Teen Vogue Is Now Promoting Prostitution to Its Young Female Readers

Westlake Legal Group 819ea0a3-15f6-4323-96f8-eec38438c490-620x317 Teen Vogue Is Now Promoting Prostitution to Its Young Female Readers Teen Vogue sexual harassment Sexual Assault Sex prostitution Politics murder Front Page Stories Featured Story Drugs crime Allow Media Exception abuse

I wouldn’t say society is a train wreck, but Teen Vogue is doing its level best to bring us there. Between promoting things like anal sex and abortion, it’s consistently proven itself to be the answer to the question “how close can you get to being Hustler magazine without showing any sex?”

In order to really solidify their place as one of the creepiest magazines in America, Teen Vogue is now promoting prostitution and “sex work” with the article “Why Sex Work Is Real Work” and tweeting it out with the line “Yes, sex work is real work!”

Within the article, the author attempts to promote the idea that prostitution should be cared about by using the same tactic the social justice advocates use to make anything a sacred cow…by making them into victims:

Still, continued criminalization of sex work and sex workers is a form of violence by governments and contributes to the high level of stigma and discrimination. A systematic review and meta-analysis led by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), for instance, has found that sex workers who have experienced “repressive policing” (including arrest, extortion, and violence from police) are three times more likely to experience sexual or physical violence.

The article even goes through the typical steps of talking about how this sex work falls under the umbrella of feminism, and that prostitutes suffer from police violence. The only positive thing it attributes to prostitution is the fact that legalized prostitution adds to the economy. Otherwise, it’s a woe-is-them article that doesn’t really justify why it’s shining a positive light on letting strangers pay to have sex with you to teen girls.

And I want to remind everyone that this is “Teen Vogue” publishing this article, a magazine that is aimed primarily at teens girls.

And when it comes to the problems of prostitution, teen girls and younger are the true victims. According to the National Institute 0f Justice, it’s primarily women who become prostitutes and enter the field at an early age as minors due to various reasons, including force, fraud, or, coercion.

While living this life they often go uneducated, become drug-addicted, and develop any true prospects in life. Abuse is rampant, and sadly so is murder. The risk to get a major sexually transmitted disease like HIV is also extremely high for prostitutes according to the CDC.

Oddly enough, Teen Vogue doesn’t mention any of this. In fact, if you were to read the article, you’d think being a prostitute is just an everyday thing that has no negative ramifications at all, except those who wish to think along moral lines. The article gives off the impression that sex workers wanting prostitution to be legalized, and that other countries do it, is evidence enough that it’s okay.

We know that because the author flat out wrote it.

“Evidence, not morality, should guide law reforms and sex work policy for full sex work decriminalization,” read the article.

Teen Vogue thinks that it’s doing something good by pushing prostitution on girls. That it’s somehow freeing and empowering them. What they’re actually doing is trying to lock girls into a life of abuse and danger that follows them around the rest of their lives.

Once again, Teen Vogue gives us another reason not to read them.

Turns Out the Reported Racist Delay of Harriet Tubman’s $20 Note Was Fake News

Westlake Legal Group mnuchin-1-620x331 Turns Out the Reported Racist Delay of Harriet Tubman’s $20 Note Was Fake News The New York Times Steve Mnuchin racism Politics Harriet Tubman Front Page Stories Front Page Featured Story fake news Engraving Bureau donald trump delay Barack Obama

A few weeks ago, it was announced that a new $20 bill graced by Harriet Tubman wouldn’t be shown in 2020.

This set off a wave of condemnation and claims of racism backed by absolutely no evidence of such. We are supposed to believe that Trump dislikes non-whites so much that he personally intervened in the situation and delayed the project. Here’s a taste of some of the stories that got pushed out.

This from the Southern Poverty Law Center.

But this decision – like so many of Trump’s statements, decisions, and policies – clearly seems undergirded by racism and misogyny. It is not lost on the American public that candidate Trump opposed putting Tubman on the $20 bill in 2016, calling the move “pure political correctness.” He offered to consider placing her portrait on the little-used or circulated $2 bill instead.

Here’s Newsweek reporting random tweets as newsworthy.

