The series held the multi-day event in the city for the first time in December 2019, which included concerts, cars doing burnouts on Broadway and the annual awards banquet, all with large crowds in attendance.

“With the uncertainty surrounding the Coronavirus and the impact on the industry, this year’s NASCAR Champion’s Week and NASCAR Cup Series Awards originally scheduled to take place in Nashville will not occur. The 2020 NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series champions will be celebrated at the end of the season with more details to come. We look forward to returning to Nashville in 2021,” the series said.

CORONAVIRUS SURGE COULD CAUSE TENNESSEE TRAVELERS TO FACE QUARANTINE

NASCAR had a two-year deal with the city that included an option for a third, according to the Tennessean. Tennessee is experiencing an increase in coronavirus cases after entering a Phase 2 reopening.

Along with the awards celebration, NASCAR will be returning to racing in The Music City next June, with a Cup Series race at the Nashville Superspeedway, which last held a NASCAR national series race in 2011.

Guinness World Records has posthumously awarded Jessi Combs the fastest land speed mark by a woman following her death during an attempt to break it last year.

The automotive TV personality was driving the jet-powered North American Eagle across Oregon’s Alvord Desert on Aug. 27, 2019, when the vehicle hit a rock and broke a wheel at 550 mph, causing it to lose control and burst into flames as it crashed.

Bubba Wallace knows ‘noose’ photo won’t change skeptics’ minds

Bubba Wallace said he’s glad NASCAR released an image of the garage pull rope tied into a noose that was found in his garage at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday, but knows it won’t change everyone’s opinion of the incident.

Westlake Legal Group bubba- Bubba Wallace knows 'noose' photo won't change skeptics' minds Gary Gastelu fox-news/us/crime/hate-crime fox-news/auto/nascar fox-news/auto/attributes/racing fox news fnc/auto fnc article a3133b71-0fb1-5c17-8ed5-adcb83241a4c

An FBI investigation determined that the noose was present in the garage last October when no one could’ve known Wallace’s team would be assigned to it, but not before the entire NASCAR field put on a dramatic show of support for Wallace at the start of the Geico 500 on Monday.

“It wasn’t directed towards me or my family, but somebody still knows how to tie a noose. And whether they did it as a bad joke or not, who knows? But it was good for the public to see. It still won’t change most, or some people’s mind of me being a hoax, but it is what it is,” Wallace said during an online press conference on Friday.

Addressing criticism from some quarters that NASCAR’s initial response was over the top, President Steve Phelps said he wishes he had been less emotional when announcing the discovery, but would’ve followed the same course of action investigating it.

“You see what’s going on outside of the sport and the way we reacted to it, the way it was brought to my attention I thought it was done the right way,” Wallace said. “[Could we have] worded it differently? Sure, but you can’t let that slip up and be just ‘ah, it might be a mistake.’ I would encourage them to do the same thing over and over again.”

BUBBA WALLACE’S GIRLFRIEND REACTS TO FBI INVESTIGATION

The Richard Petty Motorsports driver said he is “wore the hell out” and frustrated from all of the attention he’s been getting this week, but that he’s finally seeing a light at the end of the tunnel.

“But I’m probably a fool for thinking that, because its 2020 and something else will happen probably tomorrow and I’ll be right back where we are.”

Wallace, who was instrumental in NASCAR’s recent ban on displays of the Confederate flag at its events, said people who want to fly it outside the tracks, as several did at Talladega, can do what they want.

“It’s their right to peaceful protest, my man, so, it’s part of it. But you won’t see them inside the race tracks where we’re having a good time with new the fans who purchased their tickets.

“Outside, they’re just going to be making a lot of noise.”

Wallace said there’s no guidebook for what he’s been going through, and that he’s learning how to deal with it as he goes along, but he has a message for people who take to social media to criticize people who find themselves in his position.

“The people that are sitting on the couch that have never done anything to their lives to be able to amount to something and they are jealous of your lifestyle, they’re just trying to throw hate, spew hate, and that’s unfortunate. But you just have to think you’re living in your own life and you don’t have time to worry about other people’s lives. So you shouldn’t let them dictate how you live your life. Live life to the fullest.”

