Ralph Reed: Evangelical magazine that slammed Trump should change name to ‘Christianity Yesterday’

Westlake Legal Group ENC3_132213726143930000 Ralph Reed: Evangelical magazine that slammed Trump should change name to 'Christianity Yesterday' fox-news/world/conflicts/ukraine fox-news/us/religion/evangelical fox-news/topic/fox-news-flash fox-news/shows/ingraham-angle fox-news/politics/trump-impeachment-inquiry fox-news/person/donald-trump fox-news/media fox news fnc/media fnc Charles Creitz article aa852a62-67fb-522f-8ba1-3bacaa27e63c

Faith and Freedom Coalition chairman Ralph Reed denounced comments by the editor of a prominent Evangelical Christian magazine who called for President Trump’s removal from office.

Editor-in-chief Mark Galli of “Christianity Today” said Trump’s behavior is “described as immoral, accurately” and has risen “to the level where he is no longer fit to serve office” following his impeachment earlier this week.

Ingraham Angle” host Laura Ingraham told Reed he was making his publication “irrelevant,” adding that the magazine has been gradually taking on a leftward bent since it was founded by the late evangelist Billy Graham in the 1950s. Earlier Friday, Graham’s son Franklin responded to Galli by saying his father proudly supported and voted for Trump in 2016, and by telling CBN that Billy Graham would be “disappointed” to hear what Galli said.

FRANKLIN GRAHAM SLAMS CHRISTIANITY TODAY FOR INVOKING FATHER’S NAME IN CALL FOR TRUMP’S REMOVAL

Reed somewhat echoed those sentiments, saying Galli may want to change the magazine’s name to “Christianity Yesterday.”

“You cannot imagine a publication more out of step with the faith community that it once represented,” he said.

“President Trump received 81% of the votes of evangelicals four years ago — the highest ever recorded. His job approval according to a recent poll by my organization — the Faith and Freedom Coalition — among U.S. Evangelical stands at 83%. That is a historic high.”

Reed remarked he didn’t believe Galli saw the same impeachment hearings as the rest of the nation.

“The only fact witness, Ambassador Gordon Sondland, admitted that no one told him that the aid [to Ukraine] was being withheld in exchange for investigations,” Reed said.

“My reading of scripture is that we are supposed to render honor to whom is due honor,” he continued, adding that Trump has done more for Evangelicals and for Israel than most other presidents.

Reed also reacted to some television pundits who appeared to herald the news by calling Trump’s relationship with Evangelicals “transactional.”

In one instance, NBC News anchor Chuck Todd “President Trump essentially said ‘look what I’ve done for you’,” — and presidential historian Jon Meacham asked whether Evangelical activists find new federal judgeships “worth” supporting the incumbent president.

“For them to say that it is transactional for us to support that moral good is insulting to our faith and our good judgment,” Reed responded.

Mike Huckabee on Chuck Schumer’s demand for impeachment witnesses: ‘I’m embarrassed for him’

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee criticized Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., on Monday for demanding that witnesses be called to testify in the expected Senate impeachment trial of President Trump saying, “I’m embarrassed for him.”

On Sunday, in a letter to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., Schumer called for several current and former Trump administration officials to be subpoenaed to testify. However, during former President Bill Clinton’s impeachment trial in 1999, Schumer roundly dismissed the importance of, and voted against, such witness testimony — suggesting it amounted to “political theater.”

Speaking on “Outnumbered Overtime” Huckabee said, “To quote [climate activist] Greta Thunberg, I would say to Chuck Schumer, ‘How dare you?’ And here is why: He said nothing during the entire time that the House was rejecting any idea that the Republicans would get a chance to hear from key witnesses, whether it was the whistleblower, [ex-FBI investigator] Peter Strzok, [former FBI lawyer] Lisa Page, [former FBI director] James Comey, [onetime CIA Director] John Brennan, go through the whole list, they wouldn’t hear from any of them.”

He added, “And now Chuck Schumer, seriously, is demanding that he gets to call witnesses for this sham? I am embarrassed for him.”

FOX NEWS POLL: TRUMP JOB APPROVAL TICKS UP, VIEWS ON IMPEACHMENT STEADY

“I can’t believe that he would have the audacity to think people will take him seriously, knowing that it is his party that refused to let any witnesses that are truly material witnesses to this process be heard over in the House Judiciary Committee,” Huckabee added.

