Even the old guard politicians occasionally get tripped up and get trapped into a corner that they never needed to be. After yesterday’s painful admission by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that the House would not vote on an “impeachment inquiry” as has been done in the past, she can only blame herself for being in the corner she is in now.

Oh, and A.O.C. and the Progressive cheer squad are coming after her.

As I talked about on my podcast today, Bourbon On The Rocks, I think Pelosi blinked hard in her admission and is now trying to save face. Bourbon On The Rocks: Nancy Pelosi Blinked #851

Nancy Pelosi is an incredibly skilled politician. You don’t become the first woman Speaker of the House, lose that position and get vanquished for 8 years to come back to it again if you are not a master of the process. Those that discount her in this way don’t understand politics. Pelosi has game.

Put another way, if you were in General George S. Patton’s army in World War II and you underestimated your enemies’ strength, you were the one getting slapped.

Never underestimate your opponent when they have a track record of getting stuff done.

However, she slipped up 3 weeks ago when she seemed to come out of nowhere talking about impeachment and that it needed to be looked at NOW. Pelosi had been the one slamming on the brakes saying slow down while she was taking flack from her new colleagues in the Squad.

These ladies think D.C. should work like a Burger King drive-through: your way in less than 10 minutes.

The Speaker did an about-face on Sept 24th when, according to CNBC, she warmed up to the idea of kicking Donald out of the White House before an election.

Pelosi has until now resisted Democrats’ calls for Trump’s impeachment, which have grown steadily in intensity since the release of special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia report.

She has been privately weighing a possible impeachment inquiry for months — but early Tuesday morning, Pelosi’s allies were convinced she would not go down that route, sources told CNBC.

Hours later, however, those same people were told that she’s planning to move ahead with the inquiry, the sources said.

What changed?

We now know that Adam Schiff’s staff had met with the “whistleblower” and were told the phone call was damming and explosive. They probably counted on Trump NOT releasing the transcripts of the call. When he did and the nation yawned, they had to find some other angle. As of now, they have not. Even Schiff is not asking for the whistleblower to come testify now, being what is the point?

The second part of Pelosi’s sudden jump to Impeach I believe was that Alexandria Ocasio Cortez the weekend before started to get lippy on Twitter. She accused the leadership of her caucus in the House of being worse than Trump.

According to the Washington Examiner

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez declared her exasperation with Democratic leadership for their refusal to move forward with impeachment proceedings against President Trump as yet another controversy rocks his administration.

A two-month truce with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi cracked just before midnight Saturday when the freshman congresswoman from New York fired a volley on Twitter attacking her own party.

“At this point, the bigger national scandal isn’t the president’s lawbreaking behavior – it is the Democratic Party’s refusal to impeach him for it,”

This is why you never listen to kids on climate change or on how to operate in Washington D.C. because they feel and don’t think – and look at what a mess you have now, Madame Speaker.

So a veteran of the political wars in the Nation’s capitol just got railroaded into making a bad, bad move by some shady guy named Schiff and a bartender turned non-environmental guru named A.O.C., who really does have a nice $250.00 dollar haircut.

In my opinion, the Speaker pacified Cortez and her small group when she received bad intel from Schiff and she acted to keep another public spat with the kids from erupting. She now has to try and explain why they will not do an impeachment inquiry vote and break over two centuries of precedent. She can’t explain this one away.

In the title, I ask who will win in the upcoming battle between the old guard and the new upstarts. I always want to give the edge to experience with age and wisdom.

In this match, though, I’m afraid that I’m going to give the edge to the upstarts. Not because they are correct but they don’t know any better and they feel they are right as opposed to the calmness that comes over you when you KNOW that you are right.

Youth, vigor, and spreading your feelings via a mass Twitter following will win this battle.

Which most likely means Trump will win again in 2020.

Gods Speed, Speaker Pelosi, you had a good run.

Biden Campaign’s 3Q ‘Cash on Hand’ Less Than Half of Top Tier Rivals; Trump Has More Cash Than All 2020 Candidates Combined

The Biden campaign’s supply of “cash on hand” at the end of the third quarter stood at just under $9 million according to a report in today’s Wall Street Journal. That compares to almost $34 million for Sen. Bernie Sanders, $25.7 million for Sen. Elizabeth Warren and $23.4 million for South Bend, IN mayor Pete Buttigieg. Even Sen. Kamala Harris had $10.5 million in cash on hand.