North Carolina race track owner slammed for ‘Bubba Rope’ advertisement

The owner of a North Carolina race track is under fire for advertising a “Bubba Rope” promotion on Facebook Marketplace.

The post came after the FBI announced on Tuesday that a garage door-pull rope tied into a noose-style knot found in NASCAR start Bubba Wallace’s garage at Talladega Superspeedway was not a hate crime directed at the African- American driver.

The post from Pine Hill, N.C., 311 Speedway owner Mike Fulp said, “Buy your Bubba Rope today for only $9.99 each, they come with a lifetime warranty and work great,” but was deleted after receiving several critical comments from self-described loyal spectators.

Fulp did not include an image with the post. A company called Bubba Rope sells tow and recovery ropes for off-road trucks that range in price from around $60 to $1000, but it is not known if that is what he was referring to.

“This incident of racism is horrific and shameful,” a spokesperson for Governor Roy Cooper told the Winston-Salem Journal.

“North Carolina is better than this.”

The local NAACP chapter president Jeff Crisp told the newspaper that he has discussed pursuing criminal charges against Fulp with the state director of the NAACP

“It is horrible that someone would post something of that nature,” Crisp said.

Earlier in the week, Fulp posted a message to Facebook announcing that the speedway was sponsoring a “Heritage Night” on June 27, and encouraged fans to purchase Confederate flags and caps, adding “don’t forget your 2nd Amendment Right.” The Confederate flag is flown next to the American flag at the track.

Fulp also advertised a $5 Ladies Night for Saturday and said anyone who kneels for the national anthem will be escorted off of the property.

Two phone numbers associated with Fulp are currently out of service and no one was answering the phone at the track on Thursday, according to the Associated Press.

Pope Francis sent a letter to Paralympic gold medalist Alex Zanardi for “giving strength to those who had lost it” following a serious cycling accident he was involved in last week.

The pope offered a special prayer for the former auto racing champion who remains in a medically induced coma and on a ventilator after he crashed his handbike into a truck near the Tuscan town of Pienza during a relay race Friday.

SEVERAL NBA PLAYERS TEST POSITIVE FOR CORONAVIRUS WEEKS OUT FROM SEASON RESTART

“Your story is an example of how to start again after a sudden halt,” the letter read, according to Vatican News. “Through sport you have demonstrated how to live life as protagonists, making disability a lesson in humanity. Thank you for giving strength to those who had lost it. In this painful moment I am close to you, I pray for you and your family. May the Lord bless you and Our Lady keep you”.

The 53-year-old Zanardi won two championships in CART in the United States and had two stints in Formula One. He crashed during a CART event in Germany in 2001, and both of his legs were severed in a horrific accident the weekend after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

During his recovery, Zanardi designed his own prosthetics and learned to walk again. He then turned his attention to hand cycling and developed into one of the most accomplished athletes in the world. He won four gold medals and two silvers at the 2012 and 2016 Paralympics, competed in the New York City Marathon and set an Ironman record in his class.

Bubba Wallace said on Wednesday that he was “relieved” that a rope tied into what resembled a noose found in his garage at Talladega Superspeedway wasn’t meant to be a message of hate directed at him, and his girlfriend is also “thankful” it was a misunderstanding.

“I am so proud of you for standing up for what is right and continuing to do so without fear of the outcome. For continuing to stand faced with uncertainty and fear all with a smile on your face,” Amanda Carter wrote in an Instagram post.

“I am so proud of you for using your platform. I wish the people saying hurtful comments knew you.
I wish everyone knew you.”

Wallace and Carter, who works as a financial analyst in Charlotte, N.C., have been dating for several years and she was often seen at races with him before restrictions were put in place due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“I hope people continue to stand with you because you’re standing for so many others… so many little boys and girls who dream of going fast but haven’t seen someone who looks like them, for all the new and old fans who felt uncomfortable coming to a race and for everyone who has experienced racism,” her post continued.

“I am so thankful that this was not a purposeful act, I am so thankful you are safe.”

The noose was tied at the end of a rope used as a garage door pull. Following the discovery on Sunday, an FBI investigation determined that it had been present in the garage as early as October of 2019, when no one could’ve known Wallace’s team would be assigned to it. NASCAR officials have not released an official photo but said it was unusual and that an internal probe aimed at finding out who and why it was tied that way in the first place continues.

