More Reason to Love It: Chick-fil-A Employee Jumps Out the Window & Saves a Little Boy’s Life in the Drive-Thru (Video)

How great is Chick-fil-A?

Well, not only will they stick to their commitment where faith is concerned — being closed on Sunday — and not only will they provide delicious waffle fries, perfect milkshakes, and the most important pickle in the world…but they’ll also save your child’s life when he’s choking.

On Wednesday in Flowery Branch, Georgia, a restaurant employee looked out the drive-thru window and spotted a struggling 6-year-old in a car in the drive-thru lane. The kid couldn’t breathe!

Hence, Logan Simmons jumped out the window, ran to the car, and took care of business.

The kid’s mom was begging for someone to help save her little boy, whose neck was tangled in a seatbelt.

Logan:

“You could see he was turning red and losing pigmentation in his face … I just jumped out the window and ran straight down to the car. I think it was the quickest option. It was right there, and I saw the other car right there.”

What’s a handy sandwich employee to do? This: He whipped out his trusty pocketknife and cut the kid free.

Logan’s own mom recounted to Atlanta’s WSBTV2:

“He’d been home for a couple of hours and he said nonchalantly, ‘I saved a kid’s life today,’ and I was like, ‘What?’ I’m amazed he didn’t panic. As his mother, I would have panicked. I’d be running around, going, ‘Oh my gosh! What do we do?’”

An hour after the heroic move, the grateful mother of the little boy called to thank him again.

So if you needed another reason to love Chick-fil-A, there ya have it.

Enjoy the video above.

DéJà Vu: CA Judge Bars Trump From Using Military Funds to Build Border Wall

In response to two lawsuits, U.S. District Court Judge Haywood Gilliam ruled on Friday that the Trump administration could not use military funds to pay for construction of a border wall.

The first lawsuits had been brought by a group which includes the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the Sierra Club, and the Southern Border Communities Coalition.

Following a losing battle with House Democrats to secure funding for the wall, President Trump declared a national emergency and diverted $6.7 billion of mostly military funds to pay for the wall. Specifically, $3.6 billion was to come from military construction funds, $2.5 billion from Defense Department counterdrug activities and $600 million from the Treasury Department’s asset forfeiture fund.

Gilliam’s ruling bars Trump from tapping the $2.5 billion from Defense Department counterdrug activities and has stopped construction at various sites in New Mexico, California, Arizona and Texas. Gilliam, obviously, is an Obama appointee.

Trump administration attorneys maintained that it was lawful to to use the military funds because the national emergency was “unforeseen.” Additionally, they “claimed that if they are unable to award the federal dollars to contractors by the end of the fiscal year, they may lose the funding.”

Gilliam’s ruling stated:

The administration lawyers present no new evidence or argument for why the court should depart from its prior decision, and it will not…

Because no new factual or legal arguments persuade the court that its analysis in the preliminary injunction order was wrong, [the groups’] likelihood of success on the merits has ripened into actual success.

Gilliam also wrote that the plaintiffs would “suffer irreparable harm” because it “will harm their ability to recreate in and otherwise enjoy public land along the border.”

He added that he does not “minimize the administration’s interest in border security,” but stated that “the balance of hardships and public interest favors is in favor of the groups opposing the wall.”

According to The Hill, Gilliam did not rule on whether or not the “administration was in violation of the National Environmental Policy Act.”

ACLU attorney Dror Ladin put out a statement which said, “Congress was clear in denying funds for Trump’s xenophobic obsession with a wasteful, harmful wall. This decision upholds the basic principle that the president has no power to spend taxpayer money without Congress’ approval.”

Sierra attorney Gloria Smith, issued a statement which said they

Applaud the court’s decision to protect our Constitution, communities, and the environment today.

We’ve seen the damage that the ever-expanding border wall has inflicted on communities and the environment for decades. Walls divide neighborhoods, worsen dangerous flooding, destroy lands and wildlife, and waste resources that should instead be used on the infrastructure these communities truly need.

The second lawsuit was brought on behalf of the states of New Mexico and California, which claimed that construction “would damage the environment and infringe upon” those states’ rights. Gilliam agreed with them, “but determined that they did not reach the bar needed for him to issue a permanent injunction in that case.”

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, who obviously was happy with the rulings, issued a statement as well:

The rulings critically stop President Trump’s illegal money grab to divert $2.5 billion of unauthorized funding for his pet project.

