After a bombshell revelation on Thursday that the FBI sent an undercover investigator to meet with ex-Trump aide George Papadopoulos in 2016, former Republican Congressman Jason Chaffetz said the news reveals a push to expose how the probe into President Trump‘s alleged affiliations with Russia really began.

The New York Times broke the story that the FBI sent a woman to meet with Papadopoulos at a bar in London in 2016, which has fueled the president’s argument that special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into him was politically motivated. The woman, who identified herself as Azra Turk, reportedly asked Papadopoulos point-blank if Trump was collaborating with Russians to swing the 2016 election.

Chaffetz, during an appearance on “Fox & Friends” on Friday, said the Times was offering up the story as an attempt to “soften the blow” before Inspector General Horowitz releases his report investigations of allegations of misconduct by the FBI and former director James Comey.

Chaffetz also questioned why, if the FBI suspected Russians were attempting to hack Trump’s campaign, they didn’t offer their assistance in protecting Trump.

“They were actually out there spying on him. And planting stories and leaking stories. The president has been right on this one. It’s one of the worst scandals we have ever seen and it’s tied to Hillary Clinton and the Democrats,” Chaffetz said.

Chaffetz added that he believes the “attacks” on Attorney General Barr in recent weeks have been an attempt to discredit him, as he has made it clear that he plans to pursue the FBI’s investigation “with vigor.”

“I think the Democrats are trying again to discredit the attorney general knowing that he is going after the origins of how this whole thing got going. Because, it is in nefarious at best,” Chaffetz said.

Vice President Mike Pence took aim at Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., Friday over her recent comments on the unrest in Venezuela.

During an interview with “America’s Newsroom,” the vice president responded to recent remarks from the freshman lawmaker when she stated Trump administration is partly responsible for the political and civil unrest unfolding in Venezuela because of its “bullying” tactics and sanctions.

“The congresswoman doesn’t know what she’s talking about,” Pence said. “Nicolas Maduro is a socialist dictator who has taken what was one of the most prosperous nations in this hemisphere and brought it literally to a level of deprivation and oppression and poverty that we have never seen. Nine out of 10 people in Venezuela live in poverty. Three million people have fled Venezuela. That’s not a result of U.S. policies. That’s the result of dictatorship and socialism that has been imposed on people of Venezuela by Nicolas Maduro.”

Earlier in the week, Omar told PBS’ “Democracy Now!” that “a lot of the policies that we have put in place has kind of helped lead the devastation in Venezuela and we have sort of set the stage for where we are arriving today.”

“This particular bullying and the use of sanctions to eventually intervene and make regime change really does not help the people of countries like Venezuela and it certainly does not help and is not in the interest of the United States,” she added.

The vice president also touted a strong employment report, and backed Attorney General William Barr’s decision not to testify in front of a House hearing over the controversial Mueller report, during the wide-ranging interview.

About an hour before the interview, a report released by the Labor Department showed U.S. job growth surged in April 263,000 jobs while the unemployment rate dropped to a more than 49-year low of 3.6 percent.

“It’s really remarkable,” Pence told Sandra Smith. “What people are witnessing is that the agenda President Trump ran on, and that we have been delivering on over the last two years, is working for every American.”

The latest data reveals the economy is showing robust growth and provides a much-needed talking point for Republicans and the White House as the 2020 presidential election nears.

During his sit-down at the White House, Pence said he “fully supports”Attorney General William Barr’s decision to skip a House hearing on special counsel Robert Muller’s Trump-Russia report.

The move by Barr accelerated an already bitter battle between Democrats, the White House, and the Justice Department. Democrats have threatened to hold Barr in contempt for missing the deadline to provide the House Judiciary Committee with an unredacted version of the Mueller report and its underlying evidence.

“I served on the Judiciary Committee for 11 years,” Pence said. “I can recall no occasion where lawyers for the majority and the minority questioned a member of a president’s cabinet under either party.”

Barr’s hours-long appearance before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday accelerated calls for his resignation after he said the president had been falsely accused of colluding with Russia. Barr’s also been accused to spinning key findings in the Mueller report in the president’s favor.

