Flyers Stating “Islam Is Right About Women” Cause Media to Have a Narrative Crisis

Westlake Legal Group Screen-Shot-2019-09-20-at-1.24.38-PM-620x333 Flyers Stating “Islam Is Right About Women” Cause Media to Have a Narrative Crisis Women Media Massachusetts Islam Internet Front Page Stories Feminism Featured Story

You think you can dance? Watch this.

Islam isn’t particularly known for its fairness to women. In fact, it’s well known to be a society that treats them a second class and below, forbidding them to learn basic things such as reading and math. They’re used more like servants and breeding stock in many Islam dominated countries and are punished severely for violating any of the strict Sharia laws set for them.

This is a fact that is typically overlooked by a lot of the left, especially feminists. When it comes to Islam’s treatment of women, you’ll find many a blind eye among the social justice warriors who often go so far as to defend Islam as the “religion of peace” the left claims it is.

So when flyers began going up around Winchester, Massachusetts, that stated “Islam is right about women,” the outrage was present, but nobody wanted to say why.

According to WHDH-TV a woman discovered the flyers around the town and became “fearful.” She immediately took them down where she found them and alerted police, who then found five more around the town. Most interestingly is how the report was framed:

Anita Davison told 7NEWS that she was walking her child to school on Wednesday when saw the concerning flyers struck to street signs near the town’s center.

Davison says she was alarmed by the sight of the flyers and immediately ripped them down.

“Political climate at the moment, and all the things happening around the world, it just puts a little fear in you,” she said.

After Davison brought two flyers to the Winchester Police Department, officers went out and found eight more, including one that was posted outside of an elementary school.

Some residents say they think the signs refer to strict laws applied to women.

“Some residents say they think,” says the report.

The police of Winchester even called the flyers “not of a threatening nature,” which, if you’re a woman, would likely be a statement you’d disagree with. I also found it interesting that the station decided to include that little factoid.

The entire reason this is a story in the first place is that everyone knows exactly what the message entails and that the fear it inspires in women is legitimate. Even so, the media doesn’t want to go into these strict laws or where they originate from despite the subject being right in the flyer they’re reporting on.

It’s unclear if an Islamic faithful posted these, or if it’s a clever attempt at someone forcing people to face an inconvenient reality. Either way, the conversation is worth having.

What’s more, it’s worth honestly reporting about.

Watch: Anti-Trump Veterans Group Says Dan Crenshaw “Hid” From Their Questions, but Video Tells Different Story

Rep. Dan Crenshaw, R-Texas, left, listens as Office of Management and Budget Acting Director Russell Vought testifies before the House Budget Committee on Capitol Hill in Washington, Tuesday, March 12, 2019, during a hearing on the fiscal year 2020 budget. (AP Photo/Susan Walsh)

An anti-Trump veterans group called “Common Defense” posted video to their Twitter account Thursday of two men described as combat veterans aggressively following Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) to an elevator while questioning his support for President Trump.

The group, which bills itself as “the country’s only veteran-led grassroots organization committed to engaging, training and mobilizing veterans to elect accountable leaders and promote progressive values in 2020 and beyond”, is in favor of impeaching the President. Crenshaw, a wounded war veteran who served multiple tours in Afghanistan, is not.

In a teaser they published along with the video, the group states “GOP Rep @DanCrenshawTX hid in an elevator today when combat vets confronted him about his support for Donald Trump.” Watch the 2+ minute video below:

“[We have confirmed] the identities of the men as U.S. Army veterans Jason Hurd, 40, and Alan Pitts, 36, a Purple Heart recipient,” Newsweek reported.

It’s not my place to get in the middle of a “veteran vs. veteran” battle, but this video angered me for a number of reasons:

1) Crenshaw did not “hide” from anyone. The video clearly shows attempts by Crenshaw, who maintained his composure, to engage in conversation within 20 seconds of the encounter starting.

