Fox News’ Ed Henry out of hospital, ‘beyond grateful’ for support after giving sister part of his liver

Fox News’ chief national correspondent Ed Henry announced Sunday he’d left the hospital, a major step forward five days after he gave 30 percent of his liver to his sister, Colleen, in a transplant operation.

Henry, who became emotional on-air days before the surgery, shared her positive prognosis on Twitter and said she’s recovering at a good pace.

He’d told “Fox & Friends” his only goal was to “give her a little life.”

ED HENRY DISCUSSES EMOTIONAL DECISION TO DONATE PART OF HIS LIVER TO HIS SISTER

Henry posed for a photo at the hospital alongside Colleen and her son Frank, whose shirt read, “nothing less than the best.”

He also tweeted a moving photo of a card from his colleague and fellow Fox News personality Martha MacCallum, which came with flowers and a promise of “prayers.”

“I am so gratified that both Colleen and I continue to make progress every day. And I am beyond elated to have gotten out of the hospital already with all of my vitals in the right place, and a functioning liver of my own. This has been a remarkable seven days, starting when I nervously opened up about all of this on ‘Fox and Friends,'” Henry told Fox News. “To think one week ago we were unsure about Colleen’s future, and anxious about two surgeries, yet tonight she has the greatest gift of all — life.

“We have had talented surgeons, doctors, nurses, and support staff. Plus loving parents and family and friends by our sides at every key moment. But opening up about it to a broader audience brought a dimension we could not have anticipated — the love, prayers, and well wishes of thousands upon thousands of wonderful people we have never met. We are blessed and beyond grateful.”

Henry also told Fox News the surgery was an immediate success and that he and his sister will be resting and recovering for the next several weeks.

“We have always known the road to full recovery will be longer for Colleen. But her surgeon says as soon as he put part of my liver in her it started working immediately — a miracle,” he continued. “She still has family and friends by her side every step of the way. And now she has a prayer army that nobody can beat. Our thanks and love always for your continued support.”

ED HENRY CALLS IN TO GIVE UPDATE ON LIVER TRANSPLANT RECOVERY: ‘WE’VE SUCCEEDED IN VICTORY

“For now the only marching order I have gotten from our CEO Suzanne Scott is to rest up for awhile. I will listen even though I will be champing at the bit to get back to work. All I know is I will be ready and eager to get back as the doctors and Suzanne give me the green light because I miss our audience and my Fox colleagues, who have brought my family to tears with their outpouring,” he concluded.

Both Henry and Colleen are expected to regain 100 percent of their livers in about 6-8 weeks, according to transplant specialist Dr. Joe Galati.

“Yes indeed over 6 to 8 weeks, the liver will regenerate for Ed, regenerating back the 30 or 40 percent that he donated. Similarly, his sister who received a portion will get back to 100 percent in a similar time frame,” Galati told Fox News in an email.

“Keep in mind that the liver is the only such organ that can regenerate like this, which is an amazing feature more people need to know about,” he added.

A GoFundMe page has been taking donations for Colleen Henry’s recovery.

Kellyanne Conway points to ‘Deporter in Chief’ Obama in defense of ICE raids

While the Trump administration is taking heat from Democrats as U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) begins deportation operations across the country, White House Counselor Kellyanne Conway claims that the president is simply following in the footsteps of his Democratic predecessor.

Recalling how raids were carried out under President Obama, Conway discussed the reputation the 44th president garnered due to his actions against undocumented immigrants.

ICE DEPORTATION RAIDS UNDERWAY IN NEW YORK CITY, ‘NUMBER OF JURISDICTIONS,’ OFFICIAL SAYS

“He was referred to as ‘Deporter in Chief,’ very harshly in 2012,” Conway noted, “and he said ‘I’m not a king, I have to enforce the law.’”

Conway said that the ongoing deportation operations are simply part of ICE’s job.

