June Jobs Report Smashes Expectations As “Experts” Swing and Miss Again

This is certainly good news for the country. It’s also good news politically for President Trump, who’s re-election is going to heavily depend on a booming economy.

The June jobs report has been released and it has blown past expectations, with 224,000 jobs added and a large increase in the labor participation rate.

Wage growth of 3.1% is also really big news because that’s been one area Democrats have tried to make headway on. As recently as their debate last week, you heard candidates in their 2020 primary talking about how the economy is only working for the rick. The truth is that this is a broad, vibrant economy that is lifting all boats. It’s going to be increasingly difficult to make the case that we are in the midst of a bad economy when we continue to get numbers like this.

Of course, those racing to face off against Trump in 2020 will certainly still try. I suspect it’ll continue to fall on deaf ears though. Even a majority of Democrats currently believe the economy is good. The facts simply do not back up any of the doomsday scenarios we’ve heard. Even in the midst of the current boom, we’ve had others predicting a recession. That hasn’t materialized either and we are getting to the point where one clearly won’t happen before the 2020 election.

That leaves Democrats making nonsensical cases for utopias that can’t actually be achieved. Telling people who are enjoying growing wages and steady work that they need the government to step in and essentially start running the economy, from healthcare to loans, is a hard sell. Running on raising taxes, as Biden and Harris (among others) are doing is likely political suicide.

For Trump’s part, all he needs to do is stay focused. Avoid slap fights with irrelevant people and do what he did yesterday on the Fourth of July. Present a unifying message of American exceptionalism backed up by an economy that is crushing it by every tangible measure. If he does that, he makes his re-election much more likely.

When Will CNN Begin to Disclose its Financial Support of Kamala Harris?

Westlake Legal Group Kamala When Will CNN Begin to Disclose its Financial Support of Kamala Harris? Uncategorized Front Page Stories Featured Story

You might think such a lecturing news outlet would adhere to strict ethical standards.

If Kamala Harris were president of the United States I would sleep like a baby. She is not to be messed with.” These were the words of CNN analyst Van Jones, following the second DNC debate held on June 27. This past Monday pundit Ana Navaro gleefully posted a tweet announcing a Harris jump in the polls. Following that, reporter April Ryan declared, “This president has a problem with strong black women,” in trying to create a third party smear involving Kamala Harris.

To say that CNN has taken a favorable view of Harris is being charitable. What needs to be pointed out is that the network has literally been charitable to the Senator from California. Considering the level of support and defense offered for the politician running for the highest office would it not seem needed that it is announced on air the corporate donations Harris has been receiving from the owners of CNN?

The Ryan charge comes as a result of reports which I recently covered regarding CNN’s attempt to describe questions about the ethnic background of Kamala Harris as originating from those on the right. In the loosest way possible the woman who invoked her race at the debate was said to have been smeared by Donald Trump Jr. for raising the question about her race. (He actually had not.) This exaggerated claim was then forwarded over the President himself by Ryan, and suddenly Donald Trump is believed to have said something racist in regards to a potential challenger for the White House.

Lost amid all of this finger-pointing was that CNN anchor Don Lemon had in fact been one source who brought the Kamala Harris ethnicity into question. And not quietly. He gave voice to doubting her true blackness, on his primetime program — in a discussion with April Ryan herself!

But amid this wholesale support seemingly taking place on air with CNN personalities would it not be reasonable to ask why the network has not disclosed the financial support of Harris, matching its verbal support? At Open Secrets, they show the listings of those who have given to the Harris campaign in what it declares “The 2020 Cycle”. The second largest contributor to the Senator is AT&T Inc., the parent company of CNN. To date, she has received over $53,000 from this source.

As described by Open Secrets, these donations are described thusly: “The money came from the organizations’ PACs; their individual members, employees or owners; and those individuals’ immediate families.” This is what gives some cover. It can be said these are not formal donations from the company itself, but individual employees acting of their own motivation. This does little to dispel the image of bias towards the candidate.

By the same template, the next highest total for a Democrat running is Cory Booker, and he has received from AT&T far less than one half of the Kamala Harris figure — around $21,000.

Further, there appears to be a dose of entrenched support for the Senator from the prior years, involving the last owner of the network, Time-Warner Media. In the time of her Senate campaign, and intervening years, Time-Warner was among her top donors, again using the same measurements. So in describing the donations as coming from individual employees, it appears the staff at CNN has been favoring the candidate for some time, and is continuing to do so in the coming Presidential race.

