Former Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO). Screen grab via MSNBC.

Though Joe Biden has faced lots of criticism in Democratic party circles in recent days for speaking on being able to work with segregationist Senators to get things done, one Democrat is rushing to his defense – and making some bizarre comparisons in the process.

Former Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) appeared on MSNBC Thursday morning to discuss the backlash the 2020 frontrunner has received, and she was specifically asked about Sen. Cory Booker’s (D-NJ) strong reaction to what Biden said.

Noting that Biden and Booker were “both good friends” of hers, McCaskill claimed that “context” was needed on this issue. She then went on a rambling explanation about how 60 votes are needed in the Senate to get things done, and that Biden’s overall point was correct – that you have to be able to work with people you don’t necessarily like in order to find common ground and pass legislation.

She then stated that “Biden is trying to convey that he can work with really creepy, stinky people.” Immediately after that is when she referenced Senators that Booker and other Democrats have had to work with.

“And by the way, Cory Booker worked with Jeff Sessions. And AOC is workin’ with Ted Cruz. I mean these are pretty stinky, creepy people themselves, right?”

After wrongly equating Republican Sens. Cruz and Sessions to segregationist Democratic Sens. Eastland and Talmadge, the former Missouri Senator – ironically – said it was a “big mistake” for Biden to use Eastland and Talmadge as examples.

Watch the segment below:

The problem with McCaskill’s argument isn’t just that she’s looney tunes when comparing Cruz and Sessions to Eastland and Talmadge, but also in the fact that in the early days of Biden’s career he actively sought help from Democratic segregationist Senators to help him argue against one of the left’s signature issues: Mandatory busing as a way to help desegregate public schools:

Biden himself wasn’t against desegregation, but opposed forced busing as a means to achieve that goal. But because he didn’t go all in on it means, in modern terms, that his nuanced position was no better than the “creepy, stinky” racist Democratic Senators who he sought to work with at the time.

That said, those are the left’s rules of engagement these days. And while it’s good to see them actually applying their (normally double) standards to one of their own, McCaskill really should just stick to Games of Thrones critiques.

Because when it comes to making political comparisons, she sounds a little too “creepy, stinky” to be taken seriously.

SCOTUS Rules Against Atheist Scolds In Maryland Peace Cross Decision

For nearly 95 years a 40-foot tall Latin cross has stood on public land in Bladensburg, MD, to commemorate US war dead in World War I. For most of that time the cross was uncontroversial, but then in 2014 a group of liberal atheist scolds operating under the guise of the “American Humanist Association” filed a lawsuit demanding that the monument be demolished because it gave them the heebie-jeebies every time they looked at it and because this cross on public land meant that Christianity was established as the official religion of the United States. A federal district court heard the case and granted summary judgment against the scolds, but the Fourth Circuit not only threw out the judgment, it ruled that the cross was unconstitutional and sent the case back to the lower court for a decision on what to do next…presumably something involving bulldozers. Today the Supreme Court issued a 7-2 ruling, Alito writing the majority opinion and Sotomayor and Ginsburg dissenting, which said, in essence, “yeah, its a Christian symbol and get over it.”

The opinion was interesting because the reasoning that Alito took, and which brought a solid majority along with him, basically ignored the historic Lemon test for determining if a religious symbol was too hurtful to be displayed on public grounds. That test sets the bar at the practice or object serving a secular purpose, its principal effect does not advance or inhibit religion, and it does not create an “excessive entanglement with religion.”

Via SCOTUS Blog:

Justice Samuel Alito wrote for the court today, in an opinion that once again eschewed the use of the Lemon test. Alito began by explaining that although the cross “came into widespread use as a symbol of Christianity” and continues to have that meaning today, it “has also taken on a secular meaning” in other contexts. In particular, Alito noted, the cross became a “central symbol” of World War I – which likely explains the choice to use a massive cross as the memorial for the Prince George’s County soldiers.

Alito then reasoned that in cases involving longstanding religious memorials or symbols, the Lemon test should not apply. At least when the question is whether to keep them in place, rather than to put up new ones, Alito emphasized, there should be a presumption that they are constitutional.