“ICE does this every single day, it’s called enforcement actions,” she added, point out that the people being targeted are those who already have final removal orders against them after they exhausted their appeals.

Conway also discussed the ongoing crisis at the southern border, saying she is opposed to separating children from their parents.

“I think you can enforce the law without separating families,” she said.

Conway blamed the practice on those who are no longer part of the administration. Family separation drew headlines when it started taking place on a large scale under a zero-tolerance policy on illegal border crossing that started under former Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

Ed Henry calls in to give update on liver transplant recovery: ‘We’ve succeeded in victory’

Fox News Chief National Correspondent Ed Henry called into “Fox & Friends” on Saturday to give viewers an update on his and his sister’s recovery from a liver transplant the two underwent.

Henry said that while he still had a long road ahead for recovery, his vitals were strong and he was feeling healthy.

“Still got some aches and pains but it’s really not a big deal because we’ve succeeded in victory,” he said.

In July, Henry discussed his heartfelt decision to donate part of his liver to his sister who has struggled with liver problems connected to her and Ed’s family history.

“I am determined to do whatever I can to give my sister the greatest gift of all, which quite simply is life,” he said, noting that his sister Colleen’s health had become a lot worse.

ED HENRY AND HIS SISTER, COLLEEN, BOTH RECOVERING AND MAKING ‘GOOD PROGRESS’ AFTER LIVER DONATION SURGERIES

Henry said that once the surgeon put part of his liver in his sister on Tuesday, it “immediately started working.”

He initially wasn’t sure whether he should get out of bed, saying that he felt dizzy after stood up.

He started to choke up recalling how medical personnel requested that he get out of his bed to visit his sister. “I got up and went for a walk and we toasted — since we can’t have alcohol, we had apple juice.” Colleen, he said, had already gotten some her color back.

Henry added that he hoped to leave the hospital within days, although his sister had a much longer road ahead of her.

“The prayers that we’re feeling … I can’t thank everyone personally, I want to thank everybody now. You’ve been amazing. I totally underestimated the outpouring,” he said, noting the massive amount of support he received from viewers.

Pence slams CNN for ‘dishonest’ coverage of detention center visit; says America ‘deserves the full story’

Westlake Legal Group ContentBroker_contentid-932c1a9b29294b81b3ab20085ed6d1ce Pence slams CNN for 'dishonest' coverage of detention center visit; says America 'deserves the full story' Joseph Wulfsohn fox-news/us/us-regions/southwest/texas fox-news/us/immigration fox-news/topic/fox-news-flash fox-news/tech/companies/twitter fox-news/person/mike-pence fox-news/entertainment/media fox news fnc/politics fnc article 083904f0-5c35-5b01-831f-13ec73736682

Vice President Mike Pence blasted CNN late Friday night for what he described as the network’s “dishonest” coverage of his trip to a migrant detention center near the U.S.-Mexico border.

Pence, along with reporters and a group of GOP lawmakers, flew to McAllen, Texas, where he participated in a roundtable discussion with Border Patrol agents and toured a detention center. The vice president spoke with several migrant children and asked about their treatment at the facility with the help of a translator.

CNN’s primetime coverage, however, featured only visuals of a large group of adult male migrants behind a fence attempting to engage with reporters. During CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360” program, the network played Pence’s interview with CNN senior White House correspondent Pamela Brown on a split screen, showing only footage of the adult migrants and none of the footage of Pence visiting with children.

CNN MIRED IN A CREDIBILITY CRISIS AS RATINGS CONTINUE TO COLLAPSE, EXPERTS SAY

Later, CNN’s Chris Cuomo criticized Pence’s interview remarks and accused him of providing “spin” on the facility conditions. “Cuomo Prime Time” also made no reference to Pence’s visit with the children.

The vice president apparently took notice, as evidenced by Twitter posts.

