Jim Jordan: Dems oppose census citizenship question over fear of exposing non-citizens, illegal immigrants

Democrats oppose the presence of a citizenship question on the 2020 census because it will expose how many people in the U.S. are either non-citizens or here illegally, according to Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio.

“I think they are a little nervous about what the number may be,” Jordan said Tuesday on “Tucker Carlson Tonight.”  You actually may find out how many people — maybe it’s not 11 million, the number we hear all the time. Maybe it’s a higher number of people who are here who aren’t citizens or here in some illegal fashion.”

TED CRUZ: CITIZENSHIP QUESTION ON CENSUS IS ‘BASIC COMMON SENSE’

The decennial census delineates congressional districts by population, meaning anyone counted in the census adds to that apportionment, the congressman added.

In addition, host Tucker Carlson questioned why the Democrats, the self-described “party of science” would be against “gathering data.”

“They have no real explanation for that,” said Carlson, who added that other countries, including neighboring Canada, have a citizenship question on their census and are not deemed “racist.”

In response, Jordan remarked that the “racism” claim was what opponents “use all the time when they want to accuse us of things they disagree with or want a different policy.”

“[Supreme Court Justice Samuel] Alito said it best — no one disagrees that it’s important to know how many immigrants are in your country,” said Jordan, who added the question has been included in most census tallies going back to the Monroe administration.

“In one form or another, it’s been asked for 200 years,” he said. ” …This is … so common sense.”

Charlie Hurt: Joe Biden has been ‘part of the problem in DC for 50 years’

Former Vice President Joe Biden constant push to become president has made him a big part of the problem with the federal government, according to Charlie Hurt.

In his time in D.C., Biden’s main focus has been trying to win his way to the Oval Office, Hurt claimed Tuesday on “The Story.”

“People forget Joe Biden has been part of the problem in Washington for nearly 50 years,” he said.

“The entire time he’s been in Washington, he’s been trying to figure out how to become president. He’s run a couple of times and it’s been disastrous.

BIDEN MAKES ANOTHER EYEBROW-RAISING CAMPAIGN PROMISE

“The closest he’s ever gotten to the White House is when Barack Obama needed somebody that fit his description. It’s a good reminder that he really is kind of bad at this.”

Looking at past elections, the Washington Times opinion editor added the current crop of more liberal Democratic candidates resembles a candidate from the 2004 presidential election.

Hurt said many Democratic voters didn’t like then-President George W. Bush, but instead of immediately coalescing around a centrist Democrat, they sought politicians like former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean.

“They ran off with Howard Dean for a long time, and then at the last minute they were reminded electability was the only thing they cared about, so they jumped into the arms of John Kerry,” he said. “Of course it didn’t work out so well.”

On the campaign trail, Biden recently raised eyebrows with his latest campaign promise — this time, pledging to cut prison incarceration by “more than” 50 percent.

Speaking with an ACLU member at a campaign event on in South Carolina over the weekend, Biden was asked about the initiative being headed by the organization to develop a “roadmap for cutting incarceration by 50 percent.”

“Do you commit to cutting incarceration by 50 percent?” the man, who identified himself as an ACLU member, asked.

“More than that,” Biden responded. “We can do it more than that.”

Greg Gutfeld: Pelosi’s ‘heart isn’t even in’ her ‘overdone’ racial smear against Trump

Fox News’ Greg Gutfeld blasted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and her assertion that the controversial Census question about illegal immigration is racist, pointing out the absurdity of her argument.

“So counting now is racist. Is accounting racist?” Gutfeld asked sarcastically on “The Five” Tuesday. “When someone gets an I.D…. for beer is that racist? If you’re filling out a job application is that racist? Anytime information is asked, will now be considered racist?”

“This is, it’s so overdone now that it’s becoming background noise.”.

The comments came after Pelosi slammed the Trump administration for its ongoing efforts to include a citizenship question in the 2020 U.S. Census, suggesting there’s a racial component by invoking President Trump‘s 2016 campaign motto.

