MSNBC host Chris Hayes is facing criticism for his praise of freshman congresswoman Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., and what he calls her “consistent” voice in human rights violations in the Middle East.

Omar took to Twitter on Tuesday to call out Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi during his visit to the White House by expressing solidarity with the Egyptian people.

“No ally is above reproach. We should not be enabling broadscale human rights violations,” Omar tweeted from her official congressional account. “We must show solidarity with those brave Egyptians who continue to struggle for their internationally-recognized rights.”

One liberal cable news host took notice.

“I’d say Omar is one of the most consistent voices for human rights in the Middle East across the various governments and regimes,” Hayes declared.

Many blasted Hayes’ tweet, some calling it a “delusional” take.

Others invoked what they suggest is Omar’s silence of Hamas and the terror organization’s continued violence against Israelis.

MSNBC host Chris Matthews blasted President Donald Trump for playing the “political sidekick” of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

In recent weeks, the Trump administration has recognized Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights and declared Iran’s Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization. President Trump also welcomed Netanyahu to the White House in late March.

Matthews accused the president of breaking tradition with his predecessors by staying out of Israeli politics, but as Newsbusters pointed out, he overlooked the Obama State Department’s financial contribution of taxpayer money to OneVoice, an Israeli political group and opponent of Netanyahu.

In a tight race for re-election, Israel’s prime minister has gotten a welcome lift from his friend in the White House. In the run-up to the April 9 vote, Netanyahu has hosted Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, visited Trump in the White House and received American recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, which Israel seized from Syria during the 1967 Mideast war. “American presidents from both of our parties have abstained from getting involved in Israeli politics, opting instead of playing two roles; friend of Israel but also a regional honest broker. But not this time,” Matthews told his audience. “President Trump broke with his predecessors, taking a number of steps to help insure that his friend Bibi Netanyahu was victorious today.”

The “Hardball” host continued, ”Always, our president from Eisenhower — from all the way up to W, although some lean towards Israel, some leaned against them a little bit… they’ve always played this other role as honest broker in the region so they can bring peace and play a bigger global role than just being buddies with Israel. This President has ignored his global role, ignored the role — forfeited that of peacemaker or honest broker and just played political sidekick of Bibi.”

Local Israeli reports have suggested that after a very tight race, Netanyahu will hold onto his office and form a fifth government.

Many Americans believe network news channels lean to the left, few see CNN as neutral, poll finds

Many Americans believe the vast majority of media outlets have a liberal slant, most believe the media is too quick to get out in front of breaking news and a paltry 12 percent see CNN as neutral, according to a poll released Tuesday.

According to a study of roughly 2,200 Americans conducted by The Hollywood Reporter and Morning Consult, 46 percent believe CNN leans more liberal and 43 percent believe MSNBC leans similarly.

The broadcast networks also ranked high as with a perceived liberal slant. Some 34 percent believe ABC leans liberal, 35 percent believe CBS does, and 36 percent believe NBC does.

Conversely, 51 percent of Americans believe Fox News leans conservative.

Only 12 percent of Americans believe CNN, the network that claims to be neutral and that its anchors are not biased, has no political leaning.

The majority of Americans find several outlets as “credible,” including 63 percent who say ABC and CBS are; 61 percent who say NBC is; 57 percent who say The Wall Street Journal is; 53 percent who say CNN and The New York Times are; and 52 percent who say Fox News is. Less than half of Americans view MSNBC, The Washington Post and NPR as credible.

Some 40 percent of Americans believe there should be less television coverage of politics. At the same time, 40 percent believe there should be more coverage of world events.

A staggering 72 percent said the media offer too much analysis on breaking news before the facts are confirmed. The same percentage of people claimed the media “over-analyzes events that eventually lose importance.”

‘American Psycho’ author Bret Easton Ellis wants ‘apology’ from media over Mueller report coverage

Bret Easton Ellis, the author of “American Psycho,” wants an apology from the mainstream media over its coverage of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia probe report.

On his newest podcast, Ellis slammed the “crazy dishonest press” for “misleading the country for the last two years,” according to The Wrap.

Late last month, Mueller’s office handed its final report of its Russia investigation to the Department of Justice. The long-awaited report, according to a letter to Congress released at the time by Attorney General Bill Barr, concluded that there was no collusion between Russia and the Trump presidential campaign. Mueller’s investigation, which was initially ordered to look into the 2016 election in 2017, went on for almost two years.

