CNN’s Chris Cillizza mocked for ‘analysis’ pairing 2020 Dems to ‘Game of Thrones’ characters

CNN editor-at-large Chris Cillizza was the subject of ridicule over his “analysis” that paired the Democratic candidates running for president in 2020 to characters from the HBO hit series “Game of Thrones.”

“What else… has lots of characters and drama with an uncertain ending? (Amazing segue, right???) Why, the 2020 Democratic presidential primary campaign, of course!” Cillizza wrote, later adding a disclaimer that many of the “Game of Thrones” characters are “murderers” and “horrible people,” uring readers that they “shouldn’t take this literally.”

Cillizza matched former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke with Jaime Lannister (played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), arguing that both were “born to do this” and struggled with “deeper internal conflict about who they are and whether they are doing the right thing.” He then matched former Vice President Joe Biden with “Game of Thrones” villainess Cersei Lannister (played by Lena Headey), insisting they were both “de facto incumbents” and that they “know their enemies are coming for them.”

He paired California Sen. Kamala Harris with the Mother of Dragons Daenerys Targaryen (played by Emilia Clarke) because they both “have lived up to the hype” but pointed to the potential fear that they “represent too much change for a staid world.” South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg was paired with Jon Snow (played by Kit Harington) since they were previously “unheralded and ignored” but are now “the axis on which the story spins.”

FANS SAY ‘GAME OF THRONES’ HAS ANOTHER EDITING BLUNDER BUT HBO EXPLAINS ERROR NEVER MADE IT TO AIR

Other notable matchups include Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar and Arya Stark (played by Maisie Williams), California Rep. Eric Swalwell and Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish (played by Aidan Gillen), Massachsetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Brienne of Tarth (played by Gwendoline Christie), and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and Maester Aemon Targaryen (played by Peter Vaughan, who passed away in 2016).

The analysis, which was published Sunday hours before the penultimate episode of “Game of Thrones” aired that night, was ratio’d on Twitter, meaning it received more replies than likes and retweets.

Many ripped Cillizza’s piece, suggesting it is proof that journalism is “dying.”

Journalist Yashar Ali blasted Cillizza, suggesting the political reporter is being overpaid for writing “drivel.”

“Here’s why his stuff gets views: they put his stuff on the front page which is in the top 30 websites in US.. Anything will get views. They give him push alerts, so every CNN mobile user is alerted when his stuff posts,” Ali tweeted. “Don’t put his pieces on the front page of CNN, don’t give him a push alert for a month, see where his numbers go. He won’t do well.”

Former Rep. Issa: Schiff knows he’s been ‘disingenuous’ about Trump-Russia claims

Former Rep. Darrell Issa said Monday on “Outnumbered Overtime” that House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff knows he was “disingenuous” when he claimed he had evidence that President Trump colluded with Russia.

Issa claimed that rather than admit the fact, his fellow Californian is instead pivoting and working toward the “destruction of the president.”

“The Trump administration has decided to say a blanket ‘no’ to any kind of oversight whatsoever. No witnesses, no documents, no nothing,” Schiff, a Democrat, said in an ABC News interview on Sunday.

Schiff claimed Trump is asserting executive privilege power over things “he knows there is no basis for.”

“We are going to fight it. We are fighting it,” he said.

TRUMP WARNS IRAN, SAYS COUNTRY WILL ‘SUFFER GREATLY’ IF IT DOES ‘ANYTHING’ AMID TENSIONS

Issa said that Schiff failed to produce evidence the president colluded with Russian actors in regard to his 2016 election victory and is now badgering the administration.

“Instead, he has shifted to the destruction of the president,” Issa said, adding that it is important for the public to understand that Congress’ oversight ability does not come from the Constitution.

“We have it because of the necessity to know that’s in order to legislate. As a result, the courts have always held that there has to be a legislative purpose,” Issa said, adding that House Ways & Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal’s, D-Mass., ongoing attempts to acquire Trump’s tax returns do not meet that standard.

