President Trump is facing intense backlash for celebrating the recent layoffs that took place at the liberal magazine The Atlantic.

Last week, The Atlantic became the latest of several news outlets that have cut its staff amid the coronavirus pandemic, detailing in a memo to staff that 68 of their colleagues were let go, resulting in a cut of roughly 17 percent of all of the magazine’s employees.

Roughly 40 million Americans have lost their jobs since the beginning of the pandemic. On Tuesday night, Trump touted the layoffs from the magazine whose coverage has been largely critical of the president.

“Great News: The boring but very nasty magazine, The Atlantic, is rapidly failing, going down the tubes, and has just been forced to announce it is laying off at least 20% of its staff in order to limp into the future,” Trump tweeted, “This is a tough time to be in the Fake News Business!”

Trump’s tweet was slammed by critics, many of whom were journalists.

“The president appears to be cheering additions to the unemployment numbers,” Associated Press White House reporter Jonathan Lemire reacted.

“This isn’t news, it was announced a week ago, Trump just doesn’t read. In any case, @TheAtlantic will easily outlast Trump’s presidency,” Tablet Magazine senior writer Yair Rosenberg tweeted.

Former acting DNI Richard Grenell slammed Politico on Tuesday over its report that he was joining the Trump campaign, calling it “fake news.”

Politico ran a story claiming that Grenell was aiding President Trump’s re-election team, specifically in “fundraising and strategy.” The reporting was cited by “two people familiar with the matter.”

However, after the story was published, Grenell flatly denied Politico’s reporting.

“Fake news. Do you even check before writing? What has happened to Washington DC media?!” Grenell reacted to a now-deleted tweet from the Politico reporter who had shared the story.

Following Grenell’s tweet, Politico updated its report with his response and reiterated that he “hadn’t responded to a request for comment” prior to publication. No editor’s note or correction was made.

Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale also slammed Politico’s report.

Here is more proof of #FakeNews. I like @RichardGrenell and we are friends but this story isn’t true. Just more garbage of people making sensational claims,” Parscale tweeted.

Despite the denial from Grenell and the Trump campaign, the report was shared across social media, including by the Biden campaign.

“And just like that, @RichardGrenell has been unmasked as the Trump campaign deputy press secretary that he was all along,” Biden campaign rapid response director Andrew Bates reacted to the Politico report, which was retweeted by Biden press secretary TJ Ducklo.

Neither Politico nor Grenell’s office responded to Fox News’ request for comment.

Grenell, who previously served as the U.S. ambassador to Germany, caused a political firestorm in Washington, D.C., for a series of declassified documents involving the Russia investigation and the surveillance of former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

He declassified the list of top Obama officials who had requested the unmasking of Flynn, including former Vice President Joe Biden, former FBI Director James Comey, former DNI James Clapper, former CIA Director John Brennan, former U.N. Ambassador Samantha Power, and former White House chief of staff Denis McDonough.

On his way out as acting DNI, Grenell also declassified the transcripts of Flynn’s conversations with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak, which prompted the investigation into the former Trump official. They are now in the hands of incoming DNI John Radcliffe, who was just confirmed last week by the Senate.

Jonathan Turley calls out CNN, NBC News for downplaying, editing Biden’s ‘you ain’t black’ remarks

Westlake Legal Group Jonathan-Turley-Getty Jonathan Turley calls out CNN, NBC News for downplaying, editing Biden's 'you ain't black' remarks Joseph Wulfsohn fox-news/tech/companies/twitter fox-news/politics/elections fox-news/politics/2020-presidential-election fox-news/person/joe-biden fox-news/media fox news fnc/media fnc ba54b03e-2f0b-57a9-accb-1c692f0bbf3f article

George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley slammed CNN and NBC News for what he described as the downplaying of Joe Biden‘s controversial “you ain’t black” remarks.

Turley called out CNN anchor John King on Sunday for the way he framed the backlash the presumptive Democratic nominee had been facing over comments he made on Friday during an interview with “The Breakfast Club” radio host Charlamagne tha God. He later walked back his rhetoric, saying he shouldn’t have been so “cavalier.”

