Former Miss Michigan World Kathy Zhu tells of support and criticism since her title was taken away

Miss Michigan World Kathy Zhu is speaking out after the Miss World America organization stripped her of her crown on Friday, saying it was made aware of a number of controversial tweets following her victory.

Kathy Zhu, a 20-year-old political science student and president of College Republicans at the University of Michigan, is now going public with emails and texts she exchanged with officials from Miss World America, and spoke with Fox News on Monday about the negative and positive responses she has received.

BEAUTY QUEEN, A TRUMP FAN, DETHRONED AFTER CONSERVATIVE VIEWS RULED ‘INSENSITIVE,’ SHE SAYS

“When conservative media first took the story, there were a lot of positive responses, but ever since the liberal media took everything and basically smeared my name there was negative backlash,” Zhu told Fox News. “But that is minor to all the positive feedback I’ve gotten.”

The beauty queen insists her nationality, and the fact that she’s a minority, have functioned as a battery energizing liberals who are upset with her conservative political views; she said the left has a difficult time accepting the idea of a conservative minority.

KANYE WEST TELLS LETTERMAN PUBLIC ‘COMPLETELY BULLIED’ BY MEDIA TO ‘THINK CERTAIN THINGS’

“Yeah, I think that’s a big factor, only because I feel the left has a hard time understanding that minorities can be conservatives, too,” she said. “And I feel like that was a big trigger for them, especially going through my accounts and seeing me wearing the MAGA hat – I feel like that’s what really upset them,”

Zhu, talking about judgments made over social media postings, said she feels everyone has the ability the change and shouldn’t be characterized by their pasts.

ALYSSA MILANO RAISES EYEBROWS AFTER ANNOUNCING WHICH CANDIDATE’S FUNDRAISER SHE’LL BE ATTENDING

Zhu said she has received criticism from students on her own college campus, though she found irony in having a trove of accusations of racism levied against her by liberals, even as many of the same people hurled offensive and insensitive epithets back at her in their attacks.

“My friends have been texting me saying that they’ve heard people talking about it in their classes or their work. A lot of people know about it, so it has been a little weird walking on campus knowing that people are more familiar with the situation and having things misinterpreted,” said Zhu.

“Because headlines are very short and most of them say, ‘Miss Michigan racist,’ so it’s super inflammatory. But I’ve also gotten … backlash from the left criticizing me of being racist, but they used racial slurs against me.”

SWEDISH PROSECUTORS DROP INVESTIGATION INTO MAN IN FIGHT WITH A$AP ROCKY

The college senior said Miss World America should have been aware of her political affiliation, considering she provided the organization with a list of all of her social media handles during the vetting process.

“The second thing is I feel like they should have confirmed with me first and talked with me first about the situation before they made their decision,” she added.

“They never even gave me a chance to confirm it myself, they just completely accused me – then they sent me the email two hours later about de-crowning me.”

Asked what she hopes people take away from her situation, Zhu said she simply wants to foster a conversation surrounding political and societal issues.

She also hopes that one day that talk can occur in a less volatile forum.

“The situation was a negative one for me in the beginning, but afterward it turned into a positive thing because I’ve gotten a lot more support and attention to my views and opinions online,” said Zhu. “I’ve always wanted to be a full-time political commentator or a news host, so this really brought conservative voices and attention to what I believe in.”

Zhu said that through it all, she stands behind her views and the way she handled the situation: “I stand by all of the tweets that I tweeted out from my Twitter account, but I don’t think that any of them were remotely racist or insensitive. I just think I presented the facts and presented my own opinion of things.”

A$AP Rocky gets better prison conditions in Sweden thanks to White House intervention

The White House has secured better jailhouse conditions for A$AP Rocky, Page Six has learned.

The Harlem hip-hop star has been locked up in a Swedish prison for more than two weeks after he got in a street fight with two men who had been tailing him and his entourage through the streets of Stockholm.

