John Cusack blames ‘bot’ after being accused of sharing anti-Semitic tweet

Actor John Cusack is facing backlash for a tweet critics are calling anti-Semitic, which he later blamed on a “bot.”

In a screenshot shared by journalist Yashar Ali on Monday, Cusack shared a cartoon writing, “follow the money.” The cartoon shows a hand with a Star of David pushing down a group of people along with a Voltaire quote saying, “To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize.” The tweet has since been deleted.

Shortly after the tweet was deleted, the “Say Anything” star explained to his followers that he was reacting to “pro Palestinian justice” and that a “bot” was to blame for the post.

“A bot got me,” Cusack tweeted. “I thought I was endorsing a pro Palestinian justice retweet – of an earlier post – it came I think from a different source – Shouldn’t Have retweeted.”

His tweets didn’t stop the growing backlash. Many also blasted his tweets blaming the “bot,” which critics called “absurd.”

Ali, one of the first to respond to the tweet, wrote: “This is disgusting.” In a later tweet, the freelance reporter added: “His bot excuse is absurd.”

The actor continued to try to explain the tweet, prompting one person to write: “John, just stop. Good god.”

Fox News contacted Cusack for comment.

Larry Wilmore: White comedians were too ‘afraid’ to mock President Barack Obama

Comedian Larry Wilmore knocked his white peers for being too “afraid” of mocking former President Barack Obama when he was in office.

On the latest episode of “The Ben Shapiro Show: Sunday Special,”  Shapiro sat down with Wilmore and discussed how the political climate has impacted modern comedy. Shapiro began by pointing out how “one-sided” late-night comedians have been and that “no one made a joke about Barack Obama for eight years.”

“Now that I agree with you,” Wilmore responded. “I felt that white comedians, definitely on the left, were definitely afraid of making the wrong joke about Obama.

“And when they did make jokes about Obama, they were flattering jokes, you know? Like, nobody really made real observational jokes about Obama, and that’s why the impressions of Obama weren’t that good because no one was making really good observations about him.”

Wilmore, a former Comedy Central host who emceed a White House Correspondents Dinner under President Obama later added that people were “so precious” with Obama and told Shapiro that there is a “Jon Stewart effect” on comedians since he was a trailblazer for political comedy and that the market also drives the late-night content.

He did, however, praise “Saturday Night Live” for “really trying to poke holes at both sides” of the aisle.

Wilmore’s comments came as one of his former colleagues became the latest media figure to back an impeachment push against Trump.

During Sunday’s episode of his show, “Last Week Tonight,” John Oliver went on a 20-minute rant while stopping to explain the mathematics and logistics behind removing Trump from power.

Oliver claimed Trump committed an impeachable offense when he contemplated removing special counsel Robert Mueller, but remained skeptical about any concrete action being taken against him.

A Broadway depiction of former President Bill Clinton and former First Lady Hillary Clinton will be ending its run early due to underwhelming ticket sales.

The production of “Hillary and Clinton” was scheduled to close July 21, but producer Scott Rudin announced Monday that its final performance will be held Sunday. June 23. The play cost $4.2 million to produce and accumulated only $4.7 million at the box office, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The show, titled “Hillary and Clinton,” takes place in March 2008 and offers a fictional behind-the-scenes look at the former secretary of state’s first presidential campaign as then-Senator Barack Obama began gaining momentum. The play stars Tony winners Laurie Metcalf as the Democratic candidate and John Lithgow as former President Bill Clinton.

Metcalf was nominated for her lead performance at this year’s Tony Awards, but lost to Elaine May in “The Waverly Gallery.”

The play premiered in Chicago in 2016 with an entirely different cast. It premiered on Broadway in April 2019 at the John Golden Theatre. Playwright Lucas Hnath described his production as “a play about the Clintons that’s not a play about the Clintons.”

The cast also featured Zak Orth as former Clinton pollster Mark Penn and Peter Francis James as Barack Obama — referred to in the play as “The Other Guy.”

The early curtain call comes after Hillary and Bill’s national tour also struggled to find an audience this year, with some tickets for the 13-city event selling at more than 50 percent off.

Michael Cohen wanted Trump 2016 announcement to feature ‘elephants and women in bikinis:’ report

It could have been the greatest show on Fifth Avenue.

According to a new report in The Washington Post, ex-confidant Michael Cohen wanted Donald Trump’s June 2015 presidential campaign announcement at Trump Tower to be “a circuslike spectacle” — complete with elephants.