“CNN is so dishonest. Today we took reporters to a detention facility on the border for families and children and all told us they were being treated well,” Pence began. “The crisis at our southern border is not a ‘manufactured crisis,’ it is real and is overwhelming our system. To show this, we also visited an overcrowded facility for adult men, many of whom have been arrested multiple times. These men were in a temporary holding area because Democrats in Congress have refused to fund additional bed space.”

He continued: “Rather than broadcast the full story, showing the compassionate care the American people are providing to vulnerable families, tonight CNN only played video of men in the temporary facility and didn’t play any footage of the family facility at all… ignoring the excellent care being provided to families and children. Our great @CBP agents deserve better and the American people deserve the whole story from CNN!”

“Our great @CBP agents deserve better and the American people deserve the whole story from CNN!”

— Vice President Mike Pence

CNN did not immediately respond to Pence’s comments.

Several CNN anchors — including Cooper, Cuomo, Don Lemon and Wolf Blitzer — previously rejected President Trump’s warning earlier this year that there was a crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border.

“You can build a physical barrier. But why say it’s a cure-all to keep back this demonized group of people, like this marauding horde that doesn’t exist. [Trump] created all of this. It’s all bogus,” Cuomo said Jan. 11.

“Let’s talk about his imaginary Latin-American migrant conspiracy,” Lemon said April 24. “This is part of a long history of him making things up about the caravan and the border crisis.”

“President Trump will speak tonight from the Oval Office, trying to sell his border wall to a doubtful nation, as his administration uses falsehoods and misstatements to build the case for what it calls a crisis on the border,” Blitzer said Jan. 8.

“Now, it’s not our job to advocate for or against a given policy,” Cooper said Jan. 8. “It’s our job to call out the dishonest pursuit of it. So, as we wait for the president to speak about what he calls the crisis on the border, we’re starting with the crisis of credibility he’s created for himself.”

The upcoming Capitol Hill testimony by former Special Counsel Robert Mueller will mark a “golden opportunity” for Republicans to hold him accountable, “Hannity” host Sean Hannity said Friday in his opening monologue.

“Democrats? They’re hoping to turn this testimony into a spectacle — for Nadler. For the cowardly Schiff,” Hannity said, referring to Reps. Jerrold Nadler of New York and Adam Schiff of California, the Democrats who chair the House judiciary and intelligence committees, respectively. Mueller will appear before both panels later this month.

“One more excuse to try to smear Trump. But for Republicans, this hearing is a golden opportunity,” Hannity added. “To ask the questions that need to be asked of Robert Mueller to hold him accountable.”

TREY GOWDY: MUELLER DOES NOT WANT TO ‘PARTICIPATE’ IN KEEPING THE RUSSIA STORY ALIVE

Hannity demanded answers from Mueller, saying America deserved to know why he made some of the choices he did during the nearly two-year-long Russia investigation.

“We, you, we the American people we deserve answers to all the pressing questions that our government has totally ignored and the media mob is ignored,” Hannity said. “Mueller must answer why did he hire a team full of Democratic donors? Not one Republican available. Why would he ever hire in this case Hillary Clinton’s former attorney? Why did he hire this guy, Andrew Weissman?”

Hannity questioned whether Mueller was “proud” of his work and what it had done to the country.

“At the end of the day, is Robert Mueller really proud of his 22-month witch hunt that really did nothing more than give fuel to what are rampant conspiracy theories, lies, propaganda, misinformation?” Hannity asked.

Hannity added that “the boomerang of justice” was coming back against those who opposed President Trump.

“No president in this country should ever have to face this kind of flawed partisan phony conspiracy oriented investigation ever again,” he said. “It shouldn’t happen. And thankfully tonight the boomerang of justice is in full swing.”

Ken Starr: Mueller testimony presents ‘golden opportunity’ to Republicans

House Republicans on the Judiciary and Intelligence committees will have a unique opportunity to question former Special Counsel Robert Mueller after Democrats pressed to have him come and testify, according to former independent counsel Ken Starr.

