Hannity blasts Biden for gaffes: ‘Biggest opponent is himself’

Sean Hannity blasted Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden as the former vice president continues to make news over his campaign trail gaffes and flubs.

“Yeah, politicians have gaffes. I don’t remember anybody like this having this many gaffes, this often,” the Fox News host said Thursday night on “Hannity.”

JOE BIDEN DESCRIBES HIS FIRST DAY AS PRESIDENT, AND CLIMATE ACTION’S PART OF IT

Biden is trying to move further to the left to placate progressive voters, Hannity claimed. The host also criticized Biden for backing the Green New Deal, the progressive plan to address climate change.

“Biden knows he’s not, well, radical enough to survive the new extreme Democratic Party,” Hannity said. “Last night he did sign on to the radical Green New Deal. Wasn’t that nice.”

During CNN’s seven-hour climate change town hall Wednesday night, Biden was asked if U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s legislation “goes too far.”

“No,” Biden responded, suggesting it could go further.

The Fox News host ripped Biden for his response.

“So he has to now spin it in a million different directions trying to keep his story straight. Trying to keep it together on the campaign trail,” Hannity said.

Ultimately, Hannity said, Biden’s “biggest opponent is himself.”

Charleston, SC, mayor: Dorian flooding impact ‘significant,’ but ‘not as a significant as we thought they would be’

The mayor of Charleston, S.C., John Tecklenburg, said Thursday that the impact of Hurricane Dorian was “significant,” but that “the impacts from flooding were not as a significant as we thought they would be.”

Speaking with Fox News’ Neil Cavuto on “Your World,” Mayor Tecklenburg said: “We had a little more wind than expected, but we had less water than we expected and that was a good thing. Flooding was our No. 1 concern.”

Charleston sits on a peninsula that is prone to flooding even from ordinary storms.

On Thursday, Hurricane Dorian started to make its way toward the Carolinas, bringing tropical storm conditions along the South Carolina coast and flooding in Charleston while the threat of tornadoes loomed in North Carolina.

Flooding was reported in Charleston, S.C. early Thursday as Hurricane Dorian neared the area. (Fox News)

Dorian decreased in force to a Category 2 storm as it swirled in the Atlantic Ocean. It had previously hit the Bahamas as a Category 5 hurricane before making a northward turn up the East Coast.

South Carolina’s governor, Henry McMaster, issued a mandatory evacuation for coastal counties, which went into effect at noon on Monday.

On Thursday afternoon, the governor’s office announced that the evacuation order had been lifted for three counties but remained in effect for five counties, including in Charleston.

Even though Tecklenburg acknowledged Thursday that the impact wasn’t as bad as had been anticipated, he told Cavuto: “It’s better to be safe than sorry.”

“Governor McMaster was absolutely right in what he did,” Tecklenburg said, responding to some backlash from people who did not agree with the governor’s evacuation order.

Tecklenburg went on to say: “He ordered everyone to leave. Probably about half the folks left, the others hunkered down and were safe indoors and were pretty respectful to stay off the streets as we asked them, so I haven’t had a single report of anyone being injured in my city, which I feel great about.”

Although flooding and wind in Charleston weren’t nearly as bad as feared, Dorian toppled about 150 trees, swamped roads and brought down power lines, officials said.

Near Charleston, part of the metal roof of a James Island church blew off.

Dorian apparently spun off at least one tornado in North Myrtle Beach, damaging several homes. North Myrtle Beach is about two hours from Charleston.

Another twister touched down in the beach town of Emerald Isle, N.C., mangling and overturning several trailer homes. No injuries have been reported so far.

An attendee at President Trump’s New Hampshire campaign rally said the commander-in-chief mistook him for a protester but he harbors no hard feelings.

Frank Dawson told Griff Jenkins in an interview aired Friday on “Fox & Friends” the president called him out in the midst of a disturbance at the rally in Manchester — but didn’t realize he was the one confronting some actual protesters.

