Florida Senator Rick Scott believes President Trump has the Sunshine State in the bag for 2020.

Scott, a member of the armed services committee, told “America’s Newsroom” Thursday why he thinks Trump will sweep the critical battleground state.

TRUMP, AT FLORIDA RALLY, MOCKS 2020 FIELD: ‘I WANT TO WATCH THAT ONE’ WHEN BUTTIGIEG CUTS DEALS WITH CHINA’S XI

“I think President Trump’s going to have a big win for this reason,” Scott said. “The economy’s on fire.”

The Florida senator added: “He supports the military, which is a big deal to our state. We have 20 military bases. He is focused on the things that people care about. They care about border security. If you look at what Secretary Azar is doing trying to get drug prices down. The president is doing his job and the people will reward him with a big win in 2020.”

The former governor said Trump has all the right policies for the “melting pot” of the Southeast state, including the economy, combatting Russia, keeping Americans safe, staying out of the Iran deal, and making sure disputed Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro leaves the country.

Scott’s comments come on the heels of a raucous Panama City Beach rally in which the president rallied his base and announced $448 million in hurricane recovery funds to communities affected by last year’s Category 5 Hurricane Michael.

“In the wake of the terrible storm, this extraordinary community pulled together and showed the world your unbreakable spirit,” Trump told supporters. “Today, I’m doing the most allowed by law to support the people of Florida. Because of the severity of the storm — Category 5 — we will have the federal government pay for 90 percent of the cost in many circumstances.”

Scott slammed Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer for saying Democrats care about disaster relief but failing to pass a bill.

“Ask Chuck Schumer why he doesn’t care about Florida and why he doesn’t care about the panhandle?” he said. “He is late to the game trying to say the Democrats care about Puerto Rico when they don’t.”

Scott said the United States needs to put a naval blockade on Cuba to help combat the “manmade” crisis caused by Maduro, aided by Cuba, Russia, China, Iran, and Hezbollah.

“We’ll have Syria in this hemisphere. We have all the bad players. If we don’t do it now we’ll have to do it later. Cuba is causing all the problems in Latin America,” Scott added. “We should have stopped it in the early 60s and we didn’t.”

Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner says that the city is moving toward the decriminalization of possession of small amounts of drugs,  on the grounds that often medical treatment – and not criminal charges – is the right solution.

On “Fox & Friends” Thursday, host Brian Kilmeade asked if Philadelphia puts the plan in place, becoming the first city in the nation with such a policy, would it be the right approach, or would it amount to “a free pass on possession, too easy on crime?”

Luke Niforators, chief of staff at the non-profit Smart Approaches to Marijana, or SMART, told Kilmeade he saw more harm than good in the Philadelphia plan.

“Obviously we don’t want to give people records,” Niforators said. “But by the same token, having these policies make drug use seem like it’s no big deal and is sending the wrong message to our country and [younger] generation.”

DENVER NARROWLY VOTES TO DECRIMINALIZE ‘MAGIC MUSHROOMS’

“These policies say…this is more of a medical, not really a criminal, problem. They are missing the point. It’s not either/or, we can do both,” Niforators said. “There are the drug courts. We have ways to address treatment and drug issues medically while also discouraging use and having our criminal laws.”

In a recent interview with “Axios on HBO,” Krasner said that diverting people found with small amounts of drugs to treatment or community service rather than jail ultimately would be the most fair and beneficial approach for both the user and the rest of society. In 2014, Philadelphia became the first major city in the nation to pass an ordinance allowing people with less than 30 grams, which is less an ounce, of marijuana to get just a $25 ticket.

“We are talking about people who are using drugs,” Krasner said. “The vast majority of them suffering from addiction. I do not see value in convicting people like that.”

Michael C. Barnes, chairman of the not-for-profit Center for U.S. Policy, and former counsel in the White House drug policy office under President George W. Bush, agrees with Krasner.

“This is not just decriminalization, this program would be pre-arrest diversion for people who are nonviolent or who have mental health or substance abuse disorders,” Barnes said on “Fox & Friends.” “What this means is cops on the street who actually know mental illness and substance abuse better than anybody else…have the discretion, based on their experience, to divert somebody to treatment. The crime remains the same….if it were somebody who has also committed some violent crime or is not in need of treatment.”

“We still reserve the right to file charges and sent the person to the criminal justice system,” Barnes said.

Niforators, however, remained unconvinced.

“Obviously we should have [treatment] programs,” Niforators said. “The concern on the other side…is that if we don’t have some sort of stick in place, people are going to think that drug use is no big deal…Sending a message that this is just a medical problem is not the right way to go. We have to let the public know that [drug use] should be discouraged.”

