Who ‘unsettled’ who? Jesse Watters and Juan Williams disagree on Trump and Biden’s verbal sparring

Is the verbal sparring unsettling former Vice President Joe Biden or President Trump?

The Five” discussed the possible 2020 presidential election opponents as they continue to take shots at one another Tuesday.

“I would rather run against, I think, Biden than anybody. I think he is weakest mentally,” Trump told reporters.  “Joe Biden is a dummy.”

Biden, the frontrunner in the Democratic presidential race, called the president an “existential threat to America” Tuesday in Iowa adding, “This is a guy who does everything to separate and frighten people.”

BIDEN TO SLAM TRUMP AS ‘EXISTENTIAL THREAT’ DURING DUELING IOWA STOPS

On “The Five,” Juan Williams said he thinks Biden is clearly under the president’s skin.

“I’m telling you what’s clear is that Joe Biden had unsettled Donald Trump. What he says Joe Biden is dumb or slow, please,” Williams said.

However, co-host Jesse Watters disagreed, arguing instead that it was Biden who was “unsettled.”

“I think Trump has unsettled Joe Biden because he flip-flopped on China today. He’s had actually China is our competitor and is a huge threat,” the “Watters’ World” host said.

AS TRUMP LIKENS BIDEN TO ‘CROOKED HILLARY,’ BIDEN SAYS TRUMP ERA ‘HAS GOT TO END’

Co-host Greg Gutfeld argued that Biden will say anything to keep the “spotlight.”

“He is in a bad situation where the more you look, the less you see. He has cruised along as a co-star, secondary character in a sitcom, not the star. Now you know why because he will say anything for the spotlight,” Gutfeld said.

Biden and Trump have repeatedly taken shots at one another in recent weeks, offering a glimpse of what a potential 2020 race would look like.

Biden, though, is leading the Democratic primary field by double digits in recent national polls.

Nevertheless, Trump said he hopes to run against Biden in the 2020 general election.

Trump, who will be 73 on Friday, has repeatedly said he would “easily” beat Biden in 2020 and has poked fun at the former vice president’s age while giving the 76-year-old new nicknames including “Sleepy Joe” and “1 percent Joe.”

CNN’s Jim Acosta fires another shot at Trump, says media is more honest with Americans than the president

CNN’s White House star Jim Acosta has fired another shot at Donald Trump amid his ongoing feud with the president.

Acosta, who on Monday dismissed the idea that he seeks out the spotlight during the Trump presidency but rather he and other journalists were “thrust” into an “unprecedented situation,” said in another new interview that the media has been more honest with the American public than the president.

“I have never witnessed a concerted effort by any news organization to take a stand one way or the other on a political issue, to damage one particular party or help another,” he told Publishers Weekly.

He also defended the press by arguing that it issued corrections when mistakes are made, something he said the president does not do.

CNN’S JIM ACOSTA SUGGESTS HE WAS ‘THRUST’ INTO THE SPOTLIGHT DURING TRUMP ERA

“We have been far more honest and straightforward with the American people than President Trump has,” Acosta said.

“Are there times when we fall short? Sure. But the press issues corrections. When was the last time you saw the president issue a correction or a clarification? It’s a rare thing for Donald J. Trump.”

The interview came as Acosta released his memoir titled “The Enemy of the People: A Dangerous Time to Tell Truth in America.” The book, which recounts his time covering the Trump White House, caught attention for pushing back on the idea of media “neutrality.”

“Neutrality for the sake of neutrality doesn’t really serve us in the age of Trump,” it read. Acosta elaborated on that point during his interview with PW.

CNN’S JIM ACOSTA ACCUSED OF BEING DISHONEST ABOUT TRUMP’S ASYLUM SEEKERS REMARK

“There aren’t two sides to the story when it’s a matter of right and wrong,” he said.”There’s nothing right about neo-Nazis causing so much mayhem that a woman is dead in the streets. You can’t be neutral about something as heinous as neo-Nazis and white supremacists.”

He was referring to the racially-charged protests in Charlottesville, Virginia at the beginning of Trump’s presidency. Acosta took issue with Trump saying there were “very fine people on both sides.”

HELL FREEZES OVER AS JIM ACOSTA, JOE SCARBOROUGH PRAISE TRUMP’S D-DAY SPEECH

Acosta has taken plenty of criticism from both the president and his press secretary, Sarah Sanders. Acosta defended one particular exchange in which he asked Sanders where the Bible said it was moral to take children away from their mothers — a reference to the southern border crisis.

“I suppose a critic could read that question as grandstanding, but a creative question aimed at penetrating talking points and spin is sometimes the right way to go,” he said.