Once they made it to the elevator, Crenshaw pointed out it was a “members only” elevator. There’s a reason it’s stipulated that way for members of Congress and their staff that pretty much everyone should understand (safety and security, hello?). It had nothing to do with “hiding.”

2) As Crenshaw pointed out, they were there to make a video, not to have a dialogue. This was to promote their group, not to have a substantive back and forth. Crenshaw tried a number of times to respond to what was being said but the guy stalking him just continued to talk over him, actually questioning his commitment to his country.

3) At one point, the guy on Crenshaw’s heels says “you need to get your courage back, man.” He said this to a Navy SEAL who lost his eye in combat, and who then decided to continue to serve his country once he came home by running for Congress. I don’t think he needs a lecture on courage from anyone.

I asked people on my Twitter feed to give me their takes on what happened, and was especially interested in takes from military veterans. Here are some of the responses:

(Duke confirmed with me that he actually meant to say Crenshaw “would not owe political allegiance” to combat veterans even if he wasn’t one himself.)

Sadly, instead of doing actual journalism on this story, Newsweek decided to write about it using the very same biased take Common Defense gave:

Apologies for the typos in that last tweet. By that point I was really annoyed, not just with how Common Defense had falsely portrayed what happened, but with Newsweek treating the group’s spin as the gospel truth.

This is clearly a case of a blockbuster story not coming anywhere close to living up to the hype. The actual footage shows a far different story than how both Common Defense and Newsweek spun it. In reality, Crenshaw handled what happened in a much classier way than how others in a similar position would have.

Stop The Tape! How Has Joe Biden’s Scandal Suddenly Become President Trump’s Scandal?

Westlake Legal Group biden_obama Stop The Tape! How Has Joe Biden’s Scandal Suddenly Become President Trump’s Scandal? Ukrainian Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky the washington post Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin President Trump Michael Atkinson Mainstream Media Liberal Elitism Joe Biden hunter biden Front Page Stories Foreign Policy Featured Story donald trump democrats corruption Congress Allow Media Exception Abuse of Power 2020

Like sharks who’ve discovered fresh chum, members of the mainstream media have worked themselves into a frenzy over a Washington Post article about a whistleblower’s complaint to the Intelligence Community’s Inspector General, Michael Atkinson. The whistleblower was “alarmed” over a promise President Trump had made to a foreign leader during a phone call. Atkinson submitted the complaint to the acting DNI Chief who has refused to notify Congress. Atkinson then took it upon himself to notify Congress. Hence, the firestorm. I posted on the details and the sequence of events here on Thursday.

Overnight, some of the blanks have been filled in. According to The Washington Post, the whistleblower’s complaint allegedly involved a July 25th phone call between President Trump and the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.          .

The Post obtained the Ukrainian government’s “readout” of that call which said Trump was “convinced the new Ukrainian government will be able to quickly improve [the] image of Ukraine, [and] complete [the] investigation of corruption cases, which inhibited the interaction between Ukraine and the USA.”

The Post strongly suggests that Trump asked Zelensky to investigate Biden (to help Trump defeat him) and, in return, he would release $250 million in aid to the country. In other words, the media is calling this extortion.

Both Joe Biden and his son, Hunter, have some serious questions of their own to answer when it comes to Ukraine. In February 2014, Biden became the Obama administration’s “point man” on Ukraine. Within months, Hunter’s business, Rosemont Seneca Partners LLC, was receiving large monthly deposits from Burisma Holdings, a Ukrainian energy company. These payments began in the spring of 2014 and continued through the fall of 2015. According to writer Peter Schweitzer, both Hunter and his business partner were named to Burisma’s board in the spring of 2014 as well. Hunter was tasked with overseeing Burisma’s legal team.

While speaking to a group of foreign policy strategists, Biden boasted about threatening to hold back $1 billion in U.S. aid if Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko did not fire Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin, who was about to question Hunter. Biden told the group:

I said, ‘You’re not getting the billion.’ I’m going to be leaving here in, I think it was about six hours. I looked at them and said: ‘I’m leaving in six hours. If the prosecutor is not fired, you’re not getting the money.’

