Rep. Collins has long list of questions for Mueller: We’ll ask about ‘dark underbelly’ of Trump probe origins

Rep. Doug Collins said Wednesday on “America’s Newsroom” that he has a lengthy list of questions to ask former Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who has now agreed to testify next month before two House committees.

Collins, R-Ga., the ranking member on the Judiciary Committee, told Sandra Smith that his questions will center around how the investigation into the Trump campaign began in 2016, how Mueller chose his team of investigators and when Mueller’s team came to the conclusion that there was “no collusion or conspiracy” between the campaign and Russia.

“The list [of questions] is long and it will get longer,” said Collins, adding Mueller will now have to answer these key questions or “try to avoid” them.

REP. MATT GAETZ: I HOPE MUELLER SUBPOENA NOT PRECURSOR TO ‘IMPEACHMENT-BY-SURPRISE

Responding to the news in an exclusive interview on Fox Business Network, President Trump reiterated that the investigation itself did not find collusion, while complaining that Mueller and his team were biased against him.

“They got caught and they’re running around going wild trying to do everything they can, but they spied on my campaign, it’s as simple as that,” Trump said, referring to the probe’s origins at the FBI. “It’s so illegal, it’s probably the biggest political scandal in history and they got caught doing it.”

Collins emphasized that Mueller himself already said he would not go beyond what is stated in his report if he were called to testify in Congress. He also doubted that hearing from Mueller directly would help Democrats in their potential push toward impeachment.

“It’s gonna reinforce what the report said. Everybody has had a chance for two months to read this. It says what it says, it’s not gonna say anything different. What we’re gonna find out is the dark underbelly of the corrupt cabal that started it all,” he said.

Collins also called out Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., for not telling him about the committee’s subpoena to Mueller before it was issued, adding he found out about it on the news before hearing from Nadler.

“That’s the way my chairman tends to operate these days.”

Kilmeade on Robert Mueller testifying: It’s ‘back to the future,’ will be hyped ‘like Ali-Frazier’

The hosts of “Fox & Friends” reacted Wednesday morning to the news that former Special Counsel Robert Mueller will testify before two House committees next month, with host Brian Kilmeade calling it “back to the future.”

“We’re on the brink with Iran, the president is going to the G-20 to cut a major trade deal with a behemoth called China, we have a catastrophe at the border that both parties are desperately trying to solve while still staying in their political corners and now it’s back to the future with Robert Mueller. … People are talking about this as bigger than Ali-Frazier one,” he said, referring to the famed 1971 heavyweight boxing match.

Mueller agreed to appear before the House Judiciary and Intelligence Committees on July 17 after they subpoenaed the special counsel Tuesday, according to the committees’ chairmen, Reps. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., and Adam Schiff, D-Calif.

CHAD PERGRAM: MEDIA COVERAGE OF MUELLER TESTIMONY WILL BE ‘OFF THE RICHTER SCALE’

Congressional Democrats have fought to get access to Mueller and his unredacted report on Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and whether President Trump obstructed justice.

Mueller is expected to stick to the “four corners” of his report during the testimony and he said last month in rare remarks to the press that “the report is my testimony” and “I would not provide information beyond that which is already public in any appearance before Congress.”

Host Steve Doocy said Democrats are trying to “bolster their case” for impeachment, but questioned whether the testimony will “live up to the hype,” noting that Schiff already cautioned against setting “unrealistic expectations.”

Host Jedediah Bila said the media has hyped the Mueller probe for years, especially Trump-Russia collusion allegations and “basically had Trump convicted of a crime” before Mueller’s report was issued.

Bila highlighted Tuesday’s commentary by Rush Limbaugh, who blasted the mainstream media for hyping the Trump-Russia story as “the demise of our democracy.”

“Except none of it was true. … They’re not gonna be able to get rid of Trump, Trump is gonna be on the ballot in 2020. They failed,” he said.

Anderson Cooper says ‘stench’ is coming from federal immigration authorities over migrant detention facilities

CNN host Anderson Cooper said a “stench” is coming from federal immigration authorities over the handling of the migrants crossing the border.

Cooper made the comments Tuesday after Acting Customs and Border Protection Commissioner John Sanders’ resignation and the pressure on the Trump administration to improve the conditions of the migrant detention facilities.

“Some of the people responsible… compare the influx of migrants to a storm or flood or a tide, as if this all fell from the sky or rolled in from the sea,” he said.

“At the end of the day, though, this is not an act of God. These are people, poor people, young people and whatever you think about the case they may have for coming here, they are here.”

‘VIEW’ HOST JOY BEHAR USES SHOCKING COMMENT TO CRITICIZE MIGRANT CAMPS UNDER TRUMP

“They are now in custody here and those words in custody don’t just mean are being held, they mean in the care of, or as Webster’s has it, the act or process of preserving in safety, which is not what’s happening,” he added.”

The CNN host noted that the “stench” caused by subpar conditions in the facilities was actually coming from the authorities responsible for the situation.

