Dagen McDowell: Media rips Trump July 4th ‘salute’ because ‘he’s taken up residence in their heads’

President Trump’s July 4th “Salute to America” event is being blasted in the press because pundits are obsessed with the Commander-in-Chief, according to Dagen McDowell.

Trump’s unique event near the Lincoln Memorial should not be that controversial, McDowell claimed Wednesday on “The Five.”

“I find it hilarious watching these montages of the huffing-and-puffing media,” she said. “They don’t realize that President Trump has taken up residence in their head — that he is their sun. Their world revolves around him. They can’t get out of bed unless he’s up tweeting already because he gives them light.”

TANKS ARRIVE IN DC AS TRUMP CONFIRMS JULY FOURTH CELEBRATION WILL FEATURE MILITARY DISPLAY

“He’s turned them into ranting and raving lunatics who hate fireworks and the Fourth of July.”

In the montage she referenced, MSNBC analyst Jeremy Bash, who worked in the Obama administration, characterized the event as “nauseating.”

“This is not just obnoxious tackiness, this is actually dangerous — it’s fundamentally unamerican,” Bash claimed.

In another clip, MSNBC host Joy Reid claimed the president is holding the event because he fashions himself an authoritarian leader.

“What is the message Donald Trump is trying to send by rolling tanks down Constitution Avenue?” Reid asked. “Who is that message to? It’s certainly not to tyrants — he loves tyrants … The message is a threat, and I hate to say that but Donald Trump styles himself a tyrant, not a defeater of tyrants.”

On “The Five,” Jesse Watters echoed some of McDowell’s sentiment.

“He’s not polarizing anything,” the “Watters’ World” host claimed.

“If you have a celebration of our American military and you have some F-22’s and Abrams tanks, and some flyovers — and if you guys on the left are offended by that … you’re the ones politicizing the event.”

Acting DHS secretary says AOC’s border facility statements ‘not accurate,’ praises agents’ work

A claim by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., that migrants being held at a Texas border facility had to drink from a toilet is inaccurate, according to acting Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan.

Border Patrol agents are doing incredible work with limited resources, and Congress must step up and provide more support, he said Wednesday on “Special Report.”

“It’s just not accurate,” he said of the Bronx lawmaker’s claim.

“We would never ask anyone to drink out of a toilet. The women in that cell had access to a five-gallon jug of water with cups right outside the door of their cell — which was not locked.”

Earlier this week, Ocasio-Cortez reacted to her visit to the facility.

AOC CLAIMS WOMEN AT BORDER FACILITY BEING FORCED TO DRINK ‘OUT OF TOILETS’ AFTER TOUR

“This was them on their best behavior and they put them in a room with no running water, and these women were being told by CBP officers to drink out of the toilet,” she said. “And that was them knowing a congressional visit was coming.”

The New York Democrat said people of all ages were being mistreated.

She also said she “forced herself” into one of the cells to get a better look and spoke with a woman who claimed the guards were practicing “psychological warfare” by interrupting their sleep and calling them names.

In his interview with Mike Emanuel, McAleenan said it took Congress several weeks to approve emergency supplemental funding, after asking lawmakers to go further and “close loopholes” he claimed are aggravating the crisis at the border.

“It was a crisis the whole time,” he said.

“It took us too long to get that aid and frankly I think it’s important for your viewers to understand, a lot of concern about the number of children in our custody. I’ve been sounding the alarm for a long time on that.”

Army widow on Tunnel to Towers’ gift of a mortgage-free home: ‘It means everything’

An Army widow whose husband died in Iraq was given a mortgage-free home in New Jersey by the non-profit organization Tunnels to Towers.

“It means everything,” Stephanie Wildrick told “America’s Newsroom” host Bill Hemmer on Wednesday alongside the Tunnel to Towers CEO, Frank Siller.

Frank Siller founded Tunnel to Towers in honor of his brother Steven, who ran through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel on 9/11 with 60 pounds of gear and died trying to save New Yorkers in the Twin Towers.

Stephanie’s husband, Ronald H. Wildrick Jr., was killed by an IED while serving in Afghanistan in 2011. He left behind his loving wife and two daughters Kaylee and Leah.

“As an only parent, you worry about the future of your kids and not knowing if you’ll be able to afford your own home,” Stephanie said of her life after her husband’s death.

