Hogan Gidley says Trump critics shouldn’t be taking cues from Al Sharpton amid Cummings row

MSNBC host and civil rights leader Rev. Al Sharpton is the last figure people should be taking advice from, according to Deputy White House Press Secretary Hogan Gidley.

Sharpton, who tweeted he will travel to Baltimore amid the controversy between President Trump and Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., has a history of controversies himself, Gidley claimed Monday on “The Todd Starnes Show.”

“Political theater is not even a strong enough term but it’s just what Al Sharpton does,” he said.

‘I think everyone knows that now, and I’m not going to take a lesson in how to treat the races from Al Sharpton.”

TRUMP BLASTS ‘CON MAN’ AL SHARPTON, AS FEUD WITH DEMS OVER BALTIMORE HEATS UP

Earlier Monday, Sharpton drew Trump’s ire over his tweet announcing a trip to the Baltimore, with the president calling the New York-based activist a, “con man and a troublemaker.”

“I have known Al for 25 years. Went to fights with him & Don King, always got along well,” the president tweeted.

On MSNBC, Sharpton claimed Republicans in congressional Republicans suddenly have “laryngitis” in refusing to condemn Trump’s criticisms of Cummings.

“We must say that we may not get him directly to ever grow up, but we can certainly make those around him know that you’re going to go down with him or you’re going to stand up with us,” Sharpton said, noting Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell faces his next reelection in Kentucky in 2020.

Speaking with Starnes, Gidley claimed the president enacts policies without regard to a person’s background, and Sharpton’s history should preclude others from listening to him on the matter.

“He has done things regardless of race, color, creed, and gender because he wants everybody in America to succeed,” he said of Trump.

‘The View’ co-host Meghan McCain concerned conservatives ‘only see race-baiting’ because of Trump

Westlake Legal Group Trump-McCain_AP-Getty 'The View' co-host Meghan McCain concerned conservatives 'only see race-baiting' because of Trump fox-news/politics fox-news/media fox-news/entertainment/media fox news fnc/media fnc Brian Flood b072f995-515e-5c9e-a499-7ba7b6b5e88b article

ABC News’ “The View” co-host Meghan McCain is concerned that the future of the Republican Party will be impacted by President Trump’s “race-baiting” rhetoric.

“As someone who is I think one of the three Republicans or conservatives on this entire network, I’m always concerned about the next generation coming up. And young people that are interested in conservative ideals only see this. They only see race-baiting,” McCain said on Monday.

McCain was referring to Trump’s weekend Twitter attack on Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., and his congressional district in Baltimore. Trump on Saturday branded Cummings a “brutal bully” and described his district as a “disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess.”

McCain said that young conservatives “only see the Trump administration,” and it could have a lasting impact on the GOP.

CNN CONTRIBUTOR JOE LOCKHART SAYS ALL TRUMP SUPPORTERS ARE RACIST: ‘DON’T HIDE IT LIKE A COWARD’

“What Republicans should be most concerned about right now, well, from my perspective, is what comes next,” McCain said. “At a certain point you’re going to have a bunch of millennials who think the entire Republican Party is… the person in charge thinks that all communities of color are infested.”

Despite being one of the few Republicans on ABC News, McCain has been a frequent critic of Trump, who famously feuded with her late father, Sen. John McCain.

McCain also appeared on ABC’s “This Week with George Stephanopoulos” on Sunday where she made a similar point.

“When the president puts out tweets like this, it just fumbles over his own narrative,” McCain said. “He seems to be race baiting and moving on top of the incendiary comments about sending a congresswoman back from last week.”

McCain told Stephanopoulos she is “worried” about the next generation of conservatives.

“This is what they’re going to see. They’re going to see these headlines and instead of talking about the substance that really matters, we’re talking about whether the president is racist or not,” she said.

Meghan Markle added another job title to her impressive resume, which runs the gamut from calligrapher to “Deal or No Deal” model to “Suits” star to philanthropist and Duchess of Sussex: She’s now the guest editor of Vogue U.K.’s all-important September issue.

The theme of Duchess Meghan’s featured issue of the fashion Bible is “Forces for Change,” focusing on women who’ve made a difference in the world. The cover features photos of all the women profiled in the piece, as well as a small mirror to inspire readers to be their own forces for change.

