Phoenix’s mayor is apologizing for the egregious acts of officers against an unarmed family that included a toddler and a baby.

If you haven’t heard about the insanity in Arizona, here it is:

Last month, 22-year-old Dravon Ames and his 24-year-old fiancée, Iesha Harper, took a trip to their local Family Dollar. In tow were daughters London and Island, ages 1 and 4 respectively.

Purportedly unbeknownst to the parents, Island took a doll from the store.

Cops were tipped off that the bunch had shoplifted.

When the four arrived at their babysitter’s apartment complex, all hell broke loose — including the Hades of cops pointing their guns at pregnant Iesha and her infant.

Here’s a bit of recap from NPR:

Cell phone videos taken by witnesses show officers shouting profanities at the family as officers order that they put their hands up. If they did not comply, an officer can be heard saying, “you’re gonna f***ing get shot. Get your f***ing hands up!”

Police wrote in an incident report that they feared the mother was “hiding something” or was reaching for a gun. (No weapons were recovered from the family.)

In the parents’ civil rights claim, they say when Harper exited the vehicle, officers injured her 1-year-old daughter by pulling on one of her arms when Harper would not follow an officer’s order to hand over her baby.

The filing from the family alleges that Ames was thrown against a vehicle and kicked so hard that he collapsed before a police officer “kept his knee between the father’s legs. He punched the father very hard in the back for no reason,” the parents’ lawyer, Thomas Horne, wrote in the claim.

Harper passed off her baby to a bystander before police handcuffed her and her fiancé and they were placed in a police patrol car.

“I could have shot you in front of your f***ing kids,” an officer said to her, according to the family’s claim.

Check out the video for yourself:

I normally refrain from using this word to describe people’s actions, but I don’t think it’s out of line to call at least two of the officers’ behavior hateful.

However, more information has come to light, as relayed by the city’s police chief, Jeri Williams, to local ABC15:

“[We] respond to a call of individuals — adults — who are stealing property from a business. When officers go to make initial contact, they run out of the store. We make a traffic stop. … We arrest one lady who’s charged with warrants later. The car flees again. From there, I get it: That’s where the language, that’s where the unprofessional conduct, that’s where the lack of professionalism really stood out. It’s troubling, it’s challenging…definitely not representative of the 2900 officers that we have in Phoenix.”

An anchor responded:

“[T]his piles on to a mountain of complaints. Last year, we had a record number of officer-involved shootings, sadly. … And that is excessive force to a lot of people.”

You’ll find more discussion about the police report — and some things left out of it — in the video at the bottom of this article.

The doll was returned to Family Dollar, and no one was charged with shoplifting. Dravon was ticketed for driving on a suspended license. His car was impounded.

He says he’s limping from the episode, and the couple maintains their 4-year-old is having nightmares.

The family’s claiming battery, unlawful imprisonment, and emotional distress. They’re suing the city for $10 million.

On Saturday evening, Mayor Kate Gallego issued an apology via Twitter and called for a community meeting to be held on June 18th (the day of this posting). She also announced that every Phoenix officer will soon be outfitted with body cameras:

I look forward to learning for you, including those of you who are experienced in law enforcement.

Cyberpunk 2020’s Description of What Sociopolitical America Would Be Like Is Borderline Prophetic

Westlake Legal Group police-ferguson-620x341 Cyberpunk 2020’s Description of What Sociopolitical America Would Be Like Is Borderline Prophetic Social Justice Sexism Ross Winn racism Prophecy Politics Mike Pondsmith Identity politics Gaming Front Page Stories Featured Story Cyberpunk 2020 Allow Media Exception 2020

At the tail end of the last century, we believed the future would have cool things like flying cars and hoverboards. We did end up getting some pretty stellar things, such as instantaneous communication and the ability to have a fresh pizza show up at your door by pressing the screen a few times on your handheld computer phone. However, what we mostly got was a first world so cocky and unbothered that it began becoming overly concerned about things that shouldn’t matter that much.

For instance, society has become unnecessarily obsessed with representation and equality in outcome. Everyone is special, whether they earned that label or not. They’ve become focused on identities and the politics that go with it, and any kind of resistance against this kind of identitarian thinking will see you labeled as a social pariah, guilty of every “ist” and “phobe” they can throw at you, whether you’re guilty of being that or not.

And the accused very often isn’t guilty.

