An American Soldier Protests Nike’s Betsy Ross Sneaker Recall in a Very Special Way

As I covered previously, Nike recently recalled a shoe that’d already been sent to stores after former professional football player Colin Kaepernick suggested the Betsy-Ross-flag-adorning footwear could be considered unwokefully racist (here).

So history, ya gotta go.

But one military man is protesting the protest.

Appearing on Fox & Friends, retired marine Johnny “Joey” Jones told the hosts:

“You don’t get to control the narrative on everything that is a symbol to this country.”

“Colin Kaepernick presented this opportunity to me on a silver platter,” he explained.

That “opportunity” was the chance to immortalize the famed Bugs-Bunny-featured flag…on his bicep.

The two men do have one thing in common.

As reported by The Wallstreet Journal:

After images of the shoe were posted online, Mr. Kaepernick, a Nike endorser, reached out to company officials saying that he and others felt the Betsy Ross flag is an offensive symbol because of its connection to an era of slavery.

As indicated above, Joey considers it a symbol, too:

“That flag is absolutely a symbol. It’s a symbol of what people can do in this country. Even in times when they feel oppressed, they can rise above, have a direct impact.”

BOOM!

It wasn’t Joey’s first time on Fox — enjoy the segment below, on why veterans loved candidate Trump. And don’t miss Bugs.

Here’s something you don’t hear every day.

Magic Mike star Matt Bomer is married to a man. And the couple have three sons, the oldest of whom — Kit — is 14.

Amid an appearance on RuPaul’s talk show, the usually-private actor opened up.

And RuPaul — who’s a super nice guy, by the way — asked Matt: What if his kids were to come out to him…as straight?

As it turns out, Kit has indeed done that very thing.

Matt told Ru:

“Our oldest came out to us as straight. He’s 14. He said, ‘I love and respect that you guys are who you are. I’m straight, that’s how I identify.’ And it was a big, nice, sweet moment.”

Ru jokingly replied, “Give him time, Matt. Give him time.”

Matt added that, as for their 11-year-old twins, Henry and Walker, “We would be there with open arms” regardless of their sexual identity.

Matt came out as gay in 2008, though he already had a family at that point.

Times are certainly changing. In days past, straight was considered the default. Now it seems there’s a bit more of an attitude of “either way, just as likely.”

Apropos, MTV’s dating show, Are You the One? recently changed its format to a bisexual free-for-all — see much more here.

We’re not in 1990 anymore, Toto.

CIA Prepares the Blame the Consultant Excuse for Screwing the Pooch With the Steele Dossier

Westlake Legal Group angry-man-pointing-finger-620x413 CIA Prepares the Blame the Consultant Excuse for Screwing the Pooch With the Steele Dossier Steele dossier Special Counsel Russia Politics joseph mifsud John Brennan Government george papadopoulos Front Page Stories Featured Story donald trump democrats cia Christopher Steele Allow Media Exception

Image by ashish choudhary from Pixabay

Just a couple of weeks ago I posted about what seems to be an incipient outburst of fecal incontinence at the CIA dealing with anything that happened to touch the Steele Dossier, that shameful, manufactured collection of fables that was used to develop the pretext for the Mueller investigation and whose major bureaucratic patron was former CIA director, and hopefully felon-in-waiting, John Brennan.

In that post, the CIA’s go-to guy at the Washington Post tries to paint a picture of Joseph Mifsud, the guy who someone dragged hapless George Papadopoulos into the affair and tried to paint him as a conduit between the Trump campaign and Moscow, as someone who any reasonable person could mistake for a Russian agent of influence…so long as no one really bothered to look. Some of my observations:

Here is a picture of Mifsud standing by a member of the UK Joint Intelligence Committee.

Read her bio.

One would note, going back to the comment by Steve Hall, that Smith and Mifsud were both on faculty at University of Stirling at the same time.

Devin Nunes has the best summary:

If Mifsud was a suspected Russian agent, then allowing him the access to the venues where he regularly appeared is a scandal of epic proportions.

The best interpretation of this article is that the CIA knows Mifsud’s exposure as an agent of a Western intelligence agency is going to happen. Then they are going to be left to explain how bogus information fed to Papadopoulos by a friendly intelligence agency was used to bolster the case for a special counsel to investigate a sitting president. There probably isn’t a real good explanation beyond what is here in the article, which is “well, we thought he looked fishy” and hoping that no one notices the very real coincidences that connect Mifsud and friendly intelligence agencies.