Well, son of a bitch, he got fired. And they put in place someone who was solid at the time.

The Hill’s John Solomon reported in April that rather than pressuring Poroshenko for six hours, Biden had been pressuring him for “several months in late 2015 and early 2016.

Shokin’s probe was composed of three separate cases. Solomon interviewed the current Ukrainian Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko in March 2019 which I wrote about here. Lutsenko confirmed that after Shokin was fired, the primary case was “transferred to a different Ukrainian agency, closely aligned with the U.S. Embassy in Kiev, known as the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU).” You may recall that many Embassy officials, and their actions as well, were pro-Hillary Clinton.

It should come as no surprise that NABU closed the case. Solomon reported:

A second case involving alleged improper money transfers in London was dropped when Ukrainian officials failed to file the necessary documents by the required deadline. The general prosecutor’s office successfully secured a multimillion-dollar judgment in a tax evasion case, Lutsenko said. He did not say who was the actual defendant in that case.

So, for a period of time, it looked like the Bidens had escaped scrutiny.

Unfortunately for Biden, Lutsenko started a review of the case NABU had closed.

Lutsenko told Solomon that he “discovered members of the Board obtained funds as well as another U.S.-based legal entity, Rosemont Seneca Partners LLC, for consulting services.”

He also said he would like to show some of the evidence to US Attorney General William Barr, “particularly the vice president’s intervention.” He added, “Unfortunately, Mr. Biden had correlated and connected this aid with some of the HR (personnel) issues and changes in the prosecutor’s office.”

Solomon spoke to the lead prosecutor in Lutsenko’s office who confirmed that this portion of the Burma investigation was reopened following Biden’s speech, but explained that a separate agency has been slow in working on the case and told Solomon, “We don’t see any result from this case one year after the reopening because of some external influence.”
(The US Embassy in Kiev and several agencies associated with it were in cahoots with the DNC.) The Ukrainian government is known for being especially corrupt. However, Solomon explains:

But what makes Lutsenko’s account compelling is that federal authorities in America, in an entirely different case, uncovered financial records showing just how much Hunter Biden’s and Archer’s company received from Burisma while Joe Biden acted as Obama’s point man on Ukraine.

Between April 2014 and October 2015, more than $3 million was paid out of Burisma accounts to an account linked to Biden’s and Archer’s Rosemont Seneca firm, according to the financial records placed in a federal court file in Manhattan in an unrelated case against Archer.

The bank records show that, on most months when Burisma money flowed, two wire transfers of $83,333.33 each were sent to the Rosemont Seneca–connected account on the same day. The same Rosemont Seneca–linked account typically then would pay Hunter Biden one or more payments ranging from $5,000 to $25,000 each. Prosecutors reviewed internal company documents and wanted to interview Hunter Biden and [his business partner Devon] Archer about why they had received such payments, according to interviews.

Lutsenko said Ukrainian company board members legally can pay themselves for work they do if it benefits the company’s bottom line, but prosecutors never got to determine the merits of the payments to Rosemont because of the way the investigation was shut down.

Although it’s too soon to accuse Hunter Biden of financial wrongdoing, it is entirely appropriate to question him. What work did he and Archer perform for the money they received from Burisma?

And it is also reasonable to ask questions of Joe Biden starting with why did he try to get Shokin fired while he was investigating Burisma? Does he think it was appropriate for Hunter and his firm to cash in on Ukraine while he served as point man for Ukraine policy? Did Biden know about the Burisma probe? (Of course he did.) And does he believe it was ethical of him to use his position to have the prosecutor fired?

Rather than allowing Democrats to attack President Trump and the acting DNI Chief, who are all acting within their constitutional authority, let’s look at the real Ukrainian scandal. At the very least, Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden acted unethically. At worst, Biden acted corruptly and Hunter may have violated the law.

Running out of reasons to investigate Trump, Democrats are trying to turn this complaint from an Obama administration holdover into a second Russia collusion case. They must be stopped.

