Graham says ‘the whole world should send China a bill’ over Beijing’s response to coronavirus

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., told “Hannity” Monday that China should pay — literally — for its response to the coronavirus that enabled the contagion to spread around the world.

“If it were up to me, the whole world should send China a bill for the pandemic,” Graham said. “This is the third pandemic to come out of China and they come from these wet markets where they have bats and monkeys with the virus — carrying the virus — intermingled with the food supply. Yeah, I’d make China pay big time.”

THE CORONAVIRUS OUTBREAK STATE BY STATE

“And here’s the question for 2020,” Graham added. “Who do you want to take on China? Trump or Joe Biden? I don’t think that would be a hard decision for most people.”

Graham also said that a proposal by Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., to force China to forgive U.S. debt as a consequence of their response to the pandemic “makes sense to me.”

When host Sean Hannity raised the possibility of another coronavirus aid bill including fuding for infrastructure projects, Graham joked that former President Barack Obama “spent $787 billion [on his stimulus package] and you didn’t even get a t-shirt.”

“[Trump] knows shovel-ready when he sees it … We doubled the size of the Department of Education in the Obama stimulus package, that’s not going to happen with the Trump stimulus package.”

“When it comes to what you do next,” Graham added, “we need to look at China from top to bottom, get our medical supply chain back and if we do a stimulus bill, it has to stimulate the economy, not the government.”

Capt. John Rotruck, the commander of the U.S. Navy hospital ship USNS Mercy, told “Fox & Friends Weekend” on Sunday that the hospital ship, stocked with supplies and medical personnel to aid in the coronavirus pandemic response, acts “as a relief valve to local hospitals” in the Los Angeles area.

California has seen over 5,600 confirmed coronavirus cases and more than 120 deaths, according to data compiled by Fox News. The state has been ranked third in the country for the most coronavirus cases after New York and New Jersey.

President Trump deployed the 1,000-bed hospital ship from the Naval Station in San Diego and it arrived in Los Angeles this past Friday to “serve as a referral hospital for non-COVID-19 patients” currently hospitalized on land.

“The Mercy is here to take care of non-COVID infected patients so that we can bring those patients aboard and act as a relief valve to local hospitals,” Rotruck said aboard the ship.

CORONAVIRUS: WHAT TO KNOW

“Five days after the activation order, we set sail,” he said, adding that once the ship arrived in Los Angeles, “we were ready to see patients,” especially because crew members did “a lot of team training” while they were en route to LA.

Mercy departed San Diego on Monday with more than 800 Navy medical personnel and support staff. It also carried more than 70 civil service mariners operating and navigating the ship, helping with repairs and loading and off-loading mission cargo, Fox 11 reported.

The hospital ship will offer general surgeries, critical care and ward care for adults, the station reported. The goal has been to allow local health professionals to focus on treating COVID-19 patients and for hospitals there to use their intensive-care units and ventilators for those patients, the station added.

When asked about the morale, Rotruck said, “I sense tremendous enthusiasm amongst our entire crew.”

“This is an exciting mission for us,” he continued. “It’s a rare chance that we actually get to help our fellow Americans on American soil. That is definitely a demonstration of the power of Navy medicine on behalf of our country.”

On Saturday, Trump was on hand in Norfolk, Va., to bid bon voyage to another U.S. Navy hospital ship, the USNS Comfort, bound for New York City.

Before saluting the “fully loaded” ship, Trump praised the 1,200 medical personnel aboard as the military’s “greatest weapon” in the pandemic response. The ship has 12 operating rooms, a medical laboratory, a pharmacy, a helicopter deck and more, Trump said.

As for the Mercy, Rotruck said every crew member was screened before boarding the ship — and patients who will be treated on the ship also would go through a screening process “to ensure that they do not have COVID.”

CPAC chair on attendee who contracted coronavirus: No evidence of symptoms among other attendees

The chairman of the Conservative Political Action Conference said Wednesday, days after an attendee tested positive for coronavirus, that CPAC staffers have reached out to the people who may have come into contact with the patient, whether they are members of Congress or “non-VIPs.”

