Ben Shapiro: Trump’s Normandy media coverage ‘preset’ to deny president ‘full victory’

Westlake Legal Group Ben-Shapiro-Trump Ben Shapiro: Trump's Normandy media coverage 'preset' to deny president 'full victory' fox-news/world/world-regions/france fox-news/us/military/veterans fox-news/topic/world-war-two fox-news/topic/fox-news-flash fox-news/shows/the-story fox-news/person/donald-trump fox-news/entertainment/media fox news fnc/politics fnc Charles Creitz b6455729-2600-5d6d-a89c-b850960b65d8 article

President Trump was rightfully praised for his D-Day speech, but the press coverage was still “preset” to disallow him “full victory,” according to Ben Shapiro.

Shapiro, editor of the Daily Wire, claimed the mainstream media concentrated on “ancillary issues” instead of what was truly happening at the commemoration in Normandy, in an appearance Friday on “The Story.”

“I think he gave one of the great speeches of his presidency, and yet most of the media coverage surrounded ancillary issues that had pretty much nothing to do with what was happening on the ground,” Shapiro said.

HELL FREEZES OVER AS JIM ACOSTA, JOE SCARBOROUGH PRAISE TRUMP’S D-DAY SPEECH

The conservative commentator, however, noted two journalists perceived to be frequent critics of Trump, CNN White House correspondent Jim Acosta and MSNBC host Joe Scarborough, praised his speech at the veterans’ cemetery on Thursday.

“This is perhaps the most on-message moment of Donald Trump’s presidency today,” Acosta said.

Scarborough, a former Republican congressman from Florida, called Trump’s acknowledgment of the D-Day troops’ sacrifices, “a beautiful moment.”

Shapiro said, outside those reactions, the media gave too much emphasis to some issues they covered.

“I saw a lot of coverage on Twitter how he signed the joint document with the other allies from World War II, he signed it at the top of the page,” he said. “Ooh, end of the world.”

“I do think the media coverage was already pre-set here, they were not going to allow him to have a full victory,” Shapiro continued.

“It should have been a nearly unanimous victory for the president and instead the media turns it into something else, of course.”

Georgia Representative: Democrats are ‘blind with rage’ in their desire to impeach President Trump

Rep. Doug Collins, R., Ga., has criticized the continued actions of Democrats in Washington and their “blind rage” behind efforts to subpoena Attorney General William Barr and to impeach President Trump.

His comments came in the wake of Democratic Rep. Mazie Hirono’s statement that she believes the president has continued to obstruct justice in the wake of the Mueller investigation. During a Friday afternoon interview with “Outnumbered,” Rep. Collins said that Democrats are “way out over their skis” and willing to say anything to bring down Trump.

“They are just so blinded by rage at what’s going on with this administration that they are willing to make false accusations pair that’s where the breakdown in honesty with the American people and Congress has got to get better,” he said.

“They need to be working on immigration and trade deals, and what the American people need. Not this continual attack on the president,” he added.

HOUSE DEMS PLAN NEW WAVE OF RUSSIA HEARINGS AMID IMPEACHMENT CHATTER

Rep. Collins, a ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, also argued that intelligence leaders who were involved in the Russia investigation should be worried about their actions in regard to AG Barr’s push to “investigate the investigators.”

“The ones who need to be scared are the corrupt cabal of Peter Strzok, Lisa Page, James Comey and others. They’re out there trying to rehabilitate themselves because I don’t think they want looked into – what they did,” he said, before highlighting that the behavior of a few shouldn’t undermine our justice system.

“I don’t want to blanket the entire FBI or even the entire DOJ with the wrongdoings of some very wrong-minded, corrupt individuals who decided on their own that they were going to take things into their own hands,” he added.

Ultimately, Collins argued, the continued focus on the fallout from the Russia investigation is an attempt to distract from a lack of policy planning.