While Mnuchin maintained the delay in the $20 bill that would celebrate Tubman, who helped free dozens of slaves through the Underground Railroad, came down to “security” issues, many have dismissed that justification as an excuse for what they say is a combination of racism and “deep-seated misogyny” at play.

And The Daily Beast had this headline.

On the Harriest Tubman $20, Donald Trump Puts His (Racist) Money Where His (Racist) Mouth Is

You get the idea. Trump is a racist who likes Andrew Jackson and he doesn’t want Tubman on the $20 bill so he got involved here and commanded everyone to delay the project until after he leaves office, which is weird, because the same media chattering class have told me Trump isn’t going to voluntarily leave office.

Now, more details are coming out and as per usual, there’s a lot more to the story and none of it involves Donald Trump at all.

The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) fired back at The New York Times late last week over a report that Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin had intentionally delayed a new $20 bill bearing the image of Harriet Tubman for political reasons.

Here’s some of the official statement, along with a much more logical explanation of why a new note design wasn’t going to be shown in 2020. That’s important to remember because a new $20 bill with Tubman was never scheduled to be “released” in 2020, not even under Obama, despite the framing to the contrary.

Bureau of Engraving and Printing Director Len Olija confirmed in a statement last week that the BEP “was never going to unveil a note design in 2020.”

“To keep our currency safe and secure, it is unwise to give counterfeiters a look at a potential future note far in advance of a note going into circulation,” Olija wrote. “Additionally, if the concept of a note that was made public by the government were to change during that lengthy amount of time, it would create confusion in the global marketplace, further aiding counterfeiters.”

Olija then dispelled the Times’ reporting, writing that “no Bureau or Department official has ‘scrapped’ anything; it is too early to develop an integrated concept or design until security features are finalized. The aesthetics or look of the note has always come after and been driven by the security features.”

“The illustration published by the New York Times was a copy of an old Series note with the signatures of former officials, with a different image imposed on it,” Olija concluded. “It is not a new $20 note, as incorrectly stated by the New York Times, in any way, shape or form. The facsimile contained no security features or offset printing included on currency notes. There is nothing about that illustration that even begins to meet technical requirements for the next family of notes.”

The rest of the story here is that the Secret Service have been working on new security features to thwart counter-fitters for years. These will appear on the $10 and $5 bills first. Because there work is not completed yet, there is noway to actually reveal a new $20 bill design, nor is that something the Engraving Bureau would do anyway before going into print. In the sense that there is any “delay,” it’s spawned by the ongoing technological challenges in dealing with counter fitting.

Here’s the thing that’s frustrating about the reporting on this. If you read The New York Times article, you can pick out bits and pieces that add up to exactly what Olija says in the statement. Yet, the Times chose to fill their print space with wild conjecture and anonymously sourced nonsense to push a narrative anyway. There’s also the reality that Trump’s administration leaks like a sieve. If there was some grand conspiracy spurred by the President to delay the new $20 design, there’d be evidence of that out there.

A complete misconstruing of facts is also at play. As noted, the Tubman bill was never going to be released in 2020 and it’s still coming within a similar time frame as laid out by the Obama administration.

This entire thing is just nonsensical. Trump would have no incentive to purposely delay the project nor is there any evidence he intervened in any way whatsoever. Media outlets could have done the responsible thing here and not reported rank speculation and race baiting, but they chose to throw baseless red meat to the conspiratorial left anyway. They were, of course, happy to gobble it up.

Why Didn’t U.S. Cyber Command Brief Trump On Details of Russian Power Grid Operation?

Westlake Legal Group Kanye-Trump-2-620x827 Why Didn’t U.S. Cyber Command Brief Trump On Details of Russian Power Grid Operation? U.S. Cyber Command Russia President Trump New York Times National Security Mainstream Media Front Page Stories Featured Story democrats Cybersecurity Allow Media Exception

Over the weekend, the New York Times reported that U.S. Cyber Command (USCC) has intensified digital incursion into Russia’s power grid. They have been inserting “potentially crippling malware inside the Russian system at a depth and with an aggressiveness that had never been tried before.” One unnamed source told the Times this strategy could “potentially plunge Russia into darkness or cripple its military.” Here is a link to the article.

