Trump 2020 press secretary: Alyssa Milano ‘doesn’t matter’

Trump 2020 national press secretary Kayleigh McEnany lashed out at actress and activist Alyssa Milano on Friday, saying that everyday women “tune out” the Trump critic and that Hollywood’s opinions on political issues are irrelevant.

“Hollywood doesn’t matter. In fact, if anything it’s a curse for a candidate because everyday hardworking men and women look and say, ‘Alyssa Milano is going to tell me what to do?’,” McEnany said on “Hannity.”

MSNBC HOSTS CLASH AFTER ONE SAYS NOBODY ON STAGE COULD BEAT TRUMP

“This is the woman who said that women should have a sex strike because of a fetal heartbeat bill that says you keep a living baby with a heartbeat alive,” McEnany continued. “And because of that bill women everywhere should have a sex strike.”

McEnany added that Milano “doesn’t matter” and begged the actress to support the eventual Democratic nominee.

“Everyday women tune her out. She doesn’t matter. Nor does Hollywood. They are a joke. Please endorse the Democratic nominee as I’m sure they will,” McEnany said.

The press secretary for the Trump campaign also weighed in on the Democratic presidential candidates’ support of abortion rights — in particular late-term abortion. She asserted that the Democrats were out of step with Americans.

“This motivates the Republican base immensely,” she said. “But more than that, it motivates 85 percent of Americans. When you look at who supports abortion until birth — which was passed in New York and celebrated with a sick standing ovation in the New York Senate chamber and they lit One World Trade pink in celebration.

“When you look who supports this insane measure to kill a fully viable baby, it’s about 15 percent or less. So they are motivating 85 percent of the American people when they do things like 19 times blocking a vote in the House for a keep-alive bill, keeping a baby alive outside the womb.”

The decision by Sen. Kamala Harris to attack former Vice President Joe Biden over school busing during Thursday’s Democratic Party debate could hurt the party heading into 2020, according to Dennis Kucinich.

“Joe Biden’s record is fair game,” the two-time Democratic presidential candidate said Friday on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle.” “But if you divide Democrats on race, you lose.”

“You divide and Trump conquers,” added Kucinich, 72, a former mayor of Cleveland who later served in the U.S. House from 1997 to 2013.

“If you want African-Americans to vote, have a plan — address racial disparity, wealth, wages, health. Talk about working-poor families. Look at the crime and the murder rate in black communities and how people are treated by the police. These are issues that will motivate people.

“But if you just use it on race in kind of a personal attack, Democrats are going to lose.”

Kucinich said he believed, however, that Biden remained a formidable candidate.

“He seems to have strong support in the black community,” he said. “I don’t think that will disintegrate.”

During the debate, Harris appeared to inflict serious damage on Biden after she pointed out that Biden’s work with segregationist senators had a human cost – including to her.

“I also believe — and it is personal — and it was actually very hurtful to hear you talk about the reputations of two United States senators who built their reputations and career on the segregation of race in this country,” she said.

“You worked with them to oppose busing,” Harris added, referring to efforts to limit orders for school desegregation by busing.

In an emotional moment, she told her own story of being bused as a young girl in California.

Matt Gaetz says probe of tweet about Michael Cohen shows Dems’ ‘double standard’

A House Ethics Committee probe into Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., stemming from a tweet about former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen exposes a double standard, according to the Republican lawmaker.

Gaetz told Martha MacCallum on Friday on “The Story” that he stands by comments made on a March 1 appearance on the Fox News program — in which he apologized to Cohen and his family.

“I want to say publicly what I’ve said privately to Michael Cohen and to his family, that I’m sorry,” he said at the time.

“It’s entirely appropriate to test the truthfulness of a witness, but that could’ve been done in a way that didn’t invoke someone’s family, and I shouldn’t have done it.”

REP. MATT GAETZ APOLOGIZES FOR TWEET SUGGESTING MICHAEL COHEN HAS ‘GIRLFRIENDS’

In comments to MacCallum Friday, the lawmaker claimed there has been “no finding that I’ve done anything wrong.”

“I stand by the comments I made on your show. But it really highlights the double standard that exists with today’s left.”

