Tim Allen Is Being Labeled As a Racist After Doing Nothing Racist at All

Westlake Legal Group AP_17121097303011-620x338 Tim Allen Is Being Labeled As a Racist After Doing Nothing Racist at All Toy Story Tom Hanks Tim Allen racism Racial Slurs Politics Hollywood Front Page Stories Featured Story Allow Media Exception

The creator and star of “Last Man Standing” is now being labeled a racist for…well…we’re not sure.

Tim Allen, an openly right-leaning successful TV celebrity is making the press rounds for the newest Toy Story movie with his co-star Tom Hanks, and one of those stops involved an interview with The All-Mighty Xilla Valentine. Valentine wanted to know how the duo play Spades.

Hanks knows how to play spades, however, Allen did not and expressed that he had no idea what Hanks and Valentine were talking about, and dryly made comments about going to get coffee.

According to Twitchy, people are expressing that this is solid proof that Allen hates black people.

Oh, but wait. It’s not that Tim Allen doesn’t know how to play spades now. In the middle of trying to peg Allen as a racist for not knowing how to play a card game, someone found something that Tim Allen had said that really exposed him as a true racist.

Allen had attempted to reason that saying the “n-word” shouldn’t be considered as a bad thing coming out of his mouth as the intent is not at all racist.

Allen’s point is clear. If the word isn’t being used as a way to denigrate a black person, then its use shouldn’t matter all that much to anyone. To his point, it’s certainly used enough for all sorts of reasons, and it only seems to make people angry when it’s used by certain people. They don’t even have to be white for it to be wrong, as plenty of white comedians say it with no blowback.

Allen, however, is right-leaning, and so it’s racist.

Here’s the problem. Allen’s comments on the “n-word” weren’t something said recently. This quote of his is six years old.

So let’s break this down. Other comedians can say it on stage to little or no blowback. The Governor of Virginia can do blackface and his controversy will fizzle out quickly. White celebrities can literally promote the idea of killing off black babies in the womb because they’ll just grow up to be criminals anyway.

But Tim Allen is a racist because he doesn’t know how to play spades and six years ago he tried to reason that saying the “n-word” in certain contexts isn’t bad, as society has actually proved him right on.

The word “racism” has lost all meaning now.

Rep, Katie Porter (D-CA-45) appears on Bill Maher’s “Real Time” show. 6/8/19. Screen grab via HBO.

I’m not so sure what was worse about Rep. Katie Porter’s (D-CA-45) appearance on Bill Maher’s show Saturday night:

Her casually ghoulish explanation to Maher about how his mother had the right to abort him, or the audience’s and panel’s uproarious laughter that followed.

The Hill recaps what went down on the Saturday edition of HBO‘s “Real Time”:

Rep. Katie Porter (D-Calif.) drew laughs from the audience while defending a woman’s right to choose Saturday night, after Real Time host Bill Maher joked about being “squishy” on his “pro-choice” views.

“They told my mother after my sister, very difficult birth, she shouldn’t have another one. So knowing I could’ve been on the cutting room floor…why is that so terrible?” Maher said.

Porter quipped back at the comedian: “Your mom made her choice, and we’re all here with the consequences of that choice.”

“I just want to say God bless Ms. Maher, God bless her for having you. I’m sure it wasn’t easy,” Porter said, adding the point is “she made her choice.”

Watch video of the disturbing exchange below:

Instead of being shocked at Porter’s remarks – where she told the host of the show who invited her on that it would have been ok if his mother had terminated his unborn life, an assorted variety of left wingers, commentators, and even Democratic politicians praised Porter’s “owning” and “roasting” of Maher on the abortion issue.

Porter herself was obviously extremely proud of the clip, because not only did she tweet it out and add additional comments to it, but her profile picture is now an image of her from the show:

If Maher really would have been on his toes, he would have asked Maher if she’d have been ok with her mother aborting her. Militant pro-aborts really hate it when you ask that question, and usually try and dodge it by saying we “shouldn’t engage in hypotheticals” – even though hypotheticals are hallmarks of their justification for abortion on demand.