GOP lawmakers should delve into several topics about which their questions have gone largely unanswered, Starr claimed Friday on “Hannity.”

“This is going to be a great opportunity,” said Starr, the independent counsel for the Clinton-era Whitewater probe. “The Republicans are going to be on the spot. They are being given… a golden opportunity to get some questions answered that we all have.

DEAL STRUCK FOR MUELLER TO APPEAR, GIVE EXTENDED TESTIMONY BEFORE CONGRESS JULY 24

“I think Republicans will do well to drill into the report and to say such things as ‘the transition period proved that there were no connections between Vladimir Putin and the Kremlin, and the Trump organization and the Trump campaign,’.”

“‘Why couldn’t you say that much more directly?’,” Starr claimed Mueller should be asked.

He said Republicans should press Mueller as to why the report reads to some people as if the president was not given any “benefit of the doubt.”

“You really wrote this for Congress and you had no authority to do that,” Starr said of Mueller. “You were to write a confidential report to the attorney general of the United States explaining your prosecution decisions and your declination decisions.

“Mr. Mueller, some would call that an abuse of power.”

On Friday, Planning for former Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s highly anticipated testimony was thrown into disarray as multiple sources said the hearing was delayed amid a “breakdown in negotiations” — yet others indicated it could still go forward next week as planned.

Late Friday, Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., and Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., announced that Mueller’s appearance before both committees had been pushed back one week, to July 24. Mueller is scheduled to testify before the Judiciary Committee for three hours beginning at 8:30 a.m. before appearing before the Intelligence Committee that afternoon.

Nadler and Schiff promised that “[a]ll members—Democrats and Republicans—of both committees will have a meaningful opportunity to question the Special Counsel in public, and the American people will finally have an opportunity to hear directly from Mr. Mueller about what his investigation uncovered.”

There’s little chance that former Special Counsel Robert Mueller will reveal any significant new information about his Russia investigation when he testifies on Capitol Hill later this month, former U.S. Rep. Trey Gowdy said Friday.

In fact, Gowdy said on Fox News’ “Hannity,” the only significant thing Mueller could possibly say is whether he would have indicted Donald Trump if he were a private citizen instead of president of the United States.

“I think what the Democrats are going to focus on is, had that [Justice Department] policy not been in place [against indicting a sitting president], would you have indicted private citizen Donald Trump? That’s the only thing that can come out of this for the Democrats that would be significant,” Gowdy told host Sean Hannity.

TREY GOWDY: MUELLER DOES NOT WANT TO ‘PARTICIPATE’ IN KEEPING THE RUSSIA STORY ALIVE

Mueller was supposed to appear before the House Judiciary and Intelligence committees this coming Wednesday but on Friday his scheduled hearings were postponed until July 24.

Gowdy — a Republican who declined to seek re-election last November after representing South Carolina‘s 4th Congressional District for four terms, from 2011 until January of this year — also advised Republicans to ask Mueller about all the things he “didn’t bother to look for” during an investigation that lasted two years.

“If you’re a Republican,” Gowdy said, “you’re going to want to ask about bias. You’re going to want to ask about what you didn’t look into — and I also have a bunch of friends on that committee. I would spend all of my time getting Mueller to talk about things he didn’t bother to look for.”

The former chairman of the House Oversight Committee (2017-2019) and House Benghazi Committee (2014-2016) told Hannity that America wouldn’t learn much from the hearings unless Mueller “fumbles.”

“Trust me when I say, Sean … We’re not going to learn a lot unless he fumbles. The answer from my point of view, the Republican point of view, if he fumbles, the answer on why he did not indict Donald Trump, then this thing will continue to go on for another six to nine, twelve months,” Gowdy said.

Democrats are inching closer to effectively opposing any law governing immigration, according to radio host and former CIA analyst Buck Sexton.