Gaetz pointed to two Democratic lawmakers who he claimed made fiery remarks in the past that didn’t lead to a congressional probe.

“We’ve got members of Congress — Maxine Waters actually incited violence against Republicans and supporters of the president,” he claimed.

“We had Rashida Tlaib … using profanity to talk about how she was going to impeach the president.

REP. MATT GAETZ REGRETS ‘INVOKING’ MICHAEL COHEN’S FAMILY IN TWEET, SAYS HE’S ‘SORRY’

“I guess when a Republican says something that might go a little over the line,” he said, “it might be treated a little differently.”

The Florida lawmaker added he believed there are better things for the Democrat-led House to focus on.

“I’m worried about the 5,500 people that show up at our border every day,” he said. “I worry about the fact that we haven’t changed our asylum laws,” he added, calling on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to hold a vote on the USMCA trade deal.

MacCallum pressed Gaetz on the tweet, and whether he was “threatening a witness the night before he was about to testify.”

She pointed to bipartisan criticism at the time from Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla. and Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif.

FLORIDA BAR OPENS INVESTIGATION INTO REP. GAETZ’S TWEET ABOUT MICHAEL COHEN

Gaetz responded, considering whether his support for President Trump played a factor in the committee’s decision.

“There very well may be a coordinated effort to go after people like me, people like Kellyanne Conway, who are effective advocates for a transformational president,” he said, referring to the White House counselor who’s been accused of violating the Hatch Act.

Gaetz has since deleted the original tweet directed at Cohen, in which he wrote: “Do your wife & father-in-law know about your girlfriends? Maybe tonight would be a good time for that chat. I wonder if she’ll remain faithful when you’re in prison. She’s about to learn a lot…”

The tweet was sent on the eve of testimony from Cohen, Trump’s former attorney, on Capitol Hill.

In a statement released Friday, House Ethics Committee Chairman Ted Deutch, R-Fla. and ranking member Kenny Marchant, R-Texas, said they’d established a subcommittee to review the incident.

“On March 13, 2019, the committee received a member complaint against Rep. Matt Gaetz,” the statement read. “The committee then began a review … into allegations that Representative Gaetz sought to threaten, intimidate, harass or otherwise improperly influence the president’s former attorney, Michael Cohen, in connection with Mr. Cohen’s testimony before a congressional committee.”

In May, Gaetz declined a request to appear for an in-person interview, according to the committee’s statement.

The subcommittee will be chaired by Rep. Anthony Brown, D-Md., with Rep. Michael Guest, R-Texas, serving as ranking member.

“The committee notes that the mere fact of establishing an investigative subcommittee does not itself indicate that any violation has occurred,” the statement read.

Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., appears to be losing traction to another progressive running in 2020, according to Juan Williams.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., seems to be increasing in popularity and taking Sanders’ place in the conversation, Williams claimed Friday on “The Five.”

“She’s been leap-frogging him,” Williams said of Warren.

“I think these two nights really seal that that it’s her moment. She’s got that lane in terms of left-wing Democratic Party politics.

He added Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., did not look comfortable on the dais Thursday.

“When you look at someone like Swalwell, I think he looked stiff,” he said.

Williams added the Democratic presidential primary field is overall very unwieldy.

“I think the field is too big,” he said.

“So you get people who shouldn’t be on the stage.”

For his part, Sanders verbally swiped at Swalwell following Thursday’s debate, after the California Democrat told former Vice President Joe Biden to “pass the torch” to a younger generation of candidates.

Following the debate, Sanders was asked about the “generational argument” that is being made by folks like Swalwell.

“I think that’s kind of ageism to tell you the truth,” Sanders responded.

“And I think what we’re trying to do and all of us are trying to do is to end discrimination in this country against women, against minorities, against the LGBT community, and I think ageism as well.”

The co-hosts of “The View” had some harsh criticisms for former Vice President Joe Biden over his response to attacks from Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif, during Thursday night’s Democratic presidential debate.

One of the biggest highlights from the first round of debates this week was when Harris challenged Biden’s remarks about segregationists he had worked with in the Senate as well as his record on busing, something she had experienced as a child.