And there are these additional angles:

Today, a story by my colleague, Elizabeth Vaughn, on how people who previously refused to cooperate with the investigation of DOJ IG Michael Horowitz were now cooperating and that the main figure was from Department of State.

Speculation is that just as Samuel Johnson observed, “when a man knows he is to be hanged in a fortnight, it concentrates his mind wonderfully,” when a reluctant witness in an IG probe knows that a prosecutor will force them to testify, it serves to focus his attention on important matters…like not being indicted.

Elizabeth’s post tugged at a story that I was trying to write last week because it was unusual, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on what was unsettling.

If you’ve been in government or in big business you are familiar with upper management deciding their own subordinates are as dumb as a bag of clawhammers (studiously ignoring who promoted and mentored them) and bringing in a consultant that is frequently unfamiliar with your business processes or corporate culture or the history of how some management and staff relationships came to be and letting them “fix” things. Often these consultants are staffed with very smart people but they don’t get paid to listen, they get paid to make changes. Many of these firms seem to have a template approach to solving problems depending upon what the newest fad in business management circles is. Changes imposed from the outside rarely last and only occasionally produce positive results. But they do one useful thing, they provide cover for failing management because the departed consultant’s findings can be blamed by upper management for performance downturns.

The story in question was from Politico (which, when it isn’t going full metal OrangeManBad does decent reporting) headlined: Spies fear a consulting firm helped hobble U.S. intelligence.

These insiders said the efforts have hindered decision-making at key agencies — including the CIA, National Security Agency and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.

They said McKinsey helped complicate a well-established linear chain of command, slowing down projects and turnaround time, and applied cookie-cutter solutions to agencies with unique cultures. In the process, numerous employees have become dismayed, saying the efforts have at best been a waste of money and, at worst, made their jobs more difficult. It’s unclear how much McKinsey was paid in that stretch, but according to news reports and people familiar with the effort, the total exceeded $10 million.

In each case, bureaucratic changes that slow response time or hamper intelligence collection capabilities could cause the loss of company secrets, private government data, the democratic process and even American lives. Already, some projects at the NSA have been cut or delayed as a result of disgruntled employees leaving the agency.

“At CIA, they shattered longstanding structural constructs that people had invested their whole careers in,” said Larry Pfeiffer, a 32-year intelligence veteran who now serves as the director of the Michael V. Hayden Center for Intelligence, Policy and International Security at George Mason University. It resulted in “a coordination nightmare” widely considered to be “very heavy-handed,” added Pfeiffer, who left government before the restructuring but remains in close contact with current officials.

Pfeiffer said he doesn’t know “a soul at CIA or NSA who would tell you that the reorganizations have made things better.”

“That’s exactly what happened,” a former CIA operations officer said.

Why, you might ask, would an intelligence agency advertise to the world that a retooling of the intelligence community failed miserably? Wouldn’t that be something you’d keep to yourself? And why, even though Congress was allegedly notified, is this story based on leaks from the CIA rather than Adam Schiff? I understand people being upset at having their world changed but why make this complaint public after the consultant has already pocketed the money and is laying on a beach somewhere sipping fruity drinks with umbrellas and planning their next foray?

My theory is that if you read my earlier post and Elizabeth’s post and this article together, the common thread is Attorney General Bill Barr’s designated cleaner, US Attorney for Connecticut John Durham, mounting a serious investigation to find out just how the f***ity-f*** that the Steele Dossier was shopped about government, briefed to the president, used to justify as many as four FISA warrants on Carter Page, and became the focus of the lynch mob led by Robert Mueller.

You have two things happening.

First, players not actively involved in the whole play engineered, I think, by Brennan, are seeing that it is to their advantage to be not only on the right side of history but the right side of Horowitz and Durham. These people who had refused to cooperate out of some sense of personal loyalty, or loyalty to the Obama legacy, or because they are totally down with the #Resistance are now reluctant to be bankrupted by becoming targets of a federal investigation.

Second, you have the institutions involved cobbling together excuses for why they behaved as they did. In this case the CIA is saying that because a consultant screwed up traditional lines of coordination, that it was easy for Joseph Mifsud to be mistaken as Russian agent of influence and that his long standing ties to Western Intelligence services overlooked because the people familiar with Mifsud were no longer involved. The same reorganization could have prevented warning flags from going off over the Steele Dossier because of staff and organization changes.