Some Republican lawmakers are in self-quarantine after coming into contact with the individual, who tested positive after attending the annual summit at the end of February. Matt Schlapp, the CPAC chair, was accused by critics of only alerting high-powered officials that they may have been exposed to the deadly virus.

Speaking on “America’s Newsroom” on Wednesday, Matt Schlapp said everyone who may have had contact with the individual was alerted as “soon as we had hard evidence.”

CPAC staffers have reached out to more than 100 people who may have come into contact with the individual, Fox News learned on Tuesday from CPAC staffers, including dozens of people who are not elected officials – as well as members of the media who were covering the event.

“We’re still talking to as many people as we can to learn as much information as we possibly can,” Schlapp said. “We learn a little bit more every day.”

Officials from the top levels of government on the GOP side – President Trump, Vice President Pence, cabinet officials, top-ranking lawmakers – were in attendance. Several lawmakers, including Rep. Doug Collins, R-Ga., Rep. Paul Gosar, R-Ariz., Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and now-acting White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, opted to self-quarantine as a precaution.

CORONAVIRUS AT CPAC: DIAGNOSIS TRIGGERS SCRAMBLE TO TRACE EXPOSURE

Schlapp, who had brief contact with the patient, said on Wednesday that nobody else who attended the conference has so far contracted the virus, including himself.

Schlapp said he is feeling “great” and “never had a symptom.”

The White House said there’s no indication that Trump or Pence were in close proximity to the stricken attendee.

The president did, however, spend time with Collins and Gaetz since CPAC. Collins shook Trump’s hand and joined him for a visit to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Ga., on Friday. He also met with Trump at the White House last week, several days after the Feb. 26-29 conference.

Gaetz was spotted riding on Air Force One on Monday as he learned the news. White House officials said that when Gaetz learned he had been in close proximity to the man with coronavirus at CPAC, he sat by himself in a section of the president’s plane.

“The president is healthy as a horse. I’m healthy as a horse,” Schlapp said on Wednesday.

He added, “Coming out of CPAC, one thing we’ve learned is even when there is an infected person amongst thousands and thousands, in our case over 10,000 people, it is very, very difficult to contract this virus.”

The infected attendee, who reportedly is a New York City-based doctor, is currently in a hospital in Englewood, N.J. On Wednesday, Schlapp would not share or confirm the identity of the individual.

“We’re following all the public health guidelines,” he said.

Schlapp added, “We’re going to follow the lead of the public health officials. If they decide it’s in the interest of public health to release a name, we’re going to be good with that. We’ll be happy to verify it.”

Melissa Francis: Why Monday’s stock market panic is ‘overdone’

Fox Business anchor Melissa Francis said on “Outnumbered” that she thinks Monday’s “panic in the market” is “overdone,” reacting to the day’s sharp selloff.

Francis made the comment as U.S. equity markets were drastically lower Monday after an oil price war broke out between Saudi Arabia and Russia and the new coronavirus showed signs of spreading.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down by as many as 2,046 points, or 7.9 percent, in the opening minutes of trading while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were lower by 7.4 percent and 7.3 percent, respectively. The Dow and S&P 500 were on track for their biggest drops since December 2008.

DOW PLUNGES MORE THAN 2,100 POINTS, OIL CRASHES AS PRICE WAR ERUPTS AND CORONAVIRUS SPREADS

“This downdraft is not about this coronavirus response this morning,” Francis noted. “It’s about what’s going on in the oil markets and we see this massive selloff in oil because Russia and Saudi Arabia were cooperating.”

She added, “It’s an oversupply in oil in the market and they were cooperating to support price. Now they are not.”

Francis then noted that there is now a price war as it pertains to crude oil.

“A lot of regular people have said, ‘Why is this bad for Americans?’ Because it might signal a recession or bring on a recession,” she noted.

Francis went on to note the connection to the novel coronavirus.

“The reason why the price of oil is falling is because people aren’t traveling so this is really important,” she said.

“What’s important is we have the right people in Washington right now,” Francis continued. “This is what [the president’s chief economic adviser] Larry Kudlow has been saying. We have [Treasury Secretary] Steve Mnuchin. We have a president who understands credit markets and understands that as you see companies be threatened by a possible recession, by the low price in oil, that they know to how to respond in a very targeted way in order to support businesses and the economy and I think this panic in the market today is overdone.”

