CNN Prime Time talk show host Chris Cuomo can be super-annoying and narcissistic most of the time, but there are rare moments where he slips up and engages in actual journalism instead of spouting off flawed Democratic talking points.

Such was the case Wednesday night when 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke appeared on Cuomo’s program to discuss his controversial gun control plan and the “Hell yes” remarks he made at last Thursday’s presidential debate.

First, a recap of what O’Rourke said at the debate when asked whether or not he planned to take away people’s guns if elected president:

I am, if it’s a weapon that was designed to kill people on a battlefield. If the high impact, high velocity, when it hits your body, shreds everything inside of your body because it was designed to do that so you would bleed to death on a battlefield and not be able to get up and kill one of our soldiers.
[…]
Hell, yes, we’re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47. We’re not going to allow it to be used against a fellow Americans anymore.

Cuomo started off the segment last night by noting that President Trump tweeted yesterday that “Dummy” O’Rourke’s extreme position would make a gun control compromise bill harder. Cuomo then asked O’Rourke directly if he was in favor of actual gun confiscation:

CUOMO: All right, so let’s state the proposition. Are you, in fact, in favor of gun confiscation?

O’ROURKE: Yes, when it comes to AR-15s and AK-47s, weapons designed for use on a military battlefield.

The high impact, high-velocity round that is fired from those weapons, when it hits your body, expends all of its kinetic energy, destroying everything that’s inside. And I’ve met those who’ve survived fire from an AK-47. I’ve met those who’ve lost a family member. That belongs on the battlefield, does not belong in this country. So, when it comes to those weapons, Chris, the answer is yes. But when it comes to firearms used for hunting or self-defense, the answer is no.

After Beto admitted he was calling for gun confiscation, he then got testy with Cuomo by telling him not to “fearmonger” that the governnment was coming to take away people’s guns. Cuomo pushed back aggressively:

O’ROURKE: And I don’t want you or anyone else to get into the fear-mongering that some have fallen prey to, saying that the government’s going to come and take all of your guns. What we are talking about exclusively is weapons of war that have no place in our homes…

CUOMO: I hear you.

O’ROURKE: …no place on our streets, and should remain on the battlefield.

CUOMO: I hear you. We’ll talk law first and then politics. It’s not about fear-mongering. You just said it, Beto. You said you’re going to confiscate guns.

I don’t think you can do it legally. The Heller case makes it pretty clear that there’s an individual right to own. And I don’t think we’ve ever seen the U.S. government do a taking of private property like what you’re suggesting. So, I’m not fear-mongering. I’m repeating what you’re saying.

Watch the exchange between O’Rourke and Cuomo below:

Cuomo getting Beto to admit he was advocating for gun confiscation was significant, because the candidate has repeatedly and erroneously called his plan a “buyback” plan, which suggests the government will simply “buy back” your weapon. This is is faulty for two reasons:

1) The weapon was never the government’s to begin with so they wouldn’t be “buying back” anything, and 2) a “buy back” implies that the plan is voluntary. Beto’s plan is not voluntary in any way.

Cuomo also noted during the segment that a number of Democrats had more or less said what Trump did, that Beto had hurt chances for a compromise bill. O’Rourke then threw his fellow Democrats under the bus by suggesting they, too, had been “complicit” in the stalemate over gun control.

Beto’s position on this issue has not moved the needle on his presidential polling numbers. He still lags way behind the top tier.

The next Democratic debate is October 15th in Ohio. It remains to be seen if he will qualify.

NeverTrump Is So Disenchanted With Weld, Walsh, and Sanford That They Are Turning To Joe Biden As Their Savior

Used by permission of Ace of Spades HQ http://acecomments.mu.nu/?blog=86&post=377650

It was only a week or so ago that people were asking what it said about Vichy Republicans that travel under the name NeverTrump that they were encouraging the candidacy of the likes of Bill Weld, Joe freakin Walsh, and Mark Sanford (for the Mark Sanford fans, I’d remind you that he got his ass handed to him in his primary election by Katie Arrington and, as a result, Sanford sat on his hands and allowed the Democrats to win that seat by less than a percentage point, so please don’t bore me with stories about his political acumen) as an alternative to President Trump in the GOP primary. What it said, in my view, is pretty obvious. The most prominent NeverTrumpers are widely viewed as quislings and no one who wishes a career in conservative or GOP politics is going to associate with them for fear that the stench will permanently attach to them. The very best this bunch can hope for is it damage President Trump in a primary so he gimps into the general election like George H. W. Bush and gets beaten by some Democrat third stringer. The worst they can do is actively support the Democrat nominee…wait, what did I just say?