While the Mueller report did not find any criminal conspiracy between the Trump campaign and Russia, it did not clear the president or his campaign of obstruction of justice. The report also noted that some Trump campaign officials had declined to testify, making it almost impossible to get a complete picture of what happened during the 2016 presidential campaign.

MIKE PENCE TO VISIT HEADS OF BURNED BLACK LOUISIANA CHURCHES

Pence largely echoed President Trump’s comments to Fox News’ Catherine Herridge on Thursday, that he doesn’t want former White House counsel Don McGahn to testify before Congress.

“Don McGahn was made available to the special counsel and by most reports provided him with 30 hours of testimony, all of which contributed to the report that concluded there was no collusion and no obstruction,” Pence said. “Congress has that report available. They have the information available. There’s certain redactions that are required under the law for grand juries but a limited number of members of Congress have access even beyond that, so the information is there for them to look at.”

The Tennessee Democrat who ate Kentucky Fried Chicken as a jab at Attorney General Bill Barr for skipping a Congressional hearing has been blasted by “Fox Nation” personalities Diamond and Silk as “racially insensitive.”

Rep. Steve Cohen grabbed headlines Thursday after appearing on Capitol Hill with a bucket of fried chicken and a ceramic chicken statue on Thursday to mock Barr for being “too chicken” after the attorney general did not appear for his scheduled hearing before the House Judiciary Committee.

But Diamond and Silk told “Fox and Friends” on Friday morning the joke may have been “racially insensitive” and asked to imagine a scenario in which a Republican would be doing that.

“I want you all to understand the reason why the attorney general is experiencing all of this slander is because the Democrats are afraid,” Diamond said.

“They are getting caught up in the shenanigans who orchestrated and masterminded this Russia witch-hunt hoax. And once that comes out, I mean, it’s going to blow up in their faces. So what they are going to try to do, they are going to try to smear him. They smear him because they fear him.”

Attorney General William Barr dug his heels in at Wednesday’s House Judiciary Committee hearing asserting his belief that the government was spying on Trump’s 2016 campaign and Fox News’ correspondent-at-large, Geraldo Rivera agrees after a new report appears to substantiate these claims.

“The extent of the counterintelligence investigation into the Trump campaign and the Trump presidency is extraordinary,” Rivera said.

An FBI investigator posing as a research assistant traveled to London in September 2016 and met with George Papadopoulos, a former Trump foreign policy adviser to gather information about the Trump campaign’s potential ties to Russia during the 2016 elections, according to a report by the New York Times reported Thursday.

US INFORMANT REPORTEDLY TRIED TO PROBE PAPADOPOULOS ON TRUMP-RUSSIA TIES, ‘SEDUCE HIM’ DURING CAMPAIGN

The Justice Department’s inspector general, Michael E. Horowitz, has been investigating the FBI’s tactics and their use of informants including the research assistant, Azra Turk, and Cambridge professor Stefan A. Halper. The FBI has maintained that they sent Turk to London to oversee and help corroborate information that may be gathered by Halper in the investigation and it is unclear if the DOJ will find any wrongdoing by the agency.

Turk met with Papadopolous at least three times “to see if I had any information that she could potentially extract from me about Trump and Russia, which of course is nonsense,” he told Fox News host Tucker Carlson on Thursday.

“How deeply did they penetrate? How aggressively were they spying? How many different agents, how many different informants?” Rivera mused Friday, echoing the sentiments of Barr, who also posed similar questions at Wednesday’s hearings in front of Congress.

“Were they trying to entrap the president of the United States to commit obstruction, to attempt obstruction?” Rivera said.

“They owe the president an apology,” Rivera said asserting that Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller knew “a year ago” that there was no collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia to influence the 2016 elections.

Democrats assert that Mueller’s findings of the investigation have not exonerated Trump of obstruction charges but the special counsel could not charge the president because the Justice Department rules prevent him from bringing charges against a sitting president.

A former assistant secretary of state for President George W. Bush slammed Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden for dismissing the threat of China, saying the former vice president has been on the wrong side of foreign policy issues for the last four decades.

“On a personal level is he a friendly guy, but he has empirically had poor judgment particularly on foreign policy.. the examples are numerous,” Robert Charles said Friday on “Fox and Friends.”