TOP DEMOCRAT ON HOUSE APPROPRIATIONS PANELS WILL FIGHT TO OPPOSE TRUMP CITIZENSHIP QUESTION ON CENSUS

During Monday’s press conference on election security, Pelosi called President Trump’s battle over the census “disgraceful,” pointing to his Supreme Court setback that rejected the administration’s argument for having a question about citizenship in the census.

“This is about keeping — you know, ‘Make America’- his hat? Make America White Again,” she continued. “They want to make sure that people — –certain people are counted. It’s really disgraceful and it’s not what our Founders had in mind.”

But Gutfeld wasn’t buying it, even going so far as to accuse Pelosi of not believing her own comments saying her “heart wasn’t even in it” and trying to reach younger members of her party.

“One minute Pelosi is this seasoned pro that understands working with people. And the next thing she throws on the social justice warrior costume is a Gramps putting on board shorts to go skateboarding at the wharf,” Gutfeld said.

Jesse Watters: CNN Democratic debate lottery a ‘gimmick,’ Lemon should not moderate

CNN’s decision to use a televised lottery in determining its 2020 Democratic presidential debate lineups is a ratings ploy, according to Jesse Watters.

Furthermore, primetime host Don Lemon is the wrong fit for an objective moderator, Watters claimed Tuesday on “The Five.”

“As far as the lottery thing goes, it’s a gimmick,” he said. “They’ve lost about 20 percent of their primetime audience and our primetime audience more than triples them.”

Watters also said he believed the second set of Democratic debates are too important to be decided by a random, televised lottery.

CNN DOES ‘DISSERVICE TO VOTERS’ BY NAMING DON LEMON DEBATE MODERATOR, CRITIC SAYS

“It is too consequential of a debate for the Democrats and for the American people to have it left up to chance,” he said.

Additionally, Watters claimed Lemon is too biased to be given the tacit credibility of a debate moderator.

“He seems like a nice guy,” Watters said of the 53-year-old Louisiana native.

“But he is an opinion host, he’s not a straight shooter.”

Lemon will join Dana Bash and Jake Tapper for the two-night event on July 30-31 from Detroit. Debate moderators are historically straight-news journalists, as opposed to partisan pundits.

The “Watters’ World” host said he saw Lemon as too reminiscent of MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow — who co-moderated the last set of debates — adding Anderson Cooper would be a better fit among Bash and Tapper.

On July 18, CNN will reveal its lineups for the debates scheduled later this month.

Bret Baier: Trump administration will consider ‘retooling’ citizenship question

Bret Baier has argued that the Trump administration will continue to push for inclusion of the controversial citizenship question on the 2020 census, despite being thwarted by the Supreme Court last week.

It was ruled last month the question couldn’t be added for now, but left open the possibility that additional arguments could change its mind. Civil rights groups argued that the Trump administration’s reasons for including the question were merely pretextual efforts to discourage illegal immigrants from responding to the Census.

“There’s a possibility of retooling it and going a different way at it,” Baier said during a Tuesday appearance on “The Daily Briefing With Dana Perino.”

CAL THOMAS: CENSORING THE CENSUS IS ABOUT POLITICS, NOT THE LAW

“The administration, at the president’s guidance, will try to do that,” the “Special Report” host continued.

The Commerce Department has previously said that the deadline to begin the process of printing census forms was June 30, but President Trump has made clear his desire to delay census printing until the question is included.

“I have asked the lawyers if they can delay the Census, no matter how long, until the United States Supreme Court is given additional information from which it can make a final and decisive decision on this very critical matter,” he tweeted on June 27, the day the decision was handed down.

The question was controversial and the subject of several lawsuits after many lawmakers argued that residents who are not living legally in the United States would simply not return the census – leading to misappropriation of resources and improper political representation.

Population counts from the Census are used to apportion House seats among the 50 states, and a new electoral map based on the Census will be in effect for the 2024 presidential election. States receive votes in the Electoral College equal to the number of members in their congressional delegation, counting both House and Senate seats.