Republicans opposed to President Trump are quietly preparing to support Democratic front-runner Joe Biden, backing that could materialize in the primary as he attempts to fend off a surging Elizabeth Warren.

Some Republican operatives active in Never Trump circles are discussing the timing and what form support for Biden might take. Groups such as Stand Up Republic, co-founded by prominent Never Trump Republicans Evan McMullin and Mindy Finn, could target disaffected GOP voters in key micro-battlegrounds with finely tailored advertising in a bid to boost Biden in the Democratic primary.

Ana Navarro-Cárdenas, a Florida GOP operative who backed Jeb Bush in 2016 and has been close to Sen. Marco Rubio, attended a Biden campaign event last weekend, sitting on the front row stroking her dog Chacha. Biden turned to her and said, “I’ve got to sort of genuflect in this direction here because I’m afraid of her. No. I’m embarrassing her, I know — that’s my intention. We’ve been good friends for a long time.”

But Biden isn’t looking terribly strong right now. My gut feeling is that his current 20-something percent polling is his ceiling and as other candidates drop, their support will not go to Joe Biden. What happens when Elizabeth Warren gets the nomination (this is my prediction though I think Biden would be a much more difficult race for Trump)?

“Never Trump means what it says: Never Trump. Under no circumstances can you embrace that man coming back to the White House,” countered Jerry Taylor, who runs the Niskanen Center, a centrist Washington think tank that has become a gathering spot for anti-Trump Republicans. “Most Never Trump Republicans that I traffic with are of the mind that any electoral outcome that doesn’t return Donald Trump to the White House is a good outcome, save for the wild card of Bernie Sanders.”

It’s time to call this nonsense exactly what it is. The NeverTrump people are not conservatives and they are not Republicans. They petulant little kids who are engaged in virtue signaling in the short term. Their conceit is that if they contribute to a Trump defeat that the GOP that remains after the defeat will call upon the people who contributed to that fiasco and give them leadership positions and lucrative consulting contracts. It’s not going to happen. If they persist in this they will be ridiculed and ostracized as the assclowns and quislings they are regardless of Trump’s fate in 2020.

James Comey’s Congressional Testimony Isn’t Matching What He Told the Inspector General

The Inspector General report covering abuses in the Trump-Russia investigation, including FISA abuse, is done. Members of Congress are already looking at portions of it and the results are expected to be pretty bad for several former Obama officials.

In the case of former FBI Dir. James Comey, questions are arising about whether he told IG Horowitz and Congress the same story. Initial indications are producing doubt that he did.

This via Rep. Mark Meadows during a hearing yesterday with Horowitz (quotes from HotAir).

“We’ve taken, now, your report and we’ve put it side by side [with] congressional testimony that James Comey made before the joint oversight and judiciary hearing and I’m finding just a number of irregularities,” Meadows said. He continued, “So would it be appropriate if ranking member Jordan and I were to refer those inconsistencies to the IG and if we did that would the IG look at those inconsistencies?”

“It’s certainly appropriate for us to get a referral about a then-employee of the department, which is I think the hearing you’re probably referencing, and then we would assess it,” Horowitz replied.

What Meadows is asking is if he (and other members) can send a referral to Horowitz to look at specific discrepancies between the two testimonies. This could conceivably lead to even more changes being made to the IG report it self.

The problem here is the example Meadows gives.

“I’ll give you one example,” Meadows said. Referring to testimony Comey gave in December of 2018, Meadows continued, “Mr. Gowdy was asking, he said ‘Did you initiate an obstruction of justice investigation based on what the president said?’ It was a very clear question. Mr. Comey said ‘I don’t think so. I don’t recall doing that so I don’t think so.’

