liberal argument about the death penalty vs. abortion.

2020 presidential candidate and Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) posted a Tweet yesterday noting she was prepared to take executive action if elected president on the issue of gun rights, because “thoughts and prayers are not enough”

Milano responded that she was fully on board with that idea. But another Twitter user reminded her of her support for abortion, which has killed far more innocent lives than gun violence:

The pro-abortion mouthpiece did not like that reminder, and fired back by suggesting pro-lifers were hypocritical on the issue of life by referencing the recent reinstatement of the federal death penalty by the Trump administration, and declaring that death row inmates are “actual people”, unlike unborn babies:

She was promptly called out on her phony (and disturbing) comparison by other Twitter users:

The arguments did not phase Milano, however. She doubled down in the comments:

Bless her heart.

Tlaib Calls For $20 Minimum Wage, Promptly Lists Internship At $15

Westlake Legal Group Minimum-wage-protest-New-York-620x414 Tlaib Calls For $20 Minimum Wage, Promptly Lists Internship At $15 rashida tlaib minimum wage Hypocrite Front Page Stories Featured Story Abuse of Power

The Squad was off on a tear Thursday — randomly assigned “National Intern Day” — regarding unpaid internships and how mere “experience doesn’t pay the bills”.

And remember Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), no longer content to be booted, screeching that voters are crazy, from Trump speeches, one-upped Bernie Sanders’ call for a $15 per hour federal minimum wage and demanded it should be $20 per hour.

So The Squad wants you to know they care, American workers. Except they apparently can’t put their money where their mouths are (just like Bernie, who had to cut hours to meet his unionized staffers’ demands for $15 per hour).

The Free Beacon reports:

Twitter user Taylor Mason noted the inconsistency when he tweeted a screenshot of a job listing from the online job search site Daybook. That listing, posted Wednesday, offers an internship position at Tlaib’s congressional office in D.C., paying $15 per hour. According to the listing, intern duties include communicating and working with constituents, “researching topics” for staff members, “office communications support,” “policy research and assisting staff with administrative tasks.”

The Squad likes to shame and call out and make demands and insinuate everyone’s a victim and has a right to be angry about it. But when it comes to actually implementing their policies — even in their own offices — they tend to simply fail. Full of sound and fury, still signifying nothing.

Dear American Left, We Fought a Civil War to Make You Understand You Can’t Own Minorities Anymore

Black Trump supporter by Johnny Silvercloud, licensed under CC BY-SA 2.0/Original

Imagine being a black individual in this country who, after much thought and consideration, expressed that you align more with the right than you do the left. You express your desire to pull the lever for Donald Trump in 2020 and believe that when it comes to how this country is run, you say that fewer entitlements, lower taxes, and more policing is good for the nation.

Then one morning you wake up and are informed that you’re not black anymore. You’ve been unpersoned. You hear from leftists in Hollywood and social media that your identity as a black person has been revoked!

You receive messages like this one below.

You don’t have to be black for this to apply to you either. You can be Hispanic, Asian, Middle Eastern. It doesn’t matter. Your heritage, experience and more are subject to the approval of the left.

I might just be a white guy who supports and his supported by the white patriarchy, but why is it that members of the left believe that they have this kind of power? How is it that they believe to have the authority to label who is and isn’t a valid member of this society.

Didn’t we fight a very bloody civil war to get it across to Democrats that we don’t do that here in American anymore? They lost the power to define a minority person’s worth as a citizen. Yet we’re still seeing leftists toss out a minority individual’s worth and look down on them because of who they are.

My colleague Kira Davis wrote an excellent open letter to Hollywood actress Bette Middler who did this very thing to a group of black people at a Trump rally. Middler, without knowing these men or even considering them individuals, accused them of being “blackground” figures who were paid to be seen standing behind President Donald Trump at a rally in order to make him look good.

Davis’s response was spot on:

For all of our talk about tolerance, diversity and how racist those big, bad scary Republicans were, the worst discrimination and stereotyping I ever experienced came from my left-wing brethren. It didn’t take me long to figure out that for many non-Black progressives I was not an individual…I was a box to check on their diversity list.

