Talia Lavin, Who Falsely Trashed an ICE Agrent As a Nazi, Just Lost Her Gig Teaching “Journalism” for a Hilarious Reason

Westlake Legal Group seinfeld-laughing-SCREENSHOT-620x332 Talia Lavin, Who Falsely Trashed an ICE Agrent As a Nazi, Just Lost Her Gig Teaching “Journalism” for a Hilarious Reason wounded veteran Talia Lavin schadenfreude Politics NYU nazi Journalism Professor ICE Agent Front Page Stories Front Page fired Featured Story Far-Right Course Dan Crenshaw crazed

This is about as pure a case of schadenfreude as you can get.

Talia Lavin is a pretty volatile person. She’s most famous for trashing an ICE agent last year as a Nazi because she thought she saw an Iron Cross on his arm. It turned out that the agent fought in Afghanistan and had lost both legs. The tattoo was a unit insignia.

Not content with just trashing one wounded veteran, she then set her outrage on Rep. Dan Crenshaw.

She seems lovely doesn’t she?

After being fired from her fact-checking job at The New Yorker (she claims it was voluntary but I choose to not be gaslit), Lavin failed up by getting a journalism professorship at NYU, because people that make up stories for political reasons should totally be teaching the next generation of press members.

Welp, so much for that. Her class just got canceled. Why?

Because only two people signed up for it in the fall.

New York University has canceled an undergraduate journalism class that former New Yorker fact-checker Talia Lavin was scheduled to teach this fall after only two students signed up.

The decision to hire Lavin to teach the elective, “Reporting on the Far Right,” had drawn criticism since she resigned her New Yorker positionlast June after falsely accusing an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent of having a Nazi tattoo.

Well, that’s gonna rustle some jimmies.

Lavin will also not be invited back.

Penenberg also said it was unlikely his department would invite Lavin back. “It would make no sense to try it again, given how few students expressed interest,” he said. “We have no plans to offer Talia another course, simply because her main focus (and the focus of her upcoming book) is the far right.”

While it’s pretty funny to see justice catch up with Lavin, even indirectly, it’s still a really bad look that NYU ever invited her on as an “expert on the far-right.” This woman has no expertise on anything. She has zero journalistic ethics and spent most of her time railing in a partisan manner. It’s actually slightly encouraging that no one wanted to take her silly class.

So what’s next for Lavin? Who knows. I’m sure some left-wing publication will give her space to vent. You are never truly done when you shill for Democrat politics.

The Fabulous William Barr, The Right Man At The Right Moment

Every now and then, a uniquely qualified individual turns up at exactly the moment in history when they are needed most. And when historians reflect back on that moment years afterward, they cannot imagine any other person filling that particular role. Think Lincoln, Churchill, and Patton.

It’s almost as if Attorney General William Barr had been conjured up to meet this specific challenge. He’s folksy, yet savvy. He appears relaxed, yet he is keenly aware of every detail. He is highly intelligent and uncommonly articulate. He is bold and best of all, he’s on the President’s side.

Barr sat for an interview with CBS News legal correspondent Jan Crawford in Alaska to discuss Robert Mueller’s controversial “statement,” which was essentially an assault on the rule of law. Barr did not engage in the analysis of Mueller’s motives, nor did he criticize Mueller for triggering a new round of calls for the President’s impeachment. (I posted about Mueller’s comments here, here and here.)

However, Barr did make it crystal clear that, despite the Office of Legal Counsel guidance, Mueller “could have made a decision about whether it was criminal activity. He had his reasons for not doing it, which he explained. I’m not going to argue about those reasons, but when he didn’t make a decision, the deputy attorney general and I felt it was necessary for us, as the heads of the department, to reach that decision.”

He expressed his surprise when Mueller informed him he had not come to a conclusion. Because that’s what he was hired to do. He was expected to determine if any of Trump’s behavior rose to the level of criminality and to make a recommendation to the Attorney General.