That presumption, Alito continued, applies here: Not only did the cross start off with the “added secular meaning” associated with World War I, but it took on “historical importance”: It reminds local residents of the conflict and the sacrifices that area soldiers made. On the other hand, there is no evidence that Jewish soldiers were either “deliberately left off the list on the memorial” or “included on the Cross against the wishes of their families.”

“The cross is a Christian symbol,” Alito concluded, “but that fact should not blind us to everything else that the Bladensburg Cross has come to represent. For some, that monument is a symbolic resting place for ancestors who never returned home,” while for others “it is a place for the community to gather and honor all veterans and their sacrifices for our Nation.” “For many of these people,” Alito stressed, “destroying or defacing the Cross that has stood undisturbed for nearly a century would not be neutral and would not further the ideals of respect and tolerance embodied in the First Amendment.”

Justice Clarence Thomas also would have allowed the cross to stand, but for a different reason: He believes that the Constitution’s establishment clause does not apply to the states at all. Even if it did apply to the states, he added, there would still not be any constitutional violation – either because the establishment clause only applies to laws passed by a legislature or because the clause requires actual coercion by the government.

Justice Neil Gorsuch also agreed that the cross should be permitted to remain in place, but he argued that the case should be dismissed, because the challengers do not have a legal right, known as “standing,” to bring a lawsuit. Simply being offended by the cross’s presence is not, Gorsuch contended, enough to justify the lawsuit.

And predictably, the legal big brains on the left went full bore theocracy:

On the one hand, the decision did what was needed. It kicked this bunch of anti-religious scolds to the curb and told them to get a life and it did it in a way that will make the lawfare being conducted against religion to continue. On the other hand, it left in place an, in my view, unconstitutional prejudice against Christian symbols and references in the public square…because let’s face it, we live in a society where the prohibition on an establishment of religion is regularly employed to suppress Christian imagery and yet school children can be required to recite the Muslim shahada in order to pass a high school history class. The court should have jettisoned the whole mess and simply stated that unless a government was forcing people to profess a particular faith in order to receive services or to hold office, that religious symbols were, by definition, not establishing religion.

Things Get Lit As Joe Biden and Cory Booker Exchange Blows Over Segregationist Comments

As I wrote on yesterday, Joe Biden made his first major gaffe of the 2020 campaign and it was a pretty big deal.

It managed to wrap up several key negatives for Biden in one single, ill-advised rant. Not only did he appear to tacitly praise segregationists as being “civil,” he did so while attacking the far left of his own party. In the end, he pleases no-one. Not the Biden friendly minority voters who supported Obama nor the radicals who are more apt to support Sanders or Warren.

Sen. Cory Booker, who’s 2020 campaign has never really taken flight, has decided to try to capitalize on this by going hard at Biden for the remarks.

Others, including Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren also hit him in statements to the press.

In response, Biden doubled down, suggesting that it’s actually Booker who should apologize.

Inject this directly into my veins.

Not to be outdone, Booker then ran to Don Lemon’s show on CNN, which is basically a venue for anyone who wants to accuse someone else of racism. That’s Lemon’s entire shtick.

Even more hilariously, some Democrats are now hitting Biden for using the phrase “racist bone,” asserting that Biden saying he’s not a racist actually makes him a racist. I didn’t say it had to make sense.

Biden is starting to take fire from all sides and nothing I’ve seen from him says to me that he has the physical, nor political stamina to absorb the barrage.

As I’ve said a few times this week, these attacks from fellow Democrat primary opponents are a preview of next week’s debate. Whether it’s him not being far-left enough or these latest comments speaking well of segregationists, he’s going to be hit and hit hard.

Now, if he were as smart as Donald Trump when it comes to handling your opponents, Biden would just hit back and own the criticism. He’s not though so he won’t. He’ll instead continue to try to kowtow to the left while desperately clinging to his moderate appeal at the same time. It won’t work and it’s going to come crashing down.

In the voice of George Constanza from Seinfeld, “A Biden divided against itself…can not stand.”