“Interestingly, Robert Gates in his book who criticizes almost nobody … noted that ‘Joe Biden has been wrong on almost every foreign policy and national security issue for the last four decades.’”

AS BIDEN DOWNPLAYS CHINA THREAT, ROMNEY HAS A NEW WARNING

Biden drew bipartisan fury after expressing lack of concern over as a global competitor to the U.S. and mocked those taking the Chinese threat at a rally on Wednesday.

“China is going to eat our lunch? Come on, man!” Biden exclaimed. “The fact that they have this great division between the China Sea and the mountains in the East — I mean in the West. They can’t figure out how they’re going to deal with the corruption that exists within the system. They’re not bad folks, folks. But guess what, they’re not competition for us.”

Reacting to those remarks, Trump said Biden was among many politicians “naïve” over China. “For somebody to be so naive, and say China’s not a problem – if Biden actually said that, that’s a very dumb statement.”

Charles went on to list Biden’s foreign policy failures, ranging from opposition to military programs that brought down the Soviet Union to opposing the Usama Bin Laden raid.

“If you go back in time this is a guy who wanted to divide up Iraq. He opposed the Bin Laden raid. In favor of the phony Iran deal and sending cash to them,” the former assistant secretary of state said.

He went on to say that China, contrary to Biden, is “truly our number one potential adversary and our number one competitor in the world” and thinking otherwise is “beyond naïve.”

Trump-Russia conspiracy created by top Obama-era officials to ‘justify’ investigation of Team Trump: Andrew McCarthy

The coming weeks will expose the true genesis of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation — and just how it is tied to some of the highest Obama-era officials, according to former federal prosecutor Andrew McCarthy.

McCarthy made the ominous prediction on Fox News host Bill Hemmer’s “Hemmer Time” podcast and said he expects the answer to what really spurred the investigation to be revealed when the Department of Justice’s Inspector General releases his much-anticipated report.

“We’re going to start getting the answers in the next four to six weeks when we can expect that Inspector General [Michael] Horowitz’s reports are going to start flowing out,” McCarthy told Hemmer.

“There are some factors involved that we don’t have enough information on. We know that Attorney General Barr has said that he personally is looking into this and that he has a team of people in the Justice Department that are helping him.”

The former assistant U.S. attorney, who prosecuted blind sheik Omar Abdel-Rahman for masterminding the 1993 terror attack on the World Trade Center, continued: “The inspector general is a very thorough meticulous guy who served one with him in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in New York he’s terrific lawyer good investigator.”

After pointing out some of the limitations the Inspector General faces, McCarthy called for a dramatic next step.

“This has to be looked at by prosecutors who have the full array of prosecutorial authority including Grand Jury power,” he said.

WHY DID MUELLER WAIT TO ANSWER COLLUSION QUESTION, BUSH AG MICHAEL MUKASEY ASKS

Hemmer then asked McCarthy if he believes Barr has been under such intense fire from some corners in an attempt to “dent his credibility”.

McCarthy agreed, saying: “This is what these guys are good at. To explain what I mean by that — when Trump won, nobody expected Trump to win.

“I think a large part of the reason they did a lot of the things they did, everybody knew Hillary was going to win. And in addition to that, they did everything by counterintelligence so it was all under the code of classification. So they figured this was never going to get out.

“When Trump won, what that meant was in 10 weeks he was going to be president and he was going to have access to all of the intelligence files of the executive branch all of the top secret information in government.

TRUMP TELLS DEMS ‘IT’S OVER,’ SAYS McGAHN WON’T TESTIFY, HITS BIDEN’S ‘VERY DUMB STATEMENT’ IN FOX NEWS INTERVIEW

“So, if you’re sitting there and you’re the Obama administration you have a choice, right? You can say well you know Trump’s a kind of a calm guy, right? We don’t need to worry too much about him, we’ll be able to explain to him that there was a good reason to do the investigation and I’m sure it’ll all blow over.

“Or, down here on planet Earth, you could say, ‘Trump is going to go crazy when he finds out about this so it’s inevitably going to come out anyway.’

