Minnesota hasn’t voted for a Republican for president since 1972. In 2016, Donald Trump had he closest call of any GOP candidate since Ronald Reagan in 1984 losing the state by ~1.5 percentage points. President Trump is predicting that he’ll take Minnesota in 2020 and in that quest he has an improbable ally, Minnesota Democrat Ilhan Omar. This is how Trump announced it:

Part of this is typical Trumpian bluster but a large part of it isn’t. As mt colleague, Bonchie, pointed out, Omar’s favorable/unfavorable numbers in Minnesota are in the toilet.

(BTW, I have lots of questions about this poll. Like how can she be -24 among men and -11 among women and still be +30 among Democrats? I knew a lot of Democrats were sexless drones but I never thought the number was this high.)

If this poll is even remotely accurate and Trump can force the Minnesota Democrat party, along with national Democrats, to support and defend Omar then here radical stances and anti-Semitism could easily tip the balance in Minnesota given that Minnesota has a much better economy now than it did in 2016 and Trump has the power of the incumbency.

Politico says this about the poll:

A CBS News/YouGov poll conducted last week found that while Omar has net unfavorability ratings among Americans who know her, she’s popular among Democrats and especially liberal Democrats who know her. The same poll found that a majority of Americans disapproved of Trump’s Twitter attacks on Omar and three other minority congresswomen in which he said that they should “go back” to the countries from which they came (despite all but Omar having been born in the United States).

But it seems that instances like this, in which Omar refers to Somalia as “my country” are going to make President Trump’s tweet seem less and less without basis.

Politico also touts

Following Trump’s invectives, and his singling her out at a campaign rally days later, Omar was greeted by a crowd of more than 100 people at her hometown airport last week.

They could have rounded up more that 100 people by just handing out free coffee.

This ambiguity in her national allegiance along with the original reporting done by the guys at PowerlineBlog, reporting that was shamelessly ripped off without attribution by an alleged conservative outlet, on Omar’s marriage to her brother are going to receive a lot more attention this election cycle than they would in the past because Trump is focused on Minnesota and his tweets can’t be ignored.

Majority Sees Race Relations Improving Under Trump In the South, Race Baiters Hardest Hit

We’re supposedly living under the most racist president in recent history and it’s causing a rash of racist behavior across the United States, but oddly enough, a new poll conducted by NBC shows race relations are on the rise, especially in that supposed hotbed of racism, the south.

According to NBC News, their latest poll of the south shows that as Trump’s poll numbers rise, race relations improve:

The survey of voters in 11 southern states found 38 percent said they “strongly approve” of the way Trump’s handling his job, and 16 percent who said they “somewhat approve.” That’s up slightly from a poll in September of last year, which put his total approval at 52 percent.

More Southerners also said they think race relations in their states are improving. Twenty percent said they’re getting better, compared to 14 percent in September. The number of people who said relations are getting worse dropped significantly, from 44 percent in September to 34 percent in the current poll. A plurality of respondents, 44 percent, said they’re “about the same.”

This runs absolutely contrary to the mainstream narrative currently rolling around the country. Since before he even took office, Trump was labeled as the man who is supported by hate groups of every shade. CNN’s Don Lemon even made the wildly racist claim that Trump was inspiring the radicalization of white men.

Thing is, it’s hard to claim racism is thriving when the people aren’t being racist. With race baiting leaders looking more ridiculous than ever, the public may be in the midst of figuring out that we’re not each other’s enemies after all. In fact, racism spiked under Barack Obama, who often made race an issue.

Inflaming issues around race only causes more racism to fester, and causes people to divide further apart. Racism absolutely does exist, and not just of the anti-black variety. Racism against white people is a serious problem too. However, with leaders unable to get the “white people are evil” message to take hold half as well as it used to, race relations have begun improving.

I’d say that this is a solid lesson for people to learn, but those who push the racism narrative aren’t interesting in problem solving. So long as the hatred of racism can be exploited, race baiters will continue to push the narrative that America is a race war zone.