That Porter’s callous remarks were so well-received by members of her Democratic pro-abortion tribe just goes to show how deeply seeped into the American conscience the “right” to kill an unborn child actually is, and how much work the pro-life community still has to do to overcome it.

Probably Not A Good Idea To Question Dan Crenshaw’s Patriotism

Westlake Legal Group DanCrenshawFoxNews Probably Not A Good Idea To Question Dan Crenshaw’s Patriotism Media Front Page Stories Featured Story fake news Dan Crenshaw 9/11 Fund

Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX-2). Screen grab via Fox News.

Texas GOP Rep. Dan Crenshaw has been on a tear almost since his first day in Congress, and it’s pleasantly refreshing to watch someone brook no nonsense and do it all with a sense of humor, which he generally displays.

However, if you’re going to question the patriotism of a man who was a Navy SEAL for 10 years, served 3 tours of duty, lost an eye in the process, and then ran and won a seat in the House of Representatives, you may be going the right way for a smackdown.

To his credit, Crenshaw is likely capable of inflicting much worse, but he was relatively gentle on New York Times contributing op-ed writer Wajahat Ali.

“Anytime a Republican says they are ‘patriots’ ask them if they voted to fund the 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund. You know who’s for it? Ilhan Omar,” Ali wrote. “You know who hasn’t sponsored it? Dan Crenshaw. @DanCrenshawTX, I hope you do the right thing. If not, why aren’t you?”

The tweet has since been deleted, but was saved by Daily Wire reporter Ryan Saavedra:

It’s getting increasingly weird out there. Efforts to try to make people like Omar seem more patriotic (she has only her own words to blame) have people questioning the indisputable patriotism of people like Crenshaw to the point they’re outright willing to lie or just forgo a sacred part of their jobs as journalists, i.e. confirmation of information.

Ali, to his credit, followed up with this:

But he still couldn’t resist slamming people who had tried to correct him by painting them all with the broad “alternative facts” brush.

Just admit your mistake, apologize, and leave it there, “journalist”.

New Quinnipiac Poll Shows Top Six Democratic Candidates Defeating Trump, Biden Leads By 13 Points

Westlake Legal Group bidendummy-620x388 New Quinnipiac Poll Shows Top Six Democratic Candidates Defeating Trump, Biden Leads By 13 Points Quinnipiac Poll polls Joe Biden Front Page Stories Featured Story Allow Media Exception 2020

Democrats could barely contain their excitement as they gleefully reported the results of the new Quinnipiac Presidential Poll. It showed Joe Biden ahead of President Trump by “landslide proportions” and top Democrats ahead of him as well. Sanders beat Trump by 9 points, Harris by 8, Warren by 7, and Buttigieg and Booker both ahead of the President by 5.

Biden was ahead of Trump in nearly every category. Women chose Biden by a margin of 60-34 per cent; men 47-46; black voters 85-12; Hispanics, 58-33; Democrats, 95-3 and Independents, 58-28.

Trump was ahead of Biden by a 91-6 per cent margin and, among white voters, by a 47-46 per cent margin.

Complete polling results can be viewed here.

We are 17 months away from the election. At this point in the 2016 election season, polls showed Hillary Clinton ahead of Trump by huge margins. Real Clear Politics shows three major polls that were taken at this point:

A Quinnipiac poll taken between 5/19/15-5/26/15 had Clinton winning by 18 points. Fox News had Clinton on top by 17 and a CNN/ORC poll conducted between 6/26/15 and 6/28/15 had Clinton ahead by a whopping 24 points.

An Associated Press poll published on 10/25/16, two weeks before the election, gave the race to Clinton by 13 points, the same margin that Quinnipiac gives to Biden today, a year and a half out.

Aside from that, there are others reasons for skepticism.

The Washington Examiner’s Philip Klein finds the result which shows Trump ahead of Biden by just one point to be an oddity. Klein writes:

In 2016, Trump beat Hillary Clinton by 20 points among white voters — and this was not unheard of. Mitt Romney beat the Obama-Biden ticket by 20 points among whites in 2012, and John McCain won whites by 12 points in 2008…George W. Bush beat Al Gore by 13 points among whites in 2000, despite Gore being a southern white male Democrat.