Bottom line is, yes it happened but it really isn’t our fault seems to be the line of defense.

The Problem With Joe

Westlake Legal Group biden-pointing-620x317 The Problem With Joe Trump Joe Biden Front Page Stories Featured Story elections campaign season 2020 Democrats

Former Vice President Joe Biden mimics shooting a gun as he speaks at the Chuck Hagel Forum in Global Leadership, on the campus of the University of Nebraska-Omaha, in Omaha, Neb., Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019. (AP Photo/Nati Harnik)

I’ve always believed President Obama was never really a big fan of Joe Biden. The Democrats and powers-that-have-been saddled him with Biden as a way to add some “gravitas” to the then-young, inexperienced senator’s campaign. I wondered if Obama felt resentment about having to have this “old guard” white man alongside him in order to add legitimacy to his candidacy.

Perhaps that was a part of it, but having seen Biden out on the campaign trail in the past few months it is becoming clear why his former running-mate may not be his biggest fan. Joe Biden may be the consummate politician, but he isn’t very self-aware.

There was a time when the touchy-feely senator’s political skills were very relevant. He has always struck me as the type of man who has stumbled upward his whole life, largely due to his good looks and the type of confident, masculine charm that has been beaten out of the political class by the social justice warrior set these days. Whatever his intellectual bonafides – or lack thereof – Biden was a man of his day and he was smart enough to make a lifetime career out of his toothy smile.

Understandably, Democrat voters were anxious to see Uncle Joe get in the race. In a crowded and bland 2020 field, his lifetime of experience and more notably his resume over the last decade make him their best hope to put a dent in Trump’s relentlessly engaging brand of leadership. In an era when Trump rules the news cycle all day every, a guy like Biden has enough name recognition to at least earn some primetime coverage.

It was perplexing to see Biden biding his time to get in the race, but the more he talks the more obvious it becomes that his team knew what we are only now seeing – the current political era has moved on and Biden has not moved with it.

Trump has ushered American politics into uncharted waters. Biden was built for the fuzziness of traditional American politics – a world where the ability to say nothing while talking nonstop is rewarded above all else. In 2019, an effective candidate needs to be able to match the bluntness of Trump. Biden can’t match that bluntness and he’s too proud (and maybe too experienced) to fake it. While his 2020 colleagues curse and sling insults in a poor facsimile of Trump talk, he is left with an antiquated diplomacy and the stereotypical fear mongering that American voters are growing increasingly numb to.

The other thing that has made Biden such a successful politician is that he’s been limited to fits and bursts of public commentary. He has rarely been handed the public platform for long periods of time with heightened media interest. In soundbites, Biden is a pro. Long-form Biden is significantly less impressive. The longer he has to talk the more obvious it becomes that he has no real ideas and no real opinions.

The pace of the race has changed this election cycle. Biden wasn’t able to get his footing in the opening Democrat debates because he doesn’t have the stomach for new speed. The man has coasted in his job for decades, never having to really fight for time or attention. Now he’s being asked to throw some swings but it’s not clear that he has the reaction time to connect.

The good senator from Delaware didn’t even realize that you aren’t allowed to respect your political opponents as human beings anymore. He’s certainly aware now, but I don’t think he likes it and it shows.

The longer this campaign goes on the more obvious it becomes that the world Joe Biden was first elected to has changed dramatically. It is a world he no longer fits into. Much like he Republican counterpart Jeb Bush, he is a legitimately experienced and skillful politician but also symbol of the old guard – a relic of a time that may not ever return to the political universe.

In a race that boasts several minority candidates, Biden can’t even count on the endorsement of the president he served for eight years. Alongside that unfortunate reality, the legacy of Obama’s administration is fading fast under the bright lights of the Trump era and their record is becoming a burden rather than an asset as more and more details of Obama’s ineptness come to light.

Joe Biden says he’s a fighter, but the longer he talks the more time people have to realize he’s just not up to the task of navigating modern political sensibilities. I’ve never thought of him as a bad guy, just a typical politician. I suspect the former vice president  finds the current political climate distasteful and is having a bit of a tug-of-war with this staff about succumbing to the current environment.

Love him or hate him, Joe Biden has been a fixture on the American political scene for ages. That deserves some sort of recognition, but the era of the “legacy” candidates is over…for now, anyway. Biden is still way ahead for now, but at some point he will not be able to depend on his name recognition to keep propelling him forward. His voting base is too desperate to beat Trump, and they’re paying too close attention to every utterance and syllable of their candidates.