The vileness of the left isn’t really surprising anymore, but you are still left wondering just how far they are willing to go.

On the topic of illegal immigration, we’ve seen them endorse open borders, decriminalizing of illegal crossings, and free healthcare for illegal immigrants. Those things alone are so illogical and counter productive that you’d hope it would satisfy their left-wing urges for at least a few years.

That’s not the case though. The crazy train is only accelerating, which means that the left have moved from free healthcare for illegal aliens to Illegal aliens must have access to abortion in the span of just a few weeks.

The entire premise of the article Omar is linking is that illegal immigrants, fearing deportation and not having the necessary resources, are avoiding “reproductive healthcare,” including abortions. Sure, they give a nod to pre-natal care, but we all know the real issue at play here because it’s the one most focused on.

As I wrote this morning, support for providing illegal immigrants with free healthcare is extremely low (only 33% support with a slim majority of even Democrats against). How low should one assume support for giving them taxpayer funded abortions would be? Perhaps a polling company could bother asking that since it’s being made an issue.

What makes this all especially ridiculous is that the U.S. government is about to pass an awful budget deal that puts our deficit over one trillion dollars in 2020. All parties share the blame for such a travesty, but on this specific topic, the fiscal realities show we simply can not afford to start handing out free healthcare and abortions to every person in the word who manages to sneak across the border (which Democrats want decriminalized, effectively doing away with all enforcement).

I would also be remiss if I wrote an article discussing abortion without pointing out the fact that the procedure involves killing a child in the womb. A scientifically provable, separate human being with separate DNA is being scrambled and sucked up with a hose. Democrats inexplicably support this procedure up until the point of birth now (and some even after birth). That’s pure depravity and history isn’t going to be kind to those who supported such.

But this is the modern Democrat party. Something as mundane as the Hyde Amendment, which bars federal funding for abortions and enjoys widespread support among Americans, must now be rejected or the left will savage you. Their radicalism isn’t going to stop and the most insane portions of their party are taking center stage.

New Gallup polling finds that Immigration is now considered the “most important problem” facing the U.S. In this July poll 27% identify immigration as the most important U.S. problem. That surpasses the record 22% naming immigration as the top problem in Gallup’s June polling:

The issue edged out the government, which has been a fixture at or near the top of the list throughout the latter part of the Obama administration and the Trump administration.

Race relations or racism (7%) and healthcare (7%) are the only other two issues to receive as many as 5% of mentions this month.

There was the usual partisan divide with 42% of Republicans, 20% of independents and 20% of Democrats mentioning immigration as the nation’s top problem.

The poll was conducted July 1-12, 2019 and has a margin of sampling error of ±3%.

The Gallup polling comes as Democrats were warned that the Democrats’ open border policy cedes the “rule of law” ground to Republicans and creates “the false dichotomy of America as either a nation of immigrants or a nation of laws”—making the party and its candidates appear soft on enforcement. A note to the Liberal think tank the Center for American Progress, which issued the warning, it is not a false dichotomy. Nor is it just an appearance. Rather it is the direct product of the Socialist Democrats’ decision to support open borders and special benefits like free health care for illegal aliens.

The Liberal warning was issued as President Trump continues his efforts to reform the immigration system that is riddled with “major loopholes.” As president Trump said during his reelection campaign rally in North Carolina last Tuesday:

We’ve got to straighten out our immigration laws. You know, in a very short period of time, if the Democrats would give us a few votes, we could solve the immigration problem and it would be so great.

We almost accomplished immigration reform in 2006. Senate Republicans reached a compromise on the status of millions of illegals in the U.S. The compromise would have treated illegal aliens differently based upon the length of time they have been in the U.S. But According to the Associated Press and Eleanor Clift the Democrats, led by Sen. Schumer, wanted a political advantag0e more than they wanted immigration reform.

