The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, based in San Francisco has 29 seats. Seven of those are filled by Trump appointees bringing the total of GOP appointed judges to thirteen. It appears that the Trump administration’s efforts to appoint conservative judges is starting to have some effect.

On Monday, District Court Judge Jon Tigar (Northern District of California), an Obama appointee, reinstated a nationwide ban on Trump’s Third Country Asylum rule. This policy prevents migrants from seeking asylum at the U.S. border unless they have already done so in Mexico or another third country. Prior to this, the Ninth Circuit had ruled that the preliminary injunction against this policy was only enforceable within the Ninth Circuit. My colleague Bonchie posted about this on Tuesday here.

On Tuesday, however, the Ninth Circuit issued an administrative order reversing Tigar’s nationwide ban. Yesterday’s order limits the ban to states over which the Ninth Circuit has jurisdiction. This includes California, Arizona, Alaska, Hawaii, Montana, Nevada, Idaho, Guam, Oregon, and Washington.

Fox News reports:

Tigar first blocked the asylum policy in July after a lawsuit by groups that help asylum seekers. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals then partially limited the impact of Tigar’s injunction.

That meant the policy was blocked in the border states of California and Arizona but not in New Mexico and Texas.

In his ruling Monday, Tigar circled back, and stressed a “need to maintain uniform immigration policy” and found that nonprofit organizations such as Al Otro Lado don’t know where asylum seekers who enter the U.S. will end up living and making their case to remain in the country.

Tiger, citing new evidence, on Monday issued a second nationwide injunction.

“The court recognized there is grave danger facing asylum-seekers along the entire stretch of the southern border,” Lee Gelernt, an attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union, said in a statement.

Tiger’s activism begs the question, should a highly partisan district court judge, an unelected federal official, have the power to set national immigration policy? Throughout Trump’s presidency, liberal judges have repeatedly acted to reverse his administration’s policies. These judges have more power than most elected officials do. This situation interferes with the President’s ability to govern and must be addressed by the Supreme Court.

Much to the left’s dismay, Trump’s policies are making a measurable difference. Despite the best efforts of the bleeding hearts, border apprehensions in August were down 56% to 64,000 from their peak in May when they reached 144,000.

Are you listening Justice Roberts?

Trump Corrects (and Calms?) the Left: Unlike Obama, He Doesn’t Think He’s President of the World

At a Monday night rally in North Carolina, Donald Trump got in a jab at Barak Obama.

Trump’s comment was mystifying, given his position in the political cosmos: According to many of his critics, he’s a madman plotting — with or without Russia — world domination; at the same time, many on the Left seem to believe it’s his responsibility to take care of the globe. Nationalism, in case you’ve not heard, is now a bad thing.

But Trump knows his boundaries:

“You finally have a president who understands that I’m not supposed to be president of the world; I’m supposed to be President of the United States of America. Obama is more popular in Germany than Trump. He’s got to be. I’m making people pay their bills. The day I’m more popular than him, I’m not doing my job. They like him more in Europe than they like Trump. I think they should.”

Wow.

That is, in my view, a substantial point.

Trump continued, referencing the fact that the Fayetteville event had been moved to the Crown Expo Center in order to keep a bigger-than-expected crowd out of the rain:

“I was even willing to stand out in the rain and get my hair soaking wet but they said it was a little bit out of your district. But I was willing to do it. I would’ve taken it. I would’ve been very proud to have done it. It would have shown it’s my real hair at least. It’s my hair. May not be great, but I will say it’s better than most of my friends’ who are the same age. A lot better.”

Wow again — a bit of self-deprecation. That’s a Trump rarity and — by me, at least — welcome.

The Donald went on with his hint-of-meekness message:

“You must never forget that the 2020 election is about one thing: You.

“It’s true. It’s not about me. It’s about you. It’s about your family, your future, and the fate of your country. … A vote for any Democrat in 2020 and a vote for any Democrat tomorrow in North Carolina is a vote for the rise of radical socialism and the destruction of the American dream. We are entering this campaign with the best record, the best results, the best agenda.”