“Outnumbered Overtime” host Harris Faulkner pointed out the results of a new Fox News poll, which showed weeks of congressional hearings and debate have failed to move the electorate on impeachment. At the same time, the poll showed, approval of President Trump’s job performance has climbed three points.

When asked whether Trump should get involved in the impeachment process if and when it moves to the Senate, Huckabee answered, “Not that much. I think he keeps doing what he’s doing.”

Huckabee then listed some of Trump’s economic accomplishments, which he said includes the stock market highs and The United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, which “is going to produce hundreds of thousands of jobs, if not millions.”

He also noted “the wage increases that everyone has gotten and the fact that women and minorities, Hispanics, blacks, have all had the highest job levels in history.”

“There are some wonderful stories to tell,” Huckabee said. “Donald Trump has gotten rid of seven regulations for every one that’s been passed. That’s a big part of what makes the economy soar right now. He’s got plenty to talk about.”

I think [Trump should] let surrogates, other people talk about the impeachment process because most Americans have already made up their minds and if there’s a dozen or so in the entire country that haven’t, I doubt that anything anyone says is going to swing them one way or the other.”

With moderate Democratic presidential candidates topping recent polls, “The Five” discussed whether  the Democratic Party has come “back to reality” and moved away from the “far-left” candidates in their party.

“I think the bottom line is, is that the Democratic Party voters, they want to win,” co-host Lawrence Jones said Friday. “And they realize that the socialism, no matter how crazy the activists and the Twitter activists are, they want to beat the president.”

BIDEN RETAKES LEAD IN NEW POLL AS WARREN’S NUMBERS PLUMMET, BUTTIGIEG GAINS GROUND

A Quinnipiac University poll released Tuesday shows Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s numbers slashed in half from 28 percent to 14 percent from the month before. After leading the pack in Quinnipiac’s October poll – which was seen as a sign of her surge in the race – Warren’s 14-point drop has her now in third place behind former Vice President Joe Biden and South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg.

Co-host Dana Perino believe’s the party’s more centrist voters are now paying attention to the race.

“Early on in a primary process the most active is wing of your party is going to be the most active. And then as you get now, we’re 65 days till the first votes in Iowa,” Perino said. “Now everybody else starts paying a little bit more attention.”

Jones pointed out frontrunner Biden was problematic for Democrats.

“But it’s still problematic for them because Joe Biden is a weak candidate,” Jones said, calling him “wounded.”

The Fox Nation host predicted Biden would win the nomination but would ultimately fall to President Trump in the 2020 general election.

“I think it’s going to be Joe Biden at the end of the day,” Jones said. “And I think the president is going to filet him.”

The Daily Briefing” host Dana Perino appeared on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” on Tuesday and warned former President Barack Obama that he has one shot to be a “kingmaker.”

Obama “has one opportunity to be a kingmaker, right, at the convention or a peacemaker if there’s a contested convention. Only one opportunity,” Perino told Carlson. “If he blows it now, it’s a little bit too early.”

OBAMA TAKES VEILED SHOT AT WARREN AND SANDERS, WARNS 2020 DEMS AMERICANS DON’T WANT TO ‘TEAR DOWN THE SYSTEM’

Perino was responding to a report from Politico saying Obama recalled to one candidate who came to him for advice how he himself had a bond with the voters that has since faded. He reportedly added: “And you know who really doesn’t have it? Joe Biden.”

Earlier this month, a CNN/Des Moines Register/Mediacom poll showed former Soth Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg leading the field in Iowa with 25 percent support, a 16 percent increase over his numbers in the September version of the poll. Behind Elizabeth Warren (16 percent) came former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., who each garnered 15 percent support.

The former White House press secretary said it’s “pretty clear that Biden doesn’t have what it takes in Iowa,” adding that the Democratic Party is divided into factions.

“They can’t pull the coalition together from older people to younger people to African-Americans and Hispanics, white liberals, academics, climate change people,” Perino said. “They have all these different factions. And that’s because they have created them”

“And there’s no one right now who can pull them all together,” Perino added, saying Obama is the only person that can try. “The only person who thinks that they could do that is a person who won nationally twice, Barack Obama.”

Hong Kong officials close rail stations ahead of potential final operation to flush out ‘hardcore’ protesters

Officials in Hong Kong shut down nearly a dozen railway stations Wednesday as police consider clearing out the final “hardcore” protesters who are occupying the besieged Polytechnic University.

