Police officers in Massachusetts took it upon themselves Monday to deliver a stash of Amazon packages found in a cemetery.

The Burlington Police Department tweeted a photo of the undelivered packages, saying a “diligent grounds keeper” at Chestnut Hill Cemetery northwest of Boston came across something “suspicious” in a trash receptacle and alerted authorities.

ALEXA-POWERED EARBUDS ARE AMAZON’S NEXT BIG DEVICE: REPORT

The packages were addressed to Burlington residents, so the officers notified Amazon and began delivering them.

Police did not say how many were found, but WFXT-TV reported officials said there were about 40.

Burlington Police Officer Roberto Reyes told the station the packages were dated Sept. 22, meaning they should have been delivered Sunday.

“The few residents I did speak to today, a lot of people weren’t home today, unfortunately, but the few residents I did speak to today were surprised to see me obviously, but once they were explained the circumstances, they were very gracious,” Reyes said.

Authorities are investigating how the packages ended up in the cemetery. The person responsible could face criminal charges, they said.

Florida police detective resigns after threatening mass shooting if he didn’t get job he wanted

Westlake Legal Group police-lights- Florida police detective resigns after threatening mass shooting if he didn't get job he wanted Nicole Darrah fox-news/us/us-regions/southeast/florida fox-news/us/crime/police-and-law-enforcement fox-news/us/crime/mass-murder fox-news/us/crime fox news fnc/us fnc article 556b3f23-d881-5854-aea7-fe7a09acbe1d

A Florida police detective resigned last week after he said there would be an “active shooter situation” if he didn’t get the job he wanted, officials said.

Steve Bergren submitted his resignation to the Tarpon Springs Police Department, located in Pinellas County, after he made the comment on Aug. 5 to a fellow detective, which Police Maj. Jeffrey Young said made the co-worker’s “hairs on the back of his neck stand up.”

FLORIDA MOM INSISTS HER SON WHO ALLEGEDLY THREATENED MASS SHOOTING IS ‘JUST A LITTLE KID’ MAKING JOKES

Bergren, according to the Tampa Bay Times, wrote the police chief a letter explaining he was joking and that he “failed to appreciate how recent tragic events could lead to a statement referencing an active shooter being misperceived” — but the excuse didn’t fly.

“In his letter, he says it was in jest, but in hindsight it was ill-advised,” Young told the news outlet. “In today’s society, you just can’t say something like that and not be held accountable for it.”

OKLAHOMA WOMAN, 18, THREATENED TO ‘SHOOT 400 PEOPLE FOR FUN’ AT FORMER HIGH SCHOOL, OFFICIALS SAY

The police major said it doesn’t make sense for law enforcement to ask that the public look out for “red flags” – like threatening an “active shooter situation” – while ignoring such comments close by, despite where it comes from.

Bergren, an officer with the force since 2008, apologized.

“I never imagined when the statement was made that it would be perceived … as a potential threat to our shared workplace,” he wrote to the police chief. But the detective who reported the comment told the department “Bergren made this statement in a stoic manner and not giving any indication that this was a joke.”

CALIFORNIA MAN WARNS OF FAKE MASS SHOOTING AT COUNTY FAIR SO HE WOULDN’T HAVE TO GO WITH PARENTS, POLICE SAY

Bergren was placed on leave and an investigation was conducted, uncovering that Bergren had made a similar comment on May 10 — he told co-workers about what might happen if he wasn’t appointed to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office’s drug task force.

Those co-workers thought Bergren was joking. “He is stoic and they thought he just has a dry sense of humor,” Young said.

Per Tarpon Springs city rules, Bergren’s comments would be considered a workplace threat, according to the Times. The department’s investigation will be sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s Standards Commission for further review.

Florida cop accused of uploading child porn to social media app, reports say

A decorated Florida police officer was arrested Thursday on allegations that he uploaded child porn to a social media app, according to reports.

St. Petersburg officer Matthew Enhoffer appeared in court Thursday on a charge of possession and distribution of child pornography, Tampa Bay’s Fox 13 reported, citing court documents.

Officials launched an investigation in July after an individual with the username “thehoff727” uploaded exploited images of children on an unspecified social media app, a complaint said.

After obtaining a search warrant, agents reportedly raided Enhoffer’s home on Sept. 11, seizing a MacBook containing images of child pornography and messages with an unspecified person discussing those images.

“When a police officer takes the oath, he or she takes the oath that they are going to protect the citizens out there,” especially our youth,” St. Petersburg Police Chief Anthony Holloway said during a news conference Thursday afternoon. “Today, Officer Enhoffer tarnished our badge.”

He added, “We’re talking about kids, here, and if this allegation is true, I don’t want him here.”

Enhoffer has been put on paid administrative leave, pending an investigation, Fox 13 reported.