All President Trump has succeeded in building is a constitutional crisis, threatening immediate harm to our state. President Trump said he didn’t have to do this and that he would be unsuccessful in court. Today we proved that statement true.

President Trump, understandably, was angry with Gillian’s ruling and has vowed to appeal. At a G20 press conference, Trump called the decision a “disgrace” and said “We’re immediately appealing it and we think we’ll win the appeal. There was no reason that that should have happened.”

Some Never Trump Figures Suddenly Discover What Other Republicans Did Years Ago

Westlake Legal Group Brooks-620x349 Some Never Trump Figures Suddenly Discover What Other Republicans Did Years Ago Trump voters Trump The New York Times radicalism Progressivism Politics Jennifer Rubin Front Page Stories Front Page Flight 93 Election Featured Story Far Left donald trump democrats Democrat Party democrat debate David Brooks bret stephens ana navarro 2020 election 2018 Election

An interesting thing happened in some Never Trump circles after the Democratic primary debates ended last Thursday night. While it won’t change the calculous of those we are about to discuss, it at least has them finally admitting the imperfect reality that drove the decision of many Trump voters in 2016.

To preface, we need to establish exactly what group of Never Trump figures we are talking about here.

The movement made a dramatic split in 2018 before the mid-term elections. While some Never Trump members realized that supporting Democrats to flex their opposition to Trump was a foolhardy move that did nothing to move the ball forward, there was a not insignificant contingent of the Never Trump movement that outright endorsed electing Democrats across the board, not just in 2018, but preemptively for 2020 also.

It just so happened that many of these Never Trump figures also had the biggest platforms. People like David Brooks, Bret Stephens, David Frum, Bill Kristol, Ann Navarro, and Jennifer Rubin all came out in support of electing Democrats.

That’s the group being discussed in this article and the distinction is important. While I may disagree with the other faction of Never Trump’s reasoning for abstaining, I can at least understand their position. What I can’t do is respect those supporting Democrats simply to go after Donald Trump, something no real conservative could ever actually justify with any appeal to principle. For the purpose of this article, I’m addressing the latter group, many of whom I named above.

With that out of the way, I want to focus on two articles published this week by Never Trump leaders David Brooks and Bret Stephens, both writers for The New York Times.

In a pathetic plea to a party that’s been objectively catering to the far-left for well over a decade, David Brooks begs Democrats to not continue being leftwing because it may drive him away.

I’ll also note that while Brooks makes claims of morality in his piece, he’s got a story much akin to insufferable moralist Charlie Sykes. Namely, he cheated on his wife and then married his researcher. Many of these people are not the best voices to make the moral case against Trump.

Before we get into the dynamics of all this though, here’s Stephens’ similar piece to compare.

I’m left scratching my head by what I’m reading.

What exactly did any of these Never Trump voices think the Democrat party was? Are they really claiming any of this is new?

Although they’ll never admit it, they are actually articulating the issue that led millions of otherwise Trump skeptics in 2016 to go ahead and vote for him. When given a choice between generally conservative policy, past affairs, and Twitter bluster vs. voting for Hillary Clinton and a radically progressive Democrat party, many made the former choice.

For that they got savaged by people like David Brooks and Bret Stephens as being unprincipled sell-outs, bad Christians, and hypocrites. All for deciding that making a choice was preferable to not making a choice.

Suddenly, these people are discovering that the Democrat party isn’t actually a viable alternative after pushing to vote for it in 2018 and 2020 until now? Come on.

While Brooks and Stephens make their case for the Democrat party to moderate, they are getting exactly the answers they deserve.

Did they really think the Democrat party was going to welcome them with open arms? Conform to their viewpoints? If they did, then their judgement is shown to be even worse than I thought.

This was always the actual offer, even as they thumbed their nose at those saying that actively pushing the Democrat party was a self-destructive move.

Given that, why would Brooks or Stephens ever think that going to the Democrat party was a viable option?  I don’t know, but Trump makes people do weird things.

Here’s my position. If you want to not vote for Trump, I’m not going to berate you for that. In the face of what we saw up on that stage Wednesday and Thursday, I can’t agree with that decision, but there’s daylight between not voting for Trump and outright pushing the radicalism of the Democrat party just to spite Trump.

In the case of Never Trumpers who endorsed Democrats and asked Americans to vote for them despite those of us who said that’s a ridiculous notion, they don’t get to now pretend the radicalism of the left is a new, unforeseen thing bursting on the scene in mid-2019.