In 1994, a tabletop role-playing game created by Mike Pondsmith was issuing a rule supplemental for the game Cyberpunk 2020 called “Neo Tribes,” written by Ross Winn.

In the description of the world created for players to roleplay in, Winn, reportedly under Pondsmith’s guidance, described how the dystopian future would look in 2020. While it’s not as fantastically futuristic as Pondsmith envisioned back in the mid-90’s, Winn’s description of the socio-political landscape is so accurate that it could almost be considered prophetic.

The description, according to the 95′ supplemental, begins with the title “Diversity and Unity” and then proceeds to describe what is unmistakenly the time we live in today.

It is now accepted among historical scholars that in the decades before the Collapse, America suffered from the sickness of racism and “cultural identity.” Everyone wanted to be seen as special. Every group had to be “equal” to or preferably better than its neighbors, and fought to protect its “special” rights. If anyone had something that someone else wanted, they were painted as racist, sexist, elitist, or worse. This divisive “me first” attitude eventually tore the fabric of American culture apart and caused it to self-destruct in a fireball of competing ideologies, none of which truly recognized each other’s validity. Diversity led inexorably to anarchy.

This is an unbelievable prediction, even given the fact that Pondsmith was seeing the seeds of identitarianism being planted when he began writing in in the 70’s. The creepy accuracy with which we see the world operate today compared to the description of America in 2020 is only inaccurate in the fact that it’s 2019, less than a year off.

Today, we consistently see everyone from transgender activists to black lives matter members punishing people who aren’t a part of their ideology in some way, shape or form. University campuses are attempting to shut down dissent, using violence and more, from anyone questioning the near-religious tenets of their identity’s supposed ideological beliefs.

The social justice community is, as the Cyberpunk 2020 description says, tearing the fabric of American culture apart.

Pondsmith isn’t the only one who made oddly accurate prophecies about the near future. Carl Sagan, in his book “The Demon-Haunted World” also made predictions that America would dumb itself down without noticing it’s doing so, and that the powerful would be utilizing technology in order to disperse only the information it chooses for you to see.

Joy Behar Compassionately Tells Kyle Kashuv to Take a Year off From College to “Contemplate Your Racism”

Co-host Joy Behar speaks on “The View” – 6/18/19. Screen grab via ABC.

Since the news broke of Parkland shooting survivor and gun rights activist Kyle Kashuv’s excommunication from attending Harvard because of racist and anti-Semitic remarks he made online at age 16, there have been a lot of varying opinions expressed on the subject.

Perhaps no opinion was more anticipated than that of “The View’s” Joy Behar, who weighed in on the controversy today in exactly the manner you’d expect from a compassionate liberal.

Scott Whitlock at Newsbusters sets the scene:

Discussing the teen on Tuesday’s show, the liberal Behar unleashed: “[People] say that young people do these kind of things, that they need to get a lesson. They need to take a lesson from this. Well, this is the lesson. The lesson is you’re not getting into Harvard, okay? Take your gap year to contemplate your racism. That would be a productive year.”

Fake Republican Ana Navarro wasn’t much better:

ANA NAVARRO: Moral character matters, and what can I tell you? Kyle, the bad news is you can’t go to Harvard if you’re a sexist misogynist but you can grow up to be president.

BEHAR: He could go to Trump University. They would take him.

Not mentioned: He maybe could become the governor of Virginia, if only he was a hypocritical Democrat and gun control activist.

Watch video of the segment below:

Just spitballin’ here, but can we get Behar to take a year each off from “The View” for all of the mistakes she’s ever made? Pretty please? I don’t think it’s too much to ask her to hold herself to the same standards to which she holds conservatives

In the interests of fairness and consistency, of course.

Former Republican Congressman Compares Parkland Survivor Kyle Kashuv to a School Shooter

Rep. David Jolly, R-Fla., answers questions from reporters, on Capitol Hill in Washington, Tuesday, June 14, 2016, after members of the House of Representatives received a closed intelligence briefing from FBI Director James Comey and Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson on the mass shooting at an LGBT club in Orlando. (AP Photo/J. Scott Applewhite)

Some exchanges just make you shake your head and this is one of those.

David Jolly is a former Republican Congressman from Florida who lost to Charlie Crist in 2016. He has since championed himself as a Trump critic and made that the staple of his political personality. After contemplating another run for Congress in 2018, he decided against it, citing that he wanted to focus on seeing the President ousted via a primary challenger in 2020. Jolly would eventually leave the Republican party in 2018 and has become a frequent guest on MSNBC.