What, if anything, does this mean for the Biden campaign going forward? Are donors sensing that his candidacy may be irreparably damaged by Biden’s March 2016 threat to withhold $1 billion in U.S. aid unless Ukraine fired the Prosecutor General who was about to investigate his son. Maybe that, on top of all the questions about his mental acuity which surfaced over the summer, have supporters doubting his viability.

The Journal reported that Biden’s campaign raised $15.7 million and spent $17.7 million during the quarter, making it the only campaign in the top four to have spent more than they’d raised. Payroll accounted for $9 million for the period.

Senior advisor to Biden’s campaign, Symone Sanders told the Journal they believe “the primary election will be a dogfight that will continue well after the first few states have voted…This isn’t something that’s going to be over in Iowa or New Hampshire.”

According to the report, most of Sanders’ and Warren’s contributions have come from small donors. Conversely, many of Biden’s donors have contributed the maximum legal amount.

The report also showed that six of the lower tier candidates had less than $1 million in cash on hand on September 30.

Ohio Rep. Tim Ryan had about $158,000 left in the bank, and former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro —who was on the debate stage Tuesday—had less than $700,000 in available cash. Mr. Castro has said he would drop out of the race if he isn’t in the debate next month, and he hasn’t yet qualified for it.

Author Marianne Williamson, who missed qualifying for Tuesday’s debate, was down to about $725,000.

Montana Gov. Steve Bullock had less than $1.4 million in the bank—a smaller amount than even New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, who quit the presidential race in late August.

Although Biden remains ahead in some polls, Elizabeth Warren appears to be eclipsing him. Some are even calling her the new frontrunner. She certainly has momentum behind her. And she had a strong performance in last night’s Democratic debate in Ohio.

In the meantime, Matt Wolking, The Deputy Director of Communications for the Trump campaign announced that Trump/RNC had a whopping $158 million in cash on hand at the end of the quarter. On Tuesday, Wolking tweeted that “the Trump campaign, authorized joint fundraising committees, and the Republican National Committee (RNC) will report $158 million combined in cash on hand at the end of Q3.” That’s more than the total amount collected by all of the 2020 Democrats.

Hey, you know that idea that you can’t be friends with someone if you disagree?

Well, its dumb.

Spread the word — there are lots of people who apparently haven’t heard.

For some reason, many folks — I think it’s not wholly wrong to say, mostly from the left side of the aisle — have fancied separating from friends and previously-loved ones who vote differently as some sort of virtue.

It isn’t, of course, and whenever you weaken the fabric of family and community, you weaken the fabric of the country.

And someone who’s aware of that fact is Sir Elton John.

Among the hoopla over Ellen DeGeneres — say it ain’t so — talking and joking with George W. Bush at an NFL game, the “Candle in the Wind” hitmaker had a thing or two to say.

“I admire Ellen for standing up and saying what she said.”

He was referring to her defense — her claim that she and W. are friends, and that’s how it’s s’posed to go.

Speaking to NPR, he Amen’d her message of true tolerance — that is, one that goes both ways.

In case you missed it, here’s Ellen being as right as Sweet Irish Creme in your favorite K cup confection:

Back to Elton, he delivered more of the good goods:

“George Bush has made a lot of mistakes. I made a lot of mistakes. Ellen DeGeneres has made a lot of mistakes. People need to come together.”

As per Fox News, the singer lamented the current state of affairs:

“Unfortunately, what our democracy has become now is that it’s not okay to have different opinions than yours. And that is not healthy.”

He even praised W. for launching the $85 billion 50-country-wide AIDS initiative PEPFAR — the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief.

“PEPFAR came from the Republicans. People have to remember that. … [It’s] the most incredible thing a Republican president has done on a philanthropic level.”

“[People] need to respect people’s views on life,” Elton said.

“Except when it’s heresy, and I don’t think George Bush is that kind of guy.”

