Country music star Lee Greenwood was especially proud to be an American over the holiday weekend, after working with a nonprofit to provide a specialized home for an Afghanistan war veteran who lost his legs overseas.

Greenwood teamed up with Helping a Hero to provide wounded warrior Matt Deatherage with a home equipped for him to live independently, and the two men appeared on “Fox & Friends” on Monday to talk about the new house and the organization that made it happen.

Deatherage said he was “amazed” at his new home, and the hard work done by Helping a Hero to aid dozens of veterans like himself with special needs.

“Each of these veterans have their own issues to deal with,” Deatherage said. “Not everyone fits into a specific mold.” The Army veteran was deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan in 2010, and stepped on a land mine in March 2011 which resulted in the loss of both of his legs. Although he wears state-of-the-art prosthetics, he developed diabetes after his injury and now uses a wheelchair the majority of the time.

His new home is equipped with ramps and wide doors to accommodate his chair, as well as an exterior pathway so that he can get around outdoors.

Greenwood, best known for his iconic song “God Bless the U.S.A.,” said he felt particularly called to get involved with Helping a Hero. The organization has provided over 100 homes to veterans in 22 states, the singer said.

CNN does ‘disservice to voters’ by naming Don Lemon debate moderator, critic says

CNN announced on Monday that Don Lemon will follow in the footsteps of MSNBC’s far-left opinion host Rachel Maddow as a Democratic presidential primary debate moderator — and one critic called the decision a “disservice to voters all across the political spectrum.”

Lemon will join Dana Bash and Jake Tapper for the two-night event on July 30-31 from Detroit. Debate moderators are historically straight-news journalists, as opposed to partisan pundits, but CNN’s decision mirrors NBC’s strategy to allow Maddow to moderate last month’s Democratic Debate.

THIS IS CNN? PRIMETIME SHOWS FILLED WITH LIBERAL OPINION, NOT STRAIGHT NEWS AS NETWORK CLAIMS

The New York Times reportedly forbids its reporters from appearing on both Maddow and Lemon’s programs, because they are considered too partisan even for the Times – which is often criticized for leaning left itself.

Accuracy in Media national editor Carrie Sheffield thinks the Times’ reportedly pulling back its journalists from appearing on Lemon’s show because of concerns of bias “should be a wakeup call to” everyone involved and the CNN anchor “should be striving for greater balance to give voice to a wider swath” of the American electorate.

“This debate could well illustrate how Democrats’ constant embrace of divisive identity politics has created a deep fissure within our national culture that can only be solved by coming together and unifying around shared values,” Sheffield told Fox News. “We hope Mr. Lemon can use this occasion to embrace true diversity, which includes ideological diversity.”

The far-left Maddow was front and center during NBC’s technical-issue-plagued debate and conservatives critics condemned her performance. BlazeTV White House correspondent Jon Miller told Fox News that Maddow “served up questions about her favorite conspiracy theories” that were “unbefitting of a news organization.”

Now Lemon — who Trump once called “the dumbest man on television” — will apparently be prominent when CNN has a chance to grill 2020 hopefuls. While MSNBC admits that Maddow is an opinion host, CNN has continued to label Lemon an “anchor” despite spouting anti-Trump opinions on a regular basis.

HANNITY TO CNN BOSS: ‘YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF’ FOR LETTING DON LEMON MAKE HITLER COMPARISON

Media Research Center vice president Dan Gainor told Fox News that “if you didn’t know better, you’d figure Don Lemon was added to the debates for comedy relief,” before offering another theory.

“He says so many things that even liberals are embarrassed by him,” Gainor said. “But in reality, we know why he was chosen. He was picked so CNN can remind its audience of liberals that it is part of the resistance.”

“He was picked so CNN can remind its audience of liberals that it is part of the resistance.”

— Dan Gainor

CNN did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

In recent memory, Lemon has compared Trump to Adolf Hitler, then claimed he “didn’t mean” to compare the president and Hitler. He has also called Trump a “racist,” a “fraud,” “con man,” questioned whether or not the State of the Union should air on a delay to avoid “propaganda,” declared that he wouldn’t shake the president’s hand and questioned Trump’s mental fitness.