I’m not going to spend five hundred words running down the wisdom of Jolly’s moves because it’s been done to death. What I will say is that some Trump opponents handle that transition better than others.

Here’s some evidence that Jolly isn’t handling it all that well.

I’m going to use NewsBusters for the transcript here, along with their emphasis added.

The former Republican congressman immediately denied that there was anything political with this decision, also swiping at Trump: “I don’t….I think this is the perfect story for our time. Within our culture, we have leaders who are given greater permission to racist statements…They are given greater equity. It is important for Harvard to say, no the in our community.”

He’s clearly taking a shot at Donald Trump here. What is Jolly even talking about? I’ve seen no evidence that any leader has been given greater permission to make “racist statements.” Quite the contrary in fact.

Secondly, the idea that Harvard is making a virtuous stand here is laughable. Harvard has had slave holders at their college. They’ve got former criminals there right now. But Kyle Kashuv is a bridge too far? Give me a break. This is blatantly political.

Kyle Kashuv is not a racist. He’s a kid who was trying to out shock his friends in a private conversation and said something dumb. Far be it from me to chastise a 16 year old for being stupid. That’s pretty much the definition of being 16. There is zero evidence that Kyle is actually prejudice or has ever acted in a discriminatory manner. What kind of society says to a teenager that they are irreparably damaged because they made some bad jokes to their friends in high school?

Such standards aren’t just disgusting, they are dangerous. Who gets to decide who’s banished now and how does this not lead the furthering of tense divisions in our country?

Jolly then got into the meat of his comments and things got really nasty.

[T]hese are the social media postings we see of a shooter and ask where were the signs?... We see a shooter. We go back and look at social media posts. This is exactly what we see...These are the exact posts we find of people, particularly those who advocate for stronger gun rights who has been given an audience with the president of the United States in the oval office, by Nikki Haley as well, vice president Mike Pence, an invited guest to a rally to speak for Matt Gaetz and Ron Desantis, who was a speaker at the NRA recently.

What in the actual…

It’s one of those quotes where you have to double check that it’s real. But it’s real and it’s in the video above. David Jolly compares a school shooting survivor to a school shooter. His basis? That Kashuv supports the 2nd amendment and once made some immature jokes with friends. On what planet does any of that correlate to shooting up a school? Because it’s certainly not this one.

Furthermore, even if you believe this nonsense, why in the world would you think it’s ok to say on national TV? Where’s the decency?

I’m old enough to remember when Laura Ingraham was boycotted for taking a shot at David Hogg following one of his many profanity laced attacks on conservatives. In that case, at least there was some provocation given Hogg’s insertion of himself into a clearly political arena. Here, we have a shooting survivor being equated with a school shooter over a situation that wasn’t even political. Worse, outside of right-wing media, no one in the press is batting an eye. It’s astonishing and gross.

I don’t know what Jolly was thinking here but I can speculate. As I said at the beginning of this article, some Trump opponents handle the transition better than others. Max Boot would be an example of someone who handles it horribly. They get these big media jobs and there’s a pervasive pressure to tell their new liberal audiences what they want to hear. Jolly seems like a guy who’s just slipped to far and he’s playing to the crowd.

If you want to claim to be principled, the way to do that is not to let your opposition to Trump drive you into saying insane things. Jolly crossed the line today and he deserves to be condemned for it.

In life, a traditional bit of good advice is, “Don’t act like an idiot.”

To be fair, everybody acts like an idiot; we just can’t help ourselves. The planet’s crawlin’ with over 7 billion idiots.

But there’s a level of idiocy that transcends the norm — the physical acting out of being an idiot: the idiot who gets mad and peels out in their vehicle to express attitude, inadvertently crashing it; the idiot who throws punches at the Walmart cashier because they’re having a bad day. Or — to use a real-life example I’ve covered — the Dollar General customer who stabs a fellow patron because he points out that she farted (please see here).

In October, Jordan Hunt became one such exceptional idiot when he roundhouse-kicked peacefully-demonstrating Marie-Claire Bissonnette…like a huge idiot.

Ladies and gentlemen:

Marie’s had a hard time as a pro-life advocate:

“I’ve had teenage boys throw rocks at me, I’ve also had men saying, ‘How would you like it if I raped you?”

