Kellyanne Conway: Trump can’t be impeached by an investigation Democrats started

As thousands gathered on the White House lawn for the annual Easter egg roll on Monday morning, Kellyanne Conway criticized House Democrats latest impeachment push, calling it “a ridiculous proposition.”

News broke on Sunday that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., plans to hold a private conference call with fellow Democrats to discuss the possibility of impeaching President Trump.

The issue was raised again after a redacted version of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report was released last week, which Dems argue provides evidence to the contrary of Attorney General William Barr’s summary that the investigation found no evidence that President Trump obstructed justice.

However, Conway pushed back.

“You can’t impeach a Republican president for something the Democrats started, which is this ridiculous investigation that has cost us $25 million, over 2500 subpoenas,” Conway told “Fox & Friends” host Ainsley Earhardt on Monday morning.

“The special counsel provides a report to the attorney general who, in concert with the deputy attorney general and office of legal counsel, decided there was no obstructive conduct. They could not bring obstruction charges – they made that decision,” she continued.

“I’m sure if director Mueller and his team could have brought those very clear charges they would have.”

She added that many in the media are now trying to “save face” after fiercely believing and predicting Mueller’s investigation would uncover collusion between Trump and Russia, which would have supplemented their arguments in 2016 that Trump “lied and stole the election.”

As the 2020 election approaches, Conway also commented on the wide array of Democrats entering the race and reminded viewers that candidates need to run on real issues.

“Simple math,” she said. “One, 19, 50, anything times zero, simple multiplication … 19 are running, but if your message is zero it’s a big zero.”

Huckabee on Sri Lanka Islamic terror: Nothing could be more cowardly, disgusting

Islamic terrorism is a threat spreading to different parts of the world, Fox News contributor Mike Huckabee said Monday in wake of the Sri Lanka Easter Sunday massacre.

Huckabee, the former Arkansas Governor, told “Fox & Friends” said Sunday’s attack should remind everyone of the challenges faced across the globe in fighting the scourge of terrorism.

SURVIVOR OF SRI LANKA BOMBING FEARS RETURNING TO CHURCH

“It’s global. It’s not just targeted to a handful of countries like the United States…not just targeted to Middle Eastern countries…it’s a global war on terrorism,” Huckabee said.

“These are cowardly people who go after innocents. These aren’t folks who take on a military. These are people who blow up innocent people, in this case, people who are going to church, people who are celebrating the holiest day for Christians around the world, and nothing could be more cowardly, nothing could be more disgusting, and it shows you the character of those who were involved in this kind of terror.”

His comments came after it was reported authorities in Sri Lanka received warnings a domestic radical Muslim group would attack the nation on the Christian holy day.

Despite multiple warnings from international intelligence agencies, however, Sri Lanka’s security officials reportedly failed to heed the alerts and apparently took no action to protect against a potential attack. Authorities were first alerted to the threat April 4.

More than two weeks later, near-simultaneous blasts detonated at three churches and three luxury hotels in and around Colombo, the capital city. Two more explosions occurred hours later outside of Colombo – one at a guesthouse and the other near an overpass.

At least 290 people – including 39 foreigners – were killed and more than 500 people were injured. The government on Monday said the attacks were likely perpetrated by local militant group National Thowfeek Jaamath, a little-known radical Islamist organization.

CNN’S APRIL RYAN CALLS FOR SARAH SANDERS TO BE FIRED

Experts told the New York Times the group promotes an Islamic terrorist ideology.

“These attacks appear to be quite different and look as if they came right out of the ISIS, Al Qaeda, global militant jihadist playbook, as these are attacks fomenting religious hatred by attacking multiple churches on a high religious holiday,” Anne Speckhard, the director of the International Center for the Study of Violent Extremism, told the newspaper.

Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne said international agencies warned of possible attacks several times beginning in early April. He said the defense ministry wrote to the police chief on April 9 to give law enforcement a heads up about the intelligence, including providing the group’s name.

Two days later, on April 11, police wrote to the heads of security of the judiciary and diplomatic security division about the warnings. It was not immediately clear what action, if any, was taken in response.

Top government officials, including Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and his Cabinet, were reportedly kept in the dark about the intelligence until after the attack – which Senaratne blamed on political dysfunction within the government.

“We must look into why adequate precautions were not taken,” Wickremesinghe said Sunday.

An investigation has been launched into the apparent breakdown of communication within the government.

Terrorist attacks on Christians ‘happening more and more’: ex-FBI special agent

Speaking in the wake of the Easter Sunday massacre in Sri Lanka, a counterterrorism expert told Fox News radical Islamic terrorism is spreading beyond the Middle East and is “happening more and more.”