If they’re not sure how to do that, Corey Lewandowski will be happy to show them how it’s done.

___________________________________________________________________________________

Note: There is another ongoing Ukrainian investigation underway. Back in March, Lutsenko announced a new investigation into an alleged attempt by Ukrainian officials to interfere in the 2016 U.S. Presidential election. The plan involved the leaking of the “black ledger files,” which contained incriminating information about payments to Paul Manafort, to the U.S. media. This would have been done to help Hillary Clinton win the election.

It is well-known that the DNC and many pro-Hillary Clinton staffers inside the American Embassy were in cahoots. However, this is way beyond the scope of this post.

Report: SNL Hired the Recently Fired Racist Comedian to Appeal to Conservatives

Westlake Legal Group SNLskit-620x303 Report: SNL Hired the Recently Fired Racist Comedian to Appeal to Conservatives Variety snl shane gillis Saturday Night Live Sarah Silverman racism Media Front Page Stories Featured Story comedy Amy Schumer

The controversy behind Shane Gillis, the comedian hired and then subsequently fired comedian has made the rounds around the internet, but in case you missed it, my colleague Alex Parker detailed how Gillis lost his job thanks to cancel culture once it was revealed he had said “racist” things during a podcast.

(READ: Norm Macdonald Responds To New Comedian Shane Gillis’s ‘SNL’ Firing: ‘This Means WAR’)

Now, according to an article in Variety, the claim has been made that Gillis was hired on in the first place in order to appeal to conservatives which had largely abandoned SNL thanks to its hard-left leaning stance:

According to sources, the long-running NBC comedy show and series mastermind Lorne Michaels were actively looking to cast a comedian for its new season who would appeal to more conservative viewers. This was meant to counteract the appearance of a liberal bias on the show, given that it has seen a major resurgence in popularity in recent years with Alec Baldwin regularly portraying President Donald Trump while other cast members and guest stars have played members of his administration and those in his orbit.

It should be noted that Variety does not list who these “sources” are and, as such, this story may be a false rumor altogether. However, given that a poll in March found that 61 percent of Americans don’t watch SNL, it’s probably true that Michaels is looking to attract more viewers.

Given the left’s view of the right, it wouldn’t be too far out of the realm of possibility to assume that they believe bringing someone on who has made racist remarks in the past would make right-wingers come back. Whether or not Gillis’s words were actually racist, or an observation about racist people can be made, but the point is that SNL brass thought it racist, and looked to appeal to conservatives by bringing someone on who would use this kind of edgy language.

If the story is true and that is the case, then the left has no idea what a typical conservative believes or values.

Interestingly enough, edgy humor seems to be fine with the left so long as it appeals to the left. Any slip-ups can easily be forgiven if they vote the right way. Sarah Silverman can do blackface and still have a career. While she did lose a role in a film over it, she continues to get work.

Amy Schumer also told a racist joke about how Hispanic men are rapists and yet, continues to enjoy a steady stream of success.

Perhaps Gillis will recover from this and get work, however, I wouldn’t get my hopes up.

Watch: Al Sharpton and Dem Lawmakers Lose It As Republican Confronts Sharpton With His Own Racism

There are figures that leftists revere, and Al Sharpton is one of those figures. The man styling himself as “reverend” has been around for years thanks to making racism against black people and social justice a central issue. As such, he is often protected.

Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida doesn’t care about all that, and while at a House Judiciary Committee hearing about policing practices where Sharpton was considered an “expert,” Gaetz confronted Sharpton with statements he had made in the past about other races in an attempt to make it clear that Sharpton is not the best guy to take advice from.

Gaetz began by having Sharpton answer for a resolution submitted by then Rep. Joe Scarborough (now Sharpton’s fellow MSNBC host) back in 2000, which was made for “Condemning the racist and anti-Semitic views of the Reverend Al Sharpton.”