LUCIA SUAREZ SANG: I’M A PROUD (NEW) AMERICAN – AND THIS HAPPENED WHEN I SAID MY FIRST PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Frank Siller said that the Wildricks “paid a tremendous price,” and understood that although a home could never replace the loss of their beloved husband and father, he hoped it could take some of the financial burden off of Stephanie’s shoulders.

“Her husband gave his life for our freedom, independence and safety,” Siller said. “I think it’s important as a country we make sure we take care of these families left behind.”

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation, with the help of other organizations, frequently helps support families who have lost loved ones serving the country, as well as injured veterans. Last week, Siller announced that the Foundation was seeking donations to pay for a home for the family of Cpl. Jose ‘Speedy’ Espericueta, who was shot and killed in the line of duty in the border town of Mission, Texas.

HARRIS FAULKNER: THIS FOURTH OF JULY, LET’S SALUTE OUR MILITARY FAMILIES —  THEY SACRIFICE FOR OUR FREEDOM, TOO

Siller also said he’s reaching out to the families of nine Americans who lost their lives in Iraq, and five who died in Syria, in an attempt to make a difference in their lives as he did for the Wildricks.

During an emotional ceremony on Monday, the youngest Wildrick daughter, Leah, said she knew her father would be happy with the work Tunnels to Towers did for her family.

Netflix quietly yanked 66 episodes of Chelsea Handler’s failed talk show

Netflix quietly removed dozens of episodes of Chelsea Handler’s failed talk show, “Chelsea,” from its archives back in 2017– an unusual move that nobody seemed to notice until a Tuesday New York Times story about widespread talk-show issues for the streaming giant.

A Netflix spokesperson told Times that it had removed 66 “Chelsea” episodes in “the only instance of the company’s having scrubbed content that it owned and created,” chalking the decision up to making it easier for viewers to catch up on more recent episodes.

Netflix did not immediately respond to Fox News’ request for comment.

HANDLER NEEDS BREAK FROM ‘TOXIC NEWS CYCLE,’ WILL STAY INFORMED BY WATCHING JOY REID

Political comedian and host of “The No Things Considered” podcast Tim Young has a different theory on why Netflix may have vanished the trove of content.

“The far left rules what is politically correct and what is allowed constantly shifts for them, to show just how woke they are,” Young told Fox News. “Handler pushed the envelope to be funny at times, and Netflix may just be trying to cover up her old material to be in line with how woke they want to portray themselves as.”

Young said that “what was OK and funny” back in 2016 could suddenly be considered too politically incorrect at any moment, so it’s safer for the streaming service to remove simply old episodes of “Chelsea” before an issue pops up. According to the Times, the episodes were removed prior to the debut of its second season to provide “an easy way for viewers to catch up before the new episodes launched.”

But Netflix has not removed episodes of other original programs prior to the release of a new season.

CHELSEA HANDLER CALLS FOR TRUMP’S IMPEACHMENT FOR SAYING SEMI-AUTOMATIC GUNS ARE ‘ENTERTAINMENT’

“Chelsea” began its run in 2016 as a three-episode-per-week series. After mixed reviews and more politics than her fans were accustomed to, “Chelsea” returned for Season 2 as a weekly one-hour program until it was scrapped altogether. Handler initially said she would focus on political activism but she now hosts a podcast and continues to do stand-up comedy.

Handler is constantly mocking President Trump and members of his administration on Twitter. In recent memory she has questioned Sen. Lindsey Graham’s sexuality, mocked former Press Secretary Sarah Sanders’ appearance, blamed a tragic mass shooting on Republicans, attempted to prove Trump has syphilis, poked fun at first lady Melania Trump’s accent and attacked Ivanka Trump on a regular basis.

California Gov. Newsom reminds Nike his state is ‘open for business’ after Arizona pulled incentives over flag

California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Tuesday praised Nike for scrapping a sneaker release that featured a Betsy Ross flag and said his state was “open for business” following the controversy in Arizona.

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey announced his plan to withdraw incentives for Nike building a plant in Goodyear, prompting Newsom to make his own pitch to the apparel company.

“Hey, @Nike — we’re just a quick jaunt over the border,” Newsom, a Democrat, tweeted along with a screenshot of Ducey’s tweet urging the Arizona Commerce Authority to pull the incentives. “Thank you for doing the right thing. CA is open for business and welcomes those that represent the best of our American values.”