Bobby Chacon, a counterterrorism expert, told “Fox & Friends” Monday that violence on Christians on one of the holiest days of the calendar is nothing new, but claimed the deadly ideology behind the attacks is spreading.

SRI LANKA ON EDGE AFTER LOCAL ISLAMIC MILITANT GROUP BLAMED FOR EASTER SUNDAY ATTACKS: REPORT

“It’s another sign that the Middle East is not the sole source of these attacks and that we’ll see more of these attacks in places where we’ve seen relative stability,” Chacon said. “These countries need to get a grip on it.”

His comments come after an attack, reportedly from the local militant group named National Thowheek Jaamath, killed nearly 300 and injured hundreds more to a church and several hotels in the Indian subcontinent. Police arrested 13 suspects in connection with the bombings.

He added: “I would not be surprised if the investigation determines that there was significant assistance coming from groups outside that country to support an operation like this. It was a very coordinated, very planned – this small, local group in Sri Lanka, while it could have carried out an attack like this – I doubt that they did so without material support from outside.”

The retired FBI special agent went on to claim there are a lot of attacks on Christians that are underreported.

The Sri Lanka bombings came just days after ISIS claimed its first attacks in the Democratic Republic of Congo that killed three Congolese soldiers and wounded five others. Officials reportedly found terrorist manuals on the bodies of the fighters.

“In areas where there is already civil wars or certain civil dissent going on,” Chacon concluded, “it’s a hotbed for them to take advantage of the dissent that’s already happening to spread their ideology.”

Former college football coach Tommy Tuberville why he thinks he’s the perfect candidate to tackle Sen. Doug Jones, D-Ala., for his U.S. Senate seat.

Tuberville, 64, told “Fox & Friends” hosts Steve Doocy and Jedediah Bila he is going from the gridiron to the campaign trail because he wants to give back to the community and the state of Alabama.

JOE BELLINO, NAVY’S FIRST HEISMAN COLLEGE FOOTBALL AWARD WINNER, DIES AT 81

“I learned leadership, communication skills, bringing people together and that’s what you do in a job like this. You use all those skills and try to make everybody better. I want to build a winning strategy for Alabama and for this country,” he said.

Tuberville will be trying to recapture the seat for the Republican Party which was left vacant by Jeff Sessions when he joined the Trump administration as attorney general. Jones won the seat in a 2017 special election over ex-state Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore.

The former coach also has made his support for President Trump clear. He supported Trump during the election.

“I believe in him. He has a great work ethic. The guy’s a winner. The things that he’s done we need people to stand behind him in the Senate in Congress to help get his agenda through. I want to help this state in Alabama,” Tuberville said.

Tuberville will have to defeat Bradly Byrne, a congressman, to represent the GOP on the ticket. The primary is set for March 3, 2020.

As President Trump and the first lady prepare to welcome thousands of children and their families to annual Easter Egg Roll at the White House, Melania Trump’s spokesperson opened up about some of what people can expect this year.

Stephanie Grisham told “Fox & Friends” on Monday morning the first lady planned every detail of Monday’s spring event – from the color of the eggs to the activities offered.

“New activities that we are really excited for that go in line with her ‘Be Best’ campaign,” Grisham said. “‘Be Best’ hopscotch for the kids. ‘Be Best’ musical eggs that will be really fun… It’s going to be a great day.”

Grisham said the president and first lady will be part of the traditional egg roll as well as be part of an activity coloring cards with children that will be sent to troops overseas.

“There’s a ton of stuff to do. It’s going to be a great day,” she said.

When asked how the end of the Russia investigation felt as they were planning the final details of Monday’s Easter Egg Roll, Grisham said a weight was lifted off the administration.

“It was all very ridiculous, it’s great, we were down at Mar-a-Lago with the president and fast lady. Good mood and spirit.”

Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, called on Saturday for Congress to look into the origins of the Russia investigation, which he said started on a “false premise.”

Jordan, who serves as ranking member on the House Oversight Committee, told Fox News’ Neil Cavuto that Americans sensed Washington had a double standard that allowed elected officials to avoid punishment for wrongdoing.

“They do want people who launched this investigation, on a false premise, they do want them held accountable,” he said on “Cavuto Live.”

ANDREW MCCARTHY: MUELLER REPORT VINDICATES AG BILL BARR

He pointed to the infamous Steele dossier which informed the FBI’s suspicions surrounding President Donald Trump and the Russian government.

“You can’t have the FBI using one party’s opposition research document to launch an investigation and spy on the other party’s campaign,” he said.

“We know that took place and we do need to get to the bottom of that because it’s never supposed to happen in this country.” Jordan was referring to former President Barack Obama’s administration surveilling then-candidate Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign out of its concern over potential ties to Russia.