It should be time for CNN to come forward with this donor detail. Otherwise, all of the on-air support she has been receiving from the network could be regarded as an in-kind donation that should be recorded with the Federal Election Commission.

Say What? Biden Tells CNN Election Interference “Wouldn’t, Didn’t” Happen Under His Watch

2020 Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden did a wide-ranging interview this week with CNN’s Chris Cuomo which aired earlier this morning. Among the topics discussed were the war of words between his campaign and the Sen. Kamala Harris (CA) campaign which have escalated since last week’s debate, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), and – of course – President Trump.

During the interview, Biden veered off on a rant about NATO and how in his view if Trump is reelected, NATO will cease to exist. Towards the end of the segment, he talked about Russian President Vladimir Putin’s election interference in other countries and how it “wouldn’t, didn’t” happen on his [Biden’s and Obama’s] watch here:

“Why did we set up NATO, Chris? So no one nation could abuse the power in the region, in Europe, that would suck us in in the way that they did in World War One and World War Two. It’s being crushed,” he said.

Foreign policy has long been viewed as one of Biden’s strengths. He has extensive experience in the area from working in the Obama administration, as well as serving as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Biden pointed to Russia’s growing influence in the west through election meddling and called out the country’s President Vladimir Putin.

“While Putin is trying to undo our elections, he is undoing elections in Europe,” he said. “Look what’s happened in Hungary. Look what’s happened in Poland. Look what’s happened in Moldova. Look what’s happening. Do you think that would happen on my watch or Barack’s watch? [You can’t answer that but I promise you it wouldn’t have, and it didn’t.]

Watch Biden’s remarks below:

Fox News provided a handy fact check for the former veep:

Biden’s remarks were swiftly rejected on social media — given that the intelligence community determined Russia did try to interfere in the 2016 election, during the Obama administration when he was vice president. Then-Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s probe was launched the following year with the mission of determining whether Trump associates colluded with Russia as part of that effort, though the investigation did not turn up evidence of a criminal conspiracy.

Also, though there have been a lot of tweets contradicting Biden on his claim, this one is short, sweet, to the point and sums it up best:

Someone might wanna clue Biden in on this before the next series of debates, because people are gonna have questions…

People who saw photographer Annie Leibovitz’s photo of the Democratic women running for president in 2020 noticed that someone was missing.

Marianne Williamson noticed her absence as well.

Williamson told CNN that she was never asked to join the picture as it was only supposed to be about the women who were currently in office. Williamson took this as a snub regardless, saying it’s not up to Vogue to be the gatekeepers of who does and doesn’t qualify to run.

“The Framers of the Constitution were very clear about who’s qualified to run for president. They did not make any media, certainly not Vogue magazine, the gatekeeper here,” Williamson told CNN. “The Framers of the Constitution said in order to run for president, in order to be qualified to be president, you have to have been born here, you have to have lived here 14 years, and you have to be 35 years or older.”

“If they wanted to say you had to be an elected official, they would have. And they didn’t for a reason,” she added.

Williamson didn’t stop at explaining why Vogue was wrong to CNN. She decided to insert herself into Leibovitz’s photo with her picture hanging above the women in the frame.

Superb.

In truth, Williamson should consider herself lucky that she wasn’t included. The photo shoot doesn’t exactly ring empowerment or accomplishment. In fact, it looks like a photo of forced comradery that ends up giving one an awkward feeling. The controversy might even bump her in the polls just off the fact that it makes her seem like an outsider, and people are all about outsiders right now.

Vox Ludicrously Proves That the Leftist Media Has a Soft Spot for Antifa

Westlake Legal Group AP_945566433808-620x329 Vox Ludicrously Proves That the Leftist Media Has a Soft Spot for Antifa vox Violence Politics Media Front Page Stories Featured Story democrats bias antifa Andy Ngo Allow Media Exception

Comcast, which became a TV powerhouse by signing up Generation Xers, is investing in online media outlets like BuzzFeed and Vox that attract millenial viewers. (AP Photo/Richard Vogel)

Earlier this morning I was responding to a writer at The Atlantic who had mentioned myself and a number of other writers at various right-leaning websites who were condemning the mainstream media’s skewed approach of the coverage of Antifa’s attack on reporter Andy Ngo. According to The Atlantic, conservatives were conjuring up this sympathy from the left toward Antifa. The point of my response was to point out that the media was responding completely differently to the attack on Ngo than it would have any kind of violent occurrence where its narrative could have thrived.