Host Harris Faulkner noted that Neal recently subpoenaed Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin and IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig for the documents.

Issa said some of the Democrats’ actions echo the “Bills of Attainder” used by leaders like English King Henry VIII in the 1500s.

Issa said that the king passed laws targeting an individual or a group rather than the public at-large.

“That is exactly what’s happening,” he said. “This [effort] to demand ten years of the president’s tax records, it’s not about the next president, it’s about this president.”

Howard Stern on his infamous Trump interviews: ‘There was no filter’

Radio legend Howard Stern opened up about his infamous interviews with Donald Trump in a revealing sit-down with “Good Morning America” co-anchor George Stephanopoulos.

Stern is making the media rounds to promote his new book, “Howard Stern Comes Again,” which frequently delves into his interviews and relationship with the president.

AARON RODGERS’ ‘GAME OF THRONES’ CAMEO IN PENULTIMATE EPISODE CAUSES SOCIAL MEDIA FRENZY

Stern interviewed Trump dozens of times on his radio program over the years, telling Stephanopoulos Trump “was a big character on my show.”

“Donald Trump, hands down, whenever you put him on the air, now, this is before he was running for president, he was an open book,” Stern said. “He would say anything. And you know, oddly enough — during the campaign and even now, people quote these interviews that I did with him.”

Stern said he believes it is “unfair” that some in the media have taken Trump’s quotes from The Howard Stern Show out of context.

He pointed to the outrage over Trump’s remark in a 1997 interview about dating in the 1980s being “his personal Vietnam.”

“It was in a very joking scenario. He was not comparing his life to a Vietnam vet. It was ‘Ha-ha-ha and this and that,'” Stern said. “When journalists took it and made it serious, I thought it was a little bit unfair.”

He added that when Trump appeared on this show, “there was no filter.”

Stephanopoulos asked Stern if he believes he helped get Trump elected, to which the self-described king of all media replied, “Absolutely.”

“The way I helped Donald was I let him come on and be a personality. Whether you liked him or not, people related to him as a human being,” Stern said, adding that he wishes he had been able to do the same for his 2016 presidential pick, Hillary Clinton.

“I thought that perhaps if she came on my show, we could’ve stripped away some of the pomp and circumstance or the tightness that comes with running for president and, like Donald, she could’ve been seen in a different light.”

BBC’s Danny Baker on comparing royal baby Archie to a chimp: ‘I f–ked up. Badly’

Shamed British broadcaster Danny Baker whined Friday about having “the worst days of my life” after getting fired for comparing new royal baby Archie to a chimp.

The 61-year-old’s tweet of the ape in smart clothes with the caption “Royal baby leaves hospital” sparked outrage because of the clear racist undertones, with Duchess of Sussex Meghan, 37, being mixed-race.

The celebrity radio and TV host was swiftly booted by the BBC on Thursday — then griped at length about his misfortune on Friday.

In a tweetstorm supposedly offering apologies — admitting, “I f–ked up. Badly.” — the radio star’s tone suggested he still felt wronged, complaining of how he was “paying the price” for an innocent but “regrettable blunder.”

“Following one of the worst days of my life I just want to formally apologize for the outrage I caused and explain how I got myself into this mess,” Baker started his tweets. “I chose the wrong photo to illustrate a joke. Disastrously so.”

Insisting he just wanted to “lampoon privilege,” he claims he only realized the racial connotations when followers almost instantly pointed out that newborn royal Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor was mixed-race.

“Waves of panic and revulsion washed over me. F–k, what had I done?” he wrote, admitting that “the centuries slurs equating simians and people of color” was “racism at it’s basest.”

“I am aware black people do not need a white man to tell them this. Deleting it immediately and apologizing for the awful gaffe I even foolishly tried to make light of it,” he wrote, clarifying, “My situation that is, not the racism involved.”

“Too late and here I am,” he complained.

He insisted he understands “all of the clamor and opprobrium” he received, claiming, “I am not feeling sorry for myself. I f–ked up. Badly.”