Ducey’s announcement came in a series of tweets after The Wall Street Journal reported that former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick urged Nike to nix the USA-themed sneaker over the flag’s alleged ties to slavery.

Nike planned to build a massive manufacturing plant in Goodyear, investing $184.5 million, according to ABC 15. The plant reportedly was going to create more than 500 jobs.

Goodyear agreed to waive nearly $1 million in planned review and permit fees to bring the plant into the city, The Arizona Republic reported. The city also planned to reimburse Nike $1 million for the jobs the company was set to create.

Baseball fans on Tuesday used #RIP45 on Twitter to pay tribute to Los Angeles Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs, who was found dead in his hotel room prior to his game against the Texas Rangers.

However, some on the social media network who saw the trend thought President Trump, the 45th president of the United States, had died while others took delight in that notion.

Many others objected to those who had hijacked the tribute thread to joke about the death of the president and used their own platform to strike back.

Skaggs, 27, was found unresponsive in his Texas hotel room, stunning the Major League Baseball community and leading to the postponement of Monday’s game between the Angels and Rangers.

The cause of death wasn’t immediately made known. Police said no foul play was suspected.

LOS ANGELES ANGELS PITCHER TYLER SKAGGS DEAD AT 27

Born in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Woodland Hills, Skaggs was a first-round draft pick of the Angels out of Santa Monica High School in 2009. The Angels traded Skaggs to Arizona in 2010, and he started his big-league career with 13 appearances over two seasons for the Diamondbacks. The Angels reacquired him in December 2013, and he had won 25 games over five seasons with the club.

Skaggs had been a regular in the Angels’ starting rotation since late 2016 when he returned from Tommy John surgery. He struggled with injuries repeatedly over the past three seasons but persevered to become a valuable starter in Los Angeles’ injury-plagued rotation. Skaggs started a career-high 24 games last season, going 8-10 with a 4.02 ERA. He missed playing time in April this season with a sprained ankle but came back strong.

Skaggs was part of the same Angels draft class as Trout, and they were roommates in the low minor leagues before Skaggs was traded to Arizona. They played on the same team in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 2010.

Skaggs’ mother, Debbie, was the longtime softball coach at Santa Monica High School. She famously provided postgame tips on his pitching mechanics, even deep into his big-league career.

Raymond Arroyo: American pride should never diminish

Westlake Legal Group 694940094001_6054934653001_6054931284001-vs Raymond Arroyo: American pride should never diminish Victor Garcia fox-news/us/personal-freedoms/proud-american fox-news/topic/fox-news-flash fox-news/shows/ingraham-angle fox-news/entertainment/media fox news fnc/politics fnc article 5a6d8d6e-3dd2-59b1-a756-584d5a13cf73

Fox News’ Raymond Arroyo guest hosted “The Ingraham Angle” Tuesday and gave a concise explanation on why pride in America has decreased in recent years and what America’s past will teach citizens as they approach the future.

“Obviously partisanship is accelerating this dwindling pride in the country and frankly it shouldn’t. No matter who’s elected president, no matter who’s calling the shots in Congress that should in no way disturb our love of country,” Arroyo said referencing a Gallup poll showing pride the country at an all time low.

GERALDO: ONLY REASON DEMS OBJECT TO JULy 4TH PARADE IS TRUMP ‘HATRED’

“The freedoms we enjoy, the prosperity all around us, the liberty that we too often take for granted. Part of our problem is there’s so little that unites us today.”

Arroyo criticized those that have disparaged the founders and history of America, claiming that these actions have eroded the one thing that united this diverse nation.

“This was a republic founded on an ideal not blood or race but an ideal of freedom and self governance. It was predicated on morality and common purpose. But over the last few decades we have run down the reputation of the founders, disparaged even the founding itself and strafed our own history. Today we’re fighting over Betsy Ross’ flag,” Arroyo said, referencing a Wall Street Journal report that former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick asked Nike to shelve a shoe featuring the Betsy Ross version of the American flag because it was racist.

The Fox Nation personality argued that scrutinizing history would only further divide the country.

“This self-loathing to this destructive cultural crusade to strike the memory of any individual that fails to measure up to the shifting mores of the day will only further divide us and hasten our forgetting of self,” Arroyo said.

“History is made by human beings who are by their nature flawed and broken and admit their failings are great lessons that cannot and should not be forgotten.”