Crawford said, “Well, he seemed to suggest yesterday that there was another venue for this, and that was Congress.”

Barr didn’t go there. He said, “I’m not sure what he was suggesting, but the Department of Justice doesn’t use our powers of investigating a crime as an adjunct to Congress.”

Crawford asked Barr to comment on Mueller’s remark that there were “multiple, systematic efforts to interfere in our election,” and any preventative steps the DOJ has taken.

Barr described a new, “increasingly robust program that is focusing on foreign influence in our election process. I talked recently to the director of the FBI about putting together a special high level group to make sure we’re totally prepared for the upcoming elections.”

She asked Barr if he believed that Obama administration had done enough to counter Russian interference in 2016 and he said, “no.”

Then, he segued into what he believes is an equally dangerous threat to a free election. He said he believes that “government interference into a U.S. election is just as dangerous as foreign interference.”He explained that was why he has opened an “investigation into the intelligence community’s actions in the run-up to the 2016 election…And it’s why he’s asked the president for the authority to declassify information that he thinks may be in the public interest.”

Crawford appeared concerned and asked, “What have you seen? What evidence?”

He replied, “Like many other people who are familiar with intelligence activities, I had a lot of questions about what was going on. I assumed I’d get answers when I went in, and I have not gotten answers that are, well, satisfactory, and in fact I probably have more questions, and that some of the facts that, that I’ve learned don’t hang together with the official explanations of what happened.”

Crawford asks what he meant by that.

He said, “That’s all I really will say. Things are just not jiving.”

In his understated and goodnatured way, he let the public know that he is aware of what occurred in 2016 and he is going to sort it all out. He even expressed amusement over the media’s latest concern which is that he might leak classified information. He did it all without accusations or hostility.

I am more convinced than ever that he is the exactly the right person to navigate the country through this tumultuous period in U.S. history. Trump’s nomination of William Barr was one of the best decisions of his presidency.

New York Times Decides Maddow and Lemon Are Giving Their Reporters a Reputation as Leftists

In the British Army of a past era, cavalry officers were regarded, with good reasons, as the somewhat stupid, possibly inbred, and unemployable byproduct of the upper classes, particularly the minor nobility. There was one such worthy, so the story goes, who was so deficient in intellect that the horses and begun to notice. To carry than analogy over to cable news, the New York Times has finally reached the point of the skeptical horse in this story. Or at least pretending to be.

On Sunday, May 19, New York Times finance editor David Enrich got a request from a producer at MSNBC to appear on Rachel Maddow’s show the following night. Enrich had a red-hot front-page story for Monday’s paper, about anti-money-laundering specialists at Deutsche Bank flagging suspicious transactions involving Donald Trump and Jared Kushner, and Maddow wanted to bring him on air to talk about it.

Maddow is MSNBC’s ratings queen, jostling with Sean Hannity every night for the crown of most-watched time slot in cable news. That’s why reporters tend to relish the exposure they get from doing her show. Enrich said yes, but after mentioning the planned appearance to the Times’s communications department, he was told he would have to retroactively decline. The reason? The Times was wary of how viewers might perceive a down-the-middle journalist like Enrich talking politics with a mega-ideological host like Maddow. The producer, who was informed that the Times asks members of the newsroom not to appear on opinionated shows to discuss political subjects, was miffed about the cancellation, sources said. Enrich declined to comment.

As incredible as it seems, the New York Times is concerned that Maddow and Larry O’Donnell and Don Lemon are such batsh** crazy leftists that viewers might start thinking that the New York Times employs batsh** crazy leftists and sends them out to proselytize. Ironically, there is a platoon of NYT journalists on retainer at either CNN or MSNBC:

A number of high-profile Times journalists have landed political-analyst gigs either at CNN or MSNBC (Maggie Haberman, Julie Davis, Patrick Healy, Mike Schmidt, Nicholas Confessore, Jeremy Peters, and others). It’s unclear whether they, too, would be encouraged to stay away from Lemon or Maddow or O’Donnell going forward, but the way cable-news contracts work is that contributors are obligated to appear on a network generally, not on this show or that.