The reporters write that they’ve conducted interviews with “current and former government officials” over a three month period, yet most of the sources they cite are anonymous. The article does contain quotes from such officials as the commander of USCC, Gen. Paul M. Nakasone, and U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton, however, they come from remarks made during public appearances.

The United States should have such a system in place to serve as a deterrent to Russia or any other enemy plotting a cyber attack against the U.S.

The problem with the article is its implication that President Trump was not made fully aware of the details of CCSC’s operation. They wrote:

Two administration officials said they believed Mr. Trump had not been briefed in any detail about the steps to place ‘implants’—software code that can be used for surveillance or attack—inside the Russian grid.

Pentagon and intelligence officials described broad hesitation to go into detail with Mr. Trump about operations against Russia for concern over his reaction—and the possibility that he might countermand it or discuss it with foreign officials, as he did in 2017 when he mentioned a sensitive operation in Syria to the Russian foreign minister.

“Because the new law defines the actions in cyberspace as akin to traditional military activity on the ground, in the air or at sea, no such briefing would be necessary,” they added.

USCC did not act illegally. They had been granted new powers a year ago by both the President and Congress.

National Security Presidential Memoranda 13, which is classified, provided Gen. Nakasone with “far more leeway to conduct offensive online operations without receiving presidential approval.”

According to the NY Times:

The action inside the Russian electric grid appears to have been conducted under little-noticed new legal authorities, slipped into the military authorization bill passed by Congress last summer. The measure approved the routine conduct of “clandestine military activity” in cyberspace, to “deter, safeguard or defend against attacks or malicious cyberactivities against the United States.”

Under the law, those actions can now be authorized by the defense secretary without special presidential approval.

Even though USCC acted legally and the move certainly boosts U.S. national security, if the article is correct, it’s disturbing that Trump was not briefed.

The most important reason, and also the most obvious, is that he is the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces of the United States.  He is responsible for making all of the decisions in the event of a nuclear escalation and he must be kept aware of exactly what our capabilities are.

Secondly, if it is known that a President’s underlings feel free to make consequential decisions without consulting him, he appears weak. And as much as that fills liberal hearts with glee, it hurts America.

President Trump was put into a humiliating situation over the weekend. Upon seeing the article, he took to twitter:

And then, it escalated.

Government officials, especially Democrats, have a choice. Are they Americans first or are they Democrats first? Sadly, most of them have chosen the latter.

It Is Really, Really Stupid To Assume Trump Will Lose In 2020

Westlake Legal Group AP_18310189661571 It Is Really, Really Stupid To Assume Trump Will Lose In 2020 Presidential Election polls Polling Media john harwood internal polls History Front Page Stories Featured Story donald trump democrats Allow Media Exception 2020

Sometime over the weekend, ABC News received leaked internal polling from the Trump camp, showing abysmal performance against top Democrats in the 2020 field, and in the double digits. This followed a New York Times report from early last week saying that the Trump camp was panicking over numbers.

In response to these stories, the Trump campaign fired its pollsters and appear to be starting over on that front.

Now, there are two scenarios here. The first is that the Trump campaign is playing a long-term game using the classic Sun Tzu maxim of war: “Appear weak where you are strong, appear strong where you are weak.”

It is possible, I suppose, that the team is banking on Democrats thinking their numbers are going up and Trump’s are going down and it’s all because of their issues – like abortion, impeachment talk, etc. – finally breaking through to the general public and winning them over. This theory isn’t impossible, by any stretch, and it would be wonderful to see it played out.

However, it assumes that the entire Democratic Party will fall prey to this ploy, and given a lack of general response over the weekend to those internals, no one seems willing to jump fully in yet… except maybe Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who is now openly calling for war against Nancy Pelosi.

But there is a simpler answer here: Trump really is down in internal polling.

If that is the case, then people like John Harwood must be feeling pretty damn good right now, as they’re all saying the same thing:

Harwood may have a point here… if decades of recent American presidential history didn’t disagree with his assumption here: That polling a year out says anything at all about the state of the presidential election.