Josh Holmes, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s former chief of staff, reacted Thursday to the House panel’s recommendation to hold Attorney General William Barr in contempt dubbing it, “theater at its finest and it’s partisanship at its finest.”

Holmes made the comments on “America’s Newsroom” on Thursday, one day after House Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., declared a “constitutional crisis” following his committee’s vote to hold the attorney general in contempt for defying a subpoena for Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s unredacted Russia report and underlying documents.

“This is an absolute embarrassment in my view for the House of Representatives,” Holmes said.

NADLER ONCE CALLED HOLDER CONTEMPT VOTE ‘SHAMEFUL,’ NOW LEADS CHARGE AGAINST BARR

Holmes also referenced Nadler’s tweet from 2012 where Nadler slammed House Republicans for holding the attorney general at the time, Eric Holder, in contempt, calling it a “hypocrisy.”

In 2012, House Republicans took the same step against then-AG Holder for refusing to hand over documents related to the Fast and Furious gun-running scandal, where Department of Justice officials tracked thousands of guns smuggled across the border but did nothing to stop them.

“Just joined the #walkout of the House chamber to protest the shameful, politically-motivated GOP vote holding AG [Eric] Holder in contempt,” Nadler tweeted in 2012.

He joined more than 100 Democrats in walking out over the vote to hold the Obama-era DOJ leader in contempt.

“I think the biggest part about Jerry Nadler is that he has full, unredacted access to the Mueller report. In fact, he can see the entire thing and he has not availed himself of that opportunity,” Holmes said in response.

“If his true motive here is to try to get the facts and try to understand what Mueller has reported you would think at a bare minimum you would read the report that’s already available before you would start having these circus hearings and trying to hold the attorney general in contempt.”

DONALD TRUMP JR. SUBPOENAED BY SENATE INTELLIGENCE COMMITTEE, SOURCE SAYS

Holmes also discussed President Trump’s rally in battleground Florida the night before saying, “The campaign has started and I think it looks OK here at the beginning for President Trump.”

He added, “I think there’s a good golden rule of politics, the candidate who looks like he’s having the most fun is usually the one that’s winning.”

“And the contrast there for President Trump at his rally last night in Florida, I mean everybody seemed to be having a lot of fun, and you can contrast that with how these 2020ers have been marching around the country in this sort of dour mood, full of negativity.”

Regarding Trump’s rallies, Holmes said they are “the first entertaining rallies in the history of politics,” adding that “nobody does it better than President Trump.”

“Mostly these things are pretty dry and it’s all about speaking to the partisans but I mean I think most people can watch this and be entertained one way or another.”

Fox News Senior Judicial Analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano pushed back on Democrat claims of a “constitutional crisis,” saying instead there is just a “clash.”

Napolitano made the comments on “Fox & Friends” Thursday in response to House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., declaring a “constitutional crisis” on Wednesday after his committee voted to hold Attorney General William Barr in contempt for defying a subpoena for Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s unredacted Russia report and underlying documents.

“By law the attorney general did the right thing with respect to the redaction. But when you get a subpoena, which is presumed valid even if it’s politically motivated it’s presumed valid, it’s a legal instrument, you can’t sit on it,” Napolitano said Thursday.

NADLER DECLARES ‘CONSTITUTIONAL CRISIS’ AFTER CONTEMPT VOTE, ACCUSES TRUMP OF ATTACKING ‘ESSENCE OF OUR DEMOCRACY’

“If you can’t comply with it, you file a motion before the appropriate judge to quash it, that’s the word we use, meaning either get rid of it, modify it or authorize me to comply with it.”

Nadler’s committee voted along partisan lines to hold Barr in contempt on Wednesday and angered the White House by not delaying the vote. At the same time, the president invoked executive privilege — refusing to comply with Congressional subpoenas.

Nadler accused the White House of “stonewalling” the American people and attacking “the essence of our democracy.”

Barr was set to testify before the House panel earlier this month, following his remarks before the Senate, but pulled out after Democrats insisted committee staff, rather than members of Congress, be allowed to ask the questions.

“That’s the mistake, I think, the DOJ made by not doing that and letting it get to this contempt stage,” Napolitano said. “If they had brought it before a judge, the judge would have said, ‘You know, I’m going to read the redacted portions and I’ll decide what can be released,’ and then the issue is over with because the judge’s ruling would stand. Whoever lost would appeal. Who knows if they would even take the appeal, if it would get to the Supreme Court.”

JUDGE ANDREW NAPOLITANO: DID PRESIDENT TRUMP OBSTRUCT JUSTICE?

Nadler also compared Trump to former President Richard Nixon on Wednesday in that both refused to release information by citing executive privilege.