Ms. Midler, that is what you did with that truly thoughtless tweet – you revealed that you only see Black Americans as quotas while suggesting Trump was paying people to be quotas. Project much?

We see thinking like Middler’s come from the left a little too often, and they seem very comfortable with it. This is because they bought their own lie, hook, line, and sinker, that they are truly the defenders of the minority and Republicans are only out to, as Joe Biden once said, put them back in chains.

Hilarious, since it was the right that broke their chains and fought for civil rights.

To the left, they seem to think that as the sole protectors of minorities they know what’s in a minority community’s best interest and have the authority to tell them what is and isn’t good for them to do. How they should and shouldn’t act. What’s more, they become highly offended when a minority individual thinks individually and decides to side with the very people that they just know hate them.

With that mentality, they unperson an individual without any feelings of remorse. To them, a black person is supposed to fall into a specific box, and if they don’t, then they’re a race traitor and worthy of the worst kind of derision. Middler still hasn’t apologized for her comment despite the fact that she received an astounding shellacking for her racism.

To be clear, this is the definition of racism. It’s the idea that if a person of a certain race can’t be owned by a certain party, then they should be disappeared. The disappearing may have taken on a different meaning decades ago, but the idea is pretty much the same.

This country was based on individualism, and that should be maintained. However, too many Democrats have had, and still, have trouble understanding that minorities don’t belong to them. If a minority individual wants to vote for Trump, he has his or her reasons. People are more than their skin color and don’t have to be in one box or another.

The Real Goal Of The Mueller Investigation Was To Cover Up The FBI’s Actions Against Trump

Former special counsel’s Robert Mueller’s weakened state came as a shock to most of us as he sat before the House Judiciary and Intelligence Committees on Wednesday to answer questions about his investigation. Although he refused to answer most questions and deflected others, his testimony provided some key information.

We learned that the stated reason for the appointment of the special counsel, which was to evaluate the extent of Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election and to determine if candidate Trump conspired with Russia to defeat Hillary Clinton, was not it’s true purpose. Mueller’s refusal to address questions about the genesis of the investigation, the FBI’s actions, and the Steele dossier combined with the final report’s failure to address those issues, revealed an important truth. The Mueller investigation was about covering up the unethical/illegal actions taken by top FBI and DOJ officials to prevent Trump from winning the presidency and once elected, their efforts to sabotage his ability to govern. It was an attempt to draw attention away from the misconduct of former FBI officials including James Comey, Peter Strzok, Andrew McCabe, Lisa Page and James Baker and to cast suspicion onto President Trump.

The Wall Street Journal’s Kimberley Strassel wrote an excellent editorial entitled “What Mueller Was Trying to Hide,” in which she argues that the investigation was about protecting the actual miscreants in the collusion hoax. Strassel wrote:

The most notable aspect of the Mueller report was always what it omitted: the origins of this mess…The Mueller report authors studiously wrote around the dossier, mentioning it only in perfunctory terms. The report ignored Mr. Steele’s paymaster, Fusion GPS, and its own ties to Russians. It also ignored Fusion’s paymaster, the Clinton campaign, and the ugly politics behind the dossier hit job. Mr. Mueller’s testimony this week put to rest any doubt that this sheltering was deliberate.

In his opening statement he declared that he would not “address questions about the opening of the FBI’s Russia investigation, which occurred months before my appointment, or matters related to the so-called Steele Dossier.” The purpose of those omissions was obvious, as those two areas go to the heart of why the nation has been forced to endure years of collusion fantasy.

She points out that Mueller refused to discuss the dossier because it “predated his tenure and is the subject of a Justice Department investigation.” Both excuses are dishonest. “Nearly everything Mr. Mueller investigated predated his tenure, and there’s no reason the Justice Department probe bars Mr. Mueller from providing a straightforward, factual account of his team’s handling of the dossier.”

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) questioned Mueller about why his report failed to address these issues. His exchange with the former special counsel was one of the highlights of the hearing during which he answered all of Gaetz’ with some variation of “not my purview.”

Gaetz asked questions such as: “Director Mueller, can you state with confidence that the Steele dossier was not part of a Russian disinformation campaign?” and “Did Russians really tell that to Christopher Steele, or did he just make it up and was he lying to the FBI?”