That reality has been apparent to many of us for years and it was the reason many decided voting for Trump made the most sense 2016.

Had those specific Never Trump figures handled the matter differently instead of resorting to attacking the personal morality of Republican voters, I could perhaps muster some sympathy for the position Brooks, Stephens, and others now find themselves in.

But they didn’t and I don’t. So enjoy your new friends.

Beto Insists Central Americans Have ‘No Choice’ but to Attempt Illegal Immigration Because You Starved Them with Your ‘Excesses’

Beto O’Rourke seems desperate to win.

The kind of desperate that results in things like his inexplicable Spanish mid-debate.

Or how about this: In an apparent effort to appeal to the commoners, he vowed to destroy America’s privileged millionaires (here). Curiously, he evidently forgot that he’s a what? A privileged millionaire — he inherited his millions, and his wife’s father is worth $500 million.

Dear Beto,

If you want to preach the destruction of privileged wealth, you have to give away all yours first. That’s the easiest one to destroy — your own. Make a donation. Give it all away. Lead by example. Otherwise, informed voters’ll think you’re a goob.

Personally, I don’t think you should surrender your riches; but I also don’t believe you have the right to strip others of theirs.

Continuing his strained attempt at the brass ring of Popular Candidate, on Wednesday, Beto claimed that Mexicans and Central Americans have “no choice” but to try to get into America without going through the provided system in order to get into America — aka immigration.

And — lest you think it isn’t your fault — those folks are having to not go through America’s immigration system (?) because of you and me (and Beto?). You see, our “excesses” caused global warming. And that caused drought. And that caused all the people to have to come here.

I’m not clear as to why they were forced to not utilize our immigration system, but this is a campaign so let’s just go with it.

Here’s Beto, while visiting Florida’s Homestead Temporary Shelter for Unaccompanied Children. Oh — one more thing: We’re dumb when it comes to science (like here?).

Take the floor, Beto:

“[W]e’ve got to remember that they are fleeing the deadliest countries on the face of the planet today compounded by drought that was caused not by God, not by mother nature, but by us. Man-made climate change, our emissions, our excesses, our inaction in the face of the facts and the science — when it is that deadly, and when you’re unable to grow your own food to feed yourself, you have no choice but to come here.”

Does he believe everyone in Mexico and Central America has to grow their own food?

Either way, it’s your fault, ExcessPeople.

Apart from his marriage, 46-year-0ld Beto’s worth $9 million. The median net worth of the American family at his age is $124,000. Can he, then, just take responsibility for illegal immigration and leave us out of it?

And if he’s done something so crappy as to force all these people to uproot themselves and involuntarily attempt to break the law, how is it that he deserves to be president? If we were to elect someone responsible for such a turd move, we might not even be a country worth being forced to sneak into.

More questions to be answered, as we continue on this bizarro path to 2020.

-ALEX

Trump Can Defeat Iran Without Firing A Single Shot; The Numbers Tell The Story

Westlake Legal Group trump-iran-SCREENSHOT-620x332 Trump Can Defeat Iran Without Firing A Single Shot; The Numbers Tell The Story President Trump National Security iran sanctions iran nuclear deal iran drone attack Iran Front Page Stories Featured Story donald trump Allow Media Exception

Iran recently shot down a U.S. drone valued at $125 million and we were outraged. What many Americans don’t understand is that, even before Trump’s newly imposed sanctions, the daily loss of oil revenue to Iran caused by the existing sanctions is estimated at $120 million. So, every day, Iran loses almost as much revenue as the U.S. drone costs.

(Note: Business Insider’s Alex Lockie arrived at the $120 million figure based upon the price of crude on June 24th.)

Iran is losing $3.6 million in revenue each month or $43.8 billion per year.

According to U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) estimates, “Iran’s oil net export revenue totaled $55 billion in 2017,” the last full year before Trump pulled out of Obama’s Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the Iran nuclear deal.

President Trump reimposed sanctions against Iran in November. He then ratcheted up the pain in May by ending sanctions waivers to countries that were importing Iranian oil.

Prior to Trump’s executive order last week which imposed new sanctions against Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other top government officials, one Iranian compared the nation’s level of pain to feeling one’s “bones breaking.” In other words, the sanctions were eliciting the desired effect.

(Note: EIA estimates are based on tanker-tracking data reported by ClipperData.)

Reuters reported last week that Iran’s crude oil exports in June have fallen to 300,000 barrels per day (bpd). In Aril 2018, the month before Trump exited the Iran nuclear deal, Iran’s oil exports averaged 2.5 million bpd.