Socialism sure has caught on among the Left — that and a few other ideas, as the Commander-in-Chief pointed out:

“Democrats are now the party of high taxes, high crime, open borders, late-term abortion, and socialism. They are socialists. The Republican party is the party of the American worker, the American family, and the American dream. … Democrats even want to give free health care to illegal immigrants… And as long as I’m your president, I will never, ever let Democrats take away your health care and give it away free to people that have entered our country illegally. We can’t do that. It’s a tremendous incentive to come in. Democrats also want to bring in unlimited numbers of foreign refugees from overseas, all at the expense of supporting their own communities. Republicans, no matter what you do, where you are, we want people to obey our laws.”

It is perhaps a bit surprising that some currently hoping to lead America don’t appear to be particularly promoting — compared to election cycles of the past — America.

There’s talk of Mexico (hereherehere, and here), people shouldering a greater tax burden (here), fighting white-hooded thunderstorms (here), and — of course — men spreading open their legs and pushing out goo-covered infants (good Lord here).

As for stuff that actually has to do with Americans and their prosperousness, Trump wants people to know he’s got ’em covered:

“We want people that are going to help our country. The Democratic Party has never been farther outside of the mainstream.”

Sure seems that way. But I’d believe it a little more coming from the President of the World. Drats.

If you’d like to watch the rally, I’ve included it in its entirety above.

-ALEX

“Airplanes Took Aim”: NY Times Shamefully Goes the Ilhan Omar Route in Describing How 9/11 Happened

Five months ago, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) said “some people did something” in a CAIR speech she gave where she talked about the 9/11/01 terrorist attacks. The “some people” she was referring to, of course, were the radical Islamic terrorists who “did something” by committing the attacks that killed nearly 3,000 innocent people.

Outrage was swift and came from many corners including from President Trump. The New York Post published a brutal front page reminder in response to Omar’s reprehensible comments:

Unfortunately, on the 18th anniversary of 9/11 it seems that the New York Times took a page from Omar’s book in characterizing the horrific events of that awful day.

In a now-deleted tweet they posted early this morning, the paper wrote that “airplanes took aim” at the World Trade Center, rather than noting terrorists “took aim.” They also noted the WTC was where “more than 2,000 people died” rather than accurately reporting it was where “nearly 3,000 people” were killed. Here are a couple of screen captures of the original tweet:

Not only was that how the tweet was written, but the actual story originally contained the same language:

Shorter New York Times: Some airplanes did something.

After a wave of criticism from Twitter users, the story was changed, but it still fell short by saying “people died” instead of “people were killed” (bolded emphasis added):

Once more, families gathered at ground zero, where nearly 3,000 people died on that bright September morning. Once more, there was an outpouring of grief. Once more, there was the sound of a bell tolling in mourning. And there was the rhythm of names being recited.

Eighteen years have passed since terrorists commandeered airplanes to take aim at the World Trade Center and bring them down.

The paper then posted an updated version of the tweet noting the correct number of people killed in the terror attacks (rather than the airplane attacks):

There is just no excuse, zero, zilch, nada, for the way this story was first presented. How many editors did it pass through before it went to publication? And for it to be done by the so-called “newspaper of record”, which is headquartered in the city that faced the brunt of the 9/11 attacks, it’s just flat out unacceptable.

I would be shocked if the paper doesn’t see a rise in people unsubscribing from it after today. Between the anti-Semitism, the TDS that clouds the judgment of their mainstream media reporters, and now this, the paper is literally not worth the paper it is written on anymore.

Westlake Legal Group Towers Where I Was On September 11 War Front Page Stories Featured Story Until September 11, 2001, I worked in the World Trade Center, halfway up Tower One. I wasn’t doing political blogging at the time, but was writing “the Baseball Crank” as a weekly baseball column for the online edition of the Providence (R.I.) Journal. Here’s my account of that day, written for ProJo two days later while it was all still fresh. We run this every year on the anniversary.

On Tuesday, they tried to kill me.

I am ordinarily at my desk between 7:30 and 8:30 in the morning, in my office on the 54th floor of one of the World Trade Center’s towers. Tuesday, I was running late – I stopped to vote in the primary election for mayor, an election that has now been postponed indefinitely. Thank God for petty partisan politics.