Mueller said those subjects predated his investigation by ten months. Gaetz quickly pointed out that Paul Manafort’s alleged crimes predated him as well. “The Steele dossier predated the Attorney General and he didn’t have any problem answering questions.” Gaetz said that when Sen. Cornyn asked William Barr the same question, Barr replied, “No, I can’t state that with confidence and that’s one of the areas I’m reviewing. I’m concerned about it and I don’t think it’s entirely speculative.”

Gaetz managed to shine the light on the most fundamental truth of all. A non-verified, bogus document, paid for by the DNC and the Clinton campaign, with funds funneled through the (DNC allied) Perkins Coie law firm, whose principal hired Fusion GPS, was used to produce a hit piece on candidate Donald Trump. That hit piece was used to try to reverse the results of a lawful election. And that an investigation which fails to address the dossier cannot be considered credible.

Here is the full, five minute exchange.

The other glaring omission from the report were the actions taken by FBI and DOJ officials. Mueller, predictably, refused to answer questions on this topic as well. Strassel writes:

Then again, how could he? The Mueller team, rather than question the FBI’s actions, went out of its way to build on them. That’s how we ended up with tortured plea agreements for process crimes from figures like former Trump aide George Papadopoulos and former national security adviser Michael Flynn. They were peripheral figures in an overhyped drama, who nonetheless had to be scalped to legitimize the early actions of Mr. Comey & Co. Mr. Mueller inherited the taint, and his own efforts were further tarnished. That accounts for Mr. Mueller’s stonewalling.

Obviously, Mueller’s lack of knowledge of what was contained in the report which bore his name made it clear that he had not been “in charge” of the investigation. Strassel basically says that doesn’t matter because they were all of the same mind.

Mueller, Aaron Zebley, who oversaw the day to day operations of the probe and Andrew Weissmann:

made the calculated decision to shelter the FBI, the Justice Department, outside private actors, and leading Democrats from any scrutiny of their own potential involvement with 2016 Russian election interference.”

That’s been the story all along. Mr. Comey hid his actions from Congress; the Justice Department and FBI worked overtime to obstruct Republican-led congressional probes; and Mr. Mueller and his team are clearly playing their own important role in hiding the truth. The Mueller testimony only highlights how important it is that Attorney General William Barr is finally pursuing accountability.

Senate’s Proposed Drug Price Controls Will Harm Patients, Stymie Innovation

Westlake Legal Group capsules-chemistry-coated-143654-620x413 Senate’s Proposed Drug Price Controls Will Harm Patients, Stymie Innovation socialism Ron Wyden Price controls Oregon Iowa healthcare Front Page Stories free market Featured Story Chuck Grassley Allow Media Exception

This week, despite months of strong opposition from conservative and free-market advocates, the Senate Finance Committee unveiled their drug pricing plan containing multiple provisions allowing for still more government interference into our healthcare system.

Beyond being disappointing, these policies are dangerous, as they will immediately reduce innovation without addressing costs – all while putting our system on the slippery slope towards even more government control of our healthcare system.

Let’s look at the facts.

The Senate Finance Bill, introduced by Chuck Grassley of Iowa Ron Wyden of Oregon, includes a provision which requires the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to impose a “Civil Monetary Penalty” on drug manufacturers whose prices rise above the Consumer Price Index, or the rate of inflation. This “penalty” will be a new tax on the industry.

On its face, this sounds harmless. No one wants prices to rise.

But, put differently: this is a tax which amounts to a price control.

This is a blunt, misguided and ultimately damaging requirement which uses arbitrary benchmarks to impose what amount to price caps into our healthcare system.

Importantly, this tax does nothing to address the cost of drugs at the pharmacy counter.

Worse, price controls, such as a threshold tied to the rate of inflation, have a chilling effect on any industry. Price controls create an imbalance in what private companies expend on research and development and what they can recoup on that investment. This disparity then results in a reduction in research and development to find a new equilibrium below the government imposed cap.

In healthcare, that means fewer cures or longer delays in bringing new medicines to market.

