Newt Gingrich tells how Trump could win in ‘1972-style’ landslide

Newt Gingrich, onetime House speaker said President Trump could easily win re-election in 2020 if Democrats continue to back far-left candidates who isolate themselves on issues from the majority of voters.

Speaking with Fox News’ Todd Starnes on Wednesday, Gingrich recalled the 1972 election, in which the Democratic nominee, Sen. George McGovern of South Dakota, suffered an overwhelming loss to President Richard Nixon, who captured 60 percent of the popular vote.

“I think the way this election is going to shape up, I believe, you could see a 1972-style landslide because you know, if you remember, McGovern and then [Walter] Mondale in ‘84, both isolated themselves and the American people,” Gingrich said. “Well, if you look day after day at what the Democrats are talking about, they’re at 15 percent issues. I mean there are issues where only 15 percent of the country agrees with them and they keep doing that.”

Nixon’s presidency, similar to Trump’s, saw a booming economy, while McGovern was quickly labeled the anti-establishment candidate with views too extreme for the majority of Americans.

Said Gingrich: “Trump is a tough guy. All right. And some of his characteristics aren’t exactly what you’d hoped for at the country club, but he gets a lot done. He’s a serious man. The economy’s better than anybody thought it could be.  And on the other hand, you have a party — the Democrats — who are losing their minds and doing more and more weird things.”

Gingrich’s predictions would mean that one of the leading Democratic candidates for president, Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., wouldn’t stand a chance against Trump as the incumbent.

The former speaker of the House said that one candidate who could help Dems get away from a “McGovern” candidate is Pete Buttigieg, the mayor of South Bend, Ind.

“I think Buttigieg, in some ways, is the most interesting candidate because he literally can be almost anything. So he’s kind of the chameleon candidate.”

Managing Director at The Ackman-Ziff Real Estate Group Jason Meister said Wednesday big city developers struggle to sell real estate, especially in New York, because “blue states need to shape up. They’re fiscally irresponsible.”

Meister, who is also a member of the 2020 Trump advisory board, made the statement on “Fox & Friends” Wednesday, adding, “Investors are not going to be here (New York City). It’s just not going to happen.”

According to Miller Samuel Inc., a real estate appraisal and consulting firm, more than 40 percent of apartments on New York City’s “Billionaires’ Row,”  the area around West 57th Street and Central Park South, are sitting unsold.

The data was released a day after a Manhattan judge on Monday gave city officials the green light to open a controversial homeless shelter in The Park Savoy building, at 158 W. 58th St., which is in the ritzy neighborhood.

JUDGE SIGNS OFF ON HOMELESS SHELTER ON ‘BILLIONAIRES’ ROW’ IN NEW YORK CITY

The building stands back-to-back against the iconic One57 apartment building, the city’s first “supertall” residential skyscraper and home to a $100 million condo that was the city’s most expensive when Dell founder Michael Dell bought it in 2014.

Last year, neighbors were blindsided when New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio quietly sent letters to local officials that revealed his plan to turn it into a shelter for 150 homeless men, sparking the suit against the city.

“The best antidote to homelessness are jobs and unfortunately, the economic and policy environment right now in New York City run by incompetent leadership like Mayor de Blasio and Governor Cuomo, they’re basically forcing high-net-worth individuals out that create the jobs,” said Meister.

“They’re also chasing out companies like Amazon, right? That could have created tens of thousands of jobs to minorities, to everyone.”

Amazon announced in February it was turning back on its plans to build its second headquarters in New York City. The move came after backlash from lawmakers, notably Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who bemoaned the project.

The deal was greeted with much fanfare when it was announced last year and was lauded as a major economic boost.

Amazon’s HQ2 plan to build in Long Island City in Queens included a pledge from the tech giant to create 25,000 jobs, paying an average of $150,000 per year in exchange for a slew of city and state tax breaks and subsidies worth up to $3 billion.

Meister said New York City offers an environment that “makes for an unsafe investment.”

He added, “New York always was a safe investment and what’s happening is, it’s becoming an unsafe investment. Capital is very smart. It leaves when things are not safe.”

Meister then said New York City “needs to really shape up.”

NEARLY ALL HOMES IN SAN FRANCISCO COST OVER $1M

The struggle to sell real estate is also being reported in San Francisco, Ca. and Washington, D.C. When asked what all three cities have in common, Meister answered, “The cities, they’re run by Democrats.”

“And what happened in the 2017 tax cut and reform bill was basically we put all the states on a level playing field. And they have to, they have to basically compete for the high earners and the job creators. And what happened is, you have a mass exodus from blue states to red states. States that are more favorable for taxes and for job creation.”