Not since 1996, when Bill Clinton came within two points of Bob Dole, has any Democrat come within single digits among whites.

Klein says that “if Democrats win, it will be because of some combination of the nominee boosting performance among minority voters and/or eating into Trump’s softer support among white voters. But they are unlikely to win by cutting into his edge among whites by as much as this poll would indicate.”

The gaffe-prone Biden never managed to break into the top tier of candidates in either of his previous runs. Newt Gingrich sums it up best:

Biden has always been a weak, self-destructive candidate and he is still a weak, self-destructive candidate. From defending the Chinese, to sniffing people’s hair, to plagiarizing others, there is a “Bidenness” that plagued his first two campaigns for president and will probably destroy this one.

The former vice-president has felt the need to abandon many of his more “centrist” positions to compete with the far-left field of Democratic candidates. The most striking example was Biden’s flip flop on the Hyde Amendment. “After a few days of pressure, Biden caved to the left. A lifetime career of citing his Catholicism was washed away by the radical left in less than a week.”

As the other Democratic candidates have lurched to the left, Biden has felt the need to change his positions, ones he has held over his long political career.

He also faces other strong headwinds. His son’s business dealings with China and the Ukraine will continue to be a challenge for Biden.

His threat to withhold aid to Ukraine until they fired the official who was about to investigate his son will require some explanation. Biden is shown on video bragging to an audience about having issued an ultimatum to the Ukraine government that if a particular official wasn’t fired by the time he left the country (in the next six hours), he would withhold U.S. aid. That will be a tough one to explain in a debate.

On Tuesday, he told supporters that Trump represents an “existential threat” to the U.S.  This nebulous statement is very serious and Biden provided no substance to back it up. We’re still here. The economy is booming Joe and Trump has a long list of accomplishments to tout. Yet he represents an existential threat. Just like every other liberal, Biden can’t come up with a specific crime the President has committed or an action which has endangered the U.S.

In the meantime, the Attorney General’s investigation, led by John Durham, is underway and will most likely unearth some uncomfortable and inconvenient truths about the activities of the Obama administration. And we know for a fact that Biden was a participant in all of the Russian collusion meetings which were so secretive that Obama officials cut the video feed in the Situation Room to maintain privacy. What was up?

Finally, Biden’s age will be an factor. He lacks both the mental and physical stamina he once had. Although Trump is not much younger, he is tireless as President and as a campaigner.

Sorry pollsters, I just don’t believe these numbers.

Rumors Swirl that the Dallas Police Chief Is On the Chopping Block After Soaring Murder Rate

Westlake Legal Group AP_16190332494608-620x394 Rumors Swirl that the Dallas Police Chief Is On the Chopping Block After Soaring Murder Rate Texas Renee Hall police murder homicide Front Page Stories Featured Story dallas crime Allow Media Exception

The pressure is increasing on Dallas Police Chief Renee Hall after the murder rate in Dallas is set to reach horrific heights after a decade, and now there are rumors that Hall may be forced out of the position of Chief soon enough.

According to the Dallas Observer, many problems plague the Dallas Police Department. It’s woefully short staffed, it can’t get officers to stick around, and Hall reportedly has her priorities in the wrong place. All of this has caused some to believe that the Chief may be all but done at the department:

A number of people close to or in the police department think getting rid of Dallas Police Chief U. Renee Hall is an important step toward stemming the catastrophic rise in murders and violent crime in Dallas. I’m not sure I fully understand the anti-Hall animus — always seemed OK to me — but one way or another her days probably are numbered here. It’s really just a question of who does the numbering.

Hall also has a take on crime that many did not like. During a press Q&A, Hall mentioned that crime in Dallas is due to the fact that criminals get out of prison and upon not being able to get a job, turn to crime.

This created a massive amount of backlash, and Hall semi-walked it back in a tweet.

“Today my point was simple,” she Tweeted. “there is no excuse for crime. Crime in general, however, is on the rise in Dallas for many reasons. One of them being the lack of opportunity. In no way, am I using that as an excuse to commit a crime. However, we have to work together as a community to remain vigilant and proactive. I’ve asked our pastoral community, as a beginning, to develop ways to teach people how to resolve disputes without violence and find opportunities without resorting to crime.”