I’m thankful for his voice in this, as well as in a lot of other matters where he’s landed on a side some didn’t expect. The man performed at Rush Limbaugh’s wedding, for Pete’s sake.

And I’m grateful for “Goodbye, Yellow Brick Road,” my favorite song of his.

Do you have one?

Let us all know.

CNN’s Anderson Cooper and Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden – 10/15/19. Screen grab via CNN.

It’s no secret that CNN is in the tank for Democrats. It’s also not breaking news that they have been quick to say in their reporting that there’s supposedly “no evidence” that President Trump is speaking the truth about the Joe Biden/Hunter Biden/Ukraine quid pro quo issue. It’s also a well-known fact that CNN refused to run the Trump campaign’s Ukraine ads, ostensibly because they criticized some of CNN’s on-air “talent.”

Still, watching the debate on Tuesday night and seeing the lengths the struggling cable news network will go through to protect candidates they like was a sight to behold, and is worthy of commentary.

On Trump’s allegations of wrongdoing against both Joe Biden and his son Hunter, here’s how moderator Anderson Cooper lovingly teed up the question he was about to ask (bolded emphasis added):

COOPER: Thank you, Congressman. The impeachment inquiry is centered on President Trump’s attempts to get political dirt from Ukraine on Vice President Biden and his son, Hunter. Mr. Vice President, President Trump has falsely accused your son of doing something wrong while serving on a company board in Ukraine. I want to point out there’s no evidence of wrongdoing by either one of you.

Having said that, on Sunday, you announced that if you’re president, no one in your family or associated with you will be involved in any foreign businesses. My question is, if it’s not okay for a president’s family to be involved in foreign businesses, why was it okay for your son when you were vice president? Vice President Biden?

Did you get that? Anderson has concluded, without evidence, that both Bidens were “falsely accused” by Trump and in the same sentence used the words “there’s no evidence of wrongdoing”, even though if he was “falsely accused” the latter statement would go without saying, wouldn’t it?

After Biden did not answer outside of saying neither he nor his son did anything wrong and then pivoting to impeachment, Cooper again gave asking him the question a try, this time without the “falsely accused/no evidence” qualifiers:

COOPER: … just to follow up. Mr. Vice President, as you said, your son, Hunter, today gave an interview, admitted that he made a mistake and showed poor judgement by serving on that board in Ukraine. Did you make a mistake by letting him? You were the point person on Ukraine at the time. You can answer.

Biden again dodged the question, instead noting he was proud of his son and stating the focus should be on “Trump’s corruption.” The issue did not come up for Biden again.

Watch the exchange below:

The segment was reminiscent of how former CNN anchor Candy Crowley repeatedly stepped in to help out President Obama during an October 2012 debate he had with GOP nominee Mitt Romney.

It’s almost like CNN has an agenda or something.

CNN Scrambles to Save Elizabeth Warren Right As She’s About to Be Waylaid

If you had any doubts about who CNN was rooting for going into the debate last night, we received the answer throughout the night. Over and over, Warren was given deference, extra time, and had her opponents cut off by the moderators.

Here’s a chart of how much more Warren got to speak compared to everyone else.

Even among the other frontrunners, Warren got almost a full 10 minutes extra vs. Biden and Sanders. That’s pretty remarkable given how absolutely boring and uncharismatic she is. But there’s a simple reason she got so much extra time. The moderators were favoring her big time.

There was no bigger example of that than this would-be exchange between Warren and Tulsi Gabbard. I say “would be” because CNN made sure it didn’t actually happen.

You’ll no doubt recall Gabbard’s ending of Kamala Harris’ campaign back in the second debate. She absolutely lit Kamala up and left her stammering over her prosecutorial record. Harris essentially collapsed going forward and is now an afterthought.

No doubt, CNN was worried she might do the same to Warren tonight and the moderators were quick to make sure it couldn’t happen. Not only did they cut off Gabbard as she was about to waylay Warren, they rushed to commercial so she couldn’t even interject and point out what they were doing.

Here’s some reaction.

You can expect this to continue. As I’ve said before, the media love Warren because she makes them feel smart. Joe Biden is currently burning down and they hate Bernie, so Warren is their choice. You’d think CNN would be a little less obvious about it, but I guess not.