“Most of the young detainees have not been able to shower or wash clothes since they arrived at the facility. Those who visited said they have no access to toothbrushes, toothpaste or soap. ‘There is a stench, said Elora Mukherjee, director of the Immigrants’ Rights Clinic at Columbia Law School, one of the lawyers who visited the facility. ’The overwhelming majority of children have not bathed since they crossed the border,’ she said,” Cooper said.

He added: “There is a stench, she said, speaking literally of human beings living worse than animals because animals at least have the means to clean themselves. She might have well been speaking figuratively of the stench coming from the places where the people responsible for all this are failing to take responsibility.”

The House approved a $4.5 billion supplemental spending bill on Tuesday night to address humanitarian issues at the U.S.-Mexico border and to provide additional funding for food, water, medical services and stronger protections for unaccompanied children, among other things.

The House bill, which passed 230-195, included specifics that would prevent the Trump administration from allowing any funding to go toward beefing up Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel at the border, likely to become a point of contention with Republicans.

Tomi Lahren on woman spitting on Eric Trump: Par for the course from the ‘loving and tolerant left’

Fox Nation host Tomi Lahren called out “the loving and tolerant left” after President Trump‘s son, Eric, said he was spat on by a worker at a Chicago cocktail bar.

“I walk around the city of New York and L.A. and I see pride, I see tolerance, I see love, but that same affection, love and tolerance is not given to conservatives. It’s funny how one-sided their love and tolerance is,” she said on “Fox & Friends.”

Lahren, who had water thrown on her at a Minnesota restaurant last year, said anger at a political figure “is one thing,” but a physical attack crosses the line.

“This has become par for the course. … A lot of those folks on the left, the loving and tolerant left, believe they have a moral obligation to attack, disparage and harass people who don’t think like they do,” Lahren argued.

After the incident, Eric Trump told Breitbart, “For a party that preaches tolerance, this once again demonstrates they have very little civility. When somebody is sick enough to resort to spitting on someone, it just emphasizes a sickness and desperation and the fact that we’re winning.”

Reports of the alleged assault were first reported by Mary Ann Ahern, a political reporter for NBC 5 Chicago. She said reports indicated that the incident occurred at the Aviary cocktail bar in the city.

She said the offender was in Secret Service custody. The Chicago Police Department confirmed that they were at the scene “assisting” the U.S. Secret Service.

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif, shed some light on the process of getting former Special Counsel Robert Mueller to testify before Congress, revealing Mueller made it “very clear” that he did not want to.

On Tuesday night, both Schiff and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler, D-NY, confirmed that Mueller will be testify public before both committees on July 17 in response to a subpoena made by the Democratic lawmakers.

Appearing on MSNBC, Schiff dismissed the characterization that Mueller was given a “friendly subpoena.”

“I don’t think the Special Counsel’s office would characterize it as a friendly subpoena. He did not want to testify. He made that very clear,” Schiff told MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow. “Nonetheless, they will respect the subpoena. He will appear. He’ll be testifying before our committee in open session. Each of our members will have an opportunity to ask questions of the Special Counsel. And the American people get a chance to hear directly from him and have their questions answered. So I think it’s a good result. July 17th is the date we expect him to appear.”

Schiff also confirmed that there would be a closed-door session following the public testimony.

Fox News host Laura Ingraham took a look at the Democrats’ top 2020 presidential candidates Tuesday night and reviewed some of the more debated promises and stumbles they’ve made ahead of this week’s scheduled debates in Florida.

Ingraham highlighted 2020 frontrunner Joe Biden, the former vice president and longtime U.S. senator from Delaware, and his recent racial controversy, his past comments on China and how his newfound wealth affects his image.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE FIRST 2020 DEMOCRATIC DEBATE

“[Biden] has often spoke of being one of the poorest members of Congress,” Ingraham said on “The Ingraham Angle.” But he’s cashed in hugely since he was VP, charging up to $200,000 a speech and racking up lucrative book deals.”

The host also took on Sens. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Bernie Sanders of Vermont for their campaign promises of free college, health care and day care.

“Although this may play well in the offices of MoveOn.org, whose members prefer Warren by 38 percent … average Americans are horrified particularly when they realize that they are going to get stuck with the giveaway bills,” Ingraham said.

Ingraham brought up South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg, who is currently facing a police shooting controversy that has sparked a racial divide in his city.

“If you can’t manage a kind of medium-sized police department, how will he possibly manage the entire executive branch?” Ingraham said.

According to Ingraham, Americans will soon begin to see the Democratic candidates take aim at each other as they seek to climb in the polls.

“In the coming days, the Dems, like it or not, their candidates are going to at least begin to smash each other. Maybe even savage each other in a desperate attempt to break from the pack,” Ingraham said.

The first Democratic primary debate is split, with events of 10 candidates each night scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday in Miami.

Media coverage of former Special Counsel Robert Mueller‘s upcoming testimony on Capitol Hill will “dwarf” that of past congressional hearings linked to the Russia investigation, Fox News’ Capitol Hill senior producer Chad Pergram predicted Tuesday.