We need look no further than Europe for clear evidence of this effect playing out. According to Milken Institute data on the global, pharmaceutical industry, “During the 1970s, the four largest European countries were responsible for 55 percent of NCEs [new chemical entities] produced by major nations. But over the decade from 2001 to 2010, the U.S. share jumped to 57 percent.”

What happened? Europeans adopted government price controls and other, Socialist policies. The result has been reduced innovation from our European counterparts and increased innovation from the U.S. market.

The same report found that in 1990 “the United States accounted for 38 percent of the total biopharmaceutical R&D spending of leading nations. However, by 2004, the U.S. share was 55 percent of biopharmaceutical R&D spending.”

These increases are also mirrored in other metrics, such as venture capital invested in new cures. In 2007 U.S. investment accounted for 68.3 percent of total venture capital investment in the life sciences among OECD nations.

The results are startlingly clear: when governments interfere in or control healthcare, markets react accordingly and reduce innovation. This means fewer new cures for patients and, in human terms, that is a result we cannot accept.

Conservatives have been consistent in calling for free-market policies which will bring transparency and competition into our healthcare system. That is the way to bring down prices.

U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex Azar has explained that the Trump Administration has three goals for its healthcare agenda as “changing health care financing, improving value and boosting public health.”

Imposing penalties based on the rate of inflation does nothing to achieve these goals. It does nothing to improve value and, due to its chilling effect on innovation, will be detrimental to public health. It does not help patients and it does nothing to address the real drivers of cost in our healthcare system.

Given these facts, let’s hope principled Conservatives stand up for the free-market and stop this further injection of Socialism into our healthcare system.

Mike Lindell of “My Pillow” Isn’t Running Against Ilhan Omar, but He Is Going to Turn Minnesota Red

Mike Lindell has accomplished many things. He’s overcome drug addiction and founded a rehabilitation network, produced the pro-life movie “Unplanned,” but is most commonly known for his amazing product “My Pillow,” which America swears by when it comes to a comfortable sleep.

Now he may become known as the guy who helped boot Rep. Ilhan Omar from her seat.

Omar, a prominent member within “The Squad” has been on the bad side of the public lately, but that’s going to happen when you refuse to denounce terrorist groups that have killed thousands of innocent Americans and consistently prove yourself to be antisemitic and racist.

Just yesterday, a video surfaced from last year of Omar saying that white men should be feared over terrorists. She also blanketed blame over all of Trump’s supporters for being racist simply for supporting Trump.

Rumors began to circulate around Lindell running for her seat, causing quite a stir.

Sadly, Lindell won’t be running for office against Omar. Appearing on Fox and Friends, Lindell said that while he won’t be challenging Omar directly, he is going to do everything in his power to turn Minnesota red, this includes booting Omar out.

From Mediaite:

“The answer is not at this time,” Lindell said. “If the Lord wanted me to run I would run, and it was like all of these yesterday I was bombarded in the news, they’re going ‘We heard you’re with run we heard you’re running.’ I would love to do it. But I’ve got such a big platform going on right now and I want to help the president help — help turn Minnesota completely red, and get right people in office to be one of the amazing states in the country.”

Lindell went on to talk about how his Christian values have played a large part in his decision making, and part of that is respecting what America is all about, something that Omar doesn’t respect. Being from Minnesota, Lindell says the state is up to some great things and would rather it not be boiled down to Omar’s behavior.

This may be disappointing for many, but perhaps it is better overall. Lindell’s advocacy for various causes has a high success rate, and if he does put efforts into turning Minnesota red, it’s possible that he’ll succeed from the background.

Freshman Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) was angry that the House Oversight Committee had voted to subpoena the private email and social media records from Ivanka Trump, Jared Kushner and other top White House officials. He berated the House Democrats for their latest “fishing expedition” and wanted to know when they would start working on behalf of the American people. Finally, Roy stormed out of the meeting.

According to Politico, House Democrats believe that several White House officials may have conducted government business over their private social media platforms which would be a violation of the Presidential Records Act.

I have to say, he had a point.

Here is what he had to say.

We’re not doing anything to stop and deal with the problems we got, with cartels managing the border. We’re sitting here in a fishing expedition for emails, alleging that we’re trying to do that in compliance with the law that’s being complied with.