Around 20 minutes to 9, as I have done every day for the past five years, I got on the number 2/3 train heading to Park Place, an underground stop roughly a block and a half, connected underground, to the Trade Center. The train made its usual stop at Chambers Street, five blocks north of my office, where you can switch to the local 1/9 that runs directly into the Trade Center mall. The subway announcer – in a rare, audible announcement – was telling people to stay on the 2/3 because the tunnel was blocked by a train ahead of us. Then he mentioned that there had been “an explosion at the World Trade Center.”

Now, I grew up in the suburbs, so maybe I’m not as street smart as I should be, but after living in the city a few years, you develop a sense of the signs of trouble (like the time there were shots fired in the next subway car from mine). I didn’t know what the explosion was, maybe a gas leak or something, but I knew that I was better off getting above ground to see what was going on rather than enter the complex underground. So I got off the train to walk to work.

When I got above ground, there was a crowd gathering to see the horror above: a big hole somewhere in the top 15-20 stories of the north tower (having no sense of direction, I thought that was Number 2 at the time, not Number 1 where my office was), with flames and smoke shooting out. I quickly realized it would not be safe to go into the office, despite a number of things I had waiting for me to do, so as I heard the chatter around about there having been a plane crash into the building (onlookers were saying “a small plane” at that point) and a possible terrorist attack, I turned away to start looking for a place to get coffee and read the newspaper until I could find out what had happened. That was when it happened.

The sound was a large BANG!, the unmistakable sound of an explosion but with almost the tone of cars colliding, except much louder. My initial thought was that something had exploded out of the cavity atop the tower closer to us and gone . . . where? It was followed by a scene straight out of every bad TV movie and Japanese monster flick: simultaneously, everyone around me was screaming and running away. I didn’t have time to look and see what I was running from; I just took off, hoping to get away from whatever it was, in case it was falling towards us. Nothing else can compare to the adrenaline rush of feeling the imminent presence of deadly danger. And I kept moving north.

Once people said that a second plane had hit the other tower, and I saw it was around halfway up – right where my office was, I thought, still confused about which tower was which – it also appeared that the towers had survived the assault. I used to joke about this, telling people we worked in the only office building in America that had been proven to be bomb-resistant. I stopped now and then, first at a pay phone where I called my family, but couldn’t hear the other end. I stopped in a few bars, calling to say I was OK, but I still didn’t feel safe, and I kept moving north. In one bar I saw the south tower collapse, and had a sick feeling in my stomach, which increased exponentially when I saw Tower Number One, with my office in it and (so far as I knew) many of the people I work with as well, cave in. Official business hours start at 9:30, but I started reeling off in my head all the lawyers who get in early in the morning, and have for years. I thought of the guy who cleans the coffee machines, someone I barely speak to but see every day, who has to be in at that hour. I was still nervous, and decided not to think about anything but getting out alive. A friend has an apartment on 109th street, so I called him and kept walking, arriving on his doorstep around 1 p.m., and finally sat down, with my briefcase, the last remnant of my office. I had carried a bunch of newspapers and my brown-bag lunch more than 120 blocks. The TV was on, but only CBS was broadcasting – everyone else’s signal had gone out of the Trade Center’s antenna.

Finally, the news got better. I jumped when there were planes overhead, but they were F-15s, ours. American combat aircraft flying with deadly seriousness over Manhattan. My wife was home, and she had heard from people at the office who got out alive. It turns out that my law firm was extraordinarily lucky to get so many people out – nearly everyone is now accounted for, although you hold your breath and pray until it’s absolutely everyone. The architect who designed the towers – well, we used to complain a lot that the windows were too narrow, but the strength of those buildings, how they stayed standing for an hour and an hour and a half, respectively, after taking a direct hit by a plane full of gasoline – there are probably 10 to 15,000 people walking around New York today because they stayed up so long.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

By Wednesday night, the adrenaline was finally wearing off, and I was just angry. They had tried to kill me, had nearly killed many of the people I work with, and destroyed the chair I sit in everyday, the desk I work at and the computer I do my work on. And that’s before you even begin to count the other lives lost. Words fail to capture the mourning, and in this area it’s everywhere. I finally broke down Thursday morning, reading newspaper accounts of all the firemen who were missing or dead, so many who had survived so many dangers before, and ran headlong into something far more serious, far more intentional. My dad was a cop, my uncle a fireman. It was too close.