“Mr. Scarborough’s resolution began by saying, ‘Whereas the Reverend Al Sharpton has referred to members of the Jewish faith as “bloodsucking [J]ews”, and “Jew bastards”,’” Gaetz said. “My question to you is, does Mr. Scarborough’s assertion that you said these things, is that true or did you not say those things?”

Sharpton denied ever having said these things, calling them “patently untrue.” From here, Gaetz and Sharpton devolved into trying to talk over each other as Gaetz attempted to push more questions about things Sharpton had said, and Sharpton defending himself while attempting to run out the clock.

Eventually, Committee Chair Jerry Nadler (D-NY) and immediately took Sharpton’s side, banging his gavel and saying that Sharpton should get all the time he needs to defend himself since “aspersions” were cast on him.

“No, I’m sorry, Mr. Chairman, aspersions weren’t cast,” replied Gaetz, noting that he’s only asking if Scarborough’s allegations were true.

This only caused Nadler to bang his gavel harder, and let Sharpton continue.

Regardless, the back and forth continued with Sharpton either denying or making excuses for, racist things he said or did in the past. He was ultimately successful in running out the clock on Gaetz, but Rep. Jim Jordan yielded his time to Gaetz when it was his turn.

As Gaetz continued his inquiries, Democrats became upset. Both Texas Democrat Sheila Jackson Lee and Nadler called Gaetz’s questioning “obnoxious,” which Gaetz objected to. Nadler continued by saying that “unfortunately” the rules of congress allow Gaetz to ask these questions.

Gaetz made his point, however.

“Reverend Sharpton has come before the House Judiciary Committee as a purported expert on policing. Yet his bigoted statements undermine the bipartisan work we should be doing to ensure that all citizens are able to come together and have safe communities.”

While Sharpton had a solid excuse for some of the things that he had said or done, the majority of his past comments were indeed racist and bigoted. While Democrats continue to sell themselves as the party of anti-racism, they continue to hold up figures like Sharpton who have no business representing anti-racist peoples.

What’s more, the fact that Democrats were so adamant to defend Sharpton only makes them look all the worse.

A New York Judge Loses His Seat Over an Incendiary Endorsement of the Death Penalty. Is This Justice?

First things first: In case you missed it, please read:

Think You’ve Heard The Stupidest Thing Ever? I Disagree. Witness The Woke’s New Condemnation Of IKEA

Going forward:

In New York, a judge recently expressed favor toward old-fashioned capital punishment, along with what appeared to be an ‘attaboy for Trump.

Altona Town Court Justice Kyle R. Canning posted to social media an image of a noose with the following caption:

“IF WE WANT TO MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN WE WILL HAVE TO MAKE EVIL PEOPLE FEAR PUNISHMENT AGAIN.”

See the image via this link.

Of course, public hangings used to be the method of choice when death penalty cases were taken to their furthest corporal end.

But contemporary society seems to have an ever-shorter memory, and the rope was interpreted by some as a murderous message about black people.

A formal complaint was filed by the New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct, claiming Kyle seemed to “convey racial and/or political bias” and “failed to act in a manner that promotes public confidence in the integrity and impartiality of the judiciary.”

Commission administrator Robert H. Tembeckjian accused Kyle of using “the image of the noose in making a political point.”

In an issued statement, Robert reamed Kyle:

“The noose is an incendiary image with repugnant racial connotations. It is the very antithesis of law and justice.”

But Kyle told The New York Times he had no intention of anything racial.

Furthermore, he’s a registered Democrat:

“There is not a man that I could despise more than Donald Trump.”

That statement definitely wouldn’t have gotten him in trouble.

Kyle explained that he was just touting the effectiveness of the death penalty:

“It could have been a gas chamber. It could have been an electric chair.”

Should his posting have brought the scourge of his industry? Was it just that he be censured? What’s more important — his intent or its perception?

Of course, he has a point — despite the evident impression of some in this racially charged climate, hanging was long ago the standard ultimate criminal punishment for all races in America, just as slavery existed all over the world among various races before America undertook its shamefulness.