Representative Neal’s Proposal to End Surprise Medical Bills is a Trojan Horse for Government-Run Healthcare

Last week, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman, Massachusetts Democrat Richard Neal proposed a new way for dealing with the problem of hospitals overcharging out-of-network patients. As part of his proposal, the Health and Human Services, Labor, and Treasury departments would form a committee to set prices on out-of-network care. In other words, his plan is a Trojan horse to sneak government-run healthcare past voters through the maze of bureaucracy.

It’s no secret that hospitals have been sending patients “surprise medical bills” for out-of-network care. And the name for this process comes from those surprising moments when you receive a $18,000 bill for a basic urine test that you thought insurance covered. In far too many cases, Americans have been receiving these exorbitant medical bills because the hospital they were treated at ended up being outside of their insurance network.

However, the solution to this problem is not for the federal government to implement government price-setting, and the American people seem to agree. A poll published earlier this year found that only 13 percent of voters support government-run healthcare.

Rep. Neal’s proposal bucks the voices of the American people and serves as a vehicle for resurrecting the Obamacare “death panels,” sanctioning government bureaucrats to decide who gets covered for life-saving treatments.

Given the unfavorable poll numbers surrounding this issue, Congressional Democrats are hesitant to be the face of a government price-fixing plan. So, now they have outsourced the work to unaccountable bureaucrats and insurance lobbyists who have no public constituency and face no consequences for their actions. Simply put, they are working in the shadows.

Sadly, we’ve seen this before.

During the Obama administration, lobbyists for the nation’s largest insurance companies dictated healthcare policy. Insurers got a great return on their $243 million investment in lobbying for Obamacare: what’s better for business than the government forcing people to purchase your product?

Those who championed the legislation said it was an existential threat to big insurance companies—but that demonstrably wasn’t the case. In fact, insurance companies supported it; and they repaid the favor to Elizabeth Fowler, Obamacare’s architect, and 30 other former Obama administration officials, with cushy lobbying gigs.

Obamacare triggered the ongoing problem of fewer options and rising healthcare costs. And this particularly hits home for many rural areas, where, in many cases, Americans only have  one choice for their healthcare provider. And like Obamacare, Rep. Neal’s proposal would be another bailout for insurance companies at the expense of these rural patients and millions of other Americans.

Neal’s proposal, however, could take several years to implement and there’s no guarantee Republicans will be in power to prevent its application. If Republicans don’t stop this proposal now, there is a possibility that they could be handing over price-fixing authority to a Democratic president, who will most certainly use it as a vehicle to push forward their plan for socialized healthcare.

Rather than supporting a price-setting proposal, congressional Republicans, such as Senators Ben Sasse, Deb Fischer, and Thom Tillis, who represent many rural communities, should instead support Senator Bill Cassidy’s bill. The STOP Surprise Medical Bills Act, which would prevent excessive out-of-network costs (and those surprise medical bills).

>In the end, Congressman Neal’s proposal is another Washington concoction that takes power away from patients and concentrates it in the hands of bureaucrats and lobbyists. Congressional Republicans must stand against this proposal and stand on the side of the American people.

>State Representative Wayne Sasser is a pharmacist and serves as a Republican member of the North Carolina General Assembly.

On Former US Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch

Obama appointee Yovanovitch is being feted by the legacy media lately, as well as praised by Deep Stater leakers like Fiona Hill (formerly on the NSC staff). Here’s one example:

Fiona Hill, a former top National Security Council expert on Russia, praised ousted U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch during testimony on Monday before the House Intelligence Committee. Fox News has learned that Hill, who is testifying before the committee as part of the House’s impeachment inquiry into President Trump, had high praise for Yovanovitch during the closed-door session. Yovanovitch, who herself testified before congressional lawmakers last Friday as part of the impeachment probe, was recalled from her ambassadorship in May by Trump.