This response did not make Hall look at all competent as she essentially says that their is no excuse for crime and then proceeded to give excuses as to why crime is committed. While she’s not entirely wrong — joblessness after years in prison does drive people to crime and increases recidivism rates — Hall has made it very easy to go back to crime.

As I covered on Tuesday, insiders at the DPD have let us in on how Hall handles crimes, making it seem as if they’re being dealt with when really they’re not. This includes putting high-priority calls into the inboxes of supervising officers so it appears they’re being dealt with when, in fact, the officer is typically waiting around for other officers to become available to answer the call. Due to the low amount of officers available, he could be waiting anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour.

Another source told RedState that Hall dissolved the Vice department and that things like drug trafficking and prostitution essentially get a simple citation instead of an arrest now. Combine that with the fact that the DA has now no interest in prosecuting thefts that cost under $250 and you’ve got yourself a haven from criminals.

From the sound of it, there’s very little separating Hall and her firing except for red tape if that’s the way the Dallas Mayor would choose to go. Onlookers, however, are smelling blood in the water.

Excerpts From Jim Acosta’s New Book Show How Hilariously Self-Aggrandizing It Is

Westlake Legal Group jim-acosta-2-620x325 Excerpts From Jim Acosta’s New Book Show How Hilariously Self-Aggrandizing It Is white house Self-Aggrandizing sacrifice reporter Politics partisan Parody New York New Book misleading Laughable jim acosta Gross Front Page Stories Front Page Featured Story fake news Enemy of the People donald trump Dishonest democrats dan rather CNN BRAVE Biased

Jim Acosta is out there risking his life.

He’s currently on a media tour promoting his new book “Enemy of the People: A Dangerous Time to Tell the Truth in America.” The studios of CNN and under-attended book signings are his battlefield.

Acosta is in so much danger that he’s teaming up with Dan Rather for a public appearance at Barnes and Noble.

There’s a certain irony about the guy who constantly says “I’m not fake news!” teaming up with one of the godfathers of fake news. Whoever Acosta’s publicist is didn’t think that one through. Maybe Rather can riff on how he hated a President so much that he tried to pass off fake documents on the eve of an election. Acosta might learn a thing or two.

Want an example of just how highly Acosta thinks of himself and his profession? Here’s an excerpt from his new book.

This guy realizes he’s essentially irrelevant right? What real life consequences is he speaking of? I’m assuming he means death threats, of which he’s never produced any, but if he gets them he’s hardly the only media member, politician, or political figure to receive threats. This is especially true when someone purposely makes themselves polarizing by being so incredibly dishonest.

That’s not to say he deserves to be threatened, but neither does Donald Trump. Life in the public eye isn’t fair and the attempts to blame the President for any risks to his safety are just another transparent ploy for attention.

Of course, Acosta’s “danger” is largely a fairy tale. He goes on CNN to talk about how unsafe Trump rallies are, then he goes and takes selfies with the hecklers. It’s all a game to him.

The talk of sacrifice in his book is almost obscene. He makes millions of dollars to ask biased, partisan questions. There’s no nobility in that and there’s certainly no actual sacrifice. But Acosta views himself like a soldier on Okinawa, valorously storming emplacements as he shouts nonsensical questions at the President. I mean, there was that one time where he had to be outside when during the winter though. Such bravery.

While Acosta wants to blame others for the fact that a lot of people dislike him, the truth is that his ridiculously unfair reporting is the real reason. He’s routinely made things up, mislead audiences, and inserted himself in political discussions, all while insisting he’s just a journalist.

Regardless, for all the talk about the danger of his job, how many journalists have been attacked because Trump called them fake news? There hasn’t been a single one, so maybe Acosta is overplaying his hand just a bit. On the other hand, several journalists have been attacked just this year by left-wingers. No one wants to talk about that though because it doesn’t help the narrative.

Inflated egos of the degree shown in Acosta’s book are not a pretty sight to behold. They are just gross. There are real people out there everyday in various professions who actually risk their lives and they do so without fanfare or writing ridiculously self-aggrandizing books.