“I want to ask you about something else big in politics,” King said during an interview with former Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick. “You ran briefly for the Democratic nomination for president, Joe Biden is the presumptive nominee now. The Trump campaign trying to make a big deal out of this.”

King then played a brief clip of Biden’s exchange with the radio host, including his touting the extension of the Voting Rights Act.

CNN DOWNPLAYS BIDEN’S ‘YOU AIN’T BLACK’ COMMENTS, AVOIDS ON-AIR COVERAGE THROUGHOUT THE DAY

“CNN’s John King just began a question on how ‘some are trying to make a big deal over’ Biden’s ‘you’re not black’ comment. CNN then played the clip ending with ‘I extended the Voting Rights Act 25 years. I have a record that is second to none,'” Turley reacted. “However, the quote was edited to exclude the next line: ‘The NAACP has endorsed me every time I’ve run. Come on, take a look at my record.’ That is a false statement that the NAACP has publicly rebutted.”

The NAACP pushed back against Biden’s claim, saying, “The NAACP is a non-partisan organization and does not endorse candidates for political office at any level.” A Biden official later told Fox News that the former vice president “was referring to his ratings from the organization.”

“On such false statements, CNN is not making a ‘big deal about it.’ It is simply editing it out. Not a big deal. That is not one of the ‘facts first’ stories,” Turley slammed the network.

JONATHAN TURLEY SLAMS MEDIA FOR AVOIDING FLYNN UNMASKING REVELATIONS TO FIT A ‘NARRATIVE’

Turley, a constitutional scholar widely known for his congressional testimony opposing President Trump’s impeachment during the Ukraine scandal, scolded CNN for replaying the same clip later on in another interview and for King saying that the Trump campaign is “trying to make hay about this.”

He also knocked NBC anchor Chuck Todd for similarly omitting Biden’s falsehood regarding endorsements from the NAACP.

GLENN GREENWALD RIPS ‘RESISTANCE JOURNALISM’ IN TRUMP ERA THAT FUELED ‘RUSSIAGATE’

“Todd’s signature ‘fact checks’ does not extend to the very next line in this controversial claim by Biden. It is the media version of the papal indulgence,” Turley tweeted. “There is a false narrative that criticizing Biden means that you don’t criticize Trump. Some of us have criticized both.”

Turley recently blasted the media for widely dismissing the recent revelations of the unmasking requests of former national security advisor Michael Flynn.

“There is very little question that the response by the media to such a story would have been overwhelming if George Bush and his administration had targeted the Obama campaign figures with secret surveillance,” Turley wrote. “That story would have been encompassing if it was learned that there was no direct evidence to justify the investigation and that the underlying allegation of Russian collusion was ultimately found to lack a credible basis. … But the motives of Obama administration officials are apparently not to be questioned.”

“Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon issued an apology Tuesday for wearing blackface during a 2000 episode of “Saturday Night Live.”

Fallon was facing backlash on social media after Twitter users put a spotlight on an old sketch when he impersonated comedian Chris Rock and had darkened his face with makeup, and the hashtag #JimmyFallonIsOverParty began trending on the platform.

“In 2000, while on SNL, I made a terrible decision to do an impersonation of Chris Rock while in blackface. There is no excuse for this,” Fallon later tweeted. “I am very sorry for making this unquestionably offensive decision and thank all of you for holding me accountable.”

Fallon was a cast member on “SNL” from 1998 to 2004.

Fallon isn’t the only comedian to land in hot water over past use of blackface.

Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel wore blackface several times while impersonating former NBA player Karl Malone and daytime talk show host Oprah Winfrey during his tenure on “The Man Show.”

Comedian Sarah Silverman also wore blackface in a 2007 satirical episode of “The Sarah Silverman Program,” where her character accepted the challenge of “being black” for a day while unwittingly offending others for wearing blackface.

High-profile politicians have recently been under fire for resurfaced images of them in blackface, as well, including Democrat Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

WASHINGTON — President Trump is considering establishing a panel to review complaints of anticonservative bias on social media, according to people familiar with the matter, in a move that would likely draw pushback from technology companies and others.