An attorney listed as representing Enhoffer did not immediately return Fox News’ request for comment.

The department had awarded Enhoffer with a Medal of Valor “for his actions in response to an armed suspect” in May 2015, WFTS reported.

The allegation came less than a month after the FBI arrested a police officer in Margate, Fla., on charges of possessing child pornography.

Texas high school student arrested after hitting principal, threatening school shooting

A Texas high school student was arrested on Tuesday after assaulting his principal, a police officer and threatening to use a gun in a school shooting, reports say.

Jaelon Gipson, 17, allegedly threatened to pull a gun from his backpack and start shooting at Terrell High School, the Terrell ISD police chief, Gary Monk, told inForney.com.

Overhearing his threats, students reported his gun comments to the school and police were called to the scene around 12:41 p.m. on Tuesday, according to the outlet.

Florida girl, 6, arrested for battery by school resource officer for temper tantrum: report

A Florida grandmother claims her 6-year-old granddaughter was arrested by a resource officer after throwing a temper tantrum at school — which she says happened because the child suffers from sleep apnea.

Meralyn Kirkland says the child, Kaia Rolle, was acting out at Lucious and Emma Nixon Academy, a charter school in Orlando, as a result of lack of sleep. The 6-year-old was then brought to the principal’s office.

CALIFORNIA WOMAN CAUGHT PUSHING $6,000 WORTH OF STOLEN QUARTERS IN BABY STROLLER, POLICE SAY

Kirkland told WKMG-TV that while there, a school staff employee grabbed Kaia’s wrists, sparking her to lash out and kick her legs. The school resource officer — Officer Dennis Turner, of the Orlando Police Department — handcuffed Kaia and transported her to the Juvenile Assessment Center in Orlando on a battery charge.

Her grandmother said the child was fingerprinted and had her mugshot taken.

The department didn’t immediately return Fox News’ request for comment. Sgt. David Baker told the news outlet that for arrests of people under the age of 12, officers are required to get permission from their watch commander — which he said Turner did not do.

TEXAS MAN WANTED FOR DIVORCING HIS WIFE WITHOUT HER KNOWLEDGE

Kirkland claims that when she told Turner the 6-year-old has sleep apnea, which the family is “working on getting resolved,” the officer didn’t understand why that would be an excuse for the child.

“He says, ‘Well, I have sleep apnea, and I don’t behave like that,'” Kirkland claimed the officer told her.

Kirkland questioned how a child could be arrested for kicking somebody.

“How do you do that to a 6-year-old child and because she kicked somebody? … A literal mug shot of a 6-year-old girl,” she said. “No 6-year-old child should be able to tell somebody that they had handcuffs on them and they were riding in the back of a police car and taken to a juvenile center to be fingerprinted, mug shot.”

Turner also reportedly arrested an 8-year-old that day in a separate incident on Thursday, according to WKMG. Baker told the news outlet Turner did not request permission for that child’s arrest, either. Authorities said an internal investigation is ongoing.

Kirkland says Kaia is supposed to report to court Oct. 16 and if she doesn’t a warrant will be issued for her arrest.

Chicago police are searching for a man suspected of shooting and injuring a police officer on Saturday, as well as shooting a woman in the back in broad daylight on Wednesday, officials said.

The suspect, 45-year-old Michael Blackman, managed to flee the scenes of both shootings and should be considered “armed and dangerous,” Chicago Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said.

The injured officer, who has not been identified, was shot and wounded at around 8:40 a.m. while serving a warrant on the city’s South Side. He is 40 years old and a 16-year veteran of the Chicago police force in the fugitive apprehension team, Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said during a news conference at Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

Doctors said the officer was shot once in the groin and twice in his lower left leg. According to Guglielmi, the officer lost nearly a third of his blood despite applying a tourniquet on himself. The officer underwent surgery and was listed in stable condition.

“He came basically bleeding to death,” said Jane Kayle Lee, the trauma surgeon who operated on the officer for about 2 hours. “He had already lost a significant amount of blood.”

Blackman is accused of shooting a 29-year-old woman while he was riding a bicycle in the Fulton River District on Wednesday, police Superintendent Eddie Johnson told Fox 32 Chicago. The woman was shot in the back but is expected to survive, he said.

On Friday, police released surveillance video from a bicycle shop showing Blackman at the counter getting a flat tire fixed just minutes before Wednesday’s shooting.

Fox 32 Chicago reported that the fugitive apprehension team was trying to arrest Blackman when the shooting took place at around 8:40 a.m. After officers knocked on the door, Blackman ran out the back of the home and shot the officer

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot asked Chicagoans to pray for the officer and his family, as well as all first responders and law enforcement officials “who work day and night to protect our residents.”

“We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates,” she said.