And Jordan’s had a hard time not being a…well, here he is again, attacking someone and trying to take their sign, while — it appears — nearly pushing them into traffic (language warning):

As for his inclination toward tyrannical taekwondo, the woman-abusing, violent hairdresser got fired from his job after the stunt.

Additionally, the goob was hit with eight counts of assault and seven counts of mischief.

From Newsweek:

The police statement also alleged that Hunt was involved in a similar incident in August. While riding on a bicycle, Hunt allegedly approached a group of activists in Toronto and tried to take away one of their signs. When the protestors fought back, Hunt pushed one of the women into a pole. He then fled the scene.

Police have charged Hunt with one count of assault for his actions in August—bringing the total assault charge count to nine. The September incident took place near High Park-Swansea. The August incident took place at the intersection of Dufferin St and Dundas St West.

Speaking to the Toronto Sun last week, 27-year-old Bissonnette said she did not see the physical attack coming. “He kicked me in the shoulder, my phone went flying,” Bissonnette said. “I start shouting for someone to call police and before he runs away, he goes up to me and I had a ribbon on my jacket indicating [I was] the leader, he tore it off my chest.”

Well, now a judgement’s been meted. For his intolerance of opposing views — otherwise known as “bigotry” (see more from the Left here) — Jordan’s been sentenced to 8 months probation and ordered to stay 100 meters (roughly 330 feet) from pro-lifers. The restraining order seems like a good idea.

From LifeSite:

Hunt, 27…apologized to “everyone I hurt by my actions” in an undated letter which Justice Michael Block read out to the court.

“Everyone should have the right to be without fear when they act on their beliefs. I sincerely regret that I chose such a poor way of expressing myself,” wrote Hunt.

“My behavior was foolish and unacceptable, and I wish to apologize to the people I hurt. I want them to know that I learned a lot since these incidents. This behavior will not be repeated and I am truly remorseful for my actions.”

[Justice Block] ordered Hunt to make restitution within 30 days through his probation officer for damages he caused at the Life Chain: $50 to one victim to replace a jacket he defaced, and $150 to Campaign Life Coalition for a sign he destroyed.

Block further granted Crown attorney Nathan Kruger’s request that Hunt submit a sample of his DNA, given that he assaulted pro-life advocates on two separate occasions and fled the scene both times.

So there ya go.

Is this a satisfying end? Please let us all know in the Comments section.

Hopefully, thus ends hairdressing left-winger Jordan Hunt’s days of being a toxically masculine bigot.

Maybe from now on, he’ll take the advice of Dwayne Johnson (here).

Dan Crenshaw Brings Fire, Facts in Response to AOC Tripling Down on “Concentration Camps” Claim

Westlake Legal Group media.townhall-1-2-620x317 Dan Crenshaw Brings Fire, Facts in Response to AOC Tripling Down on “Concentration Camps” Claim washington D.C. Texas Social Media republicans Politics North Carolina New York immigration Illegal Immigration Front Page Stories Front Page Featured Story Featured Post democrats Dan Crenshaw Culture Congress AOC Allow Media Exception Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

As I wrote earlier, Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) called out Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY-14) on Twitter today over an absurd comparison of border detention centers to concentration camps she made during an Instagram Live video Monday night.

To recap, Cheney told Ocasio-Cortez to “do us all a favor and spend just a few minutes learning some actual history. 6 million Jews were exterminated in the Holocaust. You demean their memory and disgrace yourself with comments like this.”

AOC doubled down in response, asking Cheney “I’m curious: What do YOU call building mass camps of people being detained without a trial? How would you dress up DHS’s mass separation of thousands children at the border from their parents?”

Cheney responded again with some important facts AOC didn’t know overlooked.

Earlier in the day, AOC tried to defend herself from “shrieking Republicans” on this issue, but she ended up looking even more foolish:

After reading about what his Congressional colleague on the other side of the aisle said, Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX-2) took to the Twitter machine to help set the record straight:

He continued on in the next tweet by putting the pressure on Ocasio-Cortez and other Democrats in the House to approve the $4.5 billion in funding President Trump has requested to alleviate the humanitarian crisis at the border:

Indeed. As I noted in my prior post on this topic, Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) plans on calling the left’s bluff on this issue next week.