Read: “The Atlantic Doesn’t Understand The Media’s Hypocrisy Over Coverage Of Antifa’s Attack On Andy Ngo.

As if on cue, an article was floated to me at Vox essentially proving my point.

Vox author

Up to this point, Beauchamp is neutral, but he then quickly dives into throwing Ngo into a bad light by essentially listing why the second narrative is true. He then goes into the attack, saying that he doesn’t know if Ngo started the attack or not, but the 30-second video of Ngo being assaulted by Antifa makes Ngo “clearly comes across as the victim of an attack.”

He writes this despite acknowledging Antifa had mentioned Ngo by name in such a way that would give Antifa members justification for physically attacking him, and its reasons they aren’t shy about using.

To be fair, Beauchamp does condemn the violence done upon Ngo, and good on him for that. The problem is that it rings hollow as Beauchamp proceeds to caution everyone not to paint Antifa with a broad brush of violence despite Antifa making it clear that violence is acceptable in the face of its enemies. In fact, he goes so far as to note that Antifa hasn’t murdered anyone while alt-right extremists have:

CNN’s Jake Tapper, for example, argued that this was part of a broader pattern of antifa violence — retweeting an interview with Ngo in which he compares antifa to the neo-Nazi who killed Heather Heyer in Charlottesville in 2017.

But antifa has not committed a single murder, at least that we’re aware of. We don’t yet have proof that the people who assaulted Ngo were antifa members (though it seems likely given their history). And the attack on Ngo seems less like a part of a broader pattern of attacks on journalists than it does part of a specific feud between Portland antifa and Ngo; they didn’t appear to target other journalists at the rally in the same fashion (which doesn’t excuse the attack on Ngo).

The problem with this narrative is not that antifa is blameless. Some of its members clearly have crossed the line. It’s that hyping the threat they pose paints a decentralized group with a broad and simple brush, and contributes to a disproportionate right-wing panic in the process.

I need to make two very important points about this part of Beauchamp’s piece. For one, I want to say Antifa hasn’t committed a murder…yet. They certainly do things that could result in someone dying. They have repeatedly demonstrated that they’re willing to club people over the head with heavy objects, and have sent people to the hospital with head injuries, and I’m not just talking about Ngo.

I’d also like to mention that Steven Crowder went undercover with Antifa at one point, and they were planning on using deadly weapons during their “protests.”

No, they haven’t killed anyone, but they are perfectly positioning themselves to do so, and I’m not entirely sure they’re looking to avoid it either.

The other point is that while Antifa is a decentralized group, I’ve yet to see one Antifa group promote non-violence. They relish the idea of the exact opposite. If you do see one, please let me know, but until I see the majority of Antifa groups speak out against violence, I’d consider them an exception to the rule.

In fact, as New York City Antifa tweeted — and was subsequently retweeted by Rose City Antifa, who carried out the attack on Ngo — “there is no debate with people who want to kill you.”

Who wants to kill them is left nice and nebulous.

Meanwhile, other decentralized movements, such as GamerGate, made it very clear that violence was not an option in its culture war against its opposition. Those who did promote the idea of violence, or putting people in danger, were quickly shunned and not considered a part of the movement. Antifa doesn’t do this. Violence is a standard rule.

Beauchamp continues by saying that focusing on Antifa’s transgressions is actually distracting us from the real threat, right-wing violence:

As bad as antifa’s transgressions have been, the far right has been worse. There is no antifa equivalent to Heyer’s murder, or the Charleston church shooting, or the attack on a Pittsburgh synagogue. Antifa has no relationship with the Democratic Party nor do its members really support the party; alt-right activists are Trump fans, and at times seem to get tacit support from the White House (again, see Charlottesville). A national focus on antifa can distract from the much greater problem of far-right extremism — as watchdog groups have argued.

Perhaps Beauchamp forgot about Jared Loughner, Ismaaiyl Abdullah Brinsley, Micah Johnson, James Hodgkinson, Charles Landeros, etc., though I want to be clear that I’m not necessarily whole-hog blaming anyone for a shooting based solely on their political ideology. In order to carry out horrid murders, there has to be something wrong with you upstairs. It’d be more accurate to call these people mentally disturbed than ideological radicals.