Some of the influential women featured include Jane Fonda, Salma Hayek, Christy Turlington, model Adwoa Aboah, diversity advocate Sinead Burke, “The Good Place” star Jameela Jamil, author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, “Orange is the New Black” star Laverne Cox, “Crazy Rich Asians” star Gemma Chan, “Grown-ish” star Yara Shahidi and teenage climate change activist Greta Thunberg.

MEGHAN MARKLE’S HALF-BROTHER BEGS QUEEN ELIZABETH TO MEND ROYAL FAMILY FEUD

Within the issue are also interviews with Michelle Obama and Jane Goodall, who recently met with Prince Harry and his and Duchess Meghan’s son Archie.

Duchess Meghan herself doesn’t appear on the cover.

MEGHAN MARKLE, PRINCE HARRY’S NEW FOUNDATION NAME REVEALED

Vogue U.K. editor-in-chief Edward Enniful said of the choice, “From the very beginning, we talked about the cover — whether she would be on it or not. In the end, she felt that it would be in some ways a ‘boastful’ thing to do for this particular project. She wanted, instead, to focus on the women she admires.”

Duchess Meghan, 37, said in a statement, “These last seven months have been a rewarding process, curating and collaborating with Edward Enninful, British Vogue’s Editor-in-Chief, to take the year’s most-read fashion issue and steer its focus to the values, causes and people making impact in the world today.”

MEGHAN MARKLE HAS STRUGGLED WITH ‘INTENSITY OF THE SPOTLIGHT’

She continued, “Through this lens I hope you’ll feel the strength of the collective in the diverse selection of women chosen for the cover as well as the team of support I called upon within the issue to help bring this to light. I hope readers feel as inspired as I do, by the ‘Forces for Change’ they’ll find within these pages.”

MEGHAN MARKLE SAYS PUBLIC DOESN’T MAKE THINGS ‘EASY’ FOR HER AND PRINCE HARRY

Cox wrote on Instagram, “I am completely overwhelmed and overjoyed to share this cover. Being on the cover of Vogue magazine has been a dream of mine since I was a child. To get to share this cover with this group of women who inspire me, who are truly forces for change is deeply humbling. That it’s @britishvogue is even more special to me because British Vogue was the first to feature a black model on its cover, Donyale Luna in May 1966. Thank you so much @edward_enninful and guest editor Her Royal Highness, The Duchess of Sussex for including me. Thank you to the entire team at Vogue for making this experience truly divine. #TransIsBeautiful.”

Shahidi also thanked Duchess Meghan for being featured, writing,  “Thank you @edward_enninful and the amazing HRH Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex @sussexroyal for considering me one of the #ForcesForChange for @BritishVogue, amongst these incredible change makers, and for using this iconic platform to continue to shift narratives and expand the role of fashion.”

Gemma Chan also expressed her joy at being a cover girl.

Duchess Meghan shared a video preview of her “Forces for Change” collaboration and wrote on her @SussexRoyal account, “Guest editing the September issue of British Vogue has been rewarding, educational and inspiring. To deep dive into this process, working quietly behind the scenes for so many months, I am happy to now be able to share what we have created. A huge thanks to all of the friends who supported me in this endeavor, lending their time and energy to help within these pages and on the cover. Al Sharpton urges 2020 Dems to skip ‘political cannibalism,’ focus on taking down Trump

The Rev. Al Sharpton warned Democratic presidential candidates Friday against engaging in “political cannibalism” during the nomination process and urged them to focus on the bigger picture of defeating President Trump in the general election.

Sharpton, who founded the civil rights advocacy group National Action Network, also addressed the political infighting between Democratic frontrunner Joe Biden and black Sens. Kamala Harris and Cory Booker, both of whom challenged the former vice president’s record on civil rights.

JOE BIDEN WARNS HE WON’T BE ‘AS POLITE THIS TIME’ WHEN HE FACES KAMALA HARRIS IN NEXT DEBATE

“Let’s stop here now, because all of us in public life have done things you could capitalize on,” Sharpton said Friday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” Sharpton explained that by fighting among themselves, the 2020 Democratic hopefuls “do Trump’s job for him.”

