“The View” star Whoopi Goldberg took President Trump to task Wednesday for skipping this year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner, insisting he has “no sense of humor.”

“We have to take it… If you’re in the public eye – somebody’s got something to say. Somebody will always crack on you. What you can’t do is you can’t go after them personally. You can’t go after their family. You can’t retaliate. That’s not how that works,” Goldberg said.

“If you can’t take it, you shouldn’t be in the job, because everybody is kicking your ass as president. It doesn’t matter what side you’re on. Every president has taken it, and taken it like champs. Every one of them… He does not.”

Goldberg went on to defend the media, saying that they’ve “got it right and got it wrong” and whenever they get something wrong, they “correct it,” something she dinged the president for not doing.

Sunny Hostin and Joy Behar also piled on the president. Hostin said it’s “unfortunate” that President Trump “doesn’t seem to enjoy the fact the Constitution provides for a free press.” Behar slammed Trump for not admitting “any flaws” and believed he would “behead the jesters.”

Meanwhile, co-host Abby Huntsman insisted that President Trump “has got material to use,” suggesting that all he has to do is “play a ten-minute clip of every commentator that came out saying he was a Russian spy.”

President Trump has not attended any White House Correspondents’ Dinners since he took office. He will be holding a rally this Saturday in Green Bay, Wisconsin, the night of the event.

MSNBC anchor Stephanie Ruhle raised eyebrows Wednesday with a question she posed to Melinda Gates, asking if private philanthropy is enough or if the United States should revisit the idea of free-market capitalism.

She posed the question on her show “Velshi & Ruhle” to Gates, co-founder of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, after Gates promoted a balance between private charity and taxing the wealthy. Ruhle seemed to worry that philanthropy could “disappear” while taxes didn’t.

Gates, in response, reiterated that the U.S. needed a combination of private charity and government action. “It’s up to government to scale up those things that work. As Warren [Buffet] calls them, the gaps in capitalism that doesn’t always serve all low-income people […] It’s always up to government to scale up health and education, for instance.”

MCCONNELL VOWS TO BE ‘GRIM REAPER’ OF SOCIALIST DEM PROPOSALS

“In this society, individuals, more today than ever, have been able to amass billions of dollars in personal wealth,” Ruhle said in response. “Do we need to revisit capitalism, seeing that the disparity between the rich and the poor has become so exaggerated?” she asked.

Gates maintained that while inequality shouldn’t exist in the U.S., capitalism has remained the best economic system and should be tempered by taxes and regulation.

Their conversation came as a slew of more progressive Democrats have pushed policies — “Medicare for All,” the “Green New Deal,” free college — that many critics have described as “socialist.”

Ruhle, for her part, has been pushing the question over capitalism and socialism on Twitter.

“More and more billionaires are raising concerns over the widening income inequality gap in this country. Is it sparking a capitalism crisis?” she asked on Monday.

Joy Behar tells Kirsten Gillibrand she doesn’t believe Democrats are on even ground because they won’t ‘play dirty’

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand made an appearance on “The View” on Wednesday and found herself engaged in an awkward exchange with host Joy Behar, who told the New York politician that she doesn’t think Democrats are on the same playing field as Republicans because they refuse to “play dirty.”

The conversation between the two began with Behar again bringing up her support of former Minnesota Sen. Al Franken, who resigned in early 2018 over sexual misconduct allegations. Gillibrand was vocal about her belief that Franken should step down from his position, a move that has been brought up continuously throughout her campaign for the 2020 presidency.

Behar, who professed she has a “personal” connection to the issue because she’s a friend of Franken’s, grilled Gillibrand on whether she thought her criticisms of Franken would affect her ability to engage voters.

“Your campaign has said that your fundraising has suffered. They think it’s a backlash against your decision to lead the call for Al Franken to resign after the allegations of sexual misconduct,” Behar said. “Do you think the Democratic voters are going to turn on you for this?”

Gillibrand gave a resolute “no” in response, adding that although she does believe some wealthy Democratic donors and elites were put off by her advocating against Franken, she won’t apologize for standing up for women. That’s when Behar made a seemingly random comment about “dirty” Republicans.

“Listen, I understand where you’re coming from, I just feel like you’re playing in an uneven field with the Republicans because they will play dirty and we will not, on the Democratic side, and that could kill us,” Behar said.

She continued by quizzing Gillibrand on her thoughts about Joe Biden’s rumored announcement for a presidential run amid his own controversy surrounding his behavior toward women.