AOC: U.S. Must Provide Lifelong Mental Healthcare Services To Migrant Children Because Of Trauma We Have Caused

Westlake Legal Group AOC3-620x408 AOC: U.S. Must Provide Lifelong Mental Healthcare Services To Migrant Children Because Of Trauma We Have Caused migrants immigration Illegal Immigrants Front Page Stories Featured Story AOC Allow Media Exception

AOC held a town hall event on immigration in Queens, NY on Saturday.

The young Congresswoman believes the U.S. government must make a “lifelong commitment” to provide mental healthcare services to migrant children. The reason? Because of the lifelong trauma we inflict upon them when we separate them from their parents at the border. AOC told the crowd:

Even if you separate a kid from their parents for two days you have already created life long lasting trauma.

And there are children who have been separated that we have reunified, and it took about a year to reunify some of these kids with their parents. Lifelong trauma for which we, the United States, are responsible.

And it chills me to my core to think about 20 years from now, when these kids grow up, the story that they will have about America. That is exactly why we cannot allow this administration to define immigration policy within the United States.

She also believes that a 9/11-style commission should be appointed to “find out every detail of what happened.” Here’s what she said:

This is something that I think is going to have to take a 9/11-style commission.

When there is a Democratic Senate and a Democratic presidency, Ocasio-Cortez said, the government should convene a special commission into child separation, aiming to reunify as many children as possible and to find out every detail of what happened.

It would work just like the 9/11 commission did when they said what went wrong?

The 9/11 commission, they were charged with the investigating and making sure they dug out every nook and cranny of what happened and how it happened in our system. And I think that that kind of study is what’s going to be required in order to reunite as many children with their parents as possible. That’s the work that we have to do.

AOC is correct that some of these children will sustain psychological damage as a result of being separated from their parents at the border.

However, I strongly disagree that the U.S. government is at fault. America has not invited these migrants. They’ve been told not to come. They are well aware of U.S. immigration laws and practices. In fact, they are the same as they were during the Obama administration.

Many of them have been offered asylum in Mexico, but choose to continue their journey to the U.S. border regardless. Migrants know what will happen before they arrive. They know what the conditions will be if they are caught, but choose to put themselves and their children at risk anyway.

Furthermore, if AOC is so concerned about conditions in these facilities, why were she and her pals the only four members of Congress to vote against an aid package to improve them?

The responsibility for the mental health of migrant children belongs to their parents, who have made the decision to break the law.

We don’t need a 9/11-style commission to figure it out.

Cuban Democrat Accused of Racism by Democratic Ga. Rep. Erica Thomas Considers Filing a Defamation Suit

Ga. State Rep. Erica Thomas (D) and Georgia resident Eric Sparkes (D). Screen grab via WSB-TV.

The Georgia man accused of racism and “verbal assault” by Democratic state lawmaker Erica Thomas is fed up with the controversy and is considering filing a defamation lawsuit against her.

CBS 46 reports:

In a statement Monday, Eric Sparkes told CBS46 he’s “in the process of exploring with attorneys a defamation lawsuit against her.”

The argument happened Saturday at a Publix in Mableton. Sparkes claims he simply pointed out to a shopper, whom he says he didn’t recognize as a state lawmaker, that she had too many items in the lane designated for shoppers with 10 items or fewer.

State Rep. Erica Thomas acknowledges she had too many items, but she said she explained to the man that she’s 9-months pregnant and has trouble standing for long periods of time. Both Thomas and Sparkes admit they exchanged words and both left the store.

[…]

After Thomas’s [Monday] news conference, Sparkes sent CBS46 the following statement:

“Ms. Thomas has taken an innocuous situation that began on my part to be about being inconsiderate and turned into a national case about race over night. Ms. Thomas accuses me of telling her to go back to wherever. Those words were never spoken. She backtracked slightly and now is changing her story. I am in the process of exploring with attorneys a defamation lawsuit against her.”

Thomas appeared at the Publix location on Saturday to talk about the alleged incident to reporters, but Sparkes – who says he is a Cuban Democrat – decided to show up, too, and things got heated:

During that interview with WSB-TV, Thomas backtracked on a key claim she initially made about what was said:

With the TV cameras rolling, Thomas repeatedly accused Sparkes of telling her to “go back” — and he denied using that language and said he was a Latino Democrat. In a subsequent interview with Channel 2 Action News, Thomas seemed to hedge her remarks.