Kayleigh McEnany: Biden ‘can’t survive’ debate with Sanders or Trump

Trump 2020 National Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany said on “Fox & Friends Weekend” that former Vice President Joe Biden would not be able to survive a one-on-one debate with Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., or President Trump.

“Those who are saying [Biden] had a good debate the last time around, he spoke in sound bites. He was on a stage with five or six others,” McEnany said Sunday. “In a two-hour format with Bernie Sanders, this man will not survive.”

“He forgets what state he is in seven times,” she continued. “He can’t survive a debate with Bernie Sanders and he certainly can’t survive one with President Trump.”

McEnany made the comments ahead of Tuesday’s primary contests in six states where Democrats will go to the polls for the first time since Super Tuesday, with only Biden, Sanders and Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, D-Hawaii, still in the race.

Speaking in Kansas City, Mo., on Saturday Biden said, “We’re creating a movement here, a movement powered by the backbone of the Democratic Party, a movement that will defeat Donald Trump and restore… this nation.”

McEnany reacted to his statement on Sunday saying, “He has no movement. In fact, he has astroturfed a coalition by encouraging people to drop out, backroom, smoky deals, building a coalition of voters leaving no alternative to Bernie other than himself.”

TRUMP EMBRACES MUDDLES BIDEN ‘ENDORSEMENT,’ AS CONCERNS MOUNT OVER FORMER VP’S COMPETENCE

“He has no enthusiasm,” she continued, adding that he was lacking in donations, “at least he was until last Tuesday.” McEnany was referencing Super Tuesday when Biden was victorious in 10 out of 14 states.

“He’s funded by billionaires… there’s [sic] just a lot of backroom deals,” McEnany said Sunday.

Sanders, who won delegate-rich California on Super Tuesday, said at a campaign rally in Dearborn, Mich., on Saturday that “we believe in democracy, one person, one vote, not billionaires spending hundreds of millions of dollars.”

He continued, “I just don’t think that Joe Biden can generate enthusiasm when you got 60 billionaires contributing to his campaign.”

Biden largely has been basking in new support — even picking up the endorsement of Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., who just last year accused Biden of supporting what she called racist policies that affected her personally.

Harris joined Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., former South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg, former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke, ex-New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg, Rep. Tim Ryan, D-Ohio, former Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick and former Maryland Rep. John Delaney in endorsing Biden.

“I know people try to make a difference between the two saying Biden is a moderate, but it’s not the case,” McEnany said Sunday. “Biden is so far left of [former President Barack] Obama. Biden supports a public option, which would crowd out private insurance. Biden wants to eliminate fossil fuels.”

“Biden is as far left as Bernie,” she continued. “He might cloak it and disguise it in moderate rhetoric, but make no mistake, this man is not a moderate.”

She added, “This man is so far from where Obama once stood so they’ve [Democrats] embraced socialism. They have embraced a veiled, cloaked form of it in Biden.”

Hygiene product supplier sells out of hand sanitizer amid coronavirus scare: ‘We have never seen anything close to this’

A hygiene product supplier told “Fox & Friends Weekend” Sunday that he has sold out of hand sanitizer amid the coronavirus scare saying, “We have never seen anything close to this.”

Brian Greenberg, co-CEO of Touchfree Concepts, which, according to its website, sells touch-free restroom products and janitorial supplies, made the comments on Sunday as the number of U.S. coronavirus cases swelled to 400, with cases in about half of the states. The total U.S. death toll has reached 19.

Coronavirus fears prompted shoppers across the country to stock up on disinfectants and nonperishable foods.

“We are absolutely being bombarded by phone calls, emails and people trying to place orders,” Greenberg said on Sunday. “We actually ran out of Purell about two-and-a-half weeks ago and we are completely out of every other type of hand sanitizer.”

“GOJO, the maker of Purell, has informed us that they will have more stock at the end of March and early April,” he continued.

Last week, Kroger, one of America’s largest supermarket chains, capped the amount of sanitizing and cold and flu products customers can order on its website, due to the high volume of demand amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Gary Millerchip, Kroger’s senior vice president and chief financial officer, said the media’s coverage of the virus has made customers hypervigilant and driven up the demand for such items, according to the New York Post.