But the moment’s what matters, and Kyle’s depiction of a noose means he won’t ever have to deal with a hung jury. On Tuesday, he resigned from his position and promised to never again hold judicial office.

He’d only just last year took the $8,700-a-year position.

In his letter of resignation, of the commission’s filing against him, Kyle explained, “They have presented me with several different options in resolving what they claim to be a serious offense.”

Despite a loss of almost ten grand, Kyle’s still rolling in the dough. According to the Times, he delivers bread for a living.

Trump’s Approval Rating Continues to Rise Despite Record Democrat Resistance

(AP Photo/Andrew Harnik)

They’re huffing and puffing, but President Donald Trump’s approval rating continues to rise according to a new poll.

The Hill reported on Friday that a Gallup poll showed Trump’s approval rating has gone up another four points as the partisan gap continues to widen between Republicans and Democrats:

The president’s approval rating now stands at 43 percent, compared to 39 percent in August, according to the polling giant.

Gallup also noted that the 86-point gap between Republicans and Democrats in the new poll tied a record. An overwhelming 91 percent of Republicans now approve of Trump’s performance, compared to just 5 percent of Democrats. More than one-third of independents — 38 percent — approve of the job he is doing.

Gallup said the 86-point difference has been measured three times during Trump’s presidency and once during the term of his predecessor.

To be clear, Trump is only the third president to get this high of a partisan gap, with former Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush getting above 80 percent. Trump hasn’t broken a record yet, as Obama has also had an 86 percent gap, but as Democrats continue to buckle down on being anti-Trump first, this may yet rise.

The Hill suggests that this rise in approval comes around the same time as Trump’s firing of former Defense Secretary John Bolton. This could give one the theory that Republicans are more anti-war now than they’ve ever been.

As we roll into 2020, Trump’s rising approval rating is going to become a massive problem for the Democrats who are currently busy with infighting. Figures such as Robert “Beto” O’Rourke are taking extreme positions on the losing topic of gun control, forcing Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to feign the position of the Democrat party that they don’t want to take anyone’s guns.

So all the momentum seems to be with Trump right now. There’s still a lot of political football left to play before the general elections, but as it stands, the Democrats seem to be leaving a bad taste in the mouths of Americans who prefer a moderate Democrat party to the radical one that it’s become.

If the Left continues with anti-Trump reactionism instead of actually focusing on what’s beneficial for Americans, you may continue to see this approval rating continue to rise.

Beto O’Rourke Becomes the Republicans’ MVP as He Divides the Democrat Party Against Itself

The fashionable thing to do in the Democrat party right now is to take an extreme position. They think it worked to energize Republicans and that if they do what they think President Donald Trump is doing, they’ll win. The problem is that Trump is nowhere near “extreme,” and is simply enforcing rules on the books and is being pro-American.

So Democrats like Robert “Beto” O’Rourke go out and say that he’s going to take your guns, thinking it will energize the left. Really, it’s only divided it. It started out as a trickle, with Democratic Sen. Christopher Coons of Deleware noting that O’Rourke’s gun-grab threat would haunt the Democrats for years.

(READ: Even Democrat Lawmakers Wish O’Rourke Hadn’t Said He’d Take Our Guns)

Now, this division has reached Democrat leadership, with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer saying publicly that he doesn’t think any other Democrat agrees with O’Rourke’s overly bold stance. It’s an obvious lie being used to attempt damage control for the Democrat party, and it’s interesting that Schumer is willing to tell that lie, but more on that in a second.

According to Politico, O’Rourke fired back by essentially accusing Schumer of being a do-nothing politician when it comes to gun violence:

“Ask Chuck Schumer what he’s been able to get done,” the Democratic presidential candidate told reporters after a town hall here, responding to Schumer’s recent dismissal of O’Rourke’s call for a mandatory buyback of assault weapons. “We still don’t have background checks. Didn’t have them when he was in the majority, either. So the game that he’s played, the politics that he’s pursued have given us absolutely nothing and have produced a situation where we lose nearly 40,000 of our fellow Americans every year.”