“I don’t want to say he said, ‘Go back to your country,’ or ‘Go back to where you came from.’ But he was making those types of references is what I remember,” she told the station.

Watch:

In a Monday presser, Thomas denied backtracking on her statement in any way, but comparison videos of how her story has evolved tell a different story:

Thomas’s attorneys have called on Publix to release any and all videos of the incident. The videos reportedly do not have audio.

PolitiFact Clowns Itself by Calling Right’s Claim that AOC Was Crying Over an Empty Parking Lot “False”

Westlake Legal Group AOC3-620x408 PolitiFact Clowns Itself by Calling Right’s Claim that AOC Was Crying Over an Empty Parking Lot “False” viral road Politifact Politics photo parking lot Media Front Page Stories Featured Story False Narrative democrats AOC Allow Media Exception Alexandria Ocasio-Cotez

A neat thing that PolitiFact does to help create a narrative is labeling minute things that the right claims as “false,” while completely ignoring the overall story.

A solid instance happened on Monday when PolitiFact decided to tackle the viral image of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez crying behind a gate at the injustices she saw beyond it. Only photos showed that she wasn’t crying over the plight of children or migrant families, it was literally an paved, empty space. It was one of the biggest jokes on AOC by AOC.

For all intents and purposes, the fervor around the photos had worn down because a joke is only funny for so long. For some reason, however, PolitiFact still isn’t over it, and wanted to rate the right’s claim about it.

Well…they wanted to rate part of it.

PolitiFact rated the claim by the right that AOC was crying over a parking lot as “False” because she wasn’t crying over a parking lot, it was a road:

A viral image of Ocasio-Cortez at a 2018 demonstration at a Texas town on the U.S.-Mexico border includes the caption, “AOC weeps over empty parking lot.”

Photographers at the scene who took photos of Ocasio-Cortez say she was not facing a parking lot. Rather she was just beyond the port of entry for the Tornillo facility, and she standing on a road that led to the Tornillo tent complex, which was in the line of her gaze, as she stood at the fence. Pictures by other outlets also confirm the location.

We rate this claim False.

Well, thanks be to our benevolent information distribution overlords. With this information in hand we now know that the right are a bunch of lying liars with lie about everything. Telling us she was staring at a parking lot when it was really a road. How vile.

Just a reminder, this is the same PolitiFact that wanted to remind you that memes aren’t real, like the kind you see of Joe Biden photoshopped into kissing women from behind.

Here’s the kicker, however. Whether they meant to or not, PolitiFact is misleading people. Many people may see the headline and decide right off the bat that the claim that AOC was crying over nothing is false and reaffirm that what she saw was horrific, thus making her a more credible source in their minds.

PolitiFact is splitting hairs. So what if it was a road and not a parking lot? That’s a difference that could be hashed out in a Twitter thread by randoms arguing over semantics, but for a website supposedly dedicated to routing out the truth, this seems like a minor point to put focus on. That they spent time on it at all seems a bit weird till you read the headline they used.

“No, this isn’t a photo of Alexandria Ocasio Cortez crying over a parking lot,” it says in big, bold letters.

They’re not wrong, but it’s a bit vague on the point. Anyone reading the headline may walk away with the impression that AOC was actually crying over something substantial. They don’t need to click and read, they have all the information they need.

And that, folks, is how a false narrative is fostered.

Video: Police Hit with Buckets of Water by Civilians, but are Too Scared to Take Action Due to Anti-Police Politicians

The brave men and women who put on uniforms everyday have to deal with a lot of things daily that we civilians don’t have to. The things they see and hear, and the problems they have to solve are highly stressful.

It makes it even more stressful when the community you’re protecting and serving doesn’t respect you thanks to an endless stream of anti-police messaging from the people in charge of those communities. This is exactly what the NYPD has to deal with on a daily basis, and the effects it has can be seen in a set of videos in circulation.

