Prince Harry sues 2 British tabloids over alleged voicemail hacking

Prince Harry is suing two British tabloid newspapers, accusing them of hacking his phone and stealing voice messages.

The claims against the Daily Mirror and The Sun were filed in the High Court of Justice on Harry’s behalf and involve “illegal interception of voicemail messages,” Buckingham Palace confirmed on Saturday to The Associated Press.

The announcement comes four days after Harry’s American wife Meghan Markle filed a claim against the Mail on Sunday and its parent company Associated Newspapers, alleging “the intrusive and unlawful publication of a private letter” written by the Duchess of Sussex. The Guardian reported that the letter was penned by Markle to her estranged father.

MEGHAN MARKLE SUES BRITISH TABLOID, PRINCE HARRY SPEAKS OUT: ‘MY DEEPEST FEAR IS HISTORY REPEATING ITSELF’

The Sun is owned by News Group Newspapers, a subsidiary of News Group — which is a sister company of Fox Corporation, which owns Fox News Group. The newspaper acknowledged Harry’s legal action. Reach plc, which owns the Daily Mirror, said it was “aware that proceedings have been issued” but hasn’t yet received notice of them.

MEGHAN MARKLE USING AFRICA TOUR TO REPAIR ‘TARNISHED’ REPUTATION: REPORT

On Tuesday, Harry issued a statement condemning the “British tabloid press” for running a “ruthless campaign” against his wife “that has escalated over the past year.”

“Up to now, we have been unable to correct the continual misrepresentations — something that these select media outlets have been aware of and have therefore exploited on a daily and sometimes hourly basis,” Harry noted.

The prince also said his “deepest fear is history repeating itself.”

“I’ve seen what happens when someone I love is commoditized to the point that they are no longer treated or seen as a real person. I lost my mother and now I watch my wife falling victim to the same powerful forces,” he said in a reference to his mother, Princess Diana, who died in a 1997 car crash while trying to elude paparazzi in Paris.

A TIMELINE OF THE ROYAL FAMILY’S MOST INFAMOUS FEUDS

British tabloid newspapers have paid millions of dollars to settle claims that their employees had hacked the phone voicemails of celebrities, politicians and others in the public eye.

Harry and William have long had a strained relationship with the press. They grew up in the spotlight and were young boys when their parents’ acrimonious divorce received wall-to-wall coverage.

MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow declares Trump will be ‘impeached,’ suggests Barr, Pompeo could ‘find their necks at risk’

Liberal MSNBC host Rachel Maddow declared without hesitation Tuesday night that President Trump “will be impeached” and suggested that Attorney General William Barr and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo could also “find their necks at risk.”

Appearing on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” Maddow began by laughing about the simplicity of the Ukraine scandal since Trump openly admitted to having the conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about investigating the Bidens and provided the “evidence.”

“In terms of whodunnit, he did it and he admits it, and now he’s going to be impeached for it,” Maddow said to a cheering audience.

Maddow expressed skepticism about whether Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., will keep his word and take a potential Trump impeachment to trial in the Senate, but she saw the possibility of Republican lawmakers turning on the president down the road.

“This behavior by the president is so simple and it’s so indefensible, you can’t go to another country and ask them for help against your likely opponent in the next election. You just can’t,” Maddow explained. “And it may be that Republicans decide either to save their own skins or because of their conscience or their patriotism that they want to be on the right side of history on this. And I don’t think they’re deciding now. I think they’ll decide as it plays out.”

When asked by Stephen Colbert if Barr and Pompeo were “political sacrificial lambs” for their involvement in the probes into the origins of the Russia investigation as well as the Ukraine controversy, Maddow responded by implying they’re in hot water as well.

“When it comes to Secretary of State Pompeo and Attorney General Barr, they are people who do not have the kind of immunity from prosecution that the president does. We have put an attorney general in prison in the past in this country for participating in presidential schemes,” Maddow continued. “If Barr and Pompeo were participating in this, and ultimately if there’s going to be accountability for, they’re not only in moral trouble, they could potentially be in real ethical and legal trouble and I think that matters to both of them.

“I think they’ll take it so far, but ultimately, both of them are going to find their necks at risk here.”

Rudy Giuliani blasts Biden camp for trying to ‘silence’ him, claims Democrats are ‘party of corruption’

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani blasted the Biden camp for what he characterized as trying to “silence” him by encouraging media outlets not to book him on-air.

Giuliani also claimed Monday on “Hannity” the Democrats are going to turn into the “party of corruption.”

“It is outrageous,” he said, explaining allegations of unsubstantiated wrongdoing involving Hunter Biden, the 49-year-old son of former Vice President Joe Biden. “The only really sad part of this is how much in-the-tank and how corrupt the media have become.”

“He is a laughing stock,” Giuliani said of Biden.

BIDEN SEEKS TO BAR GIULIANI FROM TV NEWS, AFTER TRUMP LAWYER ALLEGES POSSIBLE BIDEN CORRUPTION

He claimed Biden was dispatched to Ukraine while in the Obama administration with the goal of rooting out corruption, but instead watched as Hunter Biden did work on the board of a Ukrainian natural gas company.

Giuliani also said that, while accusations against Hunter Biden go without much attention in the media, a lot of attention has been paid to the contents of a phone call between President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that was exposed by a whistleblower.

“They make up charges against President Trump that are not true,” he said.

HILLARY CLINTON CALLS TRUMP ‘ILLEGITIMATE PRESIDENT’ AND ‘CORRUPT HUMAN TORNADO’

Regarding the Biden campaign expressing to major media outlets their concern over having Giuliani on air, the former mayor said the reasoning is obvious.

More from Media

“Why do you think they’re silencing me?” he asked.

“Because I’m not making any valid points? They’re silencing me because I showed up with an affidavit yesterday — an accuser who’s willing to stand up and point the finger at Joe Biden and say ‘you’re a crook’.”

The Biden campaign wrote to NBC News, CBS News, Fox News, and CNN to voice “grave concern that you continue to book Rudy Giuliani on your air to spread false, debunked conspiracy theories on behalf of Donald Trump,” according to The Daily Beast, which first reported the existence of the letter.

GIULIANI WASN’T WORKING ALONE IN BIDEN UKRAINE PROBE

The memo, drafted by Biden aides Kate Bedingfield and Anita Dunn, continued: “While you often fact check his statements in real-time during your discussions, that is no longer enough. By giving him your air time, you are allowing him to introduce increasingly unhinged, unfounded and desperate lies into the national conversation.”

Should a network choose to book Giuliani, the Biden campaign called for “an equivalent amount of time” to be provided “to a surrogate for the Biden campaign.” The letter noted Giuliani was not a public official, but Trump’s lawyer and personal advisor.

Speaking separately to Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures,” Giuliani brought up the affidavits and called the situation Clintonesque.

“The pattern is a pattern of pay for play. It includes something very similar to what happened to the Clinton Foundation,” Giuliani said, “which goes to the very core of, what did Obama know and when did he know it?”

Giuliani referred to a December 2015 New York Times article about Hunter Biden, Burisma and a Ukrainian oligarch, and how the younger Biden’s involvement with the Ukrainian company could undermine then-Vice President Biden’s anti-corruption message.

“The question is,” Giuliani asked, “when Biden and Obama saw that article, about how the son was pulling down money from the most crooked oligarch in Russia, did Obama call Biden in and say ‘Joe, how could you be doing this?'”