Interestingly enough, the right doesn’t get this understanding from its opponents very often. Regardless, Beauchamp wants us to stop talking about left-wing violence because it distracts from right-wing violence.

Beauchamp goes into briefly discussing that the left’s take on the Ngo attack is also problematic, but then asks the reader to question the footage we saw with our own eyes and asserts that the meaning of what we saw is “open to contestation”:

But we know, as filmmakers long have, that footage doesn’t convey the objective reality of a situation; it reveals certain things and obscures others. Moreover, the meaning of filmed events is entirely open to contestation. The mere fact that Ngo was assaulted doesn’t say what the meaning of that assault is, or what the broader context is that’s necessary to understand it.

…how?

We saw the attack happen, and it looked like many of the attacks we’ve seen Antifa carry out on various other individuals. Why do we need to question its meaning? The meaning is very clear and was set up beforehand as was previously discussed. Antifa makes it a habit to practice violence on people it deems to be its enemy, and they can label anyone as an enemy at the drop of a hat.

Beauchamp’s attempt to appear as a commenter on the situation falls entirely flat and proves my point in the previous article. The leftist media is handling this Antifa situation with kid gloves and even setting up its targets to be people you’d have trouble sympathizing with.

It’s also rich, coming from a publication whose most famous face is known for promoting assault as well.

By most accounts, President Trump’s involvement in the Fourth of July celebration on the National Mall not only didn’t result in M1 tanks crushing #Resistance, Antifa, and Bulwarker protesters, the celebration might even have been made more meaningful by having the participation of the US military. By most accounts. But Resisters gonna resist even when doing so makes them look stupid.

Case in point. The woman who is rapidly replacing Joe Biden as the Rain Man of American politics, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Because people turning out to honor the nation and the military in the presence of the hated Donald Trump would be a repudiation on the order of her hand-picked candidate for Queens County District Attorney losing her election, the celebration, itself, must be denigrated.

This appears to be bullsh**

A couple of days ago, Louisiana Senator John Kennedy drew some fire for a comment he made about AOC’s description of detention camps for people apprehended entering the US illegally, “Let me be frank, Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez … someone needs to tell her that the voices in her head are not real.” That advice was just as true yesterday as it was when Senator Kennedy offered it.

Against All Odds, America Survived Donald Trump Giving a Speech on Fourth of July

We did it.

I don’t know how we did it, but it’s a testament to our resilience as a nation. Somehow, someway, we mustered the strength to survive the President giving a completely non-political speech on Fourth of July.

And did I mention there were tanks?

The collective freak out that accompanied this past week’s lead up to the annual Independence Day festivities on the National Mall has been something to behold.

Here’s just a taste of the hysterics we witnessed.

Absolutely chilling.

Here’s video of the speech if you’d care to see some cool flyovers and a brief history of United States. The absolute horror contained within is hard to take, so viewer discretion is advised.

So what actually happened? Trump gave a very good, non-political speech that spent time honoring key figures in American history, as well as each branch of the military.

It was unifying and even the most ardent Trump opposer should have been able to suspend their delusion for a moment and just enjoy the spectacle. B-2 Bombers and F-22s flying over are cool. The band playing the different songs of the branches is cool. There’s nothing wrong with any of that.

Of course, despite Trump making his naysayers look like petty children for being so over the top about the whole thing, the left-wing media responded exactly as you’d expect.

CNN aired the rest of the speech, but afterward, the floodgates of stupid shattered into a million pieces. Kirby led by asserting that he’s “troubled about the militaristic tone of the whole thing” that was “fairly sepia toned, and saccharine in its depth and context” lacking anything “about where the country should be going, what we should be working on.”

I just want to point out that had the President actually included “where the country should be going” in his speech, these same people would have lost their minds over him politicizing the event.

It didn’t end there though. Here’s April Ryan ranting about…well something.

As he’s saluting the military, I also watched him and heard him talk about women’s suffrage, you know, a hundred years ago how women weren’t allowed to vote. But there are still calls for him to have free and fair elections, you know, especially after this last midterm where there were calls about and not just women but just but for minorities as well issues of voter suppression.

This is CNN. She’s of course alluding to noted Georgia Gov. Stacey Abrams, who lost her election by 55,000 votes amid absolutely no evidence of voter suppression. But who’s keeping track?

