A 14-year-old recently featured in Sports Illustrated as one of six teens “who will rule the future in sports,” died after he was shot at a party in Illinois on Saturday night, according to police.

The shooting killed Jaylon McKenzie, 14, an eighth-grade student at Central Junior High School in Belleville, Ill., not far from East St. Louis. A 15-year-old girl was critically injured, police said, adding that no arrests have been made.

McKenzie’s mother said witnesses told her he was hit by a stray bullet after a fight broke out at the party, The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

“It’s so hard to fathom that someone took my baby from me because he dreamed so big,” McKenzie’s mother, Sukeena Gunner, told the Post-Dispatch. “I can just remember him coming into my room and telling my husband to call his name. ‘We have a 5-6 running back, Jayyyyy-lonnnn MacKenzieeee.’ And he would run into the room after his name was called.”

In November, McKenzie told Sports Illustrated his goal was to “Make the NFL” and his dream was to be “a star in L.A.—for the Rams or the Chargers.”

The shooting unfolded in Venice, Ill. around 11:40 p.m. Saturday night, Illinois State Police told Fox News.

Officers were responding to a report of a disturbance and shots fired at a large party. They said when they arrived they found McKenzie and the other teen were shot and needed medical attention. Police said officers immediately began life-saving measures before both victims were transported to nearby hospitals.

McKenzie was pronounced dead a short time after arriving at the hospital.

Gunner told the St. Louis Post Dispatch that her son had been to his school’s eighth-grade dance earlier that night. She said he later went to another school’s post-prom party in Venice.

On Sunday, State Rep. LaToya Greenwood, D-East St. Louis, posted a picture of McKenzie on her Facebook page and wrote, “There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition, and of unspeakable love. #JaylonMcKenzie”

McKenzie played running back, receiver and defensive back. According to Sports Illustrated, he drew national attention in August when he caught five passes for 161 yards and two touchdowns to help the East team to a victory at the NFL’s 8th Grade All-American Game in Ohio.

He’d drawn the attention of college football coaches at the age of 14, the Post-Dispatch reported. He also reportedly got his first verbal scholarship offer in December from the University of Missouri and the University of Illinois reached out to him about a week ago.

More than 600 rockets fired at Israel from Gaza in less than 24 hours, death toll rises

The death toll continues to rise Sunday on both sides of the Israel-Gaza border in one of the most intense flare-ups of violence in the region in years, shattering a month-long lull in attacks.

Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip fired more than 600 rockets into southern Israel in less than 24 hours, killing at least four Israelis and leaving several more in critical condition.

Israel has retaliated with dozens of airstrikes against militant sites in Gaza. More than a dozen Palestinians, including a pregnant woman and her 14-month old niece, have also been killed.

According to Haaretz, four Israeli men and 16 Palestinians were killed so far since tensions increased along the border on Friday. Four Israelis were also wounded as rockets fell on the Israeli south on Saturday.

ISRAEL STRIKES GAZA TARGETS IN RESPONSE TO PALESTINIAN HEAVY ROCKET FIRE

On Sunday, the Israeli military said a misfired Palestinian rocket — not an Israeli airstrike — caused the death of a pregnant Palestinian woman and her infant niece in the Gaza Strip, disputing the Gaza Health Ministry’s statement that Israel is to blame.

According to the Israeli military, Israeli forces struck dozens of targets in Gaza, including militant sites that were concealed in residential areas. Israeli military spokesman Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus said Israel’s strikes hit a variety of “high-quality” militant sites, including commanders’ homes in which militant activity was observed.

Israeli medical officials said an early morning rocket from Gaza Sunday killed an Israeli father of four, 58-year-old Moshe Agadi, outside a home in the coastal city of Ashkelon.

Agadi reportedly died of his injuries after he was struck by shrapnel, marking the first Israeli casualty from rocket fire since the 2014 war with Hamas militants.

According to The Barzilai Medical Center in Israel, a 49-year-old man was killed when a rocket hit an Ashkelon factory, while another man in Israel was killed when his vehicle was hit by a projectile near a small border community called Yad Mordechai.

Israeli medical officials also said a Thai laborer was critically injured in a rocket strike later on Sunday.

ISRAEL SAYS 2 SOLDIERS WOUNDED BY GUNFIRE FROM GAZA

By late afternoon, the Israeli military said militants had fired more than 600 rockets into Israel, and that Israeli forces had launched about 260 airstrikes against militant targets in Gaza.

