Cancer patient quarantined on cruise ship fears she’ll miss treatments: ‘I really feel like I need to be off the ship’

Speaking on “Fox & Friends Weekend” on Sunday Kari Kolstoe, a passenger quarantined aboard the Grand Princess cruise ship with stage 4 cancer said, “really feel like I need to be off the ship.”

Kolstoe of North Dakota, 60, fears she may miss her next round of chemotherapy if she’s forced to stay on the quarantined boat, which is currently stationed off the coast of California and carrying more than 3,500 people from more than 50 countries.

“I’m in a lot of pain. I need to get back for treatment,” she said on Sunday, adding that the cruise was planned years ago.

“The doctor said I could go and obviously in hindsight, it didn’t work out so well, but we thought we were safe and taking everybody’s best advice,” she continued. “So now [I’m] trying to get off this floating petri dish.”

Kolstoe and her husband Paul, 61, said they booked the cruise to help ease the stress of her medical treatments, according to Reuters. Her chemo is supposed to begin again on Monday, but it’s unclear if she will be released in time to make it to the hospital. On Sunday, the Grand Princess was heading to the port of Oakland, Calif., though it is expected that passengers will likely stay aboard the ship for at least another day, according to the Grand Princess Capt. John Smith.

CANCER PATIENT ON GRAND PRINCESS CRUISE SHIP MIGHT MISS TREATMENTS DUE TO CORONAVIRUS QUARANTINE

Smith said passengers who need medical treatment or hospitalization will go to health care facilities in California, while state residents who don’t require acute medical care “will go to a federally operated isolation facility within California for testing and isolation.”

Kolstoe said on Sunday that she has not communicated with the health department, but has been in touch with the state medical director in North Dakota.

“They got a plan, if I can get to North Dakota, how to get services at a cancer center with other sick patients,” she said, adding that “getting there is the problem.”

She said she needs both radiation and chemotherapy “and the radiation is imperative.”

At least 21 people aboard the ship, including 19 crew members, have tested positive for the virus, Vice President Mike Pence said Friday. The ship was heading from Hawaii to San Francisco when it was held off the California coast Wednesday so people with symptoms could be tested for the virus.

Kolstoe said on Sunday that she has heard “nothing specific” about potentially being able to get off the ship on Sunday, but added that on Saturday night “we got our first little bit of good news that the process will start today sometime.”

“The captain last night, when we heard that it will start today, he made it sound like we’re docking today and then obviously acute patients who are already in trouble will be taken right to medical facilities,” she said. “Right now I’m not showing symptoms. I understand I’ll have to be tested, but we got to figure out some way for me to get treatment.”

She added, “President Trump and Vice President Pence and my senator Kevin Cramer from North Dakota are moving mountains really.”

Kolstoe went on to say that she’s not “trying to look on the downside, but I had kind of given up hope that anything would happen this weekend.”

On Saturday, cruise officials disclosed how they think the outbreak started. Grant Tarling, chief medical officer for Carnival Corporation, said it’s believed a 71-year-old Northern California man who later died of the virus was probably sick when he boarded the ship for a Feb. 11 cruise to Mexico.

Kolstoe said she hasn’t “laid eyes on another person” since Tuesday.

“We’re all in this together in these little gerbil-sized rooms,” she said.

Kolstoe added, “The crew is doing everything possible. They’re working under terrible conditions, having to deliver everything.”

Tennessee residents hope that President Trump will see how communities are coming together in the wake of devastating tornadoes.

In an interview on “Fox & Friends” with Fox News’ Grady Trimble, a Nashville man who survived the tornado sheltering inside his home said Friday that he was “shocked and devastated.”

However, he told Trimble that he hoped the president will see “how everybody is coming together as a community to get the debris and stuff cleaned up.”

“They say they need help and they want him to see the damage here and see how bad it is so they get the much-needed relief,” Trimble remarked.

TRUMP VISITING TENNESSEE AFTER DEADLY TORNADOES

The president is set to visit disaster areas in Middle Tennessee on Friday, just days after the storms ravaged the Volunteer State leaving dozens dead and many more injured.

He will be joined by Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee, Sen. Marsha Blackburn, and other top officials during his trip. The White House has not yet specified exactly where the group will visit, but the president is reportedly expected to land at Nashville International Airport at around 10 a.m. ET.