CBP official supports pentagon troop surge at southern border, calls for criminal loopholes to be closed

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Deputy Commissioner Robert Perez said he supports sending 1,000 more National Guard troops to the U.S. southern border and advocated for closing immigration loopholes to discourage criminal activity.

Perez said the request was based on a humanitarian need to stem overcrowding and will provide relief for overworked border patrol officers, who are currently guarding the nation’s ports of entry.

“Our partners in the Department of Defense have been critical partners of ours in collaborating to help deal with the border crisis we’ve had and augmenting our border patrol agents, our CBP officers — all of our operations on the front line to get our agents and officers back to their law enforcement duties,” he said on “America’s Newsroom” Tuesday.

TLAIB DOUBLES DOWN ON AOC’S CONCENTRATION CAMP COMMENTS, CLAIMS BORDER AGENTS BELIEVE IT’S A ‘BROKEN SYSTEM’

“This latest request is specifically to help support our ongoing humanitarian crisis and deploy some of those National Guard folks both to additional soft sided facilities that we will be putting up later this month — in addition to the ones we’ve already put up, to deal with the overcrowding in our border patrol stations,” he continued.

“And also [to] deploy some of that National Guard back to the ports of entry to support the CBP officers, many of which have been redeployed into our border patrol stations — again to help deal with the front line of this ongoing crisis.”

Perez’s comments come after the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) requested the troop surge from the Pentagon on Monday, to help bolster border security efforts in Texas.

MOST DEMS VOW TO DECRIMINALIZE ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION DURING NIGHT 2 DEBATE

He also said the criminal element is thriving on the border and requires reinforcements to help turn the tide and shut down their operations, which include human trafficking and gang-related activity.

“Our agents deal with the criminal element that we are still having to manage, all the while dealing with this ongoing humanitarian challenge,” Perez said.

“There are alien smuggling organizations that continue to exploit these loopholes by way of moving these incredibly vulnerable populations, particularly children, through our borders. They’re using children as virtual passports, and at times, even recycling them. But there is also other criminal elements. Gang members, drug smugglers, that we absolutely need to pay attention to, and do on a daily basis. Having more of our military partners alongside us will help us perform that mission.”

AOC CLAIMS WOMEN AT BORDER FACILITY FORCED TO DRINK ‘OUT OF TOILETS’ AFTER TOUR

Perez said border officials have been shining a light on the current crisis for a year and a half and called the chaos “unprecedented.”

“I think it’s really important to note that for the better part of 18 months, we’ve been sounding the alarms. Letting people know that there was an unprecedented number and volume and different types of demographic that was arriving at our border,” he said.

“I think universally people understand that we do have a crisis. It took us nearly two months to convince folks on Capitol Hill that we needed more resources by virtue of a supplemental bill to the tune of $4.5 billion, which we finally have received, to deal with some of the resourcing needs in the immediate term, to deal with this crisis. Now, we need people to focus on the legal loopholes and fix those.

“Those are the loopholes that are being exploited by criminal alien smuggling organizations. Those are the loopholes that — the most vulnerable populations are being preyed upon by virtue of them — specifically children, as I just mentioned. And we absolutely need to fix those loopholes to put these criminals out of business.”

James Patterson: Epstein case worse than Weinstein, Cosby, others during #MeToo era

Jeffrey Epstein alleged crimes are worse than Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein and comedian Bill Cosby, and arguably the worst of the #MeToo era, according to best-selling author James Patterson.

Patterson, who wrote the book on Epstein — Filthy Rich: The Billionaire’s Sex Scandal–The Shocking True Story of Jeffrey Epstein, discussed the disgraced financiers accused acts during an interview on “The Daily Briefing” on Tuesday.

Epstein was charged this week with sex trafficking and conspiracy during the early 2000s. He pleaded not guilty on Monday in New York City federal court.

“It’s horrifying… these are girls, allegedly hundreds of girls,” Patterson told host Dana Perino while discussing the charges against Epstein. The veteran author then told Perino he had been told personally that President Trump kicked Epstein out of his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida after learning of an alleged incident with a staff member.