The plans are still under discussion but could include the establishment of a White House-created commission that would examine allegations of online bias and censorship, these people said. The administration could also encourage similar reviews by federal regulatory agencies, such as the Federal Communications Commission and the Federal Election Commission, they said.

Mr. Trump has long expressed that viewpoint, and in a recent Twitter post indicated that a plan to address complaints of bias is in the works.

Facebook Inc., which also owns Instagram, defended its practices when asked for a response to the nascent proposal.

“People on both sides of the aisle disagree with some of the positions we’ve taken, but we remain committed to seeking outside perspectives and communicating clearly about why we make the decisions we do,” the company said.

Actress Alyssa Milano was criticized Saturday on Twitter after sharing a picture of herself and her family wearing coronavirus face masks and encouraging others to do the same — but hers appeared to have holes in it, as it was crocheted.

Milano posted a photo of herself in a car with her husband and two children, who were all wearing facial coverings.

“Show me your masks! Masks keep people safe and healthy. Show me yours! Ready? Go!” she tweeted.

Twitter users were quick to point out how Milano’s crocheted mask had holes in it and likely wasn’t doing anything at all.

“Your mask is exactly what this fence does to keep mosquitoes out,” one user wrote, along with a photo of a fence with many openings in it.

Others also posted photos bashing Milano’s choice of mask.

And social media personality Mark Dice posted a comment indicative of the backlash the actress received and wrote, “You should try this one on.”

After multiple Twitter users critiqued her, Milano replied saying there was a filter inside the mask.

“A–holes, mask has a carbon filter in it. So, yes, it might be crochet but totally safe,” Milano wrote. “Mask has a filter in it for f—‘s sake. A carbon one. My mom makes them. #WearAMask

New York Times correspondent Nikole Hannah-Jones caught a flurry of attention Friday after attempting to distinguish between being “politically black and racially black.”

“There is a difference between being politically black and being racially black. I am not defending anyone but we all know this and should stop pretending that we don’t,” she wrote in a now-deleted tweet.

Hannah-Jones later said she deleted the tweet because it wasn’t “clearly written.”

“So, the point I was trying to make, though apparently not well, is being born black does not necessitate being politically black. And it’s strange that people are appearing to argue there’s no such thing as black politics when there are entire courses on it,” she said.

Her comments came amid controversy surrounding former Vice President Joe Biden’s claim earlier Friday that someone “ain’t black” if they have trouble deciding between him and President Trump in an election.

Hannah-Jones denied that her tweet was specifically about Biden. “My tweet was not an argument about Biden or his politics,” she said.

President Trump fired his most recent shots at The New York Times on Friday, targeting both the newspaper’s executive editor and its publisher.

“I laugh at them all,” the president wrote in one of two Twitter posts critical of the paper. “The @nytimes is a total mess!”

Exactly what prompted the president’s messages wasn’t immediately clear but Trump again referred to the newspaper as “the Failing New York Times,” a description he has used often when talking about the paper’s coverage of his presidency.

CNN DOWNPLAYS BIDEN’S ‘YOU AIN’T BLACK’ COMMENTS, AVOIDS ON-AIR COVERAGE THROUGHOUT THE DAY

Trump began by hurling an insult toward Dean Baquet, the paper’s executive editor.

Baquet “is to be seriously respected,” Trump wrote. “He has long been considered one of the dumbest men in the world of journalism, and he became Executive Editor of the Failing New York Times. Not easy to do.”

The president continued his attack on Baquet.

“He has given up on ‘figuring Trump out,’” the president wrote. “Called it all wrong from the beginning, was forced to apologize (Fake News!) after the seriously wrong call of the 2016 Election, and is now willing to write anything, even if not truthful.

“He laughs at his boss, Publisher A.G. Sulzberger, and I laugh at them all,” Trump concluded. “The @nytimes is a total mess!”

Earlier this month, the Times said one of its reporters “went too far” in criticizing the Trump administration’s response to the coronavirus outbreak.

NEW YORK TIMES EDITS BIDEN SEXUAL ASSAULT COVERAGE, DELETES REFERENCES TO PAST INAPPROPRIATE ‘HUGS, KISSES AN TOUCHING’

During an appearance on CNN, Times writer Donald McNeil described Vice President Mike Pence as a “sycophant” of Trump.