Conservative strategist Chris Barron told Fox News that CNN’s decision is “a disservice to voters all across the political spectrum” because Lemon is so open about his own views.

“They are more interested in the political version of a church revival than an actual debate,” Barron said.

Lemon has also suggested Trump doesn’t do enough work, speculated on whether or not the president lies about his weight, tied Trump to the college admissions cheating scheme and took a shot at Trump as he was giving his colleague Chris Cuomo a brief tour of his new studio, suggesting that the president can’t afford such a lavish space since he isn’t a “real billionaire.”

Lemon initially gained broadcasting prominence as a news anchor, covering breaking news and reporting from the scene of major stories, but DePauw University professor and media critic Jeffrey McCall recently told Fox News that Lemon is no longer a news anchor in the traditional sense because of his partisan rhetoric.

CNN’S DON LEMON DOESN’T LET ‘ANCHOR’ TITLE GET IN THE WAY OF HIS ON-AIR OPINIONS

“He is a host of an opinion-driven show in which his opinions are front and center. Thus, he is a host rather than a news anchor,” McCall said. “His show does discuss news topics, but it is not designed as an objective news show.”

Lemon also has a history with some of the candidates expected to be on the debate stage, as he famously lobbed a softball by asking Cory Booker what it’s like being a vegan during a CNN town hall event. He was also criticized for pondering aloud whether or not Kamala Harris is African-American.

One certainty is that Lemon wasn’t selected to lift the debate’s viewership totals. Lemon’s “CNN Tonight” finished the second quarter of 2019 as the No. 35 most-watched show on cable news, averaging only 705,000 viewers.

Former Virginia congressman Scott Taylor announced Monday on “Fox & Friends” that he will run for the U.S. Senate seat held by Democrat Mark Warner.

Taylor, a former Navy SEAL, served in the House of Representatives for one term before being defeated by Democrat Elaine Luria last November.

Taylor said Virginians want a “leadership change” and said “12 years is enough” for Warner, the chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee who was outspoken in his accusations of Trump-Russia collusion.

NEW REPORT SAYS A CONGRESSWOMAN IS SECRETLY SENDING HER STAFF TO MEXICO TO HELP ASYLUM SEEKERS FIND LOOPHOLES

“We have a leadership crisis in Virginia. Washington is broken. We need a fresh start in the Senate,” he said, calling out Warner, D-Va., for falsely claiming President Trump was guilty of “traitorous activity” with Russia.

The Iraq War veteran touted his ability to work across the aisle while he was in the House, saying each bill he introduced had a Democrat co-sponsor.

Republicans were soundly defeated in Virginia in 2018, with Democrats flipping three House seats — including Taylor’s — and Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine winning re-election by 16 points over Republican challenger Corey Stewart.

Taylor was clear-eyed about the challenge he faces to unseat Warner in 2020.

“We are underdogs, there’s no question. As you know, we the people have been taking left hooks for years and years and years and we might hit the canvas, but we’re gonna get back up, dust our knees off and move forward,” he said.

Some Democrats are beginning to use terminology popular with conservatives in order to highlight their policies, according to pollster Frank Luntz.

Republicans must create a cogent message to combat this new trend if they want to win in future elections, Luntz claimed Friday on “The Ingraham Angle.”

“My concern is that the Democrats are using — sometimes — language of the right as a way to push policies of the left,” he said.

“And conservatives have to be careful about that. You use softer, gentler, kinder words to push things that are about either government control or government giveaways, and the conservatives need to have a message — they need to have an answer to that.”

TRUMP DEFIES OMINOUS PREDICTIONS WITH NONPARTISAN JULY 4TH SALUTE TO AMERICAN SPIRIT

Luntz was reacting to a montage of 2020 Democratic candidates claiming health care is a “human right.”

To that extent, Ingraham added a conservative analyst once explained, if something “is a human right, you don’t have to debate it anymore.”