On Thursday Trump approved a disaster declaration, making federal funding available to those affected by the storms in Davidson, Putnam and Wilson counties, the White House said. More assistance may be designated as damage assessments continue.

“Before I begin I want to send my warm wishes to the great people of Tennessee,” Trump said at the beginning of his speech at the National Association of Counties Legislative Conference Tuesday. “I’ll be going there Friday. Our hearts are full of sorrow for the lives that were lost.”

The first tornado began early Tuesday morning, creating over a 50-mile trail of destruction. A second tornado then tore through communities farther east of Nashville, causing most of the deaths.

At least 24 people were killed. Putnam County was the hardest hit, where 18 people were killed — including five children under 13.

“It hit so fast, a lot of folks didn’t have time to take shelter,” Putnam County Mayor Randy Porter said Tuesday. “Many of these folks were sleeping.”

The weather service said that the tornado that hit Putnam was an EF-4 tornado, categorized as extreme between 166 and 200 mph. Local officials said it was on the ground for about two miles.

Fox News’ Adam Shaw, Kelly Chernenkoff, Brie Stimson, and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Ari Fleischer: Super Tuesday should serve as a ‘warning’ to Democrats, hearten Team Trump

Westlake Legal Group Video-2020-03-05T214122.452 Ari Fleischer: Super Tuesday should serve as a 'warning' to Democrats, hearten Team Trump fox-news/topic/super-tuesday fox-news/topic/fox-news-flash fox-news/shows/hannity fox-news/politics/elections/republicans fox-news/politics/elections/democrats fox-news/politics/2020-presidential-election fox-news/person/donald-trump fox-news/media fox news fnc/media fnc eae2f98e-b1e4-5e23-8955-5bbe431cda26 Charles Creitz article

Democrats should be worried about the November election now that the vote counts from Super Tuesday have been added up, according to former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer.

Fleischer told “Hannity” on Thursday that of the nine states that took part in Super Tuesday primaries in 2016 and 2020, only three saw increased voter turnout on the Democratic side and one of those states was Vermont, the home of candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders.

TRUMP: SCHUMER ‘WOULD BE IN JAIL’ IF HE WAS A REPUBLICAN FOR REMARKS TOWARD GORSUCH, KAVANAUGH

“In six states, Democrats had a turnout decline compared to 2008,” Fleischer said. “The lack of enthusiasm for the Democratic field is a warning for the Democrats in the fall, and the Trump turnout machine — you’ve got to give credit to the Trump campaign.”

In contrast to the Democrats, Trump received very high vote totals in primaries that were uncompetitive apart from a nominal challenge to the incumbent in some states from former Massachusetts Gov. William Weld

“When nobody is against you on the ballot and people are still showing up to vote for you, that is a good sign of things about energy and enthusiasm for fall,” Fleischer said.

Retired Secret Service agent Dan Bongino later added to Fleischer’s point, telling host Sean Hannity that Florida’s March 17 primary will be even more key to predicting the voter turnout in the fall.

Bongino explained that unlike many Super Tuesday states, Florida’s presidential primary ballot does not include any down-ballot races.

“I will guarantee you Floridians will show up en masse to vote for Donald Trump, even though there’s no question he is going to be the nominee,” he said. “I bet the numbers [will be] competitive with the Democrats, despite the fact that they have a competitive primary.”

Mark Steyn: Warren lost because Democratic voters didn’t want ‘gesture politics’

Author and columnist Mark Steyn reacted to Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., dropping out of the 2020 Democratic presidential sweeps on Thursday, telling “Tucker Carlson Tonight” that her campaign was mortally wounded by embracing identity politics.

“Some months ago,” Steyn told host Tucker Carlson, “she was actually doing well, she was in the lead. But because her entire biography was a lie, she couldn’t run on that, and as a result, she was just running on policy, in a rather effective way.”

Steyn reminded Carlson that Warren had built up a fairly “substantive” resume in the 1990s as a legal scholar and economic policy wonk. However, Steyn said Warren dampened her own success by identifying as Native American, a claim for which she apologized early last year.

“The fact is that she was a substantive person in the ’90s, with this very weird biographical thing in that she had pretended to be something other than who she is,” Steyn said. “So she had done all this rubbish, like submitting the Duke of Windsor’s favorite crab recipe to the ‘Pow Wow Chow’ Cherokee cookbook. That in itself is an example of how identity politics has deranged the American left … And either this stuff matters or it doesn’t.”