Gillibrand dodged questions about her own feelings on the matter and said that the response to Joe Biden is something that will be left up to voters.

Kirsten Gillibrand says it’s on big Democratic donors if they’re angry about Al Franken

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., stood by her decision to call for former Sen. Al Franken’s, D-Minn., resignation, telling “The View” on Wednesday she would be able to maintain voters’ support even as some influential Democratic donors refused to help her 2020 bid.

“I think there are a few influential and powerful Democratic donors and elites who are angry about it,” she told co-host Joy Behar. “But if they’re going to be angry about me standing up for women who were groped, that’s on them.”

Gillibrand’s campaign has acknowledged that Democratic donors have retaliated about the New York senator given her decision to call for Franken’s resignation amid multiple allegations of sexual misconduct.

‘THE VIEW’ CO-HOST JOY BEHAR BLASTS TRUMP OVER MUELLER REPORT OMISSION: ‘THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN THE NAIL IN THE COFFIN’

“There’s no question that the first quarter was adversely impacted by certain establishment donors — and many online — who continue to punish Kirsten for standing up for her values and for women,” a campaign memo read.

Gillibrand, like Behar, missed Franken but, as she said during a town hall in Iowa last week, she didn’t believe she could “carry his water any farther” once “credible allegations” had surfaced.

“He was someone who really served us well on the Judiciary Committee and was a strong senator but the truth is that he had eight credible allegations against him,” she previously said.

Behar worried that without those large donations, Gillibrand’s campaign faced an uneven field with Republicans who would “play dirty.” “I just feel like you’re playing in an uneven field with the Republicans because they will play dirty and we will not on the Democratic side, and that could kill us,” she said.

Behar also asked Gillibrand about accusations against former Vice President Joe Biden, who is expected to announce his 2020 candidacy on Thursday. Gillibrand responded by appearing to sidestep the question and saying “I’m sure it’s a question voters will want to ask him about — and that’s his job.”

Biden, in response to concerns about “inappropriate touching,” said that he would be more “mindful” about respecting people’s personal space.

“Politics to me has always been about making connections, but I will be more mindful about respecting personal space in the future. That’s my responsibility and I will meet it,” he said.

Long-time New York Times’ liberal columnist argues for Trump’s border wall: ‘The solution is a high wall’

President Trump has an unlikely new ally — one of The New York Times’ most liberal and well-known voices.

Thomas Friedman, a long-time member of The New York Times and columnist for the newspaper since 1995, has been scathing in his criticism of President Trump. In a column last February, the award-winning writer described Trump as the “biggest threat to the integrity of our democracy today.”

During a CNN interview, the Pulitzer Prize winner also called Trump “disturbed,” adding that if Hillary Clinton were president and “done one of the things Donald Trump” was accused of doing, she would have been impeached.

Yet, Friedman now finds himself standing on the same side as Trump on one of the president’s signature issues — the border wall.

TRUMP SAYS NEW YORK TIMES WILL HAVE TO ‘GET DOWN ON THEIR KNEES,’ ‘BEG FOR FORGIVENESS’ OVER THEIR COVERAGE

The veteran scribe’s latest column begins by detailing a recent trip he took to parts of the southern border.

“On April 12, I toured the busiest border crossing between America and Mexico — the San Ysidro Port of Entry, in San Diego — and the walls being built around it,” the piece reads.

“Guided by a U.S. Border Patrol team, I also traveled along the border right down to where the newest 18-foot-high slatted steel barrier ends and the wide-open hills and craggy valleys beckoning drug smugglers, asylum seekers and illegal immigrants begin.

“It’s a very troubling scene.”

MEDIA BUZZ: NEW YORK TIMES SAYS WHITE MALENESS MAY BE A 2020 ALBATROSS

Friedman continued: “The whole day left me more certain than ever that we have a real immigration crisis and that the solution is a high wall with a big gate — but a smart gate.”

“Without a high wall, too many Americans will lack confidence that we can control our borders, and they therefore will oppose the steady immigration we need.”

The piece continued to discuss how he believes the wall needed a “smart and compassionate” gate, and the country must welcome immigrants and asylum seekers “at a rate at which they can be properly absorbed into our society and work force.”

The column is in stark contrast to a piece published in February by the Times’ Editorial Board, titled, “Phony Wall, Phony Emergency.”