Let’s be serious on this. The New York Times’s straight news section is at least as bug-eating crazy as Maddow or Lemon or O’Donnnell. Most probably make those three look rational. There is no one watching Maddow or Lemon or O’Donnell (this is almost literally true in the latter two cases once you eliminated airport terminals and waiting rooms at psychiatric hospitals) who thinks what they are watching is slanted left to begin with. This is simply a prophylactic measure the Times is taking before a very ugly presidential election so that it won’t have to own what is said by hosts of shows its reporters are guests on and what its reporters say when they are on those shows.

Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough. Screen grab via MSNBC and MRC-TV.

When Joe Scarborough isn’t hypocritically accusing someone else of “selling his political soul” and Mika Brzezinski isn’t hypocritically belittling other women for bravely stepping forward with their #MeToo stories, they’re making bizarre comparisons that strain the bounds of credulity.

Such was the case on Thursday. The husband and wife commentary team had a segment on the issue of impeaching President Donald Trump, and Joe went off the rails. Mika didn’t add much outside of sitting next to him and echoing his comments like a puppet.

Gregory Price at Newsbusters reports:

After saying earlier in the show that “our high schools need to teach civic classes and American history” in response to President Trump’s comments about Joe Biden in Japan, Scarborough demonstrated that he himself needs to go back to history class by drawing a very flawed analogy between the leadership of President Lincoln during the Civil War and Speaker Pelosi in the quest to impeach Donald Trump:

“I will say, Nancy Pelosi has to be calculating. Abraham Lincoln was calculating in saving the union. Early in the war, he said, “If the country has to be half slave, half free, if that saves the union, then I’m for that. If saving the union is required by letting all go free, then I am for that.” He was very calculating, and he moved to the position when he felt the American people were ready. Ready to move toward the emancipation of slaves. I’m not being critical of Nancy Pelosi here. I will say though, there are times though to not calculate. I would say when you have a president who has abused power more than any other President, not only in our lifetime, I just can’t think of any historical precedence, of any president who abused his position more– “

Watch video of the segment below:

Someone please tell Joe that we are not a nation of slaves, that Trump’s alleged abuses of presidential power don’t even come close to other historical examples, and that the state of our union does not depend on whether or not Pelosi will impeach Trump.

Good grief.

Chicago Police Department Releases Hundreds of Pages of Documents from the Jussie Smollett Investigation

Westlake Legal Group Smollett-Johnson-620x293 Chicago Police Department Releases Hundreds of Pages of Documents from the Jussie Smollett Investigation Television racism Popular Culture News law Jussie Smollett Hollywood hoax hate crime Front Page Stories Front Page Featured Story Featured Post Entertainment crime Chicago PD Allow Media Exception

It has been four months now that the Jussie Smollett case has been a national news story. The singer/actor who was a cast member of the Chicago-based Fox drama “Empire” has managed, in that time frame, to deliver more drama than the entire run of that program.

Last week a judge ruled that the court case, which had been bizarrely sealed following all 16 charges held against Smollett being dropped, would in fact become unsealed. “While the court appreciates that the defendant was in the public eye before the events that precipitated this case,” wrote Judge Steven Watkins in his decision, “it was not necessary for him to address this so publicly and to such an extent. By doing so, the court cannot credit his privacy interest as good cause to keep the case records sealed.”

The Chicago police has as a result released hundreds of pages of digital files related to its investigation. (Links to the PDFs are below.) While select elements of the files are redacted there are times where the particular players — specifically the Osundairo brothers — are evident in the redactions. It becomes rather clear in the various pages the police had a firm shift in their investigation, based on the collected information and began to regard Smollett as the hoaxer he is now recognized as being.