The new book will likely provoke Trump’s ire as he could see it as fodder to continue his attacks on CNN.

El Paso border official on enormous jump in family apprehensions: Every day it continues, ‘security threats increase’

A U.S. Border Patrol official said Tuesday that “border security threats” remain as his officers deal with a staggering increase in the number of migrants arriving in the area.

More than 104,000 family unit apprehensions have been made in the El Paso Sector through May of this fiscal year, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection. In the same period of 2018, there were 4,733 apprehensions, a more than 2,100 percent rise.

Aaron Hull, Chief Border Patrol Agent in the El Paso Sector, was asked on “America’s Newsroom” about the “enormous” increase, explaining the toll it has taken on authorities.

“The border security threats remain. In addition to the family unit aliens and unaccompanied children we’re catching, we continue to catch criminals, pedophiles, people with contagious diseases,” he explained.

Hull said, “every day that it continues, every day our border security threats increase,” since agents are having to perform “stewardship” duties for children and families, rather than focusing on securing border areas between the ports of entry.

Bill Hemmer, citing statistics from Immigration and Customs Enforcement, asked how agents can sort through the more than 200,000 who have claimed to be part of a family unit since December.

Hull said each person “is a human being” with their own “individual background and health conditions.” He said each one must be subject to their own “immigration inspection” and often those who claim to be part of a family unit are not being truthful.

“There are very serious security threats and we catch people from all around the world and their intentions for entering this country are not always good,” he said.

The number of migrants apprehended at America’s southern border skyrocketed in May to levels not seen in over a decade, with U.S. Customs and Border Protection reporting nearly 133,000 arrests for the month.

The number surpassed 144,000 when counting migrants deemed inadmissible — more than a 30 percent increase from the prior month and double the influx recorded at the beginning of the year.

“We are in full-blown emergency,” a CBP official said last week.

Trump calls tariff story a fraud, ramps up media attacks

Westlake Legal Group TRUMPTHUMB Trump calls tariff story a fraud, ramps up media attacks Howard Kurtz fox-news/person/donald-trump fox-news/entertainment/media fox-news/columns/media-buzz fox news fnc/politics fnc article 6b6ad178-b301-5550-a644-ca50e32eb9f0

When President Trump has a setback, he usually winds up ripping the way the media are covering it.

When the president has a success, he also winds up ripping the way the media are covering it.

That is what’s unfolding now in the wake of the Mexican tariff deal, part of a wave of anti-press postings that are unusually intense, even by Trumpian standards.

GUTFELD ON TRUMP’S TARIFFS AND THE DEMOCRATIC RESPONSE

In fact, Trump gave a rare nod to the criticism that it’s unseemly for him to be personally slamming journalists and their outlets—this after denigrating “Little Donny Deutsch,” the MSNBC commentator, as a “disaster” who is not really a former friend but supposedly begged to be on “The Apprentice.”

“I know it is not at all ‘Presidential’ to hit back at the Corrupt Media, or people who work for the Corrupt Media, when they make false statements about me or the Trump Administration,” he tweeted. “Problem is, if you don’t hit back, people believe the Fake News is true. So we’ll hit back!”

And he is, several times a day.

The president was already upset with tepid coverage that credited him for the deal but questioned whether the Mexicans would be able to carry out their promises to stem the tide of Central American migrants seeking U.S. asylum. Now he’s continuing his assault on his least favorite newspaper for its coverage of the last-minute deal with Mexico.

Having previously called a Times story “shockingly false and untrue,” Trump now says the paper should admit it’s “a FRAUD and nothing more than a badly reported ‘hit job’ on me, something that has been going on since the first day I announced for the presidency! Sick Journalism.”

TRUMP DEFENDS DEAL WITH MEXICO TO STEM MIGRANT FLOWS, PREVENT TARIFFS

The paper stands by its reporting and says that like previous stories denied by Trump, it will eventually be shown to be accurate.

Here is the piece that set him off:

“The deal to avert tariffs that President Trump announced with great fanfare on Friday night consists largely of actions that Mexico had already promised to take in prior discussions with the United States over the past several months, according to officials from both countries who are familiar with the negotiations.”

The Times has significant details, such as that an agreement to allow asylum seekers to remain in Mexico “was reached in December in a pair of painstakingly negotiated diplomatic notes that the two countries exchanged” when Kirstjen Nielsen ran Homeland Security.

Now it’s true that no deal is a deal until it’s signed. It’s equally true that much of the media don’t give Trump credit for a confrontational negotiating style in which he often throws talks into chaos before eking out last-minute concessions. There was substantial Republican and business opposition to Trump’s threatened 5 percent tariff on Mexican goods.