The mind starts to grasp onto the little things, photos of the kids and from my wedding; the radio in my office that I listened to so many Mets games on, working late; a copy of my picture with Ted Williams (more on that some other day); the little Shea Stadium tin on my desk that played “take me out to the ballgame” when you opened it to get a binder clip, the new calculator I bought over the weekend. All vaporized or strewn halfway across the harbor. The things can mostly be replaced, they’re just things, but it’s staggering to see the whole context of your daily routine disappear because somebody – not “faceless cowards,” really, but somebody in particular with a particular agenda and particular friends around the world – wants you dead.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

There’s a scene that comes to mind, and I’m placing it in the Lord of the Rings because that’s where I remember it, but feel free to let me know if I’ve mangled it or made it up. Frodo the hobbit has lived all his life in the Shire, where the world of hobbits (short, human-like creatures) revolves around hospitality and particular etiquette and family snobbery and all the silliest little things, silly at least in comparison to the great and dangerous adventure he finds himself embarked on. Aragorn, one of the Men, has been patrolling the area around the Shire for years, warding off invading creatures of all varieties of evil. Frodo asks Aragorn, eventually, whether he isn’t frustrated with and contemptuous of hobbits and the small, simple concerns that dominate their existence, when such dangers are all at hand. Aragorn responds that, to the contrary, it is the simpleness and even the pettiness of the hobbits that makes the task worthwhile, because it’s proof that he has done his job – kept them so safe and insulated from the horrors all around them that they see no irony, no embarrassment in concerning themselves with such trivial things in such a hazardous world. It has often struck me that you could ask no better description of the role of law enforcement and the military, keeping us so safe that we may while our days on the ups and downs of made-up games.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

And that’s why baseball still matters. There must be time for mourning, of course, so much mourning, and time as well to feel secure that 55,000 people can gather safely in one place. The merciful thing is that because, save for the Super Bowl and the Olympics, U.S. sports are so little followed in the places these evildoers breed – murderous men, by contrast, have little interest in pennant races – that they have not acquired the symbolic power of our financial and military centers. But that may not be forever.

But once we feel secure to try, we owe it most of all to those who protect us as well as those who died to resume the most trivial of our pursuits. Our freedom is best expressed not when we stand in defiance or strike back with collective will, but when we are able again to view Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens as the yardsticks by which we measure nastiness, to bicker over games. That’s why the Baseball Crank will be back. This column may be on hiatus for an undetermined time while the demands of work intrude – we intend to be back in business next week, and this will not be without considerable effort – but in time, I will offer again my opinion of why it would be positively criminal to give Ichiro the MVP, and why it is scandalous that Bill Mazeroski is in the Hall of Fame. And then I’ll be free again.

Born In A World At War

Westlake Legal Group 9-11-september-eleventh-620x325 Born In A World At War War Terrorism terror September 11 school History Front Page Stories Featured Story Education Allow Media Exception 9/11

Eighteen years ago today, a series of airplane crashes changed the world.

These crashes were no accident. The September 11th terror attacks were a well-orchestrated strike into the hearts of Americans, killing so many of our countrymen and injecting a new and terrible fear into the hearts of us all.

The strikes brought down the World Trade Center in New York, a section of the Pentagon, and aimed to take out the White House (had it not been for the heroic actions of the Americans on board of the final plane, sending it instead into a field in Pennsylvania). They kept us out of sports arenas and large gatherings for fear of what might happen next. The United States began taking steps toward war to punish those responsible – a terror organization deep in the heart of the Middle East.

That war and the wars that followed have not ended since they started.

Across America today, there are students who are learning about this event in a solely historical context – this year’s graduating high school seniors were either less than a year old or not even born when the attacks happened. Yet, the world they are growing up in is a world built upon those attacks.