As to AOC, I think this gif sums up her expertise on border issues and Holocaust history pretty well:

Don’t tell Her Highness that, though, because in spite of claiming a lack of expertise in the past, nowadays she wants every one to believe that she’s never wrong – no matter how wrong she is.

Justin Trudeau Ramps Up Climate Rhetoric and Hopes We Don’t Notice They’re Not That Serious

Westlake Legal Group climatechange-620x310 Justin Trudeau Ramps Up Climate Rhetoric and Hopes We Don’t Notice They’re Not That Serious Straw ban martial law Justin Trudeau Global Warming Front Page Stories Featured Story fear emergency Climate Change Climate Canada

I am the child of hippies.

Personal marijuana plants, weekend campouts with the grown-ups playing guitars and dancing around the fire. Living off the grid, growing our own food, hitchhiking to town for groceries – I’ve done it all. I’ve got my hippie-kid bonafides and the emotional scars to prove it.

Just kidding on that last part. I actually remember all those people fondly.

However, what typically comes along with the hippie lifestyle is an obsession with the environment. Our whole lives centered around saving the earth from certain pending disaster. We didn’t buy fruit from oil-rich countries because of BIG OIL. We tried not to use brand products from BIG CORPORATE because of their production pollution. We grew our own vegetables (a fun thing) and composted (a not-so fun thing).

Every day was filled with small choices that could mean life and death for humanity. No aerosols came through our house because of the hole in the ozone layer. We didn’t even buy french fries from the local production facility (we lived in potato farming country) because their smokestacks polluted the air and would eventually lead to a sudden and painful obliteration of humanity due to acid rain. I can still see the cover of popular national news magazine on my mother’s dining room table, showing a dark and foreboding seaside storm raining debris and hell down on a quickly disappearing shoreline.

The seas would rise and overtake us all in 30 years if we didn’t do something now!

Ted Danson showed up in special tv ads to tell me that we had a mere 20 years to prevent the next ice age. I spent many a sleepless night staring up at the sky looking for any sign of the damnation that was set to descend at any moment.

Of course, all that destruction depended on whether or not we survived the coming nuclear holocaust. Obviously.

The world has been almost dead for 40 years and more. Why it just keeps not dying seems to be a question no one can – or wants to – discuss. It seems like there are a lot of people who have a lot invested in keeping us terrified. The irony of my mother’s aversion to BIG CORPORATE is that the environmental lobby has become exactly that. Environmentalism is a brand now and the advertising and rebranding campaigns come fast and furious these days.

I was alive when we just called all this ‘air pollution’ and I was still around when we switched that to global cooling and then that changed to global warming and global warming changed to climate change and now climate change has given way to climate instability. When people roll their eyes at the well-intentioned environmentalists out there this is why.

We should be good stewards of our planet and each other. That means being responsible in our consumption and in our commitment to being good neighbors. So much modern climate legislation is based around controlling the economy and access to progress. The rich never struggle to catch up. The legislation always rains down on the poor – like acid rain, eating away at their already meager income.

There is a way to discuss taking care of our earth without turning into authoritarian maniacs. Legislation isn’t the only (or even the right) answer to climate concerns. Neither is fear.

Canada is currently wading through yet another tidal wave of climate hysteria. Prime Minister Trudeau is dealing with a failing government, crushing debt and a hush-hush border crisis (at least on this side of the border) but he’s chosen to use this time in his nation’s history to ban plastic straws. As someone who has lived under the poverty line and still works as an advocate for such people I can say with confidence that no poor people are worried about their damn straws. They want work, a better commute, a nicer home, an education and more time with their family.

How do you get those people to care about your climate legislation that will cost them more of their hard-earned dollars? You make sure they know they might die at the hands of climate warming cooling change instability at any second.

It’s all irresponsible and cruel posturing.

When Trump first took office and the Literally HitlerWestlake Legal Group 2122 Justin Trudeau Ramps Up Climate Rhetoric and Hopes We Don’t Notice They’re Not That Serious Straw ban martial law Justin Trudeau Global Warming Front Page Stories Featured Story fear emergency Climate Change Climate Canada talk began I heard a talk show host scolding those who were using the rhetoric. He said his father had fled Poland when the Nazis showed up, and that’s how he knew Trump wasn’t really Literally HitlerWestlake Legal Group 2122 Justin Trudeau Ramps Up Climate Rhetoric and Hopes We Don’t Notice They’re Not That Serious Straw ban martial law Justin Trudeau Global Warming Front Page Stories Featured Story fear emergency Climate Change Climate Canada because when you’re faced with a terrifying evil like Hitler you run. You don’t tweet, and complain and knit vagina hats. You run for your life.