The column, published in the wake of President Trump’s national emergency declaration, charged: “In reality, the wall is not a done deal, and Mr. Trump has spent the past few months — the past two years, really — failing to convince either Congress or Mexico to pay for it. This week’s bipartisan spending bill, which contained no more wall money than the one over which Mr. Trump shut down the government in December, was a particularly humiliating defeat.”

“Desperate to save face, the president and his team cooked up a nonemergency emergency with the aim of seizing funds already appropriated for other purposes. Currently, the plan is to pull $2.5 billion from the military’s drug interdiction program, $3.6 billion from its construction budget and $600 million from the Treasury Department’s drug forfeiture fund. The White House plans to “backfill” the money it is taking from the Pentagon in future budgets.

“And so, in a breathtaking display of executive disregard for the separation of powers, the White House is thumbing its nose at Congress, the Constitution and the will of the American people, the majority of whom oppose a border wall.”

Jennifer Garner graces the front of this year’s “Beautiful Issue” of People magazine with a cover story that cheers the way she balances Hollywood, business and motherhood.

The magazine revealed the cover Tuesday of the annual issue that hits newsstands Friday.

On the cover, the Texas-born, West Virginia-raised Garner, 47, is shown sitting on the hood of a car with grassy hills in the background along with the quote, “I’m grateful every day.”

The “Alias” actress is co-founder of a baby food company, acts as an artist-ambassador for Save The Children, and is mother to three kids with ex-husband Ben Affleck: 13-year-old Violet, 10-year-old Seraphina and 7-year-old Samuel.

“I’m starting to get to the point where I realize this job is not going to be forever,” Garner told people. “Not in the all-encompassing every meal, every moment, every day way that I have loved for the last thirteen years. It’s going to shift. But there’s beauty in how it works in episodes.”

Garner said that when she arrives home from a fancy photo shoot, her kids object to her glam get-up and want their mother back.

“They’ll look at me and say, ‘Can you wash your face? Can you put your hair in a ponytail and put your glasses and sweats on?'” Garner said. “And I see the compliment in that. They just want me to look like Mom.”

Last year the magazine rebranded its “Most Beautiful” issue as “The Beautiful Issue,” to make clear, its editors said, that it’s not a contest.

CNN chief media correspondent Brian Stelter slammed the Trump administration for skipping this year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner (WHCD), calling it an “attack against the media.”

Fox News learned on Tuesday that nobody from the administration will be attending the annual event, though no official announcement has been made. President Trump announced earlier this month that he would not attend the April 27 dinner, instead opting for a rally in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

“The dinner is so boring and so negative that we’re going to hold a very positive rally instead,” Trump said.

President Trump has not attended the WHCD since taking office.

Stelter praised the “value” of the event, acknowledging that it’s a fundraiser for journalism scholarships and a celebration of the First Amendment, along with being an opportunity for White House aides to “schmooze” with reporters. He called it a “tradition” for presidents that has been “put on pause” under Trump.

“Look, it’s yet another example of what we’re seeing- the administration’s attack against the media. It takes many forms,” Stelter told CNN’s Brooke Baldwin.

The “Reliable Sources” host also referred to Trump’s scheduled rally during the WHCD as another “form” of an attack against the media.

Last year, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders attended the event but was harshly ridiculed by comedian Michelle Wolf. The backlash the 2018 WHCD received prompted the White House Correspondents’ Association to revamp the dinner, choosing not to invite a comedian to emcee the event this year. Instead, the group chose historian and writer Ron Chernow.

One year after she claimed to be a victim of a cyber attack targeting her now-defunct blog, it seems MSNBC host Joy Reid never found the alleged perpetrators.

In December 2017, Mediaite discovered a trove of anti-gay articles written by Reid from 2007-2009 on a political blog called “The Reid Report” years before she was hired by MSNBC. At the time, Reid issued an apology, calling her remarks “insensitive, tone deaf and dumb” and vowed to “do better” going forward.

However, after Mediaite found even more homophobic articles in April 2018, Reid claimed that an “unknown, external party accessed and manipulated material” on her old blog and “fabricated” the offensive entries and that she was working with a “cyber-security expert” and “notified federal law enforcement officials.”

Days later, Reid’s attorney John H. Reichman confirmed that the FBI had “opened an investigation into potential criminal activities surrounding several online accounts, including personal email and blog accounts” belonging to the MSNBC host.