The FBI has determined that a noose found in NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace’s garage at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday had been there since at least last year, according to the bureau.

A statement issued by U.S. Attorney Jay E. Town said that an investigation has concluded that no federal crime was committed.

“The FBI learned that garage number 4, where the noose was found, was assigned to Bubba Wallace last week. The investigation also revealed evidence, including authentic video confirmed by NASCAR, that the noose found in garage number 4 was in that garage as early as October 2019,” the bureau said. “Although the noose is now known to have been in garage number 4 in 2019, nobody could have known Mr. Wallace would be assigned to garage number 4 last week.”

Further details were not immediately released. The FBI said no charges would be pursued in relation to the incident.

“The FBI has completed its investigation at Talladega Superspeedway and determined that Bubba Wallace was not the target of a hate crime, NASCAR said in a release after the findings. “The FBI report concludes, and photographic evidence confirms, that the garage door pull rope fashioned like a noose had been positioned there since as early as last fall.”

This is a developing story, check back for updates.

Bubba Wallace has been wearing an American flag facemask at NASCAR tracks in recent weeks, but he didn’t put it on at the end of the Geico 500 at Talladega Superspeedway after a noose was found in his garage. It wasn’t a protest, it was a show of strength.

“Sorry I’m not wearing my mask, but I wanted to show whoever it was that you’re not going to take away my smile,” Wallace told Fox Sports reporter Jamie Little.

Wallace has become the central figure in NASCAR’s response to the civil rights movement sweeping the country, which has included a ban on displays of the Confederate flag at its events. Prior to the race, the entire NASCAR Cup Series field stood behind Wallace on pit row during the invocation and playing of the national anthem to show their support.

“The pre-race deal was probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to witness in my life,” Wallace said.

“It’s been tough. It’s been hell, really, ah, I wouldn’t say hell, it’s just been hectic. You know, carrying this weight and carrying this burden. I wouldn’t really say burden, either. I’m proud to stand where I’m at.”

Wallace led the race for one lap with 27 laps to go and was in contention to win, but ran out of gas near the end and was pushed to the pits by competitor Corey LaJoie, allowing him to restart and finish in 14th place.

“All in all, we won today.”

Wallace greeted a group of black fans who drove from Atlanta to see their first race thanks largely to the attention he’s brought to the sport in recent weeks.

The discovery came one day before a similar item was discovered in the garage of African American NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace at Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama on Sunday, which prompted an FBI investigation and outpouring of support for Wallace from his colleagues before the start of the Geico 500 on Monday afternoon.

NASCAR president says whoever left noose in Bubba Wallace’s garage will be ‘banned for life’

NASCAR president Steve Phelps said there are not a lot of answers yet in regard to an investigation into a noose that was left in driver Bubba Wallace’s garage at the Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday.

Wallace is the only African-American driver in the NASCAR Cup Series and has become the focal point of the sport’s response to the Black Lives Matter movement and has helped lead an effort to have displays of the Confederate flag banned from its events.

On a conference call with media on Monday ahead of the Geico 500, which was postponed a day due to weather, Phelps wouldn’t share many details of the ongoing investigation, including what video evidence of the scene might exist, but laid out a timeline of what happened around the discovery. He said a crewmember found the noose and notified NASCAR officials who got internal security involved. After a meeting of NASCAR leadership, an investigation was launched with the Talladega County Sheriff before the FBI was notified on Monday morning.

Phelps said the FBI is on site and that NASCAR is using all resources available to it to determine who was behind the “heinous act,” with plans to ban them from the sport for life.

“I don’t care who they are, they won’t be here,” Phelps said.

Denying the unfounded allegation that has been spreading on social media that NASCAR had staged the incident for publicity, Phelps said it “personally offends me,” and that “I don’t even know where to go with that.”

The garage area was in an area only accessible to essential personnel and Phelps said security was significant, but that he couldn’t speculate about the possibility that it had been breached.

He also confirmed that security has been stepped up in the wake of the incident and that Wallace’s Richard Petty Motorsports team have been able to inspect his car for any possible sabotage.

Team owner Richard Petty issued a statement on Monday stating that he was “enraged” by the “filthy act.”