Still, he ended the tweets by saying, “I am now paying the price for this crass & regrettable blunder and rightly so. Probably even this final word from me will extend the mania. (‘Dog whistle’ anyone?)”

AOC hits The Economist for linking celibacy to ‘female empowerment’

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., hit back Sunday at a magazine questioning the rise of a new wave of celibacy.

The Economist tweeted earlier in the day: “America is seeing a spike in celibacy [fueled] by economics, technology and female empowerment.”

The tweet linked to a story published last week, entitled: “No sex please, we’re millennials.”

The outspoken freshman congresswoman replied: “If you think your ‘celibacy’ is due to “female empowerment,” maybe it’s because far too many people relied on the disempowerment + silence of women to not be ‘celibate’ in the first place.”

The Economist didn’t respond to Fox News’ request for comment.

The #MeToo movement is empowering victims of sexual assault and harassment to speak up like never before, a watershed moment for holding assailants accountable.

The article aimed to figure out why “young people in America—as in Japan and some other rich countries—are having much less sex.”

It reported that the percentage of American between the ages of 18 and 29 who said they had not had sex in a year more than doubled over the last decade, reaching 23 percent last year.

Gowdy: ‘Saint James’ Comey thinks he ‘gets to write the moral script’

Westlake Legal Group James-Comey-AP Gowdy: 'Saint James' Comey thinks he 'gets to write the moral script' fox-news/topic/fox-news-flash fox-news/person/james-comey fox-news/news-events/russia-investigation fox-news/entertainment/media fox news fnc/politics fnc e9f15a42-f8b0-5baf-a82e-c091ed94280b Charles Creitz article

Former Rep. Trey Gowdy reacted Friday to former FBI Director James Comey’s appearance at a CNN town hall this week, saying that Comey believes he always “gets to write the moral script.”

“Saint James Comey,” Gowdy, R-S.C., said on “Hannity,” gave “pretty much the same as any other interview. He is always right. He gets to write the moral script.”

During the town hall, Comey said that people like outgoing Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein are not of “strong character.”

“I think people like that, like Rod Rosenstein, who are people of accomplishment but not real sterling character, strong character, find themselves trapped. And then they start telling themselves a story to justify their being trapped which is, ‘Yeah, he’s awful but the country needs me,’” Comey told host Anderson Cooper.

JAMES COMEY BLASTS ROD ROSENSTEIN, MOCKS DEPARTYIN DEPUTY AG FOR THINKING ‘THE COUNTRY NEEDS ME’

During the event, Comey also told Cooper that he tried to avoid becoming like Rosenstein and other “co-opted” members of the administration by openly disagreeing with President Trump in the Oval Office.

Gowdy told host Jason Chaffetz that Comey seemingly believes he is correct, and “everybody else is wrong.”

“When I asked Jim Comey how did the Russia investigation get started, who started it, he didn’t know it was Peter Strzok, he never read the initiation document,” Gowdy said. “Comey refuses to believe that any of these decisions should be looked at, so he is always right.”

“He and [former Director of National Intelligence James] Clapper and [former CIA Director John] Brennan are validating the concerns that other people including the president have had about their objectivity by their comments and their demeanor after they left their offices,” Gowdy added.

CONCHA: SOME PRESS COVERING TRUMP’S LEAKED TAX RETURNS SHOWING ‘THE WORST KIND OF BIAS’

Gowdy said that if Comey had not been fired, he would still be “working for an administration he thinks is too good for impeachment.”

Chaffetz said that although he’s been critical of Rosenstein and his tenure, he found Comey’s comments inappropriate.

Gowdy added that Comey exhibited “moral arrogance” with the comments.

CNN host Don Lemon accused President Trump on Thursday of trying to re-write history in order to defend his son after the Senate Intelligence Committee subpoenaed him as part of the ongoing Russia investigation.

“This is all about revisionist history, keep that in mind, the President trying to rewrite inconvenient facts,” Lemon said before playing a clip of Trump defending his son.