The announcement on a Twitter account belonging to the city’s Mass Transit Railway– which said 11 stations “will be closed to avoid possible railway assets damages due to protest and police actions thereafter” – comes as some 50 protesters remain inside the university’s campus.

“It is an indication – and the students here have been fearing this all day – that the police may be planning to storm this campus… and flush out the radicals,” Fox News reporter Jonathan Hunt, who is on the scene, said on ‘Fox & Friends’ this morning.

Hunt added that past closures of public transit in Hong Kong have “been a prelude to police action because it prevents protesters and sympathizers coming to a certain location.”

House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy of California ripped Democrats on Thursday in reaction to their performance during the impeachment inquiry public hearings, accusing them of trying to “frame” President Trump to hurt him before the 2020 election.

“I always wondered, ‘Why does Adam Schiff lie so much?’,” McCarthy said on “The Ingraham Angle,” referring to the California Democrat who chairs the House Intelligence Committee. “He wants to impeach this president so badly. I mean, they are afraid to face him at the ballot box. So they want to frame him.”

“And that’s what they’ll continue to do, whatever it takes to impeach this president,” McCarthy added.

Earlier Thursday, McCarthy blasted Schiff as a serial liar, while House Speaker Nancy Pelosi accused President Trump of bribery — as the political war on Capitol Hill escalated, coinciding with the launch of impeachment hearings.

McCarthy continued his criticism of Schiff while talking to Ingraham, saying that it’s “all about Adam.”

“I just think Adam Schiff, he’s only focused on impeaching this president, so he’ll lie about anything to get there,” McCarthy said. “He auditions these witnesses in the basement. He’s gonna do more this weekend. He cherry-picks who can come to to the hearing. If you watch it, it’s all about Adam.”

McCarthy said he wasn’t concerned with any potential witnesses stepping forward before giving his timeline prediction for House Democrats.

“They’ll go one more week. Then we’ll go on out for Thanksgiving. Then they’ll have two more weeks and watch,” McCarthy said. “They’ll move the continuing resolution to Dec. 20. … They will vote on impeachment and then they’ll try to do USMCA [the revised trade deal with Mexico and Canada] or something.”

Marc Thiessen: Deval Patrick joining 2020 race is ‘cry for help from the Democratic establishment’

Former George W. Bush speechwriter and Washington Post opinion columnist Marc Thiessen called former Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick‘s entry into the Democratic presidential field a “cry for help from the Democratic establishment” and added that Patrick’s move should help Elizabeth Warren and hurt Joe Biden.

“It certainly does empower Elizabeth Warren,” Thiessen said on “Special Report with Bret Baier” Thursday. “He’s making a run for the Obama voters, Deval Patrick is. Joe Biden right now has 41 percent of African-American support. Cory Booker and Kamala Harris, who might have made a claim to that, have not been able to chip away at that. Deval Patrick may be able to do that.”

DEVAL PATRICK TO LAUNCH DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL BID

Patrick declared his candidacy for the White House earlier Thursday before traveling to neighboring New Hampshire to file for that state’s first-in-the-nation presidential primary, beating the deadline for candidates to place their names on the primary ballot by a day.

“What this is, this is a cry for help. This is a cry for help from the Democratic establishment that is looking at this race and seeing Joe Biden is old and fragile and not ready to go up mano a mano with Donald Trump,” Thiessen said, noting that Biden is likely to receive “a pummeling” from the president and his “machine.”

Thiessen said that some in the Democratic establishment are worried that Trump’s re-election next year is possible and are concerned about Warren’s “far-left” platform.

“They see Elizabeth Warren, who’s embracing this far-left agenda that gives no safe harbor to people who are suffering from Trump exhaustion. And so the Democrats see this race slipping away from them,” Thiessen said. “They’re desperate for somebody else to come in, the leadership of the Democratic Party, and they think Deval Patrick can grab that Obama lane, bring the African-American vote in the way Hillary couldn’t.”

Fox News contributor Ken Starr said on Friday that acting Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney was “pretty close” to admitting President Trump’s phone call with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenksy did involve a “quid pro quo.”

Starr went on to say, “But now Mick Mulvaney may find himself under oath and instead of just the give-and-take with the press, he’s going to now have to say precisely what happened,” the former independent counsel told “America’s Newsroom.”

Mulvaney seemed to contradict Trump’s claim that there had been no “quid pro quo” during his July 25 phone call with Zelensky, by telling reporters at the White House Thursday that the release of military aid to Ukraine was tied to the administration’s demands that Kiev investigate purported corruption by the Democrats during the 2016 presidential election campaign.