We see in the documents that the police recognized the Osundairo brothers as important figures while both were out of the country. A plan was put into place to arrest them as they returned to O’Hare Airport, and then execute a simultaneous search warrant of their home. It was on February 13 that the brothers confessed to perpetrating the false incident, which they say was staged and planned by Smollett. This was one day before Smollett’s now infamous Good Morning America interview.

In the report where Smollett gave details of his “attacker” he is described as:
5’10-6’00 180-200
Black Mask With Open Eyes Only, Dark Jacket/Top, Dark Pants

There is no mention made of there being a red MAGA hat. That was an embellishment that Smollett gave investigators in a subsequent interview. Also, on the day of the GMA appearance there is a follow up interview where detectives noted to Smollett there was a number of inconsistent details he gave about what the attacker was said to be wearing, and his declaration of their race. Victim now stated that he “Assumed they were white due to the comments that were made”.

One page describes the conditions on the evening in question:
WEATHER, LIGHTING:
Cold and Clear, 5 degrees, Artificial Street Lamp Lighting

As we speculated here in previous reports, those are not the kind of conditions in which individuals who are hoping their target might somehow arrive at 2:00 am would likely be staking out.

One page comes with the heading of MANNER/MOTIVE – Jussie SMOLLETT made false reports to the police claiming to be the victim of an aggravated battery. It is under this section that the police detail finding the surveillance video of the Osundario brothers shopping at the Beauty House store. They are recorded buying items, including a face mask, knit cap, gloves, a red hat, and sunglasses. It is almost surprising they are not recorded asking the clerk where they can find the “anonymous robbery/assault gear package”.

The staging of the assault was described by one of the brothers. He described how he punched Smollett in the face and began hitting about the body being careful to “pull his punches”. He also began rubbing his knuckle into SMOLLETT’S face trying to “bruise him” with hurting him to [sic]badly. Osundairo had been nervous about the car that had passed them and was trying to get the staged incident finished as quick as possible.

It is in this passage that we get confirmation about that hot sauce bottle that had been found in the area by the New York Post days following the incident. Osundario had brought a hot sauce bottle with him that contained bleach and at this time he poured the bleach onto SMOLLETT who was still on the ground.

The investigators also found that the Osundairo brothers were serving as more than personal trainers for Smollett. Based on text recovered from Smollett’s phone it was found they were a source of recreational drugs for the entertainer. It was found during the review of these text records that on numerous occasions Smollett would request that [redacted Osundairo name] procure items for SMOLLETT which SMOLLETT described as weed, Molly, or Whitney. The detectives acknowledge these to be requests for cannabis, extacy, and cocaine.

This lead investigators to conclude that payments from Smollett was in fact not for training as captioned.

The matter is sure to become of greater interest in future weeks. The police have stated they will soon be releasing video tapes from surveillance cameras they have obtained during the lengthy investigation. If you prefer to read the through the files there are three links to the released documents below.

Joe Biden’s Wife Praises the “Courage” of the Women Who Accused Him of Inappropriate Touching and It’s Awkward As Crap

Doesn’t this kind of undercut the idea that Joe Biden did nothing wrong and that the criticism against him was silly? The dude’s own wife is throwing him under the bus to pander to the left-wing base.

What’s MSNBC’s Mika Brzezenski is thinking right now after putting herself on the line to trash Biden’s accusers?

Former second lady Jill Biden on Wednesday praised the “courage” of women who spoke out about being uncomfortable after being touched by her husband, former Vice President Joe Biden

“It took a lot of courage for women to step forward and say, you know, you’re in my space, and Joe heard that,” Biden said while appearing on “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah.”

Jill Biden ends by assuring listeners that it won’t happen again (even though it literally just happened again with a 10 year old girl a few days ago).

“It just won’t happen again, he heard what they were saying,” Jill Biden said on Comedy Central.

Here’s the thing.

Joe and Jill Biden can’t have it both ways. If these abuses took “courage” to come forward about, then it’s serious enough to be disqualifying. On the other hand, if it’s just nonsense that Biden can hand wave away, then it took no courage to report. Pick one.