“None of us are diametrically opposed to the voting rights and gender rights and LGBTQ rights and civil rights of people like Donald Trump is,” Sharpton said of the Democratic 2020 hopefuls. “Save your fire for the main event. Don’t shoot all your bullets now and come into the main event with an empty gun.”

Speaking to African-American voters at the NAACP convention in Los Angeles on Wednesday, Biden said he’s not going to be “as polite” with Harris during next week’s round of Democratic presidential debates in Detroit.

During their debate in Miami in June, Harris confronted Biden on his opposition decades ago to federally mandated school busing. That same night, the California Democrat also criticized comments Biden had made about his ability to find common ground during the 1970s with segregationist senators with whom he disagreed.

During Wednesday’s convention, Booker, a Democrat from New Jersey, also challenged Biden’s support of a 1994 Clinton-era crime bill that critics claim was responsible for the mass incarceration of black men in the U.S. Biden countered by criticizing the so-called “stop-and-frisk” tactic used against African-American men in Newark, N.J., while Booker was mayor there from 2006 to 2013.

Sharpton wrapped up his appearance on the MSNBC program by recommending the Democratic candidates define their differences and not waste too much energy and fire “when it ought to be all directed at who’s trying to turn back the clock in this country,” a jab directed aimed at President Trump.

Mike Huckabee: Pelosi a ‘capable’ leader but not used to ‘mutiny’ in her ranks

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is an experienced Democratic lawmaker but is not accustomed to stark disagreements within her caucus, according to former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.

The 17-term legislator’s caucus has many moderate and center-left Democrats, but the progressive wing has become more vocal in recent months, Huckabee said Friday on “Hannity.”

“I’ve got a lot of respect for Nancy Pelosi — may not agree with her, hope she is not the speaker next time — but she is a very capable, experienced, and very able legislator. … But this is something she’s not used to, which is mutiny within her own ranks,” he said

FLASHBACK: HOUSE VOTES TO KILL REP. AL GREEN’S RESOLUTION TO IMPEACH TRUMP

In regard to calls for impeaching President Trump, Huckabee said Pelosi is effectively, “trying to ride both sides of the see-saw, which is impossible.”

While the more moderate wing of the party is reticent to begin impeachment proceedings, House Democrats such as Al Green of Texas, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan have made statements in support of the move.

Green, of Houston, has taken the additional step of introducing articles of impeachment multiple times.

A total of 137 Democrats voted in favor of tabling Green’s latest impeachment resolution — compared to just 95 who voted against shelving it. Only one lawmaker, Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Ore., voted present.

“She’s got all of these very radical leftist loons in her party that are taking the party away from her,” Huckabee told guest host Jason Chaffetz on Friday. “But, she’s also got reasonable Democrats across the country who will never go that far.

“If the party nominates somebody as far left as most of the people on that stage — if they continue to let people like Ocasio-Cortez be the voice of the party … I think then the Democrats have got a real problem on her hands.”

Fox News’ Andrew O’Reilly contributed to this report.

Lara Trump lashes out after CNN host accuses her of ‘lying’ about rally crowd’s ‘Send her back!’ chant

Lara Trump fired back Saturday against critics who’ve asserted that the “Send her back!” chant at President Trump’s recent rally in North Carolina was planned, instead of a spontaneous crowd response.

“Anyone insinuating that there was some premeditated plan to orchestrate the ‘send her back’ chant is obviously desperate to continue pushing a biased, racially-charged narrative,” the president’s daughter-in-law wrote on Twitter on Saturday.

“Anyone insinuating that there was some premeditated plan to orchestrate the ‘send her back’ chant is obviously desperate to continue pushing a biased, racially-charged narrative.”

— Lara Trump

She added the hashtag, #FakeNews.

Lara Trump’s message was in response to a Saturday article in the Washington Examiner that reported CNN’s Anderson Cooper had criticized her on Friday’s edition of his nightly program, “Anderson Cooper 360.”