MUELLER SUBMITS LONG-AWAITED RUSSIA PROBE REPORT TO JUSTICE DEPARTMENT

“I want to state that I am not a Republican, I am not a conservative, I am not part of the right wing, I did not vote for Trump, I am not part of the alt-right, I am not interested in politics,” Ellis began.

“Because I make fun of hysterical liberals — and why shouldn’t I?” he continued. “I live with one — as well as the crazy dishonest press, people think I am defending Trump. I don’t think it is about defending Trump at all, who I don’t care enough about, as much as it is about being lied to by the media.”

Ellis went on to say that “there is no way to get around the fact that the mainstream media misled the country for the last two years.”

“Period,” he noted. “I’m not saying that as a conservative, or as a liberal. I’m saying it simply as a witness.”

“This was the dead-end result of the mass psychosis on the left, the dead-end of Trump derangement syndrome, that is alive and well in our country, especially in the media, and is making them all look like fools.

— Bret Easton Ellis

According to the news outlet, Ellis pointed out that Mueller’s office had filed multiple indictments, but added that the coverage by news outlets made it seem as if President Trump’s indictment was a near-certainty.

“This was the dead-end result of the mass psychosis on the left, the dead-end of Trump derangement syndrome, that is alive and well in our country, especially in the media, and is making them all look like fools,” Ellis said. “Absolute fools. And they should be humiliated by what they were perpetrating.”

MAINSTREAM MEDIA, CELEBRITIES STUNNED AS MUELLER REPORT FILED WITH NO NEW INDICTMENTS PLANNED

Ellis added that the full Mueller report has not been made public yet. On Tuesday, Barr vowed to release a redacted version “within a week,” as he pushed back at Democrats blasting him for what they called his “unacceptable” handling of the initial summary.

“There can be horrible shocking things in it that will implicate everyone from Don Jr. to Ivanka to Jared to Kid Rock,” Ellis said before demanding an apology from his “friends” who perpetuated “that the Mueller report was definitely going to implicate Trump in collusion with Russia.”

“With that in mind, however, I would like an apology,” Ellis said. “From every one of my friends or acquaintances or anyone I encountered on social media or watched blather away on TV for the last two years who insisted that the Mueller report was definitely going to implicate Trump in collusion with Russia, and will determine that the Russians stole the 2016 election away from Hillary Clinton and our whole national nightmare will finally be over, because the Mueller report will implicate Trump and he will be impeached. I want an apology.”

“But I’m not going to get an apology,” he lamented, per The Wrap. “Because y’all is f–ing crazy.”

CNBC video on tipping slammed as unfair to waiters

CNBC is receiving plenty of blowback for a video offering advice on how to save money when dining out at restaurants — by tipping waiters a little less.

The network tweeted a video Sunday linked to a February 2018 story. In the video, Zack Guzman — at the time a multimedia reporter for the network — offered viewers a “simple tipping trick” that he said could save consumers over $400 a year.

Guzman explained that it’s customary to tip servers 15-20 percent according to the Emily Post Institute, a leading etiquette authority. Still, he posed the question of whether you should tip pre-tax or post-tax, showing a bill for a $100 meal had an additional tax of roughly $8. He referred to tipping pre-tax as a potential “game changer.”

He then suggested to viewers that instead of moving the decimal over from the total and doubling it, which is a common way for diners to calculate the tip, to simply double the tax. Guzman concluded that on his bill, he would save $4 and still tip roughly 18 percent tip, saying that if you dined out twice a week for a year, you could save $416.

The video sparked backlash on social media and was ratio’d on Twitter, meaning it had more responses than likes and retweets.

Guzman responded to critics, arguing that calling out hard-working people who tip less than 20 percent is “just as unfair” as under-tipping a server.

“At no point do I argue not tipping a server. At no point do I argue how to tip. At no point do I say tip less than 15 percent,” Guzman said. “Quite frankly, I was just interested in the fact that some people double the tax to arrive at a tip while others move the decimal to calculate 20 percent like me.”

Guzman also said he’d moved on from CNBC to Yahoo! Finance.

CNBC did not immediately respond to Fox News’ request for comment.