KELLYANNE CONWAY REITERATES CALL FOR ADAM SCHIFF’S RESIGNATION AFTER MUELLER REPORT’S RELEASE

Special counsel Robert Mueller’s report, released on Thursday, stopped short of formally accusing the Trump campaign of colluding with the Russian government. Justice Department leadership also said there wasn’t enough evidence to accuse Trump and his associates of either collusion or obstruction of justice.

But Democrats like Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., who serves on the House’s investigatory committees, thought the report contained enough troubling information to continue probing the president’s conduct. Swalwell, while appearing on Fox News on Friday, said the Obama administration didn’t owe the Trump campaign an apology because Mueller’s report showed suspcioius behavior and “laid out a multiplicity of contacts between the Trump campaign and Russians.”

Democratic leadership has signaled the Russia controversy was far from over as Trump declared victory and some speculated the issue could hurt Democrats’ chances in the 2020 election. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., has already subpoenaed the unredacted version of Mueller’s report and some in his party, like Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., pushed impeachment.

While Democrats go on offense, Republicans like Jordan could leverage that focus to attack Democrats for their involvement with the dossier. Jordan, however, indicated that his party wanted to focus on issues like immigration which a Fox News poll showed as the top concern among registered voters. The Mueller investigation didn’t rank among the top five issues in that poll.

On the 20th anniversary of the Columbine High School massacre, one of the survivors, Austin Eubanks, described to Fox News how he handled the tragedy which left him wounded and his best friend dead.

“I completely disassociated,” Eubanks told Fox News host Neil Cavuto on Saturday. “I’ve always been able to recall everything that happened that day but it was almost as if I was watching it on television. I wasn’t present in my own body.”

When the shooting happened, Eubanks said, he was on his way to lunch and talking with friends. “That was when the shooting started. Moments later, a teacher ran through those doors yelling for everybody to get under the tables.”

Eubanks was shot twice and afterwards, took medication that led to addiction during his twenties.

COLUMBINE SHOOTING 20TH ANNIVERSARY: SURVIVORS REFLECT ON HOW MASSACRE CHANGED THEIR LIVES

“I was prescribed medications for my physical injuries and immediately, I became drawn to those medications because of how they improved the underlying symptoms of emotional pain,” he said during his appearance on “Cavuto Live.”

He went on to help others resolve emotional pain they felt from undergoing traumas like his. As Cavuto noted, Columbine was just the beginning of a series of mass shootings that would affect American schools over the next two decades.

“I tell people who are struggling, the most crucial piece of recovery is staying connected to other human beings for support because we are so prone to detachment and there is countless adversity that comes with that,” he added.

Eubanks’ comments came just after an 18-year-old woman, who was “infatuated” with the shooting, threatened violence in the Denver area. By Wednesday, the woman, Sol Pais, had committed suicide and the FBI reported that there was “no longer a threat to the community.”

When Cavuto asked Eubanks about Pais, Eubanks described Columbine as an event that captured public attention like the Oklahoma City bombing and 9/11. “Everybody has an emotional attachment to Columbine and I think unfortunately, for those who are mentally deranged or unstable, it’s created this fascination.”

Independent Women’s Voice President Tammy Bruce and former CNN contributor Jeffrey Lord called the mainstream media “obsessed” with President Trump and compared them to drug addicts avoiding rehab Friday while appearing on the “Ingraham Angle” to discuss the aftermath of the Mueller report release.

“At this point, with the clips you showed, it’s turned into fan fiction. … It’s almost as if they know it’s absolutely impossible. But they can’t let it go. It’s like that show, ‘Intervention,’ where the person starts to run across the parking lot because they don’t want to get into the van to go to the airport to go to the rehab center,” Bruce said.

TRUMP CAMPAIGN GOES ON POST-MUELLER OFFENSIVE

“They’ve completely lost any sense of normalcy of any kind of sense of reality. They know it. They don’t care. They just think, well, maybe this is going to be click bait and maybe some of our audience will come back.”

Ingraham played both Bruce and Lord a montage of CNN hosts and pundits talking about how the Mueller report release and results were a win for Russia and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

TRUMP WORRIED MUELLER APPOINTMENT WOULD DISTRACT FROM HIS PRESIDENCY: ‘THIS IS THE END. I’M F—ED’

“Let’s be clear this report is a gift to the government of Russia,” one CNN commentator said in the montage.

The Mueller report was released Thursday and showed investigators did not find evidence of collusion between the 2016 Trump presidential campaign and Russian operatives.