A Times spokesperson later issued a statement to Fox News.

“In an interview with Christiane Amanpour today [May 12], Donald McNeil, Jr. went too far in expressing his personal views,” the statement said. “His editors have discussed the issue with him to reiterate that his job is to report the facts and not to offer his own opinions. We are confident that his reporting on science and medicine for The Times has been scrupulously fair and accurate.”

Back in December, Trump accused the Times of supporting Bloomberg News’ decision to not investigate the campaign of then-presidential candidate Mike Bloomberg, the news outlet’s owner, or the campaigns of his rivals – but still investigate Trump’s campaign.

“The Failing New York Times thinks that is O.K., because their hatred & bias is so great they can’t even see straight. It’s not O.K.!” the president wrote.

Trump responded to the Bloomberg News policy by banning the organization from covering his rallies and campaign events.

In that instance, Baquet of the Times defended Bloomberg News.

“Bloomberg News is one of the largest and most influential news organizations in the world,” Baquet said in a statement at the time. “We condemn any action that keeps quality news media from reporting fairly and accurately on the presidency and the leadership of the country.”

After repeated criticism from Trump, Times publisher A.G. Sulzberger last September accused the president of “trying to delegitimize real news, dismissing factual and fair reporting as politically motivated fabrications.”

CNN downplays Biden’s ‘you ain’t black’ comments, avoids on-air coverage throughout the day

CNN, which often dedicates wall-to-wall coverage for any latest controversy from President Trump, virtually avoided covering Joe Biden‘s “you ain’t black” remarks Friday morning that sparked backlash throughout the day.

The presumptive Democrat nominee sparked a firestorm on Friday during an interview with Charlamagne tha God on the radio show “The Breakfast Club” as he defended his record with the black community.

“I tell you if you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black,” Biden said.

Later in the afternoon, Biden walked back those remarks during a conversation with black business leaders, stopping short of a full apology.

“I’ve never ever taken the African-American community for granted, had their support … I shouldn’t have been such a wise guy. I shouldn’t have been so cavalier,” Biden later said. “I don’t take it for granted at all, and no one, no one should have to vote for any party, based on their race or religion or background.”

Still, Biden’s remarks dominated the conversation on social media with the hashtags #YouAintBlack and #JoeBidenIsARacist trending on Twitter.

Fox News and MSNBC covered the dust-up throughout the day. ABC News, CBS News and NBC News all addressed the controversy on their evening programs.

However, CNN’s lack of coverage throughout the day was called out by critics.

BET CO-FOUNDER BLASTS BIDEN OVER COMMENTS ON BLACK VOTERS: ‘ARROGANT AND OUT-OF-TOUCH ATTITUDE’

“Fascinating to watch how the left-leaning cable networks have covered Biden’s ‘you ain’t black’ comment. MSNBC has discussed it nearly every hour… CNN hasn’t mentioned it once,” former CNN digital producer-turned-media critic Steve Krakauer tweeted.

George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley pointed out the “crickets” coming from CNN. In the afternoon, Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel called out the network for going hours without mentioning the controversy.

EX-SANDERS CAMPAIGN CO-CHAIR NINA TURNER RIPS BIDEN: SAYING YOU ‘OWN’ THE BLACK VOTE IS ‘THE HIGHEST INSULT’

“It’s been over 5 HOURS since Biden told Black people they ‘ain’t black’ if they support @realDonaldTrump. How many times has CNN mentioned his bigoted comment on air? ZERO. Unreal,” McDaniel tweeted.

“When you take into account how both MSNBC covered this repeatedly and Biden decided to issue a mea culpa, you’re left with no conceivable excuse for CNN other than they did so on purpose,” NewsBusters managing editor Curtis Houck told Fox News. “Instead, they decided that trashing the administration for allowing houses of worship to reopen and gleefully touting negative hydroxychloroquine headlines were jobs one and two.”

Houck continued: “CNN has their insane way of going about their newsgathering, presentation and selection, but ignoring a story like this for hours and hours reminds us that their demands that other news organizations act like they do should not only be dismissed but laughed out of the room.”