“He didn’t see me rip the signs away from those three people that were sitting near us,” he said.

“They were trying to cause a ruckus and they jumped up and started yelling something.”

Dawson, whom Jenkins said is a law enforcement and military veteran, will appear on “Fox & Friends” Saturday to talk about a very special phone call he received after the apparent case of mistaken identity.

Speaking to Jenkins after the rally, Dawson further described what transpired that evening.

“I don’t even care what they were yelling, but it wasn’t going to happen beside me because I’m trying to listen to my president,” he said.

“I think he thought I was part of it, but I wasn’t — I was the good part of it.”

As Dawson confronted the protesters, the president shouted in his direction.

“That guy’s got a serious weight problem. Go home. Start exercising.”

The avid Trump supporter later laughed off the criticism.

“Everything’s good. I love the guy. He’s the best thing that ever happened to this country.”

Later Thursday, Trump turned to domestic and foreign policy, with a focus on the economy. Responding to recent mass shootings in Texas and Ohio, the president emphasized the importance of mental health treatment and vowed, to sustained applause, “We will always uphold the Second Amendment.”

Trump also promised to work more on the opioid epidemic, which, according to The Washington Post, has claimed more lives in 2017 alone than mass shootings have in the past five decades.

Dr. Marc Siegel: Epstein death in NY prison under extremely tight security ‘unusual’

Fox News medical contributor Dr. Marc Siegel said the apparent suicide of Jeffrey Epstein shouldn’t have happened in a New York City jail previously renowned for its ability to hold notorious prisoners under extremely tight security.

“It is unusual,” he told guest host Mark Steyn on “Tucker Carlson Tonight.” “Where were the cameras? Where was the observation?”

Safeguards — including cell checks every 30 minutes — were not followed the night before Epstein’s death, The New York Times reported Sunday, citing a law enforcement official familiar with the investigation.

Epstein, 66, had pleaded not guilty to federal sex trafficking and conspiracy charges. His lawyers maintained the charges against him violated a non-prosecution agreement he signed over a decade ago.

JEFFREY EPSTEIN DEAD: TIMELINE OF SEXUAL ABUSE ALLEGATIONS AND RELATED LEGAL CASES

The manner in which Epstein killed himself has not been announced publicly by government officials. An autopsy was performed Sunday, but New York City Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Barbara Sampson said investigators were awaiting further information.

Siegel told Steyn that the number one cause of death in prison is suicide, one out of three prison deaths, and that suicide is highest among sex offenders.

Epstein had been placed on suicide watch after he was found in his cell a little over two weeks ago with bruises on his neck. But he had been taken off that watch at the end of July and returned to the jail’s special housing unit.

Siegel added no “self-respecting” psychiatrist would never take someone him suicide watch, and he found the death odd considering in 40 years the prison facility had only one suicide.

Epstein’s death brings fresh attention to the staffing at Manhattan’s Metropolitan Correctional Center, where shortages worsened by a partial government shutdown prompted inmates to stage a hunger strike in January after they were denied family and lawyer visits.

Eight months later, the lockup remains so short-staffed that the U.S. Bureau of Prisons is offering correctional officers a $10,000 bonus to transfer there from other federal lockups. That’s on top of a so-called “recruitment incentive” that amounts to 10 percent of new guards’ first-year salaries.

Staffing shortfalls are resulting in extreme overtime shifts, in which guards may work up to 16 hours a day.

“It’s a disgusting place,” Siegel said about MCC, calling the prison squalor and full of vermin.

The 12-story jail had been designed to house 449 inmates when it opened in 1975 near the Brooklyn Bridge. Its population ballooned within two years to 539 inmates, prompting a judge to declare it “unacceptably cramped and oppressive for most healthy inmates.”

Today it holds more than 760 inmates and counts among its former star inhabitants the Mexican drug lord and escape artist Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, Mafia boss John Gotti, several close associates of Osama bin Laden and Wall Street swindler Bernard Madoff.