Joy Behar kicked off the conversation by saying it was “clear” that Harris “is not running for vice president” and that she’s actually “running for president,” later adding that a “Biden-Kamala ticket” is a “winning ticket.”

DAVID AXELROD SLAMS BIDEN POST-DEBATE, SAYS HE SEEMED ‘CONFUSED”

“If there’s a ticket, it’s the Kamala-Biden ticket,” co-host Sunny Hostin responded.

“I would take it either way, frankly,” Behar said.

Guest host Ana Navarro shared her experience attending the debates in Miami and how an “audible gasp” could be heard in the room during the fiery exchange.

“Job Biden looked so gobsmacked and sad, I almost felt like going on stage and squeezing his shoulders,” Navarro quipped. “Last night, he got a rude awakening. He’s going to have to engage because you had [Rep. Eric] Swalwell telling him to ‘pass the torch’ and you have Kamala torching him!”

Hostin dinged the Democratic front-runner for not being prepared for the “pre-planned attack” from Harris, pointing to her tweet hinting that she would confront him on busing.

“What I think this country needed to see is that a woman can stand toe-to-toe with Donald Trump on a debate stage and eviscerate him,” Hostin told her co-hosts. “She gave us that moment. I am clear in my mind that she can him on.”

Fox News contributor Sol Wisenberg said Friday that Sen. Bernie Sanders‘ idea for rotating Supreme Court justices would be “unconstitutional.”

During Thursday’s Democratic presidential debate, the Vermont independent said the current makeup of the court is “terrible” after the additions of Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh, but that he doesn’t believe in “packing the court.”

“I do believe constitutionally we have the power to rotate judges to other courts and that brings in new blood into the Supreme Court and a majority, I hope, that will understand that a woman has a right to control her own body and that corporations cannot run the United States of America,” he said.

Sanders’ bizarre pitch was quickly criticized by many in the legal community.

Responding on “America’s Newsroom,” Wisenberg – a lawyer and former Deputy Independent Counsel in the Whitewater/Lewinsky Investigation – called the proposal “idiocy.”

“It would be totally unconstitutional,” he said, adding that “packing” the court by expanding it to include more justices would not be unconstitutional, though it’s still a “radical idea.”

Jimmy Carter says investigation would show Trump didn’t win 2016 election: He’s in office ‘because Russians interfered’

Former President Jimmy Carter questioned Friday whether President Trump legitimately won the 2016 election over Hillary Clinton, arguing Trump is only in office because “the Russians interfered.”

The 94-year-old Democrat was speaking at a Virginia forum moderated by presidential biographer Jon Meacham, who asked how the U.S. should “deal with Russia” interfering in the country’s ability to have “free and fair elections.”

Carter answered by calling on Trump to acknowledge the interference and “condemn it”

“I think a full investigation would show that Trump didn’t actually win the election in 2016. He lost the election, and he was put into office because the Russians interfered on his behalf,” he said at the Carter Center event.

Meacham followed up by asking Carter if he was characterizing Trump as an “illegitimate president.” Carter sat silently for a few seconds as the crowd laughed before responding: “Basically, what I just said, which I can’t retract.”

Carter’s comments came on the heels of Trump meeting face-to-face with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the G-20 Summit in Japan, where he was criticized for jokingly telling Putin not to “meddle” in the upcoming election.

Trump, who was seated next to Putin, was asked by a reporter if he would tell “the Russian president to not meddle in the election.” There was some cross talk in the room at the time.

Trump, without looking at Putin, responded, “Of course I will. Don’t meddle in the election, president. Don’t meddle in the election.”

Trump’s tone and delivery were immediately called out. The AP ran a headline, “Trump Jokes to Putin: Don’t Meddle in the Election.”

The report said his tone was “open to interpretation but would seem to do little to silence questions about Trump’s relationship with Russia in the aftermath of special counsel Robert Mueller’s conclusion that his campaign did not collude with Russia in 2016.”

Jon Voight responds to Alyssa Milano attack: ‘Ignorance doesn’t scare me’

Actor Jon Voight spoke Friday on “Fox & Friends” about attending the Rally for Freedom alongside Gold Star families on July 4th and he responded to a recent tweet from actress Alyssa Milano.