We’re swiftly marching into 2020, and as of right now, the Democrat party is in crisis with its 2020 candidates doing everything they can to appease the radical trend that has taken it over as Democrat leadership attempts to keep the party as centered as it possibly can.

It’s a war that is going to keep the left busy as the right continues to sail right through the election period with little to no difficulty. The great thing about O’Rourke’s comments is that, as Coons suggested, it will haunt Democrats going forward, specifically into 2020. O’Rourke essentially gave Democrats another problem to deal with, and so long as he’s is in the race, he’ll continue to make more problems for Democrats to deal with when it comes to gun control.

What’s more, it’s putting Democrat leadership in the position to tell demonstrable lies, and lies that will get other Democrats who do support that measure of gun control to turn on Democrat leadership.

So long as O’Rourke is around, the Democrats will continue to be forced to fight one another, and continue to give Republicans more momentum. It’s a house divided that will fall in 2020.

If I didn’t know any better, I’d say O’Rourke is a Republican plant.

As an aside, Hot Air’s Ed Morrissey mentioned in his article that O’Rourke’s “40,000” remark dismisses details such as suicides and have little to do with the weapons he’s wanting to be confiscated:

Furthermore, the 40K figure is all deaths from firearms including suicides, not the number of deaths each year from the weapons Beto wants confiscated — so-called “assault weapons.” As noted ad nauseam, long-barrel firearms (of which “assault weapons” is a subset) represent a minute percentage of overall firearms homicides — fewer than 4% in 2017. The actual number in 2017 was 403 homicides by rifles of all kinds, roughly 1% of the figure Beto’s tossing around. (Needless to say, assault weapons get used in few if any suicides, either.)

I don’t remember seeing this happen before, but it did on Thursday night — Tucker Carlson apologized to his audience for what he considered to be the unacceptable ridiculousness of his guest.

Tucker welcomed to the show former Bill Clinton pollster Bernard Whitman to discuss gun violence in cities such as Baltimore and Chicago.

Tucker asked Bernard:

“Why are the places with gun bans, Chicago and Baltimore, for example, so much more dangerous than places where so-called assault weapons are common like Vermont or New Hampshire?”

Bernard credits surrounding states and their lax gun laws:

“You have to look at where the guns are coming from. In Chicago, 60% of the firearms that Chicago police seize are coming from states like Indiana, with very weak gun laws. In New York City and New York state, 74% of the guns seized are coming from states with weak gun laws. In New York City alone, nine out of 10 guns purchased and used quickly come from states with lax gun control laws.”

That’s right in line with Chicago’s Democratic mayor, Lori Lightfoot. As I covered on September 3rd, she blames the Windy City’s problems on Republicans (here):

“60% of illegal firearms recovered in Chicago come from outside IL — mostly from states dominated by coward Republicans like you who refuse to enact commonsense gun legislation. Keep our name out of your mouth.”

But Tucker had a really great question for Bernard that should maybe be posed to Lori as well:

“[I] have never understood why, if all the guns in Chicago come from Indiana, then why doesn’t Indiana have a similar murder rate?”

Bernard’s answer? Because those states are losin’ all their dadburn guns to Chicago and NYC!

The dude thought he had a real cool comeback:

“Because the guns are leaving. The guns are being shipped to metropolises. … You just made a great argument for federal gun control. That’s exactly why we need federal gun control.”

Tucker:

“We already have federal laws against trans–“

“We have federal loopholes,” Bernard interjected.

Tucker said nope:

“There are no loopholes. Actually, I know a lot about this subject, and there are…the guns moving from Indiana to Chicago are moving by car. … That’s against the law, and the feds don’t do anything about it. It’s not a loophole, it’s unenforced. But you’re not answering my question. There are a lot of guns in Indiana, there are a lot of guns in Vermont, there are a lot of guns in Maine.”

Bernard suggested it’s all about the crowd:

“There’s a lot more people in Chicago, there’s a lot more people in New York City. That’s why the guns go to where the people are. That’s the principle of supply and demand.”