In February of 1995, Dole was ahead of Clinton by six points. In June of 2003, Joe Lieberman was the guy who was sure to win the Democratic nomination and George W. Bush was beating him by 16 points. Bush’s father, H.W. Bush, was trading the top spot with Ross Perot on several occasions in the summer of 1992. Prior to that, it was up in the air.

Remember how those elections turned out?

If we expand our search to years where the incumbent wasn’t up for re-election, at roughly the same point for the 2008 election that we’re in now (so, June 2007), Hillary Clinton had the lead in most of the polls, though in a few, Rudy Giuliani was beating both her and Barack Obama for the presidency.

So, at best, you can say that, based on history, polls this far out have about a 50-50 shot of predicting the right winner. If you were to take a dart board, make one color Trump and the other color a generic Democrat, and give a drunk monkey with an eyepatch a dart, you’ll either pick a winner or take out the bartender.

Polling has that effect on people.

Where Harwood screws up is being so sure of his assertions that he leaves little room for error. Let’s say that, sure, Trump is in deep trouble. I can believe that, much in the same way  I can believe Trump could be tricking all of the Democrats and people in the media into just thinking he’s down when he’s really not. What I can’t believe is that this is set in stone.

We are a year and a half out, folks. No poll in the world is going to measure the exact right feelings of the electorate, truly capture what the American people are considering when they head to the polls, or even what’s for breakfast on election day. There are dozens and hundreds and thousands of factors that will cause the issues to change and the moods to shift.

Sure, Trump takes a beating when it comes to character – I readily admit that I take part in that – but you cannot deny that his administration has had a positive impact on the economy.

Do you think the American people are concerned with Trump the person or their personal financial situations right now? I can almost guarantee you can ask all the questions you want about his character, but if the economy is still trucking along, it won’t mean much come 2020. It’s the jobs people will consider. They either lost theirs or knew someone who lost theirs during the recession, and now virtually everyone they know has a job. That will (likely) still be the case in 2020. And that’s the case Trump should make.

The only economic negative you could possibly predict prior to the 2020 election is a correction in the market. When the stock market rides high for as long as it has, it is always due to have a correction. Those high numbers will tank – they have a couple of times already this term – and people in the media and the Democrats will all jump on and say “See? It was all a lie!” Even though it’s really not. It’s a regular market occurrence.

We’re near full employment now, so you won’t see as many new hires in the coming jobs reports. Why? There are not as many people left to hire. Again, there will be people who cry out that Trump is actually hurting the economy, but that’s also a lie.

That’s just one area of uncertainty that we know will have an impact on the election. If the Democrats do publicly pursue impeachment, that will be another factor.

Abortion? I know the Democrats will overreach there.

Immigration? Doesn’t look good now, but what if he actually gets something done or Mexico follows through on their agreement with the U.S.?

Healthcare? Does not poll nearly as well when you add context (like how people’s taxes will be affected).

And, speaking of taxes, you can say all you want about who really benefited from Paul Ryan’s tax plan, but we know that much of the American public celebrated getting a bigger refund this year.

That’s just the big issues. Consider Iran’s shenanigans last week and how those might play out. Or the trade war. Or any number of smaller-but-also-important issues we’re seeing in the political headlines today.

You can’t say that Trump’s in trouble. Not definitively – or near definitively, as Harwood does – and not without considering all of the above issues and more. To try and be so certain about this right now is a stupid practice, lazy and completely devoid of intellectual integrity. You might expect journalists with national platforms to be more responsible than that, but hey, those engagements on social media are money, baby.

Wild Haired Socialist Won’t Answer If He Still Wants Government Takeover of Major Industry

Westlake Legal Group sanders-620x310 Wild Haired Socialist Won’t Answer If He Still Wants Government Takeover of Major Industry Soviet Union Soviet Russia socialism Russia red Politics Government Ownership Front Page Stories Front Page fox news Featured Story democrats democratic socialism communism Chris Wallace Bernie Sanders

UNITED STATES – JANUARY 16: Senate Budget Committee ranking member Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt. holds a news conference on the budget on Friday, Jan. 16, 2015. (Photo By Bill Clark/CQ Roll Call)

This should probably be disqualifying, or at least it would be if our political system still existed in some realm of sanity.