Read the rest here. Here is the virulently anti-Trump Vanity Fair chiming in with the usual “unnamed sources”:

“Folks were surprised to see a colleague as professional and talented as Masha Yovanovitch asked to leave Ukraine early. But sometimes that happens,” a former high-ranking State Department official told me. “That sentiment became shock, horror, and outrage when the presidential phone call came out.” Pompeo, after all, is tasked with defending U.S. diplomatic interests around the world—a mission that theoretically includes defending his staff from political corruption.

“It is unconscionable that he would have been on the phone while one of his team was being trashed by the president of the United States,” said another former senior State official.“Not that I would have said that he should have interrupted the phone call, but there should have been something said somewhere along the way to support her and her integrity and everything else. He is a Trump quisling. What can I say?”

Read the rest of this political hit-job here. Is it any wonder that these quoted clowns are now “former” State Dept employees? And “former” likely means Obama hacks. These people forget that their jobs are to execute US foreign policy, not undermine it, and serve at the President’s pleasure.

Yovanovitch was nominated for the post of US ambassador to Ukraine in May 2016, not coincidentally right in the middle of the counter-intel investigation on the Trump campaign. She was fired by @POTUS almost three years later to the day. Inquiring minds wonder why. Despite the praise for her from Deep State sources, there is more to her story, including breaking news on what she was doing in Kyiv. First of all, a little pushback is in order courtesy of a trusted source quoted here:

  • I did some research on who this woman is. It appears her father was a Soviet and her mother a German communist. They immigrated to Canada (date unknown) and their daughter was born in Montreal in 1958. In 1961, they moved to Connecticut where she attended elite private schools. They spoke Russian at home. No indications of how her family earned their living. At 18 she became a US citizen and attended Princeton where she majored in Russian history and graduated in 1980. She then moved to Moscow and attended a Soviet language School, but there are no further indications of what she did from 1980-86. She joined the State Dept in 1986. She advanced rapidly.
  • In 2001, after 14 years in the State Department, she attended the National Defense University and received her MA. This is fairly normal, as the State Department sends Foreign Service Officers with 12-16 years of service to school with military officers with 20-24 years of commissioned service. The difference shows and is stark.
  • In 2008, after 22 years in the State Dept, she became the US Ambassador to Armenia (appointed in the final months of the Bush 43 Administration) and served until 2011 (Obama) at which time she became the ambassador to Kyrgyzstan for one year. Both times she appears to have been focused on human rights issues. That makes sense under President Obama’s and Secretary Clinton’s priorities.
  • In 2013, she became the Deputy Commandant of the Eisenhower School at the National Defense University for one year until 2014. From 2014-2016 she was the Dean of the State Department’s Language School.
  • In 2016, she was nominated as the US Ambassador to Ukraine late in the Obama Administration. Her focus was again on human rights and LGBTQ rights.
  • Well over a year ago, Texas Congressman Pete Sessions claimed to have received numerous complaints from fellow congressmen about her open anti-Trump views in the lead-up to the election and subsequently thereafter. She has made financial donations to Democrat candidates but not Republican ones. There are no indications that she is or ever has been married or has a family.
  • The US State Department is the epicenter and founding member of the Deep State. It has, for 80 years, tried to forge its own foreign policy regardless of the direction of the Executive Branch. Hence the need for political appointees to ambassadorships and special envoys. Often, US embassies become the representatives for foreign countries versus the US representatives to the applicable nation.
  • When President Obama ordered US embassies to fly the LGBTQ flag, not one failed to do so. But, when the Trump Administration made embassies request permission to fly it, many just flew it anyway. This is the merest tip of the iceberg. Defiance is their stock in trade.
  • Ambassador Yovanovitch spent her entire career interfering in the internal policies, elections and laws of foreign nations in her push for US human rights political correctness. To assume that a career foreign service officer would not have made negative comments overseas about a Trump victory over her former boss and role model (Clinton) would take a special kind of denial mechanism.

And this – among other things – is EXACTLY what she has denied:

Yovanovitch defended herself against what she called ‘unfounded and false claims by people with clearly questionable motives,’ including a rumor that she had handed Ukraine’s top prosecutor a list of people who were not to be charged with crimes. She also dismissed public allegations that she had ‘supposedly told the Embassy team to ignore the President’s orders “since he was going to be impeached”.’ She rejected the contention that she was running interference for Joe Biden and his son, Hunter, as Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani has claimed in what he has cast as an effort to protect the Bidens and Hillary Clinton while undermining Trump.