In addition to severe financial pain, Iran has other problems. Business Insider reports that their “currency has crashed, and the country has become gripped by protests and strikes. And it has felt a crackdown on the financial freedom for all of its citizens.”

According to the Associated Press, “Inflation is over 37%, according to government statistics. More than 3 million people, or 12% of working-age citizens, are unemployed. That rate doubles for educated youth.”

The Organization for Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) is scheduled to meet in Vienna on Monday and Tuesday to determine if they will increase their rate of oil production in the second half of 2019. President Trump has called on OPEC to increase output to help bring down oil prices which hit a high of $75 in April before falling back to $66.

Reuters’ Alex Lawyer writes that Trump’s sanctions have deepened the impact of OPEC’s supply cuts. He wrote that “OPEC, Russia and other non-members, an alliance known as OPEC+, agreed in December to reduce supply by 1.2 million barrels per day from Jan. 1. OPEC’s share of the cut is 800,000 bpd, to be delivered by 11 members – all except Iran, Libya and Venezuela.” They are expected to renew the accord next week.

It cannot be denied that Trump’s sanctions have crippled the Iranian economy and will continue to do so. Will this be enough to bring the country’s leadership to the negotiating table? I’m not so sure about that. But it sure is an effective way to fight a war.

Ocasio-Cortez Attempts to Pander to Christians Again, and It Blows Up In Her Face

Westlake Legal Group AlexandriaOcasioCortez-June2019-620x317 Ocasio-Cortez Attempts to Pander to Christians Again, and It Blows Up In Her Face socialism Politics pandering Front Page Stories Featured Story Faith democrats Culture & Faith Christianity AOC Allow Media Exception Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

If there’s one thing we know about Rep. Alexandria Ocaiso-Cortez (D) it’s that she is a seasoned panderer. I can’t say that she’s an expert at it at this time due to the fact that her pandering often times ends up going horribly for her.

The latest attempt was once again aimed at getting Christians to side with her on socialism.

An article written by Obery M. Hendricks Jr. at Sojourner attempted to sell us on the Biblical values of AOC’s socialism. The congresswoman couldn’t wait to show off just how into the faith she was by tweeting out about it with a Bible verse she cherry picked.

“Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me,” tweeted AOC.

Christians immediately showed up to laugh her off the stage.

To be clear, as I explain in detail, Jesus was not a socialist. Every now and again, socialists like AOC will attempt to sell us a narrative that Christ supports government seizure of the means of production. It’s a lazy narrative that’s backed by very little evidence, and as AOC demonstrates, it usually boils down to cherry picking various verses out of the Bible in order to back their point. As usual, a little education goes a long way to clearing the narrative that socialism attempts to dirty.

Ocasio-Cortez has attempted to hijack Biblical narratives and lessons multiple times in the past, and it’s never worked out for her. For one, she attempted to get Christians on board with her stance on illegal immigration by telling us that Jesus was a refugee. As I explained quite clearly, he wasn’t at all. A surface level look at the story of Jesus may lead one to believe he seemed like one, but even just scratching the surface shows us that he doesn’t qualify for the role.

The truth is that AOC doesn’t really care about Christians and Christianity. Sure she walks around with ashes on her forehead during Ash Wednesday…

But then she’ll go on to tell us that prayers don’t work. Ya know, prayers. The primary means of communication with almighty God and a cornerstone of the Christian faith. For someone so filled with faith, you’d think she’d have a much higher regard for it.

Ocasio-Cortez sees Christianity as useful, but she doesn’t seem to be looking for Christ. She’ll embrace it with the intention to pander to Christians who she thinks are stupid enough to be won over by quoting cherry picked Bible verses, then ditch it the moment its usefulness has run its course.

America Vastly Overestimates the Size of the LGBT Community According to Study

Westlake Legal Group man-pedestrian-people-road-street-crowd-506472-pxhere.com_-620x413 America Vastly Overestimates the Size of the LGBT Community According to Study study Population Politics LGBT Lesbian gay gallup Front Page Stories Featured Story Allow Media Exception

With things like the LGBT movement dominating entire months, and so much advocacy and activism being dedicated to the community, you’d think that gay and lesbians exist around every corner. However, according to a new Gallup study, America has it vastly overestimated how large the LGBT community is, and it’s all that advocacy and activism it has to thank for it.