It must be really mind-numbing to have to dance around like this, but it’s what the Democrat party demands. They took legitimate abuses under the banner of the #metoo movement (i.e. Harvey Weinstein, etc.) and turned it into an all encompassing, illiberal tool of accusation. Now they are paying the price for that. And frankly, that’s a good thing.

The real question is what happens when Biden’s stammering, old self gets on a debate stage and is pressed on this by Kamala Harris or Elizabeth Warren? If he thinks this issue is over, he’s incredibly naive. We haven’t heard the last of this.

The Mueller Issue Isn’t Going To Move The Needle

Westlake Legal Group Robert-Mueller-620x325 The Mueller Issue Isn’t Going To Move The Needle Special Counsel Russia Investigation Robert Mueller President Front Page Stories Featured Story donald trump Congress Allow Media Exception

In a photo taken Wednesday, June 21, 2017, Special Counsel Robert Mueller departs after a closed-door meeting with members of the Senate Judiciary Committee about Russian meddling in the election and possible connection to the Trump campaign, at the Capitol in Washington. (AP Photo/J. Scott Applewhite)

I’ve been struggling to put my thoughts on the matter of Robert Mueller’s press conference, the overall report, and the media circus surrounding the entire investigation into the kind of structure that would be okay to put up as a column.

It’s not that it’s difficult to relay my conclusion, mind you. In fact, I dare say my conclusion is a lot more straightforward than the one Mueller gave us. Rather, it’s the fact that getting to where we are right now has been such a strange, convoluted, and often lie-filled journey. How does one come to a sensible conclusion while taking all of the madness of this process into consideration?

My conclusion is simple, and it hasn’t really changed since about a year into the special counsel’s investigation: The results don’t matter because both sides are going to see and hear what they want to see and hear.

We knew a couple of things going into this. One thing we knew is that the Department Of Justice doesn’t indict a sitting president. So to honestly believe that there was going to be any such indictment of Donald Trump when this was all over is to ignore the DOJ’s own precedent on the matter.

Another thing we knew is that there was never going to be any evidence that could definitively prove the Trump Campaign colluded with Russia, and specifically that Trump collided with Russia. We knew this because, as we’ve written a few times here at RedState before, Trump’s modus operandi is that he doesn’t get his hands dirty. He has people for that.

Specifically, he is the kind of guy who has the people working for him duke it out and whoever wins the debate is the person in charge for that moment. If Trump says “Make me President,” and Paul Manafort had the best idea, Trump would say to him to get it done using whatever means necessary. After all, Trump is a results-oriented guy. If he liked someone else’s ability to argue their point, he would give them the power to do what he needed. It was his way of getting what he wanted without ever getting his hands dirty.

So, we knew he wouldn’t get indicted and that there would be no evidence of collusion. That left us with obstruction.

The Democrats heard exactly what they wanted to hear and have decided that Mueller is telling THEM to indict Trump. The Republicans heard Mueller telling them that there was no provable crime committed. It’s all complex, you see.

But the people who have spent all their time and energy getting angry about this whole thing are really such a small percentage of the American population.

Only about half of voters think Mueller should testify before Congress, according to a mid-May Politico/Morning Consult poll, but while Democrats had the strongest opinions on the subject, only about half of Americans really want to see Mueller testify before Congress, and an equal amount had any sort of opinion on William Barr’s handling of the report.

That’s not exactly moving the needle on the issue of whether or not Trump is guilty of something, but the Democrats are convinced there is a there there. I don’t know if I buy the obstruction argument, though, and I suspect that you only have the people who are super active in political discourse on social media who have a strong opinion one way or another.

However, politicians and pundits are constantly overestimating how much of America is represented by people on social media or in cable news audiences. I don’t think you have near the numbers in the general public who care one way or another like you do those who frequently tune in to some media or another to catch the latest news reports.