Read the rest here. Note that we have to look to the foreign press for the aforementioned denials because those denials might make thoughtful people wonder as to the truth of the accusations, further undermining the Democrats’ bastardization of the real crimes committed in Ukraine. And speaking of crimes committed, it’s likely that Yovanovitch herself committed a few as well. Thankfully, Judicial Watch is on the job yet again:

Judicial Watch is investigating if prominent conservative figures, journalists and persons with ties to President Donald Trump were unlawfully monitored by the State Department in Ukraine at the request of ousted U.S. Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch, an Obama appointee. Yovanovitch testified “in secret” to the House impeachment inquiry against Trump on Friday, October 11, 2019. Her “secret” testimony was leaked to the New York Times during the hearing.

Judicial Watch has obtained information indicating Yovanovitch may have violated laws and government regulations by ordering subordinates to target certain U.S. persons using State Department resources. Yovanovitch reportedly ordered monitoring keyed to the following search terms: Biden, Giuliani, Soros and Yovanovitch. Judicial Watch has filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request with the State Department and will continue gathering facts from government sources.

Prior to being recalled as ambassador to Ukraine in the spring Yovanovitch reportedly created a list of individuals who were to be monitored via social media and other means. Ukraine embassy staff made the request to the Washington D.C. headquarters office of the department’s Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs. After several days, Yovanovitch’s staff was informed that the request was illegal and the monitoring either ceased or was concealed via the State Department Global Engagement Center, which has looser restrictions on collecting information.

“This is not an obscure rule, everyone in public diplomacy or public affairs knows they can’t make lists and monitor U.S. citizens unless there is a major national security reason,” according to a senior State Department official. If the illicit operation occurred, it seems to indicate a clear political bias against the president and his supporters.

Read the rest here. That sure seems like Judicial Watch has credible information, doesn’t it? Both her denials to the contrary and also the Deep Staters and Democrats rallying around her in legacy media articles ring pretty hollow, don’t they? It looks like she was fired for cause after all! And if that’s not enough, Tom Fitton subsequently tweeted out a list of those targeted by Yovanovitch. The posse is getting closer!

Finally, there is this from the Wall Street Journal that explains the reasons for her firing, contrary to the denials of her and the Democrats:

President Trump ordered the removal of the ambassador to Ukraine after months of complaints from allies outside the administration, including his personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani, that she was undermining him abroad and obstructing efforts to persuade Kyiv to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden, according to people familiar with the matter. State Department officials were told this spring that Ms. Yovanovitch’s removal was a priority for the president, a person familiar with the matter said. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo supported the move, an administration official said.

Read the rest here.

To summarize:

  • Yovanovitch – whose parents were Commies – became a career State Dept employee and eventually a US ambassador twice-over, ending up in Kyiv.
  • She was a loyal Democrat operative in service of Obama and the Clintons and looks to have been groomed exactly as a trusted agent to protect Democrat interests (corruption) in Ukraine. She was also unquestionably anti-Trump and acted accordingly.
  • She was fired for cause by @POTUS in May 2019 despite continued frantic attempts by Democrat-controlled media and various Deep Staters to spin that firing otherwise in order to limit their criminal exposure in Ukraine and “get Trump.”
  • She almost certainly requested the illegal monitoring of US citizens from her post in Kyiv in order to support covering up Democrat crimes in Ukraine.

Her story is a work-in-progress and likely won’t end the way the Democrats and their media allies think it will end. How did a woman born to two Communist parents end up as a career US foreign service officer? It is long past time for a reinstitution of loyalty oaths at Foggy Bottom and in every US embassy worldwide, as well as routine polygraphs and tough personnel interviews to ferret out the rats. Oh, and maybe a complete swap-out of US embassy personnel in Kyiv is in order, too!

The end.

Gal Gadot to Produce and Star in Movie About Christian Woman Who Saved Thousands of Jewish Children from Nazis

Continuing to prove to be one of the most stand-up women in Hollywood, Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot has started up her own production company with her husband and decided their first film will be about a Christian woman who saved thousands of Jewish children from the Nazis.