Acosta’s account of his vast sacrifice and importance reads more like a parody at this point and should be treated as such.

The Democratic Party Is Slipping Through Nancy Pelosi’s Fingers

Westlake Legal Group Untitled-2-1-620x317 The Democratic Party Is Slipping Through Nancy Pelosi’s Fingers progressives Politics Nancy Pelosi impeachment House Speaker Front Page Stories Featured Story democrats Democratic Party Allow Media Exception

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was the leader, nay, the face of the Democratic Party. Now, she is only so in name. Her speakership is, at this point, a title with less authority than “professor emeritus” at a small state school.

I think her instincts as to how to approach Trump are correct: Moderate the party, appeal to the middle, and try to pull the American public back to your side. This instinct, naturally, means that calling for impeachment, full-on socialism, and other radically leftist ideas need to be locked away until the party is back in power.

That instinct, however, also puts her at odds with the loudest parts of the party’s base, and it’s that base the rest of the Democrats in Congress appear to be appealing to. You have Eric “Who? Wait, that guy? He’s still running?” Swalwell calling for not only President Donald Trump’s impeachment but Attorney General William Barr’s as well. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is out there spewing whatever she can – no matter how little she knows about a subject, and Bernie Sanders is using his Democratic Socialism as the centerpiece of his “I’m not Trump” campaign.

It’s so bad that Joe Biden, who appeared to be going for the more centrist but progressive-leaning candidate and probably the one candidate most in-line with Pelosi’s philosophy, went back on a position he’s held for decades – supporting the Hyde Amendment – just because Alyssa Milano told him to.

The Pelosi wing of the Democratic Party is shrinking, which… should really concern the Democrats, because they are now giving in totally to their baser instincts.

It won’t concern them, though. They are really, really into the idea that Trump’s typically low approval ratings mean that he should be impeached and that the American public is clamoring for all the leftyist of leftist positions, ignoring the fact that those issues also don’t poll too well, especially when the full context is given on those issues.

But, they are choosing to believe that this is the path to take. The 2016 election never really happened, but Trump did steal his way into the office somehow. They can reverse it though by going even further to the left than Barack Obama – the man who very nearly killed their party – went when he was President. That’s the strategy.

If I were Pelosi, I would go ahead and announce my resignation, offer up my spot, take a couple years’ vacation and come back as a lobbyist while behind the scenes telling everyone she can how the Democratic Party, which won’t see a presidential victory in 2020 and quite possibly even 2024, decided to stop listening to her and start listening to idiots.

I believe it worked out when for John Boehner.

The Pelosi Speakership, though, is over. Her own committee chairmen don’t buy into her philosophy. They’d rather have the TV time and the support of presidential candidates who don’t stand a chance in 2020. She has even less power as Speaker than Boehner did, and he was basically out the door a year before his final re-election.

She is a relic of a bygone era, and that era appears to have ended in 2018.

Nancy Pelosi Says About Trump : “I’m Done With Him”

Westlake Legal Group PelosiTrump-300x160 Nancy Pelosi Says About Trump : “I’m Done With Him” Front Page Stories Featured Story Allow Media Exception 2019

You lost that loving feeling

Can the head of one half of the Article One branch actually say they are done with the head of the Article Two branch? Also how fast do you think Thomas Jefferson and John Adams are spinning in their graves?

Nancy Pelosi got a rare reprieve for a moment earlier today when she was asked by CNN’s Manu Raju about Donald Trump and not how Jerry Nadler is kicking her in the rear every day for not green lighting impeachment hearings. She made her response memorable.

According to CNN

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told CNN’s Manu Raju on Tuesday that she’s “done” with President Donald Trump but would not say whether she told Democrats behind closed doors that she’d rather see Trump “in prison.”

“I’m done with him,” Pelosi told Raju at the Fiscal Summit from the Peter G. Peterson Foundation.

“I don’t even want to talk about him,” she said, adding, “My stock goes up every time he attacks me, so what can I say, but let’s not spend too much time on that because that’s his victory, the diverter-in-chief, the diverter-of-attention-in-chief.”