Al Sharpton urges 2020 Dems to skip ‘political cannibalism,’ focus on taking down Trump

The Rev. Al Sharpton warned Democratic presidential candidates Friday against engaging in “political cannibalism” during the nomination process and urged them to focus on the bigger picture of defeating President Trump in the general election.

Sharpton, who founded the civil rights advocacy group National Action Network, also addressed the political infighting between Democratic frontrunner Joe Biden and black Sens. Kamala Harris and Cory Booker, both of whom challenged the former vice president’s record on civil rights.

JOE BIDEN WARNS HE WON’T BE ‘AS POLITE THIS TIME’ WHEN HE FACES KAMALA HARRIS IN NEXT DEBATE

“Let’s stop here now, because all of us in public life have done things you could capitalize on,” Sharpton said Friday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” Sharpton explained that by fighting among themselves, the 2020 Democratic hopefuls “do Trump’s job for him.”

“None of us are diametrically opposed to the voting rights and gender rights and LGBTQ rights and civil rights of people like Donald Trump is,” Sharpton said of the Democratic 2020 hopefuls. “Save your fire for the main event. Don’t shoot all your bullets now and come into the main event with an empty gun.”

Speaking to African-American voters at the NAACP convention in Los Angeles on Wednesday, Biden said he’s not going to be “as polite” with Harris during next week’s round of Democratic presidential debates in Detroit.

During their debate in Miami in June, Harris confronted Biden on his opposition decades ago to federally mandated school busing. That same night, the California Democrat also criticized comments Biden had made about his ability to find common ground during the 1970s with segregationist senators with whom he disagreed.

During Wednesday’s convention, Booker, a Democrat from New Jersey, also challenged Biden’s support of a 1994 Clinton-era crime bill that critics claim was responsible for the mass incarceration of black men in the U.S. Biden countered by criticizing the so-called “stop-and-frisk” tactic used against African-American men in Newark, N.J., while Booker was mayor there from 2006 to 2013.

Sharpton wrapped up his appearance on the MSNBC program by recommending the Democratic candidates define their differences and not waste too much energy and fire “when it ought to be all directed at who’s trying to turn back the clock in this country,” a jab directed aimed at President Trump.

Collins, however, said he thought NASA should be focusing its efforts on the Red Planet. “The current plan has been well thought out, but I disagree with it, we should shoot directly for Mars,” he said. “Twenty-some years ago, I even wrote a book, a whole boring book, on a mission to Mars and I have always been a believer in Mars.”

He also advocated naming a future Mars mission after President John F. Kennedy, who famously vowed in 1961 that America would land a man on the Moon before the end of that decade.

“He was such a wonderful guide for us in the Apollo venture,” Collins said. “400,000 Americans, would you believe, at the time, working on that program – Kennedy’s voice expedited that whole thing.”

Georgia Republican Rep. Doug Collins said Wednesday on “Fox & Friends” that Nancy Pelosi’s speech on the House floor was “clearly over the line,” defending his decision to demand her words be stricken from the public record.

The tensions erupted Tuesday after the House Speaker condemned the “president’s racist tweets,” introducing a resolution titled, “Condemning President Trump’s racist comments directed at Members of Congress.”

Collins said the very title of the resolution violates the rules of the House, since it ascribes a “motive” to the president by calling him “racist.”

“They passed a resolution that they cannot read on the floor of the House. That shows you bad this is. … This is nothing but to get the president, to make a mockery of their own leadership abilities because they don’t like this president,” he said.

After Collins’ objection, the Democrat-controlled House voted along party lines not to strike Pelosi’s words from the record and voted separately to restore her speaking privileges. A resolution was then passed to condemn Trump’s “go back” remarks directed toward four freshmen Democratic women.

Collins also expressed his disagreement with the so-called “squad,” comprised of Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., and Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich.

He said their recent rhetoric, especially about border detention facilities, shows the House “is broken right now and why the president is leading.”

Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, voiced his frustration with “the squad” Tuesday and reacted to the House of Representative’s vote to condemn President Trump’s controversial remarks.

“I mean they’re so focused on going after this president, so focused on actually getting to impeachment I believe that they’re not going to stop at anything even if it means breaking the rules on the House floor where there is a certain level of decorum that you must maintain,” Jordan said on “The Story with Martha MacCallum.”

The House passed a resolution Tuesday evening condemning Trump’s “racist” remarks this weekend.  The moment was overshadowed by a dramatic floor fight earlier in the day that ended with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ruled out of order for a breach of decorum.

Jordan defended the president’s comments and his displeasure with the Democrat’s position on the border with Mexico.

“I think the president was expressing the frustration that so many Americans feel about what’s going on at the border. Understand this Martha, it was just a couple months ago when the president said this is a crisis and all the Democrats say ‘no, it’s not. It’s manufactured, it’s contrived.’ And they wouldn’t provide the money we needed to actually deal with the situation on the border,” Jordan said.

Jordan also blasted the four congresswomen, noting their past controversial comments saying it was difficult to work with them.

“These are the same people who said abolish ICE, abolish the Department of Homeland Security. I mean these are the radical positions they take,” Jordan said.

“These are the same individuals who said that the detention facilities to deal with this influx of amazing numbers we’ve seen on the border. They call these detention facilities ‘concentration camp’s and we’re supposed to figure out a way to work with them. It’s just difficult.”

Moderate Dem slams ‘squad’ for threatening to primary him: ‘They’re not Democrats … they’re socialists’

Rep. Henry Cuellar D-Texas, responded to the threat of a primary from the four female progressive House members known as “the squad” on Tuesday and accused them of being socialists in disguise.

“I mean it’s this group called the Justice Democrats. I think they’re not Democrats quite honestly,” he said on “Your World with Neil Cavuto.”

“They’re socialists and they want to impose their vision to Texas and we certainly know that in Texas our vision is very different from … what I call these Justice Democrats, which are really socialists. They’re not really Democrats.”

LISA BOOTHE: TRUMP’S SPAT WITH ‘THE SQUAD’ MAY BENEFIT HIM, DOES LITTLE TO MOVE NEEDLE ON IMPEACHMENT

Cuellar was referring to the four House members who took on President Trump in a Monday press conference, after engaging in a Twitter spat with the commander-in-chief. They are Reps. Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., Rashida Tlaib D-Mich., Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., and Ilhan Omar, D-Minn.

Cuellar said he isn’t the only Democrat to fall into the squad’s crosshairs and claimed some members are being targeted for their support of Israel. He also predicted most Americans wouldn’t side with the squad because their values don’t line up with most Americans.

“I do know that they are going after different folks, for example, they’re going after Juan Vargas… and the reason they’re going after him is because he has a very strong pro-Israel voting record,” he said.

“And that’s just you know, just amazing that they’re targeting him. They’re going after Jim Costa also. They’re going after Lacy Clay. They’re going after other folks. But again, their vision is not the vision of most Americans.”

Cuellar also praised the $4.6 billion bipartisan immigration package passed by Congress last month, which Ocasio-Cortez and Omar voted against. He said part of the funding will go to non-profits and churches, trying to help ease the crisis at the southern border.

“I was able to get that $30 million reimbursement for the nonprofits and the churches that are doing so much at the border. They’re putting money out of their pocket. So we were working with them. We got a lot of the language there,” he said.

“So when the bill came out I looked at it and that bill had a lot of things that we had looked at. When they say that there’s no protocols or no rules — that we gave the president a blank check — that is not correct because there are protocols that Homeland has.

“There are protocols that ICE has … there’s language that I have added there to make sure that we have transparency and protection for the migrant kids. And in … the Senate bill that came over, there’s even additional language there for protection. So there was no blank checks, a blank check written to anybody. And that’s why I supported that particular bill”