The Post’s report reads: “Some in Trump’s orbit — including Michael Cohen, Trump’s then-fixer and personal lawyer, who is serving a three-year prison term for tax evasion and campaign finance violations, among other misdeeds — pushed for a circuslike spectacle, complete with elephants and women in bikinis.”

COHEN GETS 3 YEARS IN PRISON FOR TAX FRAUD, CAMPAIGN FINANCE VIOLATIONS, LYING

It is unclear if the reported suggestion from Cohen, a man with a history of poor choices, was ever given serious consideration. Trump’s big announcement in 2016 went ahead without circus animals or scantily clad women.

The lengthy report delved into behind-the-scenes details from the day, including some Trump advisers reportedly not wanting the real estate mogul to take his now-famous escalator ride.

Despite protests from some around him, Trump said — according to the Post — “No, I’m going down the escalator.”

FLASHBACK: TRUMP ANNOUNCE WHITE HOUSE BID, JOINS CROWDED GOP FIELD

The announcement, which was widely mocked and dismissed by pundits at the time, featured many rhetorical staples of the would-be president’s campaign.

“I am officially running for president of the United States,” he said from inside his signature Trump Tower at the time. “We are going to make our country great again.”

Trump was considered the longest of shots at the time, but he emerged from the crowded Republican field with the party’s nomination. Viewed as an outsider again in the 2016 presidential election, he was able to defeat Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

Fox News @ Night anchor Shannon Bream previewed the major rulings that could come down soon as the Supreme Court ends its current term.

In a report for “America’s Newsroom,” Bream said Monday that the two justices appointed by President Trump, Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch, have already shown independence with some of their rulings.

For instance, Gorsuch joined in dissent with Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on a case Monday, Bream noted.

“They’ve both shown that on specific, individual cases, they’re not unwilling to break with the expected outcome,” said Bream.

She reported that the court declined to rule on whether an Oregon baker can refuse on religious grounds to design a cake for a same-sex wedding. The justices decided to send the case back to a lower court for further consideration.

The business, Sweetcakes by Melissa, was fined $135,000 for refusing service to a lesbian couple.

Bream noted that another similar case involving a Washington florist named Barronelle Stutzman is also awaiting the high court’s ruling.

She said that eventually, the court will have to decide one of these cases on the merits.

“It seems the court is going to have to take one of these cases in the next year or two, but for today they’re saying they’re not going to,” she explained.

Funny guy James “Murr” Murray is once again taking his talents from television to print, releasing a new sci-fi thriller.

During a Monday appearance on “Fox & Friends,” Murray discussed his new book, ‘The Brink: An Awakened Novel,’ and how it contrasts with his day job as one of the core four members of ‘Impractical Jokers,’ a hidden camera reality series on truTV.

On the show, Murray and his three longtime friends complete a serious of embarrassing and hilarious dares, and if they fail to do so, they get an even more cringe-worthy punishment.

“One would argue what they do to me on ‘Jokers is already horror. It’s an easy transition to write a thriller,” Murray said of his new book.

“It’s exciting, thrilling – there are Nazis in it, possible terror attacks, thwarting of villains – it’s such a great, action-packed thriller,” he continued.

J.K. ROWLING TO RELEASE 4 NEW ‘HARRY POTTER’ WORLD E-BOOKS

‘Brink’ is the follow-up to his hugely successful first book, ‘Awakened: A Novel,’ which came out last year. The second book, Murray said, takes the themes of his first book and applies them on a larger scale.

“They have to hunt down the creatures and the villain behind the whole thing on a global scale, it’s really exciting,” he said.

As part of the promotion, Murray is also offering one lucky winner an all-expenses-paid trip to New York City to spend a “night out on the town” with him.

Ron Goldman’s sister on O.J. Simpson’s Twitter debut: Maybe podcast release ‘pushed him over the edge’

On the 25th anniversary of the infamous white Bronco chase, Ron Goldman’s sister revealed Monday that she “100 percent” blames the jury for failing to convict O.J. Simpson for the murders of her brother and Nicole Brown Simpson.

Kim Goldman appeared on “Fox & Friends” to reflect on watching a suicidal O.J. Simpson being driven down a Los Angeles interstate by his best friend and former teammate Al Cowlings in June 1994. It was her family’s hope that the incident would end peacefully so that the football legend could go to trial and they could “find out what the truth was” about her brother’s death.

On her podcast, “Confronting: O.J. Simpson,’ Goldman discusses the trial with several former jurors, who she blames for the outcome of the trial.

“They were the decision makers,” she said. “And if you listen to the podcast two of the jurors tell me that we were never going to get a conviction. They believe in the conspiracy.”