Many of them have parents in the military, who even now serve overseas in the same places that spawned the terrorists who attacked us. Others have family that has been lost in those conflicts. Still others come from families who support the war or families who oppose it.

The politics inspired by those terror attacks and the wars in the Middle East have shaped family discourse. While not solely due to the September 11th attacks, what has happened in the political realm has undoubtedly been shaped by them. Because of that, we now live in a very politically-charged era. Kids are becoming all-too-aware of the toxicity of it all, and it bleeds into the classroom.

It’s a world that they know all-to-well, but it’s not the world that my generation (the beloved millennial generation) and those older than I always knew. Sure, we can look at several events through history that have changed the world, and we can argue many generations have their own similar historical world-shaping events. It’s also true that this generation may well come to witness an event that shapes their worldview like September 11th, Pearl Harbor, the assassination of JFK, and other events affected previous generations.

With September 11th the most current of those events, however, it’s important for those of us old enough to remember it to explain why and how the world has changed. There are far too many people even in our media and political establishments who pretend as though history began sometime after 2002.

That type of worldview, the type that ignores the context of the times we live in, is actually dangerous. Context is what makes history something to learn from. Simply memorizing the dates and people and events of history isn’t enough. The context that makes them important fill in the gaps, and lead us from one event to the other, making it more than a timeline but an explanation of why the world is the way it is.

The students in our classrooms today need to understand the context of their world. They need to know the context of the world as it was before and leading up to September 11, 2001, and they need to understand the world now as it has been affected by those terror attacks.

California’s Dem Officials Fear Trump Will Treat the Homeless Better Than They Do

As covered earlier today, homeless people in Los Angeles are dying in record numbers as a result of the “caring” neglect their government has inflicted upon them.

Fortunately, representatives from the Trump administration are in Los Angeles to get a firsthand look at conditions on the ground and meet with local officials. The Washington Post reported:

Administration officials have discussed using the federal government to get homeless people off the streets of Los Angeles and other cities and into new government-backed facilities, according to two officials briefed on the planning.

Among the ideas under consideration are razing existing tent camps for the homeless, creating new temporary facilities and refurbishing existing government facilities, two other officials said. The officials spoke on the condition of anonymity because the planning hasn’t been publicly revealed. The changes would attempt to give the federal government a larger role in supervising housing and health care for residents.

Response from the Golden State’s Democrat elite to the news of federal interest and involvement in the issue was mixed. Los Angeles City Councilman Mike Bonin quickly Chicken-Littled on Twitter.

Inhumane treatment? Do you mean like the homeless man who was burned alive on Skid Row just a few weeks ago? Or the man suffering delusions and chronic mental illness who was found dead on Sepulveda Boulevard in Westwood on September 1? Or maybe the people sleeping in a Taco Bell parking lot in Bonin’s own district?

Bonin’s entire tweet thread shows how completely detached from reality he is. If you’ve got a strong beverage nearby, consider perusing it.

Some members of Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti’s staff expressed appreciation for the federal government’s interest, while one staffer…had another attitude.

“They don’t know the work that we’re doing,” said Breelyn Pete, chief of state and federal affairs for Garcetti.

“They’re just not thoughtful — and, quite frankly, not smart enough to know what we’re doing.” She added: “I hope that doesn’t get me in trouble.”

There we go. The same “we are smarter than everyone so they need to shut up and let us handle everything” liberal attitude that put the entire Los Angeles region at risk of contracting horrific medieval diseases. Spare us, Breelyn, and get an extra lemongrass shot in your cold pressed juice in Silver Lake. While you hopscotch over feces and used hypodermic needles. Because we know you’re tryyyying.

A spokesman for Gov. Gavin Newsom was a little more diplomatic in his comments.

“Every level of government — including federal — should step up and put skin in the game. If the president is willing to put serious solutions — with real investment — on the table, California stands ready to talk. He could start by ending his plans to cut food stamps, gut health care for low-income people, and scare immigrant families from accessing government services.”

Just a little.