Bernie Sanders has had an affinity for socialism for a long time. He famously praised the Soviet Union on film back in the 80s and vacationed there with his wife. Since then, he’s tried to moderate his choice of role model by claiming Scandinavian socialism is his drug of choice now. You know, because citing the Soviets doesn’t really work anymore, with all of the murder and starvation and whatnot.

So has Bernie really changed? Nah, he’s still red at heart.

The background on this is that in the 1970s, Sanders pointedly said that he favored “public ownership” (i.e. government ownership) of banks, utilities, and “major industries.” There’s no other word to describe that except communism, a system that has led to nothing but death, despair, and tyranny over it’s lifetime as an ideology.

Chris Wallace asks him if he still supports that and Sanders deflects. A normal person would be able to answer that in about two seconds but Sanders isn’t a normal person. He’s conflicted at his core. He truly believes top-down communism is the way to go but he also knows that he can’t quite say that yet, not even in 2019.

Instead, what you get in this clip is laughable obfuscation where he ignores the fact that he said “public ownership” of “major industries” and instead riffs about how publicly owned utilities are awesome (spoiler: they aren’t). Sanders then says something about credit unions because that’s all he meant you guys. He wasn’t really pushing for Russian style socialism all these years. No, he just wants credit unions.

Everyone knows what Sanders really believes and he’s made it no secret over his career. A career that consists of getting thrown off a commune for laziness and then entering public office, where he’s never produced a single thing of value. The fact that he’s even being considered for as a serious Presidential candidate shows just how far crazy the far left have gone in this country. Sanders is every stereotype of your typical communist rolled into one wild haired old man. He doesn’t practice what he preaches. He owns three houses but lectures others on having too much money. He wants Americans to pay higher taxes while he can’t even be bothered to give 1% of his income to charity to help those in need.

Despite Sanders’ hypocrisy and the weight of history crushing his ideology, major portions of the voting public actually back this man and his ideas. It’s a scary proposition that large portions of younger generations also think “socialism” is the answer. Answer to what exactly? Who knows, as the economy is booming and opportunity is overflowing. But someone, somewhere doesn’t have as much as someone else so we’ve now got to burn the whole system down that created the most prosperous society in human history. It’s just ludicrous on its face.

Unfortunately though, the American public may have to learn the lessons of socialism the hard way, as more and more seem eager to embrace it.

BRING ME PELOSI

The official notice has been given and now we wait to see if Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, takes the bait.

As I wrote late last month about Pelosi I thought she was going to be put on the hot seat for slow rolling the Impeachment train Who Was The Biggest Loser In The Mueller Presser? Nancy Pelosi and A.O.C. is confirming my suspicion.

The lefty, lefties are getting antsy and the face of the grumpies is letting people know.

From Fox News

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., warned Sunday there is “very real risk” President Trump will win re-election in 2020, sparking a rare response of its kind from the president: “I agree.”

Her comments struck an unusually defensive tone for the 29-year-old progressive firebrand, as Democrats seek to winnow their list of 23 presidential contenders. Ocasio-Cortez also acknowledged that progressive frustration with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was “quite real” and spoke bluntly on her initiative to repeal the Hyde Amendment, which bars most federal funding for abortion — and 2020 Democrat frontrunner Joe Biden’s abrupt reversal on the issue earlier this month.

Responding to an NBC News poll showing growing support for an impeachment inquiry, Ocasio-Cortez called an impeachment investigation a “constitutional responsibility.” That prompted Karl to press Ocasio-Cortez on reports that progressive Democrats are frustrated with Pelosi, D-Calif., who has resisted calls for impeachment proceedings.

“I think it’s quite real,” Ocasio-Cortez. “I believe that there is a very real animus and desire to make sure that we are — that — that we are holding this president to account.”

There ya go. The leader of the opposition in the majority party in the House, just let it be known that a person who has done more politically in the past 5 months than A.O.C. has done her whole life is on thin ice. People, this is not going to end well in the House Democratic caucus.