Chris Cuomo Had the Proper Reaction to Amy Klobuchar Saying Democrat Rallies are As Large as Trump’s

Westlake Legal Group Capture-5-620x329 Chris Cuomo Had the Proper Reaction to Amy Klobuchar Saying Democrat Rallies are As Large as Trump’s rallies Politics Front Page Stories Featured Story donald trump democrats Chris Cuomo Amy Klobuchar Allow Media Exception 2020 Elections 2020

Trump’s packed rallies are hard to ignore. The polls telling us that Trump is being crushed under the heal of the Democrat of the day can be thrown around till the cows come home, but it’s hard to square numbers someone gives you with numbers you can physically see.

As I covered on Wednesday, the attendance at Trump’s rallies is eclipsing the numbers seen at Democrat gatherings, even frontrunner Joe Biden’s. This fact is worrying for Democrats, and so far, only CNN’s Chris Cuomo is addressing the Republican elephant in the room.

In an interview with Amy Klobuchar on Wednesday, Cuomo asked the Democrat 2020 candidate up front why Democrats aren’t attracting the kinds of crowds Trump is. Klobuchar responded by flat out saying that Democrats are packing stadiums like Trump, it’s just that you don’t see it because there are so many Democrats.

“Why don’t Democrat pack stadiums the way this president does?” asked Cuomo.

“Oh but we do!” responded Klobuchar. “We just have a lot of stadiums we’re packing at the same time.”

Cuomo didn’t verbally respond, but the incredulous expression on his face spoke for him louder than words ever could.

Cuomo later admitted that he doesn’t agree with Klobuchar at all and that “size does matter.”

He’s not wrong. In 2016 we saw the same exact thing happen with Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. Clinton continuously beat him in the polls, yet Trump packed stadiums while Clinton had to find various ways to play with crowd optics.

The difference is enthusiasm and groundswell. It’s one thing to have a mob online that will sit behind a keyboard and throw their support behind a candidate, and it’s another to get up to go stand in line with thousands of other people for hours on end to see a guy speak for a bit. People are doing that for Trump, but no one is doing that for Democrats.

This might change as the Democrat’s field of candidates is whittled down, but even with a single candidate opposing Trump, it’s hard to see how the enthusiasm for the left’s candidate will match that of Trump’s. As Rush Limbaugh pointed out, it’s not just crowd size, it’s the fact that Trump is also garnering more donations than any other Democrat candidate.

Klobuchar and Democrats pretending that they’re doing just as well isn’t going to change the fact that they’re not. It’s just one more fantasy they chose to add to their ever-expanding fantasy world.

Even if Klobuchar isn’t telling lies for her sake but for yours, then this is proof that Democrats think you’re stupid enough to believe them. Given, the rabid defense of everything Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says has given them a proper reason to think that, but regardless, heads buried in the sand don’t win elections.

When even Cuomo recognizes this, maybe it’s time to get real.

As Red State‘s Bonchie wrote yesterday, Joe Biden landed himself in hot water with fellow Democrats on Wednesday. The 2020 presidential contender spoke earlier this week on being able to work with segregationist Senators in the interest of “civility” long ago to get things done.

What Biden didn’t mention is the fact that the Senators in question were segregationists – and Democrats.

A brief recap, via CNN:

During a fundraising event in New York, the Democratic presidential candidate recounted being a member of the Senate in the 1970s with southern Democrats who opposed civil rights and desegregation. He specifically named Mississippi Sen. James Eastland and Georgia Sen. Herman Talmadge, who Biden called “one of the meanest guys I ever knew.”

“I was in a caucus with James O. Eastland. He never called me ‘boy,’ he always called me ‘son,’ ” Biden told donors.

“Well guess what? At least there was some civility. We got things done,” Biden said. “We didn’t agree on much of anything. We got things done. We got it finished.”

“But today, you look at the other side and you’re the enemy. Not the opposition, the enemy. We don’t talk to each other anymore,” he said.

The two Senators he mentioned were not exactly politicians you wanted to be bragging about getting along with, as Bonchie noted in his post. In response to Biden’s comments, a number of other presidential candidates, including Sens. Cory Booker (NJ), Kamala Harris (CA), and Elizabeth Warren (MA) blasted the Democratic front-runner.

During an MSNBC segment on the controversy, anchor Kasie Hunt mislabeled the two Senators as Republicans:

MSNBC Host Kasie Hunt called segregationist Democrats “Republicans” on Wednesday when referencing Joe Biden’s remarks about civility with segregationists in the Senate.