But when Rocky’s manager, John Ehmann, complained that his client’s conditions at the Kronoberg detention center were “inhumane,” the Urban Revitalization Coalition — an organization set up by the Trump administration — put Ehmann in contact with senior White House aide and President Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner.

KIM KARDASHIAN THANKS TRUMP, POMPEO AND KUSHNER FOR EFFORTS TO GET A$AP ROCKY RELEASED FROM SWEDEN JAIL

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West also lobbied Kushner to intervene in Rocky’s case.

“Jared immediately got Rocky moved to better living conditions,” Pastor Darrell Scott of the URC told Page Six exclusively. “They had this guy in a crap hole. I don’t know if it’s a different facility [that he’s now in], but he’s at least on a different floor. It’s better surroundings.”

Scott said that he and colleague Kareem Lanier told Trump about the situation as well.

“[Trump] asked, ‘Do you like the guy, do you trust him?’ And he said, ‘OK, we’ll look into it then.’ ” Scott added, “It was never a publicity grab . . . It’s just this administration trying to help an American citizen overseas who’s in dire straits.”

He added, “Jared called Sunday evening and said that it’s looking optimistic.”

Trump also got Secretary of State Mike Pompeo involved, Scott tells us.

SWEDEN SHOULD TREAT A$AP ROCKY ‘WITH RESPECT’: US STATE DEPARTMENT

Meanwhile, the governor of the detention center — where Rocky’s being held because he’s been deemed a flight risk by Swedish authorities — has told Page Six the facility has “been completely renovated.”

Reports said Rocky was sleeping on a yoga mat, eating an apple a day and next to a feces-throwing inmate.

The State Department has said, “We expect all governments, including Sweden, to treat American citizens fairly and with respect.”

‘Star Wars’ actor Riz Ahmed says he was racially profiled: ‘It’s really scary to be Muslim right now’

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” actor Riz Ahmed claimed he was racially profiled on a flight in April, causing him to miss a Star Wars Celebration convention in Chicago.

Ahmed, 36, made his comments Tuesday at the CAA Amplify conference, Variety reported.

The “Venom” star described being swabbed for explosives and questioned at an unnamed airport in the United States, claiming it wasn’t a rare occurrence and that he’s frequently stopped and searched when he flies. The Department of Homeland Security wouldn’t comment on any alleged incidents without being given a specific date.

BURBERRY CONFUSES BRITISH ACTOR RIZ AHMED WITH DEV PATEL

“With all my privilege and profile, I often wonder if this is going to be the year they round us up, if this is the year they’re going to put Trump’s Muslim registry into action, if this is going to be the year they ship us all off,” he reportedly told the crowd.

He pointed out that the success of other high-profile Muslim stars hasn’t necessarily helped the plight of other Muslims in the United States.

“[Hasan Minhaj] could win a Peabody, I could win an Emmy, Ibtihaj Muhammad could win the Olympics, but some of these obstacles are systemic, and we can’t really face them alone,” he said. “We need your help. I’m basically here to ask for your help. Because it’s really scary to be a Muslim right now. Super scary.”

RIZ AHMED FEARS PEOPLE WILL TURN TO ISIS DUE TO LACK OF REPRESENTATION IN MEDIA

Ahmed also made note of Uighur Muslims being detained in China, as well as the influence of nationalism on Brexit, adding, “I think lives are quite literally at stake here. The representation of Muslims on screen — that feeds the policies that get enacted, the people that get killed, the countries that get invaded.”

The star, who was raised in Great Britain, previously told Stephen Colbert that he’s hoping to change stereotypes in his native country through his work, especially in “The Night Of,” in which he played a Pakistani-American college student accused of murder.

“When I was growing up, I felt like I had to qualify it and say I’m British-Pakistani,” Ahmed said on “The Late Show” in August 2016. “But now, in this day and age, I feel like this is what British looks like me. It looks like me, like Idris Elba. And hopefully through Nasir Khan, people will see that’s what American can look like as well.”