The insanity that has descended upon our political discourse has reached heights that I would have laughed off as improbable just a few years ago. Literally, every single thing Donald Trump does must be spun as the end of the world. A few Bradleys on the Mall? Tienanmen Square all over again. A speech honoring the military? Trump is declaring himself dictator.

There’s such a thing as overplaying your hand and I’m beginning to think the left may be reaching that point. Are normal Americans really looking at this nonsense and thinking “yeah, I want to give them power?” I can’t say for sure, but I’m hopeful not.

The Atlantic Doens’t Understand the Media’s Hypocrisy Over Coverage of Antifa’s Attack On Andy Ngo

Westlake Legal Group ap-protest-seattle-antifa-620x512 The Atlantic Doens’t Understand the Media’s Hypocrisy Over Coverage of Antifa’s Attack On Andy Ngo Violence The Atlantic Steven Crowder right-wing media Politics peter beinart News Media Mainstream Media left-wing media Front Page Stories Featured Story donald trump democrats Culture bias antifa Andy Ngo Allow Media Exception

After the attack on Andy Ngo by the fascistic “Anti-Fascist” group known more popularly as “Antifa,” I waited to see how the mainstream media would treat it, and not surprising anyone who was watching the media for the same reason, it took the very predictable route of “yes, violence is bad, but was it as bad as they say it was?”

I listed in my article a few examples of how the media was handling it, noting the flippancy with which they treated the Ngo attack. I wasn’t the only one. The Federalist, Daily Caller, Washington Examiner, and more weighed in on the media’s reactions utilizing various sources that diverged and intersected between each article.

However, it wasn’t enough for Peter Beinart at The Atlantic. According to him, these examples aren’t really evidence that the media was actually running defense for Antifa, and more or less every person quoted had condemned the attack.

Beinart reached out to me on Twitter and in a direct message asked me to elaborate, letting me know that he was writing a piece covering the right’s take on the media’s coverage of Antifa’s attack on Ngo. He turned around and used my quote in an article accusing the right of “conjuring up liberal support for Antifa violence.”

Only he didn’t use my full quote.

I won’t speak for other right-leaning outlets and writers, but I get the impression their points were hovering around the same as the point I made to Beinart in a private message, and it’s the point he failed to use.

What Beinart wrote was:

“Media Matters, CNN, Mother Jones, and NYT all seemed to question the validity of the quick dry concrete in the milkshake reports by police,” he wrote in a Twitter message to me. He added, “Instead of immediately condemning Antifa for what they did,” these outlets “cast doubt on different aspects.”

What I told him was:

“Media Matters, CNN, Mother Jones, and NYT all seemed to question the validity of the quick dry concrete in the milkshake reports by police. CNN set up Ngo’s attack by saying that he “says he was assaulted” despite there being video footage of it. Instead of immediately condemning Antifa for what they did, they cast doubt on different aspects. This is the same media that was ready to believe and exaggerate a claim that a Catholic kid in a MAGA hat was a major racist despite a two hour video being available to prove he wasn’t, or that a Supreme Court nominee had committed acts of sexual assault despite mounds of evidence to the contrary.”

Not surprisingly, Beinart left that second part out.

Perhaps the point in my article wasn’t clear enough, though I don’t see how it couldn’t be. I’ll elaborate here just so that my leftist counterparts in the media — Beinart included — can understand.

The left wastes almost no time in grandstanding when injustices and crises occur when it comes to various issues.

Upon a mass shooting, the left immediately launches into doing everything it can to blame the gun and not the person wielding it, as if the gun convinced the shooter to undertake the act. They pull out cherry picked statistics while firing off asinine claims about gun owners.

If a high-profile sexual assault case arises, the left immediately assumes the man being charged is guilty without waiting for the evidence. They chant “believe all women” while denigrating men by blanket blaming them as potential rapists in waiting with Twitter hashtags like “yes all men,” and suggest we need to “teach men not to rape” as if we’re all idiots who didn’t know that already.

Last I checked, the left was perfectly willing to impeach Trump over imagined crimes that they just know he committed despite being cleared of all charges. This after a few years of jumping on every claim and hint that Trump had actually colluded with Russians and obstructed justice, with every lead falling flat.

People like Steven Crowder are racist according to the left, despite the fact that they can’t produce one solid piece of evidence that he is. However, a claim by one man with a grudge is enough proof to punish not only Crowder, but go scorched Earth on the entire website of YouTube in order to make sure anything resembling racism or homophobia is silenced or at least reduced.