Politicians who made critical statements ahead of planned ICE raids this weekend believe some people can ignore certain laws if the statute does not follow Democratic orthodoxy, Sexton claimed Friday on “Tucker Carlson Tonight.”

WHY THOSE ICE RAIDS ARE BEING ANNOUNCED IN ADVANCE

“There’s a momentum toward insanity at this point,” he said, adding: “It’s quite clear that they’re engaged in mass nullification of immigration law.”

Sexton was reacting to statements by several Democratic politicians, in a montage played by host Tucker Carlson.

In the video, Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., called the raids “a crime against humanity.”

Responding, Carlson said he believed Harris was saying that enforcing court-ordered deportations is somehow a crime.

In another example, Hillary Clinton tweeted a cautionary flyer in Spanish with the caption “Por favor comparte” or “please share.”

California Gov. Gavin Newsom, D-Calif., released a video in which he advised people who receive visits from law enforcement to respond, “No abras la puerta.” (“Do not open the door.”)

“Without a warrant, you do not have to open the door,” Newsom said.

In response, Sexton claimed such politicians are flirting with defying another immigration law.

“They’re getting close to violating another statute of immigration, which is aiding and abetting,” he said.

Carlson further added, “picture a Republican governor making a video, telling voters how to cheat on their taxes, or how to buy illegal guns.”

Starting Sunday, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is expected to resume its previously announced plan to apprehend thousands of illegal immigrants across the country.

The reinvigorated effort comes just weeks after President Trump tweeted that ICE was preparing to kick off days of raids in at least 10 major cities. The operation was halted, however, the day before it was set to start, to give Congress time to arrive at a legislative solution on immigration. Trump said his administration would relaunch the raids after a two-week window, and that time now seems to have arrived.

“It’s unprecedented. But there is a political purpose behind it,” Thomas Kilbride, a retired Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agent and ICE policy adviser, told Fox News. He said the president has tried to get Democrats to come to the table because asylum laws need to change, and this is a way to bargain.

ICE agents are expected to target a minimum of 2,000 immigrants who have already been listed for deportation, but Kilbride said there will be “collateral” fallout.

Michael Knowles: Piece calling ‘Lion King’ fascist ‘the stupidest article I’ve ever read in The Washington Post’

“Who knew?”

That’s the reaction from conservative commentator Michael Knowles after a Dutch professor wrote a Washington Post column criticizing Disney’s classic “The Lion King” as both fascist and racist.

Conservatives, moderates and some Democrats have been painted as fascistic, and now animated children’s tales have joined their ranks, Knowles asserted Friday on “The Story.”

“I’m actually just so pleased that for the last three years that every American slightly to the left of Hillary Clinton has been called a fascist — and now we’re in the same company as a beloved Disney cartoon character,” he said.

“This was the stupidest article I’ve ever read in the Washington Post.”

In the article, Utrecht University media studies professor Dan Hassler-Forest argues that the “nostalgic”-feeling Circle of Life scene is “a painful reminder of the film’s ideological agenda: It introduces us to a society where the weak have learned to worship at the feet of the strong.”

“‘The Lion King’ offers us fascist ideology writ large, and there is no obvious way out for the remake. … With the lions standing in for the ruling class, and the “good” herbivores embodying society’s decent, law-abiding citizens, the hyenas transparently represent the black, brown and disabled bodies that are forcefully excluded from this hierarchical society,” Hassler-Forest wrote.

In his response, Knowles said the professor’s claims are an example of the problems he sees on college campuses.

“The trouble is this was written by a professor, and that tells you all you need to know about higher education,” he said.

“Everything they don’t like is Hitlerian. … Kingdoms are fascistic,” he continued, adding the latter conclusion must be “news to” the U.K.’s Queen Elizabeth II.

Knowles said he sees “The Lion King” as a charming tale based on themes in “Hamlet” and the Old Testament books of Genesis and Exodus.