Celebrities react to the second night of Democratic primary debates for the 2020 election

The second night of debates for Democratic hopefuls in the 2020 presidential election took the stage in Miami, Florida on Thursday and Hollywood celebrities were among the loudest voices discussing the showcase on social media.

Former Vice President Joe Biden, Sens. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Kamala Harris, D-Calif., and South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg were among the ten Democrats jabbing at each other, as well as incumbent candidate President Donald Trump. As with the first night of debates, celebrities far-and-wide took to Twitter to sound off on the hopefuls’ respective performances.

BIDEN GRILLED BY HARRIS ON RACE RECORD AT CHAOTIC DEM DEBATE, AS BERNIE’S ‘SOCIALIST’ AGENDA CHALLENGED

Comedian Billy Eichner kicked things off by discussing Buttigieg being on the stage ahead of the debate.

“The Stonewall uprising was 50 years ago TONIGHT, June 27, 1969. And it took 50 years for us to get an openly gay man on the stage at a Democratic Presidential debate. Thank you @PeteButtigieg for being brave and bold and creating a new frontier for LGBT representation,” he wrote.

Eichner followed up with: “Kamala on fire. Pete is brilliant. Proud to be a Democrat tonight! LET’S GO!!!”

“There’s no way Marianne Williamson doesn’t call these debates ‘recitals,'” wrote comedian Michelle Wolf.

“Tonight’s winners: Kamala Harris & Bernie Sanders! Bernie’s closing statement was THE warning: If we don’t vote for the ONE who will take on Wall St & corporate America, NOTHING will change. Again, only 2 candidates raised their hands AGAINST for-profit health ins:Kamala & Bernie,” filmmaker Michael Moore wrote.

Sarah Silverman shared a simple ranking of her “winners” of the debate, writing: “Winners of the night no contest IMO: Kamala Bernie Pete #DemDebate2.”

Rosie O’Donnell took a shot at Biden, writing: “oh yes @KamalaHarris – oh yes Joe – youre too old.”

PETE BUTTIGIEG USES BORDER TO SLAM REPUBLICANS’ CHRISTIAN ‘HYPOCRISY’

“If you don’t have a dead relative, don’t even THINK about getting in this healthcare debate,” Bill Maher noted.

“More impressive candidates last night than tonight, but Buttigieg and Harris delivered in very different ways. My fear is that intellectual laziness will cause people to gravitate toward Biden alone as the “safe” choice. You’ve met them all. Now do your homework,” wrote Seth MacFarlane.

“Ones to watch for me. @KamalaHarris @PeteButtigieg and @juliancastro,” wrote “Shameless” star Emmy Rossum.

“Here comes Kamala for ALL their necks,” Amber Tamblyn shared.

Mia Farrow kept things simple, writing: “Kamals”

“The moderators are oh so scared of Bernie / rightfully so – in a weird way – their paychecks as pundits will get exposed the other candidates trying to take down Biden,” wrote John Cusack.

“Even Marianne Williamson doesn’t know who Marianne Williamson is. #DemDebate2020,” mocked Mark Hamill.

“Do I think we need way more climate crisis questions? Yes. But these Dem debates have, overall, been way more progressive than any I’ve ever seen,” Adam McKay tweeted.

“You can’t be an advocate to fight #climatechange when you #fracked Colorado, harming the health of children and families across the state. You are part of the problem, not part of the solution,
@Hickenlooper.  #DemDebate,” Mark Ruffalo noted.

“But seriously, it is refreshing to hear intelligent people speaking in cogent, logical sentences about actual issues that matter,” wrote “Star Trek” actor George Takei.

“I will vote for the candidate who can change this awful music in this restaurant,” Alec Baldwin joked.

“Marianne Williamson for Secretary of Crystals,” comedian Michael Ian Black wrote.

“Let’s cut the bulls— my resister friends, of the 20 we’ve now seen only 1 will send the 2 real enemies of the people, donnie & mitch, where all traitors to our cherished system need to be relagated to, trading cigs with the manaforts of this world in lockup. @KamalaHarris,” wrote Ron Perlman.