Palestinian officials identified one of the militants who was killed as Hamas commander Hamed al-Khoudary, who Israel said was integral in transferring Iranian money to the militant group.

In Israel, sirens warning of incoming attacks were heard along the border region overnight and throughout the day. Schools were canceled and roads were closed as many Israelis reportedly hid in bomb shelters.

According to Haaretz, the Israeli army said it expects the flare-up to continue in the coming days. A Hamas political source told the news outlet that the group decided to take serious steps against Israel because the Israeli government has been slow in implementing understandings reached between the two parties.

In Gaza, large explosions thundered across the blockaded enclave throughout the night and plumes of smoke rose into the air.

One of the airstrikes hit a commercial and residential building that housed the office of Turkey’s official Anadolu news agency.

The Israeli military said its Iron Dome defense system intercepted more than 150 of the projectiles from Gaza, but several still managed to get through.

The sudden violence has ended a month-long lull as Egyptian mediators had been trying to negotiate a long-term cease-fire.

An Arizona mother accused of starving her 3-year-old son to death and storing his body in a toy chest has been found guilty of first-degree murder and child abuse.

Raquel Barreras, 44, of Tuscon, was convicted on Friday, KGUN-TV reported.

According to the media outlet, prosecutors said Barreras and her husband Martin starved their son Roman and didn’t allow anyone to feed him.

ARIZONA COUPLE ARRESTED AFTER CHILD’S REMAINS FOUND IN TOY CHEST

Barreras pleaded guilty to the crime and her lawyer said she was a drug addict who was struggling financially.

In opening statements, her defense pushed back on claims she murdered her son and said Roman was a “medically compromised” child, according to The Mirror.

The Tucson couple was arrested in March 2014 after human remains believed to be those of their son were found in a plastic toy chest in the backyard of a home where the family had been living.

According to Tucson police, the remains were discovered by a landlord who was cleaning the home as the family was in the process of moving out.

It’s believed Roman died sometime between the spring of 2013 and January 2014 and, the Mirror reported, according to an autopsy report, he died from starvation and neglect.

The couple has four other children.

MOTHER SAYS DAUGHTER WAS BITTEN MORE THAN 25 TIMES AT ARIZONA DAYCARE

In 2014, Authorities said that their three youngest children, who were minors, were turned over to Child Protective Services (CPS).

Police said the other children did not appear to have any signs of abuse, but the children reportedly did not attend school regularly.

Tucson Police Chief Roberto Villasenor said the family had previous contact with CPS and the agency had taken the children away before but returned them to the parents.

In fact, The Arizona Department of Child Safety reportedly removed Roman and three of his older siblings from his parents after his birth in July 2010 due to drug exposure.

However, a year later, Roman was back with his father, who has also been charged with first-degree murder and is scheduled for trial in August.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders expressed disbelief on Saturday at the fact that Democrats pushed “socialism” while living under President Trump’s growing economy.

“It’s truly mind-boggling. I don’t know why anyone would vote for a system that they are literally watching crumble before their very eyes,” Sanders said while appearing Saturday on “Watters’ World.”

Her comment was an apparent reference to the developing political crisis and looming regime change in Venezuela, which has met with sky-high inflation, deteriorating humanitarian conditions and a political uprising.

She told host Jesse Watters that favoring socialism was particularly odd given that this nation’s capitalist system has worked “so well.”

“Under this president, [the] American economy is booming, we’re thriving, and we’re doing better than we’ve done in a long time,” she added.

She made those remarks just after the administration celebrated a positive jobs report which included 263,000 added jobs and the lowest unemployment rate since 1969.

Two Florida teens have had their faith restored that “God saves” after they were rescued from the ocean last month by a yacht called “The Amen,” they said on “Fox and Friends” on Saturday.

High school seniors Tyler Smith and Heather Brown, who are both student-athletes at Christ’s Church Academy, said it never occurred to them that a strong current could sweep them away as they swam offshore from Vilano Beah, near St. Augustine.

FLORIDA TEENS STRANDED IN OCEAN SAVED BY BOAT NAMED ‘AMEN’ AFTER DESPERATE PRAYER FOR HELP

“We’re teenagers. We don’t think about currents or anything like that,” Smith said on Saturday. “We’re like, ‘oh we can do this easy’, so we just start swimming out.”