“However, on page 13 of your IG report, it says that Comey purposefully leaked the memo so that they could have a special counsel appointed to investigate obstruction of justice. So two of those can not be true. They’re at opposite dynamics in terms of what they’re constructing. And we have dozens of examples where that has happened.”

Yes, those two ideas are opposed and signal that Comey was saying one thing while trying to do another, but it’d be difficult to prove he lied. Starting an investigation vs. trying to get a special counsel appointed are technically different things even if they arrive at the same end game, i.e. an obstruction investigation of the President. Comey was clearly lying in spirit to Congress when he told them he didn’t initiate an obstruction investigation because that’s exactly what he did and had the intent to do by leaking the memo. But again, technically, he didn’t start the investigation, Rod Roseinstein did.

Meadows does claim he has dozens of other instances to share and perhaps he’s holding those close to his vest to give to the IG first. It’s always safe to be skeptical though. We’ve heard a lot of things over the past few years that simply haven’t materialized. No doubt Comey was corrupt, but will he actually be charged? That’s really all that matters and as long as the answer is no, faith in those institutions will continue to wane.

As far as the IG report itself, I’d expect its release next month. It’s already going through the process of revisions and redactions. All indications are it’s going to be brutal and find the Page FISA warrants were illegal, but don’t count your chickens before they hatch.

U.S. Navy Official Confirms UFO Videos Released In 2017, 2018 Are Genuine

Westlake Legal Group chile-navy-ufo-620x338 U.S. Navy Official Confirms UFO Videos Released In 2017, 2018 Are Genuine Uncategorized unauthorized/unidentified aircraft/objects The Black Vault Jr. John Greenewald GoFast Gimbal Front Page Stories FLIR1 Featured Story

(Note: Greenewald published his article on September 11. In the last 48 hours, most major media outlets have covered his story including Fox News.)

According to The Black Vault’s John Greenewald, the spokesperson for the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Information Warfare, Joseph Gradisher, admitted that the videos referred to as the ”FLIR1,” “Gimbal” and “GoFast” were, in fact, “Unidentified Aerial Phenomena” or UAPs. The “FLIR1” and “Gimbal” videos were released by the New York Times and The Stars Academy of Arts & Science (TTSA) in December 2017. The third video, “GoFast” was released in 2018.

Greenewald explains that the Navy uses the UAP as opposed to UFO because it is the “basic descriptor for the sightings/observations of unauthorized/unidentified aircraft/objects that have been observed entering/operating in the airspace of various military-controlled training ranges.”

Moreover, the Navy refers to these videos by the dates they were taken. “[The] dates are 14 November 2004 for ‘FLIR1’ and 21 January 2015 for both “Gimbal” and “GoFast.”

Gradisher said:

The Navy has not publicly released characterizations or descriptions, nor released any hypothesis or conclusions, in regard to the objects contained in the referenced videos.

The Navy considers the phenomena contained/depicted in those 3 videos as unidentified.

The “FLIR1” video was taken off the coast of San Diego. The ‘Gimbal’ and ‘GoFast’ videos were taken off the coast of Virginia during what looks to be the same event.

The “FLIR1” video became known as the “Tic-Tac Incident” and a film entitled the “Nimitz Encounters” was made about it. The producer of this movie, Dave Beaty, a UFO enthusiast, said that knowing the exact dates of these sightings helps determine the location of their occurrence. He told Greenewald:

The fact that we now know the dates of the ‘Gimbal’ and ‘GoFast’ videos helps put one more piece of the puzzle together. The deck logs from the USS Normandy, the cruiser in the USS Roosevelt Strike Group, shows she was in a specific location off the coast of Florida and Georgia. Specifically, a little more than 100 miles east, equidistant between Jacksonville and Savannah. This is the JAX OPAREA. The cruiser stays with the carrier at all times during operations. So now we not only know the date, but the estimated position of the UAP.

Gradisher refused to provide further information to Greenewald.