Greenberg said on Sunday that he recommends people get on the waiting list for hand sanitizer if it’s sold out.

“If you go online, you probably won’t be able to buy the products, it’s just the nature of shopping carts online,” Greenberg noted.

HELP PREVENT CORONAVIRUS WITH HAND SANITIZER: HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN

“But what you should do is actually e-mail the companies and let them know that you want to place an order and that if they’re not in stock, that you want to be placed on back order,” he advised.  “This will ensure that you get the first batch that comes in. So as soon as it comes in, you don’t have to go to Walmart and try to catch it as soon as they stock it on the shelves.”

Fox News published a recipe last week for making homemade hand sanitizer, which uses 99 percent rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) or ethanol, aloe vera gel, and essential oil.

Greenberg noted that there is also a shortage of face masks.

“We sold out of all the masks in mid-January and specifically the N95 [surgical and face] masks, we could not get,” he said on Sunday. “We contacted 3M, who are the manufacturers of the masks, and they are telling us that they will not be restocking it.”

“I believe they’re under contract with the government right now and they’re filling a massive order, not only 3M, but all the other manufacturers of the mask and they’re going to make sure that they divvy it out to the people that need it the most,” Greenberg added.

Cancer patient quarantined on cruise ship fears she’ll miss treatments: ‘I really feel like I need to be off the ship’

Speaking on “Fox & Friends Weekend” on Sunday Kari Kolstoe, a passenger quarantined aboard the Grand Princess cruise ship with stage 4 cancer said, “really feel like I need to be off the ship.”

Kolstoe of North Dakota, 60, fears she may miss her next round of chemotherapy if she’s forced to stay on the quarantined boat, which is currently stationed off the coast of California and carrying more than 3,500 people from more than 50 countries.

“I’m in a lot of pain. I need to get back for treatment,” she said on Sunday, adding that the cruise was planned years ago.

“The doctor said I could go and obviously in hindsight, it didn’t work out so well, but we thought we were safe and taking everybody’s best advice,” she continued. “So now [I’m] trying to get off this floating petri dish.”

Kolstoe and her husband Paul, 61, said they booked the cruise to help ease the stress of her medical treatments, according to Reuters. Her chemo is supposed to begin again on Monday, but it’s unclear if she will be released in time to make it to the hospital. On Sunday, the Grand Princess was heading to the port of Oakland, Calif., though it is expected that passengers will likely stay aboard the ship for at least another day, according to the Grand Princess Capt. John Smith.

CANCER PATIENT ON GRAND PRINCESS CRUISE SHIP MIGHT MISS TREATMENTS DUE TO CORONAVIRUS QUARANTINE

Smith said passengers who need medical treatment or hospitalization will go to health care facilities in California, while state residents who don’t require acute medical care “will go to a federally operated isolation facility within California for testing and isolation.”

Kolstoe said on Sunday that she has not communicated with the health department, but has been in touch with the state medical director in North Dakota.

“They got a plan, if I can get to North Dakota, how to get services at a cancer center with other sick patients,” she said, adding that “getting there is the problem.”

She said she needs both radiation and chemotherapy “and the radiation is imperative.”

At least 21 people aboard the ship, including 19 crew members, have tested positive for the virus, Vice President Mike Pence said Friday. The ship was heading from Hawaii to San Francisco when it was held off the California coast Wednesday so people with symptoms could be tested for the virus.

Kolstoe said on Sunday that she has heard “nothing specific” about potentially being able to get off the ship on Sunday, but added that on Saturday night “we got our first little bit of good news that the process will start today sometime.”

“The captain last night, when we heard that it will start today, he made it sound like we’re docking today and then obviously acute patients who are already in trouble will be taken right to medical facilities,” she said. “Right now I’m not showing symptoms. I understand I’ll have to be tested, but we got to figure out some way for me to get treatment.”

She added, “President Trump and Vice President Pence and my senator Kevin Cramer from North Dakota are moving mountains really.”

Kolstoe went on to say that she’s not “trying to look on the downside, but I had kind of given up hope that anything would happen this weekend.”