At the end of the day, how much of America is really going to sit down and watch yet another Congressional hearing about the Mueller report or the special counsel’s investigation? How many people are actually hanging on to every word that’s reported about it? It’s not what you or I may initially think, and I think by assuming it is some grand audience, you actually push more people into political apathy over it.

Did Trump’s shenanigans during or after the campaign affect the American public? Or are they more interested in what Trump is doing for them (or against them)? My guess is that the economy, the job market, and other more tangible issues will occupy their minds more than this.

Professor Who Picked Last 9 POTUS Winners Picks Trump In 2020 To Win If

Westlake Legal Group trump-smirk2-300x200 Professor Who Picked Last 9 POTUS Winners Picks Trump In 2020 To Win If white house washington D.C. The Hill Social Media President Trump Morning Briefing Liberal Elitism Impeachment of President Trump impeachment Front Page Stories Front Page Featured Story Featured Post Entertainment elections donald trump democrats Conservatives Congress Bipartisanship Barack Obama American Universtiy Allow Media Exception Allan Lichtman 2019

You can hear heads exploding on that headline.

Everyone that follows politics at one time or another is a political prognosticator that will tell others who is going to win. That is about as American as Apple Pie and Nancy Pelosi jokes. Most of us get it wrong though.

Not this guy.

Political historian, Allan Lichtman from American University has picked the last nine Presidential winners and says that Trump will win in 2020 unless Democrats go ahead and impeach. According to The Hill

An American University professor who has correctly predicted the last nine presidential elections says President Trump will win the 2020 election unless congressional Democrats, “grow a spine,” CNN reported.

“It’s a false dichotomy to say Democrats have a choice between doing what is right and what is constitutional and what is politically right. Impeachment is also politically right,” Lichtman told CNN’s Brooke Baldwin on Wednesday.

Lichtman has developed a system of 13 “key factors” that help determine whether the party in the White House will maintain its hold, according to CNN. The factors range from whether the party has an incumbent president running to the country’s short- and long-term economic conditions to foreign policy successes and failures. If the party loses out on six factors or more, he says they will lose the presidency.

Wow. This guy might be a political savant but he also sounds angry and we all know angry professors are never fun to be around.

He is trying to reinforce something here that is being debated right now in the Democratic House leadership side. I covered part of this earlier today here at Red State with Who Was The Biggest Loser In The Mueller Presser? Nancy Pelosi and here After Mueller Press Conference Rashida Tlaib’s Call For Impeachment Gains Steam

Lichtman wants the Democrats to go full steam ahead on holding the hearings for impeachment and to have Trump and his administration be put on trial without the actual trial. This would keep the idea of scandals floating well into next years Presidential election cycle with tons of video floating around. Plus CNN would probably pair up Cuomo and Lemon for a Nancy Grace-style nightly breakdown of all the things Jerry Nadler did or didn’t find.

While the President has an extremely loyal base, at what point do others in the country just say enough is enough?

Pelosi knows the risks here and that is why she is slow-walking this while the newbies in her caucus are yelling full speed ahead. If Professor Lichtman is right impeachment is the only chance that any Democratic nominee for President has a shot of taking down Trump. So the choices are to run the impeachment route and gamble, or hope that the Dems pick someone who can take Trump on and win.

What to do, what to do.

Lichtman has picked the last nine winners which means Trump in 2016, so I’m going to have to give the nod to Trump winning next year.

In the meantime, I’m also going to advise that people stay away from any professor who seems grumpy. Paying that amount for college and having to deal with sourpusses just does not seem like fun compared to dealing with sourpusses on social media.

Social media is free.

Just to go ahead and spoil things, the beginning of that headline is sarcasm. But seriously, how many times do we have to do this crap?