“Democrats have gotten way over their skis and promising their rabid base who doesn’t like the president … at the same time, they much rather would focus on this because they have no legislative agenda,” he said.

“We’ve seen five and have months of absolute nothing but pandering to the left base, so now they are having that as a problem, and also the problem of their whole house of cards on what the president did coming apart as well,” he added.

The Snowflake Test: ‘Fox & Friends’ visits firm behind job-seeker exam that went viral

“Fox & Friends” correspondent Todd Piro visited the marketing firm whose “Snowflake Test” went viral a few years ago.

The Silent Partner Marketing firm, located in Manchester, Conn., made headlines in 2017 after its CEO Kyle Reyes announced he was making job applicants pass a 30-question “personality test” before they reached the formal interview process.

“After the Snowflake Test, we had a lot of people pretty angry,” Reyes said, explaining that the exam was designed to weed out “whiny, entitled” applicants.

The test came about after Hampshire College in Massachusetts generated outrage from veterans by briefly deciding not to fly the American flag on campus.

Reyes explained that Silent Partner Marketing focuses on helping grow businesses associated with law enforcement and the military.

That includes a former Navy SEAL who started a coffee company and cafe called Battle Grounds Coffee and another company that sells portable products to detect drugs and explosives.

In the past few years, Reyes said the “Snowflake Test” has evolved into a much more rigorous process, including a “high-stress” test for managers as a final interview.

“We put them way outside their comfort zone and conduct the interview during that process,” Reyes said.

For instance, a company manager explained that he was hired after he passed a test that included underwater helicopter rescue training.

CNN’s Don Lemon laments Trump-era ‘toxicity’ and trolls, says he may move on: reports

The news – plus barbs from social media trolls and other critics — may be too much for CNN’s Don Lemon to bear much longer.

The host of “CNN Tonight” told an audience in New York City on Thursday that the current “level of toxicity” in society – which he attributed to the Trump presidency – has him questioning whether he’ll still be on the air when the 2020 presidential election rolls around, according to reports.

“I don’t know if it’s worth this level of toxicity,” the 53-year-old Lemon said about continuing in his current position, the Daily Beast reported.

CNN HOST DON LEMON SAYS HIS SHOW AND HIS NETWORK ARE NOT ‘LIBERAL’

“I’m 10 years older than when he rode down the escalator in July 2015,” Lemon added, referring to Donald Trump’s campaign announcement four years ago.

Lemon made the remarks at the Financial Times’ “Future of News” conference.

The anchor also spoke about the negative, unsolicited feedback he sometimes receives.

“I was doing a shoot in the park the other day and someone shouted at me, ‘I’m sick of watching you. We built this country. I can’t wait for CNN to fire your black a–, you f—-t,’” he recalled, according to Deadline.

“So, all of those sorts of people call you on the phone and say those things, or they write you. I don’t go on social media anymore, it’s so toxic,” he added.

Lemon went on to blame the Trump era, and even the president himself.

“I’m black and gay on cable television in prime time — a unicorn — and I’m a target of the right, a target of white extremists, neo-Nazis and of the president,” Lemon said, according to Deadline.

He added later, “ I wonder how long I will continue to do this particular job,” the Daily Beast reported.

Lemon speculated he might be happier as a celebrity chef, or perhaps doing journalism “in a different way.”

President Trump has taken the gloves off in his ongoing feud with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Speaking exclusively to Fox News’ Laura Ingraham in Normandy, France, in an interview that aired Thursday, the president first took time to pay tribute to the heroes who fought on D-Day 75 years ago, describing them as “incredibly brave people” who displayed incredible “valor.”

Then, the president switched gears, slamming Pelosi, D-Calif., as a “nasty, vindictive, horrible person” — after saying he had “tried to be nice to her.”

“I think she’s a disgrace. I actually don’t think she’s a talented person, I’ve tried to be nice to her because I would have liked to have gotten some deals done,” Trump said on “The Ingraham Angle.