Greenewald writes:

Although many theories have been proposed on what these UAP encounters are, some believe they may simply be a biproduct of U.S. military training exercises utilizing classified drone or related technology. Unbeknownst to the pilots involved, these classified instruments are utilized in their field of view, captured on infrared cameras, and certain members of the military may not be ‘read in’ to what classified technology they may be witnessing. Although that seems like a plausible explanation for these encounters, these new statements by the Navy labeling the cases as “unidentified aerial phenomena” are making some second guess that theory.

In December 2017, Fox News reported that “the Pentagon had secretly set up a program to investigate UFOs at the request of former Sen. Harry Reid, (D-NV).”

In a June 2019 interview with a Nevada radio station, Reid, expressed his desire for lawmakers to hold public hearings into what the military knows. He said, “They would be surprised how the American public would accept it. People from their individual states would accept it.”

Nunes: Horowitz Will Likely Find All Four FISA Warrants Against Page Were Illegally Obtained

Westlake Legal Group carter-page-SCREENSHOT-620x350 Nunes: Horowitz Will Likely Find All Four FISA Warrants Against Page Were Illegally Obtained Uncategorized Front Page Stories Featured Story

Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz finished his FISA application report and turned it over to Attorney General William Barr on Friday to be scrubbed of any classified information, leading Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) to tell Sean Hannity Tuesday he believes all four FISA warrants used to spy on Carter Page will be found to be illegally obtained.

Fox News host Sean Hannity broached the topic with the top Republican on the House Intelligence Committee during an interview Tuesday evening, saying, “We keep hearing that the FISA report by the inspector general is going to be devastating. I would assume that he concludes that all four FISA applications and warrants were obtained illegally. Do you see any different conclusion than that?”

“No, I don’t, Sean,” Nunes replied.

The report is said to be circulating among lawmakers on Capitol Hill which may be why, according to the Washington Examiner, Nunes, Hannity, and Former U.S. Attorney Joe diGenova are insisting that the “initial FISA warrant against Page and the three renewals at three-month intervals were illegally obtained.” Those warrants were obtained from October 2016 to June 2017.

The now-discredited Steele dossier is thought to have been used to obtain the warrants, and there is some question as to who within the FBI and Justice Department may have known the allegations contained in the dossier were unverified, and that the dossier was paid for by Donald Trump’s political opponent Hillary Clinton.

Nunes told Hannity the report will be released to lawmakers in the coming weeks who will then figure out how to release it to the public.

“We don’t want to see it all blacked out. We want the American people to see everything,” Nunes said. “In order for that to happen, a lot of the documents that we have been requesting to be declassified have got to be declassified now. I would only add on just one final point on all of this and that is that Durham needs to gather all of the evidence and needs to make sure, whatever he takes, if he’s going to actually do a prosecution of these dirty cops, he needs to have all the evidence. He needs to get it right. Because we want to make sure that justice is definitely served in this case.”

Kamala Is All-In On Iowa, Why Won’t She Talk About A Key Issue For Their Voters?

With current polls putting her at around five percent, Kamala Harris is pinning all of her hopes on Iowa.

Politico reports that Harris “is planning to make weekly visits to the state and nearly double the size of her 65-person ground operation” after being absent from the state since her 17-stop bus tour in August.

Then there are completely candid moments  like that that she definitely didn’t expect the press to report on, while being completely aware that their job is to follow her around and report on what she says.

Amazing that the press just happened to catch that, isn’t it? What luck!

If Iowa is her last hope, there’s one big thing missing from her messaging- corn. Iowa is the largest producer of corn in the United States year after year (and the United States is the largest producer of corn in the world). So, why isn’t she talking about ethanol?

She’s in a tough spot.

Ethanol isn’t environmentally friendly and, as such, is very anti-Green New Deal, who was an original co-sponsor of the Sen. Markey’s original legislation. We know that the environment is a huge issue for Democrat party voters- CNN even held a 7-hour townhall on that alone, something they haven’t done for any other single issue.

Harris could court those voters by talking about wind, for example. It’s now more cost-effective than many fossil fuels, and it even matters to Iowa. As one of the largest wind-producing states in America, it is fueling their new tech industry. She’s not talking about that either, though, just going after fossil fuels.