Voight, a vocal supporter of President Trump, was on the show alongside Gold Star mom Karen Vaughn, who lost her son, Navy SEAL Aaron Carson, in 2011.

Voight was read a tweet by Milano in which she called him an “F-lister” and a “has been” in response to him praising President Trump.

The Academy Award winner said he was part of the anti-war left during the 1960s, but later discovered the “truth” and changed his political ways.

“I have sympathy with people that are in ignorance. It doesn’t scare me. Ignorance doesn’t scare me. I was like that myself. I just root for everybody to come to the truth,” he said.

The Rally for Freedom will take place at 10 a.m. ET on Independence Day on Section 10 of the U.S. Capitol lawn. The event’s organizers have said it is meant to stand for freedom and oppose the radical socialist policies being pushed by some members of Congress.

Vaughn said the Gold Star families were also offered VIP access to the president’s “Salute to America” event on the night of July 4th at the Lincoln Memorial, which she said will be “the largest celebration of Independence Day in our nation’s history.”

Overall, Vaughn said the rally is meant to show support to Gold Star families and she intends to spread the message in favor of Trump before next year’s election.

“He is rebuilding the nation my son gave his life for. I feel like our country was rescued in November of 2016 from I don’t even know what, and I will fight with my last breath to get him re-elected in 2020,” she said.

Voight agreed, calling socialism a “disaster” and lamenting that young people are being “indoctrinated” in schools and don’t fully understand the perils of socialist policies.

“If they knew anything about the Second World War, they’d know that socialism is a disaster. It’s never produced anything anywhere in the world. It’s an economic sinkhole, but it also produces nothing but misery and violence.”

Van Jones says Biden’s response to Kamala Harris on working with segregationists was ‘heartbreaking’

CNN commentator Van Jones said former Vice President Joe Biden “took the heart out of the civil rights movement” after defending state rights and failing to apologize during the Democratic debate for working with segregationists in the Senate.

Jones went after Biden after he defended his work with segregationists and busing policies during a heated exchange with Sen. Kamala Harris, who took the lead in attacking him.

‘MY TIME’S UP, I’M SORRY’: BIDEN ABRUPTLY ENDS ANSWER ON CIVIL RIGHTS RECORD AFTER HARRIS PUMMELING

“Let me say as an African-American, why that was just unacceptable. That very argument was the argument that was used that the federal government should leave us,” Jones said on CNN.

“Let me say as an African-American, why that was just unacceptable … he just took the heart out of the civil rights movement with that argument.”

“So he just took the heart out of the civil rights movement with that argument. Our plea was that we are one, the Constitution applies to all of us, and we want the federal government to stand with us and against the local racists.”

He added that it was “heartbreaking” that Biden didn’t apologize for touting his work with avowed segregationist Democrats during his time in the Senate.

“My heart breaks about it at a personal level because all he had to do was say: ‘you know what? I think I was wrong there.’ If he had just said, ‘you know what, Kamala? I think I was wrong then, and I’ve learned something, and I’ve learned something from talking to people like you,” he said. “It was a heartbreaking moment.”

BIDEN CAMPAIGN DEFENDS FORMER VP AFTER DEBATE, CALLS CIVIL RIGHTS RECORD ‘UNASSAILABLE’

Harris called out Biden on the debate stage, saying that “it was actually very hurtful to hear you talk about the reputations of two United States senators who built their reputations and career on the segregation of race in this country.”

“You worked with them to oppose busing,” Harris added, referring to efforts to limit orders for school desegregation by busing. In an emotional moment, she told her own story of being bussed as a little girl in California.

Biden defended himself, saying that her comments about his record were a “mischaracterization of my position across the board,” and that he “did not praise racists.”

“I ran because of civil rights,” Biden said, noting that he worked as a public defender after the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. in 1968. “I continue to believe we need to make fundamental change.”

He then abruptly stopped talking about the issue, somewhat conceding the attack line. “Anyway,” he said, “my time’s up, I’m sorry.”