According to James Barrett at the Daily Wire, U.S. adults typically guess that nearly a quarter of the population calls in one of the categories that consist of the LGBT movement. In truth, that number is way, way off:

“U.S. adults estimate that nearly one in four Americans (23.6%) are gay or lesbian. Gallup has previously found that Americans have greatly overestimated the U.S. gay population, recording similar average estimates of 24.6% in 2011 and 23.2% in 2015,” the group reports.

That estimate is “more than five times Gallup’s more encompassing 2017 estimate that 4.5% of Americans are LGBT, based on respondents’ self-identification as being lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender,” Gallup explains. When the estimates are broken down by demographics, even the most conservative estimates still remain about four times higher than the 4.5% estimated actual number.

The group is actually very small, but according to Gallup, it receives an inordinate amount of attention and creates the illusion that it’s much larger than it actually is:

Overestimations of the nation’s gay population may in part be due to the group’s outsized visibility. An annual report by GLAAD, an LGBT advocacy group, found that representation of LGBT people as television series regulars on broadcast primetime scripted programming reached an all-time high of 8.8% in the 2018-2019 television season, which is nearly twice Gallup’s estimate of the actual population.

Media, politicians, and activist groups dedicate tons of attention and screen time to a group that, in truth, makes up just a small percentage of the population. You see activist groups push hard for acceptance of even the most extreme behaviors and are told that this is the way society is going and we should just accept it. You see people come out in droves to participate in Pride parades.

In reality, society isn’t going in that direction. The vast majority of us don’t subscribe to it. Many are lending their support to it for various reasons. They may truly believe in it, or some just find supporting it a trendy thing to do since it’s shoved in our faces by the mainstream media. An entire month is dedicated to it, and we’re told not supporting it makes us bigots.

To be clear, members of the LGBT community are Americans that deserve the same amount of respect as everyone else, but we’re being consistently told they deserve more to the point of praising them for being gay or lesbian. This creates conflict, and the fight against the social takeover creates a very loud battlefield, further lending to the idea that this is a much larger community than we’re told.

We’re looking at a very large shadow being cast on the wall by a very small rabbit.

Reddit Ignores Calls for Violence On Left-Leaning Subreddits Despite Censoring Pro-Trump Subreddit

Westlake Legal Group conservatives-silenced-620x326 Reddit Ignores Calls for Violence On Left-Leaning Subreddits Despite Censoring Pro-Trump Subreddit Violence threats subreddit Social Media Reddit r/the_donald Politics Internet Front Page Stories Featured Story donald trump Censorship Allow Media Exception

Reddit recently gagged the subreddit r/The_Donald with a “quarantine” that essentially makes the subreddit invisible unless you go searching directly for it. When you do, it asks you if you want to see the content within, giving you the impression that it’s dangerous.

It’s not.

The subreddit is a pro-Trump room that, as its defenders describe it in an article by Cullen McCue at Reality Circuit, is a pro-Trump, pro-law enforcement community within Reddit. It’s also a very large community that is heavily policed by its own moderators. However, from time to time, bad characters are going to pop up. Typically, any calls for violence or overt shows of racism are removed from the subreddit with the commenter banned.

However, because it’s a pro-Trump subreddit, it’s been the target of multiple left-leaning groups:

Like any online community, r/the_donald is subject to any number of characters. You’ve got trolls, people who never leave the internet and full on radicals. Sure you can ban their accounts/remove comments – as r/the_donald has always done – but there will still be out of bounds content that seeps through the cracks. Any reasonable person can understand this, but there are agendas at play here.

R/the_donald has long been a target of Reddit. Subs like r/againsthatesubreddits – Reddit’s version of Media Matters – have long had the sub in their cross-hairs. Reddit is also an overwhelmingly left-leaning site as a whole, so TD has always been under increased scrutiny.

Interestingly, as McCue points out, far left subreddits are typically left well alone, and even members from groups like Antifa have a subreddit where they congregate, and calls for violence are often ignored:

Since Reddit is overwhelmingly left-wing (and a recipient of Chinese investment), far left subreddits are undisturbed. R/ChapoTrapHouse is the home of every edgy socialist you’ve ever met. Ya know that kid you vaguely remember from high school who posts Antifa tier shit on Facebook to the point where you unfriend him, but is a skin and bones pussy when you run into him at the grocery store? This subreddit is where they all congregate.