“So, if it’s a ‘human right,’ there’s no debate, you have to give it to them,” she added, characterizing the idea.

Luntz agreed, adding if someone is against certain policy proposals in that regard they can be painted as, “cruel and inhumane.”

In regard to the idea of Medicare-for-all, Fox News medical contributor Dr. Marc Siegel claimed recently on “Fox & Friends” the platform will not resonate with voters in the end.

Voters will turn away from candidates pushing the idea in the end and claims the plan will improve access to quality health care are unfounded, Siegel said last month.

“I think it’s a campaign slogan. I don’t think it’s ever going to happen. They will self-destruct by getting behind it,” he claimed.

“I can’t believe they are making it a campaign issue. It’s so unpopular.”

Fox News’sJuan Williams says former Vice President Joe Biden is in “big trouble” after the Democratic presidential frontrunner said he was wasn’t ready for Sen. Kamala Harris‘ attacks during last week’s debate.

“He gave the impression he wasn’t ready to be challenged. … If that’s true, boy, that’s big trouble. He should have known as the frontrunner, there were long knives ready for him,” Williams said on “The Five.”

In an interview with CNN, Biden told host Chris Cuomo that he “wasn’t prepared” for Harris’ attack.

“I was prepared for them to come after me, but I wasn’t prepared for the person coming at me the way she came at me. She knew Beau [Biden] and she knows me,” Biden told CNN.

Williams praised the California senator for her performance.

“That’s how other people are going to rise and challenge him as the frontrunner and that’s exactly what Kamala Harris did, she took command of the stage and that’s the reasons we have seen her jump ahead in the polls,” Williams said.

Trump’s opinion on UFOs: Nope — but you never know

Does President Trump believe the truth is out there?

Apparently not.

During an interview with Fox News’ Tucker Carlson, Trump, who has all our information about extraterrestrials and UFOs at his disposal, said he isn’t convinced UFOs exist.

But he’s keeping an open mind.

UFOS REMAIN ELUSIVE DESPITE DECADES OF STUDY

“Well, I don’t want to really get into it too much.  But personally, I tend to doubt it,” he told Carlson. “I’m not a believer, but you know, I guess anything is possible.”

Carlson was pressing the president on a recent briefing he had regarding the Navy pilots who reported seeing “strange objects” flying at hypersonic speeds and emitting “no visible engine or infrared exhaust plumes.” Last week, the Defense Department also held a briefing with Senate Intelligence Committee Vice Chairman Mark Warner, D-Va., as well as two other senators as part of an apparent effort to communicate with politicians about naval encounters with unidentified aircraft.

“I mean, you have people that swear by it, right?” Trump mused.

“And pilots have come in and they said — and these are pilots that have — not pilots that are into that particular world, but we have had people saying that they’ve seen things.”

Carlson also asked the president about a claim made by a government official who said U.S. is in possession of UFO wreckage at a facility on an Air Force Base. Trump said he hadn’t heard about it but had seen the story covered on Carlson’s show.

“I don’t assume it’s correct.  But, I have an open mind, Tucker,” he continued.

Some lawmakers’ continued criticism of the Border Patrol and its activities is taking a toll on agents’ morale, according to Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz.

There are likely some problematic agents in the force, but the large majority do their jobs efficiently and compassionately, Biggs told Neil Cavuto on “Your World.”

“They’re working hard,” he said.

“I think they’re being unfairly castigated by the other side.

OPINION: TOM HOMAN SAYS BORDER PATROL WILL DO ITS JOB AS DEMS LOB SMEARS AND SHIRK DOING THEIRS

“You’ve got almost 17,000 agents and working personnel in the border patrol. Quite frankly, I’d be surprised if you didn’t have a few bad eggs in that large of a number.”

He said he believed agent morale has been lower than normal for several years.

“Already, morale was down because under the Obama administration, Border Patrol was the only Homeland Security agency that had their pay cut,” he said.

“They haven’t got that back yet. They’re dealing with really overcrowded conditions.”