On Saturday, cruise officials disclosed how they think the outbreak started. Grant Tarling, chief medical officer for Carnival Corporation, said it’s believed a 71-year-old Northern California man who later died of the virus was probably sick when he boarded the ship for a Feb. 11 cruise to Mexico.

Kolstoe said she hasn’t “laid eyes on another person” since Tuesday.

“We’re all in this together in these little gerbil-sized rooms,” she said.

Kolstoe added, “The crew is doing everything possible. They’re working under terrible conditions, having to deliver everything.”

Tennessee residents hope that President Trump will see how communities are coming together in the wake of devastating tornadoes.

In an interview on “Fox & Friends” with Fox News’ Grady Trimble, a Nashville man who survived the tornado sheltering inside his home said Friday that he was “shocked and devastated.”

However, he told Trimble that he hoped the president will see “how everybody is coming together as a community to get the debris and stuff cleaned up.”

“They say they need help and they want him to see the damage here and see how bad it is so they get the much-needed relief,” Trimble remarked.

TRUMP VISITING TENNESSEE AFTER DEADLY TORNADOES

The president is set to visit disaster areas in Middle Tennessee on Friday, just days after the storms ravaged the Volunteer State leaving dozens dead and many more injured.

He will be joined by Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee, Sen. Marsha Blackburn, and other top officials during his trip. The White House has not yet specified exactly where the group will visit, but the president is reportedly expected to land at Nashville International Airport at around 10 a.m. ET.

On Thursday Trump approved a disaster declaration, making federal funding available to those affected by the storms in Davidson, Putnam and Wilson counties, the White House said. More assistance may be designated as damage assessments continue.

“Before I begin I want to send my warm wishes to the great people of Tennessee,” Trump said at the beginning of his speech at the National Association of Counties Legislative Conference Tuesday. “I’ll be going there Friday. Our hearts are full of sorrow for the lives that were lost.”

The first tornado began early Tuesday morning, creating over a 50-mile trail of destruction. A second tornado then tore through communities farther east of Nashville, causing most of the deaths.

At least 24 people were killed. Putnam County was the hardest hit, where 18 people were killed — including five children under 13.

“It hit so fast, a lot of folks didn’t have time to take shelter,” Putnam County Mayor Randy Porter said Tuesday. “Many of these folks were sleeping.”

The weather service said that the tornado that hit Putnam was an EF-4 tornado, categorized as extreme between 166 and 200 mph. Local officials said it was on the ground for about two miles.

Fox News’ Adam Shaw, Kelly Chernenkoff, Brie Stimson, and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Ari Fleischer: Super Tuesday should serve as a ‘warning’ to Democrats, hearten Team Trump

Democrats should be worried about the November election now that the vote counts from Super Tuesday have been added up, according to former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer.

Fleischer told “Hannity” on Thursday that of the nine states that took part in Super Tuesday primaries in 2016 and 2020, only three saw increased voter turnout on the Democratic side and one of those states was Vermont, the home of candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders.

TRUMP: SCHUMER ‘WOULD BE IN JAIL’ IF HE WAS A REPUBLICAN FOR REMARKS TOWARD GORSUCH, KAVANAUGH

“In six states, Democrats had a turnout decline compared to 2008,” Fleischer said. “The lack of enthusiasm for the Democratic field is a warning for the Democrats in the fall, and the Trump turnout machine — you’ve got to give credit to the Trump campaign.”

In contrast to the Democrats, Trump received very high vote totals in primaries that were uncompetitive apart from a nominal challenge to the incumbent in some states from former Massachusetts Gov. William Weld

“When nobody is against you on the ballot and people are still showing up to vote for you, that is a good sign of things about energy and enthusiasm for fall,” Fleischer said.

Retired Secret Service agent Dan Bongino later added to Fleischer’s point, telling host Sean Hannity that Florida’s March 17 primary will be even more key to predicting the voter turnout in the fall.

Bongino explained that unlike many Super Tuesday states, Florida’s presidential primary ballot does not include any down-ballot races.

“I will guarantee you Floridians will show up en masse to vote for Donald Trump, even though there’s no question he is going to be the nominee,” he said. “I bet the numbers [will be] competitive with the Democrats, despite the fact that they have a competitive primary.”