KIM GOLDMAN RECALLS OJ SIMPSON CAR CHASE, COMMENTS ON GLOVES 25 YEARS ON: ‘THEY FIT!’

Goldman reflected on the day she found out her brother had been murdered while she was attending college in San Francisco. She watched the story unfold on the news before her father was notified of Ron’s death by the local coroner.

“I didn’t realize that I had watched the news earlier in the day and watched my brother being wheeled out of the crime scene,” she said.

Simpson raised eyebrows over the weekend when he created a Twitter account two days after the 25th anniversary of the murders.

O.J. SIMPSON SAYS HE WILL USE SOCIAL MEDIA TO ‘SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT’

He announced his presence on the platform by posting a grinning video in which he discussed the fact that many have been able to say whatever they’ve wanted about him for years, but he now has “got a little getting even to do.” In a matter of days, he’s accumulated more than 600,000 followers.

Kim Goldman told “Fox & Friends” hosts that she wonders if the announcement of her podcast triggered O.J., just as the release of the book “If I Did It” did in 2007. She recalled that the day the book was originally published, Simpson committed armed robbery in Las Vegas for which he spent nine years in jail.

“I find it kind of disgraceful that on the observation of Ron and Nicole’s death that’s the day he chooses to go online and say he is going to get even,” she said.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said on “Fox & Friends” Monday that Democrats have been less helpful than Mexico when it comes to addressing the border crisis.

In response, he said he will bring up a “freestanding” bill next week to commit roughly $5 billion to address the humanitarian part of the crisis.

McConnell, R-Ky., said the money was supposed to be included in a recent bill to provide emergency funds to areas hit by storms, but the Democrats insisted the funds be removed.

PELOSI ACCUSES REPUBLICANS OF TOLERATING TRUMP’S UNETHICAL BEHAVIOR FOR ‘MONEY’

“I’m going to bring it up freestanding next week and see if they really aren’t interested in dealing with this mass of humanity that we have to take care of at the border. What’s the objection? he asked.

He stressed that the bill would focus on the humanitarian issues, not President Trump’s border wall, which is vigorously opposed by Democrats.

“I think it’s safe to say the president is getting more cooperation out of Mexico than he is out of congressional Democrats,” said McConnell.

He said Democrats are “suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome” and whatever he supports, they will “reflexively” oppose.

“We want to build a wall. We think the president has made a good case for that. That’s not what this is about. This is just the humanitarian part of the problem on our side of the border,” he said.

McConnell also responded to comedian Jon Stewart, who accused him on “Fox News Sunday” of failing to prioritize the continued funding of the 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund.

McConnell responded to the clip by stressing that the Senate has “never failed” to address the issue, adding “I’m not sure why he’s all bent out of shape.”

MSNBC host Joe Scarborough said Monday he is “completely at a loss” to understand President Trump’s current strategy for re-election in 2020.

The “Morning Joe” panel responded to reports that the Trump campaign cut ties with internal pollsters after a leak of polling from March that showed Trump trailing Joe Biden in 11 battleground states.

Meantime, a new Fox News poll found that Trump trails the Democrat in each of the possible 2020 head-to-head matchups tested and never gets above 41 percent support.

Biden tops Trump by 10 points (49-39 percent) and Bernie Sanders is up by nine (49-40) — both of these leads are outside the poll’s margin of error. Elizabeth Warren has a two-point edge over Trump (43-41), and Kamala Harris (42-41) and Pete Buttigieg (41-40) are up by one (within the margin of error).

CNN BOSS JEFF ZUCKER MAKES SEXUAL JOKE ABOUT STAR ANCHOR DURING AWARD CEREMONY: REPORT

Scarborough said even Trump has acknowledged that “everything broke his way” on Election Day in 2016, where he narrowly defeated Hillary Clinton in the battleground states of Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan.

“Considering everything that’s happened over the past several years, I must say I’m completely at a loss at how he thinks he’s going to get where he needs to go to get re-elected again, while he still just keeps playing to that small base,” he argued.

The former Florida Republican congressman compared the current state of the race to the 1976 election, where incumbent Republican Gerald Ford lost to Democrat Jimmy Carter.

Journalist and commentator Mike Barnicle noted that pollsters have told him that Trump’s numbers with female voters are “devastating.” MSNBC political analyst Nick Confessore countered that Trump has a “real advantage” being able to campaign as the incumbent president and has outraised his opponents thus far.

“He’s gonna have this whole year to fine-tune an apparatus of social media and advertising and bash the Democratic field,” he said, cautioning that polling is hard to assess until the Democratic nominee is chosen.