Biggs claimed Congress is not doing what is required to allow the Border Patrol to do its job effectively.

Writing for Fox News Opinion, former acting ICE Director Thomas Homan echoed Biggs’ sentiment when it comes to the difficulty of the agents’ jobs.

“The Border Patrol has a very proud tradition with one of the toughest training academies in law enforcement,” he wrote.

“Not only do you have to learn Constitutional Law and a very complex Immigration and Naturalization Law, but you also have to learn all the things that will make you a premier federal law enforcement officer: high-speed driving, search and arrest techniques, firearms proficiency, and self-defense.”

Byron York says Trump’s July 4th ‘Salute’ exposed contrast between event, critics’ predictions

President Trump exposed the contrast between pundits’ negative predictions about his “Salute to America” event and how the speech played out, according to Byron York.

Fears of the militarization of Independence Day and comparisons to authoritarian leaders’ shows of force fell flat, York claimed Friday on “America’s Newsroom.”

“Has there ever been a bigger contrast between the commentary and predictions before an event and then the event itself?” he asked.

“Before the event, we had some of the president’s opponents saying that it would be a dangerous militarization of the Fourth of July. Or a dangerous politicization of the Fourth of July.”

York mentioned how a “very prominent commentator said he saw signs of another Tiananmen Square coming,” in an apparent reference to a tweet from Harvard law professor Laurence Tribe.

“The resemblance to days before Tiananmen Square is chilling,” Tribe wrote, reacting to the arrival of tanks in Washington.

Moreover, several local politicians offered critical commentary in the run-up to the event.

Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser, a Democrat, said on MSNBC she hoped “that we never see this spectacle of our military force being on display as a show of force to our own people.”

Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton, D-D.C., said tanks should not be rolling in her city.

In another interview, Rep. Don Beyer, D-Va. — who represents neighboring Alexandria — claimed Trump “must be the most insecure man I’ve ever seen.”

Former Vice President Joe Biden, the current 2020 Democratic presidential frontrunner, claimed Trump “is incapable of celebrating what makes America great because I don’t think he gets it.”

Fellow 2020 contender Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y. characterized the event as “a parade for himself and tanks for himself.”

In his interview on “America’s Newsroom,” York added after the event concluded, it was “unremarkable” in comparison to what critics expected.

“The president paid tribute to the U.S. military services, each branch of the services, and paid tribute to lots of other Americans and basically steered clear of politics,” he said.

Critics of President Trump’s planned “Salute to America” celebration are letting their disdain for the Republican get in the way of celebrating the Fourth of July, according to the president’s reelection campaign spokeswoman.

There is no reason to object to the president’s Thursday evening celebration at the Lincoln Memorial, Trump 2020 national press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said Wednesday on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle.”

“Let’s be clear what this is about,” she said. “Their hate for President Trump is clouding their love for this country. This is a ‘Salute to America.’

TANKS ARRIVE IN DC AS TRUMP CONFIRMS JULY FOURTH CELEBRATION WILL FEATURE MILITARY DISPLAY

“Leave it to the left to be unpatriotic the day before and day of the Fourth of July.”

In a montage played by guest host Tammy Bruce, Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser, a Democrat, said on MSNBC she hoped, “that we never see this spectacle of our military force being on display as a show of force to our own people.”

Rep. Don Beyer, D-Va., who represents neighboring Alexandria, claimed Trump, “must be the most insecure man I’ve ever seen.”

In another interview, Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton, D-D.C., said tanks should not be rolling in her city.

Earlier this week, an Associated Press photographer spotted the two M1A1 Abrams tanks, along with four other military vehicles, in a railyard at the southeastern edge of Washington. A military official earlier told the AP that the tanks were transported north from Fort Stewart in Georgia.

The vehicles include M1A1 Abrams tanks, the type currently used by American armed forces, as well as Sherman tanks, the kind commonly used during World War II, according to the president. Having tanks rolling down the streets of D.C. had raised concerns due to their weight, with the Abrams tanks weighing upwards of 60 tons each. Trump acknowledged these concerns Monday, without offering many details.