“And so what’s happening is these high earners, these high-net-worth individuals, these job creators are leaving the city because there’s places where they can go where there is better taxes, it’s more favorable to them,” Meister added.

“New York State is going to lose $2.8 billion of tax revenue. We’re going to lose 800,000 residents who pay taxes. This state has a serious problem. So does California.”

Meister said when someone is looking to buy real estate they consider “the overall business climate, the environment, the taxes, it’s an economic decision, not just an emotional decision, it’s economic and the economics in New York City right now don’t work.”

Thailand’s King Maha Vajiralongkorn, 66, has married his consort, General Suthida Vajiralongkorn Na Ayudhya, a former flight attendant who had been a commander of his bodyguard unit, just three days before his official coronation Saturday.

The surprise announcement in the Royal Gazette on Wednesday said she is legally married to the king and is now known as Queen Suthida.

Video from Wednesday’s wedding ceremony was later broadcast on the nightly Royal News segment which aired on all Thai television channels, according to Reuters.

According to Reuters, there has been some speculation by foreign media that the two were romantically linked, but the palace had previously never acknowledged a relationship between them.

Vajiralongkorn, also known by the title King Rama X, became king in 2016 after the death of his father, King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

He is expected to be officially crowned on Saturday in elaborate Buddhist and Brahmin ceremonies, followed by a procession through Bangkok the next day.

Amid Attorney General William Barr’s hearing on Capitol Hill about the Mueller report, Independent Women’s Voice President Tammy Bruce argued that the “drama” surrounding the report is “all ado about nothing” now that the report has been made public.

It was revealed Tuesday evening that special counsel Robert Mueller wrote a letter to Barr arguing that his interpretation of Mueller’s investigation “did not fully capture the context, nature, and substance of this office’s work and conclusions,” which Barr was questioned about during his Senate Judiciary Committee hearing Wednesday.

Bruce said that the proceedings that followed Barr’s summary of the report  illustrated that Mueller was a “diva” who didn’t like the attorney general putting his conclusions in the public eye.

“This is very strange, the timing of it all,” she said during an appearance on “Fox & Friends” Wednesday morning. “It seems to me like a diva who didn’t like the fact, this being Mueller, didn’t like the fact Barr is now effectively interpreting, initially interpreted the report and now the American people can decide for themselves. Maybe there is just not enough drama for some of these individuals,” she added.

Bruce asserted that the redacted version of Mueller’s full investigation allows the American people to make a decision for themselves about the president’s actions.

“The good news is that the American people can decide for themselves. They seem to already have done so. And the president was exonerated. That is the bottom line of this report. And that message seems to be resonating,” she said.

Barr was set to answer questions from the House Judiciary Committee on Thursday, though it’s possible that the hearing may be canceled or postponed because of an ongoing discussion about whether committee members will question Barr themselves, or if the questions will be posed by their attorneys.

“I think a lot of politicians don’t want to be ones in front of a camera asking those questions, because they might think the American people don’t like this dragging on, and they don’t,” Bruce said regarding the dispute.

“But, again, this is all ado about nothing,” she continued. “The report is out in its entirety. We can decide. People we trust have been interpreting it. This seems to be a big nothing in a certain sense.”

Sen. Lindsey Graham made sure Attorney General William Barr’s appearance before the Senate Judiciary Committee got off to an explosive start.

Graham, R-S.C., spent a large chunk of his opening remarks discussing text messages between anti-Trump former FBI officials Peter Strzok and Lisa Page — before dropping an F-bomb while quoting one of their exchanges.

“October 19, 2016,” Graham said, referring to when the message was sent, “Trump is a f—ing idiot.”

Graham’s colorful reading went out live as part of the broadcast, prompting the South Carolina Republican to offer up an apology.

“Sorry to the kids out there,” he said, before continuing with the rest of his remarks.

He also read other texts between the two, some of which described Trump as “loathsome,” “an idiot” and “awful.”

It came as AG Barr defended his handling of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia report on Wednesday amid new revelations that Mueller expressed frustration to Barr about how the attorney general was portraying the investigation’s findings.

Barr’s first appearance on Capitol Hill since releasing a redacted version of the report presented a dramatic showdown as Democrats confronted him with allegations that he spun the investigation’s findings in President Trump’s favor. Democrats were also likely to accuse him of misleading lawmakers last month when he suggested he was unaware of concerns on the Mueller team about his actions.

MSNBC’S CHRIS MATTHEWS SLAMS BARR’S ‘SKULLDUGGERY,’ CLAIMS HE LIED ABOUT MUELLER REPORT’S FINDINGS

Barr noted in his testimony Wednesday that Mueller concluded his investigation without any interference and that neither the attorney general nor any other Justice Department official overruled the special counsel on any action he wanted to take. Barr also defended his decision to step in and clear the president of obstruction of justice after Mueller presented evidence on both sides but didn’t reach a conclusion.