Still, Iowa is farm country, and they rely on corn. She could still win Iowa if she took on a stance that supported free trade, since other countries like Brazil are happy to buy our ethanol. Ted Cruz won Iowa while running against Renewable Fuel Standards (the EPA’s requirement that fuel contain renewable fuels like ethanol) so it’s possible, but you have to stand for something.

Kamala won’t commit to anything, and that’s the real problem here.

Most high-profile Democrats who have criticized Beto O’Rourke’s gun confiscation plan have done so from the perspective that they believe it’ll hurt the party in years to come, and that it’s undoable.

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV), however, is a different kind of Democrat with a different kind of perspective when it comes to the issue of gun rights. He was asked about O’Rourke’s gun control position on Thursday and gave a response reminiscent of the late actor Charlton Heston’s “cold, dead hands” 2000 NRA convention speech:

Manchin told a Wall Street Journal reporter that the former Texas representative did not speak for all Democrats when vowing to complete mandatory buybacks for certain high-powered rifles.

“Beto’s one human being,” Manchin said, according to a Journal reporter. “He gave his own opinion, OK? I think it was very harmful to make it look like all the Democrats. I can tell you one thing: Beto O’Rourke’s not taking my guns away from me. You tell Beto that OK?”

However, Manchin’s office reportedly told NBC news the senator does not own an AR-style gun.

At last Thursday’s Democratic presidential debate, O’Rourke said “Hell yes” in response to ABC News debate moderator David Muir’s question about whether or not he was going to take away people’s guns if elected president:

MUIR: Some of the stage have suggested a voluntary buy-back for guns in this country. You have gone further. You said, quote, “Americans who own AR-15s and AK-47s will have to sell them to the government, all of them. You know that critics call this confiscation. Are you proposing taking away their guns and how would this work?

BETO O’ROURKE: I am, if it’s a weapon that was designed to kill people on a battlefield. If the high impact, high velocity, when it hits your body, shreds everything inside of your body because it was designed to do that so you would bleed to death on a battlefield and not be able to get up and kill one of our soldiers. When we see that being used against children and in Odessa, I met the mother of a 15-year-old girl who was shot by an AR-15 and that mother watched her bleed to death over the course of an hour because so many other people were shot by that AR-15 in Odessa, there weren’t enough ambulances to get to them in time. Hell, yes, we’re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47. We’re not going to allow it to be used against a fellow American anymore.

President Donald Trump also lashed out at Beto Thursday, noting on Twitter that “Dummy Beto’s” debate declaration on taking guns had “made it much harder to make a deal” in Congress on a compromise gun control bill by basically confirming what gun rights activists have been saying about Democrats for years: They’re coming for your guns.

Newest Claim By Authors of Kavanaugh Book Is The Most Farfetched Of Them All

Westlake Legal Group kavanaugh-620x349 Newest Claim By Authors of Kavanaugh Book Is The Most Farfetched Of Them All The Education of Supreme Court Robin Pogrebin Politics Mainstream Media Liberal Elitism Kate Kelly Justice Brett Kavanaugh journalism Huffington Post Front Page Stories Featured Story democrats Allow Media Exception 2020

On Wednesday evening, New York Times reporters Robin Pogrebin and Kate Kelly, co-authors of the hit piece about Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, attended a National Press Club event in Washington, D.C. The president of the club, Alison Kodjak, later tweeted that the women told fellow guests that Kavanaugh had agreed to be interviewed “for their book – If they wrote that they didn’t talk with him.” She wrote that they refused to this condition and “walked away from the interview.”

Fox News’ reported they had contacted Kavanaugh’s office, but did not receive an immediate response.

Call me skeptical, but I can’t imagine Kavanaugh even entertaining an interview with hostile reporters knowing there was a 100% chance that his words would be twisted to fit their narrative.

Nor do I find it conceivable that Kavanaugh would take the risk of putting himself into the very situation that he now finds himself – the women reporting ‘Kavanaugh told us that if we lied and said he didn’t meet with us, he would meet with us.’