Arroyo said that what makes us proud to be American is overcoming our shortcomings.

“We owe it to our children to offer them the whole American story the good, the bad, the sins and the glory. How else will they learn how to avoid in the future or to emulate. And what to be proud of as Americans,” Arroyo said.

Fareed Zakaria, the CNN anchor, on Sunday said it “pains” him to admit it, but President Trump was correct that the U.S. finds itself in a crisis with asylum system and the number of new arrivals.

The host of “Fareed Zakaria GPS,” was also critical of asylum rules that he called “vague, laxed and being gamed.” Zakaria said asylum was initially intended for a small number of people in the most extreme circumstances, not as a process of immigration in itself. He said the rules need to be “substantially tightened.”

He pointed out that “many” current asylum-seekers often have “suspiciously similar stories” and employ “identical phrases.”

“Democrats have spent most of their efforts on this topic, assailing the Trump administration for its heartlessness,” he said. “Fine. But that does not address the roots of this genuine crisis. If things continue to spiral downward and America’s southern border seems out of control, Trump’s tough rhetoric and hard-line stance will become increasingly attractive to the public.”

A  federal judge in Seattle on Tuesday blocked a Trump administration policy that would keep thousands of asylum-seekers locked up while they pursue their cases, saying the Constitution demands that such migrants have a chance to be released from custody.

Fox News’ Geraldo Rivera defended President Trump’s Fourth of July parade plans saying that the only reason anyone opposed the celebration is their “hatred” for the president.

“This is a symbol of the partisan toxic malignant atmosphere that we have in our country. When you see how Republicans feel about the country right now according to the surveys and the way that Democrats feel about the country now according to the surveys. It is amazing,” Rivera told guest host Dan Bongino on “Hannity.”

DEMS FUME AS TRUMP MOVES TO AMEND DC’S JULY 4 CELEBRATION, POSSIBLY ADDRESS THE NATION

“People on the left hates our president so much that they are willing to just put a negative spin on anything. How many times have you seen a flyover and an athletic event? Everybody loves them except for when President Trump is the one proposing them.”

Rivera said Trump had become a “synonym” for the country, argued that his visit to North Korea should be celebrated by everyone and told critics of the president to “get over themselves” and celebrate America’s Independence Day.

“The president went into North Korea, the first president ever. Everybody should be celebrating that but because this hatred of Donald Trump is so intense that he has become the synonym for the nation. I think it’s very distressing.  People should get over themselves,” Rivera said.

The correspondent-at-large told Bongino that veterans parades have great meaning.

“As a kid you watch those fourth of July parades, you get a tear in your eye watching the old veterans, the World War I guy and then the World War II guy,” Rivera said.

“It is a wonderful life affirming moments, and here we are making it a bunch of crap.”

Matt Schlapp: Bernie Sanders stands to ‘benefit’ if Biden continues to slip in polls

Bernie Sanders has a lot to gain in the 2020 Democratic presidential primary race if Joe Biden’s poll numbers continue to slip, according to Matt Schlapp.

While African-American voters continue to support Biden at the highest level of all other candidates, the former vice president and U.S. senator from Delaware still has a lot to lose, Schlapp said Tuesday on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle.”

“In most of these polls, it shows the number two pick of Biden voters is Bernie Sanders,” Schlapp, chairman of the American Conservative Union, told guest host Raymond Arroyo, referring to the U.S. senator from Vermont.

“So what you’re really seeing is potentially African-American or black voters getting behind Kamala [Harris] while Bernie will benefit from some other voters if Biden continues to have shaky performances.”

Schlapp attributed Biden’s slip in the polls to his debate performance last week.

In that debate, Sen. Harris, D-Calif., confronted Biden about comments he made about working with segregationist former Sens. Herman Talmadge, D-Ga., and James O. Eastland, D-Miss.

Schlapp claimed Harris’s exchange appeared to double as a way for Harris to gain some ground among African-American voters.

“To me… it seemed like at some point, one of these black candidates was going to stand up and have the moral voice to try to pull these voters back,” he said.

Arroyo pointed to recent polling from Quinnipiac University, which showed Biden holding 31 percent support among African-American voters, Harris with 27 percent, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., with 4 percent and South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg with zero.

Schlapp added he believed the nation’s economic performance under President Trump will ultimately unite voters no matter their racial or ethnic background.

“The idea that you have more economic opportunities is a big deal,” he said.