“The Deputy Attorney General and I knew that we had to make this assessment because, as I previously explained, the prosecutorial judgment whether a crime has been established is an integral part of the Department’s criminal process,” Barr said in his testimony.

Attorney General Bill Barr is going to “get roasted today by the Democrats” during his Senate Judiciary Committee hearing over the Mueller report, but he’s a “tough guy” who is going to “give as good as he gets.”

That’s according to “Fox News Sunday” anchor Chris Wallace, who made the comments Wednesday on “America’s Newsroom” just minutes before Barr is scheduled to deliver testimony regarding how he handled the release of the Special Counsel’s investigative report on Russia.

Democrats have been accusing the attorney general – who wrote and released a summary of the report – of misrepresenting its contents.

“Barr is a tough guy, he’s been an attorney general – this is his second term at it. He is very competent, very smart, very tough so I’m sure he is going to give as good as he gets from the Democrats,” Wallace said. “But they are going to be angry at him for the way they feel he has misled the country on the elements, the essential context of the Mueller report.”

BARR FACES GRILLING IN FIRST SENATE HEARING SINCE MUELLER REPORT’S RELEASE

“I think Bill Barr is going to get roasted today by the Democrats and the Republicans are going to have to do some rehabilitation to try to restore him,” he added.

Fox News’ Bret Baier agreed with Wallace that Barr should be getting ready for a tough hearing.

Former independent counsel Ken Starr, who also participated in the segment, says he thinks at “the end of the day there’s really going to be a sense of ‘he’s an honest guy, he is giving it the best they can, these are judgment calls and so forth’.”

“This is a 440-plus page report. As you paw through the report, it is so detailed – there is nuance there right? So it’s not surprising that the author of the report will say ‘you didn’t get it exactly right’,” he added. “But the key is, did you get something wrong? Were you misleading? Were you inaccurate?… and there Bill Barr gets a 100 percent grade, so he gets an A-plus.”

The former U.N. delegate from Venezuela, Isaias Medina, said Tuesday on “The Story with Martha MacCallum” opposition leader Juan Guaidó has passed a ‘point of no return and it’s about time,’ while outlining the dangerous situation in his home country.

”First of all, I have to say that our interim constitutional president, Juan Guaidó, he has crossed the rubicon and there is no way back. This is a point of no return and it’s about time,” Medina, who left his post in protest of disputed Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro in 2017.

VENEZUELANS CLASH WITH PRO-MADURO CODE PINK ACTIVISTS OUTSIDE DC EMBASSY

Guaidó urged Venezuelans to take to the streets for new mass protests Wednesday in an effort to oust Maduro.

In a video statement posted on social media Tuesday night, Guaidó also urged the military to join with those clamoring for change in Venezuela.

In a dramatic incident Tuesday during a chaotic day of violent street battles for a crowd that quickly swelled to a few thousand, several armored vehicles plowed into a group of anti-government demonstrators trying to storm the capital’s air base, hitting at least two protesters.

Medina described Maduro’s allies internationally saying that their involvement in Venezuela is to “challenge U.S. values and interests.”

“There was a response from the military and to begin with, we have to look at this from the global perspective, there are many pillars of support for Maduro. Internationally, as you have seen, he’s got a $12 billion arsenal from Russia and military support, and of course, China, with its financial clout. You have a Iran, you have Turkey… and all they want to do is just expand their geopolitical stronghold in the region and to challenge the U.S. values and interests in the hemisphere,” Medina said.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich on Tuesday said the report by the Washington Post that Special Counsel Robert Mueller reached out to Attorney General William Barr and let him know that his summary “did not fully capture the context, nature, and substance” of the Russia investigation was leaked by someone seeking to “maximize the embarrassment” ahead of Wednesday’s hearings.

“The ‘Deep State’ and Washington has played these games for the whole history of the country, this is not something new,” Gingrich said on the “Ingraham Angle.”

BARR THREATENS NOT TO TESTIFY THURSDAY BEFORE HOUSE DEMS; NADLER ISSUES SUBPOENA THREAT

In a late-breaking article, the Post reported that Mueller contacted Barr– in a letter and phone call– to express concerns after Barr released his own public summary of the report in March. Mueller reportedly pushed Barr to release the executive summaries written by his office.

However, according to both the Post and the Justice Department, Mueller made clear that he did not feel Barr’s summary was inaccurate. Instead, Mueller told Barr that media coverage of the letter had “misinterpreted” the results of the probe concerning obstruction of justice.

Barr is expected to appear before the Senate Judiciary Committee Thursday.