According to Deadline, Gadot will produce and act the lead in a true story film about Irena Sendler and her efforts to defy the Nazis by saving the lives of others:

Irena Sendler tells the harrowing story of a woman’s defiant stand against Nazi Germany’s occupation of Poland and the incredible network she developed to care for and save 2500 Jewish children from the Warsaw ghetto. Following her arrest by the Gestapo during the height of the war, the drama becomes a race against time to save not only herself but the identities of the hidden thousands who’ll face certain execution. Justine Juel Gillmer will be writing the screenplay. She just wrote another harrowing Holocaust film, Harry Haft. Gillmer has worked in film and television in her native Australia, and has worked on numerous shows in the U.S. including The 100, Into the Badlands, and is now serving as a writer/co-EP on Amazon’s Wheel of Time.

According to Gadot and her husband, their new production company, Pilot Wave, will focus on inspiring stories just like Sendler’s.

“As producers, we want to help bring stories that have inspired us to life,” Gadot and Varsano said. “Pilot Wave will create content that promotes the perspectives and experiences of unique people and produce impactful stories aimed at igniting the imagination.”

Hearing stories like this one would be a breath of fresh air, especially in an age where Hollywood has nothing good to say about Christians or Christianity. It’s likely that Gadot will face more controversy for taking on such a project, but she faces controversy no matter what she undertakes. Many of the hard left already despise her for being a beautiful, pro-Israeli, former soldier.

My hope is that the controversy doesn’t cause her or her production company to pull back on story elements that may give rise to controversy, such as the Christian element to the story.

I have faith in Gadot, however.

Video: Mayor Pete Suplexes Beto After Failed Senate Candidate Questioned His Courage

About the only thing I looked forward to seeing Tuesday night at the fourth Democratic debate was the scrap between Beto O’Rourke and South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg.

Beto and Mayor Pete have been needling each other for weeks on the issue of gun control, and specifically O’Rourke’s mandatory gun confiscation plan. Mayor Pete has referred to Beto’s plan as an unattainable “shiny object.” Because of that, O’Rourke has countered that the Mayor, who served in Afghanistan, was “afraid of doing the right thing right now” because he was supposedly more interested in focus groups, consultants, and polls than saving lives.

CNN’s Anderson Cooper, one of last night’s debate moderators, teed up the tense exchange between the two by first asking Beto about how he planned on implementing his plan. After Beto gave a non-committal answer as to what he would do, Cooper then turned to Mayor Pete for his thoughts:

COOPER: Thank you. Mayor Buttigieg, just yesterday, you referred to mandatory buybacks as confiscation and said that Congressman O’Rourke has been picking a fight to try to stay relevant. Your response on guns?

BUTTIGIEG: Look, Congressman, you just made it clear that you don’t know how this is actually going to take weapons off the streets. If you can develop the plan further, I think we can have a debate about it. But we can’t wait. People are dying in the streets right now.

Beto responded by emphatically stating that we can’t wait on gun confiscation, the time is now, and we need to do the right thing, etc. etc. He also added the below comments, which was another swipe at Buttigieg’s courage regarding taking what Democrats would characterize as bold action on gun control:

O’ROURKE: No, let’s decide what we are going to believe in, what we’re going to achieve. And then let’s bring this country together in order to do that. Listening to my fellow Americans, to those moms who demand action, to those students who march for our lives, who, in fact, came up with this extraordinary bold peace plan… that calls for mandatory buybacks, let’s follow their inspiration and lead and not be limited by the polls and the consultants and the focus groups. Let’s do what’s right…”

Buttigieg at long last let him have it:

BUTTIGIEG: The problem isn’t the polls. The problems is the policy. And I don’t need lessons from you on courage, political or personal. Everyone on this stage is determined to get something done. Everyone on this stage recognizes, or at least I thought we did, that the problem is not other Democrats who don’t agree with your particular idea of how to handle this.

Watch:

I’ve said before that I’d be content with them both destroying each other at future campaign stops and debates because they are both pompous, sanctimonious hypocrites on a number of fronts, but Beto really did have that coming to him.