TRUMP SAYS HE WAS ‘NOT A FAN’ OF JEFFREY EPSTEIN, DESPITE PAST COMMENTS

“There were some complaints about Epstein at Mar-a-Lago,” he said. “I spoke to the head of the sap there. I said, ‘did you ever meet Epstein?’ She said, ‘oh yes… he was inappropriate with some of the younger women there.’

“She said she went to Trump and he threw him out of the club.”

Patterson told Perino that hundreds of people have come up to him and thanked him for writing his book “Filthy Rich” on Epstein. The author also speculated that Epstein would get significant time behind bars, saying: I would be surprised if Epstein didn’t spend a fair amount of time in jail.”

Epstein’s case has created a flurry of media coverage and prompted questions about the president and others’ relationships with the accused sex offender.

Earlier on Tuesday, Trump said he was “not a fan” of Epstein, despite making comments in the past praising the wealthy hedge fund manager.

AG BARR WILL NOT RECUSE HIMSELF FROM EPSTEIN CASE, DESPITE INITIAL STATEMENT

During a meeting in the Oval Office with the emir of Qatar, the president was asked about his relationship with the 66-year-old.

“I know him, just like everybody in Palm Beach knew him,” Trump said. “People in Palm Beach knew him. He was a fixture in Palm Beach.”

“I had a falling out with him a long time ago,” Trump continued. “I don’t think I’ve spoken to him in 15 years. I was not a fan. I was not a fan of his. That I can tell you. I was not a fan.”

BILL CLINTON ‘KNOWS NOTHING’ ABOUT EPSTEIN’S ‘TERRIBLE CRIMES’

Back in 2002, when New York Magazine was profiling Epstein, Trump touted their relationship.

“I’ve known Jeff for fifteen years. Terrific guy. He’s a lot of fun to be with,” Trump reportedly said. “It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side.”

Epstein and Trump were said to have been friends—something the president’s legal team has denied.

Epstein was also once friends with former President Bill Clinton and Britain’s Prince Andrew.

PELOSI CALLS FOR ACOSTA TO STEP DOWN OVER EPSTEIN PLEA DEAL, HITS TRUMP

Clinton, on Monday, released a statement acknowledging that he had taken a total of four trips on Epstein’s private jet, but said he “knows nothing” about the “terrible crimes” linked to Epstein.

Separately, claims in court showed that Trump may have flown on the jet at least once as well.

On “Daily Briefing,” Patterson said nobody knew of Epstein’s alleged crimes, despite him being a well-known figure.

“Nobody knew. You can’t do something like that. If anybody knows — I have friends in town right now. They live on the street. They didn’t know. They lived two houses away,” he said.

The best-selling author then said he believes Clinton did not know, and he “knows Trump didn’t know.”

Epstein was charged this week with sex trafficking and conspiracy during the early 2000s. Epstein pleaded not guilty on Monday in New York City federal court.

“The victims described herein were as young as 14 years old at the time they were abused…and were, for various reasons, often particularly vulnerable to exploitation,” prosecutors wrote in court documents. “Epstein intentionally sought out minors and knew that many of his victims were in fact under the age of 18.”

Epstein allegedly created and maintained a “vast network” and operation from 2002 “up to and including” at least 2005 that enabled him to “sexually exploit and abuse dozens of underage girls” in addition to paying victims to recruit other underage girls.

Prosecutors also allege Epstein “worked and conspired with others, including employees and associates” who helped facilitate his conduct by contacting victims and scheduling their sexual encounters with the 66-year-old at his mansion in New York City and Palm, Beach, Fla.

Victims would be paid hundreds of dollars in cash by either Epstein or one of his associates or employees, according to prosecutors. The 66-year-old also allegedly “incentivized his victims” to become recruiters by paying the victim-recruiters hundreds of dollars for each girl brought to him.

Fox News Sunday anchor Chris Wallace said Tuesday, following the death of Ross Perot, that former President George H.W. Bush always felt that the Texas billionaire cost him re-election in 1992 against Bill Clinton.