I have a general rule with sensational Trump stories. Wait 24 hours before giving them any credence. The typically flow goes like this: Media outlet makes incredible claim painting Trump as evil incarnate. Every network picks it up and it’s also repeated by certain conservative accounts that must constantly let us know how fair and open-minded they are. Twelve hours or so passes and the story turns out to be anywhere for 0%-20% true and completely out context. Everyone moves on to the next faux outrage. Rinse, repeat.

This latest story about Trump supposedly trying to hide the USS John McCain followed that cycle exactly.

As Elizabeth Vaughn covered this morning, the WSJ first reported on the story as a exclusive bombshell showing just how petty and gross Trump is. I mean, how could he possibly ask the Navy to hide the U.S.S. John McCain when the guy is dead. Let him rest in peace, am I right?

Yeah, well except it was nearly 100% fake news.

After it became apparent that Trump had not actually ordered the Navy to hide the USS McCain so he wouldn’t have to be triggered by it, the media immediately started to move the goalposts.

No, it doesn’t raise any questions. At all.

“Well, Trump didn’t know anything about it but, man, he’s still awful isn’t it?” is essentially the premise behind that Times piece.

So what’s the real story?

In actuality, a staffer made a single line request in an email. Trump knew nothing about it, the Navy had the ship in full sight during the ceremony anyway, and no one was upset about anything that happened. The likely reason for the original request was to avoid any ironic photos being taken that would then make the media rounds. It almost certainly had nothing to do with Trump not being able to handle reading “John McCain” on the side of a boat.

Now, compare that to the initial story and the avalanche of media outrage it perpetrated.

I’ll also note that several big name conservatives fell for this garbage story (including some I really like), taking shots at Trump over it. Question: Have they learned nothing at this point?

I won’t name names because I don’t think it’s beneficial at this point, but if any of them happen to stumble across this post, I’d suggest taking a few hours next time before responding. You don’t have to virtue signal your open-mindedness immediately anytime a story like this pops up. It harkens back to the Covington Catholic incident, where a laundry list of conservatives rushed to condemn the teenagers, only having to issue apologies later.

Just wait next time, seriously.

Disney Threatens to Stop Filming In Georgia Over Abortion Legislation

The entertainment goliath known as Disney has now said it too will pull out of filming in Georgia over its “heartbeat bill” which prevents the abortion of a baby if a heartbeat is detected.

The first company to pull out of Georgia was Netflix, but as RedState’s Sarah Lee covered on Wednesday, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings has a history of donating to pro-life Republicans.

Now it appears that Disney is geared to walk away from the state according to a report from Reuters. Disney CEO Bob Iger said it would be “difficult” to continue shooting their movies there, as many of its cast and crew will not want to work in a pro-life state:

Asked if Disney would keep filming in Georgia, Iger said it would be “very difficult to do so” if the abortion law is implemented.

“I rather doubt we will,” Iger said in an interview ahead of the dedication for a new “Star Wars” section at Disneyland. “I think many people who work for us will not want to work there, and we will have to heed their wishes in that regard. Right now we are watching it very carefully.”

If the law takes effect, “I don’t see how it’s practical for us to continue to shoot there,” he added.

Georgia has become a hotbed for production companies due to tax credits available for shooting in Georgia. The industry has so far created 92,000 jobs in the state. Disney itself has shot two recent blockbusters there, Avengers: Endgame and Black Panther.

At this time, neither Netflix or Disney have pulled out of the state yet as the bill is not law. Even then, it’ll be interesting to see how these companies will react if and when it does. Filming in Georgia is lucrative and less expensive overall for these production companies, and we’ll see who can hold on to their principles more tightly, Georgia or Hollywood.

I’m betting on Georgia.

Besides, children are Disney’s primary target. They should have a vested interest in pro-life causes, especially Georgia’s. Every birth is a potential customer. For Disney, Georgia is worth more than a tax credit, it’s a source of revenue. This isn’t even considering the loss it will take due to potential boycotts from pro-life families. With its streaming service about to launch, Disney would do well to make middle-class families as happy as possible in order to maximize profits.