The United States and Canada continue to have people risking their lives to run here.

It’s the same with the climate debate. If we are 12 years from destruction (or 20 or 2 or 40 or whatever the arbitrary number of the day is) then it is incumbent upon our leaders to take drastic action. If we are now collectively Literally HitlerWestlake Legal Group 2122 Justin Trudeau Ramps Up Climate Rhetoric and Hopes We Don’t Notice They’re Not That Serious Straw ban martial law Justin Trudeau Global Warming Front Page Stories Featured Story fear emergency Climate Change Climate Canada and we’re about to obliterate the planet, then politicians must act. Declare martial law, shut down transportation channels, end oil, lock the populations down.

Of course they don’t and never will, because the climate discussion has gone from an idea of well-intentioned hippies like my parents to a lucrative industry in which people willingly transfer their wealth to the government and to our political enemies abroad out of fear.

Is Canada about to die? Only until campaign season is over. Then it will just keep living until the next time it’s supposed to die and the politicians will just keep telling us how much more control they need to fix the problem. Either climate change catches up to us or we defeat it through all out war on humanity. Funny how neither ever happens. After all, politicians can’t keep lining their pockets if all the taxpayers have been legislated into POW camps until the earth heals.

Canadian politics is every bit as ugly as American politics, and despite their reputation for being the politest people on earth there are plenty of awful, lying creeps in Ottawa. They’re ramping up to election season and thus so is their rhetoric.

Climate change has become a weapon, and the result has been to weaken the earth’s case for care instead of strengthen it.

The Justin Trudeaus of the world will keep using their own plastic straws and flying their private 747s to remote vacation destinations and the rest of us will be left to look up at the sky at night and wait for it to fall…any second now.

Dwayne Johnson’s Acceptance Speech Turns Back the Clock to Traditional Values with a Much-Needed Life Lesson

Just take a quick look at Dwayne Johnson’s resume, and it’s stunningly clear the guy’s a very hard worker. Additionally, word on the street is he’s a really nice guy.

And I like him.

A little bit more, in fact, after his 2019 MTV Movie & TV Awards acceptance speech for the Generation Award honor.

Award shows, in my opinion, aren’t particularly gripping; neither are most speeches. But Dwayne’s presentation did something few speeches do: It revived a pearl of wisdom so old, it’s downright corny.

But it shouldn’t be.

The world seems to be spinning at an accelerated rate — so fast, in fact, that the morals and values of old are flying off of it. Things once considered sacred are shooting off the planet like mist from a shaking, drying dog. And we’re not the better for it.

In his speech to America’s youth, Dwayne reminded everyone of something any good grandmother taught her rugrats once upon a time: One of the most important things you can ever do is be a nice person.

In this modern political-trolling-bickering-attacking lousy climate, that sounds so…yesterday (see more here).

But Dwayne brought sexy back.

The Rock was introduced with a rundown of his achievements: college football at the University of Miami, wrestling domination, television triumph, movie stardom.

Then Dwayne came out dancing in tribute to his Samoan roots, by way of Queen’s “We Will Rock You.”

And here’s some of what the hard-working nice guy had to say:

“Thank you. Thank you so much. … Thank you to MTV for this awesome — they’re really incredible — prestigious award.

“I also want to thank my family at home. My girls — I got a houseful of strong-a** women. But mainly, I want to thank the ones who make this whole thing happen. I want to thank you — the people, the fans. I thank you. All of you at home — you are the reason I’m getting this, so I wanna share a really quick lesson with you guys that I’ve learned over the years.”

I’m reminded of previous life lessons via acceptance speeches by Ashton Kutcher and Chris Pratt…Find Chris’s here; I’ll share Ashton’s at the bottom of this article. Check ’em out; they’re fantastic.

Dwayne told the crowd: In life, you have to be yourself.

And he’s right.

“When I first got to Hollywood — Hollywood, they didn’t know what the hell to do with me. I mean, I was this half-black, half-Samoan and six-foot-four, 275-pound pro wrestler. You know, I was told at that time, ‘Well, you got to be a certain way. You got to drop some weight. You’ve got to be somebody different. You got to stop working out. Stop doing the things that I love. You got to stop calling yourself The Rock.’ What?!”