If these two crazy kids can’t make it work what hope is there for the rest of us?

Nancy will not be effective at all for the remainder of this session if she is throwing Trump to the curb this early and won’t go and meet or deal with him. Also, the way that her caucus is building up some steam after that John Dean debacle yesterday, she will very soon want to be dealing with the guy living at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Let’s see how long this self-imposed temper tantrum lasts. I’m willing to bet less than 30 days and who knows maybe Donald, Nancy and Chuck can all meet again for an oval office visit and act like they actually can tolerate each other.

I can’t wait.

Prehistoric & Woke: Science Museum Designates Giant T-Rex as Gender Non-Binary Like Non-Binary Humans

Westlake Legal Group tyrannosaurus-447801_1280-620x413 Prehistoric & Woke: Science Museum Designates Giant T-Rex as Gender Non-Binary Like Non-Binary Humans Uncategorized Tyrannosaurus Rex transgender sue Sex richard t. pillardy Politics paleontology non-binary LGBT Identity politics gender Front Page Stories field museum Featured Story dinosaur Culture Chicago arc digital Allow Media Exception

Hey, all you paleontological bigots — get 2019 woke and stop being a dinosaur. To…dinosaurs.

At Chicago’s Field Museum sits a whole bunch of dead, old stuff — mummies, taxidermied lions…and a giant Tyrannosaurus.

The 40-foot T-Rex is about to enter the realm of politics, taking position as a lesson for young tykes and an example for those of us who wanna challenge the dictates of our birth: “SUE” the dinosaur skeleton is about to become an icon of non-binary sex.

From Arc Digital:

[Field Museum’s] administrators have decided to distort scientific understanding in pursuit of a political goal. In recent years, through her social media persona, SUE has asserted her gender identity. It all started on Twitter in March 2017. Reacting to a comment, SUE tweeted that her sex was unknown and that, like human gender non-binary people, she uses “they/them” pronouns.

Arc writer Richard T. Pillardy asserts that animals don’t have gender aspirations:

While it is true that her sex is indeterminate, this move conflates the exclusively human concept of gender and the incontrovertible reality of binary sex.

The move goes against the whole idea of “gender” as opposed to sex — and SUE’s possibly a dummy, or at least not confused:

In addition to misinforming visitors, the museum’s patronizing move in deeming SUE non-binary disrespects and misunderstands the very non-binary individuals it purports to help. The legitimacy of their identity need not rest on inaccurate interpretations of science, and it’s degrading to imagine that it should. The very concept of gender identity as distinct from sex was created to assert that human male, female, and other identity expressions were facts which were mental and social, not genital. With apologies to SUE and her reptilian cousins, they simply don’t have enough going on in their minds to express gender non-binary identity. Not to mention, we do not know anything about the mind of an animal whose brain rotted away maybe a million years before the Chicxulub asteroid event wiped out the rest of the T. rex species anyway.

Given that no one knows SUE’s actual sex, Richard makes a great point about pronouns to respect the dinosaur’s delicate sensibilities:

So, given the lack of conclusive evidence either way, it is most parsimonious to hold off on formally assigning SUE’s sex. There’s a perfect pronoun for that already: it.

Perhaps once the museum gets some real social justice cojones, they’ll commit to a sex — and then woke it up, Jack: “Ladies and gentleman, we’re proud to announce SUE, the first Trannosaurus.”

Joe Biden Is Running Jeb Bush’s Campaign

Earlier today, I was driving to lunch and flipped on the radio. I happened to catch about 10 minutes of Joe Biden’s much promoted (by CNN at least) speech, which has been billed the past few days as a coming “evisceration” of Donald Trump. Given that Biden has been in hiding lately, desperately trying to avoid gaffes, I was obviously skeptical that he’d be able to deliver anything really hard hitting.

What followed was a poorly performed greatest hits of every high-minded complaint we’ve heard from every anti-Trump personality, politician or otherwise, over the last three years.

Here’s a copy of the speech if you want to read all of it.