“She’s incapable of doing deals, she’s a nasty, vindictive, horrible person, the Mueller report came out, it was a disaster for them.”

FOX NEWS EXCLUSIVE: TRUMP SAYS MUELLER MADE A ‘FOOL’ OF HIMSELF

Trump then referenced former Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report, suggesting some Democrats hoped it would give them the so-called silver bullet to take him down.

More from Fox News Flash

“They thought their good friend Bobby Mueller was going to give them a great report and he came out with a report with 13 horrible, angry Democrats who are totally biased against me,” the president told Ingraham.

“A couple of them worked for Hillary Clinton, they then added five more, also Democrats. With all of that, two-and-a-half years, think of it, from before I even got elected, they’ve been going after me and they have nothing.”

Ingraham then asked Trump if he cared whether or not Mueller would testify publicly about his report. The president used the question as another chance to unload on Pelosi.

JESSE WATTERS: PELOSI ‘THROWING THE LEFT A BONE’ WITH REPORTED COMMENT SHE WANTS TO SEE TRUMP IN ‘PRISON’

“Let me tell you, he made such a fool out of himself the last time she — because what people don’t report is the letter he had to do to straighten out his testimony because his testimony was wrong but Nancy Pelosi, I call her nervous Nancy, Nancy Pelosi doesn’t talk about it,” Trump told Fox News.

“Nancy Pelosi’s a disaster, OK, she’s a disaster and let her do what she wants, you know what? I think they’re in big trouble because when you look at the kind of crimes that were committed, and I don’t need any more evidence, and I guess from what I’m hearing there’s a lot of evidence coming in.

“And then ask Nancy, why is her district [having] drug needles all over the place? It’s the most disgusting thing what she’s allowed to happen to her district, with needles, with drug addicts… with people living on the sidewalk.”

Trump continued, referencing Pelosi’s reported comment to fellow top Democrats that she would like to see him in “prison.”

MUELLER SAYS CHARGING TRUMP WITH A CRIME WAS ‘NOT AN OPTION’ IN RUSSIA PROBE

“It was a horrible, nasty, vicious statement while I’m overseas… She didn’t want to – she is a terrible person and I’ll tell you her name, it’s nervous Nancy because she’s a nervous wreck.”

Pelosi, as Politico reported, made the remark while defending her stance against impeaching the president in an evening meeting with House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., and other top Democrats.

“I don’t want to see him impeached, I want to see him in prison,” she said, according to multiple Democratic sources familiar with the meeting. House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., Oversight Chairman Elijah Cummings, D-Md., Ways and Means Chairman Richard Neal, D-Mass., and Foreign Affairs Chairman Eliot Engel, D-N.Y., also reportedly attended the meeting.

Trump also discussed his potential 2020 opponent, former Vice President Joe Biden, during his interview with Ingraham.

After being asked about Biden downplaying the potential threat of China to the U.S. at a recent town-hall event, Trump said: “He just doesn’t get it, he just doesn’t get it.”

“How happy would President Xi be to have Joe Biden be the nominee of the Democratic party,” Ingraham followed up, to which the president replied: “Well he wants him, he wants him.”

Elsewhere during the president’s wide-ranging interview with Ingraham, he said Mueller made “such a fool” out of himself last week when he delivered his first and only public statement about the Russia investigation.

“Let me tell you, he made such a fool out of himself … because what people don’t report is the letter he had to do to straighten out his testimony because his testimony was wrong,” Trump told Ingraham.

Trump was referring to Mueller’s initial suggestion that the president was not charged with an obstruction-of-justice offense because of longstanding Justice Department policy.

“Charging the president with a crime was not an option we could consider,” Mueller said last week, citing an Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) opinion stating that a sitting president could not be indicted.

“If we had confidence that the president clearly did not commit a crime, we would have said that. … We concluded that we would not reach a determination one way or the other about whether the president committed a crime,” Mueller said.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi reportedly said she wants to see President Trump behind bars — but is she telling the truth or just talking tough to appease her party?