I could go on, but I think you understand the pattern at this point.

The left is willing to go whole hog at anything that could help a narrative of theirs thrive, even with proof to the contrary readily available. Leaping before they look is a habit to the point of being a rule. It appears very often that the thinking is “lie now, and when the truth catches up later no one will care.” They’re not wrong either. The corrections they make are oftentimes way less circulated than their initial claim.

However, with Antifa, they suddenly want to switch on their skepticism and proceed with caution. They doubt police reports and even fail to mention the group at all in various reports about the incident. They even make excuses for the violence, saying that Ngo was essentially asking for it by being there. If this was said about a sexual assault victim, the left would lose its mind, and fair enough. However, the hypocrisy here can’t be overlooked. Ngo shouldn’t have been assaulted period, and it doesn’t matter why.

This is running defense for the violence of the left whether the left likes to admit it or not. It’s hypocrisy on full display and despite the fact that they condemned the violence, it feels shallow because condemning violence and then turning around and trying to make excuses for it doesn’t particularly make it seem like you actually care about the violence.

The differences between coverage of one incident to other is striking. That’s the point that I, and I’m sure many of my compatriots, are trying to get at. The media isn’t attacking this incident of clear-cut violence with the same zeal they would have had the attackers been carrying tiki torches or were wearing MAGA hats. In fact, I notice a lot of attacks on people wearing MAGA hats go completely unmentioned by various left-leaning outlets.

Contrary to Beinart’s claims, the right-leaning media didn’t “conjure” anything up. The left’s flippancy is staring us right in the face.

Hilarious: Laura Ingraham Lands A One-Two Punch On Rep. Joaquin Castro

Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-TX) got owned by Fox News’ Laura Ingraham on Tuesday. Twice.

Castro posted a video of a shower from one of the migrant facilities several members of Congress had toured earlier this week on Twitter. Frankly, it’s not bad, especially when you consider these people have crossed the border illegally.

Ingraham wasn’t shocked by the showers either. She tweeted that they were similar to Army facilities in Iraq she had seen (and used) during a visit to Camp Victory and Balad.

Obviously, a little miffed about being taken down by Ingraham, he did as all good Democrats are taught to do. He called her a white supremacist.

We’ll get to the racist part in a second. But first, excuse me Joaquin, we did not invite these people into our country. President Trump has repeatedly told them not to come. This is a make-shift facility we’ve been forced to build to accommodate the influx of illegal immigrants who have flooded our country.

But most importantly, the Congressman was unaware of one game changing fact. How many white supremacists does he know who would adopt three Latin American children?

Here is a photograph of Ingraham with her children.

This is a perfect example of how casually, liberally, randomly Democrats toss around this label. The Democratic Party is now defined by identity politics.

As a reminder, we need only to look at Colin Kaepernick’s characterization of the Betsy Ross flag as racially offensive.

Funny, Barack Obama didn’t seem to think so. Two of these offensive flags are featured prominently in the photograph below from his 2013 inauguration.

Democrats are beginning to look increasingly ridiculous as the tweet below implies.

“All I’m looking forward to on July 4th is a lecture from Colin Kaepernick on why we shouldn’t celebrate it,” said no one ever.

Unfortunately, that’s exactly what the former NFL quarterback-turned-social justice warrior did on Thursday in a tweet he posted quoting abolitionist and statesman Frederick Douglass:

Outside of retweets, Kaepernick hadn’t posted anything to his Twitter account since May 20th.

Kaepernick was a key factor in Nike’s recent decision not to sell Betsy Ross flag-themed shoes, which Democratic politicians like 2020 presidential candidate Julián Castro and California Gov. Gavin Newsom praised.

Historians and extremist group experts noted at the time that, contra to Kaepernick’s historical ignorance, the Betsy Ross flag is not a symbol of slavery, racism, and oppression.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) saw the Douglass quote and who posted it, and hopped on to Twitter in the middle of Independence Day festivities to add some much-needed context:

Cruz ended his Twitter thread by encouraging everyone to read the full speech in context:

National Review‘s Charles C.W. Cooke added a few tweets of his own quoting Douglass’s speech, and concluded by asking an important question of Kaepernick that he is unlikely to respond to:

I think the answer is clear.