Being someone other than himself made him “miserable”:

“And for years, I actually bought into it because you think, ‘Oh, that’s what I’m supposed to do.’ And I was miserable doing that. So I made a choice. And the choice was I wasn’t going to conform to Hollywood. Hollywood was going to conform to me. So, Hollywood conformed to me, and here I am with all of you getting the Generation Award. … What you saw here tonight, that’s who I am. I’m proudly half-black and half-Samoan and I wanted to bring those cultures here for the world to see. So yes, it’s important that you are your most authentic self.”

But that’s not all:

“I’m a walking example of that, but here’s the thing that I want to share with you guys: That’s not enough. Because there’s another side to being your authentic self, your true self – and that’s the side that the magic is on. That’s the side that’s gold. While yes, it’s important to be yourself – you’ve got to recognize the joy and the responsibility of bringing everybody with you. And you do that by being kind, by being compassionate, by being inclusive and straight up just being good to people because that matters.”

Enter Grandma Dwayne; I can just see him in his knitted sweater and apron, calling me inside to eat the cinnamon rolls he’s baked for me. And while I scarf ’em down — before I get back on my wide-handlebarred Huffy — he’s gonna give me this advice:

“When I was 15 years old, I heard a quote, and I will never forget. And I bring it with me everywhere I go, and it’s ingrained in my DNA. The quote is this: ‘It’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice.’ With that, I love you. I thank you. Drink your tequila. I will see you all down the road.”

Okay…well, Grandma shouldn’t be telling me — an 11-year-old with Pac-Man kneesocks — to drink Tequila. But you’ll forgive his irresponsible, alcohol-encouragin’ ways.

The Rock hit on the solid foundation of good behavior and happiness in life — be authentically nice to people.

And that’s advice worth taking.

Thanks, Grandma. And, if I may say so — you should cut down on your protein intake. A 70-year-old woman shouldn’t look like that. Your shoulders are huge…and I think you’re scarin’ Grandpa.

In Stunning Case of TDS, YouTuber Purchases Town and Renames It “Gay Hell” to Protest Trump

People have done some very odd things while suffering from horrible and pronounced cases of Trump Derangement Syndrome.

From coming together across the nation scream at the sky to declaring they’d prefer actual Nazis to him, President Donald Trump has inspired some insanely weird behavior from people. With what looks like five more years of his Presidency on the docket, it’s hard to imagine how much further people will go in order to express their newly found disorder.

Especially after one YouTuber literally purchased a town and changed its name in order to protest Trump.

According to NBC News, Elijah Daniel was upset after Trump refused to fly the LGBT flag above American embassies during Pride Month. In reaction, Daniel went out and purchased the tiny five-acre town of Hell, Michigan. He then renamed it “Gay Hell,” because that’ll show him:

He said it is an act of protest against the Trump administration’s recent rejection of requests from U.S. embassies to fly the rainbow flag, a symbol of gay pride, during the month of June in celebration of LGBTQ Pride Month.

The town is about 15 miles northwest of Ann Arbor and is believed to have a population of about 70 people.

“Ahead of pride month Trump’s administration put a ban on embassy’s flying pride flags,” Daniel tweeted. “So as of today, I am now the owner of Hell, Michigan. I bought the whole town. And my first act as owner, I have renamed my town to Gay Hell, MI. The only flags allowed to fly are pride.”

In fairness, Daniel said this is more of a funny way of trying to get his 500,000 strong audience of primarily 16 to 24-year-olds to get more involved in politics, with the hopeful goal of getting more people to visit Michigan.

It’s not being disclosed how much Daniel purchased the town for but according to NBC News, the commercial plot that was Hell was on the market for $900,000 back in 2016.

This isn’t the first time Daniel took over leadership of Hell either:

In August 2017, he paid $100 to become the mayor of Hell for a day, banned heterosexuality and was then impeached. He said his desire to become mayor was a joke in response to President Donald Trump’s restriction on travel to the United States from a handful of Muslim countries.

Sometimes, when I’m angry at someone, I too purchase towns and change the name to something that insults the person I’m angry with. People say I’m going a bit far, but I just tell them that how I act out due to my disorder is my business…and the business of the people whose town I just bought.