“This person actually passed herself off as Harvard Law School’s first woman of color,” Steyn added, “and nobody called her on it.”

At the same time, Steyn said Warren showed promise when she attacked Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., for allegedly calling her a liar during a Democratic debate in January

“Everyone thought she won that round,” he said. “The grumpy old coot (Sanders) just said ‘let’s not talk about that right now.'”

“But If you talked to any of those young, progressive, millennial, Generation Z types, it was the final nail in the coffin for Elizabeth Warren,” he said. “They wanted actual, serious policy, and they are not interested in letting the 9-year-old transgender fly the plane. They understand all that rubbish for the gesture politics that it is.”

Ex-Sanders surrogate encourages Warren to reject Biden’s ‘racist, monopolistic, neoliberal policies’

Nomiki Konst, a former surrogate for Sen. Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign, told Fox News Thursday that she hopes Sen. Elizabeth Warren “courageously steps up and shows her strength as a leader in siding with Bernie Sanders and creating a progressive front against the racist, monopolistic, neoliberal policies of Joe Biden that are not very different than Donald Trump.”

Konst, a former candidate for New York City public, was reacting on “Outnumbered Overtime” to Warren dropping out of the 2020 Democratic race following a disappointing Super Tuesday in which she placed third in her home state of Massachusetts.

Warren’s decision essentially leaves the race as a one-on-one battle between Sanders and Biden, who is surging after claiming a stunning 10 victories in 14 state contests earlier this week. The senator from Massachusetts told reporters she would not yet make an endorsement.

“Let’s take a deep breath and think about this for a little bit longer,” Warren said, adding: “We don’t have to decide that this minute.”

“We would have loved to have her, of course, endorse Bernie Sanders today,” Konst said.

“You’re seeing so many of her prominent surrogates come out today saying that they are supporting Bernie Sanders because they cannot see themselves supporting Joe Biden, who has taken more money from the credit card industry that Elizabeth Warren is fighting. That is taking monopoly money, something that she is fighting,” she added.

She also said Biden has been the “architect” of “the horrible criminal laws of the ‘90s that put one in three black men in jail, [as well as] the welfare reform bill.”

“This is Joe Biden,” she continued. “It’s a very different race than Elizabeth Warren’s race and if you look at the supporters and the platform of Elizabeth Warren, it is so closely aligned with Bernie Sanders.”

WARREN DROPS OUT OF 2020 RACE, DECLINES TO MAKE ENDORSEMENT FOR NOW IN SANDERS-BIDEN SHOWDOWN

When host Harris Faulkner pointed out that it sounds like Konst will not back Biden if he is the Democratic nominee, Konst responded by saying, “Right now Bernie Sanders is the only candidate that has a movement on the ground to defeat Donald Trump.”

“Joe Biden got a bunch of endorsements and some support that came to him in the last minute, that shows he has weak support,” she continued. “Joe Biden doesn’t have millions of small-dollar donations, millions of people knocking on doors. He had a good week, but Bernie Sanders has been building a movement for the last five years and I think there’s a lot of room for Bernie Sanders to take this nomination.”

Warren’s decision to drop out follows the departure from the Democratic field of former South Bend, Ind. Mayor  Pete Buttigieg and Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., both of whom endorsed Biden. Billionaire former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg dropped out of the race on Wednesday and also endorsed Biden.

When asked by MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow Wednesday if he would consider asking Warren to be his running mate, Sanders responded: “It’s too early to talk about that, but certainly I have a lot of respect for Senator Warren and would love to sit down and talk to her about what kind of role she can play in our administration.”

“I think that a Bernie Sanders-Elizabeth Warren ticket would be very hard for Joe Biden to beat,” Konst said.

“That is the future of the party. Actually, that’s the current state of the party,” she continued. “Joe Biden is the past of the party. So if we want to move forward, if we want to defeat Trump, have a different message than Donald Trump and an actual movement on the ground to defeat Donald Trump’s unified Republican movement, we need to go with the movement candidates, not the guy who’s being propped up by a bunch of superdelegates and establishment people doing some political trading.”

Former Democratic presidential candidate Marianne Williamson, a supporter of Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., told Fox News Wednesday that Democratic strategist James Carville was out of line when he suggested the party unite behind former Vice President Joe Biden after his strong Super Tuesday performance.

