Trey Gowdy dismisses 2020 Dem Swalwell’s call for impeachment

Westlake Legal Group McCallum-Gowdy-FOX Trey Gowdy dismisses 2020 Dem Swalwell's call for impeachment Victor Garcia fox-news/topic/fox-news-flash fox-news/shows/the-story fox-news/politics/2020-presidential-election fox-news/person/donald-trump fox-news/entertainment/media fox news fnc/politics fnc article 2cf36ac8-ec36-58ab-93fe-9e9b37bf3749

Former congressman Trey Gowdy dismissed Democratic presidential candidate Eric Swalwell‘s call to impeach President Trump, saying there are no grounds for such actions and that Swalwell just doesn’t want Trump as president.

“I’m just trying to process…the democracy is at risk, so let’s impeach a duly elected president… over a crime for which he was not indicted? I’m trying to process how all that works together,” Gowdy said on “The Story with Martha MacCallum” Thursday.

Gowdy labeled Rep. Swalwell, D-Calif., a leader of the “impeachment train.”

“Here’s what I can tell you about Eric. He’s not just getting on the impeachment bandwagon, he helped build it,” Gowdy said.

TRUMP SAYS HE WOULD ‘WANT TO HEAR’ DIRT ON 2020 RIVALS FROM FOREIGN GOVERNMENTS

“He was on the House Intelligence Committee. They wanted a cloud over this presidency, and they got one. But he and Schiff have been leading the impeachment train, whether or not he formally called for it or not, his actions have indicated that he wanted Trump to not be president since the inauguration.

Earlier Thursday Swalwell, while appearing on MSNBC called for the impeachment of the president over his comments regarding listening to a foreign government with intelligence on a political adversary.

“But now it shows the conduct during the last election was also one that was done with intent. I don’t think we can wait any longer. Our democracy is at risk,” Swalwell said.

Gowdy also dismissed Swalwell’s assertion saying he was confident that Trump or any other president would notify the proper authorities.

FLASHBACK: EX-CLINTON STAFFER ONCE SAID HE’D ‘GO TO EUROPE’ TO CONFIRM TRUMP OPPO

“I am… 100 percent confident and hopeful that this president and any other president would call the intelligence community and law enforcement if a foreign adversary were trying to impact our election,” Gowdy said.

The former congressman also took aim at the FBI and former intelligence leaders saying then-candidate Trump would have been unable to trust Obama-era heads of those organizations.

“But the flip side of that is when you do pick up the phone and call, you have to have confidence in who is on the other end of the line but let’s assume he called in June of 2016.  Who would he have gotten? Jim Comey, someone who’s spent the last two years saying impeachment is too good for the president? John Brennan, is that who he’s supposed to call?  A guy who says he’s treasonous,” Gowdy said.

Gowdy added, “The FBI also has an obligation to be so apolitical and so objective that nobody has any qualms calling them.”

Cory Booker’s ‘Spartacus moment,’ Elizabeth Warren’s beer video among 2020 Dems’ ‘head-scratchers’

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., cracking a beer, and Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., comparing himself to Spartacus were just two of the moments “The Five” recounted as some of the biggest “head-scratchers” of the 2020 campaign so far.

“The Democrats are taking their head-scratching campaign moments to a whole new level,” co-host Jesse Watters claimed, pointing to a viral post Warren filmed several months ago.

In December, Warren posted a video to social media showing her enjoying a beer and asking if her husband, Bruce Mann, wanted to join her.

CORY BOOKER SAYS HE DIDN’T MEAN TO COMPARE HIMSELF TO ‘SPARTACUS,’ BUT EXPRESSED NO REGRETS

“I’m here in my kitchen… I thought maybe we’d just take some questions and I’d see what I can do,” Warren said.

“Do you want a beer?” she asked Mann, who entered the room off-camera. “No, I’ll pass on a beer for now,” he responded.

Co-host Katie Pavlich remarked it seemed Warren, “looks like she hasn’t drank a beer before.”