In what universe is this what we’re supposed to be doing for the United States of America, for the people in this country who are watching their country racking up mountains of debt — $320 billion over existing spending levels, which would still give us a trillion dollar deficit. Well done, Congress. Well done.

Why are we doing this because they’re working with us to comply with the law to turn over information to follow what the chairman was just saying. In the meantime, while we are doing this, while we are sitting here, as I’ve pointed out before for the hour we’re going to be debating this, another $100 million of debt has been racked up. Another how many thousands of people have poured across our border. How much more control have we yielded to cartels who truly control and run our border? That’s what we’re dealing about.

And you’re going to have that kind of level of spending while we’ve got wide open borders — what are we doing for the people of the United States? I’m going to be told ‘oh, we’re protecting the law,’ [but] the law’s being complied with — when instead it’s a fishing expedition for political purposes.

Here we sit, mounting up debt for our children and grandchildren … it’s extraordinary. Wide open borders destroying communities, endangering the lives of Americans in south Texas while I get smirks from my Democratic colleagues, while there are people right now facing attacks from cartels.

Dealing with it on a daily basis and we get smirks, and we get requests for emails from people in the White House. This is the face of the Democratic Party. This is the face of your Congress today, America.

Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA), the Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, was not amused. He said, “I do just want to say shame on my colleague from Texas.”

Roy said, “shame on this body. You’ll continue to hear from me in defense of this country.” Then he stormed out of the room.

A female voice is heard saying “he’s taking his ball and going home.”

Apparently, Roy is known for being a bit of a firebrand. In other words, he’s done this before.

Kudos to the Congressman for pushing back against the House Democrats.

Watch the video.

UN Passes Resolution Condemning Israel For Women’s Rights Violations (Iran & Saudi Arabia Among Those Voting To Pass It)

The United Nations (UN) has evidently descended into some alternate universe where up is down and Israel is more a violator of the rights of women than Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan. Hillel Neuer, executive director of UN Watch, posted this tweet following a resolution passed Thursday condemning Israel for its position on women’s rights.

A piece at UN Watch explains the resolution, which saw only the U.S. and Canada dissent, in greater detail.

Iran, Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Pakistan were among members of the UN’s 54-nation economic and social council, a principal organ of the world body, who voted to single out and condemn Israel yesterday as the only country in the world that violates women’s rights.

The Jewish state was harshly and repeatedly condemned in a resolution, adopted 40 to 2 with 9 abstentions and 3 absent (see breakdown below), for allegedly being the “major obstacle” for Palestinian women “with regard to their advancement, self-reliance, and integration in the development of their society.”

The resolution completely ignores how Palestinian women’s rights are impacted by their own governing authorities—the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank, and Hamas in Gaza—nor does it mention how women are discriminated against within patriarchal Palestinian society.

Moreover, ECOSOC concluded its annual session by ignoring the world’s worst abusers of women’s rights, refusing to pass a single resolution on the situation of women in Saudi Arabia, Iran, Pakistan, or DR Congo, all of which ranked in the top ten worst countries in last year’s Global Gender Gap Report, produced by the World Economic Forum.

It becomes increasingly clear with each passing day why the images of former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley so often showed her standing alone, hand raised, looking defiant and yet somehow sad, as she negotiated the upside down reality of the UN. Haley did not let Thursday’s resolution go unnoticed on her own personal Twitter account.

Neuer called out the UN for becoming a “theater of the absurd”.

“The UN reached new heights of absurdity by singling out Israel alone on women’s rights, yet saying nothing on Iran holding women’s rights lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh behind bars, Saudi Arabia jailing and torturing women’s rights activists, and subjugating women under harsh male guardianship laws, or on Yemen denying women hospital treatment without the permission of a male relative,” Neuer said.

Snopes Just Fact Checked Babylon Bee Again and This Time It Crossed the Line

Westlake Legal Group snopes-fake-news-sites-620x344 Snopes Just Fact Checked Babylon Bee Again and This Time It Crossed the Line Snopes Rep. Erica Thomas Georgia Front Page Stories Featured Story democrats comedy Chick-Fil-A Babylon Bee Adam Ford

Normally, when Snopes fact checks satire sites, it’s kind of ridiculous and fun to laugh at. This time, however, Snopes went further than just fact-checking an article.