Nadler recalled the Supreme Court decision forcing Nixon to hand over tapes of his private conversations with advisers, which he said were the “most sensitive to executive privilege.”

“This is what happened in the United States vs. Nixon and the Supreme Court ruled with clarity,” Napolitano said on Thursday.

“Do we have a constitutional crisis in my opinion? We don’t. We would have a constitutional crisis if the courts ordered the president or the Congress to do something and either of them defied the courts. That’s the crisis. Right now it’s just a clash.”

CNN Tonight” anchor Don Lemon seemed to board the impeachment train Wednesday, predicting that Democratic lawmakers will actually go after President Trump and suggesting it could be the “remedy” for what some Democrats have called a “constitutional crisis.”

“Ever wonder what a constitutional crisis looks like? Well, open your eyes,” Lemon began his monologue, echoing the declaration of House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y. “The president of the United States is just blowing right through our system of checks and balances, the very thing that is supposed to keep our Congress, the Judicary, and the Executive Branch working, which means our country working. He is engaging in an ongoing coverup by defying at every turn the representatives of you, the American people, the very people who are supposed to be investigating fact-finding on our behalf.”

Lemon then interviewed Nadler about his committee’s vote to hold Attorney General William Barr in contempt for allegedly failing to comply with their requests regarding further disclosure of the Mueller report and asked what was the “remedy” to a constitutional crisis.

“Well, we don’t exactly know what the remedy to [a] constitutional crisis [is,] other than the application of law,” Nadler responded before listing all the ways he believed the Trump administration was being “lawless.”

“Why is that remedy not impeachment?” Lemon asked.

“It may come to that if the president keeps up with this conduct, but we’ll see,” Nadler answered.

During a panel discussion, Lemon congratulated himself for predicting that Democrats would eventually pursue impeachment.

“I hate to pat myself on the back, but I’ve said since pretty early on — a couple of weeks ago — it appears that … the ball is rolling toward impeachment, that the Democrats have no other choice and do this,” Lemon said. “They either ignore the rule of law or — because then they too may look like they’re allowing the president to just run roughshod over them and over the Constitution.”

“How can Democrats like Nadler say that this is a constitutional crisis, but then not use the tool they have to stop a constitutional crisis?” Lemon later asked.

Lemon later clarified that he thought the “momentum” was heading toward impeachment but did not specifically predict that Democrats would be successful.

Congressman John Garamendi said Wednesday on “Outnumbered Overtime” that the debate over whether to hold Attorney General William Barr in contempt of Congress for not turning over the unredacted Mueller report may lead to a “fundamental fight” over the balance of power in Washington.

Garamendi, D-Calif., a member of the House Armed Services Committee, warned that President Trump’s assertion of executive privilege protecting those documents from Congress may set a powerful precedent if a court decides in the Republican’s favor.

“There is a fundamental fight going on here about power distribution between the three branches of government,” he said.

TRUMP INVOKES EXECUTIVE PRIVILEGE OVER MUELLER REPORT: HERE’S HOW IT WORKS

Garamendi said that whether or not Trump retains the White House in the 2020 election, America may “end up with an extremely powerful president” when it comes to the office itself going forward.

Garamendi said that the Barr situation may very well land before a federal court.

“If Trump is able to continue the path that he’s on, there will be a radical change of power between the Congress, the courts and the presidency,” he said.

At the beginning of Wednesday’s hearing, Chairman Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., said that “no person… can be permitted to flout the will of Congress and defy a valid subpoena.”

The top Republican on the panel, Rep. Doug Collins of Georgia, called the vote to hold Barr in contempt a “cynical, mean-spirited [and] counterproductive step.”

“Democrats have no plans, no purpose and no viable agenda beyond attacking this administration,” Collins said.

Speaking in the same Fox News interview as Garamendi, House Judiciary Committee Member Tom McClintock, R-Calif., said that the Democrats know that Barr cannot comply with their subpoena and obey the law at the same time.

President Trump said Wednesday that America is the “the piggy bank that everybody wants to rob,” and that his administration is helping the country’s economy excel.

Speaking at a rally in the Florida Panhandle, Trump said that the United States lost millions of manufacturing jobs during the Obama administration.

“They let other countries raid our factories, steal our jobs and rob us blind,” Trump said. “Other than that, they were very nice.”

Trump said that previous administrations “allowed China to freely loot our economy” and steal intellectual property.

TRUMP, AT FLORIDA RALLY, MOCKS 2020 FIELD: ‘I WANT TO WATCH THAT ONE’ WHEN BUTTIGIEG CUTS DEALS WITH CHINA’S XI

He said that although he considers President Xi Jinping a “friend,” he knows that Xi is in favor of China winning any economic rivalry.