Remember that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was just a lil over 2 years ago a bartender with aspirations to be a film star. She fell into this gig and has already complained that she is not getting paid enough even though she is making a ton more than she ever has in her life. The life experience with this one is not deep.

Her political experience is even less deep and my hunch is that Pelosi will crack a hammer behind the scenes that the freshman congressperson from New York will not heed.

Get some popcorn. unless you don’t like popcorn like me then get some raisnetees, this is going to get good.

Perhaps I’m missing a gene, but I honestly don’t understand why entertainers are boycotting Georgia.

What I mean is, I don’t understand what they expect to accomplish.

If Tom Cruise announced today that he’ll never go to Oklahoma, I don’t believe the state and its legislators would come together in fear, asking themselves, “How can we change our laws, moral disposition, and culture in order to have him back?”

Yet, many entertainers have threatened — and, in some cases, made good on their threats — to not work in Georgia.

It’s true that the state benefits from movies being made there, but it’s just as true that productions benefit from the state. Furthermore, actors and musicians keeping out doesn’t hurt the people of Georgia enough to control its General Assembly.

Nevertheless, add another talented actress to the list of those failing to give props to the place Ray Charles just couldn’t stop thinking about.

Girls Trip star Tiffany Haddish has haddit with the fetal heartbeat law, and so she’s puttin’ the kibosh — for now — on her standup appearance:

“After much deliberation, I am postponing my upcoming show in Atlanta.”

The 39-year-old expressed her southern affection but told ticketholders — as reported by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution — she’s gotta show solidarity:

“I love the state of Georgia, but I need to stand with women and until they withdraw Measure HB481, I cannot in good faith perform there.”

The inexplicable part of her statement is, of course, that it suggests women are pro-abortion.

Is this just one more example of the Hollywood bubble?

How about if I said, “I now have to stand with people with dimples in their support of women in combat”?

The immutable trait of being female can be found amid every possible position toward abortion. And for many of those females, that position is pro-life.

Has no one told this to Tiffany?

If I didn’t live here, I might sometimes be inclined to believe there’s a bubble over all of Hollywood like the plastic dome on the Pop-O-Matic Trouble game:

From Fox News, here’s a rundown of a few more pull-outs and stick-ins over the law — which is set to go into effect in 2020:

Kristen Wiig and Reed Morano previously pulled projects from filming in the state due to the restrictive abortion law, while stars including Alyssa Milano have called for an outright boycott of filming in Georgia.

AMC reportedly is reconsidering shooting “The Walking Dead” in Georgia in protest of the bill.

Jordan Peele and J.J. Abrams will continue filming their upcoming project, “Lovecraft Country,” in Georgia, but will donate proceeds from the series to the Georgia ACLU and Fair Fight Georgia.

And on we go.

They say you can’t please all of the people all of the time, and when it comes to the diversity police at Slate and other liberal outlets, all too often you can’t please any of them, ever. Taylor Swift is Slate’s target this week, after one writer slammed her latest single as “annoying,” “pathetic,” and “hopelessly, insultingly out of place,” and another attacked her for a concert appearance at a gay rights movement landmark, because there was a Republican involved in the event promotion company.

“You Need to Calm Down,” Swift’s new song from her upcoming album “Lover,” dropped this week, along with a sherbet-hued lyric video that spells out the peppy verses advocating against anti-LGBT prejudice. Lyrics question “why are you mad when you could be GLAAD?” (a reference to the LGBT media monitoring organization) and extol the fun of attending a gay pride parade while counterprotesters fester in their misery (“Sunshine in the streets at the parade / But you would rather be in the dark ages / Making that sign / Must have taken all night”).

All in all, it’s a fairly standard little pop song, complete with all the production values a pop star like Swift can hire a team to provide.

It’s not Swift’s first foray in to LGBT advocacy — earlier this month she posted an open letter encouraging the Senate to pass the Equality Act and has long been a public supporter of LGBT rights — but apparently the standard of behavior required these days to be a true “ally” has been raised above all practical common sense.

Slate’s Christina Cauterucci was vicious in her denunciation of the song in an article titled, “Taylor Swift’s New Single Is a Teachable Moment About How Not to Be an Ally,” dismissing it as “queer-baiting” and a “careless pat on the head” to the LGBT community that’s “hopelessly, insultingly out of place,” “like watching a straight bachelorette party go nuts at a drag show.”