“I see Democrats asking Sanders ‘Look, let’s don’t drag this thing out any more than we have to. People want to get onto the general election. They want to get on to defeating Donald Trump,'” Carville said on MSNBC Tuesday night.

“And I think Sanders’ showing tonight made hardly any showing with the African-Americans who are our most loyal constituency, “Carville continued, “and [one of our] most exciting new constituencies … educated white women, [Sanders] showed nothing.”

On “The Story,” Williamson, an author and inspirational speaker, told host Martha MacCallum that Carville’s comments were factually wrong.

“That was outrageous. James Carville, that was outrageous,” she said forcefully. “It was undemocratic.”

BLOOMBERG ADVISER: TRUMP NEEDS ‘A BOX OF PAMPERS’

Williamson added that Carville missed Sanders’ strong performance in a major Super Tuesday state that is flush with both constituencies he mentioned:

“What do you call California by the way?” she said.

She said that Carville, a longtime ally of the Clintons who helped then-Arkansas Gov. Bill Clinton pull off a surprise win in 1992, is a “political operative” and that if Sanders were his candidate, he would have likely been critical of Biden.”

“I know James Carville has his favorite horse in this race but that was uncalled for,” she said of the Louisiana native.

Williamson also addressed reports that reps from Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s campaign were huddling with Sanders officials late Wednesday, saying Warren is a strong woman who must be considering tough questions and actions regarding her bid for the White House.

“She knows about the moderates who left the race to endorse Biden and I’m sure there is a lot of pressure on her to do the same for Bernie,” she said. “But, let’s always put the humanity of people first and understand that people have to go through what they have to go through to make the decisions that they make.”

Top Bloomberg adviser says Trump needs ‘a box of Pampers’ after president mocks ex-NYC mayor

A senior adviser to former New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg‘s now-defunct presidential campaign slammed President Trump Wednesday after the commander-in-chief trashed his fellow New Yorker on Twitter.

Timothy O’Brien, the campaign’s senior adviser and the executive editor of Bloomberg Opinion, said Wednesday on “Bill Hemmer Reports” that he would have to “send the president a box of Pampers because what he really should be doing is focusing on the business of the country.”

Trump predicted that Bloomberg will fire O’Brien, along with “all of the fools and truly dumb people who got him into” the Democratic presidential campaign.

“This has been the worst, and most embarrassing experience of his life…and now on to Sleepy Joe!” Trump crowed, adding that Bloomberg “didn’t have what it takes” to win the presidency.

O’Brien said he and the former Bloomberg team will continue to focus on issues in the presidential election and do what they can to help former Vice President Joe Biden win the White House.

“There’s the coronavirus that has people on edge, the stock market has been whipsawed. People have been concerned about the president’s competence for a long time,” O’Brien told host Bill Hemmer. “I’m amazed that [Trump] can’t focus on what matters to the American people and he has to constantly personalize these sideshow issues,”

When asked about Bloomberg’s unprecedented personal expenditures related to his campaign, O’Brien said he never believed anyone could “buy” the presidency.

“As I said from the beginning, you can buy exposure, you can’t buy an election. If you could buy an election, some of the candidates that came in with money and dropped out and never polled close to Mike Bloomberg would have been more formidable,” he said, adding that the 78-year-old mogul’s business success, mayorship and philanthropy prove that assertion.

Ari Fleischer rips Bloomberg, says former NYC mayor is ‘wasting everyone’s time and needs to drop out’

Former New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg is wasting America’s time, according to ex-White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer.

Fleischer, who served under President George W. Bush, said Tuesday that the 78-year-old business mogul’s disappointing performance in the evening’s Super Tuesday primaries shows that he has no clear route to the Democratic nomination.

“I think he got into the campaign to make TV stations rich. That’s what he has done,” Fleischer joked before asking rhetorically: “What is Mike Bloomberg doing?

“He is wasting money and wasting everyone’s time. He needs to drop out.”

As of 10:30 p.m. ET, Bloomberg had won only a single race — the caucuses in American Samoa.

BIDEN ROLLS TO EARLY SUPER TUESDAY VICTORIES IN THE SOUTH, SANDERS WINS COLORADO AND VERMONT

The ex-mayor will earn a handful of delegates from other contests besides the South Pacific U.S. territory, but Fleischer said there is overwhelming disdain for him within the Democratic electorate.