“We’ve had some explosive hearings on Capitol Hill before,” Pergram said on “Hannity.” “You think of James Comey testifying, Jeff Sessions in the Senate a couple of years ago. You think about Michael Cohen in February. This will dwarf that. The pure magnitude of this will be off the Richter scale.”

Pergram also broke down the events that led to Mueller’s scheduled July 17 appearances before both the House judiciary and intelligence committees.

ROBERT MUELLER AGREES TO TESTIFY BEFORE HOUSE LAWMAKERS JULY 17 AFTER SUBPOENA, NADLER AND SCHIFF ANNOUNCE

“I’m told Bob Mueller would only appear if he was subpoenaed, and will stick to the ‘four corners’ of his report. That is what he said in a statement several weeks ago when they released the report. Of course, you can imagine Democrats wanting to get at him and see if there was distance between him and William Barr, the attorney general,” Pergram said, describing the subpoenas as “friendly.”

Pergram also predicted the probable line of questioning from House Republicans.

“They want to know the genesis of the Steele dossier, the [Lisa] Page and [Peter] Strzok text messages, one source said to me tonight, a Republican source. How many informants were on the campaign, and what were they looking at?” Pergram said.

Pergram also noted that if Mueller doesn’t adequately answer Republicans’ questions, they may say he is “not very credible.”

He also revealed the reasoning behind Nadler and Schiff arranging the testimony.

“They said “Americans have demanded to hear directly from the special counsel so they can understand what he and his team examined,” and that is why they want him to appear. That’s very key,” Pergram said.

Matt Gaetz: I hope Dems’ Mueller subpoena isn’t a precursor to ‘impeachment-by-surprise’

The subpoena of former Special Counsel Robert Mueller could be a warning of further congressional actions targeting President Trump, according to House Judiciary Committee member Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla.

There was little advance notice that House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler would subpoena Mueller on Tuesday, Gaetz claimed that evening on “Fox News @ Night.”

The subpoena of Mueller — by both the judiciary and intelligence committees — appears to be a boon to those House Democrats who seek further maneuvers against President Trump, Gaetz said.

“It was a week ago in the Judiciary Committee, and I asked Jerry Nadler whether he intended to subpoena Robert Mueller and he said he would not answer at that time,” Gaetz said.

ROBERT MUELLER AGREES TO TESTIFY BEFORE HOUSE LAWMAKERS JULY 17 AFTER SUBPOENA, NADLER AND SCHIFF ANNOUNCE

“So I hope we are not in store for ‘impeachment-by-surprise,’ as this seems to feed into the elements of the Democratic Party that are more focused on President Trump — and sort of relitigating the Mueller report — than in dealing with the humanitarian crisis at the border or dealing with many of the other challenges that I think a lot of swing-district Democrats would like to be working on at this time.”

Gaetz then urged his fellow Republicans to demand crucial answers from Mueller.

“I think we have legitimate questions about how all these people ended up on the Mueller team that had a history of donating financially to Democrats and there did not seem to be sufficient balance,” he said.

“If you’ve got bad ingredients going into a gumbo, then you’re going to get a bad gumbo,” the lawmaker from Pensacola added.

Congressional Democrats have fought to get access to Mueller and his unredacted report on Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and whether President Trump obstructed justice. Weeks of negotiations between House Democrats and the Justice Department ultimately ended with Tuesday’s subpoenas.

Fox News has learned Mueller would appear only under a subpoena, which has been described as a “friendly” subpoena, one that in essence had been planned. Mueller is expected to stick to the “four corners” of his report.

Fox News’ Louis Casiano contributed to this report.

Geraldo Rivera: Democrats will pay a ‘price’ for reviving Mueller report

Fox News’ Geraldo Rivera predicted Democrats will pay a “price” after it was announced Tuesday that former Special Counsel Robert Mueller will testify before two House committees.

In doing so, Rivera compared Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., and Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., to aging high school athletes.

“We are going back down memory lane,” Rivera said on Fox News’ “Hannity.” “Nadler and Schiff remind me of high school athletes. They graduated from high school and now nobody recognizes them. They are offended that they are outside the mainstream of public consciousness now. Nobody knows who they are or what they are doing.”

ROBERT MUELLER AGREES TO TESTIFY BEFORE HOUSE LAWMAKERS JULY 17 AFTER SUBPOENA, NADLER AND SCHIFF ANNOUNCE

“They have been forgotten, so they are desperately questing for attention, dragging back Robert Mueller.”

Mueller has agreed to testify before the House judiciary and intelligence committees on July 17 after both panels subpoenaed the former special counsel Tuesday, according to Nadler and Schiff.

Rivera said that Mueller will add nothing new to the Russia investigation discussion.

“Robert Mueller has already told them, in no uncertain terms, that his testimony will stick exactly to the Mueller report,” Rivera said.

Rivera also told host Sean Hannity that Democrats will “rue the day” they allowed Nadler and Schiff to revive Mueller and the Mueller report, elevating him once again into the news cycle.

“I think that the price that this testimony will cost the Democrats will be grievous to them,” Rivera said. “They will rue the day that Nadler and Schiff let their ambition get ahead of their common sense, their political science, and drag this man back into center stage of the American public.”