Among Swift’s unforgivable crimes, Cauterucci lists her “lyrical laziness” and a comparison to Lady Gaga’s song from eight years ago, “Born This Way,” complaining that Swift 1) is not bisexual like Lady Gaga and 2) the gay rights movement has more “mainstream traction” now so Swift’s song isn’t as revolutionary.

Complaining about lyrical laziness in modern pop songs is like complaining that the ocean has water in it — personally, I’m a fan of a lot of Swift’s music and look forward to this new album’s return to a more joyful, cotton-candy aesthetic — but the criticism of Swift not being able to be a gay rights pioneer in 2019 is both bizarre and unfair.

“Swift is clearly coming out in support of gays, which is much better than being against gays,” Cauterucci grudgingly acknowledged, but then claims that “Swift is promoting ‘You Need to Calm Down’ like it’s going to be the straw that breaks homophobia’s back.” That’s not an accurate statement; the promotion for this song has been in line with other recent Swift song launches, and her initial tweet simply had a photo showing Swift’s back with a presumably temporary tattoo showing the Revolution-era snake expanding into a swarm of butterflies and a link to the video, and the nonsense word “Gxgjxkhdkdkydkhdkhfjvjfj.”

Swift clearly likes her new song and is happy to share it with her fans, but none of her posts indicate she’s claiming to be creating a societal-shifting movement. She just supports LGBT rights and wants to dance with her friends and have fun.

Here’s a radical idea: maybe it’s a good thing a gay rights anthem by a pop star isn’t a revolutionary act.

I’ve long taken a libertarian view on this issue. (Two consenting adults should be able to marry, but legislatures need to address the issue because of the familial, property, and tax issues involved, and to protect religious liberties for churches, synagogues, etc. that should not have to conduct ceremonies contrary to their beliefs.) It’s a positive development that it is no longer a major headline if a famous athlete or actor comes out as gay, or if a popular television show or movie features gay characters.

Becoming mundane is becoming mainstream. If it’s no longer newsworthy if a celebrity is gay, that says something about societal acceptance. For the millions of LGBT Americans who just want to go to work, raise their families, and live their lives, it’s an inherently positive development that being gay is no longer shocking or stigmatizing, that the pressure to stay in the closet is diminishing, and they can just go about their day.

It’s an inherently positive development…except, apparently, in the eyes of the woke left. Swift’s open advocacy for a federal LGBT rights bill and vocal support for LGBT people isn’t enough, and it’s not entirely clear what would satisfy their demands.

South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg, who has been a surprisingly competitive contender for the Democratic presidential nomination, has received similar attacks, including from Slate’s Cauterucci again, bemoaning that this “run-of-the-mill white male candidate” was insufficiently oppressed to qualify for the full set of gay bonus points.

Buttigieg came out while in office, married his boyfriend Chasten, and was reelected in a landslide. His small town constituents clearly weren’t bothered by his sexual orientation.

Both Buttigieg and his husband tend to favor the short haircut, button-down shirt and khakis look sported by many dads roaming around the suburbs. The fact the mayor of a small town isn’t walking around with rainbow glitter in his hair and tight leather pants doesn’t make him less gay, or his marriage to another man any less valid. If you support gay rights, isn’t it a good thing for an openly gay man married to another man to be able to be elected to public office?

It’s yet another example of the left continually redefining diversity to increasingly narrow and distorted meanings. Pete Buttigieg is gay, but he’s a Christian and dresses like an accountant, so it doesn’t count. Taylor Swift supports LGBT rights but is doing it with fluffy little pop songs instead of rioting in the streets or whatever mysterious act of contrition would satisfy the Cauteruccis of the internet, so it doesn’t count.

And heaven forbid a Republican want to be an ally. Nope, no room in the tent.

As mentioned above, Slate’s complaints about Swift include AEG, the live-event promotion company that organized Swift’s recent Reputation tour and a concert this month at the Stonewall Inn, the site of the 1969 riots that are viewed as launching the gay rights movement in America.