JEMELE HILL SAYS BIDEN’S ‘YOU AIN’T BLACK’ REMARK ABOUT UNDECIDED VOTERS IS ‘ACCURATE’

CNN didn’t offer a full on-air report of Biden’s remarks until the end of the 7 p.m. ET hour, when anchor Erin Burnett spoke with Charlamagne tha God about the interview, making it the last major news network to report on Biden’s comments. It had articles published on the website earlier in the day.

Instead, the network spent much of the day offering critical coverage of the Trump administration’s handling of the coronavirus outbreak.

Jordan Chariton, co-founder of the progressive media outlet Status Coup, said CNN’s lack of coverage of the controversy is because the network “has been in the tank for Biden for over a year.”

“They dragged their feet on many stories related to him including him lying on being arrested in apartheid South Africa on his way to meeting Nelson Mandela,” Chariton told Fox News. “Outlets like CNN are protectors of the status quo and as such, they will always try and cover up bad stories for candidates like Biden rather than cover and challenge him.”

This isn’t the first time CNN’s on-air coverage has raised eyebrows. On Thursday, CNN bizarrely spent over 100 minutes covering President Trump’s refusal to wear a mask at the Ford plant. Meanwhile, the network spent just 15 minutes combined from Monday through Thursday covering the growing nursing-home controversy plaguing Democrat New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

CNN’S CHRIS CUOMO DOES PROP COMEDY WITH NY GOV. ANDREW CUOMO, FAILS TO ASK ABOUT NURSING-HOME CONTROVERSY

A CNN insider told Fox News that while Trump should have worn the mask, the network is putting an undue emphasis on “what’s not important.”

“I don’t know why they focus on things like this when there are certainly more important things to focus on,” the network source said.

The insider knocked CNN, suggesting that if Trump found the cure for the coronavirus without wearing a mask, him not wearing the mask would become “the story” on the network.

Cuomo has largely gotten a pass from CNN, as the network has largely refrained from airing critical coverage of the Democrat governor. On Wednesday, he appeared for his 10th interview with his brother, “Cuomo Prime Time” anchor Chris Cuomo.

As in previous interviews, the CNN anchor made no mention of the growing death toll in New York nursing homes. Yet, he did manage to squeeze in some prop comedy, mocking the governor’s televised coronavirus test examination with overly-sized cotton swabs while poking fun at the size of his nose.

CNN’S JAKE TAPPER CALLED OUT FOR HYPOCRISY AFTER SCOLDING TRUMP FOR LAUNCHING ‘SMEAR CAMPAIGN AGAINST RIVALS’

“CNN’s coverage of Andrew Cuomo has been consistent with much of the media: focus on the glowing verbiage and ignore the catastrophic mishandling of nursing homes that led to thousands of deaths,” Cornell Law School professor and media critic William A. Jacobson told Fox News.

“This problem is compounded by a serious conflict of interest arising from the relationship between Chris Cuomo, one of CNN’s highest-profile news personalities, and his brother the governor,” Jacobson added. “Chris Cuomo should not be allowed to cover or comment on air about his brother, and CNN should appoint someone to monitor and review coverage of Andrew Cuomo to prevent this conflict of interest from bleeding over to other news coverage.”

Fox News senior meteorologist Janice Dean told “Tucker Carlson Tonight” Thursday that Cuomo’s failed nursing-home policy should be “one of the biggest” stories of the year after both of her parents-in-law lost their lives to the coronavirus.

“I have not seen the coverage of this,” an emotional Dean said. “Twenty percent of our lost loved ones are from nursing homes … because Governor Cuomo and several other governors forced COVID-recovering patients into nursing homes.”

Dean, who rarely comments on political issues, felt compelled to speak out after watching Wednesday night’s CNN interview between the two playful Cuomo brothers.

“The fact that I am seeing, last night, him … making fun, inappropriate jokes and insensitive jokes, cruel jokes … make no mistake,” Dean said, “I am glad that Chris Cuomo has recovered from COVID because he apparently did have it. And I’m glad that their family is well, but my family is not well. And that is not something to joke about.”