The pair were stranded in the ocean for two hours nearly two miles from shore and were losing hope as the waves became rougher and the red buoy they were relying on as a point of reference and potential safety mark became out of reach.

Smith’s legs also began to cramp from the swimming, he said.

“You can’t swim anymore because both of your legs are cramped. You’re hopeless.”

That’s when he turned to prayer.

“I started to cry out to god, like, please send something, please send someone or some miracle to come save us because I still want to see my family again,” Smith said.

That’s when it felt like a miracle occurred for the teens as a white yacht, “The Amen” emerged about 200 yards from the desperate pair.

“At some point, it felt like it came out of nowhere. We had seen a couple of boats pass really far away but when I looked up, I saw this big boat. It was a really nice boat. It was already closer than the other ones were from the start and I just had this feeling that I knew we were getting out of there,” Brown said.

She waved a stick that she found at the water and the boat’s Captain, Eric Wagner, was able to spot them. After calling the Coast Guard, his crew was able to pull the two to safety.

“Over all the wind, waves, and engines, we thought we heard a desperate scream,” Wagner told FOX 30 after their rescue. “Exhausted and near the end, the boy told me he called out for God’s help. Then we showed up.”

“God saves,” Smith said recalling the memory on Saturday.

The energy is palpable on Derby Day as horses saddle up to compete in the 145th Churchill Downs Kentucky Derby in Louisville and Fox News host Janice Dean is on the ground experiencing “one of the greatest moments in sports.”

A last-minute change to the lineup scratching Omaha Beach from the races after a respiratory illness poised Game Winner to take home the trophy with 9-2 odds of winning, according to horse analyst and oddsmaker, Mike Battaglia.

Second choice picks include Improbable and Roadster, both with 5-1 odds. All three horses were trained by Bob Baffert who also trained the 2018 Triple Crown Winner, Justify.

“There’s no better athletes than these horses,” Jack Wolf, who founded Starlight Racing with his wife Laurie and has seen several game-winning horses over the finish line, told Dean on Saturday. “When they get out here and compete it’s beautiful.”

Twenty horses will compete in a two-minute race, galloping 1¼ miles to the finish line on Saturday.

“You see these beautiful horses, all the activity, it’s wonderful,” Laurie said.

The Kentucky Derby, which takes place on the first Saturday in May every year, draws a crowd of 155,000 people and is typically referred to as “the longest continually held sporting event in America,” according to the Derby site.

The iconic races are a huge spectator sport, drawing families and friends wearing huge hats together to enjoy mint juleps, the signature drink of Churchill Downs.

In a lengthy interview with a Los Angeles radio station, Charles Feldman mentioned the New York Times report and asked Comey about Trump supporters’ reaction to it.

“Already some Trump supporters are saying, ‘Aha! You see? We are right! The president is right!” Feldman said to Comey. “The FBI and the … so-called deep state, they were spying on an American presidential campaign — and this story is proof of that.’”

JAMES COMEY PENS SCATHING ANTI-TRUMP OP-ED: ‘HE EATS YOUR SOUL IN SMALL BITES’

Comey hesitated at first to respond to the KNX 1070 AM host before justifying the FBI’s actions.

“Really? What would you have the FBI do? We discover in the middle of June of 2016 that the Russians were engaged in a massive effort to mess with this democracy to interfere in the election. We’re focused on that and at the end of July we learn that a Trump campaign adviser — two months earlier, before any of this was public — had talked to a Russian representative about the fact that the Russians had dirt on Hillary Clinton and wanted to arrange to share it with the Trump campaign,” Comey said.

“What should the FBI do when it gets that information? It should investigate to figure out whether any Americans are hooked up with this massive interference effort. And that’s what we did.”

According to the Times report, an informant working for U.S. intelligence posed as a Cambridge University research assistant in September 2016 to try to probe George Papadopoulos, then a Trump foreign policy adviser, on the campaign’s possible ties to Russia.

Papadopoulos told Fox News on Thursday that the informant tried to “seduce” him as part of the “bizarre” episode.

The Times report cited individuals familiar with the Justice Department’s ongoing Inspector General (IG) review of the intelligence community’s actions in the run-up to Donald Trump’s election as president.

Attorney General William Barr received harsh partisan blowback for suggesting that “spying did occur” during the presidential race, but doubled down during a Senate hearing on Wednesday.