“Still to come, Joe Biden references his relationships with two former Republican colleagues at an event in New York City. The only problem? They were both segregationists,” Hunt said, referring to Herman Talmadge and James Eastland, who were both Democratic senators.

[…]

Hunt did not correct her comments when she returned from the break.

Watch the segment below:

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) got wind of the news of Hunt’s flub, and took to the Twitter machine to provide a quick but necessary history lesson:

Hunt later issued a correction, but it was long after the segment was over:

Sure. Like 24 hours after the damage has been done. But okay.

MSNBC’s Chuck Todd Breaks With Media and Goes After AOC for “Concentration Camp” Comments, She Doesn’t Take It Well

MSNBC’s “Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd didn’t get the memo that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is to be treated as infallible at all times, and instead went after the New York democratic socialist with gusto on his program on Wednesday.

After AOC’s comparison to the holding areas at the border to concentration camps, many across the globe came down on her for her gross attempt to draw an equivalence. Todd made it clear that Ocasio-Cortez was doing a “disservice” to those who suffered in the Nazi concentration camps, and dismissed the lie that AOC wasn’t trying to compare them to Nazi death camps.

“She just did the people there a tremendous disservice,” Todd said. “Be careful comparing them to Nazi concentration camps because they’re not at all comparable in the slightest.”

“She tried to make a distinction between concentration camps and Nazi death camps,” Todd continued. “But Congresswoman, tens of thousands were also brutalized, starved, and ultimately died in those concentration camps.”

Todd also noted that people were afraid to call her out for her remarks for fear of being mobbed by Ocasio-Cortez’s rabid fan base, and the MSNBC host wondered allowed why people were so afraid of that.

“Some Democrats have been reluctant to condemn her remarks, they don’t want to get criticized on Twitter,” Todd added. “Why are we so sheepish calling out people we agree with politically these days?”

True to form, Ocasio-Cortez didn’t appreciate one of the leftists in the media breaking ranks and took to Twitter to punish Todd for daring to disagree with her.

“Well, [Chuck Todd] – the fact that you slipped in “Nazi” when I never said that is pretty unfortunate. Almost as unfortunate as the fact that you spent this whole time w/o discussing DHS freezers, “dog pounds,” missing children, & human rights abuses that uphold use of this term,” tweeted AOC.

Thing is, AOC did compare them to Nazi concentration camps by using the phrase “never again,” completely linking the Nazi death camps to what she claims is concentration camps happening at the border. The walk back came the moment the heat became overwhelming and was assisted by a media only too happy to run defense for someone they’re openly afraid of.

Todd did exactly the right thing by calling out a dumb comment for what it was. If anything, people on the left, especially in the media, should be following his example and putting their foot down on where we draw lines as far as professional political discourse.

While the trained seals that follow AOC blindly will nod and applaud if she spoke like Beaker from the Muppets, the rest of the world isn’t too impressed with the bombastic schtick she has going. In fact, it’s turning a lot of voters off if the voting public lining up to see Trump is any indication.

The Democrats go down a really dark road with following this kind of radical sensationalism, and they’re better off listening to Todd than AOC, if they have to listen to a leftist at all.

The 2016 election was an instructive point for many of those of us on the right. Where we’d labored for decades under the illusion that the “big tent” that included a very heterodox coalition that held at least one conservative belief was the beau ideal for the conservative movement we suddenly found that we were saddled with allies who were much more interested in gaining plaudits from the media and the left for “policing our own” than they were in actually winning elections and moving conservative principles forward. There were folks on the right who claimed that voting for Hillary Clinton was the best way to salvage conservatism. Many of these same people couldn’t be bothered to object to anything at all about Clinton but would fall on the floor and twitch and froth at the thought of Donald Trump in the Oval Office. What we discovered was that a lot of the people in the so-called big tent really didn’t care about advancing conservatism or rolling back the left, what they were in the tent for was to get their way. And when that didn’t happen, they were perfectly content to ally themselves with the left on matters from immigration to our relations with China to the Russia hoax and abandon what we’d been told were closely held principles simply to be visibly in opposition to President Trump and his administration. These people even aligned themselves with the Democrats to flip the House of Representatives, notwithstanding the fact that most of the victims of their duplicity were NeverTrump Republican representatives much like themselves, in order to cause as much grief as possible to the Trump Administration.