“We have ten weeks while we’re still in charge of the government and I think they spent those 10 weeks projecting that there was a profound threat of a Trump-Russia conspiracy that made for a worthy investigation.

McCarthy continued: “In other words they they tried to, between leaks and information that got put out, and the way that they structured this investigation including continuing the Carter Page FISA surveillance, and giving Trump only partial information about what they were actually doing, but especially the leaking the classified leaking, they created an impression that there was a big Trump-Russia thing to be worried about.

“And the reason they did that was that they knew that this was eventually going to come out and they needed to justify why they used the government’s extraordinary counterintelligence powers to investigate the opposition presidential campaign.”

Hemmer asked McCarthy if he was suggesting those in the highest levels were trying to “cover their tracks,” to which the former U.S. attorney replied: “They were trying to justify their tracks.”

McCarthy also agreed with Michael Mukasey, a former federal judge and President George W. Bush’s attorney general, who criticized Mueller for not telling the public earlier there was no collusion between Trump and Russia.

“When did Bob Mueller know, or when did the people who worked with him know, that there was no coordination, which is what they were looking for?” the ex-AG told Hemmer last month.

“When did they realize that and whenever they realized that shouldn’t they have told the rest of us?”

McCarthy agreed, saying he believes Mueller must have known there was no collusion “sometime between September and the end of 2017.”

“If you read Mueller’s indictments that he filed especially the ones against the two groups of Russians they preclude the possibility that there was collusion between the Russians and anyone on the American side, not just Trump,” he said.

Eric Trump appeared on “Hannity” Thursday and called Democrats attacking his father “deranged” and dismissed the 2020 Democratic presidential field as “weak.”

“They don’t have any leaders out there. These candidates all look very weak to me, I welcome running against, quite frankly, any of them and helping my father in every way we can,” Trump told Sean Hannity.

Trump said the Democrats “won’t let it go” with their continuous allegations against President Trump and their call for more inquiries into the Russia investigation, and that will lead his father to win in 2020.

“They are failing, Sean. They don’t have a message, they don’t have proper leadership, and I am telling you, he’s going to win this thing again.  He’s going to win this thing in 2020 because they are incredibly deranged,” Trump said

The Trump Organization executive vice-president also lashed out at Congress saying they were not doing their jobs and that the American people are “sick and tired” of it.

“This is what you get out of these people. They don’t want to work for the American people, they don’t want to do their jobs in congress. I say this as a civilian, people are sick and tired of this nonsense,” Trump said.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., vowed a “reckoning” Thursday after Attorney General Bill Barr boycotted a scheduled hearing, likening President Trump to a dictator and threatening the Justice Department leader with contempt.

Instead of Barr testifying on his handling of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report Thursday the session became bizarre, one Democrat placed a prop chicken near an empty seat meant for Barr, Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., ate a bucket of fried chicken while Democrats voiced their displeasure with Barr and the president.

“They want their legislators to actually work and do their jobs. That is why you see the approval rating of Congress is terrible. These people are incompetent,” Trump said.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo didn’t hold back Thursday when reacting to Minnesota congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s comments insinuating the U.S. was partly to blame for the political crisis in Venezuela, calling her comments “ignorant” and “disgusting.”

“So, the nicest thing I can say is it is unbelievable ignorance. It’s just factually wrong,” Pompeo said on the “Ingraham Angle.”

REP. GABBARD ON VENEZUELA: U.S. SHOULD BROKER SOLUTION WITH RUSSIA

The freshman Democratic congresswoman has been critical of the U.S.’s role in Venezuela.

“A lot of the policies that we have put in place has kind of helped lead the devastation in Venezuela and we have sort of set the stage for where we are arriving today,” Omar told “Democracy Now!” “This particular bullying and the use of sanctions to eventually intervene and make regime change really does not help the people of countries like Venezuela and it certainly does not help and is not in the interest of the United States.”

Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaidó’s called for public employees to stage strikes to put pressure on embattled President Nicolas Maduro but streets remained calm after two days of clashing.

Pompeo blamed Venezuela’s current problems on socialism.