People in Los Angeles and its suburbs are sick of political posturing and bickering. As conditions worsen by the week, they just want the blustering idiots who’ve created the problem to stop playing games with their lives.

The Fight Continues: Arnold Schwarzenneger Claims President Trump is in Love with Him

Hollywood Republican — and, also, oddly, former Democratic Governor of California — Arnold Schwarzenneger makes a big announcement about the President of the United States in October’s issue of Men’s Health: Donald Trump wants to be him.

In fact, according to the 72-year-old star, Trump’s “in love” with him.

And that’s real talk:

“That’s the reality of it. With Trump, he wants to be me. I don’t think he fears me. But I remember that in the old days, when we went to the wrestling matches, the way he admired people with bodies, and the way they would jump around in the ring, and to perform physical stunts and stuff like that — he had great admiration for that.”

There’s appeared to be a bit of friction between the two for quite some time.

When The Apprentice brought on Arnold as its new host, Trump’s competitive spirit came out in…well, let’s say bold fashion:

In turn, Arnie set out to terminate POTUS:

As pointed out by The Daily Wire, Schwarzenneger even placed the show’s tanking on Trump.

From an interview in Variety:

“I loved every second of working with NBC and Mark Burnett. Everyone — from the celebrities to the crew to the marketing department — was a straight 10, and I would absolutely work with all of them again on a show that doesn’t have this baggage. With Trump being involved in the show, people have a bad taste and don’t want to participate as a spectator or as a sponsor or in any other way support the show. It’s a very divisive period now, and I think this show got caught up in all that division.”

Do you think he’s right? Did the the new host or the old host sink the show?

Either way, there’s evidently still some bad blood between the two.

So who ya got? — a Democrat who became a Republican running the nation, or a Republican who became a Democratic running California?

I think Arnold tried, but he appeared to fall short of his promised immovable stance in Sacramento.

And now they’re two men face-to-face.

I guess it makes sense that Donald’s in love with Arnold, a white man — as we all know, he absolutely hates women and minorities.

Congressional Democrat’s Wife Goes on Rant Because Her Marriage Counseling Isn’t 100% Covered by Taxpayers

South Carolina Democrat Joe Cunningham is currently serving his first term in Congress, and the job comes with a nifty perk: Members are granted access to Blue Cross and Blue Shield healthcare coverage via Obama’s “gold” plans.

According to CNBC, participation leaves users responsible for approximately a quarter of the premiums.

But at least one recipient ain’t impressed: Last week, Joe’s wife, Amanda, took to Instagram to complain. And she let her followers know she’ll be taking the issue to her man.

Joe may not be that receptive to his wife’s grievance, though; apparently, the pair are having a bit of the ol’ marital difficulties — which, of course, Amanda also shared. Along with more:

“I’m gonna have a little bit of a rant here on social media because I think this is important. I’ve been going over my not-a-bill bill here from Blue Cross Blue Shield, and realizing that once again, all of my mental health therapy sessions are denied, in addition to all of our marriage counseling sessions.”

Amanda sounds like a let-it-all-hang-out kinda gal. But she’s determined to hold onto her money, even if it takes her writing it into law:

“It’s just mind-blowing to me that these basic well-known needs, that mental health is health care, are still being denied, that we’re still fighting for these absolutely basic things, it’s unbelievable to me. So I’m reaching out to my congressman—yes, also my husband—but saying, like, Hey, what can we do about this? Let’s go to the House floor, let’s write a bill, I don’t know what you do, but let’s do it because this is ridiculous.’”

She was just befuddled. And stupefied. And discombobulated. And another really cool word:

“This affects us, our family, it affects everyone else who’s seeking mental health and needs support doing so. I’m just flabbergasted.”

As reported by The Washington Free Beacon, Amanda isn’t the only one disappointed with her government-supplied health benefits.

Democratic Iowa Rep. Cindy Axne told her constituents in August, “‘You really don’t want what I have, because I don’t get good insurance.”

It’s only so-so:

“It’s okay insurance. Just so you know, congresspeople, we have to purchase from the ACA [Affordable Care Act], we purchase from the network.”

Amanda Cunningham — who works part-time as development director for a women’s nonprofit — is determined to change that.