“The Five’s” next clip showed former Vice President Joe Biden claiming the Obama administration was scandal-free.

“You know what I was most proud of? For eight years, there wasn’t one single hint of a scandal,” Biden told a recent campaign audience.

Watters claimed Biden “conveniently forgot” his time in the White House, adding, “will the media fact-check it? I doubt it.”

But, the “Watters World” host then moved on, saying few will forget Sen. Cory Booker’s “Spartacus moment.”

“This is the closest I will probably have in my life to an ‘I am Spartacus’ moment,” Booker said during the Senate confirmation hearing for Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

Booker was ridiculed after threatening to defy the Senate rules and release what he thought were confidential documents concerning Kavanaugh’s past.

Were President Trump’s Oval Office remarks Wednesday outrageous or much ado about nothing?

Trump raised eyebrows answering a hypothetical question while talking with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos, saying that he would listen to a foreign government if they approached him with intel on a political rival and that he may or may not contact the FBI.

“The Five” co-hosts Juan Williams and Jesse Watters went at it Thursday giving their take on the remarks.

DONALD TRUMP JR. STANDS BY ORIGINAL TESTIMONY AS HE RETURNS FOR SENATE COMMITTEE INTERVIEW

“George goes into the Oval and tries to create a scandal over a hypothetical,” Watters said, putting the blame on ABC’s Stephanopoulos.

You’re going to have to keep shoveling to try to get out of this one.

Williams was taken aback by Watters comments and told him he needed a “bigger shovel.”

“You’re going to have to keep shoveling to try to get out of this one,” Williams told the “Watters’ World” host. “This is so ridiculous. There’s a United States law. This is not a matter of opposition research. There’s a law that says you cannot accept money or in-kind contributions from foreign governments.”

Williams also defended Stephanopoulos saying “this was no gotcha moment” before blasting those who defend the president’s “inexcusable” comments.

“Remember, when they give you this information, they have hooks and you and you are not representing the best interests of our country,” Williams said.

Several House Democrats had some harsh words for White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders after President Trump announced her eventual departure at the end of June.

Reps. Don Beyer, D-Va., and Mark Pocan, Wis., both unleashed a series of criticism — mainly focusing on the accusation that she lied for the president.

“She will be remembered for disgracing her office, ushering in an era of opacity unprecedented in the modern era, publicly treating journalists like dirt, assailing the First Amendment to the Constitution, and lying directly to the American people who paid her salary,” Beyer tweeted on Thursday.

SANDERS: DEMOCRATS HAVE DONE ‘ABSOLUTELY NOTHING’ WHILE MEXICO IS TAKING ‘UNPRECEDENTED’ ACTIONS ON BORDER CRISIS

Meanwhile, Pocan mocked Trump’s tweet describing Sanders as having “extraordinary talents.”

“Extraordinary talents including lying, lying with a straight face, defending the President’s lies, dodging questions, falsely claiming ignorance, not holding daily press briefings, and…lying,” he tweeted.

Others like Rep. Joyce Beatty, D-Ohio, piled on. Beatty, in particular, took aim at Sanders’ eventual refusal to hold press briefings.

Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., seemed unphased, tweeting a simple “Bye, Bye.”

Sanders said on Thursday that serving as press secretary was, besides having children, the “most special experience” of her life and that she “loved every minute, even the hard minutes.”

Trump and Sanders both appeared at a White House event on Thursday where he praised her as “tough.” “We’ve been through a lot together and she’s tough, but she’s good,” he said.

On Twitter, Trump also encouraged Sanders to run for her father Mike Huckabee’s old position as governor of Arkansas.

“She is a very special person with extraordinary talents, who has done an incredible job! I hope she decides to run for Governor of Arkansas – she would be fantastic,” he said. “Sarah, thank you for a job well done!”

Not enough women tech executives in Silicon Valley? They can always be Photoshopped in.

GQ magazine recently removed a photo from its website after learning that the two women appearing with 15 male tech executives had been digitally added.