That is turning out to be his biggest problem of all.

In yet another conflict the group has forgotten what its mission statement is supposed to be.

By this point to suggest that terms like oblivious, contradictory, or hypocritical can be applied to the activist group Antifa would require using another term — it is redundant. The group that claims it is doing the noble work of beating back the Nazi scourge in this country has been consistently the source of the very acts and behavior it says it has been charged with defeating. Today in Washington D.C. has been no different.

The reason for the gathering is to serve as a counter-protest to an organized free speech rally that is being attributed to controversial Alt-right groups, and The Proud Boys. There have been a number of speakers at the counter-rally, displaying their opposition to what they accuse is happening.

They want to use this opportunity to weaponize free speech!” Nothing better to see than groups opposing something and displaying a functional ignorance of the issue over which they are upset. Saying something akin to “We don’t like how they use free speech!” bears some similarity to Orwellian language.

Better still is that in the areas where Antifa members have been permitted to organize they are distributing flyers with listed rules they want to enforce on anyone from the media. Soak that in: at a rally where people are calling for free speech the group that pledges to combat oppressive forces is dictating what the press will be forbidden from doing.

Julio Rosas, from the Washington Examiner, posted a photo of a flyer that Antifa organizers were passing around. It is a list of rules for the press — oh, excuse me: “Guidelines” — that are expected to be followed to gain access into the area of the Antifa rally.

Further, they want to forbid any members of the media who will not agree to their terms from entering the area where they are organized. A cute stipulation, considering they had to obtain a permit in order to congregate on what is public property. That means they have been permitted to be there, it does NOT mean they now control what takes place on that public location.

The third entry is especially precious. They imply that anything filmed against their will can be used in court, because they worry something incriminating could be recorded and will strive to obtain that footage through subpoena.

How does anyone not laugh at a group that calls itself “Anti Fascist” while it attempts to employ stridently fascistic techniques? They want to control speech, bar the press, and forcibly prevent individuals from entering public locations. They threaten legal reprisals against anyone they deem to have violated their neutered “guidelines”.

Today they are marching in the streets of D.C., claiming the streets belong to them, and they create vandalism in their wake. As we discussed on our most recent podcast myself, and Sarah Lee, speculated on how infrequently the very frequent violence by Antifa does not involve Nazi activities. Journalists, politicians, immigration officers, and general citizens have been targets of assault, and worse, by these dolts — as they supposedly oppose such behavior.

Amusingly they also try to use typical fascist tactics, all to protect themselves from being exposed as the violent jackboots they actually are in practice. Attempting to silence the media during a free speech rally only deepens the humor these thugs generate in their attempt at being taken seriously.

Joe Biden: If Trump Wins 2020 NATO Will Cease to Exist in 4-5 Years

Westlake Legal Group 20190705_BidenGaffes-620x465 Joe Biden: If Trump Wins 2020 NATO Will Cease to Exist in 4-5 Years NATO Joe Biden Front Page Stories Featured Story elections CNN Chris Cuomo 2020 Democrats

Former Vice President and current presidential candidate Joe Biden sat down with Chris Cuomo at CNN over the holiday to talk about his campaign, debate performance and all things Trump. Biden admitted his debate performance wasn’t the best, blaming the time limits and crowded stage.

Cuomo went on to press Biden about the future of campaign trail and the consequences of another four years with Trump at the helm.

CUOMO: “There are domestic agenda items I want to take you through. You have made a big point of saying the threat here with the current administration is abroad. What exactly bothers you abroad?”

BIDEN: “What bothers me abroad is, look, the idea that we can go it along who no alliances for the next 20 or 30 years is a disaster. How are we going to deal with stateless terrorism without doing what I’ve been able to do with the president, put together a coalition of 50, 60 nations to take it on? I came out of a generation where we were trying to be the policemen of the world. We can’t go every place. We need allies. He is absolutely dissing them. He’s embracing thugs, he’s embracing Kim Jong-Un who’s a thug. He’s embracing Putin who is a flat dictator. He’s embracing people who, in fact — and he’s stiff-arming our friends. He’s threatening NATO, to pull out of NATO. Come on.”

CUOMO: “He says he’s gotten NATO to give in more money for defense because of his tactics.”