AEG’s sin is that its owner, billionaire Philip Anschutz, is (gasp!) a Republican who has donated to Republican candidates and causes. Slate, this time through writer Matthew Dessem, attacks Anschutz for donating to what he characterizes as “anti-LGBT” groups, specifically that Anschutz’s foundation had given “more than $100,000 to the Alliance Defending Freedom between 2011 and 2013″ and had also donated to the Family Research Council, Focus on the Family, and the Heritage Foundation.

On the other hand, Anschutz also donated $1 million last year to the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s LGBT Fund, which helps battle AIDS in Africa and has publicly stated that he “unequivocally support[ed] the rights of all people without regard to sexual orientation.”

Past support of an organization that was legally advocating for traditional marriage is enough to get Anschutz permanently blacklisted as a “hater” in the eyes of Slate’s writers. There’s no public statement of support, even giving literally a million dollars to a worthy cause, that can be sufficient to earn redemption.

And Swift garners their wrath for daring to enter into a business arrangement with this “hater” Republican to schedule her concert appearances (with a bonus freebie attack on capitalism!):

It’s true what Swift sings: Haters are going to hate. But you don’t have to donate money to them, like Anschutz did. There’s no ethical employment under capitalism, but if you have the kind of power and wealth Taylor Swift has, you don’t have to keep helping haters get richer if you don’t want to. And if all else fails, you don’t have to sing about it at the Stonewall Inn during Pride Month.

Well, as Swift herself sings, “haters gonna hate hate hate hate hate,” so I doubt she’ll be harmed by this trumped-up outrage. “You need to calm down,” Slate, and learn to just enjoy some silly happy pop songs.

In South Carolina Monday, Megan Holman was pulled over. The cops say the 25-year-old was flat-out driving drunk about a mile from her home in Walhalla.

Shameful.

People get hurt that way.

Thankfully, a do-gooder called the police about a suspicious female operating the vehicle.

One unusual detail: She was behind the wheel of a Power Wheels electric toy mini-truck.

Speeding… It's no joke people!

Fortunately for Meghan, that fact meant she couldn’t be charged with a DUI. She got off easy with a bit o’ the ol’ public intoxication.

The redhead told authorities she was cruisin’ in the tight silver ride as part of a scavenger hunt.

Also, according to The State, she explained that “she wanted to be a professional wrestler like her father and this was how to do it.”

But of course it is — duh.

Megan was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center and released on a personal recognizance bond.

Once she’s back on her feet, she might wanna consider moving to Los Angeles — thanks to the government’s push for tiny car usage, her vehicle’s perfectly sized for the city’s parking spaces.

Unlike mine.

An exclusive podcast from RedState about the connections of politics and entertainment, covering the stories from Burbank to The Beltway

Our new format is met with a tentatively new technical advancement – who knew? Hopefully we sound better, even if we are not doing better. This week we had much to cover, from serious governmental machinations to a new CNN book on the market, from a documentary with questionable facts to the Democrt Party maxing out its credit cards.

To go along with that people could not decide if they were upset at YouTube or upset with a Kardashian throwing a party. But dammit, there was cause to be upset!!!

  • The Steele Dossier continues to be a source of major consternation as more and more it appears to have been a fabricated tool of Hillary and the DNC. Now it has State Department connections.
  • Speaking of the DNC, they just took out a second major loan to gear up for the campaign season. This is due to them operating with a debt at the moment – so by all means, go further into debt!
  • Sarah covers a new Netflix documentary about supposedly wrongly convicted youths. The reliance upon demonizing Donald Trump to make their case actually hurts their case.
  • People on the left are inflamed that Kylie Jenner dared to stage a Handmaid’s Tale-themed party. Apparently wearing costumes from a make-believe program is somehow literally offensive…???
  • The New York Times is in the process of arguing that news outlets are entitled to more money from Google and social media platforms because they siphon off advertising revenue. This should get nasty.
  • Steven Crowder was targeted by Vox writer Carlos Maza to be demonitized for offending…Carlos Maza. In amazing fashion Maza won the complaint, and then managed to play the victim after winning. Meanwhile after having a revenue stream denied him Crowder became richer.
