Chick-fil-A customer says manager asked her to ‘cover up’ while breastfeeding

This mom was shocked and surprised at the way she was treated at a Georgia Chick-fil-A.

A manager reportedly asked the woman to “cover up” while she was breastfeeding her infant daughter in the dining room of the fast-food place. After sharing her story on social media, a group of moms staged a “nurse-in” at the restaurant.

Samantha Dawn McIntosh shared her story on Facebook, where she wrote, “So imagine my shock and surprise when I am sitting at Chick-fil-a yesterday with my 9-year-old niece and my daughter (breastfeeding) and the manager walks up out of nowhere and tries to hand me her jacket saying someone has complained and would prefer if I cover up because of the other children in the restaurant…please keep in mind that I am wearing a nursing tank top under a large long sleeve shirt. My shirt was pulled up and resting on my daughter’s cheek and my tank top was pulled down just enough for my daughter to latch so I happen to know that absolutely no skin was showing and we sat in a booth in the back of the restaurant.”

VETERAN CLAIMS HE WAS KICKED OUT OF MCDONALD’S FOR WEARING BLADE AROUND HIS NECK

According to McIntosh, she told the manager that she would finish feeding her baby later, although she admits that she “got angry” over the incident. She then wrote that another mother in the restaurant noticed the situation and called over a different manager to inquire about the company’s policy and ask for the corporate contact information.

“So the original manager that approached me now noticed it has caused a problem with another customer and comes back TO ME to inform me that they have every right to ask me to cover up when I’m nursing my child and that I should just leave it at that,” McIntosh continued. “So I quickly packed the kids and left, all while trying to explain to my niece that I wasn’t doing anything wrong by nursing and that some people don’t see it for what it is (feeding a hungry baby). Needless to say I am extremely disappointed in the way Chick-fil-a management handled the situation.”

McIntosh’s post was shared over 15,000 times and received about 14,000 reactions. Motivated by the post, a group of moms held a “nurse-in” at the restaurant, CBS 46 reports. The group told reporters that it’s legal to breastfeed in Georgia “anywhere a mother is allowed to bring a child.”

The owner of the Chick-fil-A, Jason Adams, spoke with local news outlet WRDW, saying, “I am truly sorry for the experience Ms. McIntosh had in our restaurant yesterday. I have reached out to her to personally apologize. My goal is to provide a warm and welcoming environment for all of our guests.”

Intermittent fasting sheds more weight, but Mediterranean still healthier overall, study claims

A major new scientific study of diets shows that intermittent fasting sheds most weight but the Mediterranean diet is healthier as well as easier to stick with long-term.

Co-lead author Dr. Michelle Jospe said the results showed people found the Mediterranean diet to be the easiest to adhere to.

FOOD LABELS THAT INCLUDE EXERCISE ADVICE COULD HELP BATTLE OBESITY, RESEARCHERS CLAIM

She said, “Our participants could follow the diet’s guidelines more closely than the fasting and paleo diets and were more likely to stay with it after the year, as our retention rates showed.”

A study found almost six in ten (57 percent) were still on the Med diet at the end of the year.

This compared to 54 percent of those who chose the 5:2 diet, a type of intermittent fasting, and just a third (35 percent) who opted for the paleo ‘caveman’ eating plan.

Those on the Med diet also saw big improvements in their blood pressure and glucose levels – reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

The Med diet encourages consumption of fruit, vegetables, whole-grain breads and cereals, legumes, nuts, seeds and olive oil with moderate amounts of fish, chicken, eggs and dairy and red meat once a week or less.

But the study found those who managed to stay on the fasting diet where participants ate a quarter of their normal calories on two days of the week lost slightly more weight – an average of nine pounds over the 12 months.

This compared to six and four pounds for the Med and paleo diets respectively, reports the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

The researchers at the University of Otago in Canada said the findings supported the idea there wasn’t a single “right” approach to diet.

Co-lead author Dr. Melyssa Roy said, “In the real world, the one right way to lose weight and eat right is that you can find what suits you the best, and whatever diet is the best is the one you stick to.

“If you choose something that suits you, and is basically a selection of healthy foods, and perhaps eating a bit less often, you can actually get real-world benefits and just live a normal life, and lose weight and see improvements in your health.”

The study also showed expensive weight-loss products or ongoing dietitian advice were not necessary to help.

Most of the 250 participants (54 percent) chose the fasting diet, while 27 percent chose the Mediterranean and 18 percent the paleo.

The aim of the research was to examine how effective all three diets were in a “real world” setting, where participants self-selected which diet they wished to follow, without any ongoing support from a dietitian.

Dr. Roy says the evidence shows that for some people the Mediterranean, fasting or paleo (Paleolithic) diets can be “healthful, beneficial ways to eat.”