I like this couple — in January, capitol security busted Joe for smuggling a 6-pack of beer onto the House floor.

He explained himself in a tweet:

Maybe he can schmooze and booze his way to the marital bliss of free counseling.

Hey — I wonder if it dawned on Amanda that she was telling viewers she wanted them to pay for even more of her health services?

Aw, I still like ’em.

Here’s the Most Probable Reason Why CNN Ran That Garbage Story on Trump and the Intel Agent Extraction

In the past 24 hours, we’ve witnessed CNN push out a story involving President Trump and the facts surrounding why CIA extracted a supposedly high level intelligence asset from Russia. As their story went, they were deeply concerned about Trump exposing classified information, therefore they decided at that moment that they had to get the agent out.

As so often turns out, this was complete, partisan spun nonsense. My colleague streiff reported on the new revelations this morning.

But the government had indicated that the source existed long before Mr. Trump took office, first in formally accusing Russia of interference in October 2016 and then when intelligence officials declassified parts of their assessment about the interference campaign for public release in January 2017. News agencies, including NBC, began reporting around that time about Mr. Putin’s involvement in the election sabotage and on the C.I.A.’s possible sources for the assessment.

The following month, The Washington Post reported that the C.I.A.’s conclusions relied on “sourcing deep inside the Russian government.” And The New York Times later published articles disclosing details about the source.

The news reporting in the spring and summer of 2017 convinced United States government officials that they had to update and revive their extraction plan, according to people familiar the matter.

The extraction had nothing to do with Trump. It was not only planned months before, in a hilarious turn, it was actually the media’s reckless and political behavior that caused the CIA to have to pull the plug. Will they take responsibility for it?

Of course not.

That’s Jim Sciutto (who first pushed out this likely Fusion GPS laced garbage) claiming that reports that debunked his original assertions “confirmed” his story. These people live on another planet and CNN has reached levels of delusion that MSNBC would be envious of.

The real question is, just who was this intel agent and what exactly was he sharing with the U.S. government in 2016.

Before we answer that, we first have ask ourselves why this story is coming out now. None of these anonymous leaks happen by coincidence. There’s always a reason for them and history says it’s typically to get out ahead of stories that may damage these bureaucracies. For example, when it became clear that the FBI could no longer lie about the Trump campaign being spied on, unnamed officials ran to The New York Times to spin the ordeal and paint the FBI’s intentions as pure.

We’ve seen this play out time and time again and there’s plenty of reason to think it’s happening again. The chief suspicion here is that this intel agent was actually feeding disinformation back to the FBI (intentionally or unintentionally), which helped feed the Russia collusion hysteria that’s now blown up in orbit.

Sean Davis over at The Federalist lays this out.

Notice the reporters who’ve pushed this story. Jim Sciutto at CNN, a former Obama operative. Ken Dilinian over at NBC, who actually outed the agent’s location last night, has been a mouth piece for Fusion GPS since the beginning of this saga. The fact that these same people are the ones behind this latest botched hit piece tell us a lot.

Something is coming and there’s a need for certain officials to get ahead of the story and plant their own narrative. By blaming Donald Trump, they were hoping to pin all of this on the undisciplined nature of the President instead of what really caused it — their own leaks to the press.

Bill Barr is quietly working behind the scenes on this. As Sean says, it’s likely he knows who the players were at this point and they have every reason to start putting their finger on the scale to cover their tails. The pillars that once formed the basis for the Trump-Russia investigation continue to crumble and a lot of people are going to be caught in the rubble. The go to play for them in the past has been to run to sympathetic, anti-Trump media sources and paint their actions as being duty bound instead of corrupt. That’s exactly what this latest story was. They want to paint this intel agent as more than he was, heroically saving the nation from Russian interference. Was he providing verifiable intelligence or disinformation being fed to him by the Russians he thought he was spying on?

Right now, most signs point to the latter. Especially given the latest reporting that he’s now living in public, under his real name, in the Washington D.C. area with no apparent fear for his life. Does that sound like a super important intelligence asset to you or the FBI/CIA trying to cover up their flub? I’ll let you decide.