BIDEN: “Give me a break. Come on, man. By the way, the idea that NATO — let me put it this way, if he wins re-election, I promise you there will be no NATO in four years or five years.”

CUOMO: “You think there will be no more NATO if he’s re-elected?

BIDEN: “No more NATO. Look, I went to a conference and the first speaker stood up, the chancellor, the former chancellor of Germany stands up and she says, ‘We have to go it alone. We can’t count on the United States.’ Why did we set up NATO, Chris? So no one nation could abuse the power in the region in Europe, that would suck us in in the way they did in World War I and World War II. It’s being crushed. Look at what’s happening with Putin. While Putin is trying to undo our elections, he is undoing elections in Europe. Look at what’s happening in Hungary, look what’s happening in Poland, look what’s happening. You think that would happen on my watch or Barack’s watch? You can’t answer that, but I promise it wouldn’t have, and it didn’t.”

Joe Biden went to a conference, everyone. So…he knows some stuff about some things. Obviously one must take seriously the former chancellor of a country we still protect to this day with a significant military presence within their borders.

DESPICABLE: Police Officers Asked To Leave Starbucks Because a Customer ‘Did Not Feel Safe’

Westlake Legal Group rsz_08fa0873-f266-477b-a28b-046a8ee2d76f-620x414 DESPICABLE: Police Officers Asked To Leave Starbucks Because a Customer ‘Did Not Feel Safe’ Tempe Officers Association Starbucks Social Justice progressives Popular Culture political correctness Liberal Elitism Front Page Stories Featured Story entitlement of millenials Culture Allow Media Exception

This story makes my head explode.

Through a series of tweets (below), the Tempe Officers Association (TOA) told a very disturbing story.

Six police officers stopped at a Tempe, AZ Starbucks shop before their shift began on the Fourth of July. A barista, who addressed one of the officers by name because he was a regular at this location, approached to tell them a customer had complained they “did not feel safe” because of the “police presence.”  The barista asked them to either leave the shop or else to move out of the complaining customer’s line of sight. The officers left.

The tweet said, “This treatment of public safety workers could not be more disheartening. While the barista was polite, making such a request at all was offensive. Unfortunately, such treatment has become all too common in 2019. We know this is not a national policy at Starbucks Corporate and we look forward to working collaboratively with them on this important dialogue.”

The TOA ended with the following tweet:

The president of the police union, Rob Ferraro, told FOX 10 of Phoenix that “such treatment of police officers seems to be happening more often these days…It’s become accepted to not trust or to see police and think that we’re not here to serve you, and again, it goes back to — we take great pride of the level of customer service we provide to citizens, and to be looked at as feeling unsafe when you have law enforcement around you is somewhat perplexing to me.”

Starbucks spokesman Reggie Borges spoke to The Arizona Republic.

We have a deep respect for the Tempe Police and their service to the community. We’ve reached out to the Tempe Police Department and Tempe Officers Association to better understand what happened and apologize. We want everyone in our stores to feel welcomed and the incident described is not indicative of what we want any of our customers to feel in our stores.

We want everyone in our stores to feel welcomed and the incident described is not indicative of what we want any of our customers to feel in our stores.

Neither the barista or the customer were identified.

What would cause an individual (and I’m picturing a female millennial although I have no way of knowing), to feel unsafe in the presence of police officers? Unless one was carrying drugs or had something to hide, why would anyone feel unsafe around a police officer? And worse, how could a person feel they were entitled to ask fellow customers in a public location to leave? I am stunned by the sheer hubris and rudeness of it.

More appalling still was the poor judgement of the barista. He or she had a choice to make in that situation. He should have politely declined the customer’s request.

Why has it become increasingly okay to insult police officers, those who risk their lives to protect us?

I scanned through some of the replies to the TOA tweets and found the following one.

I think it’s stupid to ask the police to leave because the customer felt uncomfortable. I’ve been to that location twice and I was asked to leave because I had on a work uniform and I was the only black customer in the store and everybody looked at me and I was asked to leave.

Does Starbucks now ban  everyone dressed in a uniform from entering their shop? Does one need to dress a certain way to grab a cup of coffee at a Starbucks?

You may recall this Starbucks story from last year. “Two black men who were waiting for a business colleague inside the shop were arrested for trespassing at a Philadelphia Starbucks shop.  The city’s police commissioner later apologized to the men and Starbucks closed some 8,000 locations for part of a business day to conduct “racial bias training.”