This election year, however, is actually making some of the worst of the Vichy Republicans look into the abyss and not like what they see. Yesterday the Twitter account “Reagan Battalion” sent this out. I don’t know or even have curiosity about who runs the account but it has been solidly in the “muh principles” gang in fluffing for Hillary Clinton, pushing every Russia hoax story imaginable, and generally denigrating actual conservatives who what to move the ball forward and are adult enough to realize you don’t always get your first choice in candidates.

https://mobile.twitter.com/ReaganBattalion/status/1141149002714570754

Their fan club was not happy and they suddenly went from NeverTrump opinion leaders to just another Trump sycophant:

https://mobile.twitter.com/ReaganBattalion/status/1141366420611244033

And the re-branding effort doesn’t seem to be going all that well:

https://mobile.twitter.com/ReaganBattalion/status/1141337418056065024

https://mobile.twitter.com/ReaganBattalion/status/1141370541732958208

Let’s not romanticize this conversion. The argument over Trump vs. socialism was on the table in the 2016 election. These people voted with socialism–only in 2016 the election wasn’t “binary” something that it apparently is today. The issue of Trump vs socialism has been on the table since January 21, 2017. While President Trump was trying to manage illegal immigration, enact pro-life policies, rein in the EPA and the regulatory Gestapo, limit the number of federal regulations being generated, reduce taxes, extricate us from wars without end or purpose, and unleash the wealth creating power of the American economy, these people were focused on his table manners, his tweets, and “Mueller Time.”

We’re going to see more of this as we head into 2020. The people who made their business model or raison d’être in pushing TDS are going to have to decide whether they are in politics to make a difference or for the cash. The top tier guys like Kristol and his cronies have already voted. They’d be perfectly happy with a President Harris and a Democrat senate because there is more money to be made in lecturing folks on how conservatism should be conserved than there is in taking on their liberal paymasters and actually fighting for conservative policies.

The real question is what do we, the people who’ve taken crap from these people as we tried to support policies that were pro-life, pro-religious freedom, and pro-American interests, do? Do we slaughter the fatted calf and welcome them home? Should we be gracious and understanding?

I think not. This movement is not one of people coming home. At best it is a belated recognition that the people they’d sucked up to really want to get rid of them as well as any other stripe of conservative (and one has to wonder why it took this long for them to figure this out). At worst it is a recognition that despite all the highly scientific polls showing Pete Buttigieg beating Trump in Florida an incumbent president is damned hard to beat, particularly when the economy is roaring and anyone who wants a job has one, and that this is a good time to segue from NeverTrump to “he’s yucky but he’s better than the other guy.” We can collaborate with them. We can work towards the common goal of re-electing President Trump and flipping the House. But we must never lose sight of the fact that they are not friends nor allies. They are like the Italians in 1943. Their old master is failing and they see opportunity for survival in attaching themselves to a new cause which looks more successful. They are perhaps useful, it is certainly better to have them as nominal allies rather than fighting them, but make no mistake about it, they are not to be trusted again. Ever.

Rush Limbaugh Has a Nasty Reality Check for Joe Biden

Westlake Legal Group Rush-Limbaugh-Ditto-Cam-620x325 Rush Limbaugh Has a Nasty Reality Check for Joe Biden republicans rallies polls Politics Joe Biden Front Page Stories Featured Story elections donald trump democrats Campaigns Allow Media Exception 2020 Elections 2020

The size of the crowds President Donald Trump draws in can’t be ignored. The guy packs stadiums that result in overflow crowds that number in the thousands.

Rush Limbaugh couldn’t help but notice this as well as he watched the events unfold for Donald Trump’s campaign stop in Orlando, Florida. Thousands had come to see the President speak, and waited for hours beforehand to do so, making it look like the launch of a new iPhone back in Apple’s heyday.

According to the Daily Wire’s James Barrett, Limbaugh senses bad weather on the horizon for Democrat primary shoo-in Joe Biden, the man Democrats have likely decided to take on Trump:

“Imagine if you’re Joe Biden last night,” said Rush (transcript via RushLimbaugh.com). “You’re Joe Biden last night, and your advisers come in, and they say, ‘Joe, don’t sweat it, don’t sweat anything that happened last night. What happened last night doesn’t mean anything, Joe. The debates are the only thing that matter, Joe, and you’re gonna wipe the floor with this guy, Joe. You’re gonna wipe the floor about him in the debates, and you got the big money behind you, Joe. You got fundraisers, you’re setting records all over. Joe, don’t sweat this stuff last night.’”