Once again, Snopes has thrown its super sleuths into action and made sure that the American public wasn’t at all fooled by those dastardly Republicans and their nefarious sense of humor. This time the site wanted to squash a claim that

The Bee decided to make fun of Georgia State Rep. Erica Thomas, who was recently in a bit of a controversy for claiming someone had told her to go back to her country in an altercation at a Publix, but later was found out to have been lying. Thomas even admitted as such.

In true form, the Bee wrote a satirical article about the adventures of Thomas.

The article was headlined “Georgia Lawmaker Claims Chick-Fil-A Employee Told Her To Go Back To Her Country, Later Clarifies He Actually Said ‘My Pleasure’,” and describes a similar incident to the one Thomas claimed to have encountered in the Publix, only with a funnier spin:

Georgia state rep Erica Thomas took to social media this weekend to express her disgust and outrage at a Chick-fil-A employee’s comments to her in the restaurant’s drive-thru. According to her viral Twitter post, the black state worker claims that after saying thank you for her food, the white cashier pointed his finger at her and angrily shouted, “Go back to your country!”

The Bee wrote that after Chick-fil-A did some investigating, it found out that Thomas’s claim was a total lie, including what was actually said to her and the race of the person saying it.

Clearly a comedic take on the absurdity of Thomas’s actions mixed with the meme that is Chick-fil-A’s kindness.

But Snopes doesn’t seem to understand how humor works or why it’s even a thing in the first place. Their “fact-check” article begins with one of the most elitist and stuffy subtitles I’ve ever seen on an article.

“We’re not sure if fanning the flames of controversy and muddying the details of a news story classify an article as “satire.”,” writes Snopes author Dan Evon.

Evon rated the Bee’s story as “False”…because…well, yeah.

Evon then says that the satirical website has fooled people in the past and lists a number of links to those who have been fooled by this post by the Bee in particular, forgetting half the fun of satirical sites are writing humorous fiction that drifts close enough to reality that it becomes a distorted mirror of it.

Snopes ends with making sure everyone is clear about what is real and what isn’t:

Since the line between fact and fiction here is a bit blurry, let’s quickly summarize what’s true and what’s false in regards to the lawmaker controversy:

What’s true: Georgia state Rep. Erica Thomas claimed that she was verbally assaulted by a man at a Publix store who told her to “go back” where she came from. The man admitted that he cursed at Thomas, but he denied making the “go back” remark.

What’s false: In the fictional Babylon story, the event took place at a Chick-fil-A and involved an employee, not a fellow customer.

Well, let’s all thank Snopes for doing the Lord’s work and making sure that we all know that fake comedic websites make fake comedic stories.

However, the part that makes this particular “fact-check” from Snopes really bad is the fact that they assign malicious motives to the Bee for releasing this story. Instead of taking this as a light-hearted effort to make humorous something serious — as is the Bee’s job to do — Snopes makes it seem as the Bee was doing this to intentionally spread deceit and ruin someone. Evon even takes a swipe at Chick-fil-A for no particular reason.

Babylon Bee founder Adam Ford lays this out superbly in a series of tweets.

Interestingly, Snopes does not assign motive to articles that come from other satirical sites like The Onion.

Snopes has been proven to be a left-leaning site, even going so far as to blatantly lie about some of its “facts” if it helps damage the right at all.

This time, however, Snopes didn’t just stop at lying about the facts. It assigned villainous motive to the Bee for a satirical article about a Democrat. For a site that is supposed to just deal in the facts, saying that a site had malicious intent to purposefully convince everyone that a lie was true is far beyond what its professed goal is supposed to be.

Seeing as how Snopes bills itself as a safe haven for the facts and nothing but the facts, this article is essentially claiming that it’s a solid fact that the people who write at the Babylon Bee are bad people with ill intent.

I hate to sound cliche, but I don’t just rate Snope’s “fact-check” here as false, but the entire self-professed reason for Snopes’s existence to be false.