“My favorite part of the #DemDebate2 is that we’re getting closer to being able to vote for a new President,” wrote Piper Perabo.

Alyssa Milano wrapped things up with her review of some key candidates: “My initial thoughts: .@KamalaHarris is mesmerizing and so smart. I was inspired. I wanted to hear more from @AndrewYang and @marwilliamson and I felt like they were dismissed. I felt @PeteButtigieg is a bright light in a super dark time.But @KamalaHarris—WOW!”

A survivor of the Pulse Nightclub shooting says Madonna’s new video tackling gun violence was deeply upsetting and triggering to her, arguing the singer’s approached the conversation was all wrong.

On Wednesday, the 60-year-old singer released a video for “God Control,” a play on “gun control.” The eight-minute clip begins with a graphic content warning to viewers and depicts a gunman storming a night club and opening fire on the crowd, killing many people.

Following the release of the video, Madonna took to Twitter to urge fans to act in advocacy of gun control.

“This is your wake up call,” the 60-year-old singer wrote in part. “Gun violence disproportionately affects children, teenagers and the marginalized in our communities. Honor the victims and demand GUN CONTROL. NOW. Volunteer, stand up, donate, reach out.”

MADONNA FELT ‘RAPED’ BY NEW YORK TIMES PROFILE SHE CONSIDERS SEXIST

However, speaking to TMZ, Pulse Nightclub survivor, Patience Carter, explained that the video didn’t do all it could to avoid bringing victims of gun violence back to that horrible place, calling the depiction “grossly accurate.”

“As a survivor of gun violence, it w3as really hard to watch,“ she said in a video.

“I understood what she was trying to do with bringing awareness to the topic of gun control, but I definitely felt that wasn’t the right way to go about doing it,” she explained. “Because, for someone like me who actually saw those images, who actually lived those images, to see them again dramatized for views, dramatized for YouTube, I feel like it was really insensitive.”

MADONNA SAYS HARVEY WEINSTEIN CROSSED ‘LINES AND BOUNDARIES’ WITH HER, SAYS DONALD TRUMP IS ‘INSECURE’

She continued: “You could not think about the person that was actually in those incidents, that actually lost someone, that actually had to experience that bloodshed firsthand. Think about how they would feel reliving, because that’s what it is, reliving this all over again. And it’s bringing up that pain, all that healing, all that growth can crumble with one video.”

Madonna previously told People that her reasoning behind the controversial video was simply to draw attention to what she considers the biggest problem facing the United States at the moment.

Clint Eastwood to film new Richard Jewell movie in Georgia despite calls for boycott over abortion bill

Clint Eastwood will film his new movie, “The Ballad of Richard Jewell,” in Georgia despite many Hollywood celebrities calling for a boycott of the state due to its controversial “heartbeat” abortion bill.

The bill, which was signed by Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, prohibits abortions in the state after a heartbeat is detected, which can be as early as six weeks into a pregnancy. Celebrities such as Jameela Jamill, Busy Philipps, Tiffany Haddish, Alyssa Milano and Milla Jovovich have spoken out about the bill and more than 50 others called for studios to boycott filming in the state until the ban is lifted.

According to WJCL, Eastwood is moving forward with production on his latest movie in Georgia, clearly ignoring the calls for a boycott. It wouldn’t make much sense to film anywhere else as the often right-leaning director and actor will helm a story that’s very specific to the city of Atlanta. “The Ballad of Richard Jewell” is based on a real-life incident that took place during the 1996 Olympics there.

Security guard Richard Jewell discovered a pipe bomb in a knapsack at a park near the Olympic grounds. Although he reportedly helped clear bystanders out of harm’s way, he was later named as the primary suspect in the case. Jewell endured countless media outlets naming him a lone bomber and terrorist after being named a suspect, only to be cleared of all charges three months later.