It may be time for Starbucks to conduct another round of training, this time on the subject of manners and common sense.

On July 3rd, RedState’s Bonchie covered an MSNBC contributor comparing the American flag to a swastika.

These antics aren’t a whole lot more boss.

So how’d the Microsoft/NBC news network react to the 4th of July extravaganza on the National Mall Thursday, which sported some tanks?

(By the way, the 4th of July is a celebration of the nation’s hard-won independence, which was accomplished by war).

Well, they responded as if Hitler had descended upon the District of Columbia.

Here’s a bit of how the event looked:

During The 11th Hour, the partisan peacock got off to a great start by rooting their segment in a bit o’ this: “WAPO: Trump Ignores Norms That Keep Military Out of Partisan Issues.”

Huh??

Might it make more sense to say, “WAPO Ignores Norms That Keep Partisan Issues Out of Military”?

Or out of Independence Day?

Ali Velshi began with this knee slappin’ prod to retired Army Gen. Barry McCaffrey:

“What’s the circumstance, General? I’m curious. Because countries like France do hold these types of demonstrations. Obviously, we associate them more with military dictatorships.”

Nice. Reeeal nice opener.

Then Ali pushed out a question I’m still trying to figure out. Who would ask this? It’s a beaut:

“What is the right way in which we can appreciate these remarkable machines and these airplanes?”

The “right way”??

Then he followed with, “Nobody likes an air show more than I do.”

Doesn’t sound like it.

The host inquired:

“What’s the way in which this gets done without politicization?”

Uhhh…the way in which it gets done without politicization is that it happens and you don’t politicize it…with this segment and those questions.

The general seemed to go with the military dictatorship thing:

“Well, I think most of it — we’ve gotta focus on the fact that it’s Mr. Trump. That’s the problem.’

Oh — that’s the problem.

“He’s turning it into a narcissistic kind of display of his own purpose.”

Are they talking about a parade in Washington or in North Korea?

I invite you all to crack the code here…

Take it away, Barry:

“Around the country, routinely, there are air shows all over the United States, all year. … So displaying and letting the American people see their armed forces and its equipment is entirely legitimate. We just don’t want it used divisively, particularly on the 4th of July.”

How was it “used divisively”?

This is a supremely dumb attempt at sleight of hand: State that something is divisive — which is to say, be divisive. Accuse the other side of being divisive because you don’t agree with the thing that you called divisive because you didn’t agree.

More from Barry:

“Washington D.C. loves that day. It’s just a tremendous ceremony. Now, it’s gonna be another vile political fight.”

So there ya have it, folks — with a military parade celebrating a country-founding military victory of sorts, Donald Trump turned a lovable holiday into something vile.

“Donald Trump’s Using The Military And Making July 4th A Vile Political Fight” — that was MSNBC’s own headline on YouTube.

Some in the media have claimed the President made the celebration all about himself.

But who made it all about Trump — Trump, or goofballs claiming Trump made it all about Trump?

Witness more goofiness in the video below, along with a great tribute to America’s history of military parades.

Delay In DOJ Inspector General’s Report Due To ‘Reluctant Witnesses’ Coming Forward at ’11th Hour’

Westlake Legal Group horowitz-620x326 Delay In DOJ Inspector General’s Report Due To ‘Reluctant Witnesses’ Coming Forward at ’11th Hour’ Sundance - Conservative Treehouse Special Counsel Mueller Investigation Michael Horowitz Kathleen Kavalec John Solomon Front Page Stories FISA Abuse report FISA Featured Story FBI and DOJ Corruption Christopher Steele Catherine Herridge Allow Media Exception Abuse of Power

DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz’ report on possible FISA abuse by the FBI was expected in May or June. It will be delayed further because “reluctant key witnesses” with whom the IG had sought interviews early in the investigation, have now agreed to talk.

Fox News’ Catherine Herridge has followed this story closely and wrote that sources have told her “at least one witness outside the Justice Department and FBI started cooperating – a breakthrough that came after Attorney General William Barr ordered U.S. Attorney John Durham to lead a separate investigation into the origins” of the Russian collusion case.

The source also told Herridge that new developments required some witnesses to be reinterviewed.

Former senior DOJ official, Tom Dupree, who served as deputy assistant attorney general from 2007 to 2009, told her “the wheels of inspector general investigations move very, very slowly…Like any investigation, you talk to one person, something that person tells you sends you back … to the first person, so it can be a very extensive, exhaustive process, because you are constantly picking up leads, interviewing former sources and navigating complex questions of classified information.”