“I spent some time in his post-presidency with George H.W. Bush. He was an enormously graceful and kind man. The only person I ever heard him speak ill of was Ross Perot,” said Wallace on “America’s Newsroom,” recalling that Bush and his backers believed Perot’s 19.7 million votes pulled much more support from him than from Clinton.

ROSS PEROT’S BILLION-DOLLAR JOURNEY, FROM TOP SALESMAN TO BUSINESS MAGNATE

Perot, who also ran for president in 1996, died Tuesday at age 89 after a five-month battle with leukemia. He won 19 percent of the vote in 1992 and 8 percent in 1996 as an independent candidate.

Wallace recalled that Perot was a self-made billionaire “when it meant something,” before there were so many other billionaire moguls in the United States.

He said Perot made a name for himself as a candidate by highlighting the spiraling national debt in 1992, when the number was a small fraction of the current $20 trillion. In addition, he decried the jobs that would be lost to Mexico due to NAFTA.

Perot famously spoke of the “giant sucking sound” of American jobs being lost to Mexico.

Sol Wisenberg on Robert Mueller hearing: Dems think Americans ‘are stupid’ and need the report explained to them

Fox News contributor Sol Wisenberg said Tuesday that Democrats “think the American people are stupid” and need to hear former Special Counsel Robert Mueller explain his report on Russian election interference.

Mueller is scheduled to appear at public hearings July 17 before the House Intelligence and Judiciary Committees, marking only the second time he has spoken about his two-year investigation.

Responding on “America’s Newsroom,” Wisenberg — a lawyer and former Deputy Independent Counsel in the Whitewater/Lewinsky Investigation — doubted that the hearings will have the effect Democrats desire.

TRUMP ATTY JAY SEKULOW: HERE’S THE QUESTIONS MUELLER MUST BE ASKED ON JULY 17

“The Democrats believe the American people are stupid,” he said, adding that Democrats think if Americans watch the hearings, they will support the impeachment of President Trump.

“It didn’t work when they put John Dean there; now they’re gonna try Bob Mueller. I just don’t think it’s gonna work,” he argued.

Wisenberg cautioned that House Republicans must ask legitimate questions and avoid “demagoguing” about their issues with Mueller’s investigation.

“I just don’t think we’re gonna see a lot of intelligent questions on either side. I think we’re gonna see a lot of demagoguery,” he concluded.

On Monday, Attorney General Bill Barr said the Department of Justice will support Mueller if he decides he “doesn’t want to subject himself” to the Democrats’ questioning. Barr called the upcoming hearing a “public spectacle.”

In previous comments, Mueller suggested that in congressional testimony, he would not go beyond the contents of the investigative report, which did not find evidence of Trump-Russia collusion and did not make a determination on whether Trump obstructed justice.

Is former President Barack Obama behind Sen. Kamala Harris‘ recent surge?

Fox News’ Laura Ingraham believes so and she made her case Monday night on “The Ingraham Angle.”

She said Biden is not needed to be the heir of “Obama-ism.”

“Harris is a much more logical fit and some notable Obama administration alums are already working for Harris,” Ingraham said.

SOME 2020 DEMS TURN ON KAMALA HARRIS FOR ATTACKING BIDEN, THEN BACKTRACKING

“And who doubts, come on, that Kamala and her team are in contact with the Obamas.”

Ingraham said that Harris will do anything to be president including smear Biden.

“She’ll say and do anything to win including bloodying up Biden with a vicious racial smear,” Ingraham said.

The Fox News host said Harris needs to defeat Biden and win over black voters.

“He’s the only real challenge standing in the way of her claiming the Obama mantle because what could be more historic following the first male African-American president than four years later the first female African-American president and to beat him she has to win over black voters,” Ingraham said.

Ingraham blasted Harris’ $100 billion housing plan that will fund down payments and closing costs African-Americans calling it “racial pandering” and asking about the wealth gap for Hispanics and Native Americans.

“Well this is clearly racial pandering of the worst sort but it’s designed to appeal voters away from Joe Biden,” Ingraham said.