But then came a tweet from Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel early Wednesday morning: “Donald Trump has raised a record-breaking $24.8 million in less than 24 hours for his reelection,” she announced. “The enthusiasm across the country for this president is unmatched, unlike anything we have ever seen.”

That’s no small amount of cash. Not to mention the fact that it puts to shame other fundraising efforts by Democrats. Bernie Sanders raised $18 million by comparison.

Poll after poll indicates that Biden does have the edge over Trump, but as I discussed on Wednesday, we’ve seen this before in 2016. Hillary Clinton was set to slam Trump in almost every poll, but his packed rallies were telling a different story.

The Daily Wire also notes that other polls are giving us a different view of the landscape, which Limbaugh cites:

The Firehouse-Optimus poll, conducted from June 11-13, shows Trump with a tremendous surge in Pennsylvania; Biden had an eight-point lead in March that has narrowed to a scant one-point lead. The Trump “base” in Pennsylvania has a huge lead over the Democratic “base.” Trump’s stands at 42%, dwarfing the Democrats’, which is at 24%. … Since March, Biden’s lead over Trump in Wisconsin has shrunk from 12 percentage points to six. The Trump “base” in Wisconsin, according to the poll, rests at 37%; the Democratic “base” stands at 32%. Trump’s approval rating has risen from 41% to 44% since March. In Michigan, where the Trump “base” is 39% and the Democratic base rests at 32%, Trump and Biden were tied in March; Biden now holds a slim three-point lead, leaving them in a statistical dead heat.

At this point, many of the polls touting the strength of Biden’s voting public coming into 2020 is, in a word, unreliable.

Even Chris Cuomo couldn’t help but note that Democrats aren’t packing stadiums like Trump is, and went so far as to ask Democratic presidential candidate Amy Klobuchar why that is. Klobuchar tried to say that Democrats were packing stadiums like Trump, however, this is a bold lie.

Limbaugh is correct in his assessment. All the roads point to failure for Biden at this juncture, and many had that forecast going in.

Top economists predicted Trump’s victory in 2020 back in March due to the fact that when an economy is strong, it’s hard to dislodge a sitting president from office.

“The economy is just so damn strong right now and by all historic precedent the incumbent should run away with it,” said Donald Luskin, chief investment officer of TrendMacrolytics.

“Even if you have a mediocre but not great economy — and that’s more or less consensus for between now and the election — that has a Trump victory and by a not-trivial margin,” said Yale economist Ray Fair.

“If the election were held today, Trump would win according to the models and pretty handily,” said Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody’s Analytics and regular Trump critic. “In three or four of them it would be pretty close. He’s got low gas prices, low unemployment and a lot of other political variables at his back. The only exception is his popularity, which matters a lot. If that falls off a cliff it would make a big difference.”

Biden actually winning would take nothing short of a miracle at this point. While it’s not smart to discount the GOP’s talent for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, Trump’s popularity mixed with his dominance of the economy is essentially his golden ticket to four more years.

China Is Killing Prisoners to Harvest Their Organs

Our relationship with China has always puzzled me, specifically in how many politicians handle it. I understand we like the cheap stuff and rare earth materials, but it’s just jarring to see some Democrats and “free traders” talk about the evils of Chinese oppression one minute and then act like the world is going to end without cheap TVs the next.

In the “let’s remember why China is a dumpster fire” file, here’s an update on their human rights abuses.

On June 17, an independent tribunal which has been investigating “forced organ harvesting” from Chinese prisoners, including Falun Gong practitioners and Uighur Muslims, published its final judgment.

The China Tribunal concluded that “forced organ harvesting has been committed for years throughout China on a significant scale, [and] the tribunal has had no evidence that the significant infrastructure associated with China’s transplantation industry has been dismantled and absent a satisfactory explanation as to the source of readily available organs concludes that forced organ harvesting continues till today.”