Herridge reports:

In this case, additional FISA information came to light late in the process – including October 2016 contact (first reported by The Hill and confirmed by Fox News) between a senior State Department official and a former British spy Christopher Steele, who authored the infamous and salacious anti-Trump dossier.

The State Department contact with Steele was relayed to a senior FBI official. The timeline matters because about two weeks later, the FBI and DOJ used Steele’s unverified research, paid for by the DNC and Clinton campaign, to secure a surveillance warrant against former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page. At the very least, it’s been argued, Steele’s contact with another government agency should have been a red flag for the FBI because it may have violated his confidential human source agreement.

Steele was later fired by the FBI over his media contacts before the 2016 presidential election. The Page surveillance warrant is the central issue of the DOJ IG’s review.

Although Herridge does not provide a name in her report, most likely she is discussing Kathleen Kavalec, then-Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Department of State Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs. She served under Victoria Nuland and covered Russia. Kavalec met with Steele ten days before the FBI applied to the FISA Court for their first warrant to spy on Page.

During this exchange, Steele told Kavalec that his client was “keen” to break the story before election day. (John Solomon’s articles can be viewed here and here.)

Kavalec made two important discoveries. First, she realized that some of the material in the dossier Steele had prepared for the FBI and the Clinton campaign was inaccurate. After a brief meeting with Steele, Kavalec was instantly aware of Steele’s agenda and she was alarmed. She prepared a memo from her meeting notes and sent it to the appropriate officials at the FBI. The memo said that Steele had told her, “Payments to those recruited are made out of the Russian Consulate in Miami.” She then wrote, “It is important to note that there is no Russian consulate in Miami.” Kavalec also said that Steele admitted his work was political.

Kavalec also determined that the story about Trump’s former personal attorney Michael Cohen’s alleged trip to Prague was false. She used the State Department portal to look at travel records. Solomon uploaded Kavalec’s handwritten notes from her meeting with Steele to Scribd which can be viewed here. The notation about Cohen can be found on page 11.

Citizens United recently obtained copies of Kavalec’s memo, through a FOIA request. The documents were immediately forwarded to the DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz who had not been aware that they even existed.

Citizens United learned that the memo and related documents had been retroactively labeled as classified by the FBI. They were heavily redacted. Kavalec sent the email to the FBI on October 13, 2016.

Kavalec’s testimony could be critical to the IG’s case.

The Conservative Treehouse’ “Sundance” asks and answers an important question: Why is the FBI so damned committed to this Steele Dossier?

That answer is simple. In October 2016, they needed the dossier to get the FISA warrant. They needed the 2016 FISA warrant to cover-up for all of the unauthorized and illegal surveillance activity that was already underway throughout 2016.

The Russian election interference narrative; the use of Joseph Mifsud, Stefan Halper, the London and Australian embassy personnel; Erika Thompson, Alexander Downer, U.S. DIA officials; everything around Crossfire Hurricane; and everything after to include the construct of the Steele Dossier; all of it was needed for the creation of an ‘after-the-fact‘  plausible justification to cover-up what Mike Rogers discovered in early 2016, AND the downstream unmasked records that existed in the Obama White House SCIF.

Fusion GPS was not hired in April 2016 to research Donald Trump. The intelligence community was already doing surveillance and spy operations. They already knew everything about the Trump campaign.

The Obama intelligence community needed Fusion GPS to give them a justification for pre-existing surveillance operations. Fusion fulfilled that objective by contracting for the Steele Dossier.

That’s why the FBI, and later the Mueller team, were/are so strongly committed to, and defending, the formation of the Steele Dossier and its dubious content. Once they had the dossier in hand the FBI proceeded forward for an ex post facto FISA warrant.

The goal was surveillance authority. The FBI used the Carter Page FISA application. The FBI already knew Carter Page. Essentially Carter Page was irrelevant, what they needed was the dossier in the system, and the FISA authority as justification to execute the “insurance policy.”

Let’s hope that Kavalec and at least a few others are willing to tell the truth. It will certainly save a lot of time. Generally, once one individual speaks honestly, a story falls apart rather quickly.

It’s impossible to tell when the report will be released to the public. Once Horowitz has completed the report, it must undergo a “final review” by the FBI and the DOJ to determine what information needs to be redacted.

Faster please.