In a separate incident, two other officers were injured after responding to a call about a man with a gun inside of a South Side restaurant shortly after 4 a.m. Saturday. After the officers patted down the man and found his gun, he pushed past them, ran outside, got into a vehicle and drove off, dragging both officers before getting away.

The two officers were hospitalized with abrasions, contusions, internal injuries and possible bone fractures. Their names and the name of the driver, if police know it, haven’t been released.

A Louisiana police officer was killed Friday and another was wounded following a vehicle chase in a New Orleans-area suburb, authorities said.

Witnesses said the chase began after a traffic stop near State Routes 22 and 190 near Mandeville.

A suspect got out of the vehicle and allegedly shot at a Mandeville police officer, who died. Another officer arrived and was shot as well, WVUE-TV reported.

“We have a wife that is grieving. We have children that are grieving,” Mandeville Police Chief Gerald Sticker told reporters at a news conference.

St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Randy Smith said the injured officer was grazed. It was unclear whether the officers returned fire. The identities of the officers were not released.

Two suspects were taken into custody, Smith’s office said.

Gov. John Bol Edwards tweeted about the deadly attack.

“Our hearts go out to the officer’s family and friends, the people of Mandeville and the entire law enforcement community. Please join @FirstLadyOfLA and me in praying for our state today. #lagov #lalege,” he posted.

Missy Noel, who was at a golf tournament nearby, told NOLA.com that golfers were ordered off the course and told to shelter inside.

Milwaukee Police Officer Matthew Rittner was former Marine who served courageously in Iraq

Lt. Kristin Felsman remembers pulling back into the station on the day Milwaukee Police Officer Matthew Rittner died and seeing two young girls with stuffed animals tucked underneath their arms running toward her from across the street.

Just hours earlier, Rittner, a 35-year-old former Marine and a member of the department’s Tactical Enforcement Unit, was gunned down while serving a search warrant at a home where illegal firearms sales were believed to be occurring.

“Before a lot has even been said, two girls came over to comfort us with teddy bears that were theirs,” Felsman, Rittner’s commander, told Fox News. “The outpouring of support – it really makes you realize you do touch people without even knowing you are doing it.”

OFFICERS KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY IN 2019

Felsman said Feb. 6 was “very difficult” for everyone at the Milwaukee Police Department. But in the days, weeks and months since, the community rallied to honor and spread the legacy of a decorated officer known for putting smiles on people’s faces and risking his life to save others.

“He really cared about everything he did,” Felsman said. “He was just an amazing officer, his attitude was so good and he never had a bad word for anybody.”

Rittner was recognized numerous times during his 17-year career with the Milwaukee Police Department. In May, Rittner posthumously was given Medal of Honor and Purple Valor awards, in recognition that on the day of his death, he “exhibited exceptional courage and bravery to accept the sole responsibility to breach the door in order to apprehend a violent criminal and protect Milwaukee and its residents,” the department said.

Four years prior to that, Rittner was awarded the department’s Medal of Valor after helping rescue two people taken hostage during a home invasion robbery, Felsman said. When negotiations went south, Rittner and other officers grabbed a shield and confronted the hostage-taker, who ended up shooting himself.

“We call it a ‘fatal funnel,’” Felsman said. “Running down a stairwell to shots of gunfire coming at you. It’s pretty unnerving.”

Rittner, however, was used to being shot at.

Before he was a police officer, Rittner was a sergeant in the Marines, completing two tours of duty in Iraq. During one of them, his unit was involved in a four-hour firefight. Rittner also rode in vehicles that were struck by improvised explosive devices, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs said.

When he wasn’t risking his life, Rittner was an avid Milwaukee Brewers fan and season ticket holder – and even married his wife, Caroline, at Miller Park in 2017, throwing out a ceremonial first pitch in front of thousands of fans ahead of a game against the Miami Marlins.

The baseball team this season set up a locker at their spring training facility in memory of Rittner. Inside, they placed a jersey with his name and the number 10 on it, denoting him as the Brewers’ ceremonial “10th man.”

“I want players to ask, ‘Who’s this?’ Then they get the answer that this man died protecting the City of Milwaukee,” Dan Larrea, director of team travel, told MLB.com. “I want it to be something for players and staff to talk about so they know what the City of Milwaukee is all about.”

Rittner is survived by his wife and their young son. Three days after his funeral, Caroline Rittner announced she is expecting another child – a girl.

Caroline Rittner held a gender reveal party with her husband’s unit at the Milwaukee Police Department after finding out that she was pregnant.

A GoFundMe page set up for the family has raised nearly $100,000 and Felsman says a police union SUV had to make four or five trips to Rittner’s home to deliver all the gifts the public has donated to Caroline, her son and growing daughter.

“It’s extremely joyful because clearly, Matt’s legacy will live on,” Felsman said. “It’s also very sad because Matt won’t be here to see his daughter.”