Trump said that under his leadership, America’s market is “the thing that everybody wants.”

Appearing to refer to 2016 campaign rival Hillary Clinton, Trump added that if “another person” were in the White House, that would not be the case — and the night’s rally attendance would total “like 10 people.”

In a Tuesday interview on Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom,” Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., said that Trump “indicated that … the Chinese were starting to get cold feet and move away a little bit from some of the things they agreed upon” in regard to purported “trade abuses.”

“He felt was necessary to take a stronger position relative to what we have so far,” said Thune, the Senate majority whip.

At a rally in Panama City Beach, Fla., on Wednesday, President Trump addressed the political crisis in Venezuela calling the situation “disgraceful.”

“This was one of the wealthiest countries really in the world. And now they’re living so badly, so dangerously,” Trump told the crowd.

POMPEO RIPS SUPPORT FOR VENEZUELA’S MADURO

Disputed Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has fallen under increasing international pressure after being re-elected last year in a contest critics call rigged. Russia, China and Cuba, among other countries, have supported Maduro, while the U.S. and more than 50 other nations have backed and recognized opposition leader Juan Guaidó.

Tuesday, Vice President Pence said the U.S. would extend sanctions to all members of Venezuela’s Supreme Court if they continue to prop up Maduro. The U.S. already has put sanctions on about 150 officials and businesses in the country. On the same day, the court opened a criminal investigation against six opposition lawmakers for allegedly “betraying the homeland” and “instigating an insurrection” following last week’s failed uprising.

“So many people are dying and we’re working hard on that problem and we’re being tough,” Trump said. “It’s not fair what’s happening to those people, great people.”

President Trump riffed on his potential opponents in the 2020 presidential election, making jokes at the expense of three of the current Democratic contenders.

Speaking in Panama City Beach, Fla., Trump said that he hopes the Democrats quickly “pick somebody” to run against him.

“Let’s start this thing,” he said.

Trump appeared to doubt whether South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg could handle complex negotiations with economic rival China.

LIMBAUGH: THE HATRED FOR TRUMP IS A ‘BOTTOMLESS PIT,’ TRUMP FAMILY WILL BE TARGETED IF HE LOSES IN 2020

“We have a young man, Buttigieg. … He’s got a great chance, doesn’t he? He’ll be great representing us against President Xi of China — that’ll be great,” Trump said.

“I want to be in that room, I want to watch that one,” he said.

Trump added that China recently “broke” an economic agreement and that Vice Premier Liu He will be flying to Washington to negotiate a “deal” after tariffs were imposed on Beijing.

During the rally, Trump also expressed concern that several foreign leaders want Vice President Joe Biden to be president.

Laura Ingraham previously discussed the Politico report on her “Ingraham Angle” program.

“Of course they do, so they can continue to rip off the U.S.,” Trump said of the report. “I think if I heard that, I’d never vote for him.”

“Sleepy Joe and Crazy Bernie [Sanders],” he said. “I’ll take any of them.”

Trump later asked the audience about former Rep. Beto O’Rourke, saying the Texas Dem’s poll numbers appear to be “falling like a rock.”

Conversely, Trump heaped praise on a number of Florida Republicans, including Gov. Ron DeSantis and Sens. Rick Scott and Marco Rubio.

Fox News senior judicial analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano said Wednesday that he believes when the dust settles, Special Counsel Robert Mueller and former White House lawyer Donald McGahn will testify before Congress.

“Ultimately, Bob Mueller will testify,” Napolitano predicted on “Shepard Smith Reporting.”

He made a similar prediction about McGahn, whom host Smith noted was quoted extensively in the Mueller report.

Napolitano said there is a “substantial public interest” in hearing from Mueller and McGahn.

In regard to President Trump’s assertion of executive privilege powers, Napolitano said that he’d “waived” the motion in regard to McGahn’s statements to the FBI and Mueller’s team.

He said that Trump gave McGahn permission to be interrogated by the bureau and the special counsel, leaving the subject matter of those conversations outside the realm of executive privilege going forward.

Napolitano added that Mueller is thus far required to follow the orders of his superiors at the executive branch when it comes to testifying before Congress.

Mueller has “also said his work is over, so he could resign his job as special counsel tonight and walk into the House Judiciary Committee tomorrow morning and give testimony,” he added.

The White House is thus far blocking McGahn from producing documents demanded by the Judiciary Committee.

Current White House Counsel Pat Cipollone wrote to Chairman Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., on Tuesday, notifying him that McGahn would not comply with the subpoena, which, according to the letter, seeks certain White House records given to McGahn that are related to Mueller’s investigation.