Eric Robert Rudolph pleaded guilty to the bombing in 2005. Jewell eventually sued media outlets for dragging his name through the mud and won. Variety reports Kathy Bates, Olivia Wilde, Jon Hamm, and Sam Rockwell have all signed on for roles in the upcoming movie, which is expected to begin filming in Georgia soon.

While Eastwood and his handful of stars are not observing the Georgia boycott, many big studios that film there such as Netflix, Disney and AMC have publicly spoken about the possibility of moving their work out of the state due to its passing of the “heartbeat” bill.

“We have many women working on productions in Georgia, whose rights, along with millions of others, will be severely restricted by this law,” Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos previously said. “Given the legislation has not yet been implemented, we’ll continue to film there, while also supporting partners and artists who choose not to. Should it ever come into effect, we’d rethink our entire investment in Georgia.”

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Tex mocked John Cusack over a tweet critics claimed was ‘anti-Semitic’ Monday, asking if the “Hot Tub Time Machine” star was “one of the freshman trio” of Democratic congresswomen who have previously been criticized.

In a tweet that has since been deleted, Cusack shared a cartoon, writing, “follow the money.” The cartoon shows a hand with a Star of David pushing down a group of people along with a Voltaire quote, “To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize.”

Shortly after the tweet was deleted, Cusack explained to his followers that he was reacting to “pro Palestinian justice” and that a “bot” was to blame for the post.

“A bot got me,” Cusack tweeted. “I thought I was endorsing a pro Palestinian justice retweet – of an earlier post – it came I think from a different source – Shouldn’t Have retweeted.”

Cruz, who is co-sponsored a resolution denouncing anti-Semitism with Sen. Tim Kaine, D-VA, slammed the actor on Twitter.

“Is John Cusack one of the freshmen trio of Dem women? I’m sensing a pattern…” Cruz tweeted.

The “freshmen trio of Dem women” is likely a reference to Representatives Ilhan Omar, D-Minn, Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-NY. Omar has been accused of anti-Semitism on Twitter and with remarks in condemnation of Israel. Tlaib has been repeatedly seen with pro-Hezbollah activists and stirred up controversy while reflecting on the Holocaust as bringing her “comfort” due to her Palestinian ancestors she claims welcomed Jewish refugees during and after WWII.

David Spade won’t joke about Donald Trump in new comedy show

David Spade won’t make jokes about President Donald Trump in his new Comedy Central show because he’s an “easier target” than most.

The host of the upcoming “Lights Out with David Spadetold The Daily Mail that he’d leave the political skewering to his fellow late-night hosts, including Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel.

“They are funny and smart and have good jokes about it,” he said. “At this point, it would be just piling on.”

Still, Spade admits he’s a little worried about the effect his stance (or lack thereof) will have on audiences, explaining, “I mean you have to be [concerned with the ratings]. I will live or die with whether people think I am funny or not because they have all done that. So I don’t even know what I can even know what I could add to that.”

The 54-year-old comedian also said he would go easier on other stars than he has in his past projects.

“I don’t think it’ll be as rough on celebs like I was on [‘Saturday Night Live‘],” he admitted. “Now I’m kind of one of them. I will think of being funny against them, but I don’t want to take anyone’s legs out too hard. It is a bad pitch.”

As for what fans can expect from “Lights Out,” Spade joked, “We are trying to do the coldest thing. We want to do stuff that no one wants to see.”

JAMES CORDEN: ALL THE PEOPLE I LIKE AND RESPECT DON’T LIKE TRUMP

“I just thought when we talked to Comedy Central that it was sort of like what could we do with me and my sense of humor, and maybe it is time for a non-political fun show again making fun [of] whatever else is going on. Gender reveals drive me crazy, anything going on in music and acting,” he said.

“There are so many funny things that we all make fun of. Get some comedians in and do that again instead of getting so heated about the country. The country is going to work or not work without me involved. So I will stay away and let all the other celebrities handle fixing that.”