The Huffington Post reported the story with this headline, “NY Times Reporters Say Kavanaugh Asked Them To Lie In Exchange For An Interview.” And this was their lede: “New York Times reporters Robin Pogrebin and Kate Kelly said that Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh agreed to let them interview him for their upcoming book ― as long as they would publicly lie about it.”

According to the Huffington Post, “Kelly and Pogrebin said they couldn’t agree to the justice’s terms, so they couldn’t conduct the interview.” The article includes tweets from the Washingtonian’s Andrew Beaujon writing that Kavanaugh “wanted a line in there saying he had declined an interview. They were on their way to Washington to interview him.” This implies something even worse, that Kavanaugh had initially agreed to an interview, then once they were on their way, he altered the conditions.

But, in the end, Beaujon implies that Kelly and Pogrebin had too much integrity to agree to those terms. Please.

It sounds too much like the fable of the crocodile who convinces a frog he will transport him safely across a fast moving river and, of course, eats him before they reach the other side. Why? Because it is in the crocodile’s nature.

Pogrebin and Kelly will go on dropping incendiary soundbites to keep the Kavanaugh story alive and to sell books. Because it is in their nature.

Note: I will update this post if Kavanaugh’s office issues a comment.

Canadian PM Justin Trudeau Wearing “Brownface” Is the Scandal We All Need Right Now

Canadian Prime Minister Justin has gone and done it. The famously liberal and weak kneed leader from the North has been caught in a scandal involving his wearing of “brownface” back in 2001. Yes, this happened in this century. TIME magazine uncovered the picture in a yearbook.

Justin Trudeau, Canada’s prime minister, wore brownface makeup to a party at the private school where he was teaching in the spring of 2001. TIME has obtained a photograph of the incident.

The photograph has not been previously reported. The picture was taken at an “Arabian Nights”-themed gala. It shows Trudeau, then the 29-year-old son of the late former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, wearing a turban and robes with his face, neck and hands completely darkened. The photograph appears in the 2000-2001 yearbook of West Point Grey Academy, a private day school where Trudeau was a teacher.

Tell me you didn’t read that and the theme song from Aladdin didn’t pop into your head?

TIME assures me this is really serious. Here’s a picture of the incident.

Look, I’ve got to give the guy props. If he dressed like that and still managed the accompaniment of the female sex, dude must have game, right? Although, I’m not sure what’s up with him trying to choke her out as the photo is taken. Must be a Canadian thing.

Here was Trudeau’s hilarious comment.

He’s citing another picture that also caused an uproar several years back in which his family dressed up in traditional Indian garb.

This guy has the cultural awareness of Jerry Nadler at a Chinese buffet.

But seriously, let’s talk about this. Can anyone tell me what the heck “brownface” is? Has anyone ever even heard that term before Trudeau’s latest fashion faux paux? I’ve been under the impression that the entire reason blackface is offensive is because of its history of being used in the mockery of African-Americans, especially during times of oppression? In the context of minstrel shows, slavery, and the later Jim Crow era, it certainly makes sense that blackface would be seen as something to avoid and I’ve got no problem being sensitive to that.

Here’s the thing though, Arabs aren’t oppressed, at least not outside of their own Arab leadership. In fact, the history of the Middle Eastern civilization is one of aggression, invasion, and conquering others into submission. At what point did we decide dressing up like Aladdin is actually mocking an oppressed class, because I’m pretty sure it’s not. This is the same appropriation we see from certain Democrats like Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Rashida Tlaib, who want to pretend their backgrounds are in anyway comparable to the African-American struggle in American history by labeling themselves “women of color.”

As my colleague Kira Davis wrote earlier this year, the struggle of being black in America is unique and should be respected as such. It’s not something to be hi-jacked by everyone with pigmentation levels below your average Italian. This entire ordeal is just dumb. There’s nothing inherently racist or wrong about dressing up like Aladdin for a costume party and it is not the same thing as dressing up like a African-American, who’s history includes systematic oppression and mockery.

Trudeau should laugh this off. But he’s gonna bow before the woke mob because that’s all the left knows how to do these days.