He claimed that recent surveys showed anywhere from 25 to 58 percent of Democratic voters, depending on the Super Tuesday state, would be “dissatisfied” if Bloomberg wins the party’s nomination.

Former Vice President Joe Biden swept to victory in at least eight Super Tuesday contests in the South and elsewhere, while Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., scooped up at least three wins in more reliably liberal territory – divvying up the map on the biggest primary day of the season and indicating a tight battle between the two that is likely to drag on for weeks or more.

Biden so far is projected to win Virginia, Tennessee, Alabama, North Carolina, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Arkansas and Oklahoma. Fox News also projected Sanders to handily win his home state of Vermont and was projected to win Utah and Colorado.

Americans worried about coronavirus don’t need to buy face masks, US surgeon general says

Americans worried about the coronavirus outbreak shouldn’t buy face masks to protect themselves against it because the masks are ineffective for those without symptoms — and the purchases deplete the supplies available for medical professionals, the U.S. surgeon general said Saturday.

“Seriously people- STOP BUYING MASKS!” Dr. Jerome M. Adams wrote on Twitter, addressing fears over the spread of the virus in the U.S.

“They are NOT effective in preventing general public from catching #Coronavirus, but if healthcare providers can’t get them to care for sick patients, it puts them and our communities at risk!”

Adams was referring to the recent spike in sales of face masks, including N95 respirator masks, that has led to price gouging and potential shortages.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says masks should be worn only by medical professionals and those with the virus, adding the best way to stay healthy is to wash your hands and avoid touching your eyes and mouth.

“There are severe strains on protective equipment around the world,” Dr. Michael J. Ryan, executive director of the health emergency program at the World Health Organization, said during a briefing on Friday, according to The New York Times. “Our primary concern is to ensure that our front line health workers are protected and that they have the equipment they need to do their jobs.”

CORONAVIRUS FEARS SEND FACE MASK PRICES SKYROCKETING, PROMPT WARNINGS ABOUT PRICE GOUGING

“There are limits to how a mask can protect you from being infected,” he added. “The most important thing everyone can do is wash your hands, keep your hands away from your face and observe very precise hygiene.”

After some sellers on Amazon recently marked up face masks to nearly four times their regular price, the site warned sellers that price gouging could get them thrown off the website.

“Sellers set their own product prices in our store and we have policies to help ensure sellers are pricing products competitively. We actively monitor our store and remove offers that violate our policies,” an Amazon spokesman said in a statement. By Wednesday, Amazon had already sold out of some brands, CBS News reported.

“There is no role for these masks in the community,” Robert Redfield, director of the CDC, told Congress on Thursday, according to The Times. “These masks need to be prioritized for health care professionals that as part of their job are taking care of individuals.”

Last week, Prestige Ameritech, the largest manufacturer of face masks in the U.S., said it can’t keep up with the demand.

“It’s a madhouse,” executive vice president of the company, Mike Bowen, told CBS.  “We are going as fast as we can.”

Vice President Mike Pence, who President Trump tapped this week to head the administration’s coronavirus task force, said in a news conference Saturday, “We have more than 40 million masks available today. … We’ve contracted now with [manufacturer] 3M to — 35 million more masks per month will be produced, and we’re also going to be working with other manufacturers.”

However, 3M communications manager Jennifer Ehrich said the company couldn’t confirm Pence’s statement, The Star Tribune of Minneapolis reported.

“Just to clarify, we are not yet under contract for the volume mentioned today,” she said. “However, we are preparing to respond to the U.S. administration’s request for a proposal for respirators. 3M continues to maximize production at its manufacturing facilities in the U.S. and around the world for all types of N95 respirators.”

In Italy, which has seen the largest outbreak of the virus in Europe, authorities were investigating reports of price gouging.

“We have decided to open an investigation after media reports of the insane prices fetched up by these products (masks and gels) on online sales websites in the last two days,” Milan deputy chief prosecutor Tiziana Siciliano told Reuters.

Many pharmacies in the country say they have run out of masks and hand sanitizer, leaving consumers with online purchases as their only recourse.

A man in Washington state became the first patient to die of the virus in the U.S. Saturday, as the total number of infected Americans climbed to nearly 70, including four patients who likely contracted it within the community.