The two women in question — SunRun CEO Lynn Jurich and Peek CEO Ruzwana Bashir — reportedly attended an event at the Italian home of designer Brunello Cucinelli but were not part of the group that posed for a photo, so their images were added later.

“When we realized we didn’t have a shot where all attendees were represented, we added in photos of two female CEOs taken during the weekend,” a Cucinelli spokesperson told BuzzFeed. “The photos were shared and approved with all the participants including the two women. We meant no harm or had any malicious intent in doing this and we are sorry.”

Jeff Bezos, who was also on the weekend trip but not in the photo, reportedly declined to be photoshopped in.

GQ told BuzzFeed it was not told the photo had been altered and said it removed it from the story because it did not meet the magazine’s “editorial standards.”

Bernie Sanders: Americans ‘will be delighted to pay more in taxes’ for free health care, education

Westlake Legal Group AP19114803474356 Bernie Sanders: Americans 'will be delighted to pay more in taxes' for free health care, education Joseph Wulfsohn fox-news/politics/2020-presidential-election fox-news/politics fox-news/person/bernie-sanders fox-news/entertainment/media fox news fnc/politics fnc fb9e116a-b09e-5cde-9ba1-2b5605f75e16 article

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-VT, continued to defend Democratic socialism and argued that Americans would be “delighted to pay more in taxes” if his policies are carried out.

On Wednesday, Sanders attempted to sway voters into the ideology of Democratic socialism and argued in favor for what he called an “Economic Bill of Rights,” where every American would have a right for items like free health care and education. He also insisted that President Trump is a “corporate socialist” for providing billions in subsidies and tax breaks for corporations.

During an appearance on CNN, the Democratic candidate was asked how he will respond to Trump’s attacks on the campaign trail, specifically when the president invokes Venzuela as an example of failed socialism.

“Look, what we have to understand, for example… the United States is the only major country on Earth not to guarantee health care to all people as a right,” Sanders explained. “In many countries in Europe, Germany for one, you go to college and the cost of college is zero. I think in Finland they actually pay you to go to college. In most countries around the world the level of income and wealth inequality, which in the United States today is worse than at anytime since the 1920s… that level of income and wealth inequality is much less severe than it is right here in the United States.”

“But as you know, the taxes in many of those countries are much higher than they are- the individual and personal tax, are much higher than they are in the United States,” Cooper told the 2020 candidate.

“Yeah, but I suspect that a lot of people in the country would be delighted to pay more in taxes if they had comprehensive health care as a human right,” Sanders claimed. “I live 50 miles away from the Canadian border. You go to the doctor any time you want. You don’t take out your wallet. You have heart surgery, you have a heart transplant, you come out of the hospital, it costs you nothing. Your kids in many countries around the world can go to the public colleges and universities tuition-free, wages in many cases are higher.”

He continued, “So there is a trade-off, but at the end of the day, I think that most people will believe they going to be better off when their kids have educational opportunities without out-of-pocket expenses, when they have healthcare as a human right, when they have affordable housing, when they have decent retirement security, I think most Americans will understand that is a good deal.”

Are Democrats turning on the American people? Fox News host Laura Ingraham says they are and that they have nothing to offer voters heading into the 2020 presidential election.

“With no credible policy proposals, the Democrats have decided to turn on the American people. They are demonizing, boycotting and trying to censor any and all voices that they find objectionable,” Ingraham said in her monologue on “The Ingraham Angle” on Wednesday night.

NEW 2020 POLLS: BIDEN TOPS TRUMP IN MICHIGAN, HOLDS EDGE IN TEXAS

Ingraham blasted Democrats and doubted their 2020 frontrunner, Joe Biden, could handle the situation on the U.S.-Mexico border.

“They literally have nothing to offer the American people except their own derision and hatred. What if the unthinkable were to happen? What if they did manage to retake the White House? Would their failed ideas work any better with a new figurehead?” Ingraham asked. “The failed policies of the Biden and Obama administration primed the country for a results-oriented leader like Trump. Does anyone seriously believe Joe Biden is the man who’s going to … fix the border crisis?”