Mars Wrigley creates largest-ever Snickers bar

Hungry? Why not grab a Snickers that can effectively feed a small city?

AMERICANS DIVIDED OVER ‘BONELESS WINGS,’ SURVEY FINDS

To honor the iconic candy brand’s 90th anniversary, the brains behind Snickers decided, hey, what better way to celebrate that than with a 4,700-pound candy bar? Someone in the room then likely said, “There is no better way!” and thus the “largest Snickers bar ever created” was born.

The bar reportedly took more than 600 people to construct and used caramel, peanuts, nougat and 3,500 pounds of chocolate to create the “equivalent to more than 41,000 single-size Snickers bars.”

The brand further said that, again, the four-thousand-seven-hundred-pound-candy-bar is but “a small version of something even bigger the brand has planned.

Coca-Cola reveals new ice cream-inspired Vanilla Float flavor

Is there anything better than relaxing with a cold Coca-Cola? Last summer, for the first time in over a decade, Coke released a brand-new Orange Vanilla flavor to celebrate the classic taste we all know and love. For Christmas, Cinnamon Coke hit shelves, and we seriously couldn’t get enough. Now, the best new flavor has arrived, and we’re begging to get our hands on it.

Vanilla Float Coke packs all the sweetness of summer into a beverage we can’t help but crave. Except—there’s a catch.

It’s the Creamy Goodness We All Need

Vanilla Float Coke is an ice-cream inspired delicacy you won’t be able to put down. Those lucky enough to try Coke’s latest invention have dubbed the sipper their new favorite and said it’s both sweet and subtle. Taste testers regard the flavor as having a hint of vanilla with a satisfying ice cream finish that doesn’t overpower the classic Coke taste.

Vanilla Float Coke was first shared by faithful foodie and Instagram user @JunkFoodontheGo, who couldn’t resist sharing with other fans. They described it as weaker in flavor than Vanilla Coke, but if you’re like us and prefer some subtlety in your drinks, this is the new go-to.

The best new thing to come out of 2019 was Milk Coke. We know it sounds wacky, but we promise it’s worth a try.

Book Your Plane Tickets

Unfortunately, there is a major catch that comes with Vanilla Float Coke. The flavor was released about a week ago in Japan, so it’s going to take some time to get to the U.S. On the bright side, the flavor has already hit shelves in Hong Kong, so we’ve got hope it’ll be popping up in other places, too.

Just keep your eyes on the soda aisle and cross your fingers. This is the summer hit we’re all waiting for!

And you thought pineapple was controversial.

NJ DECLARES ITSELF ‘BAGEL CAPITAL OF THE WORLD,’ TWITTER RESPONDS

In yet another “why?” post on Twitter, one user is being bombarded with critical responses after uploading a photo of a cheese pizza covered in Canadian bacon and–wait for it–kiwi.

Unsurprisingly, people on social media have had strong reactions to the unconventional fruit topping.

Though it’s unclear where the kiwi pizza was ordered — according to Reddit, it came from a Danish pizzeria — it’s not unclear that the majority of commenters hated the idea of it.

In fact, it appears that the concept of kiwi pizza is so grotesque to pizza-eaters that fans and haters of pineapple pizza were able to put their feud aside to focus on a new common enemy, agreeing the green fruit is a “bigger threat.”

However, as maligned as the pizza appears to be, there are small few who either are genuinely interested – or are just trolling.

The major takeaway seems to be fruit and pizza don’t mix. But if it has to be fruit, it should be pineapple, but nothing else. And also probably ignore that tomato is technically a fruit.

The new ‘Burger King’? Prince Harry offered fast-food job after stepping back from royal duties

He did say he was working to become “financially independent,” after all.

Burger King branches in both the U.S. and Argentina have jokingly offered to give Prince Harry a position at their restaurants after he and Duchess Meghan announced their intentions to “step back” as senior members of the royal family last week.

However, both Burger King branches stopped just short of outright offering Harry the title of “Burger King,” which, let’s be honest, is probably the only way he’d even consider taking the gig.

Burger King Argentina kicked things off last week with an ad campaign imploring both of the part-time royals to become part-time Burger King team members, too.

“Dear Dukes, you can look for your first job without giving up the crown,” reads the Spanish-language version. Another tells the couple that, “If you’re looking for a job, we have a new crown for you.”

“Also, after so many years of living as dukes, it is time for you to start eating like kings.”

Burger King (U.S.) followed up a few days later on Twitter, reminding Harry that “this royal family offers part-time positions.”

Some commenters were quick to praise Burger King for the tweet, with one calling them “savage” for the idea and another declaring that they had “won” the Internet, at least for the day.