Lord said he believes the media is “obsessed” with President Trump and disappointed the report didn’t find evidence of collusion. He also said he believes the investigation into how the Russia investigation began will deliver the “real truth.”

“They’re about to get the real truth with all of these deep-state people in the FBI and the Department of Justice who were colluding with members of the media to trap Donald Trump, to frame Donald Trump. And they were obsessed about it. They’re still obsessed about it,” Lord said.

“They’re so disappointed they didn’t get him and they’re going to try again. The only one they’re going to get is themselves.”

We know what Special Counsel Robert Mueller knew when it comes to the question of Trump-Russia collusion, but the great unknown is when he knew it — and why he kept his knowledge secret.

That’s according to Michael B. Mukasey, a former federal judge, and President George W. Bush’s attorney general.

Speaking to Fox News host Bill Hemmer on the latest episode of the “Hemmer Time” podcast, Mukasey asked why Mueller did not reveal the most important piece of information he uncovered until submitting his report to Attorney General William Barr.

“When did Bob Mueller know, or when did the people who worked with him know, that there was no coordination, which is what they were looking for?” the ex-AG said to Hemmer.

ARI FLEISCHER: TRUMP SHOULD MOVE ON FROM RUSSIA, LET DEMS ‘WALK THAT IMPEACHMENT PLANK’

“When did they realize that and whenever they realized that shouldn’t they have told the rest of us?”

After two years of suspense, Mueller’s report was released Thursday showing investigators did not find evidence of collusion between the 2016 Trump campaign and Russia – as Attorney General Bill Barr declared last month – but revealing an array of controversial actions by the president that were examined as part of the investigation’s obstruction inquiry.

Hemmer asked Mukasey if he felt Mueller coming forward with that information would’ve been beneficial, and if he should have pre-empted the official announcement to do so.

“I don’t know about preempted the announcement but certainly should have told us about it beforehand. It would have taken the speculation the edge and the speculation off,” he said, Mukasey said, before critiquing the media’s coverage of the investigation.

“You remember the exercise that was engaged in… The number of television broadcasts that would have involved people sitting around conference tables inhaling their own and other people’s exhaust and getting high on it?

TRUMP DECLARES VICTORY AS MUELLER REPORT DROPS: ‘NO COLLUSION, NO OBSTRUCTION’

“People talking about this indictment having this significance or that indictment signaling that the walls were closing in on the White House may have. If that was not true and known to be not true at the time then somebody should have said something.”

During the rest of the podcast, which can be downloaded here, the former attorney general continued to discuss Russian meddling, stating it is a long-established goal for the country.

“Look, the Russians have been messing with the West generally and with the United States specifically since the Communist Revolution,” Mukasey told Hemmer.

CHRIS WALLACE: BARR’S DECISION TO MAKE A CONCLUSION ON OBSTRUCTION IS ‘TROUBLING’ AND ‘POLITICALLY CHARGED’

This is of a piece with that. It’s more advanced obviously, they didn’t have the internet in 1917, and they’re going to have it in the next election. That’s not to minimize the seriousness of it in the sense that it’s something we ought to combat.

“But let’s have a sense of proportion here. It’s of a piece with what’s gone on before. It’s not something brand new nor was it something that appears to have been particularly effective.”

White House principal deputy press secretary Hogan Gidley struck back at CNN host Anderson Cooper on Friday, a day after having a contentious interview with the journalist, saying he would not be lectured by a member of the mainstream media who has been “lying” about President Trump.

“First of all, I’m not going to take a lecture on truth-telling from anybody in the mainstream media who has been lying about this president for the last two years, telling the American people that Donald Trump committed treason which is a crime punishable by death as you well know,” Gidley told “Ingraham Angle” host Laura Ingraham.

ROMNEY SAYS MUELLER REPORT LEFT HIM ‘SICKENED AT THE EXTENT AND PERVASIVENESS OF DISHONESTY AND MISDIRECTION’

On Thursday, Cooper and Gidley went back and forth over the release of the long-awaited Mueller report.

The report showed investigators did not find evidence of collusion between the 2016 Trump presidential campaign and Russia but did lay out an array of actions taken by the president that were examined as part of the investigation’s obstruction inquiry.

At one point during the interview Cooper asked Gidley if the president lied.

“No, i’m not aware of him lying. He hasn’t lied to me,” Gidley responded.

“I feel bad that you’re scared to say that your boss lied,” Cooper later added.

Gidley accused CNN of wanting accusations of collusion between the president and Russia to be true.

“The point is, for me to sit there with CNN and listen to them, who they wanted this to be true so badly. So many in the media did, and I understand why they don’t drop it,” Gidley said.

“Because if they did, they would be admitting the fact that the last two years of their life was a complete and total waste.”