Comey said the FBI was just doing its job.

“What should the FBI do when it gets that information? It should investigate to figure out whether any Americans are hooked up with this massive interference effort. And that’s what we did.” Comey said.

The fired director told Republicans who were outraged by the report to “breathe into a paper bag,” saying the FBI used “limited tools” to find the truth.

“There’s no way you would do other than what we did, which is use limited tools to try to understand, ‘Is this true?’ And that’s what the investigation was about,” Comey said.

“A foreign adversary intervened in America to damage our democracy. … So, they will be back again, they will work to re-elect Donald Trump.”

Comey argued that Republicans would be outraged if the FBI did not react if a similar situation had emerged involving former President Barack Obama and Iran during the 2012 election.

The former FBI head also warned that the Russians would again work to re-elect President Trump, saying their initial actions were “an act of war” and criticized the president for “refusing to accept that.”

“A foreign adversary intervened in America to damage our democracy to hurt one of our two candidates for president and to help the other. That’s an act of war. And they not only did it, they exceeded their wildest expectations because look at where we are as a country now, how we are at each other’s throats. So, they will be back again, they will work to re-elect Donald Trump,” Comey said.

Bill Maher says Trump and supporters are about ‘owning the libs’: ‘I feel owned now’

“Real Time” host Bill Maher said on Friday’s show that he felt “owned” by President Trump and his supporters, adding that in his view their main mission is to “own the libs.”

Kicking off the show’s panel-discussion segment, Maher began by recalling the “euphoria” that Democrats felt after they retook the House in the 2018 midterms because it meant they would gain “subpoena power” in the new Congress.

“Apparently not,” Maher said, noting that Attorney General William Barr was a no-show at Thursday’s scheduled House Judiciary Committee hearing.

“It’s all about ‘owning the libs,'” Maher explained. “You know, that’s what they are out for, ‘owning the libs.’ And I’ll tell you something: I feel owned now. You have succeeded. This week, when [Barr] said, ‘You know what, I’m subpoenaed before Congress? F— you, I’m not showing up.’ You’re right. And we can’t do anything about it. I am owned.”

The HBO star then asked the panel if there were now 21 Democrats vying for the party’s 2020 presidential nomination — but a guest quickly told him the number may be 22 because New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio will reportedly announce his candidacy next week.

“Oh, for f— sake,” Maher reacted. “It’s not even a horse race. It’s the running of the bulls at this point.”

Maher mocked Sen. Michael Bennet, D-Colo., who entered the race this week, asking, “What’s his slogan, ‘Google me’?”

“My point is, all you 22 people who are running, you’re asking what can you do to get my vote? Make me not feel owned,” Maher continued. “Who’s going to make me feel, ‘Oh, I’m not going to feel owned in two years.'”

Maher blasts Hillary Clinton for ‘stealing’ his act with ‘China, if you’re listening’

“Real Time” host Bill Maher went after former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Friday night for “stealing” his act.

On Wednesday, Clinton appeared on “The Rachel Maddow Show” and blasted Special Counsel Robert Mueller‘s conclusion that there was “no conspiracy” between the Trump campaign and Russia during the 2016 election. Clinton then offered Maddow a scenario in which Democrats might welcome China’s assistance in the 2020 election.

BILL MAHER SAYS TRUMP AND SUPPORTERS ARE ABOUT ‘OWNING THE LIBS’: ‘I FEEL OWNED NOW’

“Imagine, Rachel, that you had one of the Democratic nominees for 2020 on your show and that person said, ‘You know, the only other adversary of ours who’s anywhere near as good as the Russians is China. So why should Russia have all the fun? And since Russia is clearly backing Republicans, why don’t we ask China to back us?… And not only that, China, if you’re listening, why don’t you get Trump’s tax returns. I’m sure our media would richly reward you,” Clinton theorized.

But for Maher, the Clinton gag sounded a little too familiar.

“Hillary Clinton is stealing my act!” Maher shouted to his audience during Friday’s monologue.

The HBO star then played a clip from his show back in August where he said, “Since we now accept that it’s OK to merge your party with a foreign power, I’d like to be the first member of the Resistance to say, ‘China, if you’re listening, I hope you can find Donald Trump’s tax returns.'”

“What is this, ‘Real Time with Crooked Hillary’?” Maher asked. “Hillary, if you wanted material, you should have asked me before the election!”