It sounds like something out of a horror movie, but it’s real. We’ve already had ample evidence this happening for a while but this determination puts an official stamp on it.

For those thinking they are just taking organs from people who were executed for unrelated reasons, it actually goes much further.

Some of the organ extractions were said to have been conducted on live victims who were killed during their procedures.

China is also apparently targeting certain minority groups for organ harvesting, pointing to a dual purpose behind the scheme. They get the organs and they also get to keep wiping out groups they see as problematic and inferior.

The tribunal found that “the Commission of Crimes Against Humanity against the Falun Gong and Uyghurs has been proved beyond a reasonable doubt,” with the “torture of Falun Gong and Uyghurs” in addition to “forced organ harvesting,” but stopped short of concluding that genocide had taken place. The tribunal left that open for further investigation: “There can be no doubt that there is a duty on those who have the power to institute investigations for, and proceedings at, international courts or at the UN to test whether Genocide has been committed.”

The problems with China go far beyond just their totalitarian government. Thousands of years of conditioning have also led to a people that will fiercely defend anything the nation does, no matter how horrific.

It seems to me that Americans are going to have to make a choice eventually. Do we want to keep helping build the economy and military of a dangerous, genocidal state with international ambitions? Or can we handle paying a little more for our phones? This is the argument Trump should be making in regards to China. Not that tariffs are good in a vacuum, but that it’s a national security and moral imperative that we stop feeding the beast.

I suspect the status quo will remain though.

In a new sign of the escalating tensions in the region, Fox News has reported that a U.S. high-altitude drone was shot down early Thursday by an Iranian surface-to-air missile over the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran’s state-run news agency, IRNA, reported that the drone had flown into “its airspace in southern Iran’s Hormozgan province. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard (IRG) confirmed the shooting.” According to the news agency, an IRG commander said it sends “‘a clear message’ to the U.S. and while Iran has no intention of war with anyone, it’s ‘ready for war.’” We would expect nothing less from the IRG, which the U.S. has designated as a foreign terrorist organization.

Fox reports:

The U.S. Navy’s MQ-4C drone, which has the same wingspan as a Boeing 737, was over international airspace at the time and about 17 miles from Iran, the source said.

Capt. Bill Urban, a U.S. Central Command spokesman, declined to comment on the reported attack when reached by the AP, but he said no drone was over Iranian territory.

The U.S. said Iran fired a missile at another drone last week that responded to the attack on two oil tankers near the Gulf.

Another senior U.S. official told Fox News last week that an MQ9 Reaper drone was fired on by the Iranians shortly after it arrived at the scene where the MV Altair tanker sent out a distress signal.

This incident follows hard on the heels of last week’s attack on two oil tankers, one Norwegian-owned and the other Japanese-owned, in the Gulf of Oman. U.S. intelligence sources believe that Iran was responsible for that attack. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo based his assessment on “intelligence, the weapons used, the level of expertise needed to execute the operation, recent similar Iranian attacks on shipping, and the fact that no proxy group operating in the area has the resources and proficiency to act with such a high degree of sophistication.”

It’s unclear what the U.S. response to this latest provocation will be. President Trump characterized last week’s tanker attacks as “very minor.”

Iran has denied responsibility even though the U.S. released video footage showing a Iranian military boat pulling up to the Japanese tanker, then removing an object (believed to be a mine) from the hull.

European leaders have been reluctant to place blame on Iran for the attacks. A spokesperson for the EU said Tuesday that there was insufficient evidence to blame Iran.

Surprisingly, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who is not exactly one of Trump’s greatest fans, spoke at a press conference in Berlin on Tuesday. She said: “We take these acts very seriously, there is strong evidence” [that Iran carried out attacks on two tankers in the Gulf of Oman.] She also warned Iran of consequences if it violated the 2015 international nuclear deal. She added that Germany would tell all sides and especially Iran, “that the situation should not escalate.”

Now that it has indeed escalated, what, if any, action will be taken?

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) appeared on Fox News “Special Report” on Wednesday (prior to news of the drone attack) and https://www.foxnews.com/politics/lindsey-graham-iran-shipping-navy-oil-refineries, “If Iran attacks shipping again, US should consider taking out their Navy, oil refineries.”

Stay tuned.