Instead, the media narrative is that Trump creates crises and then plays the hero in resolving them. Whether that’s fair or not, it doesn’t make the Times story “shockingly false.”

Trump, who called in to CNBC’s “Squawk Box” yesterday to defend the deal, said “if we didn’t have tariffs we wouldn’t have made a deal with Mexico.”

The president has also been firing his ammunition at the corporate parents of media outlets—a tactic he’s used against the “Amazon” Washington Post.

Having watched MSNBC over the weekend to see what “the opposition” was saying, Trump declared the product to be “such lies…Fake News! No wonder their ratings, along with CNN, are WAY DOWN. The hatred Comcast has is amazing!”

And there was this when he unloaded on CNN while having to watch it in Europe: “Why doesn’t owner @ATT do something?…I believe that if people stopped using or subscribing to @ATT, they would be forced to make big changes at @CNN, which is dying in the ratings anyway.”

SUBSCRIBE TO HOWIE’S MEDIA BUZZMETER PODCAST, A RIFF OF THE DAY’S HOTTEST STORIES

The spectacle of the president of the United States suggesting a consumer boycott of an American company because he doesn’t like the coverage of its subsidiary would be rather shocking if people took it more seriously. The stock market shrugged it off and AT&T’s share price rose.

For Trump supporters who are untroubled by this, imagine how you’d have felt if Barack Obama had floated a boycott of, say, 20th Century Fox movies because he didn’t like the way Fox News covered him.

Look, the media’s tone toward this president is overwhelmingly negative. If he gives a good D-Day speech, they focus on his attack on Nancy Pelosi. That’s just the way it is, and he’s entitled to punch back.

But when Trump indiscriminately blasts parent companies, or claims a story is fraudulent without explaining the errors, that rhetoric tends to become background noise.

“Real Time” host Bill Maher warned Democrats on Monday not to “peck” former Vice President Joe Biden if he’s the only 2020 candidate who can defeat President Trump.

During his appearance on “Cuomo Prime Time,” Maher expressed concerns that the Democratic Party has not learn the lessons from 2016 and how they have yet to have the “we’ve got to get serious” moment. He then invoked former President Obama‘s remarks about how the 2020 Democrats have created a “circular firing squad,” leaving them to attack each other.

“Joe Biden, for example, the whole thing with the kissing the back of the head and the Eskimo kisses- who cares?” Maher exclaimed. “You know, if this is the guy to beat Trump, it is unconscionable to be pecking at him this way at the beginning.”

The HBO star compared what Biden was accused of versus President Trump, who Maher suggested got away with “real sexual assault” and concluded that the former vice president was “just being Joe.”

“OK, you don’t like it, it’s creepy, I get it,” Maher continued. “Sometimes these people do things to me that are too close and I don’t like it, but that’s life! You know… instead of writing a blog about it a year and a half later, just turn around and say ‘excuse me.’ Some things you have to handle yourself.”

Maher also slammed political correctness, calling it the “cancer of progressivism” and told CNN anchor Chris Cuomo how he doesn’t trust the media.

Fox News’ Sean Hannity slammed House Democrats and Watergate figure John Dean Monday night calling a House Judiciary hearing a “circus” and Dean a “liar.”

“John Dean is a convicted felon, he was disbarred many decades ago for ‘being guilty of unethical, unprofessional, and unwarranted conduct.’ Oh, disbarred too, perfect guy for fake news CNN. Liar. Fake news. Now the felon rakes in a lot of cash trashing Donald Trump daily for the mainstream lying media mob,” Hannity said on his television show, not holding back.

NADLER PUTS BARR CONTEMPT PUSH ON HOLD AFTER STRIKING MUELLER REPORT DEAL

Dean, the former White House counsel to Richard Nixon, testified Monday that he sees “remarkable parallels” between Watergate and the Russia investigation.

The Fox News host called Dean a “prop” and the hearing “propaganda.”

“John Dean has been used as a prop by the mainstream media mob in the Democratic Party for years. Today’s hearing was a sham, a circus. A Democratic propaganda, paid for by you, the American people,” Hannity said.

Hannity praised President Trump for using executive privilege to prevent Democrats from ‘dragging’ America through yet another investigation.

“Now it is all over, there was no collusion, and the president will not allow Democrats to literally drag Americans through this process, yet again, for what would be a fifth investigation. And that’s why the president is now rightly saying ‘enough’s enough’ asserting executive privilege,” Hannity said.

Hannity criticized Democrats for costing White House workers, who serve their country, thousands in legal fees.