“The problems in Venezuela have been years in the making.  It’s been a socialist regime, first with Chavez now with Maduro. The destruction of a wealthy nation. A nation with more oil reserves than any other country in the world,” Pompeo said.

The Secretary of State emphasized his displeasure with Omar’s comments and brought up that she sits on the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

“For a member of congress, who frankly, one who sits on an important national committee, making a statement blaming America first in this way, it’s not only ignorant, it’s disgusting,” Pompeo said.

Fox News’ Greg Norman contributed to this report.

Conservative commentator Mark Steyn responded Thursday to Hillary Clinton’s latest television appearance calling the former Democratic presidential nominee “a disgrace,” and blaming her for the Russia investigation because “she didn’t know how to lose.”

“Look, it isn’t funny anymore. Basically, this is the woman who is more responsible than anyone for the totally pointless and discreditable Russian investigation that destroyed your first guest’s life, [George] Papadopoulos,” Steyn said on “Tucker Carlson Tonight.”

Papadopoulos, a former foreign policy adviser to President Trump, appeared on the program earlier Thursday and said an informant working for U.S. intelligence posed as a Cambridge University research assistant in September 2016 to try and “seduce” him while probing him on the campaign’s possible ties to Russia, according to a new report.

The former adviser served 12 days in prison for lying to investigators.

Clinton appeared on MSNBC’s “Rachel Maddow Show” Wednesday where she ripped Attorney General William Barr and vented her frustration with Special Counsel Mueller’s Russia investigation.

Steyn chastised Clinton for being unable to lose and criticized Democratic strategist Richard Goodstein, who also appeared earlier in the show, for brushing off Papadopoulos’ situation.

“We now know Donald Trump invited the Russians to help and they did and it benefited him. I am troubled that no one in the administration is as upset about that as they are about Carter Page and George Papadopoulos,” Goldstein argued earlier.

“It was her refusal to lose gracefully that in fact enabled this last disgusting two years in which the losing party’s man on the inside have conducted an investigation into the duly elected president. It is quite disgraceful. She is quite disgraceful. To listen to your friend, Richard Goodstein — I like Richard, but for him, laughing at what happened, George Papadopoulos landed in Washington, and the FBI put him in shackles — shackles — for doing nothing, and that is all on Hillary, because she didn’t know how to lose. Because Clinton’s shouldn’t lose,” Steyn said.

Stephen Moore, who recently withdrew himself from consideration as President Trump’s pick for the Federal Reserve Board, said on Thursday he was doomed as a candidate from the beginning because of his conservative leaning views on the economy.

Moore, appearing on Fox News’ Tucker Carlson Tonight, said that he was the subject of personal attacks by left because of his views on economic policy, which he said was never the subject of debate during his consideration.

“The left understood from the first couple of days, because they did surveys of the senators and the Republicans senators loved my economic views and so on, and that’s when they launched this character assassination,” he said speaking to host Tucker Carlson.

TRUMP’S PICK FOR FED BOARD SAYS HE REGRETS JOKE ABOUT OBAMAS: ‘I SHOULDN’T HAVE SAID IT

“The most amazing thing, The Washington Post, The New York Times, CNN, they got my divorce settlement from 10 years ago unsealed so that they could just put all of this dirt on me that had nothing to do with my qualifications to be on the fed.”

Moore came under intense scrutiny last week for his past writings that appeared to disparage women and offensive remarks about the Obamas but on Thursday he seemed to accept responsibility for what he called “stupidity.”

“I’m not playing the victim here because the truth is I have said a lot. I have a two mile long paper trail, I’ve given 500 speeches and written a lot of article and i’ve said things are impolitic.”

“Some of things I’ve said are stupid, I wish there were a statute of limitations on stupidity because some of these things were 20 – 25 years old.”

Moore also took aim at his former employer CNN for their coverage.

“Well this is a little awkward for CNN because every night they trash me now when for the last two and a half years I’ve been their senior economics writer and the things they’re talking about now are things that happened 20 years ago. What a minute, if I’m such a scoundral and sextist, why did they have me on every night?”

Moore said he was excited about the prospect of working with Trump but now feels “bummed out.”

“I hate quitting. I’m not a quitter, so I’m sad about that.