Pelosi reportedly told senior Democrats on Tuesday that she ultimately wants to see President Trump “in prison,” according to Politico.

“I don’t want to see him impeached, I want to see him in prison,” she said, according to multiple Democratic sources familiar with the meeting. House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff, Oversight Chairman Elijah Cummings, Ways and Means Chairman Richard Neal and Foreign Affairs Chairman Eliot Engel also reportedly attended the meeting.

But on “The Five” Thursday, co-host Jesse Watters suggested the speaker might not be telling the truth.

“She is just throwing the left a bone to make it seem like yeah, I want to get Trump really badly,” Watters said.

The “Watters World” host then laughed off Pelosi’s reported remarks.

Co-host Juan Williams said he believes Pelosi is focused on voting Trump out of the White House in 2020, rather than impeachment.

“She is not saying anything about impeachment. I think what she is saying really, we need to beat him in 2020,” Williams said. “And then once he is out of the White House, and with all his protections, at that point we can look and see what prosecution is possible.”

Grge Gutfeld similarly dismissed Pelosi’s reported comment as talk, before taking the opportunity to reveal the surprising group he would like to see in prison — Maroon 5.

Democrats should spend less time talking about impeaching President Trump and more time focusing on the things that really matter, according to New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio.

De Blasio made the remarks Thursday on “Special Report” after being asked about House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s comments during a closed-door meeting – in which the California Democrat considered the prospect of President Trump going to prison.

The mayor said his party needs to focus on doing their job for the American people instead of talking about punishing the president.

“First, I’d like to see Democrats focused on the needs of working people,” de Blasio said. “I think there’s too much talk about impeachment.

“I think there should be a lot more talk about what we’re going to do for working people.  Why don’t we as Democrats pass that infrastructure bill, help put people back to work.”

Baier followed up by asking whether Pelosi should have made the remarks about Trump and prison.

The mayor stopped short of criticizing the speaker in his response, before saying he believed the Russia investigation’s conclusion provided key evidence that could get the president in trouble and urged Democrats to investigate further.

“I would say all Democrats should say this, there needs to be a full investigation, the Mueller report offers lots of important evidence.  I believe ultimately there are impeachable offenses there,” the former city councilman from Brooklyn said.

Elizabeth Warren in an Indiana town hall Wednesday night challenged Joe Biden on abortion, saying the 2020 Democratic frontrunner is wrong to not support the repeal of the Hyde Amendment – which prevents federal funding for ending pregnancies.

“I’ve lived in an America where abortions were illegal and understand this: Women still got abortions,” Warren, a U.S. senator from Massachusetts, told host MSNBC’s Chris Hayes. “Now, some got lucky on what happened and some got really unlucky on what happened.”

Warren asserted that the Hyde Amendment disproportionately affects poor women.

“Women of means will still have access to abortions,” she said at Fort Wayne event. “Who won’t will be poor women, will be working women, will be women who can’t afford to take off three days from work, will be very young women who have been raped, will be women who have been molested by someone in their own family.”

WARREN’S REBOUND? MASSACHUSETTS SENATOR REGAINS FOOTING IN POLLS

Other 2020 Democratic presidential candidates like Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York and Bernie Sanders of Vermont have also come out in favor of repealing the Hyde Amendment.

Biden, the former vice president and longtime U.S. senator from Delaware, voted for it in 1976 and recently said he still supports it.

In the hour-long MSNBC interview, she also said that after she finished reading the Mueller report she concluded that impeaching the president was necessary and if Trump were any other person he’d be “carried out in handcuffs.”

“Some things are bigger than politics,” she said. “This matters for our democracy — not just now, but under the next president, and the next president, and the next president.” She added that “no one is above the law.”

Warren had struggled to gain traction at the start of her presidential campaign but has gained in the polls in recent weeks.