As you can see, a couple of police officers are being doused with buckets of water being thrown at them by civilians. At one point, as the officers are walking away, taking no action, a man runs up and dumps water directly on top of the head of one of the officers.

The video was highlighted by the NYPD Police Benevolent Association, the union that looks after these officers. The union made sure everyone who saw the video knew exactly why this was happening, and why the police were doing nothing about it.

“Our anti-cop lawmakers have gotten their wish: the NYPD is now frozen,” said NYC PBA. “It’s not the fault of these police officers. It’s the end result of the torrent of bad policies and anti-police rhetoric that has been streaming out of City Hall and Albany for years now.”

In another video, you can see an officer making an arrest as water is thrown on him.

At some point in time, an empty bucket is thrown at the officers head. The NYPD Chief of Police Terence Monahan spoke out against these actions by civilians.

“The videos of cops being doused with water and having objects hurled at them as they made an arrest in is reprehensible,” tweeted Monahan. “NYC’s cops & communities have made remarkable progress — together — but EVERY New Yorker MUST show respect for our cops. They deserve nothing less.”

It’s sad to see how these officers are treated, but it’s even worse to see them forced to take abuse without any recourse. What’s more is that simply walking away from bullying only encourages more bullying, and it may only elevate. It starts with buckets of water, but it may end with worse things being thrown at them.

But this is what happens when politicians with anti-police sentiment make the decisions. The people who protect society are effectively hogtied, and when the thin blue line looks impotent or scared to move, then the elements that line was holding back will become emboldened. This won’t just be a problem police officers have to deal with, the but the society in general.

New Poll Tests Support for Reparations and Open Borders, Here’s How That Went

Westlake Legal Group ap-illegal-minors-at-border-620x358 New Poll Tests Support for Reparations and Open Borders, Here’s How That Went reparations poll Politics open borders Majorities Front Page Stories Front Page Featured Story democrats Decriminalizing the Border common sense axios against 2020

A group of immigrants from Honduras and El Salvador who crossed the U.S.-Mexico border illegally are loaded on to a van, Wednesday, June 25, 2014, in Granjeno, Texas. At least six local, state and federal law enforcement agencies patrol the five mile zone which is illegal immigration’s busiest corridor. (AP Photo/Eric Gay)

Almost a month ago, the Democrats had their first debate on MSNBC. It was everything you’d expect, with every major player supporting every crazed liberal policy you could think of.

While we saw all of the candidates endorse free healthcare for illegal immigrants, presumably because we aren’t already in enough debt, there were two other issues that have become litmus tests for the Democratic primary as well. That being reparations for descendants of slaves and decriminalizing illegal border crossings, which is defacto open borders.

Common sense would tell you those positions can’t be very popular with the average American and common sense would be right.

Support for reparations clocks in at only 27%. Other Democrat policy proposals like free healthcare for illegal immigrants also don’t fare well. Only 33% support such a program. Even less support a basic income of $1000 a month, clocking in at only 26%.

As I wrote several months ago, I believe the case for reparations is simply not there. You’d be punishing people who had nothing to do with slavery to reward people who were not even alive at the time of slavery. It’d cause incredible resentment and civil unrest, which is the opposite of what reparations is supposed to accomplish.

Other progressive staples, like healthcare for illegal immigrants, just make no sense at all. If you start offering everyone who’s not a citizen free healthcare benefits, it will serve as a magnet for people to cross illegally. Couple that with decriminalizing illegal border crossings and you have no sovereignty left. To some that may seem compassionate, but it’s not compassionate to accelerate the bankrupting of the United States, which would ultimately hurt the entire word in unfathomable ways.

Here’s the specific numbers on the issues dealing with the border.

If you turn illegal crossings into just a ticket and release into the interior, that’s open borders. Democrats and the media may screech at that description, but it’s simply truth. In fact, many of the Democrat presidential candidates, including all the top tier, endorsed the idea that they would not deport people who only crossed the border illegally. Again, that can only be described as open borders.