Chapo is filled with calls to violence, edgelord reactions to the suffering of their political opponents and just overall scumbaggotry. R/LateStageCapitalism is more of the same and supposedly “neutral subs” like r/politics are only populated by the most radical of leftists. Calls to violence (not removed and with up-votes) have been well documented there, in r/news, r/pics and other subs.

McCue then gave a massive list of threats and calls for violence. Here are some of the highlights.

  • r/LateStageCapitalism MOD announcement – “No one can reasonably argue that the Republican congressmen shot today didn’t deserve it. They absolutely did. They created this situation of unparalleled division. They’re trying to destroy society to line their own pockets.”
  • r/politics “Let’s put arsenic in drinks and slip it to Trump supporters”
  • [Regarding Republicans] “What else can be done?”  “Going to the homes of Republican lawmakers in the middle of the night  dragging them into the street and turning them into tree ornaments [Lynching].” [+37]
  • “We’re getting to the point that it’s past the need for protest  but time for violent and extreme actions. The government needs to be reminded that is has a reason to be afraid of us.”
  • r/anarchism praising the stabbing of a Trump supporter just for being white

There’s plenty more than that.

Reddit is filthy with left-leaning conspiracy theories and calls for radicalism, yet these often go untouched because no one is really looking into them as they are right-leaning or pro-Trump subreddits.

More importantly, they see that pro-Trump subreddits are perfect distribution centers of information that runs contrary to leftist and mainstream narratives. Silicon Valley’s recent drive to harness the flow of information to make it harder to counteract the lies is what made the r/The-Donald subreddit a quarantine zone, not any kind of violent rhetoric.

In case you haven’t heard, Americans in favor of brown people being immigrants — that is, coming into the land of the free and home of the brave via its immigration system — are anti-brown-people-immigrants.

I haven’t quite been able to make sense of it yet, but that’s the word on the street.

And AOC’s chief of staff — Saikat Chakrabarti — is apparently no stranger to the street.

Therefore:

The tweet was in reference to H.R.3401 — the Emergency Supplemental Appropriations for Humanitarian Assistance and Security at the Southern Border Act. It “provides $4.5 billion in FY2019 emergency supplemental appropriations to federal departments and agencies for humanitarian assistance and security to respond to migrants attempting to enter the United States at the southern border.”

After deleting his post, Saikat tried to clarify:

It’s as if someone “kidnapped a bunch of children”??

Next, “concentration camps” (here, here, and here):

Saikat uses the word “immigrants” here, but he clearly has no intention to mean immigrants (as described at the beginning of this article):

If you’re into border laws, you’re like the KKK:

Jimmy Carter Says Trump ‘Didn’t Actually Win the Election’

Earlier today, former President Jimmy Carter called President Donald Trump an “illegitimate” president who “didn’t actually win the election in 2016.”

Carter made the comments at a Carter Center conference in Virginia. USA Today’s Susan Page was the first to report about it, posting several tweets detailing remarks made at the conference. Carter’s Vice President, Walter Mondale, also spoke at the conference and accused Trump of showing “symptoms of psychological problems.”

A transcript of Carter’s comments, via Mediate:

“I think the interference, though not yet quantified, should be fully investigated and would show that Trump didn’t actually win the election in 2016, he lost the election,” Carter said.

“He was put into office because the Russians interfered,” he said. Carter was then asked if that meant he believed Trump was illegitimate.

“Based on what I said, which I can’t retract,” Carter responded, prompting laughter from the audience.

Video of the conference is also posted at C-SPAN.

Americans have differing opinions about the scope and impact of Russian interference in the 2016 election, largely based on their partisan allegiances, but one thing that we do not have is evidence of Russians (or any other country, entity, or individual) hacking actual ballots or vote totals.

People cast ballots across the country in the 2016 presidential election, and more people in enough states voted for Trump over Hillary Clinton to give him more electoral votes. He “actually” did win the election. Therefore, Donald Trump is a “legitimate” president. This is not complicated.

There are plenty of reasons to be critical of Trump and prefer another candidate for president in 2020. Carter has the same free speech rights as the rest of us to voice such opinions and encourage Americans to vote against Trump next year. But peddling in these kinds of delusional conspiracy theories risks becoming a sad footnote on Carter’s final years of life.

The 94-year-old former peanut farmer had some notorious struggles and policy failures during his one term in the White House, but avoided personal scandals and is widely respected for his Christian faith and volunteer service, perhaps most notably for Habitat for Humanity.

Stick with building houses, Mr. President. Tin foil hats aren’t a good look for you.