“The failed policies of the Biden and Obama administration primed the country for a results-oriented leader like Trump. Does anyone seriously believe Joe Biden is the man who’s going to … fix the border crisis?”

— Laura Ingraham

The Fox News host attacked Biden for trying to appease the far left of his party and called Democrats hypocrites.

“This man flips more than a short order cook at IHOP,” Ingraham said. “He has zero credibility. His party supports boycotts of states like Georgia but they have no problem doing business in communist China where a million Muslims are being kept in internment camps. Nice going, guys.”

Ingraham also burst the bubble of positivity around new polling that shows Trump losing to leading Democrats, saying that Democrats still have the harder case to make in 2020.

“Trump’s message will be, or should be, ‘Re-elect me so we can keep this economy humming and finally fix the problems the old guard kept ignoring, like illegal immigration and prescription drug costs.’ Turning back would be the ultimate act of self-destruction for America,” Ingraham said.

“Democrats will have a harder case to make. They need to convince you that even if it means you have to give back some of the money you’ve made over the past four years, electing a Democrat is a moral necessity.”

Harvard Law professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz says impeachment “isn’t constitutionally permissible,” and members of the liberal media should stop calling for Democrats to impeach President Trump.

“I stand up for civil liberties no matter who the president is,” Dershowitz, a Democrat who endorsed former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s candidacy for president in 2008, said Wednesday night on “Hannity.”

“If Hillary Clinton had been elected president and they were trying to impeach her, I would’ve written a book called ‘The Case Against Impeaching Hillary Clinton.’ Congress can’t impeach President Trump. The Constitution provides criteria for impeachment; treason, bribery, high crimes and misdemeanors.”

DERSHOWITZ, TRIBE SPAR OVER IMPEACHMENT: YOU’D HAVE ‘GONE APOPLECTIC’ IF CLINTONS RECEIVED SAME TREATMENT

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., in recent weeks has tried to tamp down members of her party clamoring to impeach the president over the Russia investigation, to little avail.

The Hill media reporter Joe Concha said Democrats calling for impeachment, such as South Carolina Rep. Jim Clyburn, the third-highest-ranking Democrat in the House, have not been “aligned with the American people.”

Concha cited a Quinnipiac poll Wednesday that stated only one-third of Americans thought Congress should launch impeachment proceedings against President Trump. He cited the tense confirmation hearings for Justice Brett Kavanaugh ahead of his appointment to the Supreme Court.

“Remember the Kavanaugh hearings and what that did from a ratings perspective across the board. It would be like a steroid shot for these networks that are struggling right now post Mueller report because they’re not trusted and there’s fatigue around these sorts of things,” Concha said on “Hannity.”

The same Quinnipiac poll also showed that 69 percent of American voters believed any sitting president should be subject to criminal charges, while 24 percent said a president should be charged with crimes after he or she leaves office.

“I want to make sure every American, conservative, liberal, centrist, right, or left supports the Constitution and supports civil liberties no matter who the target is because today it’s a Republican, tomorrow it can be a Democrat, the day after tomorrow it can be you,” Dershowitz cautioned. “Preserve your constitutional rights and civil liberties and don’t let politics interfere with civil liberties and constitutional law.”

Concha also pointed to what he called a double standard in media coverage of the 2020 elections, calling out NBC’s host Rachel Maddow, one of five moderators picked by the network for an upcoming presidential primary debate.

“Objective people look at her moderating a debate and saying, wait a minute, that can’t happen, because in 2016 she moderated a debate and went up on stage on national television and hugged Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton on stage,” Concha said.

He compared it to the perception of certain Fox News journalists. “Picture Shannon Bream or Martha MacCallum doing that to a Republican candidate. The apocalypse would look like nothing compared to what the reaction would be.”

Dershowitz urged the media to put party politics aside and “get back to Walter Cronkite-type journalism where people can trust what they hear in the media. Today that’s just not the case,” he said.