JOY REID THREATENED COLLEAGUE WITH VIOLENCE, EX-BOSSES SAY

Upon scrutiny, skeptics have said Reid’s claims don’t pass muster. The Daily Beast, which had suspended Reid as a contributor, conducted its own investigation and concluded that claims made by Reid’s cyber-security expert Jonathan Nichols that “screenshot manipulation” took place were false. Critics have pointed to the Internet archival service The Wayback Machine, which showed that the anti-gay articles were preserved at the time they were written and refuted the suggestion that hackers could have manipulated their archives.

Reid addressed the controversy the following week on her show. Although she did offer an apology, she did not take ownership of her blog posts like she did in her first apology, telling her viewers, “I genuinely do not believe I wrote those hateful things because they are completely alien to me.” Many of her MSNBC colleagues expressed their support for her at the time.

Washington Free Beacon’s Alex Griswold commemorated the one-year anniversary with a satirical piece, noting that he had reached out to Reid’s attorney last week regarding the status of the FBI’s investigation into the alleged hacking and got no response but received an auto-reply on Monday with Reichman saying that he would “be overseas” until April 29. In May, Netflix will release a documentary that follows four progressive, female candidates trying to overtake the Democratic establishment during the 2018 midterm elections.

Titled “Knock Down the House,” the film will focus on Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., Amy Vilela of Nevada, Cori Bush of Missouri, and Jean Swearengin of West Virginia.

“Without political experience or corporate money, they build a movement of insurgent candidates challenging powerful incumbents in Congress,” the film’s website reads. “Their efforts result in a legendary upset.”

According to Ocasio-Cortez, the documentary includes footage that she and the other three women agreed to shoot during their campaigns. The trailer, which Ocasio-Cortez, tweeted on Monday, shows the Democratic representative appearing to describe how daring she was in challenging an establishment candidate like former Rep. Joe Crowley, D-N.Y.

“We’re doing something very controversial. People say ‘How dare you mount a challenge to someone who is so established?'” the freshman congresswoman says while dramatic music plays in the background. During another part of the documentary, she adds that she isn’t a “rational person.”

“If I were a rational person, I would have dropped out of this race a long time ago,” she said in the trailer.

The movie, which Vox described as “obviously a liberal feel-good movie,” focuses on progressives, according to the trailer, rather than the broader field of female candidates during the election.

Documentarian Rachel Lears started pursuing the project the day after Trump’s election. In the trailer above, as well as another posted to the film’s Facebook page, Ocasio-Cortez and the others are portrayed as fighters who others “underestimate.” “When someone looks at me, the bias would be to not take me seriously until I open my mouth,” she said, smiling.

“People try to use the fact that I’m a black woman to hold me back,” then-candidate Cori Bush says in one of the teasers.

The documentary came on the heels of another, shorter video in which Ocasio-Cortez portrayed herself as a visionary whose “Green New Deal” helps rescue the United States’ economy from the effects of climate change.

Ocasio-Cortez’s presence in the Democratic Party has caused somewhat of a rift with leadership which has dismissed the New York congresswoman and others as “like five people.” But Ocasio-Cortez, along with newcomer Reps. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., and Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., have captured a significant amount of media attention since taking office.

Tlaib and Ocasio-Cortez have already thrown themselves into a battle that seemed to divide the Democratic Party before the 2020 election. While more progressive politicians like those two and Warren have pushed impeaching Trump, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., have been more hesitant.

NBA Twitter came after a troll hard after the person tweeted a hateful message toward ESPN reporter Royce Young following a game between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday night.

Young, who covers the Thunder for ESPN, received the awful message after tweeting about Russell Westbrook during his press conference, according to Awful Announcing.

The tweet targeted Young and his wife, who lost their daughter in 2017 when she was stillborn.

Young responded to the tweet, saying “I know you’re just some anonymous moron on Twitter but I’d like you to know that this hurt my feelings. I know that’s what you were going for and congrats, you succeeded.”

Yahoo Sports reporter Keith Smith screen-capped the interaction between Young and the troll.

NBA fans and reporters also tweeted their support for the longtime Thunder beat writer.

Keri Young, Royce’s wife, later revealed that neonatal organ donation has seen a 300 percent increase “because of their daughter’s legacy” and urged more people to donate to the cause.

The person who tweeted the original message appeared to delete their account soon after the comment was made. Another person with the same handle as the original troll seemingly took the person’s handle and used it to apologize to Young.