TRUMP SLAMS PROGRESSIVE CONGRESSWOMEN AT FIERY ‘MAGA’ RALLY IN NORTH CAROLINA

“She’s just friggin’ lying,” Cooper said at one point, accusing the wife of Eric Trump of misrepresenting the North Carolina situation during her interview earlier Friday on Fox Business, the Examiner reported.

“She’s just friggin’ lying.”

— CNN’s Anderson Cooper

Lara Trump had said that the “send her back” chant – which the crowd directed at Somali-born U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn. – was not prompted and that President Trump did not join in.

Lara Trump took issue with some remarks that CNN’s Anderson Cooper made Friday, according to a report.

“It wasn’t the whole crowd,” she added. “It was just a couple of people right there in the front, but [the president] didn’t say it.”

But Cooper argued that Lara Trump had “primed” the crowd during her warm-up speech prior to the president’s appearance Wednesday in Greenville, N.C., the Examiner reported.

“If you don’t love our country, the president said it, ‘You can leave,’ right?” Lara Trump is heard saying in a video clip before the president took the stage.

But Lara Trump was not shown coaching the crowd to chant, “Send her back!” — contrary to what Cooper appeared to be suggesting.

Following Wednesday’s rally, critics of President Trump latched onto the chant to advance their argument that some Twitter messages from the president earlier in the week – targeting Omar and other far-left House Democrats known as “The Squad” – were racist.

But the president pushed back against the racism argument, saying he was merely opposing what he viewed as the Democrats’ negative attitudes toward America – and that his tweets had nothing to do with race.

“I was not happy with it, I disagree with it,” President Trump said Thursday, referring to the rally crowd’s “Send her back!” chant. “But again, I didn’t say that, they did.”

Guest co-host Ana Navarro made the embarrassing blunder when she quizzed Hickenlooper on a memorable moment from the first round of debates that the candidate himself did not recall — for good reason.

“I remember from the first debate Amy Klobuchar slapped you down pretty hard when you said that line, that you were the only one that had done something on — on, you know, abortion rights and she said there are three women on the stage,” Navarro said to Hickenlooper.

“What are you going to do to distinguish yourself? How do you distinguish yourself in such a field?”

The 2020 hopeful then corrected Navarro, telling her “that wasn’t to me” and later saying he was on the other debate night. The hosts then determined that it was Inslee who boasted his record on abortion rights.

“All white people look alike, apparently,” Joy Behar quipped.

Navarro, who is also a CNN commentator, blasted Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla, for calling out “self-righteous hypocrites” amid the uproar of President Trump’s attacks on the Democratic “Squad.”

Former First Lady Michelle Obama has seemingly taken a shot at President Trump amid his ongoing feud with four progressive congresswomen, saying “there’s a place” for natural-born citizens and refugees alike.

Tensions escalated this week when the president blasted the Democratic “squad,” Reps Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., and Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., suggesting on Twitter that they “go back” to the countries they came. All four women are U.S. citizens, with Omar being the only one who was born outside of the U.S.

After exchanging several barbs during the week, Trump continued his attacks during Wednesday’s rally, during which a “send her back” chant aimed at Omar broke out from his supporters.

On Friday, the former first lady tweeted what seemed to be a rebuke of the remarks — while stopping short of mentioning the president directly.

MICHELLE OBAMA: THE NIGHT BEFORE TRUMP’S INAUGURATION WAS ‘VERY EMOTIONAL’

“What truly makes our country great is its diversity,” Mrs. Obama tweeted. “I’ve seen that beauty in so many ways over the years. Whether we are born here or seek refuge here, there’s a place for us all. We must remember it’s not my America or your America. It’s our America.”

Her husband, former President Barack Obama, has not commented in on the feud.

While the Obamas have largely avoided weighing in on political matters since leaving the White House, Friday’s comments are not the first time the former first lady has seemingly tweaked Trump.

“The leader of the free world with a tweet can start a war, can crush an economy, can change the future of our children,” she told Gayle King of CBS News at the Essence Festival in New Orleans earlier this month.

She added the next president needs to have “deep seriousness and focus” and operate “with a clear base of facts and ideas.” She also said she thinks her husband sometimes made the presidency look easy.

“I guess it’s kind of like if the black guy can do it, anybody can do it — and that’s not true. It’s a hard job.”