FLEISCHER: MICK MULVANEY MADE A ‘TERRIBLE MISTAKE’ BY CONTRADICTING THE PRESIDENT

When questioned by reporters about the administration’s decision to withhold $400 million in aid from Ukraine, Mulvaney said that Trump told him at the time: “This is a corrupt place. Everyone knows this is a corrupt place … Plus, I’m not sure that the other European countries are helping them out either.”

Mulvaney added: “Did [Trump] also mention to me, in the past, the corruption related to the DNC server? Absolutely. No question about that. But that’s it. And that’s why we held up the money … The look back to what happened in 2016 certainly was part of the thing that he was worried about in corruption with that nation. And that is absolutely appropriate.”

MULVANEY COMMENTS SEIZED ON BY CRITICS SAYING IT’S PROOF OF UKRAINE QUID PRO QUO

Mulvaney later walked back the statements, stating clearly that there was no “quid pro quo.”

Starr said that there needed to be greater discipline in the messaging in regard to the impeachment inquiry of Trump.

The Trump impeachment inquiry heralded by U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., is a “partisan adventure” rather than a legitimate congressional process, House Intelligence Committee ranking member Devin Nunes, R-Calif., asserted Thursday night.

The inquiry is not being carried out in the same way that previous impeachment probes were, Nunes said on Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight.”

“It is a partisan adventure and it’s not a real impeachment the way that impeachment process has worked the other times it’s been used,” Nunes said.

Former Presidents Bill Clinton and Andrew Johnson, both Democrats, were subject to impeachment votes.

Nunes also told host Tucker Carlson that he participated in Thursday’s multi-committee Capitol Hill interview of former U.S. envoy to Ukraine Kurt Volker.

“I just came from the Capitol and we had, I mean, nine hours of Ambassador Volker, which, if you listen to the mainstream media and the Democrats, this was gonna be the guy that was gonna give up all the goods on Rudy Giuliani, because this was the special envoy to Ukraine on behalf of the Trump administration,” Nunes said.

“Of course they went on and on and on. Why did they keep going on and on? Because they weren’t getting what they wanted.”

Instead, Nunes suggested Volker should be praised for his years of responsible public service — rather than be subjected to marathon testimony.

Regarding Schiff, Nunes said the California Democrat — who chairs the House Intelligence Committee — had two private opportunities to disclose the fact he or his staff had had contact with the unidentified “whistleblower” at the center of the impeachment inquiry.

“It looks like he knew something beforehand,” Nunes said, regarding Schiff and the whistleblower’s complaint.

“He clearly gave no indication that he had ever met with the whistleblower or anybody on his team had ever met with the whistleblower.”

Trump presidential library should be in Staten Island since borough backed him in 2016, lawmaker says

A New York City lawmaker is hoping for a “fair shot” from President Trump after asking him to consider housing his presidential library on Staten Island.

Although Trump appears unpopular in his own home borough of Queens, where 75 percent of voters supported Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election, Staten Island went for Trump by 17 percentage points (57 percent to 40 percent for Clinton)

Joseph Borelli, one of three Republicans on New York’s City Council, petitioned Trump last month to consider choosing one of the three universities or colleges on Staten Island to house his presidency’s papers, records, collections and other historical materials.

“Typically a presidential library is partnered with an academic institution, So we have three colleges and universities on Staten Island,” Borelli said Wednesday on “Fox & Friends First.

Those institutions are the College of Staten Island — where Borelli is an adjunct professor — St. John’s University and Wagner College.

“Basically you’d build a big center and it would be a research facility for professional historians in the future and it would be something that would bring really a world-class academic institution to a part of the city that has a shortage of public colleges and universities,” he said.

“Whether liberals like it or not, Trump’s archives are going to be housed in a library somewhere, probably in his home state. So this is a positive thing. It’s a positive thing for the south side of Chicago, they’re getting the Barack Obama library, and I would hope that more people here in New York City would be receptive to this.”

Borelli said that although he anticipates zoning issues and questions surrounding where on the island is a good spot for the library to crop up, he is optimistic that it will ultimately be a positive addition to the Trump-supporting borough.

“It [the Obama library] will be transformative for the south side of Chicago– unquestionably a lot of jobs, a lot of positive vibes,” he said. “We want the same thing in New York City.”