Trump, on Thursday, told reporters he was “surprised” by the committee’s subpoena and that Special Counsel Robert Mueller “exonerated” his son in the investigation.

“My son is a good person. He testified for hours and hours. My son was totally exonerated by Mueller who doesn’t like Trump, me,” Trump said.

According to Lemon, that was incorrect. “This is the fact: Donald Trump Jr. was not exonerated by Robert Mueller,” Lemon said. He went on to cite Mueller’s report which said it would be difficult for the government to prove “beyond a reasonable doubt” that Trump Jr. knew his conduct was unlawful during the controversial meeting at Trump Tower.

He also disputed Trump’s assertion that Mueller said there was “essentially no obstruction” on the president’s part.

Mueller’s report, as Lemon noted, stopped short of concluding that Trump obstructed justice but also indicated that Congress would have enough evidence to warrant continued investigation.

“If we had confidence after a thorough investigation of the facts that the President clearly did not commit obstruction of justice, we would so state,” the report read.

“Based on the facts and the applicable legal standards, however, we are unable to reach that judgment.”

Lemon also criticized Attorney General WIlliam Barr, arguing that he misrepresented the Mueller report findings when he released his own summary of it in March.

He was referring to the fact that Mueller told the Justice Department he took issue with the way Barr presented the findings. Mueller also clarified, however, that he didn’t mean to say that Barr’s summary was “inaccurate.”

Ben Shapiro says BBC host destroyed him, apologizes: ‘Broke my own rule… wasn’t properly prepared’

Ben Shapiro admitted on Friday he wasn’t prepared for a recent interview with BBC host Andrew Neil that resulted in the conservative star abruptly ending the segment.

“[Andrew Neil] DESTROYS Ben Shapiro! So that’s what that feels like 😉 Broke my own rule, and wasn’t properly prepared. I’ve addressed every single issue he raised before; see below. Still, it’s Neil 1, Shapiro 0,” Shapiro tweeted with a link to a Daily Wire article he penned detailing “all the dumb stuff” he’s ever done.

Shapiro appeared on the BBC to talk about his new book “The Right Side of History: How Reason and Moral Purpose Made the West Great.” However, things didn’t go as planned when Neil — who often plays devil’s advocate with his guests — pressed on old comments Shapiro had made.

Shortly after exchanging the pleasantries, Neil went on offense and drilled down on Shapiro’s views, asking the commentator whether the recent pro-life bill in Georgia is like bringing back the “Dark Ages” in the U.S.

Shapiro retaliated against Neil, a former editor of the Sunday Times and a chairman of a media group that includes right-leaning magazine The Spectator, and accused him of harboring left-wing views.

“You purport to be an objective journalist, BBC purports to be an objective, down the middle network,” Shapiro snapped. “It obviously is not, it never has been. And you as a journalist are proceeding to call one side of the political aisle ignorant, barbaric, and sending us back to the dark ages, why don’t you just say you’re on the left.”

“Mr. Shapiro, if you only knew how ridiculous that statement is you wouldn’t have said it,” Neil replied and went on to question Shapiro about comments he has made previously on abortion and transgender rights, as well as his remarks questioning the Jewishness of those voting for President Barack Obama — topics Shapiro addressed in his list of mistakes.

Soon before the interview was put to a halt, Shapiro said Neil tried to go through and find “lone things that sound bad out of context” as a way to make “a quick buck on BBC off the fact that I’m popular and no one has ever heard of you.”

“This whole thing is a waste of time. Frankly, I don’t care — I don’t frankly give a damn what you think of me since I’ve never heard of you,” he added. “I think we’re done here.”

Shapiro later admitted that his attack on Neil was misdirected, tweeting that “As I’m not familiar with him or his work, I misinterpreted his antagonism as political Leftism (he termed the pro-life position in America ‘barbaric’) – and that was apparently inaccurate. For that, I apologize.”

Once the interview aired on Friday, Shapiro admitted he wasn’t prepared and that he was losing to the BBC host.