The Post’s headline was entitled, “Mueller complained that Barr’s letter did not capture ‘context’ of Trump probe”

Gingrich brushed off the report.

“After all the noise you just shrug your shoulders and say, ‘so what?’ Mueller had every opportunity to come out the day that Barr released his letter. Mueller could have at any point decided to refute it and as I understand the actual key sentences, the distortion is by the news media. The distortion is not by Barr,” Gingrich said.

Gingrich added, “Think about this. The media that Mueller is complaining about are the people who are now using Mueller’s complaint to further distort what is going on. You couldn’t make this up.”

Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart, R-Fla., appeared on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” Tuesday and made a case for backing opposition to disputed Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and suggested that Russia had installed nuclear missiles in the South American nation.

“Imagine if this regime that now is receiving a lot of international pressure survives, is it or is it not potentially a green light, an open door for the Russians and for the Chinese and for others to increase their activity against our national security interest right here in our hemisphere, “Diaz-Balart told Carlson.

VENEZUELANS CLASH WITH PRO-MADURO CODE PINK ACTIVISTS OUTSIDE DC EMBASSY

Tuesday, tensions flared in Caracas between newly elected President Juan Guaido supporters who clashed with pro-Maduro forces.

Russia, China, and Iran reportedly have a presence in South America including Cuba who are alleged to have 20,000 troops and agents in the region according to the U.S. government.

Carlson pressed the congressman on if he thought anti-American forces would invade the U.S.

“No. It’s kind of hard to see what you’re talking about. Are you suggesting they are going to invade?” Carlson asked.

“The United States, the closest we ever came to nuclear war was because the Russians put missiles, right, nuclear missiles in Cuba,” Diaz-Balart said.

“Are you saying the Russians will put nuclear missiles in Venezuela?” Carlson asked.

“What I am suggesting is that they are already there,” Diaz-Balart said. He did not offer any evidence. Russia famously landed a nuclear-capable bomber in the country late last year and recently confirmed that it has military personnel in the country.

Diaz-Balart argued that the growing humanitarian-refugee crisis and its impact on South America was reason enough to get involved.

“The reason Venezuelans are leaving is because of that regime. It is the largest refugee crisis this hemisphere has ever seen,” Diaz-Balart said.

According to the United Nations, 3 million Venezuelans have left their country because of the humanitarian crisis that developed under Maduro.

Carly Fiorina: Accusations against Joe Biden ‘diminish’ the ‘real abuse’

Former presidential candidate Carly Fiorina defended former Vice President Joe Biden on Tuesday, saying accusations he engaged in inappropriate touching diminished “real abuse” unfolding in today’s society.

“Let’s take it outside of politics for just one moment. There is real abuse that goes on. Matt Lauer, other people in this town, Harvey Weinstein, other people in Tinseltown, the gymnastics coach, there is real assault and real abuse. This kind of thing diminishes all of that,” Fiorina, a Republican, said on “The Story with Martha MacCallum.”

Fiorina apparently was referencing Larry Nassar, the former team doctor at both USA Gymnastics and Michigan State University sentenced to decades in prison for molesting girls and young women, including dozens of elite gymnasts. Lauer, the longtime “Today” anchor, was fired by NBC News in 2017 over what the network called “inappropriate sexual behavior,” while Weinstein, a disgraced Hollywood mogul, is set to stand trial for sexual assault later this year.

BIDEN ACCUSER SAYS SHE’D VOTE FOR HIM OVER TRUMP

Biden continues to face scrutiny over inappropriate touching and his treatment of Anita Hill during the 1991 confirmation hearings of Clarence Thomas, then a nominee for the U.S. Supreme Court.

Lucy Flores, a former candidate for lieutenant governor in Nevada, accused Biden, a fellow Democrat, of inappropriate touching and wrote an op-ed published in the New York Times on Monday about her experience since making the accusations.

The former Hewlett-Packard CEO spoke out against “relitigating” the past and said clueless or careless behavior may make Biden “thoughtless” but not a “bad man.”

“I’m sorry, relitigating Anita Hill, that was litigated. Clarence Thomas is a Supreme Court justice. Brett Kavanaugh was litigated and he’s a Supreme Court justice. Putting someone’s shoulders in a work environment — honestly, it happens all the time. Things that may make women uncomfortable doesn’t make a man bad. It maybe makes them thoughtless or clueless or careless but not a bad man,” Fiorina said.

Fiorina said the criticism was an example of the Democrats’ shift toward the far left.

“I do think it says that Joe Biden has to get through a primary in the Democratic Party, and the Democratic Party is moving further and further and further and further to the left,” Fiorina said.

Fox News’ Martha MacCallum and The Associated Press contributed to this report.