Tucker came back with, “Oh, it’s just population density? But you know that that’s not true. That’s a lie. … There are lots of densely-populated places with guns without a lot of murders. Maybe there’s something else. Maybe it’s not the guns. And you know that that’s true, so why don’t you just say it?”

Talk of background checks ensued.

Back to Tucker, who referenced Tuesday’s horrific execution of a Chicago 4th grader in broad daylight as a strike against the boy’s father’s gang:

“The person who pulled the trigger in this specific case, who was accused of murdering the 9-year-old, had a prior conviction — was not allowed to have a gun under federal law in the first place. And so that’s the point that you ignore every time, which is that people who break the law tend not to obey the law.”

Solid. Bernard went back to loopholes.

You should see for yourself how it ended.

“Might be my last gun control debate,” Tucker uttered to the audience.

“It’s too stupid. I’m sorry to afflict that upon you.”

The Fox host references a riddle no one appears able to answer: A gun ban will take firearms from law-abiding citizens; now how do propose to get them from the criminals?

All of the present plans seem concentrated on disarming those who follow the law. Shouldn’t murderers and robbers be the groups they’re focusing on?

How do you get their guns? They’re the ones, ya know, murderin’.

In the aftermath of 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke’s “Hell yes” comments at last Thursday’s Democratic debate on the issue of his gun confiscation plan, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) took Politifact to task on the Twitter machine for a fact check they did on him during their Senate race last year.

Here’s what Cruz wrote last Friday:

In a nutshell, in March 2018 Politifact rated as “false” a claim made in a song Cruz debuted the night of the Texas primaries which asserted that Beto “wants to take our guns”:

O’Rourke backs a ban on the future sale and possession of about 200 kinds of guns including AR-15-style rifles. But the legislation he’s cosponsoring doesn’t provide for officials to take any guns held lawfully at the time the measure becomes law.

We rate this Cruz claim False.

Fast forward to this week, where Politifact didn’t take too kindly to Cruz questioning their supposed impartiality. So of course they decided to fact check him in an effort to clear the air:

O’Rourke’s position may have changed, but that doesn’t affect the rating of our 2018 fact-check. We rate statements based on the information known at the time the statement is made.
[…]
Cruz also inaccurately called PolitiFact a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Democratic National Committee. PolitiFact is an independent, nonpartisan, nonprofit newsroom that fact-checks Democrats and Republicans alike. PolitiFact Texas is run in partnership with the Austin American-Statesman, a daily newspaper. The same week Cruz called PolitiFact part of the DNC, several Democratic campaigns publicly complained that fact-checkers were giving unfair scrutiny to Democratic messaging and candidate comments.

PolitiFact seeks to present true facts, unaffected by agenda or biases. The reason we publish findings is to give citizens the information they need to govern themselves in a democracy.

Unsurprisingly, Cruz is not backing down and has posted several more tweets since then calling their “independent” status into question:

Cruz’s whole point back when he debuted the song and now is that the slow erosion of 2nd Amendment rights is all part of a ‘step-by-step process” by Democrats to eventually take your guns away, as Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) explained last week:

“When you really understand what the endgame of the left is, it’s literally mandatory buybacks or as I call it: confiscation. This is a step-by-step process for them,” Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) told The Hill Thursday when asked about the debate over expanded background checks for firearms sales.

Not only that, but Politifact has absolutely blown it on a number of rulings they’ve posted just this year alone on claims made by and about Democrats. It doesn’t matter that they occasionally rule against the left – because the exception is not the rule here. On balance, they rule far more often in favor of Democrats than they do Republicans, and it’s not because Democrats are “more honest” than Republicans.

Lastly, Politifact really has no one else to blame but themselves for the belief they are owned by the DNC when you consider how they badly bungled their initial ruling on President Obama’s claim of “if you like your health insurance plan you can keep it.” They ended up backtracking and turning that one into their “Lie of the Year” in 2013.

Again, they’ve brought this on themselves.