Tulsi Gabbard Slams CNN at Debate, Exposes the Incredible Incoherence of the Democrat Position On Syria

Westlake Legal Group f1c61773-57dd-4e5a-96c7-3045358f05e5-620x317 Tulsi Gabbard Slams CNN at Debate, Exposes the Incredible Incoherence of the Democrat Position On Syria tulsi gabbard Syria Politics Obama Administration mistake Kurds Joe Biden Islamists Incoherant Front Page Stories Front Page Featured Story Elizabeth Warren elections Election democrats debate CNN assad Allow Media Exception Al Qaeda 2020

While some on the right can’t stand Tulsi Gabbard because “she’s a Russian agent” and all that hysteria, I actually appreciate that she tries to make coherent, consistent points. Do I agree with her on much of anything she says on policy. No, but there’s something to be said about not talking out of both sides one’s mouth and that’s exactly what we saw on Syria from every candidate on the stage last night minus Gabbard.

Let’s take this clip as an example.

Now, while most will focus on the slam on CNN (and it is nice), I’m much more interested in the separation she puts between herself and the other Democrats. While they all struggled to incoherently explain why they spent years demanding we leave the Middle East but why we now must remain in Syria to fight a NATO ally (a sucky one, but one nonetheless until action is taken), Gabbard at least gets to the heart of the matter.

The war against Assad, just like the war in Libya, was a ridiculous miscalculation. Attempting to change the regime in Syria, while giving warm and fuzzies to those in the foreign policy establishment in Washington, only helped create and exacerbate a humanitarian crisis and setup a situation where we were either going to still have Assad or end up with Al Qaeda aligned Islamists taking power. How is that a choice we had any business sticking our nose in?

Joe Biden tried to lie about his previous position, insisting the war was never about removing Assad. A reporter from The Washington Post said he was “right.” That’s simply not true.

Regime change was the official government policy of the Obama administration for at least the first three years of the civil war in Syria. We all remember the demands for Assad to step down and the saber rattling about how he will go one way or the other. The problem was that by helping propagate that civil war, we fed into a situation that would take the lives of over 500,000 people, including 50,000 children. No one seems to want to own that. Everyone in Washington wants to pretend that it’s not possible for us to have made a bad situation worse, yet that’s exactly what we did.

I’m sure by writing that, I’ll be accused of being an Assad apologist because critical thinking isn’t allowed on much of the right when it comes to foreign policy issues. The reality is that unlike the myriad of neoconservative blue check-marks on Twitter, I actually have family in Syria. This isn’t a matter of ideology for me. It’s a matter of accepting that sometimes there are no perfect solutions and recognizing that we can indeed make matters worse. Minorities in Syria (like my family) feared Islamist rebel groups far more than they feared Assad, who before the outbreak of war was one of the more secular, benign dictators in the region.

Tulsi Gabbard is trying to make a fairly simple point that takes the entirety of what has transpired into account. Perhaps she really does just love Assad, but that’s a weak minded argument to make against her. Her position has at least been consistent. She was against getting involved from the beginning and she’s been shown to be more right than wrong on the matter. The rest of the Democrat field flailing about, now wanting to remain in Syria (and Biden even said he wants a surge last night back into Northern Syria) after initially screaming to get out, shows just how non-thinking most of these people are. At one point last night, Elizabeth Warren argued we should leave troops in Syria and then a few seconds later said she wanted to pull all troops from the Middle East. You make sense of that. We also saw contradictory bantering like this.

I could keep going about the intricacies here (see Mike Ford’s explainers for more information), but I’m certain everyone is so set in stone on this issue that it’ll make little difference. What I will say is this. The smartest among us are often the dumbest. Just because someone has “expert” on their chyron does not mean they actually know what they are talking about. The United States miscalucated on Libya and Syria. That’s the point Gabbard has been consistently making, even when the rest of her party was cheer-leading those interventions. That may not matter to the talking head sitting in an MSNBC studio today, but it should matter to the rest of us, and whether you agree with Gabbard or not, at least be intellectually honest enough to admit that the war in Syria didn’t start in 2017.