“House Democrats, they are not going to have the ability to re-litigate the Russia probe for a fifth time. It’s now abuse of power and outright harassment of a duly elected president.  More importantly, all the people that work for the president trying to serve their country should not have to shell out tens and tens of thousands of dollars in new legal fees answering the same questions over and over and over again,” Hannity said.

Former Rep. Beto O’Rourke, D-Texas, and New York Mayor Bill de Blasio face “big obstacles” as they seek to clinch the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination.

Lisa Boothe made the claim Monday on “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” after watching a clip of O’Rourke reacting to polls showing him garnering two percent support among Iowa Democrats, while de Blasio was listed at zero percent.

“I don’t know that this many months out from the caucuses in Iowa, that these polls really indicate what our prospects are,” O’Rourke told ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos.

BIDEN LEAD SLIPS IN LATEST IOWA POLL; SANDERS, WARREN, BUTTIGIEG ARE NEAREST CONTENDERS

“Not only does he seem delusional, but he’s back-tracked in his campaign,” Boothe claimed. “But, it’s not as bad as Bill de Blasio who is registering at zero right now in Iowa. So, both are facing big obstacles ahead of them.”

Host Tucker Carlson added he thought de Blasio would be able to garner some figure of support in Iowa, more than a thousand miles from the mayor’s home.

“The idea was the farther you get from New York City, the less people know about what a disaster he is, so the more likely they are to support him,” Carlson claimed.

The poll Boothe cited was conducted by the Des Moines Register and released Saturday, surveying likely Democratic caucus-goers in Iowa.

It showed Joe Biden in the lead, but with softer support than last December, and a virtual tie for second place among Sens. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt. and Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass. and South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg.

Biden garnered 24 percent of those polled, Sanders got 16 percent, Warren held 15 percent and Buttigieg received 14 percent. Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif. trailed with 7 percent, O’Rourke and Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., got 2 percent each and the other candidates barely registered.

“Real Time” host Bill Maher blasted political correctness as a “cancer on progressivism” and slammed the media during his Monday night appearance on CNN.

Ahead of the 2020 presidential race, which Maher predicted will be the “dirtiest” ever, he expressed that he didn’t “have a lot of faith” in the media’s role in covering the election.

“We don’t live in the era of news division as loss-leaders like we used to,” Maher explained. “The news division didn’t use to have to make a profit. Then, that changed, and then you have to report to the board like everybody else and show your earnings, and in that atmosphere, they’re going to be looking for eyeballs. That’s going to be the most important thing, it’s getting people to click, getting people to watch.”

The HBO star insisted that the media “overcovered” the Clinton email scandal, which he said “had an effect” on the  2016 election.

“I don’t trust the media. If that’s the question, that’s my answer,” Maher told CNN anchor Chris Cuomo.

The conversation then pivoted to his criticisms of Democrats and the attacks he’s received in return.

“I go after them because they need going after. They need some tough love and I’m not going to stop,” the “Real Time” host said.

“I think a lot of this far-left political correctness is a cancer on progressivism. I think when you talk to Trump supporters, they’re not blind to his myriad flaws, but one thing they always say is, ‘he’s not politically correct.’ I don’t think you can overestimate how much people have been choking on political correctness and hate it.”

House Democrats are looking to “destroy” the Trump presidency with a continued effort to revive the Mueller report, according to Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C.

“There is nothing going on in the House about protecting the 2020 election, they are trying to nullify the 2016 election. Mueller has spoken, he found no
collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russians after two years, 25 million dollars, 19 lawyers and 40 FBI agents,” Graham told “The Story with Martha MacCallum” Monday.

“He decided not to bring any charges regarding the obstruction of justice because there is no crime here. The bottom line is what the House is doing is politically motivated, trying to destroy the Trump presidency.”

HOUSE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE TO HOLD MUELLER REPORT HEARING WITH WATERGATE FIGURE JOHN DEAN

Dean, the former White House counsel to Richard Nixon, testified before the House Judiciary Committee Monday saying that he sees “remarkable parallels” between Watergate and the findings of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report.

Graham assured MacCallum that the Senate was done with the Mueller report.

“I can assure you that we are done with the Mueller investigation in the Senate. They can talk to John Dean until the cows come home, we are not doing anything in the Senate regarding the Mueller report,” Graham said.

The senator also said that Attorney General William Bar and U.S. Attorney John Durham are focusing on the origins of the Russia investigation, trying to get answers to some important questions.

“Nobody from the FBI, no one ever told candidate Trump that ‘we think some people working for you may be working with the Russians.’ Why did they not tell Trump what they told the Democratic Party?” Graham said.

The Justice Department revealed Monday it is investigating the activities of several “non-governmental organizations and individuals” and that it was looking into the involvement of “foreign intelligence services.”