You got lines about how Trump is an existential threat (Biden clearly doesn’t know what that word means). You also got throwbacks to Hillary Clinton’s campaign with “the children are watching” pleas. He riffed on how great Barack Obama was and lamented that Trump would dare criticize London Mayor Sadiq Khan, who had previously attacked Trump and denied him any official courtesy. It was pretty much what you’d expect.

Then I saw this tweet and started to think.

Seeing him on video, coupled with the substance of the attacks he was making, reminded me of someone.

Jeb Bush.

The physical styling is nearly spot on. Biden looks like he’s about to pass out just reading a piece of paper. He rarely makes eye contact and his cadence is awkward and forced. It’s clear why his campaign has had him on lock-down lately. This is not a guy who can sustain another year and half of heavy campaigning. It’s bad enough that one must to question whether he can even keep pace during the primary season, much less the general.

But, it’s really not just the low energy jabs that Trump will inevitably throw at Biden that make the comparison. Biden’s speech is also reminiscent of much of Bush’s strategy back in 2015. The virtue signaling, appeals to decency, and fearmongering that Trump is going to destroy the country. Instead of focusing on policy or at least some fresh attacks on the President, he’s preaching a message people have heard already, over and over and over. It doesn’t resonate anymore, if it ever did. You can only whine about Trump’s supposed indecency so much before people tune it out and that point has long passed.

Take this line for example.

Everywhere you turn, Trump is tearing down the guardrails of democracy. It’s the abuse of power. And if there is one thing I can’t stand — it’s the abuse of power.

That’s as boiler-plate and played out of a line as you can get in politics today. It’s been said a million times by every facet of the left (and some on the right). Biden’s playbook comes across as old and done before in much the same way Bush’s ideas seemed old and out of touch by the time he presented them in the summer of 2015.

Even Biden’s primary strategy reminds me of Jeb Bush. Biden has jumped out to a lead based on name recognition, donor excitement, and establishment credibility. Yet, he’s mostly an empty suit and produces all the excitement of a root canal. What happens when the Democrat primary debates start and Biden can’t hide any longer? Bush was hoping to coast to victory, largely ignoring his primary opponents early on, just as Biden is trying to do now.

In a postmortem of Bush’s campaign, The New Yorker shared this critique, which is scarily similar to Biden’s current campaign.

Even before Trump entered the race, Bush, despite his position at the top of the polls, was having trouble. Rather than plunging into the contest at the start of 2015 and going full out, he decided on a soft launch. It consisted of a series of speeches and carefully orchestrated appearances, some of which went badly. He spoke woodenly, he didn’t have anything very new or fresh to say, and he made a number of gaffes, which encouraged his opponents and gave the media something to feast on.

Just like Bush, Biden “launched” his campaign on the back of several soft announcements, officially entering the race later than everyone else. Since then, Biden’s appearances have been carefully choreographed, canned speeches in front of friendly crowds. His delivery is stale and tired. Instead of diving headlong into the fray, Biden has sat in the shadows, terrified of making a mistake, showing himself much more comfortable in front of donors than voters.

Lastly, much like Bush did, Biden is already falling into traps being set by Trump. As my RedState colleague Jennifer Van Laar shared today, Biden walked right into the President’s snare by giving that speech today.

There are two take-aways from Trump’s comments on Biden. One, Trump is using the same type of strategy against the Democrat contenders that he used against his primary opponents in the 2016 primary, which is to focus on one opponent then attack them endlessly until they’re destroyed. Two, Trump wanted Biden to make the Ottumwa rally about Trump so that the media coverage and sound bites would feature Biden’s weak attempts at slamming Trump instead of Biden’s own message.

Trump may not be the most well-spoken individual, but he knows how to make people look weak and he succeeded in making Biden look weak today. While Biden was grasping the podium and reciting prepared remarks with all the tenacity of the 76 year old man that he is, Trump was taking shots off the cuff and laughing about it.

Joe Biden’s strategy is to ride a wave of backlash against Trump’s character flaws because he has nothing else to run on. It didn’t work for Jeb Bush in 2016. Perhaps it’ll work this time around. If the election is purely a referendum on Trump, it might not matter what Biden does. I wouldn’t bank on it though. If he doesn’t shift gears soon, Biden is going to get destroyed from his left before he even gets a shot at Trump.