Of course, this poll isn’t all good news for Republicans. The “Green New Deal” still manages to clock in at a 63% support. That’s likely because no one actually knows what it really entails and when you ask people if they want to help the environment, they tend to respond in the affirmative. Medicare for All gets 70% support, which is again misleading, as other polls show majority against when it’s revealed to them that their taxes will have to go up. NPR chose not to include that fact for obvious reasons. Still, it’s disconcerting that so many American voters can be bought off by offering them “free” stuff they think they won’t have to pay for. That won’t end well for the nation.

Background checks for guns also comes in at 89% support, which isn’t surprising since we already have those so problem solved I guess.

What this poll does show is that several major Democrat policy platforms are deeply unpopular with the American people and it’s only been one debate. Does anyone doubt they won’t move even further to the left as the next dozen or so slap fights take place?

Washington investigative reporter John Solomon reveals that a mere two weeks after the Special Counsel’s appointment, over-zealous prosecutor Andrew Weissmann, made a bold but secret offer to the American attorneys for Ukrainian oligarch Dmitry Firtash. According to Solomon, the essence of the offer was: “Give us some dirt on Donald Trump in the Russia case, and Team Mueller might make his 2014 U.S. criminal charges go away.”

In 2014, Firtash was indicted by the Chicago U.S. Attorney’s office on bribery and corruption charges in India related to a U.S. aerospace deal. The indictment followed a 13-year DOJ investigation. Firtash has remained in Austria for the past five years as he fights extradition to the U.S.

Solomon writes that details of this never before reported offer were confirmed to him by “multiple sources with direct knowledge, as well as in contemporaneous defense memos” he has read.

The timing of this news couldn’t be better, given that Robert Mueller is expected to testify before two House committees on Wednesday.

Although there is nothing extraordinary about a prosecutor offering a deal to the subject of an indictment, Solomon’s sources have said this particular “overture was wrapped with complexity and intrigue far beyond the normal federal case.”

First, several days before the offer was made, FBI agent Peter Strzok had sent the text heard around the world which said, “there’s no big there there.” This text indicates that, two weeks in, investigators had no “smoking-gun evidence against Trump in the Russia case because the Steele dossier — upon which the early surveillance warrants were based — was turning out to be an uncorroborated mess.”

At the same time, Solomon wrote:

Key evidence [against Firtash] was falling apart. Two central witnesses were in the process of recanting testimony, and a document the FBI portrayed as bribery evidence inside Firtash’s company was exposed as a hypothetical slide from an American consultant’s PowerPoint presentation, according to court records I reviewed.

In other words, the DOJ faced potential embarrassment in two high-profile cases when Weissmann made an unsolicited approach on June 4, 2017, that surprised even Firtash’s U.S. legal team.

Next, even for Weissmann, the overture was thought to be “audaciously aggressive.”

Firtash’s attorneys shared several memos with Solomon which provided details about Weissmann’s communications with their team. One memo indicated Weissmann had claimed they could “resolve the Firtash case and neither the DOJ nor the Chicago U.S. Attorney’s Office could interfere with or prevent a solution, including withdrawing all charges. The complete dropping of the proceedings … was doubtless on the table.”

Firtash’s attorneys were skeptical of Weissmann’s authority to make the charges go away. Mueller was a special counsel, as opposed to an independent counsel, which meant he answered to the Attorney General.

Finally, Firtash’s attorneys were surprised by “how much Weissmann communicated to them about his hopes for the Ukrainian oligarch’s testimony.” Solomon explains:

Prosecutors in plea deals typically ask a defendant for a written proffer of what they can provide in testimony and identify the general topics that might interest them. But Weissmann appeared to go much further in a July 7, 2017, meeting with Firtash’s American lawyers and FBI agents, sharing certain private theories of the nascent special counsel’s investigation into Trump, his former campaign chairman Paul Manafort and Russia, according to defense memos.

For example, Firtash’s legal team wrote that Weissmann told them he believed a company called Bayrock, tied to former FBI informant Felix Sater, had “made substantial investments with Donald Trump’s companies” and that prosecutors were looking for dirt on Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner.

Weissmann told the Firtash team “he believes that Manafort and his people substantially coordinated their activities with Russians in order to win their work in Ukraine,” according to the defense memos. And the Mueller deputy said he “believed” a Ukrainian group tied to Manafort “was merely a front for illegal criminal activities in Ukraine,” and suggested a “Russian secret service authority” may have been involved in influencing the 2016 U.S. election, the defense memos show.

Weissmann’s private observations and sharing of prosecutor’s theories went beyond what prosecutors normally do in proffer negotiations and risked planting ideas that could lead the witness to craft his testimony, according to legal experts I consulted.

Firtash’s attorneys told Solomon they had rejected the offer because their client simply did not have “credible information or evidence on the topics Weissmann outlined.”

As mentioned previously, Firtash has been fighting extradition to the U.S. from Austria for five years and last month, an Austrian court ruled against Firtash.

Firtash’s team has taken the fight up a notch. They have now presented information about Weissmann’s offer to the court as potential defense evidence that the DOJ’s prosecution is flawed by bogus evidence and political motivations. According to Solomon:

In a sealed court filing in Austria earlier this month, Firtash’s legal team compared the DOJ’s 13-year investigation of Firtash to the medieval inquisitions. It cited Weissmann’s overture as evidence of political motivation, saying the prosecutor dangled the “possible cessation of separate criminal proceedings against the applicant if he were prepared to exchange sufficiently incriminating statements for wide-ranging comprehensively political subject areas which included the U.S. President himself as well as the Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Austrian officials suddenly reversed course last week and ordered a new, lengthy delay in extradition.

That new court filing asserts that two key witnesses, cited by the DOJ in its extradition request as affirming the bribery allegations against Firtash, since have recanted, claiming the FBI grossly misquoted them and pressured them to sign their statements. One witness claims his 2012 statement to the FBI was “prewritten by the U.S. authorities” and contains “relevant inaccuracies in substance,” including that he never used the terms “bribery or bribe payments” as DOJ claimed, according to the Austrian court filing.

That witness also claimed he only signed the 2012 statement because the FBI “exercised undue pressure on him,” including threats to seize his passport and keep him from returning home to India, the memo alleges. That witness recanted his statements the same summer as Weissmann’s overture to Firth’s team.

Somehow, after witnessing the FBI’s treatment of General Michael Flynn and others, it’s not difficult to believe they would engage in such heavy-handed tactics.

Additionally, the Firtash team presented “evidence of alleged prosecutorial wrongdoing.” A key document provided by the DOJ which they claimed was proof of Firtash’s guilt was actually “created by the McKinsey consulting firm as part of a hypothetical ethics presentation for the Boeing Co. and had no connection to Firtash’s firm.”

Moreover, McKinsey claims in an official statement that it had no knowledge of a bribery scheme by Firtash, and the PowerPoint’s use of the phrase “bribery payments” never came from Firtash or his company and were, instead, hypothetical “assumptions by McKinsey about standard business practices in India,” according to the new Austrian court filing.

Firtash’s attorneys told Solomon they had informed Weissmann about this document in 2017, however, he minimized its importance and never notified the Austrian court. “The document was never withdrawn as evidence, even after the New York Times published a story last December questioning its validity.” One of Firtash’s attorney wrote to Solomon:

Submitting a false and misleading document to a foreign sovereign and its courts for an extradition decision is not only unethical but also flouts the comity of trust necessary for that process where judicial systems rely only on documents to make that decision. DOJ’s refusal to rescind the document after being specifically told it is false and misleading is an egregious violation of U.S. and international law.

Firtash’s experience with Andrew Weissmann, although unethical, is not a bombshell. Nor is it a surprise. It is simply one more questionable act in Weissmann’s long history of improper prosecutorial misconduct.

Still, it should be brought up during Mueller’s testimony on Wednesday to show the American people how Weissmann operates and just how politically driven and corrupt the Special Counsel investigation has been.
